Trinity Center: Battle Arena



"Konichiwahallohello! Welcome Travelers, thank you oh so very much for coming to Trinity Center today!"


Your party would exit the transporter that links to Trinity Center from Brisshal to be met with the chipper voice of the mascot, Trinity.

The Trinity Center existed in its own bubble of sorts, not having any apparent interaction or semblance to the rest of Terrasphere. Especially not the area where the transporter can be found. A place only the Starcalled can see.

The center is broken into several areas, unfortunately, there is no lobby or a good place to just mingle, which keeps it from being a "base" of any real use. Luckily, the Starcalled created Astorea. This has been something that Trinity has been very excited about in the past.

Today, your group had decided to take on a challenge. So the path through the center would be directed via a pulsing light running along the floor that led you further into the mysterious location. A door blocked by beams of azure would block your path, until those bars would glide to the left.

Stepping through you were now in a large flat chamber. Above you were stars and nebula circling about however it was more of a holographic image in appearance than the real thing, unlike the starry night sky that could be seen from the thin rectangular windows throughout Trinity Center. On the other side of the room was Trinity with her hands clasped behind her back and an enthusiastic smile plastered upon her overly perfected kawaii face.

"Yay! You made it to the simulation arena, I hope it wasn't too confusing! This place had some remodeling done! For every new section shut down, we have to reopen another kay?!" So it can make the place just a teensy bit mazey hehehe!"


Taking her hands away from her back and making a wide gesture around she continued.

"This arena has special protections that prevent any permanent harm from coming to you! So you can go all out! Don't attack each other though, it only works between you and me, kay? Now! You guys are here for a mega super battle right?"


Trinity punched the air but then wagged her finger with squinting eyes.

"Welp, it might not be super DUPER. This is tier one, so it's more of a test than anything. The system always changes a little so you can use this to try the latest alterations to your abilities too, kay?"


She nodded. No matter what you may have said or how you reacted, she simply continued as she did, much like NPC from much older and far more normal games would. The beams behind you closed, sealing you into the arena.

It seems you will have to ask her if you want to leave.

"OOOOOKAY! Let's get started, the challenge is to bring my health to 0. I know you can do this kay?! BEGIN THE BATTLE!!!"


The mascot's slim figure began to radiate with energy and long strings of random numbers and runes encircled her feet as she entered a swaying, perhaps to a tune only she could hear. Tier 1 or not, there were enough signs by now to show that this "enemy" did not play by the rules others did.

It was time to fight!

A space within Trinity Center specifically designed to host battle simulations. It is a wide-open flat surfaced circular room sealed off to itself. A dark sky filled with stars lies overhead and a mysterious force prevents any sort of death from taking place here. You can use any ability, and the battlefield remains completely undamaged regardless.
  • Victory Condition: Bring Trinity's visible HP down o 0.
  • Defeat Condition: Party is eliminated or forfeits.
  • This encounter will be rerun in the future if failed. There is no cutoff point for reruns.
  • All Actions recorded on your linked sheet from the LFG are usable. Including any 1 equipped Extra Slot ability.
  • You may use Attack, Defense (can only protect those in the same zone as you, but can target enemies adjacent), and Support (excluding Revive) actions with Range +1 without Extension. These actions will be at Disadvantage (roll twice, keep lower result).
  • Deal an additional 10 HP Damage with all attacks due to Progress Evaluation.

For every 300 HP damage dealt to any amount of enemies, this gauge increases by 0.1. On your turn, you can consume set amounts of oversoul to immediately gain the matching Free Action effect below. It is said that there may be ways to increase gauge fill rate, and strengthen your options depending on the Starcalled's progress in the world.

Guidelines


  • 333 word limit. Since this is not some main story encounter, huge amounts of text are rarely needed. Going over the limit will be met with a MUCH higher aggro towards your character and possibly additional penalties. Assuming your post is not ignored completely.
  • 24-36 hour post cycles. I will be lenient on those who need a few hours (think up to 48) and will end cycles faster if everyone finishes up quickly.

Zelrius followed the guiding light, looking at his allies tentatively. He knew @Magdalyn - they had journeyed together before. She was capable. @Yugam was a bit less well known. But visages of the back of his head were appearing in the redhead's memory. Black hair at Red Fever, at Camp Hope. Maybe at Lubeck, with Moonsong? He couldn't be sure. If he's still alive, he's got to be a half-way decent player, right?

And that left the total strange @Erick Styker . He seemed nice enough, but they didn't get much in the way of conversation between the transporter and Trinity's speech. They'd have to see, and see what's coordinated. Inside were the three objects, Zelrius only taking a moment to flick between them, seeing the orb-like sphere floating above and behind the mascot-girl-of-the-hour. It was now or never. It was too bad Seul wasn't here with him, at this hour. This time, he would win.

He bent his knees forward, heel off the ground, and bolted with a puff of erupting flames behind him. Instead of drawing his weapons, there was a second idea, his swift movement included his arms out, intending to scoop up Magdalyn and take her straight to the enemy with him. Making it an easy attack for her once he was done pondering the orb.

There was no time wasted between the small group's arrival and their joining of combat. The man who looked most like a leader moved first, carrying one of the other combatants with him into the front lines. Promptly distributing her into position for the initial onslaught, he busied himself with assessing and dealing with the strange, orb-shaped construct that was situated furthest from them.

Erick took immediate note of these geometrical structures and could only guess at their importance- but to simply ignore them seemed like folly. He knew that he would be limited in what he could do for the others if these proved dangerous, so the best course of action was to divide, assess threat level, and respond accordingly.

Therefore, when he came into close quarters with the pyramid shape, he stayed on his toes and glanced over it, seeking to understand its nature and perhaps divine a means of dealing with it. When he realized that there was something specifically strange about it- how it seemed to float on its own, independent of any apparent apparatus- he decided that it was some sort of gravitic anomaly.

And gravity was something he did know about. In fact, he knew quite a bit about it. With a newfound understanding of the object and a little bit of Astramancy-

"There we go...!"

Between him and Zelrius, that left only one more of the strange things to contend with.

As Yu had entered the arena, his eyes quickly swept over the area, assessing the situation, quickly deciding upon a course of action. "I'll take care of the cube," he reported to the others, and before long they'd all took off running.

The Hunter beelined for the digital box, eyes recognizing it as an age old puzzle, even if the smaller sub-blocks weren't obvious. He'd solved this puzzle thousands of times before. Now? He could do it under fifty seconds. The man lifted his hands, digitized circles forming at his fingertips as the smaller subsections of the cube lit up in different colors, scrambled. The man couldn't help but grin. His hunch had been correct.

First layer, cross, corners. Second layer, edges. Top layer, cross, corners, edges. Done. Yu's hands rotated the digital circles, hands moving rapidly as he solved the cubic puzzle until all the colors had aligned. Upon his success, the whole cube briefly glowed white before shrinking and disappearing completely. Easily done.

Vulnerable

Only seconds after their arrival, the team burst apart like shrapnel from a bomb. Everyone knows their job, she mused appreciatively. So what did that leave for her? Her bi-colored gaze settled on Trinity herself, and a wicked smile played across her face.

"Hey Zel! Mind giving me a lift?" The answer came in the form of an arm around her waist, and she gave a startled huff of air as she was yanked off her feet. Surprise quickly gave way to amusement, and with a war whoop, Mags dragged her broken sword from her belt. "Bring me closer!" she commanded, waving the bare hilt dramatically. "I want to hit her with my sword!"

Zel obliged, depositing Mags only a few strides away from Trinity herself. While her three comrades dealt with their respective floating shapes, Mags brought her damaged weapon to eye level.

You're up! she thought. Give me a hand?

"You're not taking this very seriously."
Her sword's spirit's voice, though as smooth as ever, held stark disapproval.

It's training. And aren't I allowed to have some fun?

Her head was filled with a long, disappointed sigh. You should train as you plan to fight. And also, no.

Mags pursed her lips, and forgetting herself for a moment, said aloud, "Then help me end this quickly."

A long pause. Fine.

The blade that erupted from her hilt glowed with a harsh gold light, illuminating Mags' face as she closed the distance between herself and the mascot. "Let's gooooo," she bellowed, humming with borrowed power as she slashed at Trinity.

"Oh very good players! Passing the trials with flying colors! That's the way!"


Trinity clapped with a smile as she walked with the stride of a model towards the center of the arena.

A very enthusiastic attack was made by @Magdalyn catching the mascot mid clap. Trinity would not even flinch from this continuing her movements unabated. However, the pixel-like particles that came from her struck body made Trinity's willowy figure a blur.

This was no beginner the mascot was hit by!
The tiniest bit of a confused expression with a finger to her cheek.

"...Welp, you sure are high level for tier one kay?"


Trinity's face immediately changed to a bright smile as she snapped her fingers.

"I know how to fix that! Balance check! Time out kay?"


Spinning to face Magdalyn (yes she wasn't looking at her earlier). Trinity's hands formed a triangle with fingers and thumbs connecting. She thrust her hands forward creating a flat 2d triangle of energy, only to blow a kiss and shoot it at Magdalyn. The swordswoman would be enveloped in a pyramid-like field that also cut off all oxygen and was increasing pressure on her body with every second.

Trinity would then move towards @Zelrius who was closest...

"Huh?"


The heel of one her shoes was suddenly wrapped in glowing threads that were connected to @Erick Styker and @Yugam.

She shrugged with no other emotion but a smile.
Her body spun.

Trinity whirled like a top, her hair turning to blades of azure. She headed towards Zelrius and tore into him. One short hop, two short hops, three short hops, hair lasers cutting all the while. Right at the end of her spin, she released a wave of bright white particles at the Fame Swordsman. These buried his body in light as they each exploded, pinning him in place.

Meanwhile, Eric and Yugam would find themselves dragged by some unseen force of gravity towards Trinity. Their fate threads are now firmly tangled around her leg and their UI's blinking with a never before seen ailment.

Trinity returned to just swaying to her unheard rhythm as if on autopilot.

For every 300 damage dealt to any amount of enemies, this gauge increases by 0.1. On your turn, you can consume set amounts of oversoul to immediately gain the matching Free Action effect below. Whenever a teammate is Killed/KO'ed the gauge drops by 0.3 points. It is said that there may be ways to increase gauge fill rate, and strengthen your options depending on the Starcalled's progress in the world.

VULNERABLE



Zelrius was happy to oblige with Magadlyn's request, letting go of her by the target in question, moving toward the dark orb. He took a breath, tilting his head and reaching up to take it into both his hands and pull it closer. He could see his reflection in it, like one would in a TV screen in loading screens or darkly lit scenes of a movie. It was maybe the first time he had actually seen his unaltered reflection since making this avatar. He was... fitter than he remembered making the character. And badly in need of a shave.

He shook his head, looking at the orb, trying to see into it deeper. Only to be distracted by his reflection again. Quickly realizing that this was the Test of this sphere. Trying to 'focus' on it, to really ponder it. To unbox it with your mind, without your thoughts wandering. And just as he saw the blue in his eyes reflect, the orb shattered and evaporated into pixels.

he looked up to @Magdalyn with a smile, ready to declare his victory to her, as well as @Yugam and @Erick Styker . Only for the first of those to be suddenly trapped in a pyramid shape, and Trinity to spin to him.

His first instinct was to dodge, to duck forward and close the gap between them while letting her strikes go overhead. It was a mistake, tearing him to shreds instead, his movements working against him and catching him more of an asswhooping.

When the shards faded and she was done, Zelrius took a step back. "I have some new toys too." He thought to quip back to her. Then igniting that toy with a stomp forward of his foot. Creating fire around the form of her feet and legs, scorching everything from her knees downward.

Then he paused, letting it simmer back. That wasn't good enough. So he took another step forward, raising his arms into fists to burn her away.

Yu had hardly managed to keep his lunch down as the world suddenly became a blur, ending only when he skidded to a stop just a bit close to the AI than he'd started.

A closed fist brought up to his mouth as he tried to force the bile back down his throat, leaning on his sword (Hey, easy, you're gonna bend me!) for support as the man woozily looked over at their teacher of the day. "Ohhhh, that wasn't fun," the man groaned as he straightened his back. Yeah, he'd really like to not do that again. "Erick!" the man shouted to the blue-haired man as he began to rush towards the AI after a couple of tentative steps.

His sword began to glow black as he charged forward, dark energy swirling around the blade as he swung. The insidious aura burst forth as Unmei's edge struck the digital form, tendrils of that same dark energy wrapping around Trinity as Yugam carved through her.

"All yours!"

He watched the others take the Gambit with some level of reservation. Would it be so easy? In this, a situation where death was disabled, they could afford the Proverbial Pickett's Charge; but in the world outside? This was the exact type of situation he sought to avert by picking up a support role.

Tactically, it was not a terrible decision. There was the statistical probability of success based on visible numbers. Her HP was low, within error. Ultimately, if he made the call to play defensively here, it would fly in the face of his allies and probably serve to create friction later.

All of that careful evaluation in just an instant told him that the correct move was, with no downside under their current circumstances, to overextend.

For Victory.

He cast off his shackles now- the real ones, bound around him ephemerally at the behest of Trinity- with sheer Force of Will. Surging forward with glyphic energy materializing around him and pulsating to some ancient, unheard rhythm, he reached out to the immaterial and seized command of it.

Around Trinity, the world became sluggish, turgid, like the mucky waters of a swamp. The act of moving at all felt surreal, like being underwater. The current grew stronger by the second, until it became impossible to fight.

Erick exhaled sharply, both hands now knit together as he slammed the Temporal Prison shut.

Instead of attempting to free @Magdalyn the Starcalled had went all out to finish the battle. Even the trip up that was entirely unintentional, of Fate Tangling two of their threads did not deter their aggression. Truly, the Starcalled that had joined the game as just fresh-faced players had become accustomed to it now.

Trinity had nothing to teach them at this level.
She walked to the wall of Eric's own version of her Time Out Pyrimid and tapped it with her finger. the wall would open, and she made her way to Magdalyn to place her hand on the field.

"That's that!"


It would fade and free the woman as Trinity walked some more with a nod and spun to face the party with a enthusiastic:

"Congratulations! You're winner!"


She hoped in place with a twirl. Seemingly not at all aware of her incorrect use of words.

"Thank you for playing super awesome players! You did the bestest! Soooo now I will add TP to your storage! I hope to see you next time kay?"


She stared off into space and made a slight bouncing motion like an idle NPC in a far less sophisticated game might. She spoked again

"Please exit the way you came, or just log out and you will be in East Brisshal when you next login for another exciting adventure!"


She said nothing more because there was nothing more for her to say.
