@Magnolia
Nobody found herself suddenly tugged out of the pyre by a soft hand, which proceeded give her a freshening up that left her speechless. It wasn’t the most random thing Nobody had seen in the world, but it sure made the Top 5 list.

"Uhm… th-thanks…" she said, not know what else to say. The fact that the healing salve just absorbed into her body was a bit disturbing, but it felt too relieving to complain.

@Lune
The same could also be said for the strange, blood-red energy that the creepy one shot into her. Felt nice; looked like it shouldn’t. "Y-you too…" Nobody added.

She had no idea what it was that was making her so agreeable. She was just kinda happy all of a sudden. It was hard to describe. Maybe the healing magic had just felt that good? Plus, the cultists were retreating, so that was encouraging.

Turning to the maid, who looked a tad bit disheveled herself, Nobody bent down to pick up one of her slimes and proceeded to shove it on wound after wound, producing a nice cooling sensation on each. The slime didn’t seem to appreciate this, wiggling around in protest each time.

Finishing up, she nodded and set the—now red-tinted—slime on the ground. "I’ll just be leaving now… pretend I wasn’t here."

While you were able to immobilize the priest and knock down a cultist, you clearly did not have enough time to take them all down, so 3 of them ended up escaping.

In theory, it should be possible to pursue them. There is no way they were able to make a long-range teleportation spell to get out of here in such a short time. Surely they are nearby.

However, there was a more pressing issue ahead of you, "Pray to your gods now, heathens! For your end is nigh! You will not be able to withstand the might of our reinforcements-!" The priest's words were cut off by a big hole being blown right in the middle of the ceiling. The earth shook for a second, and rubble quickly started falling from the skies and onto your location.

"T-the sacred pyre! H-how could you be so careless-!?" The priest exclaimed as the pyre was quickly buried by rubble, only for him to go silent right after, as a piece of rock hit him on the face and knocked him unconscious.

As the rubble hit the pyre, you could see a few things.

Like, some charred pieces of flesh flying out of it. While most of it was unrecognizable, some parts were clearly humanoid. Things like a few skulls were easy to discern even amidst the chaos.

But much more importantly than that, you saw... What even is that? A doll? With a clown monster coming out of its mouth? How was one even supposed to describe this thing?

"H̵̡̑e̶̢̔ỳ̶̦,̸̡̑ ̶̢́ç̵͗ȯ̵̬m̴̕͜e̶̙͆ ̷͈͠ő̵̭n̴͖̑!̶͔̀ ̸̻͛Y̴̺͠ó̸̹ũ̶̥ ̶̫̏c̴͓͑á̴̠n̶̲̊'̷̝͊t̸̛̖ ̵̎ͅṯ̷̓ḁ̴͆k̸̩̚e̴̥̓ ̸͍̉m̵̹̾ȇ̶̙ ̸̟͒o̷̤̓u̸̗͋t̸̛̗ ̸̼̎ǒ̶͍f̶̏͜ ̷̹̍t̴̘̋h̶͓́ȅ̸̜ ̷̙̋f̵͉͑u̴̺̽n̶͜͠ ̸͕͐l̷̮̽i̴͝ͅk̸̙͌e̸̛̳ ̸͙̔ț̵́h̵̜̾a̵͉̎t̴͕̍!̴̤̀"

You hear a distorted voice in your minds.

"S̶͕̾ị̸́n̵̘̉c̶̖̿ě̸̗ ̶̹̍y̷̫̅o̶̝͠ụ̶̌ ̷̼̇ẁ̵̻ȇ̶̱ṟ̸͊e̴͕̅ ̴̖͆ş̴̀o̷̘̓,̵̧͝ ̶̧͊s̸̺̕ǫ̴͐ỏ̸ͅo̴͉̅o̵̭̊ ̸̘̐e̷͎̓v̵̥̈́i̴͖̓l̶̠͌ ̸̖͑i̸̢͠n̵̗͝ ̵̧͆p̷̙̎ǘ̴͇s̵̼̀h̵̢̑ḯ̸̼n̸̼̍ǧ̸͉ ̷̺͐m̴͎̍e̷͚͋ ̷̠͋ą̷̈́w̵̩͝à̶̼ẏ̸̟.̷̯̾.̵̈́͜.̶͇̕ ̴̖̈Y̷̰̍ö̸̠u̸͎̍'̵̲̽r̸̜͑e̶͖͘ ̶̩̾g̵̎ͅo̵̪͂n̶̫͊n̸͈̒ȁ̷̭ ̶̣̋h̸̰̀á̵̻v̸̥͗e̸̲̽ ̶͔̎t̶̩̒o̷̻͂ ̵͈̃p̵̭̀l̶̩͝ǎ̸̲ÿ̸̬́ ̵͎̚w̷̰͝ḭ̸̀t̴̬̑h̶͔̉ ̶̞̇C̷͕̽h̴̙̕ä̶̯́r̵̙͘l̶̦̑o̴͕͆t̶̤́t̵̪̍ḙ̶͒ ̸͕͌f̴̲̈́ó̶͙r̸̞̿ ̶̮̓ă̸̺ ̷̤̽ḃ̷̪i̴͛ͅt̶͓͘ ̷̥͆t̶̰͝o̶̫͒ ̷̬̈́c̴̝̃ő̵͕m̶̖͑p̶̜̅e̵̝̕n̵͉͘s̵̜͑a̷̢͛t̴̮̓e̷̘̒,̶̈́͜ ̵̣͑ą̴̾l̶̤͊r̶̼͝i̴̭͆g̵̪̕h̷̡̒ẗ̴̡́y̷̜͘?̷̰̇"

The distorted voice didn't seem to be particularly hostile... In fact, it seems to be quite happy, right now.

❰ 1500 / 1500 ❱

  • Movement: 0
  • Range: 4 (counts from E5)
  • Break: All
    • Break Effect: Something nice (?) might happen in Phase 2.
  • Passive: Enters Phase 2 after losing 750 HP.
  • Glandark's Mental Attack: Charlotte deals -32 damage per attack until the Clairvoyance user passes on a Will Check (rolled with Advantage) with DC 105.
  • Attack: Playtime - Deals 10d20 damage to 1 enemy (Cannot be Taunted)
    • AI Priorities: Protected > Normal > Vulnerable > Super Vulnerable
    • AI Tiebreaker: Higher HP > Lower HP
  • Phase 2: ????????

Effects from Cycle Change and Misc Notes.

  • Everyone on Charlotte's squares takes 5d20 (55 total) from the falling rubble ( @Ash Vargold @Magnolia @Nobody
    • Make a Reflex test to mitigate the damage.
      • A result of 30+ will cut the damage by half.
      • A result of 60+ will ignore the damage entirely.
      • You can get a +5 to this test if you have an appropriate Racial Trait that would help you on this.
  • Priest and Cultist 1 are now unconscious.
  • The pyre is covered by rubble, so you don't take fire damage in that spot anymore.
  • The ghosts don't seem to be angry anymore.
  • If any of you were ever targeted by Mindsend before, you would be able to notice that this is what is being used to talk to you.
  • A similar Clairvoyance spell to the previous one seems to be applied on Charlotte's eyes. Extra layers of magic seem to be protecting it though, so it doesn't seem feasible to break it.
  • No Dissonance can be felt here (Not sure if I needed to say this tbh, but figured I'd point it out in case the distorted text gave that impression).
  • You can now Carry one ally, or the unconscious priest (D5), or the unconscious Cultist (D3) as a Free Action.
    • You can carry anyone for as long as you're in their square or adjacent to them.
  • Charlotte's Phase 2 only starts after the damage phase. So if you lower it below 750 HP in one cycle, the actions of that cycle will still use Phase 1 abilities.
  • You can still use Racial Traits to get a +10 to your combat rolls and a +5 to Mastery/Expertise Checks.
  • Heal and Power Heal: Heal an extra 5 HP for each unused Cleanse Charge.
  • As a reminder, BREAK works like Hinder in this challenge. Only, you can choose if you're damaging SP or HP.

Win Conditions

  • Defeat Charlotte
  • Run (reach Blue Square)

The chosen win condition will affect how things happen as the dungeon ends.

Protected against Charlotte

She felt a small sting at the slimes being put on her, but the following refreshing healing lifted her up. The powers of that Slime girl was intriguing, but so was almost all travelers. "Thank you very much." She nodded, gently plucking the slimes out of her body when they were done healing her.

"Of course, madams." Magnolia replied briefly to the two teammates that had thanked her— But she had no time to bow politely, with rubbles suddenly falling from the ceiling and forcing the maid to swiftly avoid them.

One of the rubbles caught her cloak, but it wasn't enough to hurt the maid, that quickly slipped out of the caught cloth before it dragged her down along with it. A faint breath escaped her lips before she focused her gaze on the bizarre aberration that had just showed up.

Was it dissonance? Magnolia's heart trembled at the idea, but thankfully her face failed to show the evil any sign of fear.

Swatting the dirt coming from the rubbles out of @Nobody's clothes, Magnolia drew her dagger and darted off to the opposite direction of the group, nearing the creature while slashing the blade against its side and trying to thrust it further in while running, trying to open an wound on it across all the path she took until she finally reached her destination, braking with dust raising from her shoes.

"I shall play with you, miss Doll, miss Clown." She invited to catch its attention, facing the aberration.

"Dissonance, is it?"

Glamdark said, getting it totally wrong.

"Well, isn't it just always? Let's stay calm and alive everyone. This is just my opinion, but I think staying calm and alive are the best ways to win."

*scoot scoot*

Saying that.

*scoot scoot*

Glamora Dark quietly put a little bit of distance between her and the monster. Behind her, was a claw-like hand made of dark energy which was dragging the unconscious Cultist 1 behind her. The Darkmaster was in considerably higher spirits on account of the new ventilation airing the musty burny cellar out. She might have even given the mystery voice who sounded a little garbly to her a run for its money in that department.

"Now~ where were we~ oh right~"

Glamdark began to chant her spell as a well of Dark Matter welled up from within her. It looked a bit like the painting Starry Night:

"Darker than Dark~"

"And Darker Still~"

"Where few may wander~"

"Or be fulfilled~"

"Here stands on a gilded stage~"

"The Bella Donna to bring the coming age~"

"I Cast-----"

"-------QUCKQUACKQUACKQUACKQUACKQUACKQUACK"

........

I forgot I stored them in there for later...

As the sorceress's magic expanded outward into a field of glimmering dark energy around her, numerous strange bird dolls seemed to pop out of it and began to charge Chartlotte. 133 of them, to be exact. And they were all terribly weak. Each did a single point of damage as they flapped, pecked, and wielded mighty quackle weapons. Then, they were quickly blown away.

The priest fell, and one other cultist quickly followed. Perhaps they didn't sleep well last night. "Perhaps they shouldn't have judged by appearance. Kinda rude." Lune shrugged toward @Glamora Dark, but not protesting being referred to as a sword-demon-lookalike-made-of-swords.

As the piece of the ceiling fell and the rubbles covered the pyre, the scene that was unfolding made Lune raise her brows. What the fuck. "Okay, that's disturbing." She looked back and forth at the doll and the... otherwordly abomination that was unlike anything she had seen before. And that's saying a lot.

"We just hit it hard enough just like we always do, I think." Readying, she repositioned behind the slime girl. She was preparing a spell when suddenly a hundred quacks filled her ears. The woman turned to see the dolls charging. "Well, if it works..." It doesn't. They were quickly blown away.

The woman sighed deeply, before noticing that @Magnolia was trying to catch its attention. She quickly turned to @Ash Vargold who was on the other side, channeling her power to add some extra power to strike the distracted entity. As her magic connected to him, there was a slight tingle... Her essence reacted to something on him somehow?

Ash's ears pricked at the sound of cracking stone, giving him a chance to jump backwards before any of the rubble could hit him. The priest was not quite as lucky, though. Should I feel back about that...?

Well, the priest had been the one ranting about killing players, so... nah. Especially since he had some kind of... clown worm to worry about. He glanced at @Glamdark as she made a very confident and thankfully very incorrect assumption.

"Definitely not Dissonant," he said, eyes darting as if he could find a source for the voice. "UI would be glitchy. But someone around here's playing mind games-"

...that had been a lot of birds. A lot of Not Very Effective Birds.

"...okay. Anyway. I think there's an elf around here..."

Gamers would be gamers.

A big clown-worm-monster was a far less distressing target than the priest, at least. Ash took a breath, mind clear of the spirit's anger, and fed both @Lune's gifted power and his own energy into his blade, which drank it up eagerly-

...? Something's off.

But he was already partway through the attack, sword swinging wide to cut a gash into the monster's surface. It was a perfectly good hit, perhaps even better than usual, but there was still something weird about the weapon. "Lune, is this a different sword?"

Nobody stared up in horror as the innocent little ghost campfire turned into a nightmare show. It was already kind of a nightmare show, actually, but clowns... that was too darn far, Terrasphere! She'd be lucky to even sleep tonight!

Thanking the maid was the last thing on Nobody's mind, as she ran for the door at full speed, stopping only to side-step the occasional piece of ceiling. "Why did I think this was a good idea!!?" she cried.

As their queen ran for the hills, the dutiful slimes around the room stood strong, stacking atop one another and forming several walls of blobby bodies between the ghost and Nobody's similarly-spooky allies.

Several slimes also tried protecting the queen, but that peace of mind was dashed instantly, as a giant rock landed true, taking them all out in one shot and leaving Nobody there in the open.

As you attacked Charlotte you... Couldn't see much damage in its body. It certainly didn't bleed, and while the wounds weren't regenerating, it didn't seem like they were affecting Charlotte's fighting capabilities in any way. It kinda looked as if you had made a small cut in a giant fabric-made doll.

That's not to say nothing happened though... In fact, something very noticeable happened... As in, you were all assaulted by a strong wave of joy. An even stronger wave than the last one, in fact.

"W̴̦͊h̷̗̐a̶͍̔t̶͚̊'̵̟̋s̶͓͋ ̶̝̋t̵̼̀h̵̉ͅĩ̴̳ș̴̀?̶̤̇ ̷͚̓Ẏ̷̤o̵̳̅ȕ̶̜'̶͇̽r̴̖͐e̶̝͛ ̴̪̈a̸̡̓c̸̢̒t̷̤̾ṷ̷̆a̷̯͗l̸̩̊l̴͈͝y̸̦̚ ̴͙͠p̶̻̄ĺ̵̨a̴̫͗y̸̎͜i̷͓͗ṉ̷̐g̵̜̎ ̶̣͌ẃ̴̱ḯ̶̺t̶͔͐h̶̄͜ ̸̛̫Ç̴̏h̴̘̊ă̷̙l̵̻̓õ̴̪t̸͔͒ṯ̷̚e̷̥͝ ̶̧͌i̴̬̕n̷̡̂s̷̝̆t̵͓͝ě̸͖a̸̰͌d̸͔̏ ̸̙̕o̸̗͝f̸̧͌ ̸̗̊ŕ̴̝ǔ̷͖n̶͍̎n̵̻̓í̴̝n̶̮͛g̶̯̚ ̶̣͌ȁ̵̻w̶̬͒a̶͎͠ỵ̸̚ ̶̣́f̵̜͋r̵̭̂o̵̼͒m̸̜̌ ̸͓̔i̴͔͆ț̷̇!̷̢̆?̸̣̽ ̴͓̚T̷̰̾h̸͖͠â̷͉t̸̥͊'̵̦̿s̶̯̓ ̸́͜s̵̺̿o̶͈̾ ̸͉̇c̴̯̕ủ̵̫t̴̛ͅe̴͖͂!̷̭̓ ̴̜͌S̸͎͊o̵̢̊ ̷̗̊l̸̡̎ô̸̲v̷̪͒é̶̟l̷̠̎y̴̨̾!̶̝̊ ̵̝̅I̴͇̋t̷̢̋'̶̠̀s̶̗͠ ̸̨̀s̸̞̄o̷̜͊ ̶̯͐n̵̯̄i̶̖̕c̶̮̃é̷͙ ̷̬̏t̷̙̑o̸̜̐ ̸̛̗f̵͍̒í̶͜n̸͇͒d̸̦̓ ̴̪͘p̷̢͝r̴̝̽o̴͍͝p̶̡̃ē̷̦r̵͉̃ ̶̖͗p̴̳͒l̶͙̿ä̶̳́y̷̖̕ï̷͍n̴̜̏g̶̠͑ ̵̭́p̵̠͘a̷̻̅r̴͔͠t̴̺́n̷̫̏é̸̯r̷̗̈́s̷̳̀ ̸̣͝f̷̮̀o̶̩̿r̵͙͊ ̷̻͊å̷ͅ ̴̪͑c̴̹͑h̶͇͝â̷͇n̵̠͌g̶̦͌ĕ̶̖!̵̞̑

Charlotte turned to look at @Nobody for a second. With its clown face grinning wildly... Before it turned to @Magnolia and attempted to bite off her arm.

The doll that the clown-thing was coming out of started dancing in place. While it was very hard to see anything as it danced with a gigantic clown-worm thingy coming out of its mouth, the doll seemed to be doing a very childish dance. The kind you'd see at an elementary school or something.

Damage Log

@Magnolia was attacked by Charlotte and took 100 damage.

Cycle 5 Rules

  • You can Carry one ally, or the unconscious priest (D5), or the unconscious Cultist (G2) as a Free Action.
  • You can try doing something that isn't listed above if you want. Ask me about it and I'll say if it's possible.

Win Conditions

  • Defeat Charlotte
  • Run (reach Blue Square)

The chosen win condition will affect how things happen as the dungeon ends.

Magnolia felt her arm's flesh being torn by the aberration's fangs while she tried to yank it out of its grip with a brief grunt. Blood rolled out of the gashes on her arm, but Magnolia didn't avert her eyes from the beast, sneaking a hand into her dress to pull out a flask with an intense scarlet liquid in it.

Running away was an option, but Magnolia was certain not everyone could just leave that place. Besides, letting that beast go stray was an invitation for a much bigger problem in the future.

Biting the cork off the flask, Magnolia poured it on her arm, with a hissing pink steam escaping from her wounds as they rapidly closed. Then, she rushed forward, leaping to roll out of any incoming attack of the beast and approach @Ash Vargold, stretching the half-full flask. "Here, sir Vargold. It isn't much but it is everything I have right now."

Then, with her arm mostly recovered, she charged in to try to sink her blade on the thin part of the worm's body, near the mouth of the doll.

"NOT Dissonance?"

Glamdark asked @Ash Vargold incredulously, as if gesturing at the entire monster with the pitch of her voice. But he seemed occupied, and Magnolia seemed to be dying.

"This isn't good… I'm having trouble wresting control of the mana in the area, and my magic seems like an odd matchup for this almost dissonance thing. Dissonant adjacent. Sure. Let's go with that."

Glamora Dark kind of wanted there to be only one type of gross monster. There being two just doubled the possibilities of what she might run into when she takes a random quest in the interests of stealing a spell that she has long since decided that she most definitely does not want.

As this quiet complaint ran through her, myriad slimes got smashed on her behalf. And, as if that punctuated it, Glamora Dark seemed to have made up her mind.

"You know... I really don't like this spell."

The Darkmaster said, as she held her staff aloft with one arm, like it was a laser pointer. She seemed to be tracing or aiming at something, but it really wasn't clear what. She also seemed to holding the staff just a liiiiitle further away from herself than would seem natural. Just a little. She certainly didn't have one eye closed as she leaned back with one leg in the air as if to shield herself from something.

"..."

"Glamarts."

There was a sound like a zipper or a record scratch.

"Dark Finales Fulcrum."

(World Razor)

It was an anti-aberration spell. Or, more accurately, it was like baiting and directing some unknowable purging force away from her.

The bait had been her lingering Dark Counter Curse. As for the switch...

...Her coordinates had been off (171, 75).

...But, the damage was done.

Some aspects of whatever ritual or spell or core or concept that maintained the mysterious creature were no longer there.

Like removing all of one complimentary color from a painting.

"No?" One brow raised as she turned to Ash. She has no other weapons stored inside her inventory except hers. "It's the same one." Something was indeed strange with the sword. No other weapon was ever this eager to feed off her energy (except the nameless sword, but that was a different beast entirely).

Whatever questions they have, they could be resolved later. As of now, they have a bigger problem. The grotesque being seemed to not take that much damage from the party. And with every speech it produced, Lune's head ached more.

"It kept focusing on one person."

Analyzing the move, she turned to the others to keep their distance as she charged another wave of life force energy toward Ash's sword. "If we position ourselves, we should be able to take this thing down."

Hopefully, it doesn't suddenly turn around and smack her while she is still concentrating.

Ash nodded incredulously at @Glamora Dark .

"Not Dissonance. No need to sound disappointed about it..."

Ash shifted out of the way as Charlotte struck - good for him, but not so good for @Magnolia taking the brunt of the hit. "Hey, are you okay?" Normally he was the one on the front line - seeing others taking the brunt made him wince in a way he didn't expect. He accepted the offered potion gratefully, but still frowned. "You don't have to call me sir, y'know. And you should be taking care of yourself first."

He turned his attention. back towards Lune, nodding as he felt the healing energy wash over him. Once again, the sword seemed to... react in a way he couldn't quite place, despite looking and apparently being the same steel sword he'd... left with Lune. "If you're sure..."

Ash slashed upwards, dragging the swordtip across the body of the thrashing worm. The cut it left seemed as superficial as the rest, but it provided an opening for the spectral claws surging along the blade and into the gash to tear at the inside.

"You have a very strange idea of play! Why are you hiding away from the 'fun', anyway?"

As the lonely slime queen laid there on the ground, she stared up at the horrific clown face like a cloud of death, despair, and various degrees of childhood trauma. Thankfully, she wasn't a child, but she sure felt like one compared to this thing... ironic, really.

"HEEEELLLLP!!" she shrieked, despite being considerably more healthy than most. All the more as another wave of life was pumped into her by @Lune. The maid once again showed herself to be an amazing help here: literally a lifesaver!

Meanwhile, her slime army answered the call of distress, lining up and spitting high pressure water at the monster while blocking its attacks. Seemingly endless waves of slimes, willing to die for the duty of their cowardly queen and her mates.

Charlotte's body kept on moving at the same pace as before. It truly looked like damaging it didn't matter at all... However, it was clear that damage was piling up. More and more portions of Charlotte's body were damaged. Surely it couldn't keep going for long? Eventually the body just had to crumble.

Nonetheless, the clown-thing was still smiling as it turned towards @Glamora Dark , and the distorted voice in your heads also seemed to be having just as much fun as before. The aberration's tackle on Magnolia knocked her away, the maid sank her daggers on the ground, sliding and braking her stumbling with the blades sending sparks against the floor.

Wordless, it took a moment for Magnolia to recover her breath, resting one of her knees against the floor while locking her empty gaze on the beast.

Wincing, she huffed, forcing herself forward and to charge the beast in reckless abandon, body slamming the creature and piercing the dagger against it, trying to twist the weapon fiercely inside of the diabolic horror they were dealing with— Casting a brief glance at @Nobody to Painbear any attack that would afflict her.

Fuck, it's like a fever dream, the clown face is so disturbing. As it smiled and zoomed even faster around them, Lune was thinking of a plan to finish it. It was definitely weakened, but so was the party (not her, for some reason).

Perhaps this was the privilege of looking like a sword demon or something. She doesn't complain.

She turned @Nobody and her army of slimes. "Alright, if we gather enough slimes, perhaps we can get them to drown the monster in slimes?" Not waiting for an answer, Lune quickly just nodded. "Yeah, perhaps we do that."

Closing her eyes, she focused on the inner part of her core. Imagining a valve inside, she turned it to let more of her power flow, as she burst out her energy toward @Glamora Dark and @Ash Vargold.

"We have our chance! Let's go!"

"Oh good~ I'm not
Ultra Dead."

Glamdark said opening her eyes and returning to a normal standing position.

She really didn't like that spell.

Seeing Charlotte still standing, if you could call that standing, and determine which one to call Charlotte...

---Focus Glamdark.

Getting to it then, you see the problem was that the monster was still there.

----Well, that figures.

It was around then that Lune ordered the party to give it another round of everything. Glamdark could get behind that. She really didn't want anyone to die.

"Okay~ Okay~ I'll 'go', but how do you expect me to go more? I'm already going! In fact, I'm maybe a little bit tired!"

She whined a bit. There was a voice that had been mentally speaking to her for awhile now, but between all the static in the 'call' she really wasn't sure what it was saying.

Glamdark directed a thought its way.

< My dude. >
< I have no idea what you're trying to say. >
< It sounds like you're gargling marbles. >

Glamdark felt @Lune 's War Arts Kill-Magic flow into her.

"Oh nice~! Keep doing what you're doing~! Burn those Command Seals for everyone's favorite Grand Caster~!"

The Darkmaster's brows furrowed as a series of gilded runes of darkness formed...

< But you can't have my maid. >
< Or my slime regent. >
< Or my sword demon. >
< Or my ikemen ghost guy. >

"Glam Arts~! Dark Misery Slots~!"

The runes formed into a series of random numbers that flashed golden sparks as they rapidly changed before each eventually *popped* on a number forming a sequence. This set in motion a dark curse that caused numerous little explosions on wormy Charlotte's body.

Ash frowned, glancing at the doll from which the ragworm emerged. That... wasn't the person communicating with them, right? It was obviously an elf they were dealing with, and that was something else. "Ugh, whatever. I'm getting bored of your "playtime" anyway."

And he was getting tired, too. He'd burnt more of his energy than he'd expected, trying to take this thing down.

He ignored the way his sword seemed to shift in response to @Lune's gifted energy - they could figure that one out later, hopefully. He added his own power to the mix as he ducked around Charlotte and lunged for the doll sitting in the center of the room.

By the time Nobody finally yanked her jacket out from beneath the fallen chunk of ceiling, the scene was absolute chaos. For a brief moment, she was a lost deer in the headlights, but the sorceress throwing around life energy finally helped her come to.

"U-Uhm... yeah, sure," she answered. Normally, she'd just run for the door, but at this point, they'd thrown so much at the demon clown, it was already looking pretty beat. Plus, the possibility of getting rid of more of these stupid slimes sounded nice.

"Err... get 'er! Go, you... slimes..." Nobody pointed a blue finger at the clown face, and to her surprise, the slimes around the room actually responded, surging forward and pounding it down with their little blobby bodies. It wasn't much, but it was enough.

"Huh... I didn't think that would work, actually..." she admitted, scratching her head with a nervous laugh.

As your attacks kept on piling up on Charlotte's body, it kept on attacking you... Until eventually, the worm-like thing grinned very widely, and you were all assaulted by the biggest wave of joy you have felt come out of it so far.

And then, it stopped. Both the doll and the worm-like portions of Charlotte flopped down and became inert. The clairvoyance in Charlotte's eyes also faded, and things seemed to be calm for once.

... What even was that though? And who was it that was talking to you? And what did they specifically mean when saying they were 'taking care' of their other toys?

You had a bit too little information to go by right now... But, you had 2 captured cultists that you could bring back to the Lions for interrogation as well as... Well, whatever Charlotte was. Perhaps it could be analyzed by MIT.

For now, it seemed like you could at least rest a bit though... And perhaps start planning your trip home as well.

Except... Once you all finished making your arrangements and left the basement, you saw something that may not have been in your expectations...

A little while ago

He was running. He was desperately running. He knew that she was coming. He knew that he couldn't stop. He had to run. He had to run.

Yet he tripped. He tried to get up, but his strength was leaving him with each passing second... And she was too close. He tried to crawl away, but she was closer... He turned around, he saw her. The smiling pink-haired girl. She was looming over him, blood dripping from her cloak onto his shivering body.

"W-why!?" He couldn't help asking, "You were our comrade! You were the one who told us the names of the heathen! You told us where they lived... Why!? Why did you betray us!?"

The girl's smiled widened, "Oh dear... You still didn't get it?" She lifted his chin with her hand as she brought her face closer to his, "I never betrayed you."

The man's eyes went wide with disbelief. Her words made no sense. They did not align with her actions.

... At least not until her next words that is, "I was never on your side in your first place. I was just playing around, you know?

"You see..."
She gave out an absolutely maddening grin, "I just love seeing people's terrified stares as they die." and stabbed her knife deep into the cultist's guts, "Especially when their death comes from someone they trusted."

His eyes went wide, he knew he was not going to last much longer.

"Don't worry though. I'll be sure to tell your bishop that you all died honorably in your fight against the Starcalled." She giggled.

And then, the man breathed his last.

After that, the pink-haired elf twirled around, happily spilling blood drops from her cloak, "Well, then... Let's prepare the scene. Can't have the next act start without the stage being properly set, right?"

In response to her words, a large shadow appeared from below the girl, picking her and the cultist up... And together with them, the bodies of two other cultists were carried to the girl's desired location.

Kaname_witch_form_power.jpg

A bit after she was done with her preparations and had already left the place, she saw how the Starcalled were about to defeat Charlotte... She couldn't help letting a smile get to her face at that.

With her connection with her defeated creation lost, she could no longer watch what the Starcalled were doing, but it didn't matter at this point. She just smiled and talked to herself, "To think Charlotte could actually lose... I wonder if I was too stingy with the materials I used to make her? Or maybe I made her play around too much?

"Well, I can always remake her later... This is looking fun though. Those Starcalled are performing better than expected.

"But well... We can play more when we meet up next time... For now, I guess I should go back to the bishop to report. Wouldn't be fun to lose up on such a wonderful toy by ignoring it, after all."
The girl smiled, and started moving to the usual headquarters.

Present Time

When your group left the basement, you were met with... A sight.

Three cultist bodies. All bloodied. Filled with stab wounds all over them. They were clearly stabbed way more times than it would be needed to kill them.

It wasn't very hard to figure out that those were the cultists that had escaped you... Seems like the luckier ones were actually the captured ones.

Lastly... The upper portion of the basement's door had something written on it with blood... Thank you for heeding my letter. Let's play some more next time!

Challenge cleared!

Thank you all for participating! I hope you all had fun with it! ^^)/

Feel free to write some wrap-up posts if you want!
