Out of all the places in Astorea, Spyre was certainly one of the hardest to reach; the town was built on the caprock of a towering Plateau. Not that height is a problem for Moonsong, but it took ages to even reach this place due to the bad transportation infrastructure. Flying up directly costs a lot of magic, which is not ideal.

The path was too steep for carriages, so she opted to travel by horse. And even by traveling with horse standard, it's still a long way up; it's not like she could Skyrim her way up to the mountain with them.

Although the town itself was not large, the people living there are quite well-off from the rare ore mining; the primary business of the area. Recently, they have had difficulties getting in and out of the town because of reports of wyvern attacks. Naturally, the factions quickly send their capable members to sort out this problem, as they probably wouldn't want ore shortages.

"Reports of occasional attacks by a horde of small wyverns around the area," She raised her right eyebrow at the paper she was holding, "Small wyverns, huh." Small wyverns don't hunt around human territories, as they are too scared of humans. Where's the adult wyvern?

Weird.

With a hefty bounty, of course Moonsong took the job without further delay. "We're here." She's not alone in this investigation, though, as other travelers with different goals are joining her. With heavy steps, they arrived at the mining town of Spyre.

"What do you mean ‘A wyvern ate it…?’" A clean-looking magia girl with a cold gaze questioned a panicked a miner behind a small counter. "The key…?" Her eyes narrowed even further. "Then why did it eat the key…!?" A slap resounded from her forehead as her hand struck it full-force. "Fine, but if I can’t find it, let’s just bust open the vault the hard way, alright? Honestly…"

Turning away, the slightly-irritated-looking magia noticed the lady approach town, holding a bounty paper with crude wyvern drawings on it. "Well, that’s convenient."

Stepping up, Tristaria waved a short hello, calling out to her. "Hey, I can’t help but notice you’re hunting wyverns?" Was that a kill quest? Hard to see from here. "The idiot over there left the vault key on his wife’s— you know what, it doesn’t matter. I need to extract a small metal object from a wyvern’s stomach, so if you need a competent support unit, I’m available."

There was work to do in the mountains of Astorea. That was the premise that brought him to Spyre, despite the nigh intolerable heat even in the dead of night. The humidity was low, even more so than on the Plains. It felt dry, arid, not unlike a desert, and the distinct, acrid flavor of metallic rock lingered in the air. He had smelled something like this near the quarries in his home city during the hottest season of the year, but never thought to get closer to inspect the source.

Upon closer inspection and questioning some of the locals, the nature of the beast became apparent. This was a mining town in the dry season, and they were having some trouble with fires breaking out suddenly. On top of that, he learned, they were having an even more pressing, immediate issue.

With miners on staff to at least alleviate some of the burden of firewatch, the job of patrol fell to adventurers willing to take on work. They were tasked with dealing with a menace no one expected--

"Reports of occasional attacks by a horde of small wyverns around the area."

Erick flinched. Wyverns had always been draconic in his mind. Even the smallest of them seemed like a daunting foe. He glanced toward the woman who mentioned them and opened his mouth to speak, but someone else interjected first.

"Hey, I can't help but notice you're hunting wyverns?"

Two people. Two other people were apparently working on the same task as him. It was time to speak up before someone else took the gig, and he became unnecessary baggage. "Hey, so, Wyverns," he said, making finger guns at the two ladies as he slid with feigned confidence into the conversation as if he'd belonged there.

It didn't take long to divine that he did not.

"...right," he cleared his throat. "I'm here about the wyverns too, but the whole situation sounds a little uncharacteristic based on the information they provided. They're not an invasive species, so the fact that they're attacking unprovoked doesn't make much sense. If you guys are keen, I'd like to dig into that a bit deeper?"

He scratched his head. "I just think it'd be a shame if we shoot first and ask questions later."

Perfect timing. Just as she entered the town, it looked like another adventurer's been having other problems with the wyverns too. How the fuck did a wyvern eat a key anyway? "Not exactly a hunting quest," Moonsong informed the magia, showing her the paper. "Though I don't mind killing two birds with one stone. Problem is, which one of the many wyverns?"

As they pondered on the matter, a third party came and interrupted them with finger guns pointed at them, like he was making an introduction in a nightclub; but this town definitely isn't one. "Yeah, wyverns. What about it?" The brunette deadpanned, staring at him intently. It was not long before the guy revealed that he was also on the trail of the winged beasts.

Huh, now that she found a team, maybe they can conduct a more proper investigation.

"I don't mind." She expressed her opinion, before introducing herself to the other two. "Moonsong."

"First, we might need to ask around about the wyverns; where they might live, etc. The paper doesn't have any info on them."
She looked at the male, asking him to share what he might know about the beasts. "You seemed to know more than a handful about them."

The brunette then asked some of the miners passing around the town. No one knows exactly where the wyverns' nest is, but judging by their physiology, they might lurk deeper into the hotter part of the quarry; the beasts' scales and wings have adapted to the heat, creating mineral layers on the outer parts of their body. "Hm, haven't heard of these kinds. Rare subspecies?" She raised an eyebrow, looking at her teammates if they know something about it.
