She was right on the money, the cage broke and the timing matched the timing of her and @Chrys' combination attack, resulting in a cheer from the audience. On fire, Moonsong delivered a witty rhyme to the Titania actress to rile the crowd. It also served as a welcome taunt for the next act, if her memories served her correctly.

"There's no place for you to come back.
As long as I am bound by this contract.
These swords of light and dark shall flay.
Tuck tail to where you belong, you may."

In the meantime, it seems that Titania is continuing her attacks on the Songstress and the Redeemed while the Savage gained an advantage from the range. She, the Lancer, wouldn't let it be. Jumping and doing an elaborate sword-spinning choreography, the Lancer summoned ethereal (safe) swords that circled around the close vicinity, blocking any attacks that might come to her allies; the Hero, Songstress and Redeemed.

"Face me."

The Savage's eyes widened in horror as Titania used her own teammate against her. Well, to defend herself. The Savage had not considered that was possible, but there was no time for self-blame and self-pity. She could still make this right. The Savage rushed forward before turning to gaze toward the Lancer, making sure the audience would see her do so:

"An oath must be kept,
So, my heart, you must live;
This marksman had been inept,
One day, you'll forgive!"

The Savage then took her time to gather her strength, wearing a confident smirk before gesturing for the crowd, specifically the ones who appear only to eager to get themselves hyped up, to join her as she aimed an arrow through her "ballista" at Titania:

"A wicked trick, how nicely done!
But this battle won't be easily won!
Not by you, most of all,
It's time...for the curtain's call!"

Instead of Titania, however, she shifted her target at the last minute, releasing a green magical arrow at the Songstress instead, actually a healing spell but made more dangerous-looking by her Illusion Magic. The suspense should be something the audience would find themselves hooked on. Unless of course Titania once again sees through her trickery.

"And did you believe you'd escape my gaze?
Oh little shadow-witch, relishing in joyous hate?
Ever separated, sins not effaced
Gods stain your fate, let your will desiccate."

A blast of shadow.
It would meet a shield of dark.

One of these was different than the other. One was stage play, illusion, and performance.
The other...

Wendel felt the surge of negative energy flowing from the audience. It was not as much as she wanted, it never was.. but it was a satisfying start. Wendel always felt better about getting a bit of an offering for her help.

Now this woman...

This... was supposed to be a Dissonance?

This stupid pitiful actress didn't have any idea what being that meant. Hell, Wendel barely understood and she WAS one at least from what she had gathered! This play was becoming boring, Wendel should be with Raina. Not here, not wasting her time getting revenge on some dress-up clown. A part of the distorted pinkette thought this... maybe it was the incessant whining of Chibi Magi maybe it was...

And as her body took damage, perhaps even more from her own corruption than the attack struck it was hard to tell. This was all fake after all. The girl began to lose it.

"Hero! My Herrrroooo!
Raina I see you now I see you here!

We shall fight fear! Hehehe♥!"

She made her way across the stage towards @Chrys but in her vision, he was starting to look a lot like Seigi Ling Ling! It had to be! Only one HERO was possible!

Then her dark smile faded and her face became cold, then angry... she recalled what she needed to do now. The Dark Heart fired off more and more shots across the stage at Titania... who was looking closer and closer to what she imagined the monster that claimed her best friend must have looked like .Her desire to murder was growing rapidly.

"Singing girl get a move!
What have you to prove?
U̵̡̔s̵͔͘e̴̥͊l̵̳̄e̷̖̿s̶̠̎s̸̛͓ ̸̖̊ě̷̜v̴͂͜e̴̞̔r̴͇̔ÿ̵̡́õ̷̜ṇ̷̄ḛ̵̈́ ̵̪̈ḭ̷͂s̸͙̃ ̶͎͛b̶̤͘u̷̬͘t̴̢̆ ̴͔͘m̶̙̍y̶̩͐ ̸͙̂H̶̟́e̵̬̓r̶̗͊ö̴̠ ̸̢̓R̷̡̍ă̴̤i̴̅ͅn̸̥̿a̴̰͗-̶̘̑c̷̠͛h̶̗̓ḁ̵͒n̸͙̉!̵͚̐

N̴̬̉̽ŏ̸͙̱̹̀̊ ̶̥͉̖͗͝M̴̧̖̓Ȅ̸̳͇̐R̸͇͘C̸͇̝̞̔͘Ÿ̷͎̥́̐!̸̢͓̮͛̓͆"̵̩̣͛̚ͅ

Wendel eyed Chrys with a glowing eye, her body now fully aglow in blood pink and looking very unbalanced.

Chibi Magi grabbed onto her to try and get Wendel's attention. Would she actually kill this woman? There were a few other things too. Chibi Magi had become very concerned...

The Songstress's voice stuck on one note: a cry of pain as the totally-real weapon pierced her clean through. She dropped to the ground, struggling to stand again among the pool of red beneath her. Lancer stuck firm as a wall between The Songstress and her foe, the weapon which had felled her was used again in an ironic twist, restoring her to her feet.

What on earth is The Redeemed doing? Who's Raina...!?

This part was personal: not just to the character, but her actor as well. Towards her no one fixates...? We'd see about that!

"Is that so...? One glimpse will answer: not so!"

Thrusting her hand to the sky, a torrent of illusion magic poured forth, transforming the entire stage into a swirling galaxy, with The Songstress as its radiant center.

"Behold our great macrocosm of effulgence,
My muse shall eternally recommence~!
A Starcalled Songstress never sees demise,
As long, she lives, in public's eyes~!"

The Songstress turned to the audience, as illusory stars began to shoot from their eyes, swirling around and merging together with her dazzling galaxy. After several seconds, the stars warped closer to their illusionist, wrapping her in a cocoon of light, and then dispersing, leaving her almost completely healed.

The Heart of Titania

zRdVh2U.png

Heroic words strike quite a chord,
But for dispassioned swordsmen, such is but a chore.
Sand blinds her gaze, blades strike her face
And the deathmatch continues to make their interplay!

She stumbles!
She struggles!
Her quarry surpasses, her fury outmatch-ed!
The Songstress sings, bolstered by Savage wit,
The Hero strikes virtuous, whilst Lancer protecteth this!

'yond the devil's grasp, shedding the dark mass,
The Redeemed draws, the Redeemed laughs.

No mercy indeed, no quarter for thee.

Release.

"Friend? Mend? No, your friends wish for but an end.
So save your greivances, and watch calamity descend."

"Wand'ring hearts, clouds above,
My bitter tears, they've dried up.

I let these words, become my curse,
This hateful cry, the world reverse.

I pray,
Can the future bring calm to the sea?
I beg,
Can salvation be delivered for free?
I feel,
My rage, coursing through me.
Nothing's left,
But to scream, shout!
Until this song of ruin, brings 'em down!

C'mon break! Break break fate----!"

And from the Astrasphere, the stars divine,
Comes the Darkest Karst, the dissonant spikes.
Resonant cacophonous, the damsel delirious,
Our heroes quake, most inglorious!

Twilight falls, the nightmare counterside!
Dusk to Dawn, the Deity's Deicide!
But though Sun has fallen, and Moon yet stifled,
From the Firmament, the King sounds, arrival!

[ENTER LEFT, THE KING OF ASTOREA]

"Fear not the dark, Starcalled of Final Spark,
For Iceflame blooms, couresty of the Frostfire Monarch!

Strike down the pillars, make history your mark!
And release valor so brilliant, as to rattle the stars!"

Oooh, love to see it! End 'em all, Titania! Give us the Pandora cut!

Gee whiz, is that the real John Astorea, King of Astorea? Omigosh, I can't believe he showed up in the flesh!

Oh oh oh, if the King's here, don't tell me! Trinity?! Woooooo! Release the Tri! Release the Tri!

Hmph, most disgraceful, for these so-called actors to be upstaged by a mere cameo. Truly, I should've attended a proper, Shakespearean affair at the Swan Theatre tonight instead, if these shameless depths are what these amateurs would do to grab popular support.

Cycle Resolution

  • Twilight descends.
  • @Kamala Graham's Audience Participation, invoking Awareness once more, has supplanted her previous Blessing, drawing the crowd's attention and interest onto her more protective, supportive side! But!
  • @Celestine's Audience Participation, invoking Presence, has supplanted the Audience's interest in the Savage, bringing all eyes upon the starlit stage of the Songstress! But!
  • Titania's Audience Participation, invoking Boss Vibes, has supplanted the Audience's interest in the Songstress, bringing all eyes upon the demonic pillars and the Dissonant Damsel! Her fans love the song and sing along to the catchiest portions! Once per Challenge, the Dissonant Damsel releases an Encore, allowing her to summon a Dissonant Pillar on any square she chooses, outside of cycle and turn limitations.
  • @Magi Heart's Blessing: Once per Challenge, the Redeemed fully embraces the taboo and can perform the Exceed Bonus Action as a free action.

  • Titania's Grand Evocation is unleashed: Dusk to Dawn: Deity's Deicide. Over a dozen Dissonant Pillars have descended from the shadows between Celestine's stars.
  • At the start of this cycle, as well as at the end of every cycle hereafter, if a character is adjacent either horizontally or vertically (but not diagonally) of a Dissonant Pillar, they receive 40 damage and must make a DC 100 Save of the DM's choice (though this is really just going to be in an order that is a pain in the ass to explain). This stacks with the amount of Dissonant Pillars you are adjacent to, meaning more damage received, and more saves to make.
  • While Titania is adjacent to a Dissonant Pillar, she is untargetable.
  • One Dissonant Pillar within your attack range can be removed for every 100 damage your action does.

  • @Chrys receives 120 damage, and must make a DC 100 Reflex, Fortitude, and Will Save.
  • @Celestine receives 80 damage, and must make a DC 100 Reflex and Fortitude Save.
  • @Moonsong receives 80 (40x2) damage, and must make a DC 100 Reflex Save.
  • @Magi Heart @Kamala Graham receive 40 damage, and must make a DC 100 Reflex Save.
  • If Reflex Save is failed, become Immobile. Movement speed becomes 0. Attack range becomes 1.
  • If Fortitude Save is failed, become Vulnerable. Special Actions will make you Super Vulnerable.
  • If Will Save is failed, become Hexed. Attack rolls are made with disadvantage. If this status is removed, receive 20 damage.

  • The Audience's Hype has reached the 1k Threshold, and the Astor Ex Machina has been opened! By the generosity of the King of Astorea, everyone gains the boon of Iceflame! Gain access to all Special Actions and add a +50 to your rolls this cycle.

Combat

4d74ace7c7.png
  • Map navigation, from left to right, goes from 1 to 18. From top to bottom, goes from A to H. Note that once you go to G and H, you are off the stage amongst the audience.
  • Movement in this stage is triple its base (so you would be able to move six squares). Dynamicism passives that take this into account are reduced to one-third.
  • Melee attacks can strike from one square away. Support and Protect actions can affect from two squares away. Magic and Ranged attacks can strike from 4 squares away. With the Extension passive, one can affect any target from anywhere in the map.
  • Multiple characters cannot occupy the same space. If possible, try not to line up vertically either, or you'll be blocking the audience's view.
<< HYPE: 1321 >>
Hype counts upwards for damage dealt to Titania. Every 1000 damage dealt increases the value of the Universal Loot at the end, as well as offering up extra boons from the audience during combat.

<< Props and Bonus Actions >>
Stagecraft is an art in and of itself, and in this case, using such devices could grant plenty of opportunity for dramatic mobility that would otherwise not be possible! And of course, if you wanted to lean in on the art of theatrics as well to further excite the audience, that would be great too! Just to note, though: everything here costs a Bonus Action.
  • Flying Systems: Grab onto near-invisible handles or step onto glass-swingsets, and be swung up into the air by the capable stagehands, who will transport you to set destinations around the stage. Move yourself to one of the four corners of the stage (A1, A18, F1, F18).
  • Lift Systems: Tap the ground a specific way, and be dropped down beneath the stage dramatically, only to reappear elsewhere in a true display of switcheroo madness. +4 to Movement, and remove one status effect from yourself.
  • Drive Systems: Using agreed-upon hand-signals, work with the stagehands to alter the terrain features of the stage with your heroic strength and sorcery. Remove a terrain feature from the map.
  • Invoke Dramatics: Can only be used once per Challenge. Drop your catchphrase or reveal a juicy character detail and hype the ever-loving heck out of the audience! Grant a +50 modifier to your Action.
  • Audience Participation: Utilize an Expertise roll to encourage active participation from the audience for a creative bonus to your battle efforts, as decided by the DM. Overuse will tire the audience out.

DRAMATIS PERSONA

The Starlight Troupe has provided catchphrases for you to use at opportune times, as well as offered up some cues for pre-established plotting to get some extra juice out of this melodramatic epic. Though you're not obligated to only read your own notes, sometimes, genuine surprise is more fun than one's acting alone.

"All you need is guts and effort!"

The Hero
is stalwart and big-voiced, as if always speaking with exclamation marks or All Caps. Once, they were Titania's childhood friend, who harbored unrequited feelings of love towards her. In the climax of the story, engage her in close combat and finish her off, then join her in death as the curtains collapse!

"A job is a job, and I need a drink."

The Lancer
has endured great loss over their illustrious life, and seeks a death that has meaning...yet can't shake off the fact that the Redeemed resembles the soulmate that they've lost once. In the middle portion of the story, close in on Titania and unleash a Twiced Critical Attack on her! If successful, make it epic! If unsuccessful, make it tragic!

"I never miss."

The Savage
is the coolest, hottest, buffest of them all, and has the swagger to match, but has a weakspot for the Lancer as well, having made an oath to fill the gaps in their heart after the battle ends. Make use of the Stage Props the best you can, to show off just how stylish the Savage is~!

"Ah, how fleeting, the dispassion of ennui!"

The Songstress
is the aristocrat who first supported the Hero's ambitions, and wishes for nothing more than to see them survive at the end, but after the terrible journey to reach the Heart of Titania, has begun to feel as if maybe they would be fine if only the Savage survived this. Make sure to speak using the biggest and most obscure words you can find!

"All will burn by my hand!"

The Redeemed
seethes with a manic rage that they can only barely suppress, and that rage is fed by a jealousy that they hold towards everyone else and their multi-pronged romantic interests. All they want is the Hero's attention though, the Hero who saved them once from the corrupting influences of their magic! In the climax of the story, unleash a Surged Reckless attack on any target of your choosing, as it all boils over!

Pillars descended on the stage as Titania called for calamity. "The pillars! It's sapping our strength!" She acted weak, before dropping down the stage with a pop of a smoke bomb, "But it is unfortunate," before reappearing near the center of the stage, "that I was never there. Looks like I, the Lancer, was so fast that you thought that the afterimage was me."

But the situation was not in their favor, and the audience's cheers had shifted to Titania's side as well. It was then a familiar figure made a cameo to boost their morale.

"The King has come and so has your death. I will not show weakness in front of him." The Lancer said with an extra gravely voice. She twirled a bottle of a drink with a dangerous amount of alcohol. Deathsip, the signature drink of The Lancer.

"A job is a job..." She opened the bottle in an extravagant manner, waiting for the drumroll before delivering her catchphrase. "... and I need a drink."

She poured the (actually fruit juice) alcohol from above to drink it, and to give the impression that the Lancer powered up, Moonsong used her Astramancy Aura to do a reverse gravitational pull, making her black cloak and hood flow and slowly rise DBZ-esque style.

"Let me show you, The Moonburst Stream!"

The hooded swordsman dashed around, slashing at the pillars that surrounded the Dissonant Damsel with a well-known sixteen-hit combo, and Moonsong mastered the choreography like it was a dance.

Although caught surprised, the Savage managed to steel herself against Titania's vengeance! What are these things? Despite her concerned thoughts, however, she made sure none of those would seep through her feign of confidence, focusing all her attention instead on ducking and dodging with graceful dexterity. She's far unscathed, but she brushed most of the more visible hurt off like a badass!

"I've got to hand it to you,
That was an unexpected display,
Of power and strength, that's true;
But let me be the cause of your dismay."

Signaling the stagehands, she had the pillar closest to her removed while feigning a pretty cool spinning kick at it that didn't actually make any contact. Acting! After that, she did a backflip in place, disappearing underneath the stage at the last second and reappearing much closer to the crowd:

"Your pillars are no match,
For our unwavering determination;
We are the most heroic batch,
Now witness my righteous restoration!"

The Savage performed some unnecessary but ultimately cool punches and kicks in the air, hitting nothing and nowhere. Then she took out her "ballista" from out of nowhere and shot a glowing green arrow in the air that, upon reaching the highest the audience could see it, splintered into three, and each "struck" an ally. The Savage herself glowed green for a second or two as she regenerated some insignificant portion of her health. No good deed goes unpunished.

"Like I said: I never miss;
It's time for you to rest in bliss!"

To end her turn, she pointed defiantly at Titania while her other hand rested on her hip.

A soul was bending.

The further dramatization of the story that the teen only knew from hearsay. All around her were sounds, singing, chanting, cheering, the effects of attacks whether real or fake. The illusions of the Songstress the force of the Hero, the confidence of the Lancer, and the determination of the Savage. At first it was not enough but it was building and she hadn't done this in a while! So much good to be done, so much grudge to wake on this pitiful mocking BITCH!

Another attack, pillars, efforts to slow the Dark Heart's intentions...
They failed.

"No day no night.
No light no right.
So mean.
Cool beans♥!
I hope you're resigned?
For you shall be denied!
Love upon hate?

This much hate and rage... well, this is what the play wanted right?

With every word spoken with every step taken, the magic grew. Long shadows expanded behind her and wreathed across the stage mixed into the fancy lighting being used for Titania's Twilight attack.

The energy was drawn back with her hand, and she aimed up. Why not just end all of it here? All of these cheering sickos. All of these wannabe heroes? A single rain of death...
And a return to Raina so she may ride off into the sunset they could eat raw meat dumplings!

"ENOUGH!"

Shut up.

"IT'S A PLAY YOU DUMMY! Do you want to KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE? and...and..."

They aren't innocent.
Nothing is...

"Gee whiz...
Is everyone going to burn by my hand?"

Said hand opened, and the blast was unleashed, a blast stronger and purer (or impure) than that which led to the slaying of the undefeatable Revenant.

Shooting out her gloved hand she focused. just in time the blast divided tightly around Titania and exploded behind the false villain, probably causing a lot of property damage and who knows if any stage hands were around...

Wendel almost collapsed.
It didn't matter what the play did.
Her body was wearing.

The Songstress felt dissonant spikes entangle and impale from every angle, dropping to her knees. Her life drained, her face paled, the dissonance marking her with inky black shadow. One cough, then two, until the healing green of the ballista struck her arms free from entanglement.

She gazed upon the one who’d restored her and smiled.

"While we stand together, I can’t deny,
Your savage dispositions draw my eye!
And at my summation, at least I may try,
To sing you my heart before I shall die~!"

Taking a deep breath, The Songstress grinned toward the savage, and began to dance uncharacteristically wild within her cage of dissonant spikes.

"Woah, this wild wild love of ours, it can’t be taaamed~!
Oh this wild wild love of ours, it can’t be taaamed~!
For better or for worse; a blessing or a curse,
Woah this wiiiiild wiiiiild looooove~!"

As she sang, her illusions began to weave across her field of stars, creating wolves made of constellations that descended upon Titania and the pillars surrounding her. Meanwhile, The Songstress turned to the audience and began to clap, hoping they’d join along as she repeated the catchy chorus.

"Woah, this wild wild love of ours, it can’t be taaamed~!
Oh this wild wild love of ours, it can’t be taaamed~!
For better or for worse; a blessing or a curse,

Titania's attack made the Hero stumble, and he fell to one knee. He, however, maintained his iron will and even more iron (gold?) fortitude, remaining stalwart in the face of great adversity:

"FROM THE START, YOU HAD MY HEART,
BUT NOW MY GUTS AND EFFORT,
TELL ME THAT YOU I MUST ABORT!"

The Hero slowly glowed a golden shade, mostly due to his Auric Geomancy, before he suddenly rose up, unleashing an uppercut imbued with sand meant to crush Titania's jaw followed immediately by a knee kick.

"SHORYUKEN!"

The Heart of Titania

zRdVh2U.png

Moonbeams spill, not from Heaven but rather hilt,
As the first quartet fall, felled by liquor and gall,
The Lancer stands, blades clear as winter,
Yet in the shadow of the bottle, he receives his reminders.

Echoing that feat, the predatorial sweep,
Obelisks are downed with but a single of her feet
The Savage leaps, spellbolts splitting to fleet!
Through druidic mercy, did she a new path meet?

And madness responds where madness taunts,
Ever spiralling into the recesses of her haunts,
The Redeemed cries out, devastation unbound
Within ash and exhaustion, could her future yet be found?

Ever alone, ever in peril,
Whether stage or theater, her voice remains unharrowed,
The Songstress sings, of ever-lovelier things,
Though love she had not, could another be her wings?

And Hero, the Hero, might unparalleled!
His hesitation now lost, unshaking resolve he's now got,
He clenches his fist, a blow to rip through this rot!
And with it, his past, his passions, were they all for naught?

"Was it a crime? To believe sweet lies?
Was it a sin? To reach for brighter skies?
Was it wicked? To grant surplus to the have-not?
Was it taboo? To bring justice to the corrupt?"

Titania laughs. She has always laughed.
The Damsel never died, had simply worn the Devil's mask.

"You have adventured.
I have remained.
Have seen.
The orphans starve, whilst the nobles fattened.
The desperate hang, whilst the orchards ripened.
The rebels die, whilst the merchants profited."

Her children open their eyes.
The matriarch, their bloodties.

"Our home is gone.
Our village but memory.
The august days of our youth,
The silly promises that we took.
When delicate fairies danced on petals of edelweiss,
and the deities looked as if they still cherished human life."

It manifests, gargantuan and grotesque, her Apocalypse.
It swings twicefold, riotous in retrograde, her Eclipse.

"Those days are over.
This society deserves not to be honoured.
And so, allow me to deliver
.
.
.
Disorder."

Let's go, everyone! MOON!

Cycle Resolution

  • The second step is taken.
  • @Celestine's Audience Participation, invoking Presence, has drawn the audience's gaze upon her heroic strike, her tragic isolation, and finally, her brutal demise! Once per Challenge, the Songstress can add a modifier equal to Hype/10, rounding up, to one of her support actions.
  • Titania's Blessing: Once per Challenge, the Dissonant Damsel releases an Encore, allowing her to summon a Dissonant Pillar on any square she chooses, outside of cycle and turn limitations.

  • Titania's Grand Evocation: Retrograde is unleashed: Dusk to Dawn: Disorder. The dozen Dissonant Pillars that remain have fused into two Dissonant Cleavers, swung horizontally to bludgeon the party with mountainous force!
  • No tricks, just violence.
  • While Titania is wielding a Dissonant Cleaver, she is untargetable.
  • Each Dissonant Cleaver can be destroyed with a single action that does over 500 damage.

  • @Chrys receives 200 (100x2) damage, and is smashed into pieces. He is 'dead'.
  • @Celestine receives 400 (100x4) damage, and is turned into red mist. She is 'dead'.
  • @Moonsong receives 200 (100x2) damage, and is caught against the Cleaver, carried along it by its momentum. She is 'dead'.
  • @Magi Heart receives 0 damage, a burst of blood knocking her over while the Cleaver passes overhead.
  • @Kamala Graham receives 100 damage, broken but not vanquished.

  • This following cycle will be a split cycle, as Titania's Cleavers have yet to complete their twinned rotations. As such, special rules apply.
  • Those who are alive must read the incoming trajectory of the Cleavers, and, using 3 movement, must move them out of the way. They may opt to give their movement to another character, signified as a desperate push to save someone else, so long as that individual is within their attack range.
  • Those who are dead can give 1 movement to anyone still alive, as a last hurrah to save their comrades.
  • You may use the Rush action to double your movement, making it 6. However, in doing so, you forfeit your action for the second half of this cycle. No other Actions or Bonus Actions may be used.
  • Moonsong, and Moonsong alone, can try to do the thing and attempt to destroy the Dissonant Cleavers. In doing so, they will receive the recoil of their own attacks, and likely die.
  • The purple area shows the path that the Cleavers have already taken.

  • The Audience's Hype has reached the 2k Threshold! But...nothing happened yet?

Combat

804af73914.png
<< HYPE: 2877 >>

This was a very violent play wasn't it? Maybe the actress was getting frustrated by the Dark Heart's less acting and more murder approach. Well, that worked for Wendel.

Although she was tired of this, she can't kill, and Raina wasn't here so she had half a mind to just walk out. These attacks were a joke, why was everyone acting like this was so tough? The distorted girl couldn't understand it or more like didn't want to. Releasing her frustration didn't even help lighten her anger here.

Having returned to her feet, Wendel would heel turn and walk away allowing the blades to just pass her by. Wendel had a headache, if this didn't end she would KILL some people persons and then have to hear the little chibi pests whining. Not worth it right now.

The Hero was supposed to get smashed, and not in a fun way, into pieces. Just like his chosen element. However, at the last minute, while roaring in defiance, the Hero managed to hold on to life, barely clinging to consciousness, a temporary Immortal!

"THE END IS NIGH,
BUT THIS IS NOT GOODBYE!"

The Hero roared and boomed, even as death loomed. Hey, that rhymes! Should've been my line but whatever. Glowing a golden shade, not unlike the very hero's aura in the climax of every story of this genre, this one stood tall and towering, determined eyes on Titania. Some could say he was even challenging her to hit him again. In some circles, that would not be considered wholesome.

The Hero then caught the Savage struggling to get up, immediately thinking that she'd need his loving hands to come and pick her up, so he lent her his sand underneath her feetsies so she can move harder, better, faster, stronger.

It all happened in an instant. The pillars formed a gigantic helicopter blade and bludgeoned the party to mush as it spun with incredible power and spin.

"I am no hero, and this was but another job. But finally, I might rest and enjoy my deserved death." The Lancer lamented out loud to the audience. But was she going to let her party die off with her?

Against all odds, she stood her ground, stopping the Cleavers for a while with both her swords as it produced a deafening clanging sound. She remained conscious on the brink of death thanks to the effect of the Deathsip. But alas, the last resort attack failed to do any meaningful damage to the massive weapon. Only a matter of time before they start spinning again and killing her, but at least some of her party members might escape certain death.

She looked at her friends. The Hero, who withstood the attack. The Songstress, who is now an unidentifiable mist of blood. The Savage, who looked at her the way no one does. And the Redeemed, who reminded her of her past love.

The hooded swordswoman smiled.

"The difference between you and me, Titania? That I don't have anything to regret for."

Gah! If the Savage wasn't feeling the seriousness of the situation just a few moments ago, then she was now. Titania's Cleaver hit her, and hit her hard, but apparently not as hard as her three other allies. This was all new to Kamala, as the last time she had people with her and death was involved, she was the first to die. This is just a play! Just a play! Don't- She tried her best to swallow her rising fears and concerns, souvenirs from the Red Fever. She wasn't Kamala Graham at the moment. She was the Savage.

Body hunched, bent forward, as she put a hand around her stomach and then snaked it toward her opposite shoulder, she struggled to put on a playful smirk:

"You think this is the end?
You're wrong, my friend,
This is but a step back!
Watch me counterattack!"

With the assistance by @Chrys, the Savage rushed past the pillar-cleavers and out of their grasp. She was clearly not in the best form of her entire life, but she was yet to be bowed in defeat, bent to the monster's will, or broken to the point of no return. To some people, that would be considered very cool. She made sure to also do some a flip or two to wow the audience.

As the Songstress sang, Titania stirred in the background, preparing her next attack. And yet, The Songstress was rooted in place, unable to move as the fog of dissonance closed in.

Standing tall and straight, she straightened the bow on her chest, and stared at down with a dignified defiance.

"My song falls apart, and I tip delicately on my tightrope,
I’m still convicted our pilgrimage will succeed, if we only hold on to—
…"

The dazzling young Songstress turned to nothing but dust as her verse hung in the air, unfinished. And yet, her final note drifted across the stage, a wisp of red air empowering The Redeemed to narrowly evade Titania’s attack.

Meanwhile…

"Oh wow, you guys are having the cookies down here…!?" Celestine hushed as she turned her gaze to the table of goodies placed for the special effects crew. It had gone mostly untouched, the illusion and shadow mages were working like crazy to pull off the cool cleaver maneuvers above. Well, that just meant more for her!

"Mm, nice! Are you having water down here too? This much singing is doing me a powerful thirst…"

The Heart of Titania

zRdVh2U.png

Moonbeams shatter against the eldritch mass,
The Lancer's last efforts stifled by Titania's wrath!
Carving through landscapes with such fury obtained,
That even Savage and Redeemed could seek not to remain.
Yet standing alone, stalwart and unmoved.
Stood the Hero still, bloodied and bruised.

"Your allies have scattered, the end truly nigh,
But if you grovel and beg, you-" "SHALL NOT DIE!"
[ENTER RIGHT, THE QUEEN OF FALDEREN]

A golden light, a queen most bright!
D'vangelline arrives, wielding the gods' own might!

"Your comrades have paved a path with their life!
And the Damsel fears, her power declines!
Fight on, Starcalled, clad in the Aureate Aura,
To usher in a more benevolent era!"

Tch, so this is what it is in the end. Just some feudalist propaganda co-opting a purely player-only achievement. Should've expected this after four years. FUCK!

WHERE'S THE TRI? WHERE'S THE TRI?! The hype-o-meter literally broke three thousand, so RELEASE THE TRI!!!

GODDAMNIT LANCER! YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!

WHERE'S THE REVIVES?! GIVE HER BACK, YOU BASTARDS!!!

...

Ah, the Queen looks beautiful today as well. Thank you, kami-sama.

Down beneath the stage, the stagehands were indeed working in overdrive, the temperatures almost sauna-like as they worked not only to operate the complex magitech machinery that allowed Titania to operate such massive weapons, but also pre-emptively repair the stages inbetween the Redeemed's genuine attacks. Still, while the majority of them were busy attending to what was happening with the play, there were still a few whose very job description was to attend to the actors instead.

As soon as Moonsong and Celestine dropped down into the chaos of the stage pit, they were seated on plush chairs while a crew of workers cleaned up their stage makeup while doing what quick fixes they could on the various rips and tears in the costuming. One of them pulled over a tray of bite-sized, high-energy snacks (including dense, but very tasty, cookies), while others offered both bottles of chilled water, as well as a bucket to spit into if a mouth rinse was required.

"Great job, kiddos, especially you, Celes! Ya got some real talent for stage illusions, I'll tell ya that. Almost made me wish I hired youse instead of those slackers over there, RIGHT JERRY? JONESY?!"

The loud-mouthed Faerin ignored what cuss words were tossed back at her, eyes settling back onto the two of them again.

"And Monsoon, was it? Had ta pull ya out even though I knew you got more gas in the tank than that. Can't have ya outshining the Hero over there, after all. But, ey, seeing that the two of ya got the audience so riled up..."

From her baggy pockets, she pulled out two...cups. Cups with string taped on.

"What's say ya two figure out a duet to cheer on your buddies with? Like, some ghostly stuff? Get it figured out. We'll go live with it after this act."

The wind blew as the blades past behind the girl. Her hair pulled along in the wind and her fake blood-covered body continued to walk in a stiff intense manner more than the confident stride of a hero in action flicks. The blood may have shown up more but her dress camouflaged it since that was one of the reasons she wore dark anyway. Wendel was done giving a damn.. so done...

Chibi Magi began to recite the lines in her ear.
No.

Urgggggh... fuck it. She'll ad-lib this crap. So what if the play gets canceled? Wendel had been mistaken for someone else, to begin with!

"A play on this stage.
Taken from a page.
Building my rage.
Tired of this now...
"

Wendel saw the Queen's arrival and had half a mind to blow the blonde off the stage, that would at least be funny. Spinning around she swept her arm out with a red power mixing with her blood pink, deepening it further. The Dark Heart's own magic adding to the play's effects simply by its flashy nature.

"Everyone's dropping down.
A play with too many cameos.
Of overblown renown.
Everyone is just going oh noes
When the Songstress goes to limbo.
The Savage is in my way.
That King is a no way
This Queen is a copout.
Because nothing is being thought out!"

Her brain was melting.
It was time to get rid of some more pent-up energy!

Another series of blasts in Titania's general direction. The buff from her power charging earlier finally left her, allowing her actual rage to leave her some, but now it's replaced by annoyance. Her eyes looked at the stage people to give the hint, get those oversized tin can swords out of here.

"NOOOOOO!" The Savage screamed in anguish at the supposed end of the Lancer, though she made she still looked good doing it by bending her hip to one side and reaching out in the direction of her former oath, one hand against her chest, for the audience to see. "My oath! My heart! You just ruined my peace, you egregious tart!"

Turning her attention toward Titania, she scowled, as feigned fury and annoyance mixed on her face, only to be relieved, somewhat surprised, when the Redeemed took care of those pesky cleavers and bombarded their adversary with magical attacks. Oh, and the Queen was there, too, but Kamala had no idea who she was, so the Savage could only pretend to acknowledge her presence. Nice sword, though.

The Savage moved closer before pointing her "ballista" at Titania:

"Help is here,
The end is near,
Now taste my arrow's kiss!"

Instead of shooting at the enemy, though, she pointed her weapon at the Hero at the last minute, hitting him with healing magic, before dropping her catchphrase to hype the crowd up:

"I never miss."

If this was truly the end, then she had done her best to give justice to her part. It's now the Hero's turn to send the rest of them home happy. You can do it, Hero! Believe it!

With healing from the Savage and the Queen, the Hero mustered all his remaining strength to drag himself right in Titania's face. Balling his hands into fists, he declared what could be his final wish, screaming at her with his big booming voice:

"This life is meant for more,
Titillating Titania,
you've strayed far from your core!
With all this support,
I must free you from your mania:
All I, you, we need is guts and effort!"

That's some horrible, horrible writing. He then threw his sand-covered fist in her direction, though he actually aimed to destroy her remaining Cleaver, which he crushed with all the might and power of a stalwart defender, a guardian of the future, the Hero of squirrels Guts and Effort! Jazz hands! Or in this case, sand hands!
