"Wanna start with that?"
"Mhmm~"

A happy smile lined her lips as the girl hummed her approval, her eyes turning to look at the drinks menu before curiously peering at the options. There were a lot of them actually, more than what Valeria was used to seeing in the restaurants back in Michigan, and it caused her to frown lightly in thought as she gazed at the menu.

"Do you see any that would pair well with the yakitori, Ari?"

She couldn't help but raise her eyebrows lightly at the sweet potato shochu selection in the menu, the blonde pretty certain that she hadn't seen any of them before. A mental note was made of the plum wine & liquor section, before her gaze turned back to the menu as she tried to figure out appetizers... which were actually sorely lacking in availability, unless she counted all the other skewer options as such.

"We could try some of the other skewers too, like the ribs or duck meat ones... oh, they also have quail eggs."

A glance was given at the hearts and gizzards option, the lightest grimace crossing her face as Valeria weighted how adventurous she was feeling tonight... she had always been curious about those particular yakitori cuts, but now that the chance was present she wasn't sure.

The girl smiled at him as she hummed her agreement back, before picking up the other drinks menu, frowning momentarily. Her eyes flicked up to him, his own eyes still glued to the drinks menu as she asked him what he thought might pair well with the skewers.

Ari's eyes simply went wide before he blinked several times as he tried to take in all the variety of drinks, not to mention their detailed descriptions. "Fuck, I dunno, man," the man said with a slight chuckle. "But uh..." the man quickly rifled through the numerous pages of just drinks. 'For fuck's sake, how many different kinds of sake do they have here?' the man thought to himself as he tried to quickly skim over which ever ones' labels stuck out to him. "If you wanna try something kinda fruity, that isojiman sounds good. Oh, or that Gold Dragon, that sounds interesting too." The man browsed through the menu for a couple more moments before setting down the menu and deadpan staring at Valeria. "Or we just ask the waitress for a recc, 'cause, not gonna lie, I got no fucking clue what might be good," he said, softly chuckling towards the end.

His eyes widened slightly, several blinks given in her direction, before a curse followed by additional words tumbled from his lips. It caused Valeria to chuckle ever so slightly as she looked in his direction, feeling relieved that she wasn't the only one feeling absolutely clueless at the expansive selection of sake, shochu and wine that the restaurant offered.

"That makes two of us then~" Her eyes turned back onto the menu, giving a nod as she recognized one of the options Ari suggested. "Yeah, I've had the Gold Dragon before and it's pretty nice."

A lone option in the yamahai section caused the blonde to pause and look at it closely, intrigued by the description. "Hey Ari, what do you think about this one? The Tengumai, uuuh, the one from Ishikawa?" She thought better on trying to say its full name upon realizing what a mouthful it was, preferring to not butcher it up with terrible pronunciation, and instead leaning closer to point it out for Ari on his own menu.

"What's the worse that can happen, right? It's sake, I doubt it'd be undrinkable no matter what we pick."

"Mm, maybe maybe we get that then?" Ari said, nodding his head slightly as Val mentioned having tried the Gold Dragon before. Couldn't hurt to start with something at least one of them knew, right? Although, Valeria presented him with another option only a moment later. One that sounded equally good. "Butterscotch and walnuts..." the man quietly muttered to himself as he read the drink's description. "Oh, that sounds good too, actually," the man commented.

"What's the worse that can happen, right? It's sake, I doubt it'd be undrinkable no matter what we pick."

"Ah, fuck it you're right," the man agreed, setting the drinks menu down, figuring continued browsing would only make his life more difficult, not easier. "Besides, not every day we're in New York, right? Might as well try something completely new!"

Just as the man had finished speaking, their waitress came up to their table. "Sounds like you guys are still deciding, am I right? My name is Mikaela, and I'll be your server tonight. Would you like me to bring you some waters while you finish deciding?"

"Uh, actually, I think we're good to order, right?" the man replied, looking over to Val to confirm that they knew what they wanted to start with.

"Exaaactly," She chirruped in response. "It's not every day we get to try new things in New York, so we should make the best of it~"

It was then that their waitress stopped by their table, her eyes glancing from the blonde to the man and back as she gave them the option to think over their choices a bit longer if they needed to.

"Uh, actually, I think we're good to order, right?"

"Mhmm, we'll start off with an order of the ten skewers set picked by the chef," She waited a moment as the waitress bagan noting the order before continuing. "And for a drink we'll have the Tengumai."

A hand carefully tapped the correct selection from the drink menu, an attempt to save the waitress and herself the hassle of having to figure out which bottle the blonde was referring to if her pronunciation was absolute shit.

"Bottle or glass?"
"Uhmm... glass for now."

It felt like the safest option, that way if it turned out they didn't like the flavor the pair could always opt for a different sake on the next round instead of being stuck with a bottle. A glance was given towards Ari, hoping she hadn't missed or forgotten something in their order.

Ari leaned back in his seat as he allowed Valeria to order for them, listing off what it was that they had decided on, at least until the girl turned to look at him with a questioning look. "Uh, yeah, glasses. And can we also get a couple side bowls of like, plain rice?"

"Of course," the server said with a pleasant smile. "I'll bring you some water and those glasses of tengumai then." Within moments, the woman wandered off to go check in with another table, leaving the two twenty-somethings all by their lonesome again.

"Oh, one more thing!" Ari quickly said. "Would you mind if we hopped over to that corner booth over there?" he asked pointing to the table adjacent to them, tucked away quietly in the corner. The server let out a light chuckle, before nodding. "Not at all, go for it."

"Thanks," the man replied with a smile before shifting to the other table, and gesturing to Valeria follow.

"Seat's comfier," the man lied explained with a chuckle as he sank into the cushion and leaned forward slightly. "I'm excited, the menu made all that food look so fucking good. Especially those meat ones."

A nearby table had opened as the pair had been mulling over the menu and making their orders, another waitress having already removed the plates and wiped the surface clean for the next patrons that eventually found their way towards the restaurant. Their order was completed, at least for the time being, before Ari suddenly called out to the waitress one last time as he pointed to the now empty quarter booth besides them.

With permission granted the pair quickly shuffled over to their new seats before some new customer could claim it for themselves, a soft chuckle escaping the blonde as she schooched over closer to the man. "Yeah, cushioned seats are always better~" It also didn't hurt that this allowed them to sit closer to one another, something that would've been hard to do in the two chair table they'd been at before.

"I knooow...! Gosh all the pictures in the menu look sooo good, if it wasn't for the price—and the fact there's only so much I can eat—I'd be tempted to order it all."

Ari smiled as Valeria scooched over, closer to him, his knee playfully bumping hers. He was glad to be closer to her again, as insignificant as that might've seemed. His proximity to her made him feel warm. Comfortable. More so than he normally was, at least.

"For real," the man said with a light laugh. New York restaurant, next to a New York hotel meant New York prices. That fact wasn't exactly lost on Ari, but he was glad to spend the cash on the girl next him. After this week ended, who knew if they'd ever see each other again anyways. Ari was aware of himself enough to know that no matter how hard he might try, he was just god awful at keeping in touch with others. So he wanted to enjoy her presence while he could.

"Ya know, I'm surprised how down to earth Dayeon was," the man said, shifting the conversation to something other than food for once. "I mean, that was super chill of her to just hang out with a bunch of friends and stuff for the whole day. Think she and Naomi knew each other from before?" he asked, remembering how comfortable Naomi seemed to have been with the idol.

His knee bumped into her own, and the girl couldn't help but let out a soft giggle in response. A cheeky little grin remained on her lips as Valeria leaned closer, her shoulder bumping against his in return as if it was the most natural thing in the world. There was just something about him that kept drawing the blonde close, their energies easily melding to one another, and Valeria couldn't help but want more. It was a new sensation, and the blonde would be a liar if she said it didn't cause the heart in her chest to pound rapidly in response, but she refused to shy away from it just because it was an unknown experience.

"Mhmm, she's really something else..." Never in her dreams had the blonde expected to come across one of the summerfest singers just hiding in the crowd to enjoy the performance of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's Despacitwo—much less think the woman would've willingly spent a whole afternoon and evening with a random group of strangers that had clustered together. "I think that's really wonderful of her, especially considering what she does for a living."

Even the jacket had been a surprise for the blonde, a hand unconsciously raising to pat the green fabric on the right side where Dayeon had signed it for Valeria. "Oh absolutely, I bet they've known one another for a long time." After all the woman had seemed comfortable holding onto the idol and initiating contact on more than one occasion, actions with Dayeon hadn't seemed to mind in the slightest.

Those two must've been good friends for a while now, Valeria was almost sure of it.

"Gosh, for a Monday it really was super exciting... the rest of the week is gonna have to work hard to match up today's events, huh?"

"Oh yeah, I bet it's so easy for people to lose themselves with all the fame and money and stuff," the man said leaning towards her slightly, their shoulders pressing against each other's gently. "I guess you would probably have a better idea about that then I would though," the man said with a curious tone. She was a streamer. Big enough to make a living off of, so she must've had some amount of fame to her name. More than a hermit like Ari at the very least.

Ari let out a light laugh as the girl mentioned how good the first day of the Summerfest had gone. "Oh yeah, day one's set a pretty high bar for the rest of the fest," the man agreed as the server returned to them with their drinks.

The woman set down a couple of small wooden boxes in front of the two, sake glasses within before pouring in the sake, filling it past it's limit, allowing the overflow to fill the box too. "Thanks," the man said to the woman who smiled and nodded in return. "Anything else I can get you guys in the mean time?"

He leaned against her and the blonde couldn't help but reciprocate the action, resting her head against his shoulder now. "Yeah, it can be... oooof." She still remembered the earlier days when her stream, and more importantly her patreon, had begun to pop off.

"I had to set a lot of ground rules really fast before it all had a chance to snowball out of control," Thankfully the blonde had enough sense to quickly grasp the reigns before everything got too carried away and out of her control. "And, of course, be diligent in enforcing them... but eventually the community began to mesh well and keep itself in-check."

That had only been a small taste of fame, Valeria couldn't imagine how much worse Dayeon probably had it being such a famous singer and songwriter.

As the waitress returned the blonde would straighten herself back up, watching as the shot glasses were filled to the brim and then allowed to overflow with absolute fascination. "Thank you~ I think we're good for now... right?" Her attention turned back to Ari, wanting to ensure she hadn't missed anything.

Ari turned his head to look at Valeria as she told him about her experience with fame and fortune, smiling gently at her as she explained how it was only through quick, decisive action that she managed to get everything undercontrol.

"Well, it seems like you're doin' pretty well for yourself nowadays," the man said, his hand drifting over to hers and gently squeezing it. "I don't really get along with people who're full of themselves, so you're definitely doin' something right."

"Thank you~ I think we're good for now... right?" Valeria answered for them, to which Ari nodded. "Yeah, I think we're good."

"Great, your food will be out in a just a bit," the server said, before leaving the two once more.

Sitting up a little, Ari looked at the strange arrangement that the server had set down for them, both the glass and the box filled to the brim. "We should've asked how the fuck we're supposed to drink these things," the man said with a chuckle. "Uh, do we just...drink it like normal?" the man asked, casting Valeria an inquisitive look, hoping she had more insight into all this than he did.

She gave him a cheeky smile as the man praised her approach towards the situation, his hand reaching for her own before giving it a gentle squeeze. The touch felt nice, and before the blonde knew it she had interlaced her fingers with his own. A soft squeeze was given back, before she gave a nod towards the waitress who mentioned their food would be out in a short moment.

"Mmm... I don't think there's an etiquette for this?" She looked over at her shotglass and the little wooden box it rested in, the overpour quite generous by the looks of it, before she looked back at Ari and shrugged her shoulders ever so slightly. "Guess we just... go for it?"

She made sure to loosen the grip on his hand in case Ari wished to take it back, before her free hand reached over for her own shot glass. Carefully she tipped it just slightly, so that any extra liquid could poor into the box below and leveling the surface, before she brought it closer and waited for Ari to pick up his.

"Salud~"

Her slender fingers slipped easily between his, a gentle squeeze given in return before she loosened her grip to allow him to pick up his sake glass. "...Guess we just... go for it?..." she said as she reached for her own.

"Guess so," the man chuckled back. Instead of slipping hand from hers, Ari reached over with his other hand instead, picking up the glass from the little box filled full of sake, raising it to hers with a soft clinking sound. "Ya mas!" he cheered back.

Putting the small glass to his lips, the man took a small, experimental sip. It had a faint nutty flavor to it, followed by a pleasant sweetness that made Ari take another sip before setting the glass down, back in it's little box. "Wow, damn. That's pretty good," the man commented before looking over at Valeria to see her reaction to the drink.

It was hard to hide the smile on her face when Ari's hand remained tangled with her own, the edges of their glasses clinking together softly to avoid any unwanted spillage before each took an experimental sip or two. "Oh, that's super good!" The Tengumai was surprisingly accurate to its description, Valeria's eyes widening just slightly as she picked up the faint nutty notes hidden in the drink—but what really surprised her was the sweet aftertaste that followed.

Super dangerous, too...

Yeah, the way that sweetness helped to hide the burn of the alcohol was definitely a problem in the making if the blonde wasn't careful. A second sip was taken from the glass before Valeria finally settled it back down besides the little wooden box, turning to grin at Ari as she spoke.

"Pretty good for a random pick, mmm?"

Yu smiled and picked up his glass, taking another sip of the drink as Valeria also expressed her enjoyment of their choice. The cool liquid slid smoothly down his throat, not unlike the souju he so often drank. In fact, it was better than that. Which, to be fair, it better damn well be better for how much a bottle would cost them.

"Pretty good for a random pick, mmm?"

"Oh, fishing for compliments now, are we?" the man teased as he set the glass back down again, a warm sensation beginning to kindle in his body as the alcohol did it's thing. This was some powerful stuff apparently. "Yes, yes it is a very good pick," he assented the smile still on his face.

"Alright, so," the man said as he shifted slightly in his seat, leaning back into the cushioned booth, "I know you're from Puerto Rico, now in Michigan, I know your taste in music, I know what you do for a living, and I know you like to play games in your spare time," the man said, listing off one by one the things he'd learned about the girl since they'd met. "What's something I don't know? Like something you wouldn't normally tell someone," the man asked a mischievous smile on his face, figuring it was a good way to get to know the girl a bit more.

"Oh, fishing for compliments now, are we?"
"Maaaybeee~"

She couldn't help the soft giggles that left her lips, her hand giving his another light squeeze. "Un poquito na' más, it was mostly a lucky pick after all." The free hand had reached back for her shot, taking another sip while the man assented that the choice had, indeed, been a good one.

The glass remained in her hands as Ari's voice drew her attention once more, the blonde listening as he listed the various tidbits of information that she had already shared with him through the day. "Mmm yeah, that sounds about right so far." She couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of her lips, the knowledge that Ari was indeed paying attention to the things she told him givin the girl a sense of comfortness she hadn't expected.

"What's something I don't know?"
"Something you don't know, hmmm..."
"Like something you wouldn't normally tell someone."

For a moment she'd been thinking about simple extra tidbits of information like before, until the man added an addendum to his initial question. Well there's TerraSphere... but that's probably something I shouldn't mention. No need to bring up illegal games as a conversational topic the first day they met... but then what else could she pick—Ah...! Right, there was that thing she could share and it's not like he wouldn't find it eventually if Ari actually decided to tune into her streams anyways...

The sake glass was raised to her lips again, taking a longer sip compared to her previous ones, as she felt the tip of her ears begin to burn.

"I also do b-boudoir sessions..."

Ari chuckled as the girl implied that she was indeed fishing for compliments. "Well, you won't have to fish for very long," the man flirted lightly. It wasn't just a teasing lie though. Ari genuinely enjoyed the girl's company. She was interesting to talk to, and it seemed like they shared similar tastes.

Ari sipped at his drink, finishing the small glass off as Valeria thought about how to answer his question.

"I also do b-boudoir sessions..."

Ari gagged, almost choking on his drink before coughing and setting his glass down, looking at Valeria with a surprised look. The man took a couple moments to drink some water and ensure he wasn't dying before looking over at Val again, the same look of surprise still on his face. "Really?" The man paused long enough to wrap his head around that fact and pull his head out of the gutter, before continuing. "Damn, well ok. I dunno how I'm gonna beat that," he joked, trying to cover up his initial surprise. "That kinda stuff must pay hella good." The man stopped himself from proceeding any further with that thought, not wanting to put his foot in his mouth before he could actually blame it on the alcohol.

She answered and the man proceeded to almost choke on his drink as a result, the surprised look on his face making the blonde finish off the rest of the sake on her own glass before she set it on the table. "Y-Yeah..." A hand reached over for the wooden box that her glass had come on, carefully tilting it by one of the corners to pour the liquid onto the glass and watching as it filled up once more.

Not bad, two shots for the price of one.

"Damn, well ok. I dunno how I'm gonna beat that."
"O-Oh, I didn't know we were having a contest~?"

Valeria had responded without thinking much about the words, finding it easier to get over some of her nervousness if she shifted their conversation into a little game of sorts... she did have a pretty big competitive streak. "Yeah, it's not a bad gig... plus I was going to make the cosplay outfits anyways, so they might as well pay for themselves." After all it could be a pretty expensive hobby, especially with the level of attention to details that the blonde invested into every one of her costumes.

"Alright Ari, it's your turn now... though I'm sure you already know the question that I'm gonna ask, mmm~?"

Fair was fair, after all, and she was interested in getting to know more about the man...

Noticing how Valeria had tipped the remaining sake in the little boxes they'd been served in into her empty glass, Ari picked up his own box and did the same. "I mean, it can be, I guess," the man said in a joking manner before he suddenly had a thought. "Actually," the man said, donning a mischievous grin. "Why don't we actually make it into a contest. We ask each other questions, tell a story or whatever, we pick who's answer was better. Loser has to take a drink." Because who didn't love drinking games?

"Yeah, it's not a bad gig... plus I was going to make the cosplay outfits anyways, so they might as well pay for themselves," the girl said, before Ari couldn't help but chuckle. "Wait, you didn't wanna start with the cosplay?" he laughed. "You went straight to boudoir?"

And then it was Ari's turn to answer. The man groaned as he sank back into the booth, trying to think of literally anything that could possibly compare to Valeria's own answer. "Fuck, uh...Okay, so I have a little sister, right? Like really little compared to me, I'm like eight years older than her. And when she was still like a toddler, she liked to play dress-up. With her big brother. Which mean stealing dresses and shit out of our mom's closet and making me wear them, and caking my face in shitty make-up. And I swear to god, I looked like a a clown's reject sister," the man laughed, suddenly very glad that he still had those memories. Maybe not all things were lost.
