Though often mistaken for a form of mimic, the grass crab, locally known as "Wandering Wheat", is actually a form of terrestrial crustacean typically found in grasslands. They carefully cultivate a crop of native grasses on their shell, allowing them to blend in with their environment.
In recent years, they've grown increasingly common in grain fields, which are similar enough to their native habitats to let them thrive. And while they aren't particularly dangerous, their tendency to dig has led to an increase in injuries as people unexpectedly step into one of their burrows...
Endless fields of golden grain. The peaceful chirping of birds. A gentle sun, a growing rarity in the autumn season.
"Uuuugh. I can't believe this is the quest they gave me."
And of course, the whining of one Imoogi as she looked out upon the field, a black spot amidst the green and yellow.
The Adventurer's Guild had told her this was a hunting quest. Not particularly dangerous, but it still involved culling more than a few creatures, and Imoogi was always looking for a way to test out her skills. She'd imagined it'd be something bigger, or threatening. Like wolves, or giant birds, or even goblins.
Instead, according to the locals, the "Wandering Wheat" was just crab that dug holes, ate bugs, and mostly ran away when people got too close. Not particularly dangerous at all.
How disappointing! It was like the people at the guild thought she was some helpless noob.
"And I can't even use my grenades... ugh. At least it pays okay..."
