‎[Cold] 10
[‎Movement] Leviathan's Wake -> Leviathan's Appendages

-5 HP (Stormcall)
Super Vulnerable

Perhaps it was a good thing that she did not fall onto the ship. Its sturdy surface had protected her well against the Leviathan's whiplash, its thrashing, and other forms of retaliation. Her specialized boots dug into the iced surface of the sea as the cold-laden fox tried to regain her posture. As her eyes wandered from one thing to another, they finally rested at the distant head of the Leviathan as it opened its maw. It was awake.

"Oh blimey... that thing is gonna make us all meet at Davy Jones' locker..."

And, sure enough, it happened only mere moments later. A tentacle broke through the ice and wrapped itself around the longboat, the sheer force of the action making Charlotte take a few steps back even if she already stood a fair distance away. Just like that, the only true source of solid footing was gone, along with their source of warmth. Not that the girl had made any use of it so far... but she was kinda looking forward to doing so by now!

"Bah! Where is Ulfr! Is that old salt even alive at this point..?"

Her cries went unanswered. She didn't even know if anyone else was still alive. Hard to tell, given the weather and general chaos. Although there was one thing, she managed to spot in the white haze that enveloped her... flickers of blue and purple. A small cat, clearly not real and an illusion of some sort. But Charlotte knew right away what it was.

"Sink me! Neferi, here! Bloody... here..!"

It was indeed an illusion. A lost-distance one, used by one of her crewmates and often used to scout inaccessible areas. That meant her ship finally made some progress through the frozen sea as well, and they must have been at least somewhat close.

"Huh? Oh, Captain! We were looking for ya! Hard to see anything above these waters, gotta say. Pockets is refusing to even come out on the deck~"

The small feline spoke in a human tongue, solidifying that it was indeed a creation of someone with the mastery of illusions.

"Nevermind that, bigger problems! The Leviathan sunk the one ship capable of braving these waves, and it aims to make us dead men!"

"Wha-wait, hold on! How are we even supposed to help? It took us this long to even get anywhere close to you, and there's no way we can get the ship all the way to you!"

Then, Charlotte spotted it. The bright light that surfaced and the Starcalled that had survived and were doing their best to keep the warmth that was their lifeline alive. A wide smile grew across the small captain's expression.

"All hands on deck, that's how! Keep a lookout for a light and aim slightly above it! Fire EVERYTHING you've got!"

With that, she dashed toward the location of the sunken ship, leaving behind the illusory cat. The closer she got to the lantern, the warmer her body felt, the more agile she became. Leaping from one piece of ice to another, from a loose piece of the wreck to floating boxes, she quickly got the source of light, took a hold of it, and threw it directly into the air.

‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ALL-OUT BOMBARDMENT‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

Soon, the rain of cannonballs pierced the fog and storm, metal balls colliding with the appendages and Leviathan's body to erupt in fiery explosions as they were augmented with pyromancy. The hail almost seemed to ignite the air itself for a brief moment The barrage was relentless, and it would not stop until the distant ship would simply run out. But by then, even the mighty Leviathan must have felt its might.

"HAH, Hell yeah! Take that, you glorified shark bait! Return to the briny deep whence you came from!"

When Kamala caught a glimpse of @Ayna Nietzsche getting swallowed by the beast, she screamed. She screamed her friend's name, her protest at the brutality that she had just witnessed with elven eyes as wide as they could become, and her fear and horror mixed together. Yet she could do nothing, as their longship was then sunk by far too many tentacles for her to count at that moment. Kamala felt the freezing cold take over her body as she, too, sunk to the depths, surrounded by remnants of their once sturdy vessel, debris and wood. As she felt lost to the sea, she muttered Ayna's name in her head, allowing her eyes to slowly close...

That was when she saw the Light of Tyldr burn bright beyond the waters, and at the last moment, she found the courage and motivation to keep fighting. Ayna wouldn't want me to give up like this! She swam upward, pushing herself past wood and debris with her elven legs, using that despair and @Chrys' Savior ability as added fuel to her own fire. Once she surfaced, she immediately cleared her face of her own hair, wet and sticking everywhere, before looking around for any other survivors. We can't let Ayna's sacrifice be in vain!

Still in the water, Kamala channeled the mending spirit of nature to bathe her and her friends with a shielding barrier that healed them over the brief time it persisted. Graceful swirls of green and white light danced in the air around her while phantasmal green leaves wafted through the air as the translucent shielding barrier manifested, a fragment of the illusory sanctuary that many elven have dubbed the "Garden of Gwyndolainn," all while a whimsical and playful tune was heard throughout. Those embraced by nature's magic felt a sensation of gentle warmth, the smell of spring flowers surrounding them.

Chrys watched in horror as @Ayna Nietzsche was swallowed whole. What...the hell?! Hell answered him immediately, ripping their longship to shreds like it was nothing more than Chrys' exam papers after his professor found out he was sleeping with his daughter. The Stalwart Defender couldn't even do anything about it and instead, much like @Kamala Graham, fell into the freezing waters below. Unlike Kamala, however, Chrys didn't really surrender, flailing in the water out of fear and concern that he was going to sink to the bottom of the ocean like the massive rock that he was. Shit, shit, shit!

By some miracle, however, Chrys found a floating piece of wood and lunged at it in a miserable attempt to keep himself afloat. Catching sight of Kamala trying to heal people again, all while struggling to keep his own neck out of the water, he manifested his Thousand Sparkling Gold through his Auric Geomancy, and hurled jagged shards of rocks and stones at the stupid fish monster's face. After the impact, as the shards turned to barely visible grains of sand, he had those swirl around Kamala like a translucent shield as protection. Heal...me...next!

❰ Thousand Sparkling Gold: Armillary Sphere Screen ❱

Frustrated at what was happening around him, Chrys then imposed his taunting aura, which resembled a raging bull demon, and through its visage, screamed at the Leviathan with all that remained of his might.

"HEY, YOU LONG-ASS GLUTTONOUS SON OF A FISH! THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!"

He then gave it the finger. Both as himself and through his raging bull demon aura. Who knew such a gesture could grant one fleeting immortality?

The dark-haired boy gasped as he was hunched over, his limbs drained of energy from tapping into the dark powers that remain within him. When he received a scolding from a random woman (@Lune) who happened to be one of the oar people, he formed a smirk at the corner of his mouth.

“Well, you answered the call of the Shadow Lord, did you not? You have my appreciation.” he chuckled.

When the magical shield shrouded him, Kirius wiped the sweat from his brows as the biting cold wind whipped through his hair. He was granted respite, though it was a short one. As he concentrated on drawing the frigid air into his lungs and releasing it as a blast of steam, unease crept over him.

Moments later, the water beneath the ship began to churn and boil as the Leviathan limbs wrapped around the ship and pulled them under in seconds.

Air bubbled forth from Kirius’ lungs as he gasped for air, all the while pulled down by the cold torrent that ravaged his sense of direction. He couldn’t tell up from down, freezing in the insulation prison that was his heavy armor. Oh, how they felt like chains.

He kicked and swam upward, fighting the exhaustion that had set in. He wasn’t going to let the sea witch and her pet end the fun there. Oh no.

When he burst out of the water, Kirius swung his sword up into the air and cloned the weapon so that there were two of them, using the shadowy power to hurl their deadly-sharp tips toward the monstrosity on the horizon.

When he felt @Kamala Graham’s warm energy warding away the deathly water, he shouted in her direction.

“Never mind the grave wounds on me! Focus on the Rockman before he drowns!!!”

And to @Lune, he called out, whether she was, "The light carrier (@Erick Stryker) is going to need a cover. In what corner of Ilmea's hellish pond are you?!"

"This thing tries to eat me, I swear to EXO, it’s gonna die choking."

And then everything faded to black.

Did I…get fucking eaten? Ayna scowled. In the dark. In the belly of the beast. Or at least its mouth. Maybe throat? Wherever she was, it was fucking dark. Thank the gods for her spear and her lightning. Charging the blade with her magic let her see a bit, though it was no more help than simply stating, or in this case, presenting the obvious. Yep, definitely eaten. Fucking hell.

Well, swallowed, more appropriately, but Ayna did not have time to be appropriate. Being swallowed whole by a massive sea monster does that to a person, even if that person is technically just bits and bolts. What the fuck?! She could hear @Chrys now, rolling his eyes and going “told you speed wasn’t everything” like a giant douchebag. @Kamala Graham, on the other hand, would probably just feel sad and stuff. It’s not like I wanted to be swallowed, though.

"GODS FUCKING DAMN IT!"

Ayna screamed as she began to stab and pierce and thrust at the creature’s interior. You know that joke about marrying an interior decorator and becoming her interior destroyer? An audible groan would have been heard from someone if she wasn’t inside the Leviathan. And if that someone could read minds. Well, I’m gonna be both!

"YOU WANT TO EAT ME, YOU FUCKING FUCK?! EAT THIS!"

Most people in her position would cry, rendered helpless by the sheer enormity of such tragic fate, but not Ayna. If she was going to die there, she was going to take the fucker with her. Ayna unveiled a greater shard of her Storm's Eye to perform a twin-attack combo with her lightning-charged polearm, lunging at the monster’s insides to stab at anything and everything she could, moving and spinning around the dimly lit space, the blade of her weapon her only source of light. It was like one of those horror movies where everything was dark and only split-second flashes of action can be seen, mostly because the production ran out of budget to do justice to the actual sequence. Fuck those movies!

❰ True Teachings of Enlightningment: Appearance of Calamity ❱

Her body and mind were on fire, but like what happens to fire when trapped in a container with neither fuel nor air, it was only a matter of time before she burnt herself out. Still, Ayna wouldn’t go out with a whimper. She was going to go out with violent rage. You. Want. Me. To. Die. Like. This?! I. Will. Fuck. Your. Insides. Up. So bad. That. You. Won’t be able. To eat. For months. You overgrown. Shrimp! Salty! Stinky! <basseal honk>! <basseal honk but in Japanese>! <basseal honk but in Mandarin>!

And still, it wasn't enough.

As the battles raged around him, Tetsunosuke was just quietly biding his time in the longship, rowing with all of his might while observing each battle before him. He knew that this should be the best chance to get some specimens of this monster before him that he had taken on this job. Although he was an agnostic in a lot of these beliefs in this world or even in his own world, he knew that the system within this world was acting in its own mysterious ways, so he knew that the lantern glowing before him was a true manifestation of the "gods" that the system of this world aimed for him to believe in while in this world. And so, he was at peace while obeying orders and exerting his strength in rowing while the others fought.

But, at the crucial juncture, the longship was crushed and Tetsunosuke was then left on the cold waters flailing around while keeping close to the lantern. At this juncture he then knew that he should not be lazing around earlier if he knew this kind of disaster would happen. And so, as he knew that they might all die here if he did not do anything, he then decided to reject all of the romanticism that he had used to exercise while he was still rowing, as he then beckoned the mech that was just nearby that he had transformed into something that looked like a carrier into his position. Once he had done this, he then embarked on the carrier and then, as the turbines of the carrier whirred furiously, he then had the carrier beeline into the Leviathan, and then, with quick maneuvering, rammed it with its axe-like body twice.

As Tetsunosuke then pondered on the actions that he did, a prayer then left his lips that his agnostic machine self would never have thought uttering. That he hoped that Tyldr would forgive the break from romanticism that he had done on this venerable day.

Until now, she had stayed back and let the others fight. The wood of the oar was rough beneath her fingers, but the labor was comforting, and it let her focus on more subtle ways to help, keeping the hearts of the others roused as the circumstances grew wild. Now, that comfort was gone. The ship was broken, swallowed by the sea beneath them.

Bluebird danced skyward as the serpent coiled around them, watching as others threw fell to a desperate struggle against it. She could choose to leave here. To let the wind carry her away before any knew she was there. But the sea was wide and endless, and she only had so much breath.

She would stand, then, and spend her breath on this endeavor, in the one way she knew how.

"...we'll rant and we'll roar, like true Starcalled sailors..."

She raised her voice as she skipped up Leviathan's body, the wind gathering into a storm of blades around her. They sliced mercilessly at the beast's scales, ripping through to the softer flesh beneath. She could not reach the crown, but that bravery was not for her, here.

"We'll rant and we'll roar, all on the salt seas!"

Song and sail were ever paired together, man's eternal partner against the merciless sea. Bluebird would continue that tradition now. They would need it more than ever.

Snowbreak Against Lamenting Waves
Cycle 5

A candlelight flickered, then faded, against its form.

The imitation of a God's divine regalia gouged out the serpent's form, a black scar seared.

Pebbles scattered over its flesh.

The cannonballs struck with explosive aplomb, a deafening salvo delivered from distant seas.

Sardines flocked, covering for individual deficiencies.

That bovine aura emerged once more, grandly in defense to the bearer of spring-wind benedictions.

Errant tendrils were lost to pinprick razors.

The Shadow drew out his twinned swords at last, and made spears of them to pierce through storm and night.

Something snagged in its throat.

Lightning crackled with fury and desperation, composure lost to berserk indignation and amethyst calamity.

The winds picked up somewhat. A bluebird's song.

Something strange bumped into its side. A mechanic's gambit.

For a moment, the hunger surged once more, its mother's hands grasping upon its mind, filling it with a tidal wrath. Such small, weak things. Scattered minnows who could not even survive the saltwater expanse, borrowing power from the traitor-God. Filled to the brim with arrogance, when they knew that the oceans were not domains in which divinity treaded.

But still. There was reason to pause. An eternity stretched out for them, and this year, the aberrant pawns of that abomination made their faces known. Aberrant pawns with curious toys.

The Witchmother whispered still, but her lamentations quieted. Her Child, Third to Wake, opened their mouth and spat out the bone that had been stuck inside.

There was time to grow. There was time to change.

And there was a new element at play.

A hundred appendages converged upon the metal boat that had bounced against its body, wrapping around its shell before dragging it down into the depths. The flea atop would float, of course, but it was too scrawny to be concerned with either. And as that construction was submerged, so too did the Leviathan as well.

It sank into the depths, eyes closed.

And in the echoes of its plunge, the storm was spent, leaving only murky waters and choppy waves, the detritus of a battle fought.

Neither won, neither lost.

Only lived.

Got you, lassie!

A wall of muscle cradled @Ayna Nietzsche as she flew through the air at such speeds that sound was denied. Her body was scalding, steaming, from the unnatural heat of the Leviathan's body, the acidity of its digestive juices, but she had been spat out before her flesh had turned to goop, and she had been spared too the unforunate fate of being splattered against ocean's surface by Ulfr. The two of them skidded against the waves thrice, each impact absorbed by the bearman's body, before they ultimately crashed into the sails of the remaining longship, sliding off the canvas and into a pile of Leviathan meat.

And how much meat there was! Steaming, bloody chunks, thick with fat and muscle! It stank as raw sea-meat did, but it was luxury all the same, the oarsmen constantly bailing water out of their longship as it rode below the water. Others tossed ropes towards the boatless Starcalled, pulling them onboard, clapping them on the back or the shoulder. Hearty laughs mingled with winces from injuries incurred, and the light of the two Lanterns burned bright at the kinship that only comrades could share.

Ulfr untangled himself from the guts that he had hewed off the monstrosity. Stumbled a bit, trying to find space for his feet in the ever-more crowded deck. It was definitely on the threshold of sinking now, but they had collected a bounty of food, of warriors, and it would be foolish for any of them to be dumped overboard, when they could simply dump water overboard instead.

So, what was a man of the sea, greedy and lusty, to do?

Well fought, brothers and sisters, neighbours and adventurers! I'd have a speech, but we're currently on the cusp of sinking, so grab an oar or a bucket and push your backs one more time.

The wind blew with it the stench of salt and blood, of lightning and ice, but now, it blew in their direction. Landbound, victorious.

We've a bath and a feast to attend on our return, and a whole lotta fishflesh to cook!
