As your attacks kept on piling up on Charlotte's body, it kept on attacking you... Until eventually, the worm-like thing grinned very widely, and you were all assaulted by the biggest wave of joy you have felt come out of it so far.
And then, it stopped. Both the doll and the worm-like portions of Charlotte flopped down and became inert. The clairvoyance in Charlotte's eyes also faded, and things seemed to be calm for once.
... What even was that though? And who was it that was talking to you? And what did they specifically mean when saying they were 'taking care' of their other toys?
You had a bit too little information to go by right now... But, you had 2 captured cultists that you could bring back to the Lions for interrogation as well as... Well, whatever Charlotte was. Perhaps it could be analyzed by MIT.
For now, it seemed like you could at least rest a bit though... And perhaps start planning your trip home as well.
Except... Once you all finished making your arrangements and left the basement, you saw something that may not have been in your expectations...
A little while ago
He was running. He was desperately running. He knew that she was coming. He knew that he couldn't stop. He had to run. He had to run.
Yet he tripped. He tried to get up, but his strength was leaving him with each passing second... And she was too close. He tried to crawl away, but she was closer... He turned around, he saw her. The smiling pink-haired girl. She was looming over him, blood dripping from her cloak onto his shivering body.
"W-why!?" He couldn't help asking,
"You were our comrade! You were the one who told us the names of the heathen! You told us where they lived... Why!? Why did you betray us!?"
The girl's smiled widened,
"Oh dear... You still didn't get it?" She lifted his chin with her hand as she brought her face closer to his,
"I never betrayed you."
The man's eyes went wide with disbelief. Her words made no sense. They did not align with her actions.
... At least not until her next words that is,
"I was never on your side in your first place. I was just playing around, you know?
"You see..." She gave out an absolutely maddening grin,
"I just love seeing people's terrified stares as they die." and stabbed her knife deep into the cultist's guts,
"Especially when their death comes from someone they trusted."
His eyes went wide, he knew he was not going to last much longer.
"Don't worry though. I'll be sure to tell your bishop that you all died honorably in your fight against the Starcalled." She giggled.
And then, the man breathed his last.
After that, the pink-haired elf twirled around, happily spilling blood drops from her cloak,
"Well, then... Let's prepare the scene. Can't have the next act start without the stage being properly set, right?"
In response to her words, a large shadow appeared from below the girl, picking her and the cultist up... And together with them, the bodies of two other cultists were carried to the girl's desired location.
A bit after she was done with her preparations and had already left the place, she saw how the Starcalled were about to defeat Charlotte... She couldn't help letting a smile get to her face at that.
With her connection with her defeated creation lost, she could no longer watch what the Starcalled were doing, but it didn't matter at this point. She just smiled and talked to herself,
"To think Charlotte could actually lose... I wonder if I was too stingy with the materials I used to make her? Or maybe I made her play around too much?
"Well, I can always remake her later... This is looking fun though. Those Starcalled are performing better than expected.
"But well... We can play more when we meet up next time... For now, I guess I should go back to the bishop to report. Wouldn't be fun to lose up on such a wonderful toy by ignoring it, after all." The girl smiled, and started moving to the usual headquarters.
Present Time
When your group left the basement, you were met with... A sight.
Three cultist bodies. All bloodied. Filled with stab wounds all over them. They were clearly stabbed way more times than it would be needed to kill them.
It wasn't very hard to figure out that those were the cultists that had escaped you... Seems like the luckier ones were actually the captured ones.
Lastly... The upper portion of the basement's door had something written on it with blood...
Thank you for heeding my letter. Let's play some more next time!
Challenge cleared!
Thank you all for participating! I hope you all had fun with it! ^^)/
Feel free to write some wrap-up posts if you want!
