At least Lily didn't have to feel insane for thinking that what sounded like futuristic machinery wasn't exactly in the line with everything else this world was presenting. Vina clearly did not mind in the end, but it was still strange. Though... the girl did remember how some games would often create a certain sense of duality, a fantastical setting where the protagonist would discover ancient ruins of a civilisation far more advanced. Perhaps it was that sort of thing that they were going on? Well, she had a different question after hearing about all of this.

So if they weren't around when you started, does that mean that there really is some sort of hidden team of developers who are still patching the game and adding new stuff to it?

It was frankly hard to imagine. She had always figured that someone simply made the game, and it remained in a 'stasis' after it became outlawed in most of the world. But that was clearly not the case if things were the way Vina described them to be.

Also, if you say that the wilderness is super dangerous, are people really jumping into random portals to discover where they lead..?

Vina looked up at the skies as Lily asked her question, whether the arrival of the magia meant that this game hadn't yet been abandoned by its creators. It was certainly a valid interpretation of the situation, although the druidess wasn't so certain.

That's the question, isn't it~? (She drew a circle in the air.) With most games the answer would be a clear yes, but Terrasphere is so real that things seem to just happen naturally. It could be that the developers added them afterwards, or maybe they already existed and just decided to come here~ (She laughed softly.) It's strange to think that life could go on inside a game even without developers adding new content, isn't it?

There were, of course, people who insisted that Terrasphere was still a game in the end, and thus was bound by the same limitations as all other games. Vina wasn't entirely sure what to think, but she did always keep in mind that Terrasphere's appeal was that it ventured where other developers wouldn't dare tread, in part because it had been declared literally illegal to make a world as immersive as Arcia.

Could Terrasphere's developers have made Arcia so realistic that things like magia could come into existence without outside interference?

She laughed again as Lily pointed out that jumping through portals wasn't exactly the smartest idea if the wilderness was filled with dangers.

You're not wrong Lily~ But that's what adventurers do, you know? Leaping into the unknown while carrying the explorer's glow~ And above all there are the Whistles, who've made it their life's quest to explore the world beyond. For them a mysterious portal is an invitation, not a threat~

The Whistles were certainly some of the greatest daredevils, even more so than most Starcalled. The playful vixen shook her head.

That said, if somebody built a portal it would make sense to lead somewhere where people can survive, so it's not like they're suicidal.

It wasn't like these portals were traps in a dungeon, meant to eliminate anybody foolish enough to let their curiosity get the best of them.

So far it seemed that a whole lot of people insisted on a whole lot of things with no real proof for anything being present. Well, Lily was sort of prepared for things kind of thing. After all, there was a good reason why the game was banned. Then again, she was fully aware that her physical body was back at her own home, laying on the bed with a headset allowing her to be here. This, naturally, led her to be pretty certain that all of this was just a game at the end of the day. Then again, if it was sufficiently advanced at simulating reality, then was there even a point in truly differentiating the two?

< . . . . . . >

But with even all of that, the girl wasn't exactly impressed with the explanation that adventurers were simply too bold to be constrained. Right, she shook her head and patted her forehead a few times with the palm of her head after the moment of stunned silence, perhaps even conveying the idea she wanted to- that some people were just stupid. Or perhaps naive if the dangers of this world were as severe as she was told before.

She certainly had no interest in exploring the idea of dying and getting stuck here while her physical body out there would die in the place of her digital self. And the logic just didn't really make much sense to her.

If this really is a game, what is stopping developers from setting portals to hostile places? And if there are truly intelligent 'NPCs' then what about those making portal networks that, once discovered, could lead people to a death trap?
