The blue of the distant horizon was almost melding with the clear skies up above, carrying a refreshing breeze that did wonders for those who were beginning to feel exasperated beneath the sun's relentless assault. Even in a world full of turmoil such as this, plenty of people - be their landers or starcalled, chose to spend their time around the ocean's border, littering the beaches with towels, bags of snacks, and umbrellas to shield against the heat. Politics and the fear of Falderen's inhabitants be damned, people were gonna have their virtual vacation!

However, there were also many secluded places along the shorelines. One of them was a coastal lagoon, largely hidden from view due to the inland side being largely surrounded by a rocky terrain that not many would care to traverse, be it simply because it seemed like a waste of energy with a perfectly fine beach not too far from here, or for fear of hurting oneself on the sharp, jagged rocks, and tumbling down the steep rocky side.

Yet, the reward for getting past this obstacle, or simply arriving from the ocean's side, was a beautiful body of shallow azure water, in places made colorful by countless corals underneath. Much of the space was even shallow enough that one could easily stand with water reaching only up their ankles. Though, of course, there were also many spots deep enough for a swim. The natural beauty of this place could hardly be adequately conveyed with words alone. The fact that not many knew of this place made it all the more alluring, for a sense of privacy was almost assured.

It was then perhaps amusing that a player who had only started playing a short while ago made her way here with ease as if she was drawn to this place. She could be easily spotted in one of the more shallow areas, squatting down at poking at a turtle sitting right in front of her, face still and unmoving while her eyes were transfixed on the creature. Wearing what could fairly easily be assumed to be a one-piece swimsuit, or perhaps a stylized attire for diving, she didn't seem all that out of place. Though... her appearance, with long white hair, sporting several crimson red and ocean blue strands, would likely tip people off to her nature as a starcalled.

Paying a visit toe Ilmea's Lament was always a treat for Hanno. A nice beach, lively and coloured beautifully by the virtual nature of that world. It was a place that was beautiful as it was dangerous, and it only added to the thrill the faerin knight so much liked.

By his back, his enormous eldritch shield had her big central eye wide open, watching the surroundings with curiosity, while wiggling its tentacles toward shells and anything that looked remotely edible—

As he strolled across the coast, a singular figure caught his attention. By afar, her colourful palette made he think that perhaps she was some sort of water fairy, or maybe a siren or a nymph. But it was none of that... By approaching, it was clear she was just someone with a very exotic outfit. "Heya, buddy! It is dangerous to be so carefree around here." It was a playful warning, and Hanno's friendly expression didn't push a lot of urge into it.

Half of the reason was because he was there, so if anything happened, he could just step in and give her a hand. The other half was that she was most likely a Starcalled, and that meant she was far from defenceless.

The sharp voice drew the girl's attention quickly, her body twisting slightly as she looked over her shoulder to witness the man addressing her. Or perhaps it was not at her? Nay, she was alone here, as far as she knew. Her colorful eyes blinked a few times as she stood up, a crab held in her hands. Turning to face the faerin fully, her head tilted to the side quizzically before the crab seemingly performed a small pointing gesture.

It seemed that he should have heeded his own advice. Hanno would suddenly find himself surrounded by a circle of crabs that all emerged from the sand and the shallow water's surface. They were not monsters or anything, just regular ol' crabs. But they clearly took some kind of offense to his words of warning. The girl herself turned the crab in her hands around to look at him with slightly narrowed eyes.

Hanno was surprised by the girl's reaction, but even more surprised at the crabs suddenly appearing and showing their complete frustration regarding his words and actions. The Shield also wiggled her tentacles, blinking at the little creatures that surrounded her and the faerin that wielded her.

Turning at the girl, he waved both of his hands negatively, shaking his head at the same time. "Hey hey, no need to fight, alright?" He rested a hand on his waist. "These cuties aren't dangerous at all, but the stuff that are farther into the sea are."

Hanno smiled. "And sometimes they show up by the coast." He added, tilting his head.

"Name is Hanno, by the way. Hanno Futaba." Hanno tapped the Shield on his back. "And her name is Ghast."

Once again, he rose his hands, showing he intended no harm. "We are just patroling around, so don't worry about us... But if you don't mind me asking... What are you doing around here?"

Observing Hanno for a while longer, the girl merely shook her head and threw her hands up, seemingly in resignation. Though, her eyes quickly opened wide and her lips straightened as she realized that the grab she was holding in her palms went flying along with her gesture. That said, after a few flips and somersault, it safely landed in the girl's hair. Now nested up there, it clicked its claws a few times and all the other grabs that were threatening the faerin turned around and started scattering.

After such a display, the man's question was nothing short of puzzling. The girl's gaze narrowed a bit as she pointed her right index finder at the top of her head, where the crab happily resided. It, in turn, waved at the newly arrived duo. A small sigh escaped from the girl's lips before she pointed again, this time behind the fae boy, at the vast ocean stretching toward the horizon. Her other hand traced a single finger across her neck before she formed an X with both of her arms and shook her head.

Hanno rested a hand on his waist, watching the silent girl go on with her signs and gestures. He looked at the crabs, then at the ocean and back at the girl again. "So you are just chillin' with the crabs? Well, then I guess I was a little worried for no reason. I doubt these little buddies plan to go deep where trouble is. You have a good company with ya." He nodded.

As for her last sign, he pondered, resting a hand over his chin. "No words, hm?" It wouldn't be the first time he has met someone mute in Terrasphere. Rook for one was his friend, even if he haven't seen him for a while now.

"I hope you won't mind if I join you in this. I was going to take my time while patrolling this area, it is too nice to just rush past it." Hanno chuckled with a shrug.

Not many people around these parts were particularly conscious of the nature beyond 'this is a nice beach to swim and sunbathe at' so when Hanno actually paid any attention to the crabs and was completely chill with them, the girl nodded and extended her hand toward him with a thumbs up. Clearly, he passed the vibe check.

Though crabs were clearly not all that was here. Outside of corals, many birds also made their stop here as well. The deeper pits were filled with colorful fish as well. Lily could only affirm Hanno's assertion that this place was quite nice. At least until the moment when the very ground beneath them shook.

The sand Hanno was standing on top of parted as something giant emerged from beneath - a crab! Or rather, a giant crab that stood at least 3 Hannos in height and a solid 6 Hannos in width. A colossal creature that had Lily stare at it with wide eyes and awe. The real question was, however, if it was peaceful or not.

Hanno blinked at the girl's thumb up, but grinned and thumbed up back. He wasn't really sure what she meant by that, but he wasnt the type of guy that would reject a thumb up, an approval is an approval!

When the ground started shaking, however, both Hanno and his Shield had their eyes wide open in surprise. Hanno tried to reach for the girl, but before he could, he felt the ground level raising and the distance between the two of them growing. He tried to keep a balance, and he managed thanks to Ghast holding them tight and firm on the ground while being on his back.

He huffed gratefully to his Shield, getting back on his feet and crawling a bit to get on the 'edge' of this newfound high ground... That happened to be a huge crab.

Hanno slipped a whistle in awe. That would make a wonderful and big crab soup— And the thought of food snapped an idea for him to avoid any escalation of problems. He leaped from over the crab, landing between the big animal and the girl, shooting a grin to her before turning around and facing the giant crab.

He quickly shuffled a hand into his hilariously big backpack and pulled out a small box filled with cod croquettes, holding it out.

The crab might have not entirely appreciated someone dancing atop of it, somewhat indicated by how it started stepping left and right the moment it fully emerged, even before Hanno fully jumped off. And not that it could realistically have moved any other way...

Either way, it clicked its giant claws, like steel scissors that could probably cut through just about anything with enough force applied. Even its smaller counterparts would make troublemakers regret their actions with a powerful pinch. And it seemed to be readying to claw for Hanno, who heroically stood in front of Lily... at least until he presented a snack.

It if were possible, a giant exclamation point would have appeared not only above the titan crab, but above Lily as well, as she looked over Hanno's side to spot something that both looked and smelled delicious. It was clearly a great success, too. Despite their intimidating size, the crab delicately grabbed one croquette after another with its claws to stuff them into its mouth.

At least until the water underneath Hanno bubbled a bit, and a jet erupted to knock the box out of his hands. Or perhaps a better description would be a water tentacle? It soon became quite apparent that the food's trajectory was quite calculated to land in Lily's hands.

Hanno huffed a chuckle seeing the giant crab grab the croquette with such a gentleness and care that was completely mismatching with its large frame. The faerin, however, was more than willing to let the crab have even more, it didn't need to be humble, there was plenty of croquettes!

And Ghast, his Shield, carefully tried to reach the box with her tentacle as well, seeking for some of the tasty snack— But before anyone else could reach for any croquette, the abrupt water snatching the box out of Hanno's hands surprised not only him, but his Shield as well.

The reaction from the knight was a bit jumpy at first, but when he noticed it had landed on @Lily's hand, he smirked and shook his head, resting a hand on his hips and exchanging glances between her eyes and the box of croquettes, crossing his arms as he waited her to do as she wished.

As soon as the box tactically landed in her hands, her eyes would lock with Hanno's. It was almost like a challenge, even if he was just staring to see what she would do. But nay! Those colorful eyes of hers, reflecting the hues of the surrounding water and sand, would be unmoving and unblinking. A staring contest with no end. They would continue to peer into the faerin's very soul... as one of the girl's hands slowly, methodically, moved to the box... and took out a croquette. And that hand would move back! Gaze unbroken, determination unwavering, resolution firm as steel - she would bring the croquette to her mouth... and quickly munch on it.

As soon as she did, the crab quickly sidestepped Hanno and stopped right next to the girl, mouth opening and blowing several bubbles at the one who dared to steal its meal. Lily remained unphased, but her stare was at last broken, somewhat forced to pay attention to the crab, expression blank and unamused... and at the speed of light, she'd stuff at least three more croquettes into her mouth, prompting the crab to start throwing a bit of a temper tantrum.

Hanno's gaze lingered on @Lily's mesmerizing and colourful eyes, filled with the defiant and challenging waves that tried to push him into action until she finally started moving. A croquette was taken, and an eyebrow rose as his lips parted briefly. He really wanted to contest the competitive ambient that was being created regarding croquettes, something that he thought it was probably going to be mostly one-sided—

But how wrong he was, the sudden Crab's movement startled Hanno, and his Shield that wiggled her tentacles and opened her eye widely.

The Faerin tried to step in, hoping that things wouldn't get out of hand until a flurry of bubbles made him wave a hand in front of his face to shake off those harmless displays of frustration... That could only get worse when Lily stuffed all the croquettes into her mouth.

Hanno's eyes opened widely, and he quickly placed himself between the two of them, gesturing the crab to calm down. He opened his hands, and the Shield opened her tentacles (while the smaller tentacle tried to sneak a croquette away) and then he slowly pulled a stick from his backpack.

He twisted the stick, and started pulling it until it clicked four times, becoming longer and revealing itself to be a fishing rod.

The ever-valliant Hanno did his best to get between Lily and the crab, but to quell a freshly formed rivalry over delicious food was a difficult thing indeed. So even as he brought up the fishing pole, there was the question of the remaining croquettes, as few as there might have been at this point. The elf's eyes locked with the crab's as they gazed at each other, each leaning slightly to the side so the faerin wouldn't be quite as in the way.

And, without any warning, the box went flying as Lily tossed it into the air. A spark flash both across her eyes and the crab's as they both primed themselves. The crustacean did not hesitate in suddenly jumping high into the air with frankly remarkable agility, swiping several scattered pieces nearby. At the same time, a large spiral of water emerged from beneath them all as the girl jumped around with great agility, using the water as if it was a solid surface, to get high up and start collecting as well.

By the time they both landed... they had just about equal bounty, hard-earned. Lily seemed to end with a tiny bit more, but when Hanno wasn't looking, she tried to feed the excess to the strange shield that seemed to be looking at her funny throughout the whole ordeal. Only once this whole ordeal was clearly settled did either of the two parties acknowledge the idea of Hanno going fishing for them all.

Hanno watched the situation unfold with a jaw-dropped expression. He couldn't believe that @Lily had simply decided to make it all about a huge competition mid air, with the battle for the croquettes becoming a huge display of agility and technique.

His head tilted, and the one winner of that whole situation was Ghast, that wasn't even going to get any croquette in first place, but managed to convince Lily to feed her one of those. The giant eye of the Shield closed, opening in the shape of a mouth with endless fangs before chomping down the croquette fiercely, but somehow not even scratching the girl's hand. In fact it felt strangely like someone just snatching it away from her hand.

Sighing, Hanno didn't even pay attention to the feeding, looking at the two with a big eyebrow raised. They were done?

He looked between the two.

They were done.

With a small smile, he pointed at his fishing rod again, flexing his free arm and pointing at the coast, carefreely moving to that direction and carefully pulling out some bait box from his huge backpack... Before peeking at Lily and pondering, taking a bait and gesturing how to put the bait on the hook of the fishing rod, before looking back at Lily and offering her the hook and the bait for her to try it herself.

Well, that shield certainly was something. After chomping the croquette down like that, all Lily could think about was what else she could try to feed it. Would it eat junk? How about sand? Maybe it was a shield that doubled as a portable disposal unit. Though it did appear to be a living entity, in which case it would probably not appreciate being fed just about anything. Then again, chickens did exist...

That said, the girl was getting a little weirded out by something that was becoming increasingly more apparent as time went on. While Hanno might have already been getting ready for the fishing, the moment he would turn toward Lily with the hook, he would spot her squatting down next to him with a sharp-looking stone in her hand, pointing it and tapping it on the sand in front of her.

A small area in which she used said stone to write a few words. They simply read: "You can still talk, you know" Nothing more and nothing else. Tapping it a few more times for emphasis, she wore an expression of befuddlement as to why the fae would forego his own speech just because he wasn't getting any verbal response from her.

Hanno watched @Lily's writing, raising an eyebrow and looking at her. "Yeah, I know. But there isn't a lot of talking to have with a giant crab." Once again he shook the fishing rod and the bait.

Whenever she was ready, or not, he would grab his spare fishing rod, preparing the bait on its hook and looking around for the perfect spot to toss it. When finally finding it, a smirk crossed his lips, bracing himself before throwing the line all the way near the spot he had deemed the perfect place to start the fishing.

He adjusted the line a few times, reeling it slightly and finally letting it settle before sinking the rod into the sand, crouching to surround the rod with a small mountain of sand, giving it a firmer base.

Being done with the job, he glanced back at Lily and waited to see if she was following the steps.

Lily's eyes narrowed a bit as she continued scribbling. "I'm not a giant crab" But whether he even saw the words written in the sand was not certain, given how quickly he returned to the idea of fishing. And sure enough, she watched as he got to work... or showcased exactly why so many people saw fishing as the most boring activity that could be comprehended by the human mind without it collapsing on itself due to sheer boredom. To the point where the fishing even happened automatically, if you left the rod in the sand for long enough.

She wasn't exactly following along. She never went fishing, and while she watched him do it just now, she wasn't actively following along. She was almost more interested in swinging the rod around, seeing if she could pull off the more classical vision of fishing... but the idea of accidentally hooking Hanno or Ghast by the eyelid quickly stopped her.

Letting out a sigh, the girl started waving the fishing rod in front of Hanno, shaking her head.

Hanno could peek at what @Lily had written, barely managing to catch it before the waves engulfed. He chuckled to himself, shaking his head a bit.

With most of the setup done, Hanno had all his attention on Lily, and when she waved the fishing rod and shook her head, he crossed his arms with a slight frown, glancing back at Ghast that simply 'shrugged' one of her tentacles. "What's up? You didn't understand how to use a fishing rod?" He raised an eyebrow, looking at her overall reaction.

He couldn't quite get what she meant at first, but he offered an alternative— "If using a rod is too hard, we can always try to catch them in the good ol' way." He gestured a couple grasps with a grin. "You seem to have a knack to be along with the wild sea life, so maybe that fits your style more."

It seemed that her message wasn't quite conveyed with just wild flailing, what a big surprise. Taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Lily then proceeded to do the second best thing she could come up with - very lightly bonk Hanno on the head with the fishing rod. How dare he doubt her ability to do anything, even though he knows nothing about her!

But putting that aside, the girl cast a glance at the open water in front of them. The ocean that was washing over their feet for a while, humming a comforting song along with those tiny waves. The good ol' way, he said? Well, he was correct that she had a knack for this sort of thing, and got along with the sea life. But she also felt like showing off... and it wasn't exactly in line with the good ol' way.

Waving her head in front of her and then sharply pointing it up, the water some distance away from them where it was no longer all that shallow, started churning before a giant ball of water simply flew up into the air and became suspended above the ocean's surface. And inside of it, a portion of a school of fishing was swimming around. Sure seemed effective. And naturally, Lily turned to Hanno and Ghast with a smug look on her face.

Hanno crossed his arms, unsure of what to make it out from @Lily's gestures. The light bonk made him rub his head after a brief flinch, but he didn't react much aside from letting out a confused sigh.

When she gestured once again, this time to the direction of the sea, Hanno followed her gesture with his eyes, pondering about what was about to happen until the water seemed to deform. He blinked a couple times, and then opened his eyes widely seeing the hydromancing in action.

Ghast, for most of part looked at it with a hungry interest, seeing the school of fishes swimming in a contained water sphere. Meanwhile, Hanno held his breath at the sight, there was something really amazing at seeing all those fishes shimmering while having their scales reflecting on sunlight, in a water ball that was floating.

"That's really cool! I've never seen something like this before." Hanno grinned, looking at the sphere for a while, and then looking at the girl's eyes.

"You don't plan to just drop them here, do you?" He chuckled, then added— "By the way, I don't think I've caught your name."
