Dragon.End
Season 4 Finale - Part 3 (Cycle 2)

As the Starcalled recklessly pushed forward, the God Searing Light hummed. Despite having been briefed on its existence through Operation Siren Silence, there wasn't enough time or personnel to do anything with the information other than performing drills to blindly dodge its attack, whatever that may be.

When the humming stopped, the battlefield was flooded with light. The blinding brilliance was warm at first, but then rapidly heated up the air in its linear trajectory that ran all the way down the warzone.

When the attack evaporated the many Starcalled and Landers who were directly in its path, while nearly burning others to death, the Forward team's formation and momentum were completely broken. Without the pain limiter turned on, many of your allies turned to flee, not wanting to experience the burning a second time.

Had it not been for the brave protectors who shielded you from harm, you too would have experienced much of the same fate.

Although the enemy magia no longer has Tetsunosuke's artillery, Tick Tock's bombardment, and Ronja's tactical strikes, the bulletstorm did not relent, though, they were far more destructive as many of the people on your side were still recovering from the searing light.

- ✦ -

[ Warning. Warning. God Searing Light is now at 50% capacity. Handler's Power Reserve near depletion. Recharge recommended. ]

"Permission override. Warning bypassed. Command: charge. Release when its full capacity is reached. The Red Key is nearly complete and with it, our collective hope will be realized," Szofrit communicated with the swirling super-weapon.

Turning toward the direction of the Starcalled, the Magia leader closed her eyes and entered the player's UI, where she addressed you directly through the distorted software, which flickered on,

[ The game had already begun, yet you have yet to awaken to your true purpose. Victims of hubris, who waste precious time on strife and destruction, assimilate and become the instrument to terminate this repeated suffering. You too will receive salvation. ]

Right as Szofrit terminated her transmission, your UI jittered as the voice of a young child, attached to golden twin tails and a face that was beyond glitched, tried to reach you through the same UI noise that had been the source of your migraine. The child pointed to the golden egg in your distorted vision.

[ Hh--\\ Hh \\--Hh--elp--!! ]

- ✦ -

Your forces have scattered in all directions, unable to rally out of fear of being annihilated by the God Searing Light, which sickening hum could still be heard within the steamy warzone.

Fight, claw, crawl forward or flee, Starcalled. The enemies are tirelessly marching toward you, will unbroken, for the collective promise is the blade that will sever the cycle.

For what purposes do you serve?

The world eagerly awaits your answer.

Cycle 2 - Mechanics

Thread Rules
  • The next cycle will drop in approximately 24-48 hours.
  • Up to 2 characters per OOC account may participate in the event.
  • Each character can make 2 posts per cycle, one with mechanics and one to respond to others, it doesn't matter which one takes place first.
  • Max word count is 500 words excluding BBcodes.
  • There is no set posting order.
  • Any communication can be done either by making a private comms thread or posting in the event's official comms thread.
  • This event thread is focused entirely on progressing the plot. If you would like to take a personal moment with others, you can make a private thread in the regular forum.
  • All rolls must be done in the #event-rolls channel.
  • Important Links: Spreadsheet Tracker, TLDR Play Sheet Guide, Full Play Sheet Guide
  • Thread Code: 1714C2

Special Mechanics

Hope [ 1152/7700 ]

For the invasion part, think of Hope as a party HP, which we got from rounding the Hold score. When damage is dealt to the entire group or do individuals, they will reduce Hope.
  • Tracking. Narrators will calculate the damage to Hope, so you don't have to worry about it.
  • Healing. Healing any ally or gaining mitigation recovers Hope by the same amount.
  • Help. Contributing to the battle this way to recover Hope. See the Objectives section.
  • If Hope hits zero during this phase, Szofrit will complete the Red Key and engages the group immediately with an attack phase.

God Searing Light

  • Charging
  • When Forward reaches 7500, the God Searing Light immediately unloads 50d100 damage to Hope. The damage cannot be bypassed.
  • When Forward Reaches 9500, the God Searing Light immediately unloads 25d100 damage to Hope. The damage cannot be bypassed.

NPCs

NPCs will help when they are able to this cycle.

Objectives

  • All relevant free actions, passives, bonus actions, main actions, and armor abilities may be used.
  • You will be able to remake your play sheet and refresh your armor abilities when you reach Szofrit.
  • When you lose HP willingly, subtract from your own HP.
  • Pick one of the following tracks below:
Forward [ 5168 / 10000 ]

In order to forge a path forward, you must break past the enemy's defense to get to Szofrit by any mean necessary. Stick together with your comrades, endure the enemy's attacks, kill or suppress the soul-less machines. You waive the rights to life the moment you step foot onto the warzone.

Should you fail to complete this track by the end of cycle 2, Szofrit will immediately complete the Red Key and engages the group.

Pick one of the options below:

Make a Contribution Roll (Mastery or Expertise) to push through hell and reach Szofrit.
  • Combined Masteries: If a mastery check is used: +5 per MR of a second mastery.
  • Advantage: Make a Save (Any - DC 50). If successful, make your contribution roll with advantage.
  • Bonus Actions: You may use any bonus actions.
Use your combat actions and bonus actions to contribute to the Forward track. See the list below for non-standard mechanics.
  • Second Wind: Activating Second Wind allows you to recover Hope by triple the HP amount.
  • Vulnerability: When you gain Vulnerability, you will be attacked during the cycle's Damage Phase if Szofrit goes first in the next phase.
  • Protect: If you cancel someone's Vulnerability, they will not be targeted by the individual attacks.
  • Mitigation: You may add your mitigation number to Forward and Hope.
  • Taunting: Has no mechanic but flavor here.
  • SP damage: Add to Forward just like HP damage.
  • Heal: When you heal allies, add the amount to Hope and Forward.
  • Buff: When you buff allies, the buff may only apply to attack actions, but you may add the value of 1 of the charges to Forward whether or not the charges are used. Versatile FA may be used. If Versatile BA is used, pick whether to add the 2 heal values or the buff value to add to Forward.
  • Overheal: You may overheal allies during this phase.
  • Inspire: When Inspire is used to boost contribution, double the amount to each target.
  • Sharpshooter, Hyper Awareness, Berserk get the maximum amount.
  • Maneuver: Use your BA to perform special actions without becoming Vulnerable.

Help

After the attack from the God Searing Light, the Forward team has fallen apart and everybody has been scattered every which way. Help your allies and bring the team back together and maintain hope in the maw of the great danger.

Help maintain Hope so your team can outlast the last two charges of the God Searing Light.

Make a Contribution Roll (Mastery or Expertise) and include how it contributes to the completion of the objective.
  • Combined Mastery: If a mastery check is used: +5 per MR of a second mastery.
  • Advantage: Make a Reflex Save (DC 50). If successful, make your contribution roll with advantage.
  • Bonus Actions: You may use any bonus actions.

(Secondary) Aid The Vulnerable

Allies who recklessly attempted to make great gains forward have exposed themselves to danger and require aid from others. All tagged character below takes 40 damage (normal), Aerial takes 80 (Super Vulnerable), if protected, no damage.
  • In order to help them, use your Bonus Action and interact with one person below (no roll required).
  • If any of these characters are not aided, they will gain a narratively-fitting hindrance for the rest of Phase 2 and 3.
  • The affected characters here may still take action, but weave the hindrance into your post in a way that makes sense or use the narrative post!
  • For those who are aiding one of the people below, you can omit the bonus action from your main post and instead use your bonus action for the 2nd post, as it would be cleaner, but by no mean required. You can simple weave this bonus action into your main action if you would like.
  • A vulnerable character may aid another vulnerable character so long as it makes narrative sense.
@Jin - Currently being crushed by a heavy-armored enemy that looked a lot like a certain model he eviscerated. Can his Hemomancy endure the trash-compacting power of the vengeful machine?

@Ayna Nietzsche - Stepped onto a trap that had pierced through her legs, preventing her from making use of her Dynamism. A rabbit caught in a bear trap.

@Langley - The Maw has turned against the Bull, gobbling up to his bicep. OWMROMROM!

@Erick Stryker - Erick has been locked in a fractured fate, forced to live through some alternate timelines as he stood frozen in the middle of the battlefield...

@Fina Drago - In a momentary lapse, a bullet went through her stomach the moment she unleased her magic. Blood is spewing out from her wound.

@Inari - The God Searing Light's burning has overwhelmed her, rendering her unable to take action properly as she writhed in pain.

@Imoogi - The pain resulting from the God Searing Light has made her drop to the ground and splatter herself with her own potions. Uh-oh.

@Cleo Looker - An enemy somehow managed to catch one of her spears and hurled it right back and through her. A taste of her own medicine.

@Zelrius - Although he was about to be struck with a hail of bullets, his flame melted them, turning them into strays that would only cut his skin. Zelrius may aid two people on this list with only a single bonus action.

@Lilith - A laser from a hidden enemy on the ground severed her fingers. Better get that taken care of quickly...

@Chrys - A massive armored unit leaped and body-slammed Chrys so hard he went through the side of one of the Dragonship carcass. Within is a ring-like arena where Chrys was about to get rocked.

@Attia Patal - While she pursued Hanno, a massive titanium wolf snatched her up in its jaw and began taking her away from the battlefield where it would chomp on her out of sight.

@Toko - A massive metallic hand smacked Toko through the side of the Dragonship where @Chrys happens to be. Now it's a party.

@Elizabeth Lixshine - The God Searing Light has set her aflame, in what felt like a live witch-burning. Persecuted Healer.

@Hanasakura Okami - While she rushed through the battlefield, a massive titanium avian snatched her from the ground, intending on dropping her once it reaches the right height.

@Magi Heart - When Szofrit entered her mind, she lingered for a bit longer as she sought to inflict as much mental harm on Magi as possible. Mortal Enemy.

@Aerial - A magia with similar skillset as Aerial broke through her defensive zone and successfully executed a critial attack on Aerial, kicking her across the singed snowfield, intending on finishing her off. (Requires 2 bonus actions to aid Aerial).

Beholding an unthinkable present

Wendel took his hand, and Erick's gaze turned toward the unending sea of enemies that threatened to swallow them whole. Together, he said, come what may. When the God Searing Light fanned out over them and sent the preternatural flames over the Starcalled, bathing them in unholy radiance, his body slacked.

He could feel the dissonant energies flowing back and forth through the woman, into him, and back- but it was all of the things happening at once that jarred him rather than her power. They were together, anchored by one hand in the other, but that was the extent of it.

In one scene, he saw a sweeter, smiling version of the woman. She looked up at him like he was noble and she respected, perhaps even idolized him. This version of Wendel should have been impossible- but in that instant- apparently such a thing was not so farfetched.

And another timeline showed her screaming, crying, that same sweet girl, tormented by some unseen affliction. She clutched her head, calling out for anyone who could hear her- but no one did. He longed to reach out to her, to help her, to protect her- but she was out of reach.

Or... was she?

Erick squeezed the hand in his subconsciously, seeking to send affirmation and reassurance to that poor girl- not Wendel, and yet... so very close. The warmth of his touch, the radiance of a fraction of the Sunsword's light moved through him, into the woman who had chosen him for her partner. Even without agency, Erick's will to protect her shone bright.

The world around them was opaque, milky white that swirled with temporal dissonance. A strange, unholy progeny of their combined might. And in the face of the Magia's Superweapon, the two seemed to coalesce, as if they were a single consciousness split into two. Fractured.

Though Erick could not see nor hear what she could, inexplicably, he could feel the unimaginable burden that fell upon her, and like a lodestone, he squeezed her hand tighter to help bear it.

"Together," he repeated, unflinching.

"You know she doesn't want what you want, Mister Stryker," a softer voice told him.

"I don't believe there's no part of her that's redeemable," he said quietly back. "I saw it," he added, his smile present despite the turbulence around him. His unwavering desire to push forward, despite the hopelessness that was thrust upon him- upon them all. "I saw her."

"She was right," the gentle voice chuckled. "You are a funny one."

He turned to look at who's hand he was holding, but it wasn't Wendel. It was someone else. Someone who looked the same, but was clearly not. "I saw..."

The girl smiled at him faintly, but gave no response. She was like a caged bird, one that would never fly again. What...

"Be free," he said absently, squeezing her hand once again.

@Aerial was fast, a blur of blue through the flames and snow. But was there one just like her, just as fast, if not faster?

The whirr of micro-servos and hiss of rear-mounted heatsinks vaporising snowflakes as they fell were the only sounds that her mute assailant uttered. Lethal, lightweight, optimised for war and- how! How could blood ever beat metal? Foolish girl.

Sensors recognise the helpless Starcalled and identify her possible vectors of retaliation, passing the information to processors whose algorithms compute an overwhelming chance of successful neutralisation. If the machine had lips to smile, they would curl ever so slightly with satisfaction. But it did not.

Even so, Aerial no doubt knew what words it would speak, had it any to say.

Now, hope fades.

NOT SO FAST!!

The ringing sound of steel on steel is the answer; Schilva Flasch.

From the periphery of the battlefield, a figure had seemingly blinked into view before the landing of the coup-de-grace. Though covered in meltwater-matted blood that didn't seem to be his own, the swordsman looked as though he could not be more motivated.

Hey, 'Lairea'! How's it hanging? Bit NIPPY out here HUH!?

Grunting with exertion each time he forces the foe's weaponry away from his vulnerable ally, Schilva's strength appears to be no match for the Magia's tireless, hydraulic-piston-driven strikes. Alone, it seems as though Schilva may not be enough of a match, but once again it seems as though he cared about as much for that as he did for the scorching ambient heat of the God-Searing Light's afterglow.

Come on, you! I'm your enemy! Me, the great SCHILVA FLASCH!

Even now, forced to compensate with split-second recoveries from the incising attacks of the Magia, Schilva was still shouting his glorious title for all to hear, announcing that he had now joined the fray.

Despite this illustrious to the Starcalled effort, though, Aerial would need more than one saviour to buy her time.

The chaos was enough to disorient anyone who was not used to such rowdy occasions. Distorted and glitchy vision only made matters harder for MAI to grasp as, at the same time, she tried to fight against the restraints that were wrapped around her. As remnants of electricity coursed through her, the girl's mechanical joints would twitch and move in the wrong direction, making it exceedingly difficult to get herself out of this situation. And as soon as she did, as soon as her systems that were working overtime to stabilize her functionality took effect, her arm was grabbed by @Kyanna.

"Wha-"

She had no idea why the girl was suddenly dragging her away. In the distance, she spotted @Tick Tock laying on the ground as her feet got trapped in some kind of strange sand trap. Were they leaving because the witch figured that was enough - restraining the magia? Others seemed to be rushing to her. Were they going to help instead? MAI had many questions, but in the rush of the situation, there seemed to be no time for them at all. She didn't even realize that her friend had been seriously wounded in the process. Had she, things might have gone quite differently for the fused twin magia.

"Kyanna, wait! Where are we going, what's-!!"

Suddenly, the mechanical girl realized something. Her sensors started going all out of whack once again, but not because of any kind of damage. Her sensors were picking up an insane heat signature in the distance. It only took a moment after MAI turned her head to realize what was going on. Quickly gripping Kyanna and forcibly stopping both of them, she stood in front of the black witch as the Eye of Beholder appeared right in front of its creator.

"Defensive Matrix - Maximum output!!"

❰ Omni-directional Defense Matrix ❱

A barrier of countless holographic plates surrounded the two girls as the entire battlefield became devoured by the all-consuming light. Even through the shielding, the heat was intense. In that brief moment, it made MAI happy that she managed to get in front of Kyanna. With pain limiters enabled, even as she felt portions of her artificial skin melt, she felt barely any pain at all. But the girl behind her? There was no way she would allow Kyanna to be traumatized by a pain so horrible.

"But... this is ridiculous. How are we supposed to win if they have weapons like this at their disposal?"

The enemies were abundant in the area as well. As soon as the shield faded, a volley of lasers quickly made MAI push Kyanna to the side as a wall of flames arose between them, separating the two girls.

"Kyanna... this area is too dangerous! Move around, we can regroup further back with more of the supporters and the faction leaders!"

She could only hope that the stubborn girl would not head off to the front lines instead. But just in case, she tossed a small multi-purpose drone across the wall of flames to follow the witch... yes, just in case.

Vulnerable

A bad situation was only made worse when people didn't help each other or protect one another. The battlefield was a place of chaos and pandemonium, one in which Luna hadn't taken a step in quite some time. Not since the days that she wielded arcane power with reckless abandon, much to her own detriment at the time.

But those days were over, as were the days that she pretended it was her job to cause harm and destroy foes. Instead, now she stood on the field with the new purpose of protection. There were people that needed her help, people whom she could save if she just allowed her power to reach out to them.

Spotting @MAI she released a surge of power, a wave of luminescent white energy enveloping the Magia to protect her, cushioning any blows that would land and soothing over any wounds that the girl happened to accrue. It was the least she could do.

Her friend @Vina Skysong was also on the battlefield, so there was another soul to protect. Again, a tether of white energy surged from Luna's body as she walked through the field, tethering her to Vina and wrapping around the vixen protectively.

A third tether wrapped around @Kyanna Wynne who was a stranger to her, yet evidently known to MAI at the very least, but her attention was truly captured by a different sight.

A woman in flames.

@Elizabeth Lixshine was wreathed in fire. She couldn't let that stand. Reaching for her own control over fire, she infused the aura that constantly released from her body, that white energy turning a brilliant vermillion as it wrapped around Elizabeth. Instantly, the heat of the flames would vanish, as they were slowly drawn into Luna's aura, the white tigress reaching a hand out to place it softly against Elizabeth's chest.

Allow me to deal with the flames. They won't hurt you. I won't let them.

In Danger!

Attia glanced at the fake faerin as it wrenched one of the enemies apart with its tentacles, she had questions but that could wait for another time. She kept her eyes on her surroundings, occasionally whipping her humble starting spear around to keep one enemy at bay or another. She'd never had any reason to switch from the weapon, the high durability it provided since it was newbie's tool made it useful unless she was in a more strenuous situation. That said, the damage was terrible.

She snorted internally at Hanno's greeting but kept that serene smile on her face as she moved to keep up with him. "You can thank me after this is over," She said easily, glancing at one of the corrupted magia as it got a bit to close and pinning it with a stare while drawing her wings back so they weren't in harms way. The raging machine only hesitated for a moment before it resumed its focus on Hanno. Her lip twitched involuntarily as he expressed his worries.

The tiny voice of the creature accompanying @Hanno Futaba cut in again and she regarded it thoughtfully, it had a bit more agency than she had expected. She smiled sweetly at the creature and shrugged, "I'll do what I can, this big sis is just here to help how she can," She said. "Besides, I've got a fabulous shield," She laughed and nodded to Hanno. He was certainly useful, perhaps more than he realized. She had to keep on his good side if she was going to take advantage of this later down the line.

"Now, where-"

A sudden flash of movement followed by a looming shadow caught Attia completely by surprise. Pain lanced through her and she felt herself jostled about in a terrible way. She gasped, eyes wide, and whipped her head around trying to figure out what was going on. She coughed and spotted the flank of the creature that had attacked her from out of nowhere, its body reminded of a wolf but its size was twice that of the dire wolf. Are you kidding me?! This gods damned world. Fucking wolves! She swore inwardly, slamming the side of her spear uselessly into the metal flank. She was in its mouth! How fast was this thing?

It bit down again and she coughed, a sudden weakness flashing through her. Her wings crumpled under the force and bit down on her lip, blood dripping from it. Damn this weak body! She should never have come to such a high-level area, stupid!

Conflicted & Heroic

Zelrius let the firestorm slowly calm back down, looking around not just at the singed and sparking carcasses of melted robotimites, but as well as that of the projectiles unleashed by the machines around them. Instantly reminded that this was an invasion. Not a playground, not a happy-go-lucky avengers style finale. They were in a war, afterall. Not a moment too soon did all of the dots in his head click. The man steeled himself, letting another flare up reach in a ball of fire around him. Quick to react to the ever unpredictable @Aerial as she rushed by. There was no time for thought after that, hoping that the foxgirl @Inari was still by his side as she had been a moment earily. With any lucky, she'd be on the inside of the sphere, rather than in the burning wall of it, or the outside. Letting any of the bullets and rounds sear away into half-cooked candles.

When the fire went down, Zelrius was left with a twisted, saddened frown. @Ueno Mizuki had asked of him a favor. She said she had a plan. But, did that plan outweigh the death caused by the Magia? Was @Jin right? A though back to Jester, and the redhead's foray through Vintergard. The dogs that were torn apart, the people who died in the Dragonfall. Sure, all of it was a game. Though Markus was playing the character Zelrius in this game. Someone who stood against all that was wrong. Someone who tried to do the right thing, and be the constant bulwark against the nightmare of a world that afflicted every life. Was it more prudent, more merciful to destroy them all, and be done with it? More responsible to act proactively, to snuff out any smoldering embers of threat that the Magia and this corruption might pose?

Or was mercy and compassion the option? Weakness, for the sake of saving emotionless, godless hunks of metal. On a gamble that may or may not even work. He didn't answer either. It was too hard - his head hurt. The seeds of doubt were planted by the bloodsworn, and for now, the pyromancer only knew Fire and War. That question could be better answered later.

Hellfire razed the battlefield and with it, the dwindling hopes of the Starcalled. Both literally and figuratively under fire now, they began to give ground. The Vanguard was in shambles, fighting against a sudden surge of unexpected, extremely powerful new circumstances- not the least of which was the Magia that now loomed over Jin himself.

The Bloodsworn had swelled a wave of his own blood upward and overhead, creating an awning that offered waning protection from the gargantuan foe's attack as he grit his teeth and bore the weight with sheer willpower. Wordlessly, he gestured for the others- still stunned, still processing- to vacate the area with a swipe of his arm. He could not protect them and fight the enemy. Not this enemy.

He knew what he had to do, but he needed a single instant, a moment of clarity and calm in order to do it.

Jin could see the conflict stirring in @Zelrius , which meant that what was to come would be much more interesting. It made this laborious effort all the more worthwhile. There were @Inari , @Aerial , and @Lilith , all dangerously close, who were caught up in their own distractions. If things continued like this, the Magia Szofrit would gain more than just the upper hand. Jin frowned as he placed a hand on his katana, still straining as the unfathomable pressure from the compacting force pressed against his magic, slowly forcing him downward, breaking the dirt beneath his feet, crushing the very earth. He could feel his knees beginning to buckle.

His eyes narrowed.

"I made the mistake of not killing you for good last time," he spoke in a low, venomous voice. "It won't happen again."

Interacting

Mizuki would have liked to retort to @Jin's cynical approach to the situation, but they didn't have the luxury to stand around and argue all day. She'd have to hope that @Zelrius would make the right decision, to take a risk in the present to work towards a better future. If the words of the hemomancer were enough to sway her friend... well, she'd have to deal with that in due time.

HEADS UP!

Her eyes widened and her fur bristled as she sensed the incoming attack, luck and sharp senses allowing her to get far enough away that when the God Searing Light swept across the battlefield, turning everything it touched into cinders, the luna wolf got away with mere burn wounds, breathing heavily with her tongue hanging out of her mouth.

...Fuck.

Even if the linear nature of the attack had left the majority of their forces intact, morale had been shattered to the point that many people were unwilling to continue the battle. Mizuki snarled as she watched them run away, quickly turning back to face the magia when suddenly a headache made her wince, followed by her UI showing her a window to... the enemy leader?

Her words were lofty, but the huntress growled as she spoke back, even if she didn't know whether Szofrit could even hear those she was addressing.

Judgemental words for the one who started this fight. (She jumped backwards to avoid a magia's explosive magic.) Never even considered diplomacy!

That pink elf might be the angelic type, but Mizuki had never planned to let Szofrit off without pummeling her for all the harm she'd done and the trouble she'd caused. Brainwashed or not, some percussive maintenance would be part of the attempt to fix the magia leader.

One ear twitched as she heard Jin's voice from beneath the metallic mass that was slowly crushing him, Mizuki frowning as she glanced at him from over her shoulder. He was strong, and clearly determined to pursue the lethal strategy. She'd have to keep an eye on him once they reached Szofrit.

Mizuki's wolves had faithfully been guarding their assigned targets, biting anything harmful which came too close or distracting the threat if biting wasn't effective. However, two canines couldn't hope to do anything about the God Searing Light. They might have helped their charges avoid the worst of it, but the sheer heat forced them back as well, howling as their fur threatened to burn.

The one protecting @Cleo Looker was better off, and alert enough that it reacted quickly when one of the enemies tried to turn the lancer's own weapons against her. The spear zipped through the air, intent on tearing a hole in the arcanamancer, when the wolf jumped up and grabbed the projectile, twisting his body so he flew past Cleo with the spear, rolling over the ground before recovering and standing up. With a growl he snapped the spear in half between his jaws.

The battlefield was hell and now she truly knew, in a way, what it must have felt like to be a soldier, fighting in a war, rather than just some cop patrolling the streets, the occasional gunfight with a criminal being the most excitement she might ever see in her life.

A life that had flashed oh so swiftly before her eyes as she had watched one of her own spear sailing through the air towards her, cutting a crimson streak towards her heart, where it should have and would have impaled her, as she'd impaled foes so many times before. Aiming for the center mass was effective, when you had a projectile with enough power behind it.

It was only the four legged companion of her girlfriend that saved her. The wolf that had accompanied her on the orders of @Ueno Mizuki and protected her, did so again, catching the thrown spear like it was little more than a stick.

Of course, everything had still gone to hell.

She could only spare a moment to kneel next to the canine and whisper words of thanks, hoping that they would somehow reach her lover, though she determined to see Mizuki again before the day was through.

Still, there was very little to do now, it would have seemed. Forces scattered and battered, it felt like many were losing Hope.

And yet, sometimes, all it took to restore hope was to acknowledge that somebody was still fighting.

She tugged on the power within her, that Arcane force that welled up inside, as her armor began to shift and weave. Her hair changed shades, from her usual crimson, to a kind of magenta, whilst her armor flared out, becoming more like a dress than any kind of padding or protection.

The power inside of her hesitated. Cleo did not, tugging on it, even as it burned and singed at her skin, a pillar of Arcane energy racing up into the skies above her, like a spear that was impaling the very world. It was her power, it would obey her will. She would MAKE it so.

We are NOT out of this fight yet! Everybody rally and push! Protect each other!

Words often escaped her. She had never quite been able to move hearts.

But today, she had to.

For Hope...

+35 HP from @Elizabeth Lixshine
Narrative post

Envigorated by @Elizabeth Lixshine and @Attia Patal's healing, Hanno felt a bit more free to act, energetic and determined to force his march toward the battlefield. Even his humour had improved, after the somber sight of so many people being merciless attacked in Finweald.

"Hell I will do. Next time we go to a tavern, it is all on me." Hanno grinned, just taking the opportunity to perhaps snatch a drinking buddy for after that whole hell of a mess was done.

"So your help will be very welcomed, buddy." His grin turned a bit sheepish at the compliment, rubbing the back of his head before Ghast leaned in. "I don't know, I think she was talking about me, I am the shield here~"

"I don't think so-" He narrowed his eyes, playfully, but they widened when a creature suddenly stepped in, capturing his friend with its dire fangs and dragging her away.

"Shit- Attia!" Hanno called, stretching his arm toward Ghast, that swiftly took it and hopped on his back as he darted off at full speed. "Wolves really like birds, don't they?" Ghast swayed her tentacle tail, peeking at Hanno, that huffed, trampling his way toward the wolf before holding the fake faerin and throwing her toward the construct.

Ghast widened her arms open, with her mouth opening in an endless spiral of fangs that sank deep into its legs as her limbs morphed into tentacles that caused the wolf to lose its speed, struggling to keep a proper run.

This gave Hanno the opportunity to reach it, leaping on its back, crawling rapidly to its neck and taking a firm grip on its mouth, roaring as he forced its mouth open, even if at the cost of his weakened arm to throb in pain. "Let... Her... Fucking go!" He yanked the mouth of the creature, snapping its metallic frame and making the jaws hang harmlessly while Hanno wrapped an arm around Attia and hopping off to pull her out of the creature's mouth.

The aberration growled, and Hanno thrusted his arm forward, just in time to block a pounce of the wolf, with Ghast holding it by the legs and stopping it from throwing all its weight on Hanno, making sure both him and Attia were safe.

Hanno slammed his elbow on the creature's face, and making an opening on its neck so she could perhaps pierce the magitech circuits of its 'throat'.

With the creatue defeated, Hanno would sigh, taking a glance at her.

"Are you fine, buddy?" He asked.

Imoogi glared at the wolf that @Mizuki had put on her. It was a guard, but she knew it was also there to keep an eye on her. So she wouldn't go and reveal all the bullshit those other guys were planning.

She did hear someone shouting at her, though, which made her feel better. That was an important NPC wasn't he? At least he wasn't stupid.

Unfortunately, that was the last thing she managed to catch before the world erupted in light and pain and oh god was she dying it felt like she was dying-

The light faded, but the pain remained. She moved blindly, only to step on a vial that sent her tumbling into her pile of "mystery" potions. The pain was replaced with an overwhelming mix of hot and cold, stinging and numbing. She hissed, groping blinding for one of the vials on her belt and poured it into her mouth.

Mixing in even more potions was probably a bad idea, but the painful clarity pushed the flood of other sensations back for a bit. Her gaze darted from bottle to bottle before she swore and grabbed the hand catapult. There were still a few good potions in there, which she loaded into the weapon.

"SUPPLY DROP INCOMING!"

And with the shout, she began to fling glass bottles. Sure, they'd break and might hurt them, but it was the fastest way to deliver the payload.

And, well... if she purposely targeted the familiar flash of pink hair or the wolf-woman in the crowd, then they couldn't complain, right? She was supporting. This was what supporting looked like, obviously.

Gee whiz, is that it Szozo? More showing off the same tricks over and over? I've seen that episode before. I'm a growing girl even if stuck this way for now... it's been 5 months grandma. Learn to astral harder.

"Be free"

The image of the red magia fled Magi's mind as the man spoke. Magi glanced at Erick squeezing her hand and looking at something. The searing light had passed but nothing else mattered right now. As if filling in the blanks of forgotten memory, what just happened flooded Magi's consciousness.

What a mindfuck.

He had seen...
How dare he...
He had no right to look into her like that...

Erick t- N̴͇̳̘̱̼̠̠̪̖̻̩̘̻̗͆͑̌͐o̷̝̼̞̗͔͚͖̞̜͋̕

Ericks mind would feel like it was being pulled apart from the inside as a force grasped at him and held him tight. Blood dripped from his eyes, nose and ears. Wendel held onto his hand and did not let go. She was confused. Confused enough to not think of Szofrit if only for this one moment.

"̴M̴r̵.̷ ̸S̴t̴r̴y̴k̵e̶r̷,̸ ̸y̴o̶u̴ ̶d̴o̷n̶'̴t̸ ̵l̷o̴o̷k̶ ̵s̴o̵ ̴g̴o̶o̷d̴.̴ ̷H̷e̴r̸e̷ ̸u̷s̷e̴ ̵t̷h̷a̴t̷ ̶p̴a̵i̷n̸ ̴a̶n̷d̸ ̴h̵e̴l̶p̷ ̴m̸e̶ ̷h̶e̴l̶p̷ ̴y̷o̶u̸.̷ ̸A̶ ̸m̶a̷g̵i̷c̴a̸l̸ ̶g̵i̵r̵l̵ ̷c̵a̷n̶ ̴h̵a̸v̴e̴ ̶a̴ ̶k̸n̶i̴g̵h̴t̶.̸ ̵S̴o̴ ̵f̸o̸r̵ ̷n̶o̵w̴,̷ ̵y̴o̸u̴ ̶c̵a̵n̶ ̴b̵e̷ ̸m̸i̵n̵e̸ ̸̸.̴"̶

Removing her hand from his, she formed a heart with her hands much like Magi did to use her roleplay inspired Pure Heart magic long ago. Blood pink energy filled it as she spread her fingers and the negative energy went to the chronomancer. He would have the power of dissonance with her to face the Magia Mother. For how it would impact him and for how long...? That was never an easy answer.

Now then it was time to resume... salvation.

<Whether or not Magi's "buff" for @Erick Stryker is actual or not will depend on her action post later>

Kyanna continued to rush, having @MAI held by the hand, tugging her along desperately. "F-Far!" She responded, swallowing. "Far from her, far from them-- They are... They were always out of control, but now they are more out of control!" Panic was in her voice, with her heart throbbing.

Without her noticing, a dangerous strike came at their direction, but the magia that she held was quick to pull her in a protective stance, with the explosion being mostly mitigated by the magitech shield her friend provided.

A scream echoed, and Kyanna shielded her eyes, twitching her eyebrows as she peered over, only to see an incoming laser that only didn't slice the witch in half because MAI pushed her away from its path, along with @Luna Avalbane's protective magic that protected Kyanna from any harm from side effects.

"M-Mai?!"

She called for her friend, but with the soaring fire parting their ways, she could only barely hear MAI's instructions, that she certainly couldn't take on right now.

"We..." Kyanna clenched her fist shut. "We are going to meet soon." She said, turning around before rushing, only managing to give Luna a thankful nod before she continued to dart off deeper into the battlefield.

...

From afar, she could see @Magi Heart. There was still a lot of ground to be covered, and while she did try to rush toward her friend in an attempt to aid her, she couldn't ignore the sight of @Hanasakura Okami being abducted by a metallic bird, bringing her high up to the skies.

"H-HEY!" She gritted her teeth, swirling her totally-not-a-broomstick staff with an enchantment that sprouted two wings out from the wood stick before she hopped on it, propelling herself upwards in a flight as she desperately tried to reach her.

She couldn't let the one that helped her to save MAI to just be killed like that.

She understood of Beast Arts enough to understand what was the plan of the creature, and in a swirl of her hand, she gestured at the bird.

"Presto Change-o!"

The claws of the bird suddenly distorted, turning slimy and lacking a solid grip, allowing the captured girl to fall.

Kyanna maneuvered her broomstick, snatching her midair and tugging her so she wouldn't fall.

"Th-There we go!"
She sighed in relief, making her way closer to the ground, casting a gaze to her as she found a way to the safety. "Make sure to take cover, it is very dangerous around here!"

Ash growled at the flickering image of Szofrit in his UI. Of course she would start monolouging at them. "The only reason we're 'distracted' is because of you-"

The transmission cut suddenly. What followed was enough to shock him out of his frustration. A familiar face, a familiar voice, a golden egg....

"...Emmy?"

When they'd faced the Calculator, they'd "hatched" the virtual Golden Egg, hatching an entity even Null didn't seem to understand. A simulation of a "keychild", like what Szofrit was trying to hatch. A "glitch", one he hadn't seen since their group had broken up...

Ash made a frustrated attempt to use his UI, but it continued to jitter and dart faster than he could keep up with. Damn thing's more of a hindrance than a help at this point.

He took off across the battlefield, looking for any familiar faces. He couldn't be the only one that recognized her, right? If it was her, or if it was something even remotely related, then that meant something. It was a goal, and one that would be easier to rally people around than the old plan...

As Ash searched the battlefield, he hit the jackpot. @Luthien and @Yugam were together, of course, but @Harper was there too. He came to a halt, looking a little more frantic than usual.

"Hey! You saw that, right? That bit at the end? That looked like Em- the keychild from the simulation!" The emotions leaked by his primal aura were as tangled as his words - a mess of confusion and fear and just a little bit of hope. "If she's asking for help, then something must be happening with the golden egg!"

He had no idea what to do with that knowledge. Maybe the others had some ideas.

Protecting [ @Rael ], [ @Tick Tock ], [ @Harper ]
Vulnerable

Tick Tock being saved was only one success on a long list of things that still needed to be done. And Asher could feel that weight pressing down on him, attempting to bow his shoulders and flay his mind with doubt. He and Rael had talked big game before, had preached and hollered about saving Sassafrass so that something worse wouldn't peek their head in and destroy the world as they knew it. But preaching and doing are two different things, a saying that his mother was fond of.

Don't talk up checks that your ass couldn't cash.

Steadying himself, a secret smile holding onto the corners of his mouth, he gives Tick Tock a long once over before nodding, having found something that he was looking for or merely having come to an internal decision about something. He exhales, steam billowing from his nostrils, cerise eyes narrowing at the Magia woman opposite of him.

I don't know how long this'll last or how far out, but it should help with whatever is coming, he tells her. A small sliver of his essence wraps around her, an ethereal shield protecting her from harm. He jerks his head and the same translucent energy wraps around Rael before the scent of leather would fill both of their nostrils.

Time to head to the front, he murmurs, stooping to scoop up Rael and adjust her upon his back. He gives Tick Tock a single nod before he begins moving, his sturdy steps carrying them where people needed them most. And by them, Asher meant Rael.

You should become a Lion, he says, lifting his voice over the sound of the wind and the screams and the gunfire. War was hell.

You'd make a good Lion.

So far things were going fairly well: they had to endure casualties no matter how much effort Vina and the other healers put into keeping the frontline alive, but as the battle raged on the magia which had been corrupted and brainwashed were either incapacitated, eliminated, or rescued by friends.

What... is that?

Vina's ears twitched as she noticed a distinct shift in the air patterns, from high above. An extreme heat source was building up, causing the air to rapidly expand and push outwards. As she gazed up at the God Searing Light her azure eyes went wide, a cold sweat breaking out even amidst the heat of battle as the vixen stepped backwards, then turned around.

RUN!

Her voice carried far, and she liked to think that some of the people who heard her survived because they managed to get out of the way. Vina herself wasn't in the attack's path, but she was pushed backwards by the winds that swept across the battlefield as thunder roared in her ears, the songstress doing her best to protect her sensitive auditory organs with her hands.

Nobody had been able to ignore that attack, no matter how brave or determined they were. Around her people were retreating quickly, but what caught Vina's attention even more so were all the people who wouldn't be able to retreat any longer... and her friend, who looked like she might join them quickly.

FINA!

Pushing herself upright Vina quickly ran over to where her friend was struggling with a hole in her torso.

Hold on, I'll patch you up!

With no time to waste Vina held one hand above the wound, humming a melody which was both fervent and uplifting. Her magic flowed into the armsmaster, encouraging her flesh to knit itself together.

Vina's gaze didn't waver until Fina was no longer in any danger, but then she swept it across the battlefield, noting how more than anything else the Starcalled and their allies had lost their nerve in the face of such an omnipotent threat.

That wouldn't do: as a bard she couldn't let their morale be lost like that.

Procuring her violin the vixen took a deep breath before putting the bow to the snares, several songs flashing through her mind before she settled on one which would have the appropriate effect. As she began to play the music flowed from her, the winds carrying it to every corner of the battlefield. A song of valour and glory, of rising up to stand against the encroaching evil in the surety that all that was good and decent would prevail in the end.

Those who already knew this, who were carving up their own flesh to bring about that promised victory, would be affected above all: the health they so selflessly threw away would be returned to them, a gift from the songstress to those who would dedicate body and soul to a brighter tomorrow.

Just a wee little postie to get Jin on his feet again

"@Nyx! Nyx!!"

Fuck me and the horse I rode in on. The piece of shit leading this assault on us had that goddamn laser that nearly glassed the canyon after we defeated Rapid Response. I had barely escaped that with my life; this time, I was lucky enough to be blinded and have my ear drums completely obliterated.

"NYYYYYX! Where the hell ARE YOU?!"

Searching for survivors among the scrap and ash was going to be a lost cause. I can feel it. My ass is lucky that I stayed back far enough. Getting my boots covered in the blood of my enemies is fun and all--but not when it's a whole-ass army of things that can hyperfocus you down to neat little meat cubes. I am not risking my life for this stupid fucking game; and I know I still have two I can spare.

"NYX!" Goddammit--my foot caught on the carbonized arm of some unlucky sonuvabitch. Magia or Starcalled, I couldn't tell. I kicked it aside and continued to stumble my way across the battlefield.

And nearly bumped into the damn thing.

A bite-sized round boy, very similar to one of the three bots of Rapid Response that @Jin and I had helped take down. Underneath its shiny metal boot? Said spooky man, desperately fighting the attempt to be crushed into pulp.

A very anticlimactic way to die.

I wasted no time emptying my holsters and dumping all twelve rounds into the war machine. Sparks flew as bullets shredded metal and cut through circuitry. The robot stumbled back a few steps and fell to the earth, the lights in its eyes fading away in mere moments.

"Get your ass up," I spat as I quickly reloaded my six-shooters. "Going down like a bitch before the final boss even shows their face? Shame you can't rez from dying of embarrassment." I stuck out a hand to help him off the ground. "I don't have any heals slotted--but we can probably find you someone to patch those wounds of yours if you need 'em. Should be a few healers milling around the backline."

Kamala’s heart filled with gladness when she saw the three of them reunited once more. She felt grateful for any time she can spend working and playing with her friends. What she wasn’t grateful for was the horrifying burst of light that sent the others scattering, the same others who were lucky enough to get evaporated by the intense heat of that blast.

From the corner of her eye, before she instinctively ducked and looked away to protect her sight, she saw Chrys, who had put himself in front of them for their protection, get blasted away like he weighed nothing. Kamala began panicking, her face still on the ground, a cold sweat washing over her. If that mountain of a man could be easily cast aside like that, how could she withstand further punishment from their enemy. N-No…

W-We can’t lose…
And then she caught a glimpse of @Ayna Nietzsche struggling, wincing in pain, as she found her legs caught in a trap. Eyes wide in horror, Kamala cast aside all fears and concerns, rushing quickly to her friend’s side and helping free the purple-haired rabbit from the bear trap.

Once Ayna was freed, Kamala looked around them. So many have been lost, so many have been beaten and broken down, so many have fled the fight to protect themselves or maybe spend their remaining time with loved ones… Kamala could not blame them, not anyone, but she could try and give Hope to those that remained to fend off the rogue machines. She was a healer. She was going to keep healing.

Rising back to her feet, she began to hum her spell, arms extended to opposite sides. Kamala called forth the mending spirits of harmonious nature to help her manifest a powered-up version of the “Garden of Gwyndolainn,” a half-remembered healing sanctuary from an unfamiliar dream, which works more like a shielding barrier that should heal those affected before it inevitably fades back into the haunting memories of a place never visited but always thought of.

A couple of familiar faces—@Chrys, @Zelrius, @Langley—would then witness graceful swirls of green and white light dancing in the air with phantasmal green leaves wafting around each of them. Only they would be able to hear a whimsical and playful tune playing throughout, as a sensation of gentle warmth and the smell of spring flowers wash over them.
