> Alone marched the man of wisdom into resplendent halls now abandoned. And the Oubliette balked, for the knowledge within him lived only within its darkest depths...
> To the east went the quiet ones - the ones who knew how to slip through shadows unseen. Not even the shadows of the Oubliette could see such ilk, caught as they were within the chains of their roles...
> The brave trod into halls lost to ruin and pestilence, unafraid of what lurked within. For they had braved worse, and such small creatures were nothing in comparison....
> And the boughs of the tree began to stir as its fruits were plucked for the first time in an age...

> And as the Starcalled began to creep through its halls, the Oubliette stretched wide its mouth as it roused...

# Caution, is it?
# An unexpected behavior, if the stories are to be believed.
# It is not an unwise one in this place.

# Good. It would be a shame if their story was to end prematurely...

Cycle 1.5 - Scouting

Scouting North (Far Scouting)
Average
- You learn the name and description
Statue Chamber
Past the curtain lies a small, round chamber, dimly lit from above. A statue stands in the middle of the room, depicting two larger-than-life figures in painted stone. One is a man, dressed in armor and holding aloft a shining sword. No helmet obscured his handsome features, but his face is twisted with scorn. He looks down on a scarred and kneeling woman, dressed in tattered robes and bowing a head shorn of hair.

There is a placard on the base of the statue. It reads, "The Division of Rhiannon"

Scouting South
Average
- You learn the name and description
Servant's Hallway
The tile cracks and darkens to the south, and the lights in the ceiling flicker off for longer than they flicker on. In those moments of light you can see books and pages scattered across the floor, all damaged in some way. Yet they seem to twitch as you grow close - weakly, but still moving far more than any book should.

Scouting East
Spectacular
You learn the name, description, exits, and event type
Restoration Lab
The sharp smell of chemicals fills this room. Tools fit for the rebinding and restoring of books are stored in cabinets and spread across counters. It feels like this place is still in use - as if the people using those tools merely stepped out before you entered.
Exits: West

You sense that there is a challenge ahead...

Scouting North
Average
- You learn the name and description
Gallery Hall
All kinds of artwork line this hallway - paintings of landscapes, busts of figures you don't recognize, and glass cases. Yet the busts are toppled and the cases are broken and empty - and tellingly, the glass lies outside the cases, and not in.

Scouting South
Average
- You learn the name and description
Receiving Room
The shelves of this room are crowded with books, and more are stacked in corners. Oddly enough, many of these books seem not only new, but modern - some of the author names are distinctly Starcalled, and it doesn't take much searching to find recent publications and histories among the shelves and stacks.

Cycle 1.5 - Exploration

The Lobby

Occupants @Rael, @Aroda

The sound of Aroda's rifle echoes through the lobby as sparks trail away. For a moment, it seems as if the leaves of the tree rustle in response... but there is no wind here to move them, not even from the hallway behind you.

And still there is the sense of being watched, like something is just behind you, watching from that point behind your head you cannot see...

Make an Awareness Check (DC 40).

Munch, munch.

A sound reaches your ears - the sound of someone biting into crisp flesh with relish. It comes from the tree that shares the room with you.

When you look, you see a young woman sitting amidst the branches, transparent to the point of near invisibility. One by one, she delicately picks the black pips from a split-open pomegranate and slips them into her mouth.

There is a moment where she looks your way, and in that moment you make eye contact. She blinks slow and catlike.

> Rael. Average capability: C.
> Notable trait: Mindsend.

# She sees. Interesting.

It's not quite words that reach your ears - more like a thought, drifting through the forefront of your mind.

And then she is gone.

The Regal Hallway lies to the North
The Cobwebbed Crossroads lie to the West
The Pristine Crossroads lie to the East
The exit lies to the South

Regal Hallway
Occupants: @Askera Question

The books begin to rise slowly, opening and shutting like mouths as they climb into the air. It's something like watching scallops swim, if scallops were paper and leather. Whatever kept them from attacking has apparently worn off, and they move to surround Askera...

And then a streak of lighting comes blasting through the room and strikes one of the thicker books. It falls to the ground, smoking rising from it as it begins to smolder.

If there's any surprise from the other books, they do not show it - and how could they? They're books.

...and well, despite being an inexplicably flapping book, one of them does look... strangely tempting...

The spider crumples easily, green and black ichor spilling across the ground. The others creep forward, briefly ignoring Ludmilla to instead crowd around their former companion. Manibles twitch and fangs are bared as they feast, draining what little liquid remains from the crumpled carapace.

Then they turn to you, fangs bared - unaware of the danger, they instead act as if they'd merely been given an appetizer...

Walking into the room cloaked in her illusion magic, Alecto frowned when she spied the small, shadowy creatures.

What are they? Rats? Strange. I've never seen creatures like these. It's as though they're living shadows... interesting.

Seeing Ayna move to scout more of the area, Alecto gave a warm smile and wave.

Have to keep up appearances now...

'Cynna, I'm going to capture one of them. If they can communicate maybe we can extract decent intel from it.'

The second after communicating with Cynna the sounds of an attack reverberated through the halls.

Of course one of these idiots had to go and make a racket. What a wonderful idea, let's make enough noise to stir every single enemy within this shitty tower. Simply moronic... though I suppose that may send whatever creatures dwell here hurtling towards the idiot that made the noise which could prove useful.

'I'm making my move. Try and take the second alive as well.'

You're not going anywhere rat. I want that book they're carrying...

As the rats began to scurry away, Alecto saw her opening.

'Remember, capture not kill.'

Transfiguring one arm into wind while holding a bag in the other, Alecto made her move swiping at rat with the intent to injure then bag the creature in one smooth movement.

After, she would move to retrieve the book the creature had been carrying.

'Well this'll be one for the resume, here goes!'

After Askera's warning, Cynna didn't dare hesitate. She hated dying. She'd never tried it before, of course, but this wasn't like trying pickled peppers, Cynna was pretty damn sure dying sucked.

Returning her handgun to her case, Cynna removed a nice black bag from her inventory and pounced, like, well, a cat.

*Floop* the bag flew open like a pelican as Cynna swiped, and then, wasting no time, she slammed the bag into the ground and slammed her briefcase on top of it like a karate shop. She was using her weapons case as a bludgeon in hopes of knocking it out...

To an onlooker, it might have appeared as though Cynna had done this before...

'Some scratches here but I think I got it. You good lecto'~?'

Cynna, hadn't bothered to peek into the bag, but she wasn't sure how heavy one of these kobold shadow rat thingies were supposed to be anyway.

If she had been alone, Nai would have moved on. It was enough to learn of this place, after all, to gather information on her own, while using the comms to keep the rest of the party informed as she teased out more and more information about her surroundings.

It was enough, going by their job description, to fill out a map.

But, alas, a child (@Ludmilla Orphys) had followed in her path, one eager to spark conflict. Gravity cracked open one spider like a coconut; the rest fed on their brethren before turning their gaze on the child. And from their shadows, Nai stepped forth.

It was as simple as flexing her hand and dropping an anvil on one of them. Splat it went, acidic juices spraying over her suit. Reckless, perhaps, but she didn't feel it.

"How did it taste?" Nai spoke, unconcerned about the final spiderling. It would be dealt with soon enough. "The pomegranate."

While Aroda lowers her gun and starts the process of loading and recharging it, her watchful gaze wanders about between the three paths her new companions have started heading down, scouting, and...tousling.

As the room with the strange creatures is swiftly dealt with thanks to a few bags, and a room nearby full of webs was more something she didn't want to look at or think about too much, she re-centers her gaze at the room ahead, where Askera was confronting some books...a bit less impressively. He'd probably be needing more help than the others, especially since he was the only one up there, so...

She finishes preparing her rifle once more, a new projectile loaded, and the blue glow of magic and electricity emitting from its body. With another bit of careful aim, the rifle's glow intensifies for just a moment, before there's another blast, and another streak of lightning.

Ayna stole a glimpse of the two others (@Cynna & @Alecto) with her as they easily took out the pair of strange shadow vermin that hadn't noticed all three of them. She was very much impressed, but she also quickly realized she wasn't needed there in that space anymore. The job was to investigate this library. The undiscovered lab, however, seemed more like somewhere she should be. Despite the present warnings of the strange chemical smell, Ayna decided to investigate further. To see someone's laboratory, work station, is like peering into their soul, she believed. Plus, there could be things left inside they could use. Only one way to find out.

Carefully, she sneaked inside and tried to check out what was in there, what was left more like it. She tried her best to be as quiet as possible, so as not to spook anyone, or anything, if there are still people, or other things, left inside. In her head, it should just be a quick sneak peek. Nothing else.

A good, solid blow from the Beastfolk, the one that had previously been lurking in the room without her noticing, splits a second spiderling apart. A good, strong blow. Like a guillotine. Ludmilla could appreciate that. Her eyes make contact with the Beastfolk, and do not leave.

As if silently challenging Nai, Ludmilla points to the last spiderling, still advancing on her despite the demise of its broodmates. It is lifted from the ground, legs scrabbling, before being sent flying into a doorframe with such casual brutality that more than one of its limbs simply detach with the force.
Its limp corpse is left in the door-wreathing webs that it had been slammed through, innards dripping down.
It's like watching a kid pull the limbs off a fly, only on a far larger, more disturbing scale.

Maintaining the now awkwardly sustained eye contact, Ludmilla licks a bit of black residue from her lips. She had devoured the whole thing. Maybe she could go back for seconds, later.

Like thirst. Papery skin. And something else.

A smile, teeth blackened and voice light. Far away. This was not how a child, even a particularly violent one, would act.

Through there! Books!

She then points to the doorway that she had flung the spider against, voice perking up and seemingly returning to here and now. Childishly. A loud kid in a library.

Someone.

Rael shifted on her heels at the sound, raising her eyes to the tree previously at her back as if suddenly called to it, as if begged to see something she had somehow missed. And sure enough, there was something... No, someone.

Transparent, small, moving as if she had no regard for those who had stepped inside, and not quite dressed like an adventurer, as the rest of them were. Her analysis, however, fell into uncaring ears as the deafening shot of yet another one of @Aroda's weapons echoed across the halls.

"I... I can't quite see if he got injured. Would you watch my back?" Off she was, into the room with the books that had gathered around @Askera Question, two of them unmoving.

The seamstress Rael had conjured stuttered, coming to a stop beside the two fallen tomes and the third still threatening the researcher, body moving with slow, sharp motions as it processed which of the two actions to follow. Lifting the scissors held in hand into the air saw them grow in size, lunging forward to stab the remaining tome.

Yet the Summon couldn't do what its own master would be unable to. Not at this power level, at the very least. The blow missed, stabbing into the ground beside the object, and still the vision continued to move, wandering off into the direction of the barricaded entrance to follow its original orders.

Another blast rings through the air as Aroda fires a second shot. Another tome falls in the distance. Another rustle from the tree, branches swaying without wind. The woman in the tree has long since vanished, through the feeling of being watched lingers.

Fortunately, it seems like this space is still safe - a fact that is probably comforting as Rael departs to the north and leaves Aroda to her own devices...

Another book falls to the ground, scorched and motionless. Only the final book remains - more of a brochure than a book, really, too flimsy to do much more than flap in people's in what seems to be an attempt to be... alluring? Can a book be sexy? Certainly it has a strange pull to it - a feeling like reading it would be a rewarding experience. That it would contain all the joy and humor and answers you might seek...

The "rats" never stood a chance.

There's a brief squeal from the both of them as Alecto and Cynna pounce. Once in the bags, they both squeak and struggle, little claws scratching through the canvas. Despite their efforts, they seem thoroughly contained.

And then Cynna makes her move - first bashing the bag against the floor, then bringing her briefcase down on the ground. There's a brief squeal, a moment of resistance as the briefcase goes down...

SPLORT.

...and the bag deflates as suddenly as a popped balloon, and a black liquid splatters out from beneath the briefcase. A sharp smell fills the air, acidic and burnt, like burning pine - perhaps one they would recognize as the smell of ink. Nothing else remains of the creature within the bag.

All that remains in the room is the book, one that Alecto is quick to claim. Though the cover is stained with ink, the embossed title is clear on the spine: Encylopedia Astorea - C to L.

Web-choked Corridor
"...she sowed the seeds of a thousand children within its fertile halls..."

Occupants: @Nai (Sneaking)
Spiderwebs choke the hallway so tightly that it's nearly impossible to progress. Cocoons cluster in the corners and dangle from high strands, too small to be even the smallest person. Some of them continue to twitch, as if whatever is within still struggles to escape.

The webbing is too thick to simply walk past. It'll take some care and dexterity to find a path that won't end in you getting entangled. Or, you could simply cut and burn your way through and clear the way for everyone else.

Make a DC 30 Expertise check to navigate the corridor, or a DC 50 Mastery check to clear the webbing.

Exits blocked unless corridor is navigated or cleared successfully.
A shattered barricade loosely blocks the West
The hallway brightens as it turns a corner to the North

Restoration Lab
"Do you see? The common folk cannot be trusted! They'll never understand their true value..."

The sharp smell of chemicals fills this room. Tools fit for the rebinding and restoring of books are stored in cabinets and spread across counters. It feels like this place is still in use - as if the people using those tools merely stepped out before you entered.

What stands out the most is a book that lies closed on a far counter, surrounded by tools and strange chemicals. It looks incredibly old, and in such poor shape that it might fall apart if you mishandle it... but it also looks very rare. The tattered cover is finely engraved and gilded with tarnished gold. With a deft hand, you might be able to restore the book enough to make it safe to handle.

Make a DC 75 Mastery or Expertise check to attempt to restore the book. Alchemy and Knack have advantage. If failed, the book is damaged beyond legibility.

"Like a book," Nai concluded.

A library that replicated reality utilizing paper and ink. An encyclopedia, except of the most clumsy, meaningless kind. She let out a breath, then took a few steps to cast her shadow over the anvil. Within a moment, it was gone, incorporated into her form once more, and she turned around, able now to properly examine her surroundings. A half-collapsed hallway to the west, and stacks of books leading to another room to the south. The Faerin mage looked to already be drawn towards that locale, so Nai turned northwards instead, towards the web-choked corridors and the light that spilled out beyond.

"Send me a message if you need help," she said as she strode away. "It appears we're the only two who've decided on this path."

And like that, Nai disappeared amongst the webs, slinking deep amongst the eggs of spiderlings. Searching, perhaps, for any trace of their progenitor.

Hm.

That did bring up a question.

Ayna scrunched her nose at the smell as it wafted with more prevalence through her sensitive nostrils. It wasn't an unfamiliar smell, however, as she had ample experience with chemicals, having been an engineer in the real world and also working on construction in this one. The tools made her raise her eyebrow, curious at their presence, though she mostly left them untouched. Are these bookbinders tools? It soon dawned on her that whoever the tools belonged to may still be in the room, so she quickly tried to get the heck out of there.

That was, until an ancient-looking book on a far counter caught her eye. Without even thinking about it, Ayna immediately approached the curious little thing, attempting to restore it to its former glory. Fortunately, Ayna's deft hands were as per usual at the top of their game at this specific moment in time despite her nerves, the voice in her head whispering to her to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. With that out of the way, she first tried to get some semblance of understanding of what the book was actually about before she'd walk out of the room and close the door behind her.

Askera Question
160 / 160

Location: Regal Hallway

Askera had little time to think. His feet took him off to the side, bolting towards the nearest available exit so as to use the only fervor available to dodge the lancing light that came from between malicious pages of floating books. His tumble took him to the nearest door, which he soon found was locked. A click sounded between his teeth. He had to improvise.

From his sleeve came a blade that was not his own, but instead was a floating plate of Jubjub that had returned to its' master. A strike towards the door, surprisingly, did not break it down-all it made was a small hole in the wood. Damn, he thought, it was time to take some damage--

But damage never came. Instead, he heard the lightning crack of Aroda's gun passing through the corridor once again. He should have expected that, really... All that was left was the really nice book who didn't fire a single shot and, to his surprise, the face of Rael who had come tumbling out to aid him. He hadn't expected the kindness.

"...Thank you, Aroda-san. Rael-san, I am grateful for you, as well. Don't worry too much, though-that one isn't so aggressive. It seems to be passive-aggressive at worst." As far as he could tell, his words were true. The book wasn't firing a single shot, nor was it charging any skills to use against him from what his HUD had to say. He spoke aloud that he would leave the fearsome book to @Rael . Meanwhile, he took a peek into the slight hole he'd made in the locked door. Perhaps he could find some idea s to where it led...

As the creature Cynna attempted to capture exploded, Alecto audibly sighed.

'I don't know why I bothered to ask you to try and not kill it when you're the least delicate person I know, Cynna.'

Alecto looked down at her own bag, it seemed the creature had calmed down.

'Well, at least I have mine. I'm going to go scout ahead while you try and... fix the mess. I suppose we did learn these creatures are made of ink though, so your mistake was a COMPLETE mistake.'

Utilizing her magic, Alecto camouflaged herself hiding in plain sight.

'I'll scout into the southern room. I assume it's a dead end as the southern area of the house is where we came from. Still, there may be something useful there. Even if there isn't, it at least gives us a quiet place to interrogate the little beast I captured.'

Waving goodbye, Alecto moved south.

Cynna had a sack and no rat. Slowly turning to look at @Alecto , Cynna held up a single hand, palm forward.

'Now. I know what you're gonna say, but I think these things were a little overhyped, it's not just because I'm a certified queencore badass, so be careful with yours because they're SUPER fragile... and, made of ink looks like. This ink could be valuable, I'm going to take a closer look at it. Yeah, yeah, I'll catch up soon~'

Seeing @Ayna Nietzsche coming out of the book binding room but not noticing that she was doing so in a bit of a hurry, Cynna gave her a wave and update

"This room's clear~ If you're done in the book binding room, I think I'd like to inspect the tools. We have magic ink, and we have magic book tools, the sooner we figure out how this place works the better. Shadow raty kobodly thingies don't really seem like fighters, so if we can get the jump on them, I don't think they'll be a problem. I'm probably tempting fate saying that."

With that, Cynna entered the Restoration Lab.

First, she saw the fancy tome Ayna had restored... and promptly avoided it. Grabbing the tools and anything that seemed useful or caught her eye, Cynna searched for loose paper and moved to a different workspace where she got to drawing her best Shadow Rat with the ink from the splattered one still clinging to her bag...

vndZGoX.jpg

(The sound of Cynna humming with her tongue sticking out of the corner of her mouth carried a sweet and quiet melody as she worked. Cynna had no idea what she was doing but she had a pretty good feeling that she was PROBABLY using the things right. Maybe.)

Cycle 2.5 - Scouting

Askera
Scouting East
Spectacular Great (Downgraded due to obstruction) - You learn the name, description, and exits
Private Chambers
Compared to the hallway, this bedroom is amazingly spartan. A simple bed, a single wooden closet, a well-worn chair. The most grandiose thing in the room is the bookshelf taking up the entirety of one wall - one that is entirely empty.
Exits: West

Rael
Scouting West
Poor - You learn the Name
Ruined Office

Cycle 2.5 - Exploration

Receiving Room
From far and wide did the carriages come, each carrying a trove of knowledge within...
Occupants: @Alecto (Sneaking)
The shelves of this room are crowded with books, and more are stacked in corners. Oddly enough, many of these books seem not only new, but modern - some of the author names are distinctly Starcalled, and it doesn't take much searching to find recent publications and histories among the shelves and stacks.

A solitary creature inhabits the room, serpentine and black as ink. White eyes shine from its head as it creeps through the room on dozens on legs, while just as many hands grasp and shelf books throughout the room. Its hard to tell if there's any rhyme or reason to its feverish sorting - one moment it has filled a shelf with blue tomes, only to pull them all out and rearrange them by some other unknown metric...

Restoration Lab

Occupants: @Ayna Nietzsche, @Cynna

The book comes together beneath Ayna's hands - though the tools are mundane, the scattered reagents sparkle with magic. Though the labels are stained with small black handprints, you can still see the labels and figure out what they're for - this one to stabilize crumbling pages, that one to brighten fading ink.

You don't restore the book to perfection, but it's at least sturdy enough that you can safely pick it up. The pages of the book are clear, but impossible to read - the runic language within is like nothing you've seen, and almost seems to crawl as you look at it...

Ayna acquired the Forgotten Tome!

---

Ink drips from the bag as Cynna slips into the Restoration lab with a soft plip, plip. By the time she's found the tools she's looking for, the ink on the outside of the bag has congealed, and what is inside has become a viscous mass that's difficult to soak a brush with.

And yet soak it she does. It leaves dark and uneven lines as she draws a "rat"... one that doesn't resemble the creatures outside much at all, but...

Roll Result: 1d4 (4) = 4

It does not move like a rat might, but as the ink dries the lines begin to squirm, as if trying to creep across the surface of the page...

Cynna acquired a Suspicious Rat Drawing

The Pristine Crossroads lie to the West

Regal Hallway
Occupants: @Askera Question, @Rael

The book continues to dark around the hallway's occupants, not too different from the way a fly might orbit a person. In brief glimpses the cover can be seen, printed in large block letters:

Goblins and You!
A Traveler's Guide to Western Brisshal

...is this book really as great as it feels like it'll be?

Enchanting Tome

DC: 50 Retal: 0

Engrossing Tale. Roll a DC 50 Will save. On failure, you are compelled to read the book's story and forfeit all actions until an ally defeats the book.

A locked mahogany door blocks the East.
The Statue Chamber lies to the North.
The Lobby lies to the South.

Cycle 3 - Ink Long Dry

# So, they can see...
# It should be impossible to peer beyond the veil of the story and view its structure, and yet...

> "Who are these that dare creep through my veins?"
> "Surely they are thieves, here seeking plunder"
> "For too long I have slept, that man would forget the laws"
> "No book shall leave these halls, and none shall enter that would steal its stories"
> And so the Oubliette opened its eyes to look upon the intruders within...

# ...hah.
# Perhaps the time has come for some self-insertion.

> ...and as they did, so too did another's eyes open.

The rumbling takes some time to become perceptible - one moment it is a mere sense of something wrong, the next moment the floor is gently heaving beneath your feet. One minute, then two... and then it fades away.

From the north comes a low grumbling...

As Ayna finished her work on the book, she couldn't help but feel a bit of pride in a job well done. Curiouser and curiouser, she tried her best to fully understand the contents of the book but the limits of her runic literacy proved to be an insurmountable obstacle, and she simply ended up taking the Forgotten Tome with her as she exited the lab and returned to the halls she had come from...but not before giving @Cynna a nod as a gesture of acknowledgment.

"All right then. Good luck. I'll check north from outside."

And then she sneaked into the Gallery Hallway to have a closer look at those artworks and whatever else seemed suspicious in there. Like those glass cases on the floor maybe? Now, what could have made this mess?

Spiderthreads laced densely, yet such obstructions were merely a by-product of the egg-laying of whatever foreign system operated this life-mimicking library. So long as she was careful, Nai could find paths through this corridor that accomodated both her height, her horns, and her hair. Occasionally, she stopped, eyes zeroing in on a cocoon that wriggled a bit too much, as if promising the hatching of a new spiderling, but nothing broke out, so there was no reason to break in.

She didn't even consider the possibility of saving any expedition members who may have been caught here. They were already deemed dead by their leader, after all, and corpses could be retrieved after the mysteries of this library were well-elucidated.

Citronella scents mixed with dust, and she closed one eye against the glare of a supernova's vestiges. A premonition, moments before the floor itself heaved underneath her, more like the rippling of a lake's surface than the rumbling of an earthquake. Unnatural. Foreboding. But it was in danger that answers were found, no?

She pulled out a stronger concoction this time, a sprig of dried herb, roasted in the oil extracts of berries and leaves and placed it against her tongue, allowing it to slowly dissolve, slowly fill her body up with a steady pulse of energy. If things got bad, she could run. If things got real bad, she'd pull the trigger.

With luck, it won't ever get to that point.

Nai steeled herself and stalked past the last cobwebs, into a room suffused with light.

Seeing that her second shot hit home and cleanly rid the world of another angry book, Aroda gives herself a nod in satisfaction as she begins the process of reloading yet again. Seeing that another book was still up there, one that as far as she could tell, she didn't want to go hang out with just yet, but that wasn't overtly dangerous...yeah, the ones that moved up can take care of it, for now she'll look around in here a bit while she waited...and reloaded.

Over the comms, one of her new companions - Nai, apparently - had asked for something a bit odd, but considering Aroda was the only one that was actually already here, she might as well try it. The magia takes to looking over the tree that was here in the lobby, wondering what exactly the point of trying to cut it open would be...but she shrugs and pulls out a small pocket knife, regardless. It was a pretty easy thing to make, though definitely more useful as a tool than a weapon...

Regardless, Aroda tries cutting into the tree to see what happens.

Okaaay! I won't get into too much trouble!

All smiles and bounciness again now that no danger was imminent, Ludmilla bids @Nai a temporary goodbye. She had to work on keeping her facade up better, be less ominous, less obvious, but this...hunger. It must be something to do with her special trait, the one that allowed her to recover from the most grisly and debilitating of injuries with nary a scratch, at the cost of the hunger.

Not exactly ideal to have it activating all the time, but that was an inevitability, considering the way that Ludmilla was built to function. No matter, she would find a more efficient way to deal with this in time. More effective than just constantly trying to eat things with even the vaguest magical tinge to them, at least.

Picking the detached spider's leg from off the floor and sucking at the broken joint, Ludmilla found that the blood was acrid in nature, searing her mouth unpleasantly. With an annoyed pout, she drops the appendage to weigh up her options.

Books this way, more inedible spiders that way...maybe there was something more interesting in wait, towards the west?

Askera Question
160 / 160

Location: Regal Hallway

Mr. Question had not been allowed to relax until the second book had been confirmed to be dropped and dead. Even then, the process was still slow as the researcher's guard refused to fall. He knew that there wasn't a real reason to worry anymore-the only thing left was that book floating in the air, the one that had yet to cast a single offensive attack.

He was almost interested in reading the thing, to boot. Even still, something in the back of Askera's skull told him that there was still danger afoot. He decided on a compromise. Raising a hand, a silent command was given to assemble Jubjub above his head. The drone framed him with fluorescent light like a halo.

"Please attack any remaining threats in the room," Askera politely requested. He tried to hide the disappointment in his face when it immediately shot the 'harmless' remaining book out of the sky.
