It's primordial gaze fell upon him, but Erick did not hesitate.

Not simply for the heat that stoked his inner flames, but for the sake of his allies who had thrown themselves ahead into harm's way. His Oath was a promise not to back down, one he made to a god perhaps, but also to himself. To render aide to those in need, regardless of any danger to life or limb on his own part.

It was then that the Cleric made her own heroic sacrifice. Without warning, she invoked her own Oath to Tyldr and called back @Ayna Nietzsche from the frigid maw of death. Erick had no time to process what had happened. One after the other, the sea had swallowed two others, and now, perhaps one of the most integral members of the haphazardly hewn together group was on the creature's menu.

Even as she made her way back through frigid waters, Erick reached out with gilded light, plucking at the hands of the clock as he concentrated on the Healer.

And he began to weave the thread backward, rapidly, extracting the greater part of the numbness and tingle that came from electricity, rigid crystals, and blistery chill from her flesh as if they had never been there at all. The pain itself would linger, perhaps- but her vitality would be restored.

"Try not to make a habit out of that, miss," Erick offered Kamala a reassuring smile, all the while keeping his eyes fervently locked onto their behemoth adversary. "You've got to make sure the rest of us don't die, y'know?"

Chrys clenched his jaw as he watched @Ayna Nietzsche Leeroy Jenkins her way straight into the Leviathan's face, only for @Kamala Graham to switch places with her to save the vulnerable maniac. One would think he'd be used to their haphazard decisions by now. One would be wrong.

"Someone take the oar!"

He screamed at everyone and no one before grabbing his unnecessarily massive greatsword and stepping in front of Kamala, holding the weapon out in front of him so that the embedded focus faced the Leviathan. His mind raced before him as he tried to make sense of who to protect. In the end, he chose to protect their healer and the woman she would most likely risk herself to keep safe once more. @Kirius was manning their vessel, Ulfr had @Charlotte Ann Marie, and @Erick Stryker seemed like he was the least affected of the Leviathan's earlier attacks. Well, second least affected.

Chrys manifested his Thousand Sparkling Gold through his Auric Geomancy, willing jagged shards of the earth to rise in the air and float in front of him before hurling them all at the massive monstrosity in front of them as hard as he could. When what remained of the shards from the impact became darker grains of sand, he willed those, too, to float around Ayna and Kamala, his dumb teenage daughters, boosting their defense. He clenched his jaw, discreetly burdened by the amount of control and energy the skill required.

❰ Thousand Sparkling Gold: Armillary Sphere Wall ❱

Now let's up the ante by mocking this ugly mofo! Chrys followed that up by imposing a taunting aura, using his Auric Geomancy through Thousand Sparkling Gold to attract the Leviathan's by manifesting a raging bull demon that only it could see. Through the visage, Chrys screamed an insult right at it.

"Your mother was a trout, and your father smelt of algae!"

In her half-dazed state, the fox simply did not notice the gathering of gold in the skies and what it resulted in. Though she got wide awake when she was so suddenly grabbed and tossed back by the big bear man.

"The hell- since when can undersea creatures call down lightning?!"

Or was it nature itself taking the creature's side? She had no idea at this point, but before she could gather herself, or even feel any pain with her adrenaline slowly lowering after the shock, she would start slipping. With a wet body, tossed aside onto a floor made out of slimy scales, it was somewhat natural that keeping one's balance was rather difficult. Before she could even blink, she was falling back into the icy water, this dance of freezing and heat doing wonders to her body.

Skin blue from exposure, it emerged from the water, fingers darkening, yet gripping onto the body and pulling the rest of the small body up. "What am I, some kind of ragdoll? You'll... not... keep on... tossing me around like this!" With those thoughts, it was her own blade that she used as a tool to scale the titan again, leaving plenty of incisions behind.

Somehow, this managed to leave more damage on the leviathan than her previous attempt at an attack, though, rather exhausted, she needed a moment after she found herself on flat ground once more, flopping her body on the scales. Still, she kept her blade close, knowing to remain vigilant... for as much as her frozen body would allow, anyway.

Ayna wasn't quite sure what had happened. She was right in the Leviathan's face, stabbing and shocking the damned beast awake, and when it did, she barely dodged the lightning bolt it called forth, suffering instead the aftermath of the strike. Or at least she thought she would. But she didn't, and instead, she was back on the longboat, standing confused next to the Lantern. It took her mere seconds to realize what Kamala had done, and barely understood how she had done it, helping her back on the boat when she returned to them.

"Kamala, you good? You did something, didn't you? Thanks, but focus on the stars, all right?"

She gave her closest friend a nod and a wink, as well as a pat on the head. When she saw Chrys readying himself to take on Kamala's defense, after Kamala had once again healed others and herself, she gave him a nod, too, a token of appreciation for being their shield. And then she was gone, once more off the longship, zooming through the cold waves of the biting seas, to reach Leviathan's crown and unleash another barrage of lightning-charged thrusts in defiance of the massive beast of the frozen deep. I'm coming, enemy of basseals everywhere! They shall be avenged!

❰ Appearance of Calamity ❱

As she tried to take down the beast on her own, she continued yelling at it like, well, a maniac. Or a really pissed-off mom. She was really feeling the whole Viking thing. When else would she get the opportunity to play the role of Beowulf? Or more appropriately, bae-wulf?

The raven-haired boy nodded affirmatively at @Kamala Graham when she wrapped him with the pleasant verdant shield, reducing the damage the tendrils were inflicting on him. The shadow stretched from his cloak and dealt with the rest.

When @Chrys called for support, Kirius kept his end of the bargain even if it did not involve harm to the older man, and appeared where the rows of oars were. He wasn't alone, but it seemed like the rest of the oarmen were losing in the tug-of-war against the wrathful waves that continued to push them back on every inch they gain.

So, who was better to assist them than the Shadow Lord himself. After drawing the chilly air into his lungs, Kirius' cape blended with the shadow to create a massive pair of arms that each stretched to take hold of an oar on either side of the ship before he called out to the rest of the oarmen so they could synchronize.

"Forward! Weigh! Way! Weigh! Way! Weigh! Way!"

The rowers all came together and began pushing against the tidal waves, tunneling forward through the spiteful water and would have broken into the next stretch had it not been for the oars snapping from the shadow's shear physical strength.

Kirius had the shadowy hands hold the snapped oars in front of him, his face in utter disbelief.

"Hahaha... the gods must think that this is a divine comedy. To think that the shadow is too powerful for these man-forged instruments. What a farce."

Kirius shouted out to the rest of his party elsewhere.

"Brace yourselves for impact. The Sea Witch is out for blood this day!"

Snowbreak Against Lamenting Waves
Cycle 3

Oh how they fought!

Forwards and backwards @Kamala Graham went, the Lifeline that she grasped propelling her into the face of the storm a second time, her petite form caught in the explosion of steam. And yet, she rolled with that force still, launching herself back upon the Longship like a leaf caught in a storm. @Erick Stryker caught her before she could smash headfirst into the mast, his hands grabbing at the very state of her being and forcing it to a previous iteration in order to undo the consequences of her self-effacing ways, but the Faerin didn't even allow herself a breath before she was up once more, springtime benedictions enveloping her friends. And as the tides once again rose up to swallow them whole, @Chrys rose to his own task, the Stalwart Defender unshaken by the force of the waves that crashed against his form. Around him, a spirit most bullish emanated, the very symbol of enduring strength upon the land, challenging that insurmountable titan of the sea!

And in the corona of that glorious declaration about trout and algae, @Charlotte Ann Marie gathered her strength again, the cold seeping deeper and deeper into her bones. She stoked the inner flames nonetheless, and though she could no longer feel her fingers, the beastfolk didn't need to either; her sword was frozen stuck to the palm of her hand, and all she needed to do was strike down with it! Scales bent as she slid her blade underneath, wrenching them out as she climbed further up towards the Crown of the Leviathan. @Ayna Nietzsche too, clad in seven thunders, returned once more, the brackish blood of the great beast steaming against her garments as she drove her polearm at a frenetic pace. Under the combined assault, a tangible reaction was finally teased out from the Witch's Spawn, a tremor along its entire body.

It was enough to almost flip the Longship over, the ripples of the Leviathan's discomfort. The ocean heaved and hurled, but through it all, @Kirius kept the vessel on track. Even with oars snapped, the phantasmal limbs that he projected could serve as paddles all on their own, the black hands cresting in and out of the ocean to propel the longship ever-forward!

Forward from open waters to the tangled weave of the Seaborn's thousand tentacles.

Now. Now they were within its reach.

Thunder clapped, another eruption of steam searing those who fought upon the Crown. The waves buckled and became as a sledgehammer, pummeling the guardian that stood before it all. The storm of ice and lightning wore down all warriors without mercy or focus. It was a battle of attrition against a titan of enormous mass, and slowly, gradually…it was waking up.

Steady yourselves! It's awakening!

Atop the Leviathan, Ulfr raised his axe, a sanguine gale swirling around its rune-carved steel. With blows that clanged like a war-forge, he swung it over and over against the monstrosity's eye and yet could not do so much as tear open the transparent eyelid. Another curse, another roar, and the scattered force of furious blows scattered like sparks, then found a home upon the weapons of the two Starcalled who fought upon the Crown as well. Blades of flame and lightning sparked with ever-greater energy, begging to be released, beacons of devastation!

But the Leviathan raised its head.

And those beacons, blazing so bright, were but matchsticks upon the skull of the Seaborn Titan. They truly have been only fighting upon its Crown; its head alone dwarfed the merchant galleons that were anchored at the ports.

The Sea had always been greater than the Land.

As they gazed upon that creature, in all its terrible might, Kamala and Erick could both hear it. An unnatural whisper, a siren's lament. Driving into their skulls, that undulating whine filled with such longing, such passion, that their very blood spilled out from their eyes, their nose, their ears, their mouth. Their blood, so eager to return to the ancestral land, to the saltwater abyss!

But their sanity remained, rooting them to the creaking Longship.

Was it the light of that Light-Blessed God whom the Witch wished to consume? Was it the brilliance of self-sacrifice that caused her to croon? Or was it simply that the kindling of the Lantern existed only to be swallowed by the infinite waves?

Yes.

It should drown that Light.

The Leviathan
Drowsy, but Rousing

❰ ████████ / ████████ ❱

Objectives and Mechanics
  • Every cycle that passes, the Leviathan will become more awake, and subsequently gain more Actions. On the upcoming damage phase, it will perform 5 Actions. One of these actions will always deal damage globally.
  • After the damage phase, if the Leviathan's Damage Counter has received more than 1000 HP Damage, a check will be made to determine if it will retreat or not, due to the damage it has sustained. These checks become more difficult for every time it makes one. Once it fails the check, the Leviathan retreats beyond the waves and the Starcalled are victorious.
  • The Leviathan has decided to advance rather than retreat. Damage Counter is reset to 0.

  • The Storm continues to rage, and to fight in these circumstances, one must endure the cold to the best of their capability, whether by thawing it with the Lantern's warmth or the heat of your spilled blood.
  • Stacks of [Cold] are gained at the end of every cycle, with the amount scaling with regards to how far away you are from the Lantern's Zone. A maximum of 20 stacks can be gained.
  • Every stack of [Cold] reduces the results of Offensive and Defensive Actions by 5, after multipliers.
  • If you end your turn in the Lantern's Zone, your stacks are reduced by 1d4. If you are not in the Lantern's Zone, you may use a Free Action and remove as many stacks as you wish, losing 10 HP for ever stack you remove this way.

Map
  • The Map can be found here. I will be setting up the Map at the beginning of every Cycle.
  • The Longship may be moved one Zone closer to the Leviathan if Actions are used to contribute to Progress through Mastery Checks. When Progress is at 200, the Longship moves closer by one Zone.
  • Alternatively, you may use a Bonus Action to have the Longship move as far away from the Leviathan as you wish.
  • If you choose to abandon your Longship, you may instead attempt to fulfill the Requirements of the Zone you wish to enter. On a failure, you will still enter the Zone you wish to, but will be flailing in the water, and thus roll your Action with disadvantage for the Cycle.
  • If you don't have access to Google Slides, let me knowwwww.

Cycle 2 Resolution

Cold Stacks

  • @Ayna Nietzsche @Charlotte Ann Marie receive 3 (2 + 1) Cold Stacks.
  • @Chrys @Erick Stryker @Kamala Graham receive 2 (1 + 1) Cold Stacks.
  • Others would receive Cold Stacks, but due to proximity with the Lantern or Cold Immunity, the afflictions were negated. At the start of your turn, roll a 1d4 to determine the amount of Cold Stacks the Lantern melts off if you are on the Lantern's Zone.

Adventure on the High Seas

Tyldr's Light

Let thine valor become as flame.

A blessed artifact affixed to your longship, this Lantern burns hot when ones' blood runs hot, removing the need for wood or oil to feed its light. In its presence, Frostbite fades and the might of one's arms and mind are sharpened, bolstered, and further boons are granted as the Lantern burns ever brighter.

Act with courage, and the Flames shall become as beacon.

Swear your Oath, and a God may yet witness your journey.

Boon of the Lightbringer [1458]
  • Fortune Favors the Brave: Every Offensive Action made grants a flat modifier. This modifier increases by the number of Offensive Actions made during the cycle, and is updated at the end of every cycle. For this Cycle, Offensive Actions gain a +100 flat modifier.
  • Preparations Precede Victory: Every Defensive or Offensive Action made has an increased critical range. This range increases in relation to the number of Support Actions made during the cycle, and is updated at the end of every cycle. For this Cycle, Critical Range is now at 94-100.
  • ???: Unlocked on the next tier.
Oaths of the Starcalled
@Erick Stryker The Lantern's flame persists within you as well. When not on the same zone as the Lantern, you may burn 30 HP to bathe the zone in the Lantern's light, preventing allies from getting stacks of [Cold] from environmental effects.
@Kamala Graham You are the lifeline of your friends, and if need be, you will offer yourself in their place. Immediately after the damage phase is resolved, you may swap positions with them, taking both all the damage they would have taken, as well as any negative status effects currently on them.

Sea-Faring

Brave the waves and ride the lightning.

Ilmea's Lament repels landborne intruders by nature, and one must fight both wind and waters to surpass the will of the storm. Struggle and bleed, with both muscles and masteries, in order to advance upon your foe. For it is their domain that you trespass upon, and it will do all it can to drive you back and let the elements wear you down.

Crack the oars and break your back.

Or leap to the waters and let momentum decide your fate.

Semi-Freeform

Mankind did not rise to their station through violence alone.

One may choose, at any time, to perform a Creative Action, utilizing anything to justify it, though this will be influenced by the interpretation of the DM. The DM will contact you after you post in order to make a roll. Whatever is done, it is generally safe to presume that a Creative Action will NOT do anything to directly change HP values.

Roll the dice.

Do or Die.

There was precious little he could do after restoring Kamala's health at the expense of his own safety but bear the brunt of whatever abuse the creature brought down. It chose to fix its wicked gaze on him, in some fervent effort to quash his light. Somehow, in spite of the intensity of that glare, he still found the strength to stand.

Nay, perhaps it was less that he found it and more that it never left him.

But in order to keep standing, he had to perform a feat unlike those that came before it. He had abused time to see a thousand possibilities, and he had reverted a body back to its state before the act of martyrdom; through sheer force of will, Erick had to do the unthinkable.

Around him, the world froze- not the way that the frost or the Leviathan would have him freeze, but in the sense that even the creature was bound by the laws of reality in a way that the Starcalled was not. He looked from one ally to another, certain of their fates and mindful as he walked himself backward through the river of time.

In slow motion, everything happened in the inverse. From the horrid glare to the fear he felt slipping away from him, he reverted his body to a time before he had been torn from grace. He held fast to the magical defenses that had been divested to him- at least, as best he could- as he thought he saw another being there in the light of the Lantern.

"What--?"

The brilliance of the entity was impossible to fully comprehend, but he saw a stern and unsmiling, albeit vigilant and watchful gaze looking back at him for all of an instant before lifting a finger as if to will him to keep a secret.

Saber.%28Lancelot%29.full.2245773.jpg

In the next moment, he was returned to the flow of time proper, unharmed the way he had been at the start; and more importantly, ready to stand Vigil over the boat and its crew, as Tyldr intended.

@Erick Stryker had politely reminded her to prioritize her own health and living status over anyone else in order to keep the rest of them alive, but Kamala just couldn't help herself. When @Ayna Nietzsche returned to face the mighty Leviathan from afar, right in its face, she just couldn't let her sacrifice herself for the rest of them. That was her cue, and as soon as she could, she played the lifeline once more, offering herself in Ayna's place, swapping positions with her, and suffering the consequences for her decision. Gah... This... This is too much... But I must hold on.

It seemed that Tyldr and Gwyndolainn might have agreed with her, allowing her to return to the longboat without much difficulty. As Kamala heaved and panted, the sight of a safe Ayna made her smile albeit weakly. Once more, she beseeched the aid of the gods, and Gwyndolainn welcomed her and two others, @Chrys and @Kirius, into his garden, his sanctuary. Was it truly Gwyndolainn, though? Or was it simply her magic bolstered by her faith?

❰ Heart's Illusion ❱

With the healing, she hoped to wash away the coldness her friends were feeling, though her weakened state implied even to her that it would not be as potent as she'd hoped. Still, she persisted, praying hard for the gods to let them live, let them survive. Theirs was a noble purpose, and with the gods' aid and guidance, they could be their instruments for miracles on such a season. Or at least some semblance of entertainment. Please, please, don't let anyone die...

When he saw @Ayna Nietzsche rush toward the titan of the sea once more, Chrys immediately turned to @Kamala Graham. He gulped, knowing that she was most likely switching places with her friend again, most likely the last time. He wasn't sure if it would be the noblest thing he'd ever see or the stupidest. @Erick Stryker had a great point. Would she ignore the rest of them for one person?

"Kamala... Don't!"

What the fucking fuck? Chrys' brain could not find more suitable words to describe the furious waves that tried to push him over and drag him down to the depths of the watery abyss. They were unnatural. Or at least weren't anything that the man of the mountains have naturally faced before. If these conditions were normal to these people, then Chrys was glad he wasn't one of them.

The Leviathan's attacks were strong, and as the strongest of their party, he was the authority on strength. Or at least he believed that. Truth was, Chrys was only physically strong. He wasn't as mentally strong as Kamala or even Erick most likely. Power, being powerful, was a whole different thing.

We can't keep this up. If it hits us with more shit again... Chrys clenched his jaw when Kamala returned. He could get angry at her for risking herself like that, and them as well because she was after all the designated healer, but the way she was, he was only able to heave a sigh of disappointment, mostly at himself, and relief, mostly that she was still alive. Gotta keep her safe then... So she can help more people. Please help more people.

❰ Thousand Sparkling Gold: Armillary Sphere Screen ❱

He tried his best to use his Thousand Sparkling Gold effectively, chucking rocks at the beast and providing a shield of sorts to Kamala as she did her thing, but the Leviathan's intimidating presence wasn't a walk in the park, so his output was barely efficient. Fortunately for him, he was too hot to be cold, and so like that one princess, the cold didn't bother him anyway. Thank the gods or my balls would be freezing by now! He thought to himself, referring to his balls of rocks that comprised his Thousand Sparkling Gold through his Auric Geomancy. If you thought about anything else, that's your problem.

Chrys, of course, decided to shield his two daughters but decided to shield someone else this time instead of himself. He wasn't sure if it was because of Kamala selflessly chucking herself at the titan of the sea to protect another, but he was sure he'd shield @Kirius for doing so damn well on the oars. Erick looked like he could handle himself anyway and he hasn't seen if Kirius could do the same. He wasn't taking any chances.

Even if she was able to finally make a dent, avoid the lightning, generally help in some way... there was just no way to keep it up. The frost on her skin was accumulating and even if her attacks sometimes landed on the mightier side, they just weren't as effective as a result. Readying herself in a defensive stance, Charlotte made the decision of tactical retreat, at least a small one. Though the way down from the Leviathan was... tricky.

But, in a strange way, its massive body and numerous appendages were of help here, allowing her to slide down, hop from one to the other... until the beast roused from its sleep some and the appendage she was on at the time flinging her through the air.

"Wha-"

What was meant to be a quick retreat turned into a flight that overshot even the ship itself, landing the girl in the water behind it.

+15 to next Save Roll from @Chrys' Savior

If Ayna had time to linger on the Leviathan's fluids showering her clothes, she would've probably spent a few seconds vomiting at how disgusting that was. Or at least most would think she would. Ayna had been spending too much time sailing through the Lament that fish guts no longer fazed her. If anything, those were a part of her game time now. It wasn't like she didn't have any experience with them in the real world.

Like before, @Kamala Graham switched places with Ayna, who had just closed her eyes and was readying herself to accept the Leviathan's revenge. She squinted before turning to @Chrys in front of her and mumbling something about keeping Kamala on the boat once she returned. Through any means necessary. Her worst fears were made to come true when she saw how much their healer was shivering from head to toe. Still, Ayna mustered enough courage to smile, as she made her friend promise to leave her be this time around.

"Kamala... I'll be fine. Make sure you and the others stay alive, all right? I'll return on my own once I'm done."

There was a method to Ayna's madness, and as she rushed back toward the king of the frozen abyss, she reminded herself that she was their party's main damage dealer. Thus, she had to deal as much damage to the creature as she could. Charging her blade with as much lightning as she could, she struck the Leviathan as hard as she could, trying to penetrate its flesh with steel and storm. And again. She screamed as lightning flashed but no words came out of her mouth.

Even after Kirius' shadow broke the oars, the united oarmen rowed as one.

"Weigh! Way! Weigh! Way! Weigh! Way!"

Together, their fervor pushed them toward the colossus in the raging storm.

"Keep rolling, you are under the protection of the great shadow, do not let the threat of death stall your oar. FORWARD!" he shouted.

They do not have the time to be pushed back by the violent waves now. Do or die. Some among his crew took this to heart, considering how @Ayna Nietzsche and @Kamala Graham were actively offering themselves to the sea witch. @Charlotte Ann Marie took charge in dying, however, considering how she practically flew over the ship in her retreat.

He extended his shadow in an attempt to stop her overshot. Alas, the pirate was as fast as a hungry seagull swooping down to steal someone's herring.

He had to think fast. They practically had no defence outside of @Chrys, who decided to cover him with his aura.

"Rockman, protect the elf and the pirate. Stats! The waking Leviathian will feast on their flesh," he called out.

With his blades drawn, he had to pick up the offensive to give the rest of the people under his sworn shadow a brief respite.

Stepping forward, the youth broke into a dash to the front of the ship as red energy began to circulate about his body, just before the special attack went off, he shouted at @Erick Stryker to move out of the way briefly before the energy burst forth. All it took was a single sword swing for Kirius to harness all of that dark magic and redirect it to the great beast.

Among the rowers in the ship, there was actually Lune, hooded and hidden as she witnessed the battle roaring. Her only goal in blending in here was only to learn about this Leviathan and whether there's something to be utilized from it. Its power? Tempting.

But something that was more interesting was Tyldr's Light. It was no secret that she's on the hunt for many magical, even godly artifacts.

But let's deal with that later, since suddenly the hunting party was in big trouble, and people began to dash to their own death. As soon as @Kirius jumped into the front of the ship and unleashed a massive energy slash toward the sea beast, the woman stood up sighing. Every time she tried to stay away from combat, she still got pulled in regardless.

"Idiot, with an attack like that, you're the one in dire need of protection," She muttered, still hiding under her hooded cloak.

Lune stood up, before letting out a melody that reverberated across the ocean, akin to a siren's song. A gravity field slowly formed, enveloping the ship itself in a bubble of magnetic force to ward back any retaliation from the Leviathan. The circular gravity dome was big enough to encompass the waters around them, offering protection to the party.

Snowbreak Against Lamenting Waves
Cycle 4

Their struggle upon the waves continued, and yet, their strength waned with every effort. Lantern-light and verdant breeze chased away the worst of the chill and, as if sensing the danger that they were all in, their efforts redoubled!

Graced by benediction or delusion, @Erick Stryker found himself in one piece again, if only for the briefest moments before the storm tore at his restored form once more. He would bleed, but he had blood to spare. @Kamala Graham's desperation too intensified with each blow, the Faerin catapulting forwards with her Lifeline once more, receiving agony twicefold for her friend. How much more could she afford to suffer? How much longer could she delay the inevitable for? The Longship rocked beneath her, and @Chrys rocked before her, a golden screen ensconcing her form from the worst of the storm. He couldn't take any chances, not when Kamala alone had done the majority of the healing in this fight, not when she was the only reason why his other daughter was still in one piece.

The only reason why @Ayna Nietzsche could push herself into the fray once again.

Lightning danced upon her beloved blade, amethyst light crackling against the blue bolts that cracked above. A voiceless scream ripped out into the vacuum of her own charge, and she sank her blade deeper than ever before! And this time, this time the Leviathan noticed it. Noticed the wasp that had stung it so many times before, noticed the fleet-footed thing that always seemed to escape harm one way or the other.

It was by luck that @Charlotte Ann Marie had been flicked away by an appendage. As she flew back, slamming against a few more appendages and barely missing the Longship, only to freeze herself a platform upon the waves, she had the widest view of it all, and thus, could see everything about to occur.

The Leviathan opened its mouth. Closed it. And the amethyst brilliance that had once danced so fearlessly upon its Crown was swallowed whole.

It was a blessing that she had not been swallowed alongside that brilliance.

And aboard the Longship, the Shadow released crimson waves of energy from his sword, a frenzied torrent of might to drive back what came at him so furiously. They were in the thick of it now, and with the rowers told to pause, the hundreds of tentacles that swarmed around them found an easy target. Lightning crackled, static, upon each of the curled tentacle, before thunderous judgement was delivered upon the Starcalled. In that critical moment, still feeling the backlash of his DARK HOWLING BLADESWRATH, @Kirius's reflexes failed him!

But @Lune, hidden all this while, discarded her disguise, redirecting the electric discharge before it could fry the swordsman completely. They were all injured, yes, but they were all alive still. And with a fresh tank present, there were suddenly many mo-

Tentacles wrapped around the Longship.

They had been played!

Lightning blinded them to the truth: the true target of the Leviathan was the ship all along!

And whether the Starcalled grasped tight upon lashings or mast, whether they leapt off before they could be drawn into the deaths, the Seaborn pulled their vessel into the freezing depths beneath, and with it, the Lantern's light.

Deeper, deeper, deeper.

Until the abyss swallowed the Lightbringer's boons, leaving nothing but a riotous storm and an insatiable foe.

Now, the ultimate test.

How would they break?

The Leviathan
Awake.

❰ ████████ / ████████ ❱

Objectives and Mechanics
  • Every cycle that passes, the Leviathan will become more awake, and subsequently gain more Actions. On the upcoming damage phase, it will become Enraged and perform 5 Actions.

Cycle 3 Resolution

Damage Taken
  • Stormcall: @Lune receives 60 (30 x 2) HP Damage, due to their Vulnerability. @Erick Stryker @Chrys @Ayna Nietzsche @Kirius receive 30 HP Damage. @Kamala Graham receives 15 (30 / 2) HP Damage. @Charlotte Ann Marie receives 5 (30 / 2 - 10) HP Damage.
  • Thunderzone: @Erick Stryker @Chrys @Kirius receive 25 HP Damage, while @Kamala Graham receives 12 (25 / 2) HP Damage. and @Lune receives 50 (25 x 2) HP Damage. Of them all, Kirius failed to dodge the full might of the electrical discharge, and receives an additional 25 HP Damage.
  • Abyssal Grasp: The Longship is dragged into the depths below, and the Boons of the Lightbringer are subsequently suppressed. If you wish to access the Boons of the Lightbringer, you must dive down with the ship on Zone 3, rolling your action with disadvantage.
  • Consume: @Ayna Nietzsche has been swallowed whole by the Leviathan. Her Movement is reduced to zero, she cannot be targeted by any Support or Defensive Actions, Bonus Actions, or Passives, and if the Leviathan is not driven away by the end of the cycle, she will receive 5d50 HP Damage during the damage phase.
  • Yawn: The Leviathan takes in a breath and gather its strength.

Boon of the Lightbringer [3008]
  • Fortune Favors the Brave: Every Offensive Action made grants a flat modifier. This modifier increases by the number of Offensive Actions made during the cycle, and is updated at the end of every cycle. For this Cycle, Offensive Actions gain a +150 flat modifier.
  • Preparations Precede Victory: Every Defensive or Offensive Action made has an increased critical range. This range increases in relation to the number of Support Actions made during the cycle, and is updated at the end of every cycle. For this Cycle, Critical Range is now at 90-100.
  • A Might That Befits the Mantle: Every Action made confers an additional benefit depending on its classification (Support, Defensive, Offensive), scaling off of the current Boon of the Lightbringer value. For this Cycle, Support Actions confer either a +30 or a +90 extra modifier to the target/s, depending on whether it's single target or AOE. Defensive Actions grant one instance of 30 or 60 damage reduction, depending on whether it's a standard or special action. Offensive Actions grant a 30d10 flat damage modifier to your attack.

Do or Die.

Focusing on maintaining gravity barriers around the ship, and especially on @Kirius, Lune did not realize that a few tentacles already sneaked close, delivering an electric shock from behind that would've fried even the strongest beasts.

"Fuck."

Her concentration broke, allowing the other tentacles to quickly wrap around the longship, pulling it down into the depths of the sea leaving all of the people exposed on the surface of the cold sea.

"Oh no, you don't!"

Managing to stay afloat above the waters with the help of her arcanamancy, the steel songstress used her gravitational grip to contest the longship currently being dragged down to the abyss, fighting the force of the tentacles to bring the ship back to the surface. Burning every magic available inside her body with a melodic hum, she harnessed the power of gravity in her hands, both of them trying to free the sank longship with a lifting motion.

The longship stopped under the water, but both of Lune's arms were already shaking, unable to maintain the tug-of-war any longer.

"A little... bit more!"

They needed the light if they want to survive this.

The Leviathan represented hopelessness.

With each passing turn of the clock, it plunged them deeper into despair. Whether it sought their lives or their light, it took and took with reckless abandon. At the rate things were proceeding, it would have all of it regardless.

Others were throwing themselves at the enemy ad nauseum, to varying effect. Some saw recognition of pain flash in the creature's eye while others were rebuffed and tossed into the waves like flotsam. It was then that the creature swallowed whole one of the Starcalled, and from the depths, its hideous appendages tore up, and-

The waters crashed around them, throwing chunks of wood, Lander, and Starcalled alike airborne as it greedily, desperately dragged the beacon down. As predicted, it had been their guiding light, and so, the darkness it pierced had been targeting it all along. What the others did not know, and perhaps, what the Leviathan did not, was that the light was a blessing from a god- a physical manifestation of grace.

Being deprived of it did not necessarily mean being robbed of that grace. Not when Erick had seen what he had only moments before. "I made my promise, little light," he said grimly as he drew the warmth into himself, "that your fate would be my fate, regardless of what that meant. And your purpose doesn't simply fade into the darkness with you. I hold your promise fulfilled, and now, I'll keep mine."

Erick took a deep breath, a harsh, cold, blistery breath that filled his lungs with no comfort. Lacking the light of the lantern, he was exposed to the raw harshness of the Lament. But oxygen fed flame, and Erick was flesh only for the first moment. "Are you watching still, god?" he asked in a quiet voice. "Do you hear my words? If you can, then..."

Gilded light ignited around his flesh, burning away the chill, burning away pain, burning away life.

In its place, a form suited for higher purpose.

"I vowed to you that I would burn as your flame burnt. Now take this body as my offering," he said, "use my hands as your own. My voice as yours. Burn this body to ash and make for them a miracle in this, their darkest hour."

Snowbreak Against Lamenting Waves
Cycle 4.5

They needed the light if they want to survive this.

And so, she fought against a pull that surpassed gravity tenfold. Jackie's ropes had secured the Lantern tightly to the Longship, and the sheer mass of the Levianthan's appendages were impossible to beat out in a contest of strength alone, but that simply meant she had to do something else.

The bones in her arms creaked, gravitational backlash causing microfractures to spiderweb out of her humerus and radius, a patchwork tapestry of bruises forming from the stress, but adrenaline and cold numbed the senses, and though Lune would break in time, the Longship would break now!

Wood warped, bent, and the Lantern was broken free from the ship it had been bound to. It catapulted up to the surface, the flame of valor bathing them all in its crimson glory!

Burn this body to ash and make for them a miracle in this, their darkest hour.

The Blade of Hope made his offering and in return...

...felt the burning sting of Divine Reprimand, searing down his arm like the branches of a tree.

Tyldr was the Lightbringer. The bearer of the Sunsword. The one who stood by the side of every hero that sought to conquer Chaos and Darkness.

He was not that wretched being who dealt in blood and drama, in evolution and desperation.

Indeed.

It was the way of man to hold life as valuable, but it was the way of the gods to hold action as valuable.

So act, and secure your future with the self you wish to be.

Mid-Cycle Update

The Boons of the Lightbringer are active once more, for all on the field, but the Longship itself is still destroyed, so either Movement Requirements or Reflex Saves must be made in order to act in whichever Zone you are in.

@Erick Stryker has his Turn and his Armor Ability (Surge) refreshed. As well, for this Cycle, he can choose any combination of Action and Bonus Action he wishes, and can consider his WR, MR, and AR to be at S-Rank.

The pain that blossomed in his body was not the stuff of accepted sacrifice. He felt none of the sensations that ought come with death, and instead, it was as though he were being rebuked. Tyldr didn't want his life; he wanted Erick to do something himself.

The Light he had woven around himself was indeed the stuff of gods, but rather than consuming him, the god imparted the full power of that light to the Starcalled. So Erick took up the mantle all too willingly, feeling no small amount of relief that the god did not barter in blood.

But more than relief, he was set entirely at ease. Any fear that lingered in his bones was burned away, absolved in cleansing flame. The radiance that he now embodied bathed the rest of the battlefield, blinding to the abhorrent dark, a constant and powerful guide to those who would follow him.

In his hands rested the power of a god, granted. It could take any form, in truth, but there was only one form that honored the deity that he had invoked. In the beginning, he was able only to stoke those flames and keep them alive. In this moment, he was able to draw forth a weapon that under all other circumstances remained far beyond his kin, if only a fleeting image of it.

Erick's hands gripped the air tightly for a moment, and in his hands formed the hilt of a radiant golden blade. Forth from his body surged the heat of the Sun itself, manifesting the blade of his weapon, a reflection of the Sunsword itself.

The heat that had branched through his body, burning him, was but a small amount of impossible power, and though it was pain, it was not horrid. It was holy fire, it was purifying, and as it moved out from him it was like a breath of relief whispered across the frigid Lament.

"My name is Erick," he spoke, whether to god or man or beast, none could tell, "and on my honor, I will carry the light!"

And the heat of the Blazing Sun bore down on the Leviathan.
