She leaned over the fence slightly, her eyes roaming over the fields that stretched into the distance, disappearing over the horizon in a golden shimmer. A soft wind carried over the fields, causing them to sway in the wind. It was a view that some would call absolutely picturesque, in the right circumstances.

Unfortunately for Kyra, she hadn't come across them in those circumstances. She had just finished a four-hour long conversation with a few of the locals who had somehow figured out that she was one of the Starcalled. The elderly folk had come to the conclusion that she would have the solution to all their problems, and had carried her towards finally agreeing to try and find some sort of way to help them.

"Lot of good that will do...wouldn't even know where to start with all of this. "

She sighed heavily again as she stood from the fence. The view was gorgeous. Too bad it's ruined by constantly being required to do things. Although I guess it is helping people, but what in the hells do I know about farming? Much less figuring out how to resolve...

"...all this. What a problem to walk in to..."

"This might help. Hydration always helps me feel a bit more refreshed and present in the moment."

As Kyra was having her moment, a voice would suddenly sound behind her, and a cold metallic object was gently pushed against her cheek from the same direction. Nothing to be afraid of - just a special bottle constructed with magitech in such a way that it would keep the liquid inside warm even in the coldest temperature. It was slowly getting cold outside, after all. And since MAI decided to give her metallic body some more normalcy with one of the available Magia traits, she kept such things around nowadays.

It also seemed that she had a bit of a knack for surprising people. Hours ago, she arrived at this part of Falderen - full of farms and their golden fields. It was all part of the girl's exploration of this strange new world, witnessing just how truly alive it seemed and how real the lives of NPCs appeared to be. It was toward this little exploration of hers that she spotted Kyra in the distance, looking awfully troubled. And so, she approached, footsteps unheard as she floated slightly above the ground with the help of arcanamancy.

When the fox healer turned around to face the Magia, it would be at a moment when she finally fully descended onto the ground. And unlike the last time they saw each other, MAI was no longer wearing beginner gear. Instead, her figure was draped in a long cloak that completely hid away her Magia traits. Only if someone looked very closely would they be able to see the mechanical hair piece, as well as the coverings of the girl's ears.

"Hello. We meet again. You looked troubled... not paranoid like last time, but still troubled. Is everything alright?"

Kyra snapped around at the touch of the cool metal, her hand dropping towards her hip even as she took in the appearance of the cloaked individual who had appeared behind her. Her eyes squinted for a moment, before a broad smile spread across her face. The girl might have been more covered, better equipped, but Kyra recognised the Magia that she had met not so long ago.

"MAI...it was MAI, right? It's good to see you again! I see you've changed your outfit a bit. It fits you well! Nice to see you've decided to stick around a bit, and that you're looking okay..."

Her brow furrowed as the Magia mentioned the concern that Kyra had clearing been showing just moments ago. Was the tension inside her that obvious? Good to know...can be read like an open book here, I guess...

A flick of her tail and she sent the thoughts away, focusing instead on the conversation at hand. She tried to clear away the frown that had developed, putting an uncertain grin in its place instead - likely not appearing any more relaxed than she had been moments ago, but clearly showing an attempt at faking it.

"Mmm...yeah...I mean there's always something here, in this place. But...some of the locals figured out I'm one of the Starcalled, somehow, and came to me with a problem...seems all the younger folk of the village have left for grandeur in the big cities, leaving all the elderly to handle the farmwork. Which, doesn't really work well with them being old and all...but apparently, these fields feed the majority of the areas around here, so if they can't farm...no food for kilometres around...could be a serious problem for the Landers."

Her eyes roamed over the fields once more, before she let out a heavy sigh. How was she supposed to solve this problem?

"They asked me if I had any solutions for their problem...but aside from doing it all myself - which likely isn't even possible - I've got nothing..."

She got recognized, that was good. It'd be rather awkward if she had to re-introduce herself, but it seemed that she left a good enough impression the first time around. So when the name was mentioned, she nodded in confirmation.

"Thank you. Though the primary reason I got an outfit like this was to hide that I'm a Magia. People told me a few times that Landers are not always welcoming of us because of how different and new we are. I didn't think my choices in character creation would be this impactful."

But she didn't really care. This was a fantasy game, which meant a lot of cool and cute clothes that she could try on. Not to mention that she was always a fan of these types of clothes that could make just about anyone seem mysterious by covering most of their body. That aside, however, she listened to Kyra's woes as she started fiddling with the container, opening it up and pouring its content inside a small cup. Once the fox was done explaining, she offered the cup to her.

"Herbal tea. Made it myself, but it tastes pretty good." She paused for a moment to see if she took the cup or not. "It makes sense that young people do not want to be bound by the old generation. I guess the game mimics how it is in the physical world"

It also explained why the crops were still present this late into the year. Most of them were supposed to be already harvested. Thankfully it appeared that the weather was holding up just fine, so there were no issues. But once the biting cold would come? Well, if they really relied on those crops that much... starvation, probably.

"I understand the predicament. Even if we do it all for them, it's not gonna solve the problem in the long term. Maybe you could help me apply my magitech to whatever tools they already have to improve them, make them easier to use?"

She accepted the cup of tea, sipping at it softly before staring down at it in surprise. It wasn't anything like what she had expected, no bitter taste, an almost sweetness left on her tongue after she'd already swallowed it. Enjoyable.

"Magitech...I'm not sure how the population would take to that. Like you mentioned, Magia aren't...very well accepted. But..."

She glanced out over the field, considering everything as she weighed her options. The plan was decent, if she could just get the older folk to accept it.

"Desperate times force one to reconsider their position..."

She hadn't meant to say the phrase aloud. She straightened as she glanced over at the Magia girl, a soft grin on her face as she nodded towards MAI.

"You know what...I think you could definitely help. It might even make people appreciate Magia a bit more - which...who knows, maybe it's one of the tipping points of getting rid of some of the more...well, racist behaviours, for lack of a better term."

She gave one last glance at the field, before turning and leading MAI towards the village itself. She wasn't sure if it was going to work, but it was worth a try if nothing else.

"Come on, we need to find Nymmie...she was the individual who first approached me. Out of all of them, I think she's the most desperate...and therefore the most likely to accept the plan we're about to offer them."

Kyra certainly had a point. At the same time, however, the upgrades could have been concealed in some way. The issue was that MAI didn't exactly know what kind of technology existed in this fictional universe. How far along were inhabitants of TerraSphere technologically? Surely they weren't so far behind as to be doing everything by hand, going into the fields with scythes and gathering it all that way. Right..?

She nodded to the fox and moved alongside her. Racism, hm? Somehow, the girl never thought about it that way. She simply saw it as people being afraid of something new and unfamiliar. But then again, if such fear rooted in and infested the mind... perhaps she was right to call it as such then? It was an interesting thought, not to mention how common of a theme it was in fantasy worlds with a multitude of races.

"Even if they'd be opposed to the use of Magitech, I think I could still help. Out there in the physical world, I actually live in what used to be a farmhouse. My grandparents even still have a potato field, so I know a thing or two about farming."

Given how desperate Kyra seemed at the start, she probably had no clue about any of this. And yet, the locals threw those troubles at her simply because she was a Starcalled... well, to them, Starcalled must have been like a demi-god. Capable of learning so many different masteries, capable of simply vanishing from the world almost whenever... suddenly, the complexity of the whole game started weighing on the Magia's mind.

"Okay. I'm not the best at... talking. So if possible, can I leave negotiations to you? So we don't both get chased away because I said something wrong."

Kyra glanced over at the other girl, smiling slightly as she admitted her lesser skill in communicating. She nodded, although she herself knew that she wasn't the best in talking either. Still, one of them had to take the lead on it, and it looked that was being placed on Kyra.

"Yeah...I got this. I'm not entirely sure how they'll take to the whole Magitech thing, but honestly...they seemed pretty desperate to me. So maybe they'll jump at anything that offers them salvation. That's the hope at least..."

A hope that was dwindling ever so slightly with each step towards the small village. She knew that the older generations especially were against the idea of using anything Magitech - not that she could blame them, especially after everything she'd seen.

They'd found the woman Kyra had originally spoken with in the central part of the village, apparently deeply focused on some sort of sewing job. The piece appeared to have been started recently, and Kyra's limited knowledge of the art left her with no guesses as to what was being made.

"Hey, Nymmie...I have a friend here who may have a solution for your whole harvesting issue...this is MAI, and she's got some interesting ideas on how you can possibly incorporate...uhm...magical effects into the tools in order to make them easier to use..."

She shrugged at MAI, hoping the explanation didn't sound too stupid. She felt like she was somehow talking down to the woman, even if she hadn't been meaning to, something she hoped that Nymmie wouldn't pick up on.

"Magic...bah. Magic ain't never helped no one round here. What we need is a good, solid way to make things go easier! 'Sides, none of us are magical people, so we're not gonna be able tah operate no magic once you leave...how's that help us in the longer runnin'?"

Desperation, huh? The only problem was that some elderly people felt like they had little to lose at the point in life they were at. Still, it was indeed worth a try. MAI would follow Kyra all the way to the older lady, looking her over with her mechanical doll-like eyes. She was quickly reminded of her own grandparents over in the physical world. It made her show her finest smile.

"Good day! My apologies, I'll explain a bit better - it's not really magic but science. Just the same was as adding wheels to a cart to make it move better, I might be able to improve any farming equipment you already have. It won't change how it works at all."

Magitech was fueled by magic, as well as channeling it... but it in itself was not magic. Perhaps the woman would be more receptive to the idea when it was phrased like that? She had to wait and gauge the old woman's reaction. Though, she was also interested in the knitting. Squatting down, she observed the process for a bit.

"I am familiar with how hard farming is. There might be some small extra costs like buying special magic batteries, but if it will allow you to keep working until you convince some of the young blood to stay and help you... I think it will be better than fearing starvation this Winter."

Kyra stepped back as MAI took the lead on the conversation, explaining the difference between magic, and what upgrades she was looking to incorporate into the farming equipment. She had to admit, for someone who had stated they weren't great at speaking, MAI's explanation was far better than anything Kyra could have provided to the elderly woman.

Nymmie had placed her knitting work down, eyeing up the Magia girl with squinted eyes. A soft humming came from the older woman's throat, before she finally spoke in response. Her voice was crackly, signifying the age of the speaker, far more than the appearance did.

"You're one of them robot-people, aren't you? Those folks who are more machine than actual person?"

Kyra felt her tail droop as the woman seemed to glare at MAI, worried that they were going to get a negative response. She had hoped this would be the solution, even though she was aware that the people here were far less welcoming than other areas of the world. The fact that they had accepted help from Kyra alone was surprising, but she had made her intentions fairly well known, having healed a few of the individuals in the village itself previously.

"We don't normally like your kind...bring a lot of damage, a lot of problems with you. Never any good. Always rampaging, causing destruction. I've heard the stories, from afar, about how your kind have caused so much havoc."

Kyra raised her hand as she spoke up, a hesitant smile on her face as she began speaking in MAI's defence.

"Well, in MAI's defence she's fairly new to the area, and I've known her for a bit now and can speak to her..."

She slowed to a halt as Nymmie glared at her, a slight scowl on her face. Ears pinned back against her head, and tail tucked against her back, Kyra took a half-step backwards to try and escape the older woman's aggressive gaze.

"I was bout to say...we normally wouldn't trust ya, but things are a bit...dire, round here. I don't think we gots much of a choice in the matter anymore, and if you gots solutions that will help us get these fields harvested, well...whom am I to say nah to that?"

She gave a wave of her hand, clearly dismissing the two as she turned back to her knitting. Kyra gave a slight tug on MAI's shirt, before leading her away from the area and towards a nearby barn. She had been in here once before, when she'd first spoken with the elderly of the area.

She carefully pulled the door open as they arrived, sliding it to the side just enough to allow them to enter before slipping inside herself. Inside, was a collection of various farm tools - everything from hand-held scythes, to push-based tilling machines, and even pull-based wagons and assorted vehicles. What was lacking, was anything that could be handled through any sort of motorised, or self-propelled means.

Kyra wandered towards the centre, waving a hand around the area as she went, trying to draw MAI's attention to all of it.

"This is what they've got to work with...all of it requires them to either handle it manually, or have some sort of beast hooked up to it. Which would be fine...if all the younglings hadn't taken the beasts to get to town..."

The old woman recognized what she was? Now that was surprising, given all the clothing that the Magia wore specifically to hide away her true nature. The only real sign that remained were her artificial eyes, but many didn't notice even from short distances. Perhaps both of the girls underestimated this granny's eyesight quite a bit. But since the cat was out of the bag, the girl went ahead and pulled back her hood, revealing the typical headpiece that near-all magia had.

"Thank you."

That was all she said as she knew it would be pointless to say much more. Verbal reassurances did not do much, the elderly woman would have to see and experience the labor of their effort to change her mind at all. Standing back up, the Magia followed Kyra all the way to the shed, where their goal lay for now. Thank goodness that her synthetic body wasn't allergic to dust, like her real self out in the physical world.

"Went about as well as it could have, I think. As for the tools, the absence of animals will make it more difficult, but not impossible."

Walking toward the center as well, MAI would twirl around as her feet suddenly stopped touching the ground. Kyra, too, would feel a gentle breeze surround her. It almost felt as if the girl had the perfect combination of masteries for this.

"The core of my abilities is formed by Magitech. But I also have Aeromancy that will harness winds and push carts ahead. Together with Arcanamancy which controls gravity, these tools will become light enough to be manipulated by the wind and the elderly folk."

Kyra watched as MAI stepped forward, then began to float into the air, propelled by the Aeromancy that Kyra could smell coming off her. It was weird how natural it had become, sensing the magical abilities of others - at least those that she was familiar with.

"Hey...that's a genius idea...can I help in any way? I've got a bit of skill with Aeromancy too...perhaps I could influence the power of your own induction, provide a more stable...err...something?"

Halfway through her sentence she realised she had no idea what she was talking about. This was far beyond her domain of expertise. She worked with the living, the flesh, not with the mechanical things that those people used. At best, she could follow MAI's lead, her directions towards the end goal, but she'd be no use to her suggesting things beyond her understanding.

"You know...if you manage to get this to work, it's really going to make a difference in how these people view outsiders. How they view the Magia...it might actually be a huge change in their general behaviours. Maybe not at first, but given enough time..."

She shrugged, smiling as she glanced over at MAI, hoping that her point was getting across. It was always the smallest of actions, that made the largest of changes. Simply helping these elderly folk out, providing them with something that they could see was good, well...who knows, it might have some serious impact on how they treat others in the future.

MAI couldn't help but chuckle as she heard Kyra try her best to follow along with the technical conversation. Even if she didn't understand it much, TerraSphere was different from the physical world. A person didn't need to have extensive education in a specific field to grasp something here... the game itself could guide a person through things, as long as everything was compatible.

"Yeah, I think you can help. The Aeromancy part will come later, though. For now... if you could hold that cart for me, that would make things a lot easier for me."

One would think that a machine was quite strong, physically - being made out of metal and synthetic muscles. But MAI wasn't particularly strong... sturdy, sure! But she could only lift so much while also working on assembling a magitech engine at the same time. Approaching one of the carts, she would pull it out together with the fox healer, and once it was held straight and up, she would quickly gather some stray metallic objects around.

From there, a lot of the things were attributed to the system. Sure, magitech did share some common ground with engineering from the physical world, but due to the involvement of magic, there were also many things that just had to be left to the game. It guided MAI's hands until a basic motor was made, and affixed to the wooden cart. A single battery was sticking out from it.

"Here... could you try to fill it up with your magic, using Aeromancy specifically?"

MAI was quick to take over, charging Kyra with the help that she needed. Amused, but not about to argue it, she began completing the tasks that were asked of her, moving throughout the barn in an attempt to assist what was likely something she would never truly understand, but was interesting enough to see regardless.

"Yeah, I can do that...just a gradual burst of it, nothing too powerful, right?"

She gave a slight flick of her tail, causing a gust of wind to snap across the barn towards the required area. Her tail continued to flick harshly as she brought the wind up to a consistent current, adjusting whenever MAI corrected her, but otherwise maintaining the magic for as long as was required.

"So...by doing this, we'll be giving them tools...that they can basically use with the winds? Like...a sail boat, kind of thing?"

She had to shout a bit over the concussive winds, her voice filled with distraction as she tried to focus on maintaining the magic and the conversation at the same time. She had to admit, she was extremely impressed with MAI's work, the girl clearly knew what she was doing.

So Kyra was channeling Aeromancy through her tail? That was interesting. MAI gave a nod to signify that she was indeed doing things correctly and that she should keep going. The battery was relatively small, so they didn't have to keep at it for too long. And while small, it would likely last for at least two whole harvests before they'd have to secure a new one. And who knew what state the world would even be in two whole harvests from now.

As enough magic filled the small container, the Magia secured it and raised her hand to signify that the fox healer could stop for now. Although she might have also noticed that the purple-haired girl kept staring at the fluffy tail throughout the entire process. For now, however, the engine was more or less finished. One of many, likely. Still, some testing would be preferred before it was handed over to the elderly. Testing and thorough explanation.

"Something like that. It's not too different from a combustion engine from our world... whereas that generates small explosions in a chamber to make pistons move and generate force. This kind of engine will use magic to rush winds inside of it and move pistons instead, all the while the burden of gravity is lightened."

Was that a good explanation? She had no idea, so she just kinda stared at Kyra with expectations filling her artificial eyes, wanting to make sure that her partner here wasn't feeling too lost even if this was far from her field of expertise.

Pistons. Engines. Mechanical things. All the things that Kyra understood in theory, but...well, she'd never actually spent any time working with. It was one of those things that you learnt about, through commonplace information, but that she could likely never explain in detail if ever asked.

"Mmm...I think I get the basics of it. An interesting concept, really. I definitely should've paid more attention to how mechanisms and technology in general work...my expertise lies with people. "

She gave another flick of her tail, a small breeze causing her hair to swish in response, before she cocked her head and smiled.

"So...do we take it out for a test drive, or something? Make sure that it's actually working and won't like...blow up on the old folks once we leave? I feel like that would leave a bad impression."

She glanced over the piece that they had been working on, wondering if it was even complete. They'd filled up a battery...but Kyra hadn't seen any other work being done. Not that she would be able to pinpoint what was needed, in this case. She simply didn't know enough about these sorts of things to make any judgement call. In the end, she was along for the ride, here to provide assistance when guided towards what needed to be done - and make sure that they were able to sell it at the end of the day.

"That's fine too, isn't it? I went to an engineering highschool in the physical world, so I know about these things in addition to some personal experience. But working with people is also important."

MAI was never much of a people person. Thankfully she has gotten much better in the last few years, though it often still heavily showed that she was quite the introvert. The blanket of VR allowed for a more extroverted side of her to blossom, but it could not change her nature fully, that was simply not possible. But ultimately, everyone was different... and everyone had their own expertise. There must have been may things that Kyra could do and the Magia girl could not.

"Engine and its source of energy, connection, wheels. We can take it out and try it once all three are done... in just a moment."

Hopping off the cart itself, MAI took a few more metal bars and started transforming them using her magitech. In the end, they ended up as two connectors between the engine and the wheels of the cart, running alongside the structure from underneath. That was, it would not get in the way of anything put on the cart. In a way, she had just created a basic framework of a modern car.

"Mm, done. We can take it out now. An explosion... would be bad. But also highly unlikely. Wind usually does not explode, as far as I've seen."

She eyed the cart at the mention of an explosion. That wouldn't be ideal, in the least. In fact, it was something that Kyra would much prefer to avoid - if at all possible.

"Explosions would be...very bad. Let's not. Explode, you know. Although it would certainly leave an impression on these people. All of them. All over the place. Like, everywhere."

She sighed, stepping forward towards the cart before her nerve gave way. The thing was a work of art, in a way. Still, she didn't like the thought of something randomly exploding on her, and that was causing her to hesitate.

"You're sure it's safe, right? I mean like you said, air won't explode...normally...so we should be safe?"

She glanced again at the entire contraption, her hand holding onto the edge of it as she waited for confirmation that she should get on.

It looked like Kyra may have taken MAI's joke a bit too seriously. Which made since, given that the Magia was horrible at telling jokes. Her deliver either made everyone think she was not joking, or the joke itself was so lame that no one would laugh. With an internal sigh, the smaller girl would sit down on the cart and slap the motor with one hand. It produced a small clank and then... nothing. Absolutely nothing.

"I'm sure. Absolutely safe. It's like wind turbines, they also cannot explode. Someone else would have to use their own mastery to consciously turn it into a bomb."

And if that were the case, then there was nothing they could do about it, and it wouldn't be just a motor that could be subjected to such an ability. Either way, MAI got off and started waddling over to the front gate.

"The only issue is that there is no steering. But fields have to be sown in neat straight lines so it shouldn't be a problem."

She sighed as the Magia girl confirmed that it wouldn't explode. Kyra hadn't realised just how much she had tensed up until she heard those words, her entire body releasing from what was likely a very, very tense looking posture. Oh, so it's like a wind...wait those things explode in movies all the...well, I guess that is someone else doing it...

"Wait...if they can't steer it, how do they get it turned around in order to do the next line on the field? Does it not have some sort of steering capabilities?"

She looked over the entire cart, trying to find anything that would signify the ability to change direction - until she realised that she may as well have been looking at a rocket's engine. She didn't even know what would allow it to turn, other than a steering wheel and...well, wheels that turned.

"Err...is there a way to like...make it turn? It seems like something that might be useful, so that they don't have to like...drag it around to face the other direction, or something..."

She glanced over at the Magia girl, her tail swaying softly behind her. She was impressed by the work the other had already done on the piece, and felt bad questioning the capabilities - but she also knew that in order to fully sell it...well, they would have to wrinkle out at least the biggest flaws. And not being able to turn felt like a fairly large flaw for something that was supposed to be self-propelled.

It seemed that Kyra really did not know much about farming. Well, that was alright. MAI could teach her the basics once they were properly testing all the equipment and harvesting the crops for the elderly folk. For now, she eyed the fox girl a bit, something hatching in her mind...

"Turns the same way as it did before I put an engine on it. Normally, horses would drag it behind them and those 'tools' at the back till the land. Since they don't have horses, the engine will move it instead. To turn, they stop it briefly and simply re-direct the cart. Just... try it."

She mentioned it in brief before, but it was understandable that it got lost in everything that was happening. Her Astramancy had control over gravity as well as general cosmos-stuff. Once Kyra would grab the cart and try to turn it, she would discover that it was as easy as manipulating something made out of paper - minus the annoyance of it folding over because of its size. But once that was tried, MAI would approach the fox.

"Hey... I know we're far from done, but could I... get an extra reward from you for helping you out with all of this?"
