It was still alien for the Landers the idea of 'christmas'. Of course, just explaining the concept to them would've been troublesome, so it was swiftly decided it would be conveniently called 'wintersday', and the more mundane and cultural aspects of it would be adjusted accordingly to fit the narrative of the virtual world.

With that in mind, Hanno took the liberty, similarly to other players, to step into more remote areas of Terrasphere, that had nearly zero contact with the Starcalled culture. The first choice that crossed his mind was Zalra, with the crystal nomads, a fellow faerin perhaps would've been the most comfortable approach.

After delivering a few gifts, a particularly joyful girl beamed in excitement, deciding to, as a proof of gratitude, show Hanno around.

By consequence, she even dared to drag @Lucille Fer along, that similarly happened to be around, either helping with the gifting, or simply adventuring through the crystal lands.

"Here, here! I'm telling you, this place is awesome!" The faerin kid giggled, fluttering her mana wings as she rushed forward, jumping and gliding across the crystal obstacles.

Hanno chuckled. "Hey, calm down!" He said, shaking his head, then peeking at the beastfolk next to him. "... I thought the nomads were a bit more cautious, but I guess they are so used to the curse that they meddle with those things as if it was nothing." Hanno shrugged.

At long last, civilization! How long has it been..? Years? Decades?! Actually, it was about two months, give or take... she still had a calendar and a phone in the real world. Either way, the Black Wolf originally got lost in Providence, then made her way to Redchron where she spent most of the time... and now she was here. All the way, she somehow managed to completely evade any and all Starcalled. Was it luck or a curse? She was basically a changed woman at this point... at least a tiny bit.

When she spotted the nomadic tribe and approached, she expected reluctance, maybe even a fight. But apparently, they were trying to celebrate Christmas just like in the outside world! Only they called it Wintersday for some reason. What blasphemy. Before the girl could even blink twice, she was already being dragged somewhere by a little girl and a... equally little knight? She looked at Hanno as they walked.

"Huh? What curse..?"

She stopped briefly and shook the black coat that hung over her body, numerous prismal crystals falling off and clanging against the ground. The girl's clothes were almost coated with the tiny things, as if she was not afraid of what they could do to her at all. Heck, her only protection appeared to be a fairly thin cloak of black color that she wore over clothes that one would expect from a desert-dweller!

"Er, 'nyway, what is this place? I thought I was finally going to Falderen, did I miss it..?"

Hanno glanced Lucille when she questioned about the curse, and he immediately replied: "Zalrisis. It is a curse that spread across your body and crystalizes you to death... It is pretty much what makes this whole place all crystalized." He explained, gesturing to his surroundings to show the endless crystals that covered every inch of ground and wall.

"You can catch it by wounding yourself, or by contact, and..." Hanno frowned, looking her up and down. "Uhm... Aren't you feeling cold, buddy? You should probably at least get some protection while meddling near these crystals." He said, concerned about the beast folk.

"Falderen? That place is boring!" The faerin kid stuck out her tongue. "What I will show you, can't be found on Falderen, or anywhere else." A devilish grin grew on the kid's lips, and she hurried her steps.

As the group was guided past the brief valley, they reached an open area, crystalized as usual... Except that in this area, something intriguing appeared.

A draconic figure or at least your everyday fantasy nerd would call it a dragon, or a wyvern at least. The creature was crystalized, but so smoothly that it looked more like a sculpture than an actual being that had fallen to the curse of Zalra. The sight was indeed impressive, yet, intriguing. Why it was there?

"Crystalize to death? These little things? That doesn't seem right."

Stepping forward, it was so easy to crush the numerous crystals beneath her boots, it was hard to imagine something like this actually injuring her. Although she had to admit that it made this whole place look quite nice. Shame that the snow covered many of the crystals. But perhaps it was exactly because of that that the remaining ones shined and sparkled all the more.

"Cold, pff. This ain't nothing! The heat in that Redchrom or whatnot place was waaaay worse! But you look like you should bundle up a bit more, haha!"

Given how animated Lucille was when she talked, it was hard to not notice what might have kept her so warm. While light in clothes, all four of her limbs were covered in a jet-black fur. Even around her neck, there was a collar of warm-looking fur, and her hair was a long, thick mane reaching all the way down to her lower back. Something like that was sure to keep her warm, at least partially.

When the kid(?) led them to what the beastfolk presumed to be an ice statue, her eyes widened and glistened with excitement. She recognized the shape pretty much right away, causing her to hasten in her tempo until she got even closer.

"What is that?! Is that an actual dragon..? I thought those didn't exist in here! Or at least that's what everyone kept saying... hey, is that a dragon?!"

She kept switching her attention between the iced being and Hanno, her excitement rather obvious as she pointed up at the thing with a giant grin on her face.

"That doesn't seem right, but it is what it is, buddy. So be careful." Hanno gave another warning, blinking surprised at the way she underestimated the crystal curse. That wasn't going to end well, if it continued to take that path, but Hanno wasn't going to meddle too much, at least not for now.

"Heh. I'm fine the way I am." His mana wings fluttered, pausing for a moment to analyze the surroundings, and the giant frozen dragon, something that caught his attention, especially considering... Exactly what Lucille had just spoken of.

"As far as I know, there are no dragons around here." Hanno frowned. "But that doesn't look like it is alive... At all." He crossed his arms.

"Maybe it is just an sculpture?"

"Dragon? Sculpture?" The girl turned at the two Starcalled, looking at them with a puzzled expression.

"I'm not sure what a Dragon is. But this isn't just a sculpture. It has a heart, and it beats!" She smirked, pointing at the crystalized creature, particularly at the center of its chest, where something seemed to glow from inside.

The girl's comments certainly sparked a certain kind of interest in Lucille. And while there were many pressing questions, primarily around what the fae through the thing actually was, if not a dragon... or maybe how it got here, when, or whether it was in any way dangerous... the black wolf had only one thing on mind right now.

"A heart? Can I eat it to devour its power and add it to my own?!"

She even leaned toward the small fae girl, truly looking as if she was a kid herself, eager to open up her Christmas present and find the most wonderful of things inside. She was about ready to start climbing the ice to get to the ice sculpture/living ice dragon as soon as possible, but she wanted to know if that would even be worthwhile beforehand. But just in case, she did turn around to face Hanno.

"Hey, I'm calling dibs on that heart first! You ain't gonna be eating it before me if it does give super powers, okay?!"

As expected, the lander didn't seem to know the concept of dragons. Especially if they were isolated from Travellers, who would at least pass it down as some sort of myth.

The mention of a heart does catch Hanno's attention, but before he could say anything about it, Lucille's desires made him pause and blink, turning to look at her and chuckling. "Hell. And people say Faerins always want to eat weird things." Hanno smirked.

"So you believe in eating to acquire someone's strength? That's an old belief, and strategy to become stronger, but..." Hanno shrugged. "You can have the heart. I don't really want to eat it. I only need to eat these exoctic meats about once per month." He explained.

"I would eat it though." Hanno's shield rumbled on his back, and Hanno rolled his eyes.

"Not now, Ghast." He retorted.

"Eat the heart?! I think you can, but then there will be nothing left for me. So it is unfair, no one should eat it!" The girl protested, huffing and turning toward the sculpture, gesturing for the two of them to follow.

"Come here, we can look at it closer..."

After those words, the small faerin guided them up close to the draconic sculpture, helping them if they needed to get past any slippery area, and finally tapping the brimming surface of the sculpture.

Deep inside, the two of them would manage to see something beating... It seemed partially organic but partially crystalized as well. As it beat, anyone that was touching the sculpture would feel something pulsating very slightly...

"Not JUST eating, but eating the heart specifically! Everyone knows that is how you get power, right?"

Stretching her hands and cracking her knuckles, the dark beastfolk was just about ready to start moving toward the ice 'sculpture' when the fae child spoke up again, firmly denying that notion.

"Wha- what'cha mean there'll be nothing left for you? What about the exterior?"

The whole thing looked rather nice, so surely that was all that mattered to these kinds of people, right? If it wasn't about power, then it surely was about aesthetics! Lucille knew that, of course. She had both the power AND the aesthetics on her side, after all!

"Ah, I get it! You want to prove yourself, huh? Challenge me to a duel so that the victor can claim the heart and attain the power of mighty dragons! Hehe, I knew there was somethin' to you, kid!"

As she spoke, Lucille started hopping on the spot, trying to showcase her footwork while punching the air a few times. Though her actual fighting style usually involved a lot more of her claws swiping than proper punches.

"And you don't even want to try for it? Hmph, the more for the rest, it's fine~!"

She also shot a bit of a taunt toward Hanno with a wink.

"The exterior isn't as tasty as the heart." She rolled her eyes, trying to mock the girl as if it was obvious.

Hanno gave the kid a strong ruffle on her hair, as a retaliation for her words to the woman. "Respect your elders, kiddo." He chuckled playfully, bringing a pout to the girl's face that crossed her arms and averted her face and body.

Shrugging slightly, Hanno looked at Lucille, raising an eyebrow at her taunt and turning to face her. "Are you trying to duel me?" He questioned, smirking.

"I wasn't interested in the heart, but since you insist..." He cracked his shoulders, gently putting away the shield that was on his back next to the 'dragon' sculpture. "But you better make sure you won't regret it, because I won't hold back on you." Hanno winked back, huffing with a smirk and bracing himself for the woman's reaction.

Lucille could only smirk.

"What else does it look like? You'll be the one to regret this, muhaha!"

The two of them were clearly ready for this. Hopefully, the child faerin would not steal the heart while Lucille and Hanno were busy, but... there was no time to babysit! With the shield laid to the side, it was time to show Hanno exactly what the beastfolk was made of! The mighty wolf of darkness would bear her fangs! Gathering dark magic in her hand, she punched the ground to make snow fly into the air, creating a fine white mist to blind anyone around! Once it cleared out, the woman was nowhere to be found. She had made her way to Hanno's blind spot, already into her motion, far too late to be stopped! Even her golden eyes glowed with power.

"Take this - the mightiest of attacks!"

Her hand was nearly done with the swing - and then it happened. The snowball left her palm and was directed right at Hanno, surely to hit him! No matter his power, she would emerge victorious from this truly legendary snowball fight; he stood no chance against her pure might and skill~!

Hanno braced himself when Lucille charged up a dark spell, frowning at the incoming attack that turned out to be a mere distraction, raising snow and dust all high up to his eyes, trying to blind him as he shielded his face.

When she suddenly appeared to throw a snowball, what saved him from eating the snow was the fact his hand was already shielding his eyes, allowing him to quickly parry the snowball with his forearm. "So that's how it is?!" He smirked, sinking a hand into snow and pulling out a snowball himself, twirling to hurl it at Lucille's direction.

"Take this!"

He laughed, before suddenly being struck by an unexpected snowball. "Guh- wh-what?!" He frowned, turning to look at the culprit.

"You, Starcalled, have no knowledge of the true art of snowball war!" She giggled mischievously, having two snowballs at each hand, despite being even smaller than Hanno.

"I will show you, auntie, uncle!" She declared war.

Even if her snowball didn't hit directly, it was still a hit! Not to mention that the child had joined in as well.

"So you've decided that your hungry must be sated by the heart as well then, huhu... very well! I will conquer you BOTH! Muhuhu... hahahaha!"

With the maniacal laughter, sparks of dark magic coursed through Lucille's fur before she buried her hands in the snow below her. What she pulled out was something that could be only described as a giant snow cannonball, perhaps even fit to be the base of a snowman's body. Yes, a snowball to conquer all snowballs!

Leaping high into the air, she practically dunked the pile of snow on the child before landing behind her with a tactical roll and a nod of satisfaction upon a successful landing.

"You may be local, but it is apparent you lack life's experience... especially by calling me 'auntie'. It might just be your heart that I will devour next if you keep that up!"

The unfortunate part of her speech was that she left herself wide open for Hanno.

"Conquer both? You won't- Wait! Aaaaaah!" The girl screamed, throwing the two snowballs she had at hands against the giant snowball, that clashed and bursted into pieces before the giant snowball inevitably engulfed the girl.

The pile of snow remained on the spot as Lucille released her speech, and Hanno, after a moment of surprise due to the sheer size of the snowball being thrown.

Surely the beastfolk girl was taking it quite far, which meant Hanno needed to step it up and show her a bit more of fierceness.

Hanno picked up a pile of snow around an arm, using the free hand to quickly make balls and throw toward Lucille, one after another and in high speed, almost similarly to the typicall baseball throwing machine- Except it was a faerin.

"Come on, come on! You can handle it, can't you?" He asked, trying to not give an opening for the other to recover yet.

That familiar competitive glint in her eyes was present again, the beast turned to peer over her shoulder at the one who taunted her! That said...

"That technique... huhu, you're not too bad yourself-!"

Sprinting to the side in order to avoid the snowballs, Lucille started quickly picking up piles from beneath her as well. Her body was well trained in the martial arts; this was but another duel of body and mind! What did it matter if they were using bare fists, nunchucks, or snowballs?! It was all the same!!

"Take this! Secret technique - Machinegun snowballs!"

Suddenly stopping herself, she started throwing her own snowballs at an overwhelming speed. In fact... many of their snowballs collided mid-way, creating a wall of snow powder as the individual projectiles got shattered against each other. A high-speed duel of epic proportions between two masters, would they go on until one of them got tired, or would one fated snowball make it past the event horizon and strike true?!?

Hanno gritted his teeth, letting out a laughter at Lucille's sudden rage of attacks, that prompted him to retaliate as hard as he could, throwing snowballs one after another, hoping to try and bring the woman down in their snowball duel.

"I won't go down so easily!" He exclaimed, fiercily throwing a snowball after another.

Meanwhile, the faerin kid slipped out of the snow pile, hopping back to the ground while holding an armful of snowballs.

"It is my turn now!" The girl declared, ready to throw snowballs--

However...

As soon as she stepped on the floor, three runes, one beneath each of the trio brimmed under the layer of snow, spreading its mana lines across the whole area until it connected to the crystalized statue.

For a moment, the structure quivered, with wings spreading while its 'heart' pulsated stronger, making the statue gain some consciousness. Glaring intently at the girl and fluttering its wings before suddenly charging at her.

Hanno could barely react, and the Crystal Drake already had the girl captured, suddenly frozen inside of its crystalized body.

After creating such a horrifying sight, it entered in combat stance, ready to take down the other two invaders.

Crystal Drake

❰ 400 / 400 ❱
❰ 1200 / 1200 ❱

Combat

The Crystal Drake randomly does two of the following actions per Cycle:

1 - Spikes Volley. The Crystal Drake throws a volley of crystal projectiles, hitting all players in the field that aren't under Protected status and dealing 2d20 magical damage. They must make a DC 80 Fortitude Save to halve the damage and avoid gaining one stack of Zalrisis.

2 - Tail Sweep. The Crystal Drake tail sweeps, hitting all players that didn't attack using an Extension Passive or Bonus action, dealing 2d20 physical damage. They must make a DC 80 Reflex Save to halve the damage and avoid falling on the ground. While falling, they must use a Bonus Action to stand back up, or receive +20 damage from the Crystal Drake's attacks due to the disadvantageous position.

3 - Sleeping Breath. The Crystal Drake releases a sedating breath, hitting all players on the field, unless they have immunity to magical sleep, dealing 2d20 magical damage. They must make a DC 80 Will Save to halve the damage and avoid falling asleep for a cycle, not managing to do any action.

4 - Fierce Horn. The Crystal Drake charges at a singular target, dealing 5d20 physical damage, automatically applying one stack of Zalrisis.

5 - Gritting Fangs. The Crystal Drake bites a singular target, dealing 3d20 physical damage, automatically applying one stack of Zalrisis, and forcing them to make a DC 100 Fortitude Save to avoid becoming grappled by the fangs. While grappled, the player has -40 on their rolls. The player or one of their allies may make a Fortitude Save as a bonus action to try and free them. If the Crystal Drake rolls this action again while still having someone grappled, they target the grappled player and deal 6d20 physical damage instead.

6 - Glowing Heart. The Crystal Drake's heart brims eerily toward a singular target, dealing 3d20 magical damage, and forcing them to make a DC 100 Will Save to avoid becoming cursed. While cursed, they receive 1d20 damage at the start of every cycle. If the Crystal Drake rolls this action again while still having someone cursed, they destroy the curse, dealing 4d20 magical damage that reduces the cursed player's maximum HP by half of the rolled damage.

When reaching 0 SP, the Crystal Drake makes only one action in the cycle and becomes vulnerable. After the vulnerable cycle, the Crystal Drake recovers all its SP. It can't make two similar actions, and the AoE actions have a 1 cycle cooldown.

It was a disaster of immeasurable scale. Nothing worse could have happened! There was no greater shame... that her and Hanno's duel being interrupted! Rage boiled inside of Lucille as her golden gaze fell to the side and on the now very living ice dragon. Also, had she heard the little girl's challenging words just a moment ago? Where did she go anyway? Eh, probably decided to hide because she knew she was no match for the two pros at snowball throwing. That said... the rather imposing ice sculpture sure was full of surprises.

"Hooh... so in the end, it's you we have to fight to claim that heart, hm? Fine by me! I will never back down from a challenge!"

First of all, she had to test just how sturdy the ice was! Dashing forward, her claws glimmered with dark energy before they were buried in the dragon's body, ripping out a chunk and having the wolf of darkness retreat again.

"Better than some old training dummy and most wild animals... but nothing that my claws can't pierce. I will tear you apart piece by piece, ahahaha!"

Lucille was quick to charge in for an attack, striking the drake that, while didn't seem to react to the 'pain', it did consider the damage it took, flapping its crystal wings that sent it upwards, not in a flight, but in a high jump, before it clenched its claws on the ceiling of the cave.

Its head tilted, glaring at the beastfolk, then shifting its attention to the faerin, considering it an easier target due to the lack of immediate hostility, releasing its claws from the ceiling and going horn-first toward him, followed by a bite with its wide open mouth.

Hanno's eyes widened seeing the large crystalized beast charge toward him, with Hanno throwing his shield forward in a quick attempt to try and deflect the attack, groaning at the impact before a sudden bite nearly caught him, not being enough to pin him down, but enough to cause a severe wound on his sides.

"Damn it-!" Hanno rolled away. "I'm not sure if this is any challenge, it has that little girl!" He warned the beastfolk.

As the cavern itself roared and groaned from the dragon's weight pressing up against it, Lucille did not look one bit discouraged or even afraid in the least. In fact, she looked rather delighted that there was some real fighting going on, regardless of the reason why.

"Heh, then that means she failed the challenge, right? Boy, she will be surprised how kick-ass we are once she crawls out of the thing's body after we've defeated it!"

With that huzzah in her step, the darkness enveloped Lucille once more. This time, however, it was an even greater boost than the last time. All four of her limbs were coated in dark flames, a certain glint of danger dancing in her golden eyes. Now was not the time to worry, but to act! As soon as the dragon came back down, focusing entirely on Hanno, the dark wolf would leap atop its back and start clawing at its wings in an attempt to properly ground it.

The crystal beast tilted its body as it felt the claws sinking deep into it, clicking its shape as it turned to face the beastfolk.

Hanno rose an eyebrow, surprised at the girl's statement. "You are a cuckoo, buddy." He muttered, shaking his head and glaring intently at the drake, taking a deep breath, and charging forward, clasping his hand on the ground to take a high leap, throwing a sequence of blows that attempted to hinder and stun the creature, albeit it wasn't as effective as the faerin wished it was.

Taunting (255)

The beast, now shifting its attention, flapped its wings, leaving its heart exposed for a moment and brimming, trying to curse Hanno, that had managed to suppress its effects, just before the dragon held a breath, and released it, soothing the minds and muscles of the adventurers.

The Crystal Drake used Glowing Heart on Hanno (Taunted), dealing 28 damage. He must make a DC 100 Will Save to avoid becoming cursed. While cursed, they receive 1d20 damage at the start of every cycle.

The Crystal Drake used Sleeping Breath on Hanno and @Lucille Fer, dealing 28 damage. They must make a DC 80 Will Save to halve the damage and avoid falling asleep for a cycle, not managing to do any action.

At 5 Zalrisis Stacks or more, you must make a Fortitude Save with DC equal to 50 + 10 for each stack of Zalrisis you have to avoid becoming crystalized.

‎-26 HP (Sleeping breath) + Asleep

Well, everything was going pretty well. It even seemed like the beast was exposing its beating heart, tempting Lucille to simply tear it out with one powerful attack. But then it opened its maw and out came the breath attack.

"Wha- Wha's... whazzis... zzzzz"

Unlike Hanno, it seemed that Lucille inhaled a tad too much of the frosty mist, causing the girl to fall asleep standing. And yet, she didn't fall over. Instead, she continued fighting even in her dreams... although, as one could imagine, it was highly ineffective.

Her punches were flying all over the place, hitting just about everything except the dragon and her one ally. Although it seemed that her sleepwalking was also good enough to not get her in any immediate danger. It might have been a sight for sore eyes, but it unfortunately also meant that she was not helping tear the dragon to pieces for a bit.
