Mizuki gritted her fangs as she was entirely focused on manipulating and growing the sanguine roots, feeling the weight of the earth above their heads threatening to come crashing down even as she did her best to keep the tunnel from collapsing while keeping the metallic assailant exposed. Fortunately, Cleo and Magi managed to make use of the opportunity to damage the monster enough to make it exhaust itself in a desperate attempt to take down the bloodwurm, even if it meant that Mizuki received some more bruises as the bloodwurm thrashed around in response to having its entire lower half forcibly removed.

The rest of the trip went without incident, allowing Mizuki to relax and draw in some of the blood that trailed behind them to wet her throat. The bloodwurm itself looked like it wasn't going to last much longer, but thankfully it lasted long enough to bring them to their goal: the palace in the middle of Vintergard.

The lobby of the palace did bring some memories back for the luna wolf, but enough time had passed that it was a mere nostalgic feeling, especially since Mizuki hadn't spent much time in here even back then. What was more important were the things that were different: the giant robotic entity in the middle of the lobby, seemingly unmoving even as the glowing head indicated that it was still... not alive, but animate. And then there was a... person? The luna wolf frowned as she spotted the other caenis in the room.

Seems like we're not the only ones risking our hides here.

She spoke softly, unsure of how acute the senses of the Regulator were and not wanting to find out the hard way. Mizuki looked up before having her attention pulled away by her wolves, who were growling softly at the Regulator. With a non-verbal command she made them quiet down, but then she was reminded of the bloodwurm.

It wasn't a companion like her wolves were, but it had still helped them out. And Yugam made a good point that if things did go south it might be the fastest way out of here... if it wasn't dead or incapacitated by that point.

Let's first get our ride stabilised before we start taking any risks. That boy over there could also hold valuable information.

With those words she'd move towards the back end of the bloodwurm, licking her lips clean as she inspected its wounds. Given that it had lost a good chunk of its tail calling the situation a wound might be a bit of an understatement, but Mizuki still had to be thorough with her work. To start with she'd try to use her hemomancy to keep any more blood from leaving the wurm's insides.

-10 HP from Wall Smash whilst Vulnerable

Well, they'd at the very least managed to shake off the big drill-headed worm, though honestly Cleo could have gone without having to smash through an entire wall just to make it out. That had seemed a little ridiculous and honestly, her opinion of the girl that had advocated for such and action began to plummet as a result, especially as people began to accumulate more wounds as a result of such a brash activity. Of course, it wasn't like anybody was seriously wounded, but then again, if they had been, what she was about to do would've felt like less of a waste of energy.

She couldn't actually heal them, her magic didn't allow for that sort of thing. Her Chronomancy didn't heal so much as it did return their bodies to a state before they were wounded. In such a case, a light injury that happened 3 seconds ago was only barely cheaper to 'heal' than a heavy injury dealt 3 seconds ago.

Still, she'd heard from people that being the healer in an MMO was a pretty thankless job. She focused on each of her teammates and herself, beginning to turn back the time of each of their bodies.

Day 1: Morning (Cycle 8)

Guidelines

@Seigi Ling Ling – You wracked your brain, thinking back on all the times you have lurked and spelunked around Vintergard. The one thing that did pop into your head was the one time when you encountered a Magia that was a lot smaller than the one sitting in front of you. At that time, you assumed that it was inactive and snuck past it, but one broken floor tile later and the enemy snapped out of its idleness and nearly crushed your side with a power swing.

At that time, you should have learned that even while an enemy Magia is idle amid charging, it still has auditory sensors and to get past it, you need to either be quiet enough to pass undetected or in the case where you fail to do so and wake it up, to pray that it doesn’t have enough of a charge to hunt you down until you’re dead.

When you looked around the room, you took note of the rubbles that had become of the massive staircase. It wasn’t the only way to get up, however, if you were willing to climb up the wall where you stood and make your way across a short section of the ceiling, you could get to the opening at the center of the high-ceilinged room and get up onto the second floor.

@Magi Heart – At your mastery level, teleporting toward the caenis boy and whisking him back to your group didn’t take much effort, 10 seconds to be exact. Although you were staring at him with so much intensity that it could have burned a hole in his face, he not only didn’t notice, but instead grabbed both of your hands and shook it with great appreciation while thanking you in a whispered voice, “Thanks sis!”

To avoid the idling Magia, the boy sniffed his way down where the wurm is so he could speak at his normal volume.

“Hi, you guys don’t know me, but I’m Haito and uh-uh, I’m one of your Chief’s escorts, I met up with another group with really cool armor and weapon like you guy’s but a huge beam just came right for us and this jester-looking sister grabbed onto me and we were just thrown toward a Groona smaller than that one, but the sister just did something and he came here, but then, and then, uh, she was just gone and I just fell from the 2nd floor down and then you guys showed up out of nowhere, uh, yeah,” the boy unloaded on anyone who was around to listen to him as he paced around, ruffling his head. He seemed worried about his savior.

Meanwhile, you (Magi) could feel a trace of Astramancy on the boy, one similar to what both you and the female Magia used the day before. Was it a coincidence? Do you know the caster?

@Yugam and @Ueno Mizuki – Both of you worked together to help the Bloodwurm recover, which began with an investigation from Mizuki. The critical observation of the Bloodwurm and its biological structure indicated that it was rather simple and that the process of helping it recover would likely involve channeling your blood into the wurm to reconstruct it. Both of you spent the time to do so. However, you could not reconstruct it very well. It is the best you can do, the wurm will have to spend some time resting for its natural bloody regrowth to finish the rest of the work. Give it time and the wurm will be able to burrow again.

Yugam: Awareness +15, Hemo +20

@Cleo Looker – You spent sometimes to rewind some of the damages your teammates had gotten from the bumpy ride. Everyone may either heal for 10 HP OR risk it and regain 1d20 HP.

  • Ambush. The Regulator is idle. If the group would like to fight it, perhaps setting things up to put yourself in an advantageous position with freeform actions.
  • Wolf Boy. Tells you about Team Ego and what happened to them.
  • Bloodwurm. Needs time to regrow itself
  • Free Thinker. Self-explanatory.

+18 hp thanks to @Cleo Looker

Despite @Yugam's attempt at commanding things, @Cleo Looker and @Ueno Mizuki decided to go for the medic route instead, which meant that Seigi herself could focus on her surroundings. Right, the machines did that.

She was giving Cleo a short. "Thanks, I TRULY appreciate that!" for her healing efforts, Seigi too was down(stairs) with the rest to avoid the monster upstairs. "Do you have anywhere to go, little guy? If not, I can take care of you~" She ruffled the Caenis hair with a warm smile. Less twisted than the others so far.

"We likely already missed our window of opportunity to attack the Regulator while it is charging. Its most honed sense should be sound while in that state. If we move silently, it shouldn't be a problem. But something akin to breaking a plate is enough to wake it up. Should be enough." She made a short pause to let this info sink in.

"We certainly need a higher vantage point. I am not sure if any of you have seen it, but the ceiling has beams." As in, the structure. "As long as we, or someone, can climb up the walls they can get to the hole and avoid getting close to the Regulator altogether." Seigi tilted her head.

"I'd be up for it, but I can also be bait against the Regulator if it wakes up!"

"Thanks sis!"

She had barely helped him at all, if anything she was extending his suffering. As he shook her hands she pitied him. To think he thought he was safe... she reached for his ear and felt the fur, it was an old habit.

She grabbed it a tad roughly with her obsessive stare.

Another off smile as she let it go and followed him back to the tunnels.. Haito had gone on trying to describe what he had been through. All the stuttering and hem-hawing. It was infuriating and she just wanted to put an end to it. The magic that came off of him was enough to explain it to the Dark Heart.

"I can also be bait against the Regulator if it wakes up!"

+10 HP from Cleo

As Mizuki had suspected, getting the bloodwurm back in shape was beyond her and Yugam's capabilities. While the two of them worked together to keep the massive beast from dying, its size made anything beyond that virtually impossible. As it was, they were already fortunate that the wurm's internal plumbing was simple enough that they didn't have to dedicate too much brainpower to figuring out how all the tubes connected.

At the end of their work the best the luna wolf could do was conclude that the bloodwurm was no longer in danger of dying if left by itself. Anything beyond this would take too much energy.

I don't think we can use the wurm to escape. Better to leave it be and focus on the task at hand.

They had come to this place to scout it, after all. If they now turned back without actually doing any scouting this entire mission would have been pointless.

The white-maned caenis's explanation was far from comprehensible, but Mizuki did her best to follow. Seto and Zelrius had made it clear that they were here for their own missions, and her ears twitched as she recognised the description of the jester-like girl who had saved Haito's life. Under other circumstances she might have chosen to sit down and have a more extensive conversation with the boy, but they really needed to get to work.

We can't really help the jester if we don't know where she is, so you'll have to trust her to take care of herself. (She shot a glance towards Magi as the girl behaved a bit... oddly, before continuing.) For now just do as Magi says. We've got our own tasks to take care of, but once we get out of here you can come with us.

Seigi's suggestion of scaling the walls to get to the ceiling was a sound one. Mizuki looked up at the architecture that reached far up into the air, then looked down at her claws. Usually, she climbed surfaces with more handholds, but with a bit of ingenuity that shouldn't be an issue.

I'm going up as well. @Cleo Looker, can you accelerate me?

Once her friend had given her the chronomancy boost she'd requested Mizuki would approach the nearest wall, her claws on both hands and feet growing longer and harder. If possible she'd use already existing handholds to quickly scale the wall, if not she'd use her strengthened claws to make handholds.

-80 HP - Blood for the Blood God

Disagreement would've been fine. But straight up being ignored? Yu's face deadpanned as he watched the other's move around him without so much acknowledging him. "Yeah. Don't mind me," he droned, shaking his head slightly as he turned and went to heal Tubby.

Mizuki joined him as the others did whatever it was that they were doing, and the two began to put the bloodwurm back together as best they could. Yugam had forgotten how simple worm-like lifeforms were supposed to be, and in this moment, he was grateful for it. Combining his hemomancy and animancy to help the massive creature heal itself, the man occasionally patted the wurm's body, knowing how painful the process was.

Eventually, the pair had done all they could. They stood and rejoined the others as they tried to figure out what to do, and Yu was pleased to hear that everyone seemed to still be set on completing their mission.

Mizuki was the first to attempt to scale the walls. At first, all seemed to be going well, until a portion gave way. Debris accompanied the beastfolk as she plummeted downwards, straight towards the sleeping Regulator.

Yu reacted quickly. His right arm lifted as the bandages around it unraveled. The blood did not drip like it usually did, instead shooting outwards. Like a web, it formed a lattice in the air, connecting to the wall on the other side of the rafters. The hemomancer suppressed the urge the suck air in sharply between his teeth from pain, worried that even that little sound would awake the on stand-by construct. His net managed to catch both Mizuki and falling bricks, not a single sound being created as they all slid towards him.

Well, she'd done some work trying to undo as many wounds as she could. Now she was being told by Mizuki to accelerate her so that she could climb faster, though she didn't really have time to figure out if that would be a good idea or not. She didn't have time to do much of anything in preparation as the Canis began to ascend, climbing until things gave way and sent female and bricks alike plummeting.

Shit.

Discarding an acceleration she'd been working on, she threw out the fastest slowdown that she could muster, blanketing the falling woman and bricks, as their fall slowed to a crawl. Enough to make sure that the actual catcher could catch everything and not miss a single thing.

Though the sanguine net was pretty alarming. It had to have taken quite a lot of blood to produce that large and sturdy of a net. She threw a worried glance at @Yugam once everything was clear and she could drop her Chronomancy spell.

Want me to undo that for you?

Once again, Haito completely missed all social cues that pointed to Magi being a little off. The kid likely chalked it up to a whacky Traveler thing, which didn't have a clue about. Just as Magi stepped away, Haito called out to her with a serious tone, "Hey sis, be careful, okay? There are a lot of bad guys here…"

Meanwhile, @Ueno Mizuki tried her hand at climbing up the wall and onto the ceiling to get to the next floor. However, right when she was about to swing her arm over the edge to pull herself up on the second floor, a misplaced claw loosened a series of bricks that made her lose her grip as she began freefalling toward the idle Regulator. Had it not been for @Cleo Looker slowing the beastfolk and @Yugam emptying half of his blood bank to form a web, disaster would have befallen the team.

(Reaction Activated) @Seigi Ling Ling, who was on the lookout the entire time sprung into action and quickly bounced off the wall and jumped up the moment Mizuki entered the fall and made it through before Yugam's bloody web finished assembling. After she scooped up Mikuki in her arms, Cleo's slow field burst and the two and the bricks fell onto the web. While the bricks got stuck, the elastic web flexed and flung both Seigi and Mizuki up onto the floor above like a trampoline.

(Reaction Activated) @Magi Heart who was also on the lookout took action the moment she saw the disaster was about to go down. After performing a short teleport, she ended up on the trampoline and was subsequently flung up onto the second floor as well.

After an abrupt landing, the three were able to see the old palace with its endless halls and countless rooms all existing in a state of derelict regality. The three were able to hear machine movement down the hall, indicating that they were not alone. Should the group wish to avoid combat, their skills were going to be put to the test.

As for Yugam and Cleo, with the rest of their teammates having gotten up on the second floor it shouldn't take them much effort to get to where they were if they worked together.

Stealthy Navigations

Navigations (0/450)

Your goal for this cycle is to get to quietly navigate the palace and get yourself to the intact tower to complete your mission without alerting any of the enemies patrolling the next few floors.

Where you are currently, the halls are enclosed, though some of the areas you pass through within the palace are open to the morning Vintergardian skies.
  • Make an Expertise Check (Any) and creatively explain how you are using said expertise to achieve the goal of navigating the halls while avoiding attention. You have a lot of leeways to describe the scene here; use it! If the navigation bar is not finished after everyone has posted, an event will happen. Knack may roll with advantage.

Scouting: Ruined Palace 2nd Floor
+71 from Power Buff (2/3 with Duration Extension via Dark Blessing)

Walking closely behind @Ueno Mizuki and @Seigi Ling Ling, The Dark Heart wiped some more goop that was draining from her blackened eye. She had vaguely caught Mizuki's look earlier and it meant that she was already messing up her big plan of just being normal. She would attempt to repair this before it caused problems for her and Raina.

"Wowzers this place is pretty big. This might take us a while. "

Even with all darkness brewing in her. Wendel welcomed the opportunity to do things with people that weren't Vermillion's goons. It helped Mizuki was fluffy too, she had to be careful not to lose track of Seigi though.

The sound of machinery irked the Dark Heart but somehow she was still maintaining her sanity enough. Raina, Haito, and even those pitiful people at the camp. She had to live if she was to help them. The desire to help, beat any madness-induced frenzies... for now.

"...Mizu.. Mizuki? I know I'm coming off strange, but I want you to know that I won't endanger you. I'm here to ̷h̵e̸l̴p̸ ̵n̵o̷t̷ ̵h̸u̸r̶t̷.̶ "

It was true as well. There was no reason to end Mizuki in any way if she would just revive. That made things harder with protecting Raina as well. She raised a pinky. as if making a pinky swear before moving beside Seigi and asking her a question she'd been meaning to ask.

"Raina-chan are ̶y̸o̶u̴ ̵o̸k̶a̸y̶?̵ ̴You've been acting differently since our promise at camp. I am me, regardless of how I feel about what I was like before. You feel like yo̴u̵ ̴a̸r̷e̶ ̷m̸a̸n̶y̴ though... gee whiz probably ̴n̸o̷t̵ ̸t̵h̷e̷ ̴b̷e̵s̷t̷ ̶t̸i̶m̴e̶.̴.."

She shook her head and kept her mana ready to become magic the moment a mecha appeared before her. The goal was to reach the top so... she made sure to resist the urge to just blow up with the throbbing of magic and dissonance she had going on inside her right now.

Stay calm.
The greater enemy is ahead not here.

It appeared that the web of blood that Yu had created was even more durable than he'd initially thought. As Mizuki, and suddenly Seigi and Magi, as well collided with his net, the latticed threads flexed impressively, stretching out and then flinging the three women into the air, all the way up to their goal.

Safe to now release his spell, Yu slumped forward, his hands on his knees as he panted, sweat pouring off his brow. The man was noticeably more pale now, his slightly tanned skin now taking on a grey tinge as his blood slowly trickled back into his body. It wouldn't be brought back into circulation for a while, he knew.

With three of them up, that still left himself and Cleo to make their own ways up the wall. Yu looked up the wall. Climbing it didn't seem like a good idea, especially after having just seen what happened to Mizuki. Instead, the man crafted another long web of blood and flung it upwards, wrapping it around an anchor point. A strong tug to make sure that it was secure, and then Yu began to climb.

Despite the obvious fatigue wearing on his body, Yu forced himself to pull himself higher and higher. As fast as he could, he slowly made his way up to join the others. By the time he'd made it, he was entirely out of breathe, his head beginning to feel light from all the blood loss. Can't stop now though.

Seigi's initial plan did not go quite as planned. But when did they ever? Seeing @Ueno Mizuki fall, as @Yugam sprung into action, gave the Hero an idea. Sighing and excited about it alike, she stormed forward. A silent step that quickly turned into a jump to catch Mizuki mid-air, their landing relatively soundless thanks to @Cleo Looker magic and Yugam's web.

Not done, Seigi decided to seize the hour. In fact, the blood net trampoline was a great idea! Why didn't they do this earlier? Maybe because all it took was Yugam bleeding out?

In one singular motion, Seigi and Mizuki were now on the next floor. "There we go, little wolf." Seigi smiled at Mizuki, before letting her down from her arms and taking a step back. Up here the stupid Machine wouldn't hear them, right? Though Seigi would still make sure to stay relatively silent.

It was then that Seigi realized, or rather saw, that something was still seriously wrong with @Magi Heart. She was... bleeding, but like, the edgy kind of bleed!

What is that?!
What is what?
You told me you'd fix her!
Such ginorant innocence. We did fix her, somewhat, but it's not like we can snap with our finger and all is fine.
You! No. We'll see about that. I...

Yeah, right, sure Seigi liked to believe every baddie could become a good guy, but for now Nanami maybe still needed to stay on the sidelines?!

"Oh, Magi..." Seigi spoke to finally address the girl. "Magi!" Seigi repeated, giving her a hug. "I don't know what's going on with you, but you don't need to worry about me. Worry about yourself! After this is over we gotta talk." Mentally, she sighed, though outwards she showed the most radiant smile she could.

Was there something she could do right now? Apart from words OR stirring some huge drama? "I..." A memento perhaps?! Seigi stripped, at least she removed the sweater that she had found so much comfort in. Below that was her usual fighting uniform, reminiscent of Asian martial arts, just with some orange and red ribbon/frills attached. White, red, and orange went well together after all.

Removing one of them, she grabbed Magi's hand into her own and left that piece of cloth with her. "No matter what happens, I'll always be with you, okay? So... stray strong and fight your darkness, yes?"

With these words, she put on her sweater again and turned to the hallways. Seigi played enough stealth games to know how this worked! Using her knowledge about the Vintergard Magia, her awareness, and a little bit of guts and luck, she'd make an attempt at getting down the patrol route of the various groups of enemies to sneak past them as a group! Maybe with her taking the lead?

At first, Mizuki felt like she was making good progress thanks to Cleo's acceleration. While she didn't scale manmade structures often the bricks did give her lots of handholds, so she didn't have to worry too much about using her claws. However, once she'd almost reached the top she felt the bricks she'd just grabbed hold of giving way even as she tried to pull herself off, and within seconds she was tumbling down, arms flailing as she tried to grab hold of something. Below was the Regulator, she didn't have enough time to shift into something capable of flight...

Just when Mizuki was turning around and readying her claws to strike at the Regulator upon impact, she felt something impact from behind, quickly revealed to be Seigi. Around her, the world also seemed to speed up, and within moments she found herself on the second floor after bouncing from a web made of... blood? Just how much was Yugam putting into that?

Her ears twitched and her face turned red at @Seigi Ling Ling's words. She'd gone up the wall so confidently, but from the looks of it, three of her companions had needed to help her out after those bricks gave way. That stung.

Thanks.

Looking over the edge she frowned with concern as she waited for Cleo and Yugam to make their way up. She would've liked to help them out, but it seemed like both of them were already getting to work helping themselves. The necromancer looked like he'd worn himself out though...

Hrmmm... Hmmm? (She looked over her shoulder as she was addressed by @Magi Heart.) ...I don't know what's going on, but for now, just try to focus on the task before us.

Mizuki wasn't particularly close to Magi, so she wasn't really in a position to delve deeper into whatever issues Magi was struggling with. Seigi was better equipped for that, as the heroine quickly showed.

Instead, she would focus on the task before them, as she'd suggested to Magi. Crumbling halls had to be navigated while avoiding the mechanical guards that were ready to unleash hell on anything they spotted.

Dropping on all fours the luna wolf would stalk her way forward, her tail low to the ground behind her while her ears were pointing forward, alert towards every sound. Machines also had their own scent, Mizuki periodically sniffing the air to get a better idea of the positions of the guards. It didn't take much imagination to see that Mizuki was mimicking the stalking behaviour of actual wolves as she'd advance through the halls while keeping her distance from all the machines.

Well that was all one hell of a mess, luckily prevented thanks to a last ditch effort at the hands of @Yugam and herself, though now came the task of scaling their way up and beginning the job they'd actually come here to do and scout. It was weird to think that they hadn't even arrived at the vantage points yet, given that they'd already had to deal with giant worms and drill headed things. And decapitated robot heads too, which had spread wires throughout giant worm nervous system.

Yeah...

Projecting a single spear, Cleo held onto it with both hands and allowed her control over the construct to lift it, and herself, up off of the ground in pursuit of the rest of the group. Given that she'd been looking at different maps for a while, it was probably time to put some of that skill to use and help direct her comrades towards the vantage points.

And to make sure that nothing had spotted them or was closing in on them from behind.

It never hurt to secure the exfiltration route.

Day 1: Morning (Cycle 10)

Guidelines

Whatever the case might have been, Magi did manage to control herself, practicing her old mannerism to bring back her old self in an attempt to regulate her shifting moods. As the Scouts quietly snuck around the ruined labyrinth that the palace had become, Yugam could hardly keep up, but he did manage to stay with his group until the end, even if he wished he was dead. At the front of the group was Seigi, who had loitered around the palace a few times when she came to turn in the tax on her casino earnings was able to get the group to where it needed to be, while her observation and memorization skills was put to the test in evading the enemy’s patrol path.

With a skilled navigator at the front, Mizuki helping the others travel quietly as wolves often do, and Cleo watching their group’s back. They managed to get all the way to one of the tertiary towers. After a short climb up the winding staircase that wrapped around the cylindrical tower, they finally arrived at the vantage point they had been pursuing the entire time. The alternative objective turned out to be just as dangerous as the previous one, however, the current vantage point allowed the group to carry out their surveying without having to go anywhere near the Dragonship’s Head.

Being rather high up, the scouts got a fantastic view of the capital. Though, at the height they saw the city from was a far cry from what they would have seen before the palace’s collapse. The group didn’t have much time to admire the view, however they needed to complete their objective.

With a bit of preparation, surveying equipment, and awareness skills, the scouts would have been able to see the current state of the former capital. Each person’s surveying revealed that:

@Seigi Ling Ling - You noted that strange structures with smooth silver coating were present throughout the city. A number of enemy Magia could be seen bringing salvaged Magia parts and other materials there, entering them while a blue light was flashing nonstop. While you were watching, a new unit exited the structure on the opposite end. There was a good case to be made that these structures were Magia Forges. However, you did not have enough evidence to figure out how long it took each new unit to be produced. From what you have seen from your numerous encounters with Dragonship Magia, they would often reclaim the corpses of their own, which you assumed it was for the purpose of recycling, but you weren’t completely sure until now.

@Yugam - The capital city was completely overrun with Dragonship Magia, though the majority of them were not humanoid shaped. That particularity stood out like a sore thumb to you.

@Ueno Mizuki - You made an acute observation that any place the Dragonship is lying on or where there is Magia Forge, plants are either absent or completely wilted. Considering your expertise over nature, it seemed to be a strong indication that Magitech has a negative effect on nature and by extension, the magic in the natural world itself.

@Cleo Looker - You noted that there were two transparent eggs near the Dragonship’s Head, one glowing a sparkling golden color while the other was glowing red. Occasionally, a humanoid Magia would approach both eggs to insert some kind of large crystals into the eggs, after which it glowed with energy. Was that some kind of sustenance for the egg? You’re not entirely sure.

@Magi Heart - There was something that felt very off about the former capital to you. No matter where you looked, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, yet you can feel the presence of dissonance everywhere except the Dragonship’s Head itself.

While its subtle presence made your skin crawl, you were already used to that prickling sensation so it didn’t faze you in the least. You’re sure that Seigi can feel it too, though, possibly not as strongly as you. Your heart palpitated. A pair of eyes from somewhere was fixed on you. You couldn’t see that far, but when you close your eyes you could see her shape, cold eyes, and red-hair. Your nearly-healed wounds from yesterday itched uncontrollably, it would have taken the will of Zeus to stop yourself from digging at the barely sealed slits. You didn’t know what or who the Magia who had wounded you was, but you were completely certain then. It was a dissonance.

In your mind’s eyes, you see the red-headed Magia raising her arm to point a finger directly at you, her lips moved, though no words came out of it. She mouthed, ‘Enemy of the saviors. Initiate deletion.’ You immediately felt an overwhelming sense of danger. An attack was coming.

- ✦ -
A shot from a cannon came all the way from the Dragonship’s Head area, spearheading directly for the Scouts. However, Magi, who felt it ahead of time because of her connection, intercepted it with a powerful burst.

A massive explosion rang out midair when the two attacks collided. Had it not been for Magi’s empowered attack, the cannon shot would have taken the top of the tower off and inflicted a great deal of hurt on the scouts. With the attack deflected, it had become abundantly clear to scouts that their positions had been discovered. They need to fight their way back through the palace.

The climb wasn't arduous. Or at least, it shouldn't have been. But in Yugam's weakened state, making it up to vantage point had felt closer to completing a triathlon. Every step he took forced him to fight against the sweet embrace of unconsciousness, lightheadedness threatening him at every turn. His arms and legs felt heavy, refused to move as he bid them. But still, he pressed on.

By the time they reached the top, Yugam was breathing heavily, his chest heaving. He was barely standing as he looked out over the city. It was massive. It must've been beautiful once, he thought. But now it was just a ruin, crawling with all kinds of Magia that would surely love nothing more than to kill them all, assimilate them into...whatever it was...

It was strange though. For all the various types of Magia wandering around down below, Yu could spot only a handful of humanoids. The rest? Maybe that's what had been happening to Tubby. They'd found him with a Magia grafted onto his body after all. Maybe the Magia were trying to assimilate the bloodwurm, full on Star Trek borg style. Yugam would've shuddered at the thought if he could. To lose one's own will, their sense of self like that...

BOOM!

A sudden explosion overhead shook the whole building, moving the air within in Yu's lungs. He would've sworn if he didn't need to save his strength. Another orb of blood, something that had become somewhat of a signature of the man, began to gather in the man's palm before exploding outward. Suddenly, Cleo, Mizuki and Magi were all surrounded by smaller sanguine orbs, all orbiting them quickly, intercepting anyone or anything that might approach them. "Sorry...not enough...for all of us..." the man struggled out to Seigi. "I tried..."

Wendel took the orange memento from Seigi and held it a little confused but then came up with an idea. That magic from earlier, she could use it to keep track of Seigi and perhaps they could remain connected in case of separation. Removing the black ribbon from around her neck she offered it to the hero.

"Here, a friendship trade. If you have that I can find you if we get separated.O̷̳͒r̴̡̆a̵̛̪ń̸͔g̷̨̾ë̴̟ ̵̘̏a̴̧͐ń̸͓ḓ̴̛ ̵͖̂b̴̡̋l̶̬̄a̵͚̅c̵͈͛ǩ̶̨ ̶͈̂ģ̴̐o̶̞̒ ̴͓͆t̴͍͠ọ̴̾g̴̛̬ē̶͔t̶̜͗h̴e̷̲̐ȑ̴̩ ̶͖̅l̸͕̅ī̶̳ḳ̵͠ē̷̻ ̸͔̑p̶͖͊ȇ̵̺ȃ̴̫n̵̙̽u̶̜̇t̴͆͜ ̵͈̆b̷̳̏u̴̗͠ţ̵͋t̵̟̍ë̶̬́r̷̜̔ ̶͙̏ä̴͈n̷͔̍d̶̟͗ ̶̻͘c̴̨͝ḥ̵̂o̵͓̾c̴̭̀o̶̅͜l̷͚͒ḁ̵͘ţ̴̚e̶͈͝.̷̻͐."

Honestly considering how that spell was performed and how little control she had, it may never be possible again but it was a good thing to have available for Raina's situation. After wrapping the new orange ribbon around her neck temporarily. She followed after the rest, now with Yugam and Cleo in tow.

The rest of the trip was... well stuff happened.

It had been sudden and took her by surprise. The number of things that were going over the teen's head since that moment in the tent just continued. Riding a wurm felt normal, at least she understood what was happening. Now she felt like she was being followed by the hermit man (Haru). A ton of him in fact.

What is that?
It was what she felt from herself.
Dissonance?
Why here?

On top of that was her, the red magia. Wendel knew she was around this entire time, the doggo Haito only confirmed it for her. But dissonance too? What even was she trying to destroy anymore?

Once the scouting party reached the top, the Dark Heart had grasped her chest. She had held it all in for too long, she was going to make a mistake and...

Her eyes darted around and saw the area around them then she "saw" the red magia, the words forming...

Wendel shoved aside someone, she wasn't even sure who in her blurring distorting vision. She unleashed her blast to meet the much stronger beam from the Dragonhead. Back in the day, she may have called out the name of her attacks, but that was a very different time.

...and it wasn't enough.

Dissonant or not, she was just an ex-wannabe hero-girl gone psycho, with abnormally high magic affinity yes... but... This was the weapon of what could be a damn SPACESHIP for all anyone knew.

"GOOD ENDING FOR FUCKING ONCE!!!"

A reinforced blast consumed her original with a combination of colors. Her unseen EN meter absolutely disintegrated from the burst. The beam struggle in the sky would surely catch every magia and anything else's attention as the beams clashed.

Machine Magic vs Dissonant Magic.
All unified by Dissonance?
Or...?

The blasts both finally ended with the scouting party all still standing unharmed.
Wendy was tired.

She couldn't continue this anymore...
Alas, it was not over.
And In the grander scheme not even close.

Now they were running...

The sound of sentry sirens pierced the tired girl's ears as her heterochromatic eyes darted to try and catch every machine trying to flank them. No dark pink aura, no aura of any kind came off of her, not after all that. All she had was what bare minimum reserve of magic she could muster.

Half of her face was covered in goop from when it outpoured during the struggle, but there was no time to wipe it away now. All she had right now was survival. The dissonant instinct, the human instinct.

"I have to get out of here with everyone and keep them alive... can't die... can't die... not yet... not yet...not the right way... not right..."

After all of this... the entire Starcalled that was Magi Heart needed a real moment.

A clap, a boom like thunder and suddenly it felt like everything had gone to hell, one of their own having countered some kind of attack with an attack of their own, for whatever it was worth. They certainly weren't undetected anymore, so now was the time to run? In the chaos, she'd really lost sight of what was happening. She was only barely made aware of the blood based protection that was afforded to her by the scouting party's sole male. A man that looked to be particularly struggling. Cleo turned to @Yugam and thrust a palm out, teeth grit.

You moron! Try not to kill yourself otherwise you won't be keeping anybody safe! Keep going!

She rewound his body, isolating it from everything else, so as not to undo the protection he'd offered. The paradox of identical blood cells existing in and out of the body wouldn't cause any harm, so it could be afforded.

Wordlessly, a curtain of spears began appearing in a radius around the team as they moved, firing out in a circle, hitting targets and shattering like shrapnel bombs, spreading to more and more targets.

They had to keep moving.

But, looking at her team, she only knew how one of them fought. Could only predict how one of them would move. There really was only a single individual here that she could call her partner. Could call her friend. Yes, when it came to it, there was one person here that she could really support. Plus, didn't she deserve to redeem herself after the wall?

Between a full barrel assault of spears and arcane shrapnel bombing, Cleo planted her feet, hands reaching out to grab @Ueno Mizuki by the shoulders, pressing her forehead to the back of the beastkin's head. One hand manipulated the metronome in her mind's eye, increasing the tempo as her Chronomancy wrapped around Mizuki like a blanket, the world likely slowing to a crawl for the wolf lady.

The other hand built, waves of arcane power flowing off of Cleo's body and onto Mizuki's, forming layers and layers of crimson that left her friend clad in gauntlets and boots, with thick, elongated claws, stretching out like swords.

Cut loose! Leave nothing standing! Come back to me!

Once they'd all made their way up to the second floor the path forward was a lot more in alignment with Mizuki's specialty. With Seigi taking care of the navigation all she had to do was stalk the palace halls, sniffing out potential threats so she and her allies could safely move around them without being discovered. And with Cleo covering their backs she felt confident that she could keep her attention focused on what was in front of them. After all, anything that tried to jump them from behind would just get perforated by a barrage of spears.

Although by this point Mizuki was worried that they might also be threatened by one of their own. She'd told Magi to try and focus on the mission, but that might be easier said than done.

Reaching the top of the palace, or as high as they could get with all the rubble, gave her the opportunity to behold what remained of Vintergard. Once it had been the central hub of the Traveler community, now it was a city filled with rubble and various types of machines which were hostile to all outsiders. Mizuki studied the landscape far below, her eyes sharp as she watched the machines and magia move around before she noticed something strange.

If left alone a devastated city would be reclaimed by nature in time. It wasn't surprising that the machines would get rid of any plants that got in the way. What was unusual, however, was the complete and utter absence of any healthy and tough weeds. Even the plants which hadn't been forcibly removed looked like they were withering away. And it happened anywhere that there was stationary machinery...

Whatever it is they're doing, it doesn't look like it's good for nature.

She'd barely made the observation before she felt someone shove her aside, the luna wolf letting out a surprised noise before whatever she might have wanted to say died on her lips. Magi was now standing in front of the group, releasing a truly devastating blast to counter the artillery strike that had threatened to wipe out the spire they all were standing in.

There was no need to state the obvious: they all needed to get out of here, now.

As they made their way back down towards the bowels of the palace Mizuki at first focused on taking out smaller machines that were rapidly converging on their location, the ones agile enough to avoid Cleo's relentless and omnidirectional arcane assault. With swift claws she'd strike them down, rending them with hardened claws to ensure that they couldn't send any information back to the more combat-capable machines that were no doubt following.

But then she felt someone grab her by the shoulders from behind and a forehead pressing against the back of her head. Her ears twitched in confusion as she tried to look at @Cleo Looker from the corner of her eye.

Cleo?

What was her friend doing, even now as they had to move fast? But she could feel Cleo's magic enveloping her, and the world slowed down as if everything had been submerged. At the same time, glowing red claws formed on her hands and feet, followed by what Mizuki could only interpret as a command for her to go forth and destroy.

Hrmmm...

Mizuki took a step forward, lifting one hand to look at the arcane claws she'd just been blessed with. Bringing her arm to her face she opened her mouth and bit into the flesh, sharp fangs piercing skin to draw blood. Feeling the pain blossom in her mind she focused on the sensation of blood on her fangs, on her tongue, the taste... Her fur began to bristle as the bloodlust rose to the surface, the desire to hunt and to kill.

This was no time to hold back, and if Cleo wanted for Mizuki to pull all the stops the luna wolf would give it everything she had. Even if that meant losing control of her most feral urges for the moment.

As she turned her head to look at Cleo the lancer would see that Mizuki's left eye had turned sanguine while her right eye was like blue ice. Both eyes were now glowing while Mizuki's hands and feet turned into claws. Her clothes melted away up to her elbows and knees, replaced by thick, bristling fur, a mixture of black and white. The bite mark Mizuki had inflicted upon herself had already healed up.

You run, I'll hunt!

With those words, she dropped on all fours, and when the next machine approached their location she dashed forward at immense speed, accelerated by Cleo's gift. The machine raised one limb to unleash a hail of bullets, but before it could start firing Mizuki's augmented claw tore through its body, tearing through plating and wiring as if it was nothing more than paper. Without a pause, Mizuki spun around and used the collapsing machine as a launching pad to pounce at another machine which was approaching the scouting squad. This one released a laser blast which burned Mizuki's fur, but the luna wolf only snarled as she grabbed her prey with both clawed hands and tore it apart.

For the remainder of their retreat, Mizuki would barely touch the ground, using their surroundings and approaching enemies as stepping stones to jump from one threat to another, tearing into them with fangs and claws without relenting. She didn't have the blitzing speed of a Dynamism user, but thanks to Cleo's assistance she was fast enough, and what she lacked in speed she made up for in raw destructive power and ferocity. Her feral defence of the squad caused her to take quite a beating as well, metal piercing skin and plasma searing flesh, but from those wounds, blood came forth which formed a protective bark to prevent further injury, with additional blood seeping into the arcane claws Cleo had given her until it was difficult to say whether the red glow came from the lancer's magic or the alpha's blood.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAHHH!

"Watch out!" Seigi called out as Magi's attack collided with the laser from the dragon ship's deadly aim! They finally acquired the information they had come for, and for Seigi. It meant the longer they kept the Warforges of the Magia running, the worse it'll be.

Thus, it was almost comedic that it was at this exact moment that they were finally busted. Following that, was a lot going on. Seigi had already felt the unease as they ascended up the palace, and it wasn't just the unpleasant memories of paying way too much taxes. The view from the top had made it so much clearer that corruption ran rampant.

Nonetheless, with the information acquired, and @Magi Heart saving the day, the group had to now to their great escape. "Wow, Magi, that was just, totally awesome!" Seigi gave her best friend a thumbs up.

Rather happy that @Yugam decided to shield everybody but her, they backtracked the way they more-or-less came from in formation. With @Ueno Mizuki taking the front, mostly thanks to @Cleo Looker support to decimate whatever stood in their way.

Seigi, too, itched for action. But instead decided to opt for more Teamwork this time around. "Yugam, I get your whole blood schtick and all, but stop bleeding SO much!" She commanded the blood mage. "Magi, I'll kill you if you die, and that's a promise." She made sure Magi would keep her survival in mind. "And Mizuki, nice fight you got but CAAALLMMM DOOWWWNNNN!!!!!" Seigi remembered her own moments when she got really angry and ignored her own safety, just recently it nearly cost her her head.

Despite simple words, combined with her spiritual battle aura, all three of them would feel somewhat more rejuvenated.

"And keep a lookout for the Regulator downstairs!"
