Travelers Gate: Boss Challenge

After reaching the end of anything that could even remotely be seen as a tutorial, you stand before a door into the darkness. The hissing of the creature within was surely anything but a "Trinity". Did the mascot keep cats now perhaps? Was this an effort to garner attention from Astor the ionce nfamous "Cat King" of Astorea?

Who could say?

A Traveler rarely turns back when they see a possible secret hidden away from where the eyes of the masses should look upon. Your party enters the tiger's den.

The two Neko Trinitys you had followed in greeted you as they swayed like dolls on unseen strings. With them doing little more than repeating themselves you notice your surroundings.

This chamber was larger than any before. It also lacked a door or any other type of obvious path forward. On the walls, you could see bookcases, swords, the trunks of trees, the large fin of a shark, and even what looked like an actual pickup truck fused into the walls.

A truck? Was there at one point a more modern dungeon setting planned? Whatever this place was, it was becoming more like a trash dump for an endless variety of things all fused into one lost location.

But why had it appeared now?

These questions would not be answered, rather the long ear-piercing hiss once again echoed across the chamber. It was then that the slightly elevated floor in the center would boil with a black substance. It looked like the pool you may have encountered on your journey through this maze.

It wreathed...
It churned...
It rose...

A black shadow stretched out above the growing sludge, which was now beginning to burn with an aura of dark fire. The shadow twisted and bent. Long arms extending outwards, tendrils morphed out from what was forming a faceless head. The tendrils became tipped with claws of onyx

Two burning inhuman eyes appeared within the shadow.

The body lit with the same unholy fire. A burning torch of shadow upon a bed of expanding liquid miasma. It had taken a similar but larger form than the 2 Trinitys(?) before you. It screeched with such intensity it felt as if your eardrums would burst. You felt like it could suck your soul straight from your body simply by having your mouth open. Perhaps you should shut it then!

Was this a Dissonance?

The time for that had come and gone.

The innermost chamber of the Travelers Gate. A wide open space with many jagged and deformed objects jutting out of the walls. The stone floor rises some in the center where a single giant symbol has been engraved into it. It has unfortunately eroded to the point of being impossible to recognize.
  • Victory Condition: Defeat (?) Unknown.
  • Defeat Condition: Party is eliminated or retreats.
  • This encounter will be rerun in the future if failed. The cutoff point for reruns is Season 5.

He looked around to see who it was that had joined up. Blue pupils lighting up as the familiar faces of @Jin and @Seto Kurama stepped up to the ring. Followed by the short foxgirl @Kyra Vashtana and blindfolded maiden @Athena . The only one of his party members who he could not gleam any information or make assumptions about was @Herrscher, but she seemed eager enough to come along and help. It made for a fairly even team.

When the smaller catgirls rose up beneath the platform, Zelrius was never one to waste a moment. He grinned, and reered his heel back, before pushing off his right foot. His first move was always to test the worthiness of opponents. Fires immediately spread out fromhim, engulfing him and the eager-eyed enemy staring him down. Putting her constitution and energy on Trial.

Zelrius had rushed forward before Kyra could even consider what was really before them. She felt her eyes go wide at the giant shadow being, the words, the shriek, everything slamming into her at once. Her ears pinned themselves against her head as her hands shot up to cover them, eyes squinted closed against the pain.

She didn't like this, not one bit. And as she felt the pain inside her, she struggled to reach out, touching the three closest individuals as best she could.

The group entered the room and just as quickly, the enemies appeared on the horizon. The fastest of them, Zelrius, hurried forward to begin his assault on one of the adds. With that decision made, his own fate was decided. His katana surged free of its sheath and raced across his open palm, sending a crimson wave out from the fresh wound. The Bloodsworn erupted into action. They were faced with multiple enemies.

"Divide et Impera!" he barked out loudly, sending the command across the battlefield so that the others could adapt on the fly. "Divide and conquer."

While the others focused on the first add, he would hold the second's attention. The blood orbited his body like a fluid satellite, twisting and writhing in accordance with his will- and once he was within range, it raced out and slashed at the strange catlike Trinity, daring her to respond in kind.

Following after the rest, Herrscher could not help but feel a bit nervous. This was going to be her first time being involved in challenge alongside different players. Unfortunately, she did not have time to compose herself as different enemies appear before her party. One stood out in particular, that being the mischievous shade.

You can do this. Now's not the time to be afraid. Don't let everyone down!

Assisted by @Kyra Vashtana, she shoots her a nod of gratitude. Adrenaline now rushing in, which also made her feel a little quicker, she reacts. The Shadowmancer moves up and assists her ally ( @Zelrius ) by animating Trinity(?) B's own shadow and using it to restrain the target.

Athena followed after the blonde beastfolk. His zealousness was contagious, the rest of their companions following his lead. Gripping her greatsword tightly she angled off to his right, keeping some distance between her and the enemy.

Having reached her destination, she slammed the tip of her sword into the ground. "May your justice be upon us and our enemies, that you may smite the unworthy..."

Almost instantly a large scale of divine light materialized behind her, a rough approximation of @Zelrius on one weighing pan, and Trinity B on the other. After a moments deliberation, the side with the Zelrius figure started to fall with a click. Athena let out a little gasp. That couldn't be right.... Just as quickly it reversed it's sentence, Trinty B's weighing pan falling all the way down with a bang.

Golden light shone down around Zelrius, and a much more intense beam burned Trinity B. "Endra is with us Friend!" She shouted to him.

Travelers Gate: Boss Challenge

The party went to work against a single Trinity(?) while Kijin made efforts to hold off her twin. Being in close to the Trinity mimic, the dark swordsman would be doused in the fumes of its rapidly vibrating body. The green fog enveloped them both and he would begin to feel dizzy, the enemy becoming a blur and the screeches of the Unknown coming from every direction.

The Trinity(?) that was taking the brunt of the party would be struck off balance and crumple in a heap for a moment. Its arms and legs were placed in awkward impossible angles, its eyes staring down at the ground and hair limp.

Until that same hair shot forward and grabbed a hold of Seto like a crab's pincers. Each strand dug in as the long strands of hair began to pull him towards the fake. The Trinity(?)'s hairline atop the head would then split open with a sickening crack as a tongue lashed out with rows of cat-like teeth gnashing at the samurai.

The Unknown shadow would sway like a tube guy as it grinned. Then it suddenly became stiff before sinking into the shadows at its base, taking its miasma with it...

An echoing screech heralded in the bubbling darkness erupting from the ground between the party. The monster's four arms, two from its sides and two from its head, reached out from its pit and pulled itself up at its new location. The surrounding darkness overflowed out, it began to expand much farther now. It began to sweep over the party as the tar crept around their feet.

Streaks of red lightning could be seen in the miasma. The intensity nearly in rhythm with the blows upon the Trinity(s).

Another hiss, or more like an attempt at one...
But rather it seemed to be bothered...
As if it was coughing...

He was the first to move forward, standing there, mouth closed as the fires roared out around him, and then died down to a small shower of embers left floating to the ground. The catgirl still stood, though notably shaking now. She passed the test, to the Felis's dismay, shown by the blonde tail swishing impatiently behind him. The Shadowmancer (@Herrscher ) seemed to have an idea, pulling the catgirl back and leaving her wide open for the ensuing power attack made by @Seto Kurama. Followed only by @Jin 's shout of Latin, a beautiful language, and a good strategy.

With @Kyra Vashtana in the backline, and the appearance of scales weighing their souls, his heart dropped as the scale did so itself. If it wasn't for the fact that Trinity had grabbed Seto with her hair, the blonde would have turned his head to look at @Athena

It seemed Endra was on their side, and he'd make use of that. Slashing wildly at the catgirl with his blades.

Despite feeling lightheaded by the toxic fumes turned gas, briefly blinding his vision in the process, that didn't deter one bit when he felt Trinity wrap herself around him via her bangs. For a instance, his anger swelled like a balloon as he moved against the Trinity.

Using his anger as a weapon, he gritted his teeth as he mustered just enough strength within his arms to fire off a concentrated gust of wind into the mascot's bangs, that once it reached a critical point after not being able to escape, imitated a small shock wave to go off in the immediate vicinity, allowing him to escape. Once freed and seeing @Zelrius go on the offensive again, he joined in himself, using his blinding speed to land another devastating barrage on her damaged body.

As the Trinity fell to Seto's blade, its arms and legs fell off into foul-smelling pieces. Its head crawled by its hair-like arms for a couple of desperate seconds before deteriorating completely and sinking into the dark substance covering the ground.

The air in the chamber grew thick as Unknown wreathed in a sudden rage. The shadows that clouded its visage parted somewhat. Creating a clearer and clearer image of its sleek raven-colored flesh.

The haze that surrounded him and clouded his vision dulled Jin's senses, but the faintest traces of her outline remained. The others were far enough away that there couldn't possibly be another target... right? Operating under that assumption, Jin twisted his body and spun the lash of warm, crimson fluid around himself, then sent it out like a cracking whip.

When his attack struck, instead of cutting deep or stinging, it circled quickly and effectively like a pair of bolas, weaving a web around the Mimic's body, tightening in an effort to contain and suppress further action. Its attention was on him, and that was the goal.

He just had to keep it there.

With successful teamwork, the party manages to make quick work of Trinity(?) B as the add disappears. But the job was not done yet. Though when the add has been defeated, Herrscher notices that it had done something to Unknown. Her mind gets to work so she quickly, and instinctively, shouts this information out.

"I think that's doing something to the giant shadow!"



Herrscher calls out to her allies after noting the death of Trinity(?) B had greatly upset Unknown. If she could help her allies take out the remaining add, they should have an easier time defeating the dungeon boss. So she does just that, moving up to a zone next to Jin and Trinity(?) A. She too would Hinder the target. Like Trinity(?) B, she would animate the shadow of Trinity(?) A and use it to hold her down.

Athena prepared to dash back from the miasma, but it stopped just before reaching her. She was the only one who wasn't standing in the goop. Her instincts told her that the stuff was dangerous, if not now, in the near future. She gripped her greatsword tightly, dashing around the edges of the miasma to reposition closer to the remaining Trinity. She slid to a stop, dirt kicking up around her feet.

Clasping her hands gently once more, she repeated another, slightly different prayer. It seemed something about the Felis man was a little off, what with how the scales of judgement had hesitated when confronted with him. Maybe asking Endra to judge all of them had been a bad idea. With a gesture of her sword, an aura of light enveloped Zelrius and the remaining Trinity, originating from her sheathed blade. The Felis was surrounded in a protective aura, and the Trinity was blasted with a scorching ray of divine light.

Whatever had happened, Kyra couldn't consider anything other than escape. Her head pounded, the physical effect of the enhanced hearing causing her to cringe every time the shadow beast made any sort of sound.

She realised, suddenly, the blood covering the other individual - whether his own or another's, she could see the injured state he was in. Suddenly filled with determination, Kyra rushed across the floor, careful to avoid the shadowed figure in the centre, stopping only when she'd managed to wrap her hands around Seto. Closing her eyes, she whispered as she reached out with her soul, connecting herself to Seto himself as she let the energies flow between them.

Travelers Gate: Boss Challenge

The remaining Trinity mindlessly ignored its kin's death. It prepared to grasp Jin as he was dazed by the fog, but no... another had gained the creature's attention. The goddess named woman would instead be reached for and dragged to the monster as its head tore open much like the other one earlier.

The miasma was burning. It grew hot. The flesh of those standing within it, and especially ON it would feel intense nerve pain throughout their body. The crimson lightning struck them swiftly before finally dying down. Unknown had shared the agony of its creations with those that harmed them. More would come surely...

A cough, a hack, a disgusting bursting noise, coming from Unknown as a black substance hurled from its gapped open maw. The black glob collided with the ground and the smell of cat vomit filled the air. Then a form rose out. Piece by piece it took shape.

A Trinity(?) smiled as it spoke, coming to life.

"W-w-w-w-weLcoMe!"



The Trinity and perhaps even the Shadow Clouds your party had encountered throughout the Travelers Gate were born from vomit. Yet this was not the end...

For indeed Unknown's eyes glowed brighter as it hissed at the party. Its clawed limbs struck the ground and its back arched. Its flames stood on end like a cat's fur.

The prey was found yet it struggled.
Unknown was lost but not alone.
The fun had just begun!

The next one dropped with the intensity of the slashing swords, falling to the ground like a broken doll, before Seto delivered the crushing blow. That was one down. Two to go. Pivoting on his heel, and being enveloped in light from @Athena's divine protection. It was a welcome gift, before it the light seemed to go out like a broken lightbulb. He looked frantically over to where she had last stood, ready to shout a 'What the hell?' at her, and to see the blonde woman get pulled away by the other being. And then, for the one they had just killed to be replaced by black sludge, transforming into an exact replica. Zelrius's lip curled in disgust, "Another.." the word spoken softly to himself, eyes scanning the area.

his vision was slowly drowned out by the sludge and black mist that permeated the air around the Unknown, and burned his skin. There was no time to waste, whatever this was, it wasn't good for him, or any of them. He pulled his foot back, launching off the heel to slam into the newborn.

Thought still embarrassed by her touch, he found himself more motivated to protect Kyra and the others, even after another trinity had appeared and he found his skin burning from the miasma. Still determined, he joined @Zelrius in another assault who took the initiative again to hold the woman in place. Gripping Mursama within his hand, he charged directly for the trinity, hoping to cleave her body in many pieces.

The strange, foul mist that clouded his thoughts and numbed his vision dissipated only after he had leveraged his strike against the enemy. For some reason, he felt the strangest sensation, as though his cursed blood had stricken a target not intended... but he that couldn't have been the case. He hadn't noticed anyone else in the area.

Irrelevant.

The other two players converged on the creature that spawned suddenly, eager to murder the meager allotment of health it had. When it remained standing, Jin made the executive call. Ping the same creature again to hold it, or let the Priestess who had relieved him of duty maintain aggro while he delivered the coup de grace.

A dead enemy was far and away more influential in the grand scheme. Killing the first seemed to have proven detrimental to the Unknown figure in some way. If more of its minions died, would it become easy prey?

Jin charged across the eerie floor and brought his sword around, coated it with blood from his hand, infused his weapon with fell energy- then he cleaved the mimic with a quick, precise cut.

After dealing with the other add (Trinity(?) C), Herrscher shifts her attention to the dungeon boss as it appears to have lost its shield. Seeing the opening, Herrscher quickly reacts.

Appearing by Herrscher's side was this shadowy knight that wields a great sword. Listening to its summoner's orders, the knight rushes forward, attacking Unknown head-on without displaying any sign of hesitation or fear. Its eyes burn blue, taking the offensive for Herrscher. Meanwhile Herrscher stays in the back, watching her shadow summon fight. She could not help but feel a little nervous but she knows what its capable of and will support it.
