Red Fever (5) Immunized
+40 HP from natural recovery

The fever was immunized. Not cured, no, but the affects should have been reduced. So why, Caelia wondered, did she feel so...sad? So empty? She looked around the camp as people milled about, watching as Travelers and Landers alike were sprayed with the mist and given the relief they so desperately needed. She was relieved that MIT had been successful in procuring at least some kind of respite for everyone, but the news about the Explorers League was hitting her hard.

What had she really done to help? Had she helped at all? She'd panicked and cried and yelled at people, not helped... The Faerin sighed quietly, moving to go stand out of the drizzling rain that was only making her feel more miserable.

She opened her UI, looking at the blinking logout button for a long moment before closing it. No, she couldn't just leave. They had to find those missing people and get them back. Still, as she looked around, Caeila felt...lonely.

Alone.

It was a hollow sort of feeling that she was used to in the real world, but she'd been desperately avoiding here. @Frey Elzeiros was nowhere to be seen. @Alastair Brass was flitting around like the social butterfly he was. She hadn't seen @Kaede Hoshi since leaving the mushroom house to distribute the immunization to people. Anyone else she recognized seemed to have people around them already, and Caelia didn't want to disturb their conversations.

Do you really have friends here? that small voice in her head hissed. Damn, and here she'd thought she could avoid those kinds of thoughts in this game.

I'm going to help, even if I'm doing it alone, she thought in return.

I just...wish I wasn't.

@Hayate's appearance startles her enough that she looks away for a moment, less than that, and in the time it takes for her to look back, Lucia is gone. An ugly sneer marches across her mouth as she turns back to her friend, emerald eyes blazing. "Dat femèl chen left. She fuckin' logged out!"

Her words devolve into a smattering of swears and grunts of frustration while her eyes, wild in even in this emotionally suppressed state, tumble around those gathered. Others stronger than Trissayne, than Hayate, stood ready to give their lives to get back those who had been lost and yet, and yet, the grand fucking duchess took the coward's way out. Triss clenches her hands into fists, her shoulders trembling, her molars grinding into one another.

It is a monumental effort to remain calm.

"Here," she mutters after a few deep breaths. Passing Hayate one of the serenity mists that was concocted, she finds herself shaking her head in answer to his question. "It was horrible," she complains, her nostrils flaring, her eyes rolling in disgust. "It was like everybody was on dere period and no body had any chocolate. It's amazing we got anyting done."

And at the periphery of her awareness, she senses him, feels the longing in her chest that wants to go and talk to him, to learn, to poke and prod and ask questions. To bow and scrape and serve.

She quells it with a hard swallow.

"...I be glad when all dis shit is over."

Athena plopped herself down on a rock, hoisting her sword and propping it up against her leg. What an absolute mess. Physically and emotionally. She was completely and utterly embarrassed by her behavior and to top it off now her precious sword was covered with drying blood and matted fur. Her nose turned up involuntarily. It smelled like copper and monkey shit.

She could feel her blindfold starting to slip, but she wasnt about to touch anything, let along something that was on her face until she got a chance to wash her hands. She continued to pick pieces of disgusting monkey fur off of her sheath, her fingers trembling with disgust and shame as she relived her prior actions in her head.

Her cheeks burned red. What was she even doing here. A blindfolded fool with a sword she couldn't even unsheathe, swinging it around and lacking about as much grace as it was possible to. She slammed her foot into the ground, little dust clouds rising up from the force. She would do better. She would be better. She wanted to be an envoy of a literal god, she couldn't afford this lack of perfection. Her lips pursed and she spat onto her cross guard, rubbing vigorously with her sleeve. If she couldn't clean the whole weapon she would at least get the scales set into the cross guard clean.

Everything was crazy, @Haru telling her to scram and everyone was cheering for having created a vaccine... Lucy felt tears draw up in her eyes at what Haru told her... She shoved past him, "D-Don't talk to me..."

Her anger had been replaced with mega-sadness... She couldn't help but feel the tears drawling down her cheeks as she took one last look at where the person was that was in Haru's body. Pain clenching her heart as she looked back to in front of her, refusing to look at him again she pushed past everyone else till he was a far-ways behind her.

The mist had been sprayed, her emotions going away and a smile being drawn on her face. She felt whole again, and before long @Brutus Dahlgren had come up to her and asked her to stand next to her. She locked her arm with his, letting him lead her away. Now the two were talking with @Hanno Futaba, @Corsair and @Harveste.

"Don't you guys worry, I'll give you guys my full support! I've got your back, if you guys got mine." She offered Brutus, Corsair, Hanno and Harveste a thumbs up, her smile saying it all as she brought them all in for a group hug, whether or not they complained.

After hitting the confirm prompt, the world faded to black and before long, she had found herself in the world of Terrasphere yet again. A sigh escaped her lips, as she wondered what could have gone wrong after spending the day out of the game, doing things in reality like any normal and sane person should. As her eyelids opened up, she was met with…

A complete mess.

The blonde glanced left and right noticing people from all walks of Arcian life moving about like busy bees. On the distance, she could see the leaders planning something with faces so so tense that she could at least gather that something had gone to shit. ‘Well, ain’t no point in trynna find out what’s happenin’ without askin-EEEAAAH!’ the blonde jumped back in response to bug-shouting man, @Schilva Flasch

‘Fuck… Thank the bloody tumbleweeds, my girlie wasn’t loaded. Almost pulled the trigger…’ she exasperated her frustration, putting her gun back into its holster. After being politely sprayed in the face with some weird medicine thing, she was on her way to get some information of what was going on thus far.

As she moved along, she noticed a strange man (@Haru ), and could almost feel his dark presence from afar. ‘Ey bud, careful not to cut yerself with all that edge ya?’ she waited not for his reply, continuing to move on her way.

Essence found an opportunity to clean herself up after @Creature blew chunks all over her outfit. "I forgive you," she sought him out during their chance to rest, and approached to half-apologize, half-remind him of his choice to use her body as a waste bin. "I wouldn't take that slap back, though. We're even now". Essence turned on her heel, to walk away before he could respond.

Distributing the mist alongside the rest of MIT, Essence remembered her encounter with @Fiora Di Angelo, and decided to pay her new friend a visit. "I wouldn't want a cure for you. You can stay, the Red fever can fuck off. Speaking of which, I'm not sticking around. I don't have muscle like you do," she poked Fiora's bicep before continuing. "But I'll be around when you're done and you can tell me all about it, 'kay?"

The Elf did scan the area for that fiery red hair she adored. But @Sol wasn't around, and neither was @Frey Elzeiros. Truth be told, she didn't ponder their whereabouts for more than two seconds, but she still thought of them.

Before she logged off, Essence made a point to see @Lucy and @Avery Aphelion. She gave them both the same flustered expression and awkwardly sputtered: "I don't really think you're ugly! Let's forget it ever happened!"

The magia stumbled from the confines of mushroom that the MIT had been holed up in for the better part of the day. Stumbled wasn't an overstatement, and Tyr happened to look more worn than some of the Lion's Arms that had recently made it back from their conquest.

He had been "unvoluntarily" volunteered to help the studious types by the pure virtue of his appearance—the result of being one of the few magia in the company. They assumed he was a pragmatic, intelligent type; something further from the truth, and his hollow, alloy head pounded from the pain off too much thinking to try to understand what the field of mavens were theorizing.

With each step, his arms floated apart, losing form in weakness, for a brief moment before solidifying once more. Each stagger brought him closer to view of the one he was looking for—@Wolfe.

Spotting the tall figure from meters away, he trotted over before stumbling before him.

"Bruh, that shit got me tight. I can't believe—"

he started before his eyes fixated on a duo of injured men that walked behind Wolfe in the other direction.

"Exposed lacerations on the calf and thigh region, two centimeters shy of the femoral artery. Step distance indicative of severe bruising, and potential abdominal injury. The right individual possesses sluggish movements, but a heavier armament."

He snapped out of the quirk enforced upon him, being reminded of his lack of commitment to the roleplay momentarily.

"I meant—how fair the tribulations on your end... good... comrade."

He had obvious work to do in order to be more acclimated to this game.

The fever pitch of battle ached his bones and rattled his core so much that he couldn't belief that a brief moment of respite lodged itself within their symphony of chaos. In the prior storm of chaos, the fever forced several bladed swings with tears trailing as he fell in a midst of sadness that rolled into disgust. The Ape's effect involuntarily seized his movement several times as he sturdied his hand and reflected at the lapses of blood that stained him in particular. It seemed with every conflicting act, the pit in his stomach doubled and as a result he longed for an end. An end away from the chaos. An end that had been lifted by the effects of the mist that doused the site.

With temporary relief, Wolfe was able to center himself and return to his normal self. The seeds planted before stopped their unruly rooting and before he could analyze himself further, a man of blonde waltzed to his ear.

"Weary isn't the word for this." he uttered with a hoarse voice and legs that urged him to sit. He had heard the call to log off from before, but reasoned that he didn't want to miss out on anything grand. "I reckon'd that you'd be long gone. With the warning from before, I'll admit that it's nice to see a recognizable face."

Cycle 8
Your Death March in April

This thread is now marked as [18+] for explicit gore and disturbing content. Proceed at your own risk.

Between Kiryuu's leaving, an announcement from a battle-worn Levi, and the expeditionaires frantically searching for their friends, the entire camp exploded with activity. With each passing minute, the number of players began to thin out—that which was Levi's ideal scenario had become Childress' fear. She lived in a completely different world from that of Travelers', one full of beauty, wonder, and unimaginable cruelty, one where she couldn't simply log out when things get tough.

Childress sighed. The pearly ivory vow hanging about her neck felt a lot heavier that night, carrying the deaths of those under her charge and that of the exploration party. She wished she had the freedom afforded to Kiryuu and the other Starcalled. However, someone had to make the hard decisions, to bear the weight of their unrealized dreams and an unfulfilled promise of a better future.

Childress clutched her whistle tightly and raised it to her mouth before she passed a low-pitched and mournful call through her piece, signaling the beginning of the death march. There were calls for landers who couldn't be revived to stay behind. She found the concept utterly ridiculous. A Whistle always stays with her company when death has set his eyes on her. If Urukkhan found her this time, she would answer death's call with a sword through his smug face. It's only fair, right?

When it was time to head out, if your awareness is 40+, Misha from the Lions would have asked you to work with other guides to escort what's left of the expedition toward the Kurungaar Mother by following the markers Kiryuu had left behind.

The trip that followed took you through the twisting and winding of the weaves and knee-deep mud fields as the midnight sprinkling of rain raced the beads of sweat down your face. Your path put you on a cross-path through some of the wonders the explorers had treaded, but you had neither daylight nor the time to admire them.

After an undisclosed amount of time, you finally reached the last of Kiryuu's markers, which was at the border of the Tangleweaves, from which a sharp transition between elevations stopped you midtrack. You had arrived at the edge of a massive crater that dipped downward in an inverted cone with giant rocks, roots, and other natural obstacles that peppered the slope. At the center of this conal recess was the corpse the supposed demon corpse kneeling on one knee. Everything up from the waist of the vaguely humanoid form had been stripped clean of flesh. Its gargantuan horned skull was propped up by a thick, spiky spine connecting the exposed skeletal structure to the bottom half, where only some flesh and stringy gray tendons clung to the decayed frame. If you looked hard enough, you might have been able to make out remnants of the demon's ruby-red skin that had not been claimed by decomposition.

Even without magical sensitivity, you would have been debilitated by the visible vortex of magical energy emitting from the corpse. For those of you with any sort of magical sensitivity, you would have been able to feel the magical light burning a hole in your eyes, a viscous pungence that tickled the back of your throat, an overwhelming rot stink, and needled-pricking on your skin regardless of how far away from the demon you might have been.

The more observant of you would have seen Kiryuu sprinting toward the writhing mass of insects beelining toward the demon corpse while a Magia chased after him. The closer to the tainted carcass the giant crawling insect got, the more erratic its flying kin became. At a certain point, the swarm of fliers between the Mother's back folds spewed out like locusts above their carrier. Some of them splatted themselves on the rocky hindrances. Some attacked themselves while others ripped off their own head then the Red Fever rage hit.

Finally, with the flying swarm repositioning itself, you could see the missing explorers trapped inside one of the folds on the back of the carrier.

Shit. Something that big shouldn't have been able to get here this quickly… Shit!

When she noticed the swarm's strange behavior and their carrier's heavily damaged lower half, everything instantly clicked in her head. The Kurungaar Mother had probably reached a point where it no longer cared about self-preservation and had become a puppet dancing to the fever's tune.

Childress blew her whistle to beckon the group's attention. Kiryuu, who was fighting off the vicious flying insects, heard the call and looked up and frantically waved at the rest of the group.

Before any calls was made, the massive crawler managed to close the distance between itself and the demon's corpse. Then, without wasting a second, the insect lunged at the corpse and began devouring the corpse, gnashing the bones and slurping up the flesh.

Seconds after the Kurungaar Mother did, the horns from the demon's skull burst out of the insect's head. It didn't take very long before the insect's head began enlarging itself like a balloon until it exploded, splattering a cyan liquid everywhere as a wave of magical energy passed over the expedition, throwing those who could not withstand the supernatural force to the ground (flavor: make a Save (Will – DC 65) or be knocked down). The detonated crawler stood utterly still for a few seconds afterward as if death had taken hold of it. However, it wasn't long before life returned to its ligament as it pointed its still-intact mouth flaps to the sky and let out a horrifying screech.

HEY! GET IN POSITION NOW!

(She shouted.)

YOU LOT, WITH ME. YOU LOT OVER THERE, ON LEVI AND MISHA. YOU LOT BACK THERE, ON CHAD AND TREVIS, STICK TOGETHER WITH YOUR SQUAD AND GET DOWN THERE. WE CAN'T RETREAT NOW GET TO WORK BEFORE IT STARTS ATTACKING!

Meanwhile… for those of you who has been captured by the Kurungaar Mother, you were unable to escape the fate that had completely and utterly crushed the brightest smiles among you (@Kamala Graham). When the Kurungaar devoured the demon corpse, you had the front row seat to yourselves as you watched the explosion up close. The intensity of the magic felt as if your entire being was like a completed jigsaw puzzle being thrown on the floor, once it was broken, it was going to take a lot of time to put it back together.

Critical Failure
1
[ The Narrator has redeemed an unclaimed nat-1 from Cycle-2 rolled by Lucy. ]

As if fate had come back to claim its due, one of you had been chosen (1d15 (1) = 1 @Shane). The moment you felt yourself skipping the 7th, 8th, and 9th stack of Red Fever and gained the Red Fever (10) condition, you feel every cell in your body screaming as the demonic magic welled up inside you. Others may not be aware, but it had become evidently clear to you that fate had given you a role on the big stage. Your body began to engorge starting from your toes. The magic was forcing your cells to divide ad infinitum as your health began to tick down toward zero, to almost everyone there except yourself.

The moment the magic inside you ruptures, it won't discriminate against friends or foes, but could this be a blessing in disguise? Only you can make the final decision: will you stay or will you go?

Kurungaar Mother
Demon-ruined Insect Matron

❰ 1000 / 1000 ❱
❰ 14000 / 27000 ❱

Status:
  • [ENRAGED]. Warning, the enemy is enraged, high damage incoming.
  • Stability: Kurungaar Mother is charging up a special attack
    1. If the SP is 500-1000 during the C8 damage phase (C8.5), the full special attack will trigger
    2. If the SP is at 500 or less, the special attack will be a weaker version
    3. If the SP is at 0, the special attack will be successfully disrupted
  • If SP is not cleared by Cycle 9, the weakened ability will activate again regardless of whether the Kurungaar Mother is dead or alive.
  • HP and SP for this enemy count down.

Encounter State

  • If the Kurungaar Mother is not defeated by cycle 9, she will deal damage during 9.5. If you are still alive then, you may take whomever is alive and make a run for it. There is no automatic TPK.
  • All rolls (except actions such as Haste) are given a +10 bonus from the MIT's exceeding their goal at the R&D of Serenity Mist.
  • All special actions and armor abilities have been unlocked.
  • Surge and Twice work on all objectives (combat, rescue, prep)
  • NPCs will help as much as they are able.

Combat Objectives

Kurungaar Mother is massive, as such, the battle is divided into smaller skirmishes focusing on specific areas of its body.

Face
  • Childress is leading this charge, covering for people attacking with her, and throwing people out of danger with her Beastlord stand.
  • Requirement: Movement 3+ or Extension is required to target this part since it is out of reach.
  • Your attack deals an extra 20 damage before multipliers.
  • Damage: Take 40 damage from retaliation due to the high level of attention you are gathering.
  • Add | Face Tanking at the very end of your roll code.
Legs
  • The legs are highly damaged, joining this team led by Levi and Misha will allow you to lower the SP by 10 with each attack after multipliers. This dynamic duo are highly organized and offer a lot of leadership if you are able to stay within their range Lions training pays off. Just make sure to dodge the enemy's erratic movement and don't get crushed.
  • Damage: Take 35 damage from retaliation.
  • Add | Legs at the very end of your roll code.
Body
  • The attack on the body is led by Chad and Trevis, who are likely running around screaming as the swarm of Fever Fliers are eating their flesh AND yours. Trevis is under-performing because of his lack of emotional support. Chad is doing what he can to cheer him up.
  • Damage: Take 30 damage from retaliation from the Fever Fliers
  • Add | Body at the very end of your roll code.
Taunt:
  • Kurungaar Mother will attack three of the highest priority targets in C8.5 unless 3 taunts (DC 65) attempts are successful against her.
  • You may target any of the area above.
  • Twice does not count as 2 Taunts, meeting the Taunting Check requires 3 characters.
Support:
  • You may follow any of the tank or DPS into battle, but regardless of which area you go toward, all of your supportive actions will have a flat retaliation damage.
  • Damage: Take 25 damage from retaliation from any of the threats that narratively apply to you.

Bonus Objectives

Battlefield Prep
  • Nin, Elynn, and other MIT members are frantically trying to build cannons that can blast Serenity Mist bombs at the enemy and signal call in more reinforcements in Cycle 9. Will you help them?
  • Damage: Take 25 damage from the flying insects bugging you while you help.
  • Make an Expertise Contribution Check (000/400 - knowledge gets an advantage).
  • Each 100 in this contribution track will determine how many or how effective the weaponized Serenity Mist will be or how many reinforcements you can call in.
  • Add | Prep at the very end of your roll code.
Rescue
  • Kiryuu is trying to assemble a team to go in and rescue the explorers from inside the Kurungaar Mother. His special ability is Fate Chain, where he can link himself to allies when they share a bond. In this case, it would be the desire to brave death to rescue the explorers.
  • Completed: You may flavor yourself having gone on the rescue mission in your post without mechanically performing this action.
  • Damage: Take 25 damage from the flying insects bugging you while you help.
  • Make a Mastery Contribution Check (Any - 000/300) to get close to the Kurungaar Mother, climb her, battle the Fever Fliers and get them out of danger.
  • Bonus: Kiryuu's inspiring words and Fate Chain grants you +20 while tagging at least one other rescuer will grant you another +10. Total bonus: +40 (+20 from Kiryuu, +10 from tagging, +10 from Serenity Mist)
  • If you have a bonus action that allows you to reposition others, you gain an extra +20 to your roll.
  • Interact with them in your post.
  • Reaching 300 will free all of the captured explorers who are still alive (@Shane @The Guy @Thousand Swords @Crimson Ruby @Herculean Drakecon @Jin @Sol @Yugam @Laylabelle @Cain Darlite @Gideon @Seigi Ling Ling @Alkaid Zexis @Gwyn ap Herne @Rook the Quick @Frey Elzeiros)
Rescuees
  • You cannot take your turn until the rescuers have succeeded at their mission. After which, you may:
    1. Join the battle with a new battle sheet and +10 HP from Serenity Mist. You may perform any action in C8. Since you are already on top of the enemy, you may target the face without needing 3+ movements
    2. Get escorted to safety and exit the thread (no post necessary)
Special Nat-1 Event
  • @Shane: You had been selected to be the recipient of the demonic magic when the Kurungaar Mother's head exploded.
  • Your roll has qualified you for the next step.
    • Stay: If you choose to stay inside Kurungaar Mother until the end (C9.5) you will combust from Super-charged Red Fever (10), dealing 49d100 damage to it. However, your body will disintegrate along with anyone who ends their turn by your side, revive will not be possible at that level of damage.
    • Go: If you choose to go, there may yet be a chance your condition could be undone.
  • Tag @Asch to make a decision in your post.

Red Fever (6)
Red Fever effects temporarily nullified
-40 HP from Face Tanking
Vulnerable
Protected by @Brutus Dahlgren

Zelrius was ready at the moment of departure, following the swift tracking of the enemy creature in question. They were upon it soon enough the following day. The blonde adventurer was ready. For a moment, he faultered. For some reason @Ilya had come to him for the emotional hug the two had. He had strangely walked away and ignored @Avery Aphelion, lost in his own thoughts. Something he'd need to apologize for later. For some reason higher tiered adventurers with far more strength than him like @Brutus Dahlgren and @Toko had put their faith in him. @Fiora Di Angelo Even going so far as to gently wish him luck, their budding friendship was as confusing as it was something that the man had wished for. And all of this caused doubt. He had looked at their faces, searching for any hint of smarmy smile, or overexaggerated kindness. Were they laughing at him? Doubting him? Mocking him?

Surely not, right? His eyes welled up. He was gold ranked, but he wasn't one of them. @Vina Skysong was closer to that circle than he would ever be. Someone that had started the game long after himself, and easily exceeded. Atleast there was @Ueno Mizuki, his long time friend. Who, despite all his personal doubts about himself, never seemed the type to laugh behind his back. Someone who was always there, in the thick of battle.

This feeling sucked. Why did he let them get to him? His mind spiraling into a dark pit of doubt and hesitation. His mind envisioning a white room, where he stood alone staring ahead, while the faces of a hundred others trudged by with ease. But his legs just wouldn't move. His lip curled, fighting back the tears. Held back only by the budding anticipation. By the way his hands shook as they drew his swords. Childress's plan be damned. Those people weren't doubting him. They were here with him. It was time to stop standing still. He'd blow them all away. Prove to himself, and to all sources of doubt - internal and external - that he was on their level in this game.

In a flash, his form erupted into smoldering flames, blasting him forward to the face of the monster. Now, a mere few inches away, he disappeared. Engulfed in a shimmering pillar of heat and fire. "BURN!" He commanded the Mother insect. Letting his own body be the epicenter of a raging tower of fire that expanded outward in a circle, blue eyes staring directly into the creature's own as a way of testing it. Death was the last thing on his mind. Moving forward, was all that really mattered anymore. Getting swept with the actual crowd.

When the time had come to march on, Hanno found himself helping to guide their way to the Kurungaar Mother. The beauties and wonders of the path would usually catch his attention, but his mind was set only on his friend that was in danger, stuck in a place where she was left in the hands of fate.

Blinking, Hanno spotted Kiryuu, having the urge to chase him as well in a moment of a hurry, noticing the magical light invading his eyes in a scorching manner, with his teeth gritting as he pushed forward until the so-spoken of swarm erupted.

Hanno covered his face for a moment, but as soon as he could spot the explorers, he widened his eyes seeing their dire situation.

It was even worse than he thought, he needed to save them, he needed-

So focused on his friends, Hanno didn't notice the incoming shockwave, sending him straight to the ground as he felt his head throbbing with a hit on it. For a moment, his vision blurred, but soon he stood. He couldn't waste time falling and falling. His friend needed him, and he didn't have the intention to fail.

Not now-

He cast a glance at @Corsair, getting on his feet and soon speaking. "Buddy, I will go for the explorers. I will come back soon, I promise-!" Hanno said, soon blasting off toward them, finding himself venturing into the depths of that massive being, clashing against a wall of insects that tried to stop the rescue team.

His face would turn to @Bradwynne, midway and nodding forward. "One day inside eldritch abominations, other day inside of weird insectoids, buddy- The life in this game is way too crazy-" He huffed, charging further.

As he got close enough to see some faces, he gritted his teeth seeing Laylabelle between them... But it wasn't just her. Some other familiar faces were there. Rook, the one he fought with once before, and even a girl that looked very familiar (@Seigi Ling Ling). All of this while the swarm continued to sink its bites on his body.

Hanno shook his head, it wasn't time to stagger. It was time to act.

"Ghast, it is full protection now!" He roared, slamming his fist against the shield that rumbled, widening its eyes while a force field expanded around Hanno as he pushed through the swarm, annoyingly bouncing of his shield and his force field.

As soon as he neared @Laylabelle, he tried to offer her a faint smile. "Come on, buddy. This isn't the nice place you wanted to build." He said, supporting her if needed while he then moved closer to @Rook the Quick. "You too, come quickly, like you always are!" Hanno called him, also offering a friendly shoulder and support if he wanted. They had to hurry.

Hanno glanced around, seeing the many others that still needed to be saved. But it was fine. Bradwynne was there... Many others were there... He wasn't doing it alone.

Faced with the sheer power emanating from the mother,

She stood her goddamn ground, pardner.

Ain’t no fucking bug staying between her and her goal. Deep down she knew that all her bravado was selfish, and just a way to soothe scars of the past. Regardless, the wish to save someone important from peril was genuine. Sky blue orbs glanced about the teams assembling, until they landed upon Kiryuu. Judging by his stance on decision matters some hours ago, she guessed what the man had in mind for this fight.

Lead the way, whistleman!

Past the swarms of bugs and amidst other travelers, the goldilocks ran faster than she had ever done so before in her life. Was it fear that coursed in her veins? Perhaps some sort of cocktail mixed out of it, adrenaline, and whatever else the nerds at the MIT had managed to come up with. Either way, the elf darted her way to the mother, having a bit more ease on climbing up thanks to her mastery choices.

‘EY YOU! (@Nai) @Ru Ning!’ She extended her hands to both of them from above to help them climb up. ‘Git movin’ up already! Gogogo!’ As she waited for the other, some of the bugs took advantage of her lowered guard and tore at her back.

No problem. She could deal with the pain.

It was a small price to pay; she wasn’t about to lose someone again.

Afterward, she’d wave her guns around in order to keep the bugs away as she looked for anyone to save, but more specifically, @Gwyn ap Herne. The blonde hair. Adorned by both crimson clothes and insect bite wounds. There was no mistaking it, and the gunslinger rushed to help. Bonnie pulled the hunter out, giving her a few (not so light) taps to the face as she did so. The gunslinger knew she could take it.

‘Wake the fuck up, huntress! It ain’t time to kick the bucket just fuckin’ yet! Ain’t you the one supposed to be doin’ the huntin’?!’ she shook Gwyn, while swatting away any of the bugs pestering her, ‘Hurry or we’re bug food!’

As soon as she had received some sort of feedback from her mentor, she’d furiously glance around. No time to waste, hurry, hurry, more red, more colors, red hair, cat ears —

'@Crimson Ruby! @Sol ! she tried her best to follow the chains and shoot the insects out of the way, particularly a large one approaching the two of them. ‘Nap time’s over! It’s way past high noon, wake up!’

Ru! Guide 'em out! I'll cover y'all!'
As soon as they were ready to move out, Bonnie at long last began pulling the trigger. Thunder erupted and her bullets danced along insectoid innards across the air, clearing the path for Ru and the three rescuees.

She drew in a breath.

She drew out a breath.

The serenity stilled the fever, and her meditations did the rest. The rhythm of her body, the pulse of her veins. Nature, corroded around her, and the beast that was the Kurungaar Mother, surging forth to devour the skeletal thing that exuded such awesome, such disturbed, power. Others cried out, the leader of the Explorers cursed, panicked. They knew something was wrong, and they knew something was terrible. But Nai…

…Nai knew nothing.

Not of corpse-eaters and horned devils, not of magic or of demonic might. Everything was out of the ordinary, and so, everything became ordinary. She steeled herself against it all, watched the skull of the broodmother burst out with the horns of the devil, and bared her teeth. Those horns. They were similar to hers.

“Bad taste.”

A shockwave erupted from the impure union, but Nai was already running, flaxen hair streaming back, the very fat of her face rippling away from the force that pushed against her. If it was a matter of strength, she was lost, but in a contest of will alone, she surpassed! Her horns pushed through the wind, breaking it for @Hanno Futaba as she charged ahead. Retrospect made her a fool, going past the shieldbearer, but as far as Nai was concerned, she wanted to be in and out before the insect got used to its new body.

"Thanks!" A simple nod, and the promise of a favor repaid.

Nai flicked her wrists, twinned kamas springing out as she leapt off @Bonnie Bonbon and jammed the kamas into chitinous plating. Too tough to pierce, but sharp enough to hold. The flies would have to be ignored, but thankfully, sensory detail could be withstood so long as pain nullification was up. Her hands grew sticky, her eyes stung from sweat, and she felt so, so, so slow compared to the catboy (@Zelrius ) that rocketed up on a pyromantic eruption, but they had different jobs.

And from the gap where her suit jacket met her back, a length of chain, too weak to bind a beast but sufficient for holding weight, was snaking down and down and down, secured by nails jammed deep. For those behind her to climb up with (@Ru Ning @Bradwynne ). For those above her to climb down with. And when Nai looked below her, a grim satisfaction surfaced, seeing the heights she had reached.

Momentary joys. She hammered the final nail, and with a disgust that was purely her own, pushed in.

Fucking filth.

Blood, some drawn from the lesser beasts and others caused by self-afflicted wounds, oozed out everywhere, coating the air so thickly that it coated her tongue. She wrinkled her nose, eyes flicking from one to another. Triage demanded that those who could help themselves should, while those who were beyond saving were abandoned. Of those truly mangled but still breathing though…

A manicly sobbing boy (@Yugam ). She suppressed the urge to click her tongue, grabbing him up by the collar instead. “It’s safe now.” Empty reassurances, but they were free, and maybe even truthful. “You’re not dead, so help me get this big lug outta here.”

She gestured vaguely towards the mangled mountain of a beastkin (@Herculean Drakecon ), easily the most injured one in here and probably the one that would benefit most from an evacuation, and then jammed a vial into the boy’s mouth. Serenity Mist. Rescuers didn’t go up without it.

“Now get to it.”

Wasn't like she was strong enough to lift that guy up anyways. For someone of her stature, a lithe woman who was futilely discharging magic (@Alkaid Zexis )was the better bet. Another potion out from her sleeves, another glance cast over her shoulders, and another 50 ml of Serenity into a lunatic's mouth. Nai didn't even wait for the potion to take effect before hoisting the woman up from her shoulder, making for the exit.

"C'mon miss. Walk with me and we'll get you out pronto."

She hoped they would get out. No one here, except for some real nutjobs, looked like they oughta fight anymore.

Kaede WANTED to go home, Hell she already had all her things gathered up when shit hit the fan yet again and only drew a heavy sigh from the elf. Fate would see to it she never got to retire it seemed as the area became a warzone. Waving Totetsu to go back into hiding as she grumbled and decided if she was going to help it would be purely support like she had been thus far. Hands reaching out in either direction as she went all out.

"Dance for me thy mistress of time, Sing my song as one of your own. Seek out those I desire and hasten their efforts, Track those I despise and slow thy notions. Bring about this I ask, and take your time from this life as payment!"

Slowly drifting upward as Kaede tried her best to get a view of everything, not exactly expecting or desiring Totetsu to rush under and grow in size to give her the needed vantage point to cast the wide spread AoE spell that took more then a few minutes of her total life to cast. Eyes darting between people, Speeding them up as clocks appeared and spun rapidly allowing them to do more in short frames of time. Hands snapping to point at fliers to slow them down.

"Turnback, the effects you wrought on those before. Shift the scales in our favor, this we ask of you Mistress over time. Break, the rules at my heed of this "WE DEMAND!"

Kaede's full magic breaking out as her form shifted into it's corrupt shape. She would deal with the backlash later as she needed everything she had to keep the spell from killing her outright. Hands grabbing fever fliers without care for the harm she took to drain the life from them to keep the spell working for as long as she could. Eyes shifting across the battlefield taking in all the carnage and madness drawing back the twisted smile she hated most.

"Show us more destruction, seek the future for it bares countless. Look beyond the hourglass at the unfathomed opus of time and space as it devours and breaks you into nothing!~ CHRONO-LIMITUS!"

❰ Chrono-limitus ❱

Hands reaching outward fully as the large clock chimed and the magic took effect in the area. Sure it was not likely as grand as it looked, but the main idea was the façade it held on others. Ensuring them there was greater forces aiding them then attacking them. Either way as Kaede fell to the ground she would stagger back to her feet and go help set up the cannons for now. She likely ate a good year or four off her life with the spell but time she would give again and again to help others.

The horde of armed and armored warriors rushed in against the swollen queen, weapons cracking against chitin in a crass and bloody battle that filled the air with metal, blood, fever, and swarms of festering flies.

Corsair moved back.

She wasn't afraid. Au contraire! She was smart.

And so she beat a tactical retreat to the MIT encampment, where Nin, Elynn, and several of the other, brainier, brawlers were hard at work on Plan C: Cannons.

She picked the nearest group and joined them in their building. The base of the weapon was already taking shape; a stand with feet driven deep into the rank ground, stable enough to withstand the kickback of their ordinance. Corsair was no master of firing systems, so she focused on the barrel of the beast. A meters-long tube devoid of any of the necessary features. It was little more than a big, metal pipe. A perfect, clean slate.

"Fujitsu, get inside and seal any cracks," she said stuffing her magitech spider into the barrel. She could hear his legs skittering against the metallic tubing as he sought out and blocked off any tiny imperfections in the fledgling weapon. "Now thin the tubing at the end. We want it to taper."

She pulled a frog out of her pocket and set it on top of some nearby crates. "Sam, you take out any of the fliers that get too close." Her frog magitech was happy to oblige, and it struck at the fizzing flies with its gleaming black tongue, keeping the work-space clear for the other MIT members.

And I'll do that I do best, Corsair thought, taking off her backpack and dumping the contents on the ground beside the massive cannon. There were all manner of components, magical and mechanical. Everything necessary to make some serious improvements to this thing.

She called over John, her magitech deer, and hung up her empty backpack and a few of her tool belts on his antlers, within easy reach.

She unscrewed one of her fingers and replaced it with a finger-shaped welding torch, sending up azure sparks as she augmented the cannon to look more and more like the head of a giant snake.

As the design took shape she added crucial features: a padded slip-feed so that the vials wouldn't break on loading, and a pair of emerald green laser sights, one set in each of the snake's eyes.

"Fujitsu, come here," Corsair ordered, and as the spider returned she pulled out its trapped wolf spirit, feeding it into a small container set into the side of the cannon.

The weapon came alive, a chimera with the head of a snake, a spirit of a vengeful wolf, and a body made for launching heavy artillery.

She was beautiful.

The veins of humming magic pulsed along her body, circuitry powered by the hunger of the spirit in the machine. She could almost hear it baying for the blood of its foes.

Corsair's mask of frigid focus cracked, and she grinned wickedly. "Cannon ready!" she called to the MIT leaders. "Now let's hear this wolf howl."

As soon as Darko arrived at the area, an intense flood of sensations overwhelmed him. The scents, the scenery, the incoming magical aberrations that almost swept him under his feet, and the intense tingling on his skin. Everything had come down to him as well as the others, but while others would feel dread, Darko only responded to these with a smile so creepy even the demons would run away seeing his face at the moment. At last. At long last. This was the adventure he was waiting for. He was waiting for this moment to come, and only the gods could stop him from doing what he had always wanted in this life.

Instantly drawing his revolver, he had sized up the massive foe that was before him. This was once an overgrown insect, but after feasting on that demon's flesh that was in that area for some reason, it became a really powerful being. But he knew that the transformation might have not yet been completed, seeing that it had gone over a drastic change as it burst its own head and regrown another one, nor will he intend to let it grow to its full potential. He then closed in his aim towards the face of the insect, and then, charging up a huge amount of Dark Magic on his gun, he then pulled the trigger repeatedly, shifting his aim every after shooting, aiming at the eyes of the abominable insect. He shot a total of sixteen times, before pausing to reload his weapon. But as he was doing that, a massive spit of acid came hurtling down on him. Darko attempted to dodge sideways to the right, but the spit had reached his left shoulder and arm, severely burning his coat and the skin underneath, so much that he also felt his bones melting from the acid. Gnashing his teeth as he then continued reloading with his only functioning arm, he swore under his breath that he will get the last laugh over this creature.

"... So you're the big ugly sucker behind this huh?"

Sarina came running full speed past others in battle. Her staff in both hands. Her steel Twiggrasil. Yeah that was the name her friend gave it. It was good, it kept Apes going straight down and the Mojo going straight to the moon. It was one useful mistake. Sarina smirked as she wads through the mess of bugs and allies. Well whaddya know... she caught up to him after all. This time he was occupied by bug legs and looked a little unsettled.

C'mon it's bugs. Nasty little assholes but Sarina wasn't going to let herself be scared by them. Maybe in real life.. but not here. This was it!

"COME ON! GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS?!!!"

Adrenaline was a go.

She didn't have to worry about being nice, about going light on this one. Just 100% FULL POWER!

Swinging Twiggrasil with wild spins to the left and right she deflected hoards of Fever Fliers. Her stats were shit yeah. This thing just ate something that looked like it could kill her in one-shot no problem. Heck, this kaiju bug probably could one-shot her no problem. Now wasn't the time for hesitation. Her staff spun once before readying herself and bum-rushing to the leg closest to the ever-evasive redhead knight.

"Hi! You're a hard guy to catch aren't ya (Levi @Asch)? Shall we break a leg?!"

For such a honcho he seemed a bit less hot right now, to be honest, but whatever it was time.

What Time?

"I'LLL TELL YOU WHAT TIME IT IS!!!"

Her muscles tightened and nerves were finally being pushed the way she'd been waiting for by the constant attacks. This.. was more damaging than she thought but no way would she stop.

"TIME FOR SOME GODDAMN RAID!!!"

The time between driving off the King Ape and seeing the demon corpse was a red-colored smear in Janet's mind, as misty as the drug they'd sprayed in her face to cure her hysterical tears. Tsst. Like a badly-behaved cat. A cat who cried for witch commanders and dead monkeys and dead witches too, though now she processed her grief more quietly. Grimly.

She was quiet now as she rode to the edge of the Tangleweaves with the others, a group of players formed from every faction to fight this last enemy.

What are they feeling? Janet wondered. Excitement? Dread?

She and they could log out right now, and yet they didn't. What kept them here? What purpose? Was it just mastery, beating up on a boss and getting to show off their abilities? Was it determination, knowing people were trapped inside that insect-thing? Was it social responsibility, wondering what people would say if they chickened out now? Or was it just a fear of missing out, of looking back on this moment and wondering what might have happened if they stayed?

...Janet didn't want to die. But in a world where so many others had fallen in the four years lost between, the survivor's guilt was very real.

She tapped her mount's flanks with her heels, lowered her head, and prepared to charge.

She was not alone. Like the first stomach-spiraling drop of roller coaster ride, they poured down the embankment towards the Kurungaar Mother, a thunder of hooves and Dynamism-enhanced feet and cries that all blended together. Janet followed, white-knuckling the reins, the world narrowing to tunnel-vision focus.

In that moment, it stopped being the old Terrasphere, it stopped being a fight for her life, and it became a race.

Investigation Mode tooltips blossomed like flowers in her focus as Janet rode determinedly towards the massive legs, tracking each erratic movement with mathematical precision. "Left!" she cried, hauling her mare to the side just in time to avoid one of the massive columns as it thundered down. Rebel snorted as she evaded the strike, tossing her head as Janet reached out and wrapped a vine around the creature's ankle.

They raced down the line towards the next leg, trailing vines and creepers behind them like a pennant of greenery as she sought out the next best place to tie the Matron's digits together. Rebel snorted vapor as they circled another leg like a barrel race, throwing another tight loop around its damaged joints.

The girl took one end of the vine in each hand, eyes hard and determined, the monster's enormous, quivering body swinging just overhead.

"And—pull!"

Muscles a housewife had no right to have surged with hidden strength, and Janet strained and spun the goliath legs together, as simple as braiding oak trees.

With his son friend @Hanno Futaba, Bradwynne had entered this area. In spite of the gruesome sight of the half-eaten kneeling demon, the tingling sensation of his skin, and the flashes of light and magical energy, only one thing kept him focused: the recovery of those people trapped in that area. Including her.

As Hanno then spotted something ahead and moved towards its direction, Bradwynne, trusting his friend's instincts, followed him, until he saw something hideous. To be sure, these were the people who traveled with the Explorer's League to find the source of the Red Fever. But their hideous and gruesome state had rendered him horrified.

"I... must... save them..." Bradwynne's feet then slowly inched towards them, but then, a powerful blast from that area had caught him unawares, as he then tumbled off his footing and was flown back by a meter before landing on the tainted ground. But this only heightened his resolve, as he then got up immediately. After responding to Hanno's reminiscences with, "Yeah, but it will end without any of us dying, I swear," he then, with a massive shout, summoned his "angelic companion" and then, imbuing himself with Divine Magic, then grew wings of light as the two then flew off towards the carrier at the massive insect's back.

As Bradwynne then arrived at the carrier, he then frantically searched for that person that he wanted to rescue before anything. But his eyes then rested on a very familiar person. Immediately, he then tore with his hands through every fascia, through every hindrance, to free her up from the prison that was set by those despicable insects. Turning towards the woman (@Seigi Ling Ling) he then said, "It is not your time to die, damn it! You still have many more souls to save, and more evil to punch away! For Magi Heart and Alphabet Chocolate's sake, I, That Armored Dude By The Doorstep, will not let you die here! Do you hear me?!" After whisking off Seigi towards his "companion" which then had her landed to safety, he then continued to search for the one that he wanted to rescue.

But it seemed that Fate had more plans for him, as his eyes rested upon yet another familiar person. But he seemed to be buried within the carrier, and so he then blasted carefully through it to reveal him, and then tore through every hindrance to free him up. He then addressed the person who he had rescued, @Cain Darlite, "And you! We still have a village to rejuvenate, and it had not yet even been taking off! I will not let you die until you see the fruits of your labor! Do you hear me?!" He then passed him over to his companion, which then landed him to where Seigi was.

At long last, he had spotted the person that he wanted to see. But unlike those who he had rescued who were still breathing albeit only barely, the one he was looking for was most likely long dead, her windpipe busted due to some attack, and her face contorted from extreme anger as her body was also torn to pieces by the insects and maggots that had infested her body. As he had found the body of that beastwoman, whose smile had warmed him up in Mersey Spring, Bradwynne felt an uncontrollable anger. His Divine Magic then leaked uncontrollably from his skin, emitting flashes of light all around. But it seemed that amongst all this, he was still oddly calm. Maybe those days of him dying due to uncontrollable anger had rendered him sober right now. Right now, he did not only want to be a hero. This time, he wanted to be a victor, the one who would be the last man standing between him and this abominable insect.

"Never more will my loved ones become the victim of this fucking insect any longer. I will fucking make sure that this fucking insect will be given a shitty end, damn it."
