Ah yes, another sunny day in Brishhal. Brutus found himself logging in at the same place he'd always woke up when he could. A large, beat up straw stuffed bed that he and Corsair had managed to drag all the way out here for him to sleep. He rolled out of bed with a thump, rising from the floor with a grunt. Adjusting to being a giant again was always a bit of a shock on first log in. He was literally a foot taller and almost two hundred pounds heavier. He silently cursed his own small stature, but recently he'd been making an effort to bulk up IRL. He was making some ground, even catching some of the guys in the troop miring his gains, but that was neither here nor there.

The Affairs of Olivier meant nothing here.

Here he was Brutus Dahlgren, Hero of the People and larger than life. He was confident, cool, charismatic, and collected. He didn't do shit like accidentally say "You too" when the waitress told him to enjoy his meal. Here he'd wink at her and cause her to swoon.

You know, chad shit.

He had to hurry through his morning routine however, because today was special. Today he was having a guest over, and he needed to prerpare. He would triple check his beard in the mirror, take a quick little bath out in the creak near his shack, and then get about preparing the outskirts of Fort Gundame for their training. Errant sticks and twigs and rocks were swept away to clear a fighting arena. Finally, he would open his UI and send a message to Toko.

"Ah, shimatta, I almost forgot...!"

Nao had become engrossed preparing the most recent orders of her online shop to ship, they had piled up considerably ever since she had begun spending more and more time within TerraSphere, and just as she finished tapping the last one an alarm on her phone reminded the Japanese woman of a scheduled appointment she had with one of her VRMMORPG friends.

The alarm was quickly shut off before Nao decided a quick shower was in order, and before long the girl was getting comfy in her bed as the VR headset was slipped on.

* * * * *

Toko had logged into her usual room in the Cozy Nook, the Lepus rising from her bed and stretching out her limbs. She quickly checked that everything was in order before bounding down the stairs to at a time, shouting a quick "Ohayoo Mabelle-obasan!" in the proprietor's direction while snatching one of the fresh bun's on her desk before quickly bounding out the front door.

"Okureru okureru...!!!"

She could see the flashing symbol in her UI of a message, her hands quickly clicking at the air as the rabbitfolk quickly made her way towards the meeting spot.

To: @Brutus Dahlgren
From: Toko

Haaai! On my way rn!!!

"Ottotto...!"

She stumbled, barely catching her balance again to avoid meeting the ground, just as she message was sent—the last bite of her bread bun shoved into her mouth before the Lepus licked her fingers clean just as the structure of Fort Gundame came to view. It was the first time she visited the place, although Toko had to admit it looked really nice, before her attention was grabbed by a familiar giant not too far out.

"Oooiiiiii! Brutus-nii!!!" She called out as Toko got closer, waving a hand in the air before she slowed her pace to a walk as the Lepus worked on regulating her breath after the warm up sprint to this place. "Gomen! I was finishing some orders at home, hopefully I didn't make you wait long...?"

"Ohaiyo, Toko Chan~" Brutus crooned in a semi teasing manner, patting the Lepus on the head as she approached. His signature canon was leaning against a stump, towering over the clearing like some sort of metal watch tower. An Orange Tabby Kitten, Tiger, was big chilling wrapped up in Brutus' red jacket which was pooled up in a pile of cloth on a small rocking chair just outside the front door of the shed. He was joined by Crow, a black kitten that was sunning himself on the edge of the chair, nary a care in the world. The Giant himself had been busy stretching, wearing a simple white linen shirt, though half of it was unbuttoned to accommodate his large chest.

"I wasn't so much as waiting as preparing for your visit. I'm pretty bad at procrastinating, so I hadn't cleaned up the clearing in a while." He would motion to a small pile of sticks and stones leaned against the shack. "On the bright side, if you're still hanging out when it gets dark we can have a little bonfire and roast some hotdogs or something." He would chuckle, dipping down low to stretch out his legs.

"So here's the long and short, you remember how when we fought those goblins in Old Man Liams House I had to smack em around with a plank because my canon was too big?" He asked, calling back to the first time he'd met her. "Well that shit keeps happening, and I need to learn how to fight up close and personal in tight spaces sooooo..." He reached into his pockets and pulled his hands out, brandishing a pair of knuckle dusters.

"I figured I'd take a page out of your book and start using my fists!" He would put them back in his pocket and shoot her a grin. "So, you down for a day of kicking the snot out of each other for the sake of getting stronger?"

"It's o-ha-yoo, not ohaiyo, don't use the state's pronunciation Brutus-nii."

There was a teasing smirk as the Lepus corrected her friends pronunciation, playfully sticking her tongue out before a large hand fell to pat Toko atop her head. Her eyes looked around the clearing as Brutus explained the cleaning he'd been doing, before she spotted the two kittens bundled up nearby in a rocking chair with Brutus' jacket.

"Aaah, kawaii!!!" She quickly walked over, slowing her steps as she got closer before peering at Tiger and Crow. "Are these the kittens Lucy and you helped? They're so adorable~"

She wanted to pick them up very much, but considering how comfortable the siblings looked Toko finally decided to let them continue napping with a defeated sigh... maybe later during the day she'd be able to play with the two brothers.

"Mmm? Ah, hai, I remember that fight." She listened as Brutus continued with his explanation, before gasping as the man pulled out a pair of knuckle dusters. "Uwaaah... those look like they could really pack a good punch, yeah."

Probably crush a few things, like skulls, too... but now the Lepus understood why Brutus had been so eager to have a training lesson with herself.

"Alright, I see. I can try and show you how I do things, but I've never trained someone before so you'll have to bear with me..." She pondered the matter for a moment, before a devilish grin stretched on her lips. "Guess that would officially make you my cute little gakseeh, mmm...?"

"Indeed! Those are Tiger and Crow. Lucy ended up leaving Crow here with his brother so they would have a buddy to play with when Corsair and I are away on adventures. I have Stankins come by and make sure they're fed when I know we're going to be gone for a long period of time." The giant would walk behind her and lean down, scritching the ears of each kitten before guiding her over to the clearing again.

After listening to her teasing, the giant would rub his chin for a moment, leaning down to get eye level with the rabbit for a moment, a devilish grin. "I'm not quite sure what that word is, my Duo Lingo hasn't gotten me that far juuuust yet." He would correct his height and yawn slightly, covering his mouth as he did so. "But if you want me to call you Sensei, I suppose I could arrange that." He shrugged. "Though if I manage to take some wins off my sensei today, that would be preeeetty embarrassing for you huh?"

He would give her a sly wink and gently slugged her on the shoulder. "So, you ready to get training? Senseeei~" He would drawl, a smirk on his lips. "Or do you need me to bow for you first?"

Badump...

He was suddenly close, Brutus' face at eye level with her own, and it caused the rabbit to startled ever so slightly before she managed to keep her composure. Ochitske, Toko! Honestly the combination of his cat eyes and that devilish grin were downright fucking criminal.

”It's the word for student, also I'm pretty sure that is touched upon very early in Duolingo... have you really been studying at all, Brutus-nii?”

There was a mocking roll of her eyes at his teasing, the Lepus tapping the Felis' arm with her first lightly. ”Sure, start boasting before you've even thrown a punch... can't wait for you to eat those words back up.” A chuckle escaped from her as Brutus mentioned if he should bow, Toko shaking her head as she moved to one side of the now unobstructed clearing.

Toko spent the next few moments explaining the rules of engagement to Brutus, ensuring that they were both on the same page as to how these sparring sessions would go. Once they were in agreement the fighter took her side of the clearing, finishing her stretches to warm up the muscles before nodding at Brutus.

"Junbi shimashyo!"

With that Toko took a defensive stance, readying herself for whatever Brutus decided to throw her way.

Combat Guidelines

  • Both combatants will have 3 Life Points (LP) available per round.
  • The only action allowed is Normal Attack, but passives can be enabled on the character sheet.
  • Everyone has 3 Life Points (LP) for the sake of combat.
  • All rolls must be made in the #rolls channel.
  • To deplete your opponent's Life Points you would roll a Normal Attack.
  • The person being attacked can parry by rolling a Normal Attack. The DC equals the attacker's final amount
  • On a successful attack, deduct 1 LP.
  • On a critical success attack, or a critical fail parry, deduct 2 LP.
  • On a critical failure attack the opponent will not have to roll a parry, the attack will automatically fail.
  • On a critical success parry the attacker automatically deducts 1 LP. It is assumed your opponent read your move well enough to capitalize on the situation.
  • The first person to reduce their opponent to 0 LP is the winner of the match.

Ah there it was, the telltale heartbeat. He would clap his hands together and give her a rather respectful bow before dropping into a stance. He'd seen a little bit of how Toko had carried herself in the past, and did his best to mimic it, thrown slightly off by the lack of his canon in his arms. He was used to being held down by the massive pillar of Iron. Unobstructed, he dashed forward bringing his fists forward with an absurd amount of force. The Lepus' eyes widened and raised her arms to block the attack.

WHAM.

His fist collided into her crossed arms, and the bunny would slide back as his momentum sunk into her form. The Giant clicked his tongue, he wasn't sure what he was expecting, but he'd thrown a rather large amount of his force into that one. To watch her simply take it with a block was shocking, but not out of the question. He would crack his neck and shoot her a predatorial grin.

"Good shit Sen~sei! Bring it on, show me what you've got!"

She had prepared well, even ground her feet firmly onto the soil below for extra grip, as Toko had watched Brutus perform his attempt at a respectful bow... Toko was entirely sure that the giant would come out of the gate swinging, because that's exactly what she would've done in his shoes.

Birds of a feather and all that jazz.

However what she hadn't full been prepared for was the insane force his punch would carry, and even after the punch had landed she could still feel the sting on her skin. "Itai!" However Toko wasn't about to let that distract her, the Lepus quickly using one arm to guide Brutus' own out of the way before she had attempted an uppercut to the chin...

"... shimatta!"

It would've been a super cool and sweet move, that much Toko was sure of, had it actually managed to hit as the Lepus planned it. Instead she found the bigger hand of Brutus grabbing her own, before bracing as Toko attempted to figure out what was the best course of action to get out of her current predicament.

Brutus grinned as he caught her fist. She was fast, but he could see her moves coming as she threw them. This wasn't like fighting a goblin, she was a fairly even match for him. He would bring his other hand down like a hammer, ready to smash into her. Normally he would feel bad going all out like this, but Corsair had left Samsung out and he was loaded up with some healing magics. Then his hand sailed past her and he realized his mistake.

"Shimatta!" he grunted.

The Rabbit twirled like a dancer, using his grip to balance herself and WHAM. Her foot sailed through the air and into his jaw, sending him staggering back a bit. He would break away from her, creating some distance. The natural cadence of the battle would put him on the defensive here, and he wasn't about to let her land another hit so easily. "That was on me for being cocky."

She'd seen the cocky look on his face as he'd caught hold of her fist, the Felis no doubt feeling like he would be coming out on top in this match. What he hadn't known though was that the Lepus movements had been deliberately slower than usual, Toko slowly baiting the giant's attention so he'd feel like he could read her every move.

"Gotcha~"

The mischievous grin that spread through her lips was almost palpable, a wink given in Brutus' direction before the Lepus had suddenly dipped and pivoted in her spot. Not only did she remove herself out of the incoming fist, but his grip actually gave Toko additional purchase as a side kick soon connected with Brutus' jaw—the impact strong enough for the Felis to let go of the rabbit he had caught.

"I did warn you... being cocky never pays off in close combat."

Not wanting to let the momentum go Toko quickly dashed towards Brutus once more, feinting a straight attack before the rabbit dove in between the giant's leg—coming out the other side to deliver a kick onto Brutus back .

The rabbit dove between his legs and planted a kick into the small of his back, sending the giant tumbling forward off balance. He grit his teeth, taking a few steps. He'd managed to go the whole fight without landing a single hit. He would take a deep breath, and hone in his senses. He could feel her coming, the soft badump badump of her heart as it coursed blood through her body. The rhythmic inhalation and exhaling breath on her lips. The crunch of the grass beneath her feet. She swung again, and the giant pivoted, watching her fist fly by his face harmlessly.

"Thanks for the advice, Sensei!"

He would slam his palm into her stomach, sending her backwards and disengaging the two again.

Ah, perhaps she'd gotten a bit too cocky as well...

"Hnnng...!"

As Brutus had taken a few steps forwards, her kick having unbalanced his form, Toko had wasted no time as she'd gotten in close for what she had hoped would be the final hit. Her heart was racing, adrenaline and dopamine quickly pumping into her veins, and in her excitement she'd failed to sense the small shift around Brutus as something seemed to click in place.

"You hit like a truck even without those dusters... geesh!"

A part of her was thankful that distance had been formed between them for a moment, allowing the Lepus a few seconds to somewhat regain her breath, before her feet gripped the soil beneath in preparation. Again she went straight for the Felis, trying another feint, but this time Brutus didn't fell for Toko's bait.

"Kuso!"

Brutus managed to block her next attack, spotting her feint as she went for the actual attack. His heart was thumping, she had him on his toes, that was for sure.

But that was what he liked about Toko.

Very few people could keep up with him like this, so when he began a series of rapid fire punches, palms, and jabs that all failed to land due to her ducks, dives, dips, and dodging he found himself grinning. "Well, I am used to swinging a canon around that weighs more than you and I combined." He would plant a foot, feint a jab, then come with an uppercut that narrowly missed the Lepus.

"But you're fast as fuck, you know that?"

"Yeah no, I'll never understand how you don't get tired of carrying that huge things around."

He tried his best to overwhelm her with powerful and consecutive attacks, the Lepus constantly in the move as she played with ehr balance while ducking and turning. A few of the punches had gotten close, but not enough for an actual hit, and a short chuckle left Toko when Brutus talked about her speed.

"Not all of us have a huge cannon to solve our problems, ne~?"

At one point the Lepus spotted an opening, pivoting on her heel just as she ducked from a high swing Brutus had made, before she attempted to land a jab on his side... only to see Brutus shift his weight to his shoulder as he checked her in place.

The movement was enough to halt her assault before Toko broke away from the Felis, panting slightly from the exertion... though that wide and excited grin remained on her lips.

"I've been working with it for almost a month now, it's gotten to the point where I barely feel it."

Brutus would let out a throaty chuckle as they continued their bout. She's tried to dip to the side for a jab, and thinking quickly he managed to plant and charge shoulder first, slamming into her and sending her back. He could feel his heart beating, he could smell both her sweat and his beginning to build up.

"No, we don't all have huge canons, but that doesn't keep you from carrying those guns on you." He would grin and go for a kick, misjudging the distance and being nowhere even close to her. "Eh, sorry bout that, had like a leg cramp."

There was no denying the happiness she was currently feeling, the Lepus glad that Brutus had thought of her when looking for a sparring partner. While the Lepus didn't felt she was the hottest thing out there Toko was still aware that she had good mobility, and at times finding a sparring partner in the Guild that could match her energy and enthusiasm could be a challenge. It caused her to hold back in response, and the only other option was practicing with stationary dummies and punching bags... neither of which offered the level of satisfaction and rush Toko felt when fighting someone else.

She didn't have to worry about any of that when sparring with Brutus though.

The Felis was a mountain of muscle, more than capable to withstand any hit that Toko could land on his physique, but what the Lepus liked the most was that he didn't look down on her for being a girl. A short chuckle slipped from her lips at his complement, before Toko tensed in preparation to dodge whatever new move Brutus planned to throw her way... only to suddenly see him misjudge the distance of a kick before he fell down to one of his knees.

"Eh, sorry bout that, had like a leg cramp."
"Did you not warm up properly?"

She was concerned for a moment as Toko called out to Brutus, but a match was a match and the Lepus soon shortened the distance between them once more. It looked like she was about to sock him, but at the last minute she danced around to his side before jumping to give the lion a light tap atop his crown—signalling the end of their bout—her words almost purred out in delight when she spoke.

"I believe the first match goes to me~"

"I must be low on Sodium or something." Brutus lied, rolling his eyes. Fight one had been a wash, which honestly was to be expected, but his own Pride was at a hurt. He would turn and shoot her a grin, his heart racing as he could tell hers was as well. She was strong enough to push him forward, and he was strong enough to give her a challenge.

Iron sharpening Iron.

He would give her a low bow, sighing slightly. "I do believe that is match one of many going to you indeed." He would right himself, towering over her. "You thirsty? I'll go grab some water. We should probably get some stretches in and take a moment before we go into round two eh?" He would lumber over to the shack and retrieve some waterskins. Tiger would stretch, abandoning his cloth nest with his brother and strutting over to the giants boots and meowing lightly.

The call for uppies were recognized, and Brutus raised the kitten up onto his shoulder before returning to the Lepus. On his other shoulder was a mechanical frog, staring blankly at the energizer bunny whilst humming. When Brutus came within a certain distance of Toko, she would realize she was beginning to feel her pain wash away. He would toss her a waterskin and pop a squat on one of two rocks set near a firepit.

"This is Sam." He would motion to the Frog. "Corsair uses him to dispense healing magic. He's going to be our doctor today." Tiger would eye the Lepus for a moment, nuzzling into the giant Felis' beard and nibbling on his ear.

"So then, you had a taste of round one, what did you think. How was my fighting?"

"Mhmm..."

A part of her wasn't fully sure she believed the cramping excuse, after all no one recovered from a leg cramp in such lightning fast speed... Toko knew that from personal experience. Still she chose to say nothing about it, enjoying the moment as it was for the time being. No need to fuck it up when they were having a good time.

"First to three~?"

A playful wink was given before she nodded at the offer of water, watching the giant lumber away to a nearby shack and fetch two waterskins before making a mandatory pitstop. Tiger, the ginger kitten, seemed awake now—and clearly wanted the coddles the kitten knew he deserved.

"Aaawwwwww... kawaii~" It was then Toko noticed the magitech frog on Brutus' shoulder, her eyes lighting up in recognition. "Oh hey, it's Sam!"

The waterskin was caught and the top popped opened before the Lepus took a few long and greedy gulps, exhaling in delight after hydrating before blinking as Toko realized she felt a lot more refreshed than the water should be able to accomplish.

"Ah, I see... I met him a while back while we were checking out the stars, he had a cute alarm but I didn't know he could heal too."

Her eyes watched the ginger kitten as it seemed to study Toko for a moment, waving softly at Tiger, before she looked to Brutus as he asked for feedback.

"Well you have the power... but you're too blunt when moving, it makes it easier for me to guess what you might be about to do." She followed the Felis to the campfire, sitting on the other stone as she thought further. "That said I'm surprised you don't try to grab or hinder my movements more often... if I wasn't able to move around it'd be very hard for me to counter your attacks."

Brutus raised an eyebrow at the women, cocking his head to the side. "Best of three? So I'm hearing you've only got five fights in you~?" He would chuckle, the kitten still nibbling on his ear. He would reach up and scoop the kitten off his shoulder, taking a sip with one hand and stroking the cat with another. He would listen to her explain how she knew Sam, and her comments on the kitten. He would hold Tiger up for her to take and pet, the cat eyeing her curiously.

"I didn't know you'd met Corsair before honestly." He was surprised, but then remembering his first encounter with the Dame reminded him of why her and Toko got along. "Checking out stars?" He would cock his head to the star. "I don't think I've heard this story."

As the woman explained his fighting style back to him, he furrowed his brow. "So I need to try and juke you out more. Be a little more subtle and try to keep from projecting my moves?" He would rub his chin and take another swig of water. "So like, I need to try to trip you more often? Or like...grapple?" He thought about how that would work, sweeping movements and grabbing at her. The idea of pinning her to the dirt sent a litany of mixed signals across his mind, and he could only imagine her heart would go aflutter with the mere notion as well. "That sound about right?"

With the way Toko’s eyes suddenly lit up as Brutus handed Tiger over to the Lepus one would believe the Felis had given her a million dollars, an excited squeak escaping Toko as she carefully scooped the kitten up to her chest.

"Kamisama… you’re so soft, and tiny, and just sooo kawaii!!!"

One would think Brutus previous commentary had gone unhear or unnoticed, and that was almost the case… but thankfully Toko did have pretty good hearing. "Figured I shouldn’t kick your ass too much today since you’re low on sodium and cramping up like an ojiisan~" She looked at Brutus just long enough to stick her tongue out playfully at the Felis, before returning to continue crooning over the amazing cuteness of Tiger the kitten.

"Yeah, Old Man Stankins had approached me about some odd rumors spreading among the Landers, something about changing constellations and missing stars in the sky? She had her magitech constructs with her, and I even got to carry Sam around for a while~"

The way Toko spoke about it clearly showed the Lepus had enjoyed her time with the Magia and her creatures, and if the rabbit was honest a part of her was a bit sad that Corsair was not online today.

"Mmm… hai, that seems like a good summary. Bear in mind though that, for the most part, close combat opponents are aware of their weaknesses… they won’t allow themselves to be caught or grappled as easily as you make it sound."

Interestingly enough Toko’s heartbeat remained normal and steady as they talked.
