Cycle 4
Location: Labyrinth's Simulacrum - Higher Levels
Time & Weather: ???

The Troglodytes continued to fall, and the number advantage seemed to fade more and more...

The remaining scouts seemed hesitant to continue this battle, but a death glare coming from the Alpha made them hesitate from leave the battlefield even more.

It was two dead ends for the troglodytes, but as powerful as their enemies were, if they decided to run away they would need to worry about their enemies and the Alpha that certainly wouldn't forgive them.

Having no other option, the two scouts continued their attacks, scooting closer to the Alpha, hoping that he would be enough to protect them before trying to aim at @Ueno Mizuki and @Imoogi, with stones and javelins being thrown at their direction.

"Grrrhh..."

Seeing his attempt to taunt @Lune haven't worked, the Alpha lifted another large rock with a hand, throwing it at the songstress before turning all of its attention to @Fiora Di Angelo, gripping his club tightly and throwing two attacks: One going downwards, straight to the top of the elf's head to crack her skull, and the other was a swing to her side, trying to knock her as far as possible.

The longer the battle went, the more Lune spent time concentrating on keeping her allies alive through constant bodily regeneration. One moment she had to stop for a while to replenish her power, and the big Troglodyte suddenly threw a sizable rock in her direction.

Without any time to dodge, she tanked the projectile, sending her backward but she quickly recovered. "Ugh," Looking around, she called out to the shielder in the frontline. "Any bright ideas? The fight isn't going to our advantage."

"I don't think we're strong enough to go toe to toe with the big one."

The blonde wiped the dirt off her face, before looking for something around her. Specifically, on the terrain. Weak structure, pillars, or even the slightest crack on the ground.

"Let's see..."

In the meantime, Lune moved away from the heat of the fight, in case a rock flew towards her again. Allocating more of her power, she distributed more lifeforce to her allies.

"Hang on a little while."

INTERMISSION - Cycle 4.1

As @Lune tried to find a hint for any advantage they could take, she noticed the structure of the pillars was compromised. Still, it needed a little push for it to actually fall.

However... How much of a good idea it was..?

The Pillars

North Pillar

Passives:
Immobile
- It can't be moved from its place by any means. On top of that, its Zone is considered Impassable Terrain (Roll appropriate DC 60 Physical Expertise to overcome).
Rubble Source - At the very first time its HP is decreased, it creates Rubble Zones adjacent to it.

Death Action:
Demolish
- When it reaches 0 HP, it falls 4 Zones in a straight line (Vertical, Horizontal or Diagonal) to the direction of the attacker's choice. 800 Environmental Damage + any damage leftover in the attack to everyone and everything in its path, and turn these four Zones into Rubble Zones.

E3 [120/200]

South Pillar

Passives:

E8 [100/200]

If both Pillars are destroyed, the stability of the battlefield will be disrupted, and in two Cycles, everyone still left in the Battlefield will die.

Had their enemies only consisted of the smaller troglodytes the ranger would've felt confident in their victory, but the giant reptile that commanded the lounge—and the massive boulders it kept hurling towards them—introduced a variable she wasn't comfortable with. Lune pointed towards the two pillars in the room, their condition weathered by time and whatever battles had ensued within these ruins before, and soon a quick plan was hatched out.

She'd moved to a better position before taking aim with her bow towards the northern column. It currently held itself together slightly better than it's southern twin, but the distance between it and the others had been the deciding factor for the elf.

A frost-covered arrow embedded itself into the cracks, ice shards exploding moments after before a sheet of ice covered the rough stone surface. It trembled in response, the cracks along its surface expanding as small bits of rock and dust shook loose, before stubbornly remaining in the same position the pillar had held for who knew how many years now.

The fight was slowly shifting in their favour, as only two of the smallest troglodytes were left alongside their humongous leader. Granted, taking down the leader would probably take as much effort as all the others combined, but Mizuki was confident that once the boss was alone and isolated they could subdue him.

Hrah! Filthy lizards!

Her thoughts were interrupted by a javelin embedding itself into her back, the crude weapon digging into her tough hide and flesh before she grabbed it with her tail and yanked it out. Before she could do more than snarl about it Lune's rejuvenating song already took care of the wound, flesh knitting itself back together under the enchanted notes.

Mizuki was about to retaliate when she noticed that @Luthien was... doing something strange. Rather than either healing the wounded or attacking their enemies the elf was aiming one of her frost arrows at the northern pillar, a part of the combat terrain which Mizuki had ignored up until now. Confusion turned to realisation when she saw how the enchanted arrow managed to make the pillar crack.

Like that then?

Whether it was a good idea to destroy the pillars was a different question entirely, but Mizuki had fought enough big enemies that she knew this one would probably also enter an enraged state before the end. In which case... using the pillars to speed up his imminent defeat was worth a little bit of risk.

Digging her paws into the rough ground Mizuki dashed forward, nimbly evading the boss's wide swings and rough movements as she headed straight for the northern pillar. Passing the troglodyte who'd struck her with a javelin she barrelled straight into him, knocking him to the ground while warning him with her Primal Aura that if he knew what was best for him he'd scram.

Once she got close enough she came to a halt, clawed toes stabbing stone and soil to cement herself as she pushed herself upright and lifted one front paw. Swinging it forward the furred limb quickly expanded, flesh turning into wood and fur turning into bark as a large hand like that of a treant latched onto the unstable pillar. Gritting her fangs Mizuki turned back towards the boss, muscles pulling taut and veins standing out along the length of her arm as she heaved with all her might.

The pillar, already eroded by time and now suffering the after-effects of Luthien's frost arrow, groaned as cracks widened, dust and shards falling down before the entire structure began to shift. Slowly but surely the entire pillar toppled, the fall accelerating once it had leaned far enough for gravity to assist the wildling in her reckless approach.

Fall DOWN!

Imoogi sounded perhaps a little too excited for that. Considering how many times she'd been shot so far, then healed, then shot again... the idea of collapsing the entire damn cave on them had a certain appeal.

And... well, she had something special for that.

She eyed the southern pillar as she dug through her inventory, first pulling out her slingshot, and then a taped-together contraption that looked suspiciously like a medieval take on a pipe bomb.

Imoogi loaded the slingshot, pulled it back, took careful aim...

Thwip.

The bomb landed next to the pillar, softly smoking...

BOOM.

And down went the second pillar.

One giant bonk came in her direction, something she was prepared to face given there was no room to get out of harm's way, instead using her own arms to shield her head. The attempt was futile as she found out the moment that boulder-sized club slammed her into a little crater of her own on the ground, the impact enough to crack more than one bone in her body.

The golf-swing she took facefirst, air knocked out of her lungs the second she tried to grasp for some after what amounted to beating her into a pulp. Now instead she was sent flying like a fly given a swat, crashing against cold, hard stone onto a pool of her own blood, armour practically dented inwards. Pitchblack vision finally turned into a messy blur as Fiora opened her eye, assaulted by the horrendous stench of the giant troglodyte, with foreign hard bits swirling in her mouth. A quick spat left her to stare at a couple of her teeth knocked clean out of her mouth aswell as her own blood.

Her body cried as much as her throat did when the elf tried to lift herself from her bloody stone throne, knees gone weak from the effort alone, stumbling her way back to the group. Unsteadiness took over her as she watched the set of pillars drop atop the giant, the very earth angered with the ruckus, almost enough to have her drop again were her blade not at hand and ready to catch her like an old woman with a cane.

Resolute, her second wind kicked in as she begun to gain momentum simply by striding back into the chaos, a jog turned into a sprint, with her blade aimed for this Goliath's ankle into one poised thrust.

"GWAAAARHCK!"

The two giant pillars toppled on top of the giant Troglodyte and one of its lackeys. A shriek and a scream could be heard moments before they fell, and it was quickly silenced when the structures met the heads of the group's ambushers.

The cave began shaking, with pieces of rubbles falling from above. It was clear that this whole open area has been artificially made, so it was only a matter of time before it all fell down now that the pillars no longer supported that wide space, so they needed to hurry and run away if they wanted to stay alive!

But...

As soon as the coward Troglodyte scout remaining took a step back to try and run away, thinking all the shaking would give it the distraction it needed to escape, the arm of the Troglodyte Alpha erupted from the rubbles of the pillars, snatching the Scout by the tail.

It shrieked, and soon it lost its footing, being spun in the air before it was hurled at @Luthien's direction, hitting the elf and making both her and the Scout roll on the floor.

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGHHH!"

Its eyes were burning in fury, and while standing, it lifted a large chunk of the broken pillar with an arm, throwing it at @Lune, lashing out all of its wrath in the throw, with the large pillar piece reaching for her.

Turning its attention to @Fiora Di Angelo, the Troglodyte rose its clenched fist, swinging it down to slam the elf's head in a direct strike, trying to crush her between its fist and the cave's floor before it rotated its body.

Its tail swung at @Ueno Mizuki's direction, aiming to slam against her center of mass and throw her as far away as possible, with clear intentions of throwing her to her death at the edge of the cave.

With its gaze now focused in @Imoogi, a rumbling could be heard in its stomach, and after suppressing behind its throat for a moment, it opened its mouth and released an echoing burp, with an unholy smell finding its way to the snake girl.

"Krrii..... KRRIIEEEEK!"

Recovering, the Scout stood after the impact with the blonde elf, shrieking at her direction and pulling out a dagger from its sheath, desperately trying to reach her before she recovered while aiming to slash her throat.

Meanwhile... @Madison Freebird seemed to start lagging behind, with her appearance distorting for a moment. Perhaps the simulation was bugging.

With her experience, simula-vella was able to notice that the pillars were both already gotten brittle and fragile with time. "The pillars!" She shouted. "Strike at the base, we can bring those down to the big one!"

As the group concentrated their attacks on the pillars, she noticed the Alpha preparing a breath attack before jumping in front of Imoogi. The breath quickly melted the shield away, forcing her to move out of the way to not get consumed. "There goes my shield. You alright?" She stood again. "I'm gonna go back, they need me in the frontline."

Lune, still preparing her magic, meditated behind the lines as circles of runes appeared around her. The Alpha tried the rock-throwing attack on her again, but this time she was able to move to the left without even breaking her concentration. "Predictable." She smiled, as she tapped both of her hands together, joining all the circles into a concentrated orb before sending it towards the heroine.

"Freya, I'm redirecting all my power to you. Go wild."

The blonde's right hand reached upwards, catching the energy bolt before she exploded in a pillar of light. From it, a winged ivory-golden suit of armor rose, but instead of standing at thirty feet tall like its real-world counterpart in Astorea, it was very much human-sized.

Bathed in energy, its presence emanated an aura that brought immense strength and hope. Turning to Mizuki and Luthien, she pointed toward the Troglodyte Alpha.

"Let us finish it."
The voice echoed.

Their plan was successful, the pillars collapsing on top of the biggest of troglodytes and momentarily burying him underneath the rubble along with one of his smaller minions. The impact of both the giant rock formations smashing into the ground at roughly the same time caused the entire battlefield to shake, leaving Mizuki distracted for a moment as she tried to keep her footing.

This, combined with the fact that there was the small hope this approach had successfully silenced the boss for good, left her wide open for when the scaled menace burst out of the rubble and lashed at the entire party all by himself, his tail slamming into the wildling with enough force to send her flying all the way to the edge of the battlefield... and past it.

Surprised by the attack Mizuki was neither steady enough on her feet to resist it nor quick enough to catch herself before the ground disappeared and an endless chasm opened up underneath her. The caenis felt a chill travel through her before she remembered a different occasion where something very similar had occurred, and how she'd defied death that time.

Curling up into a ball Mizuki's body shifted, fur turning into feathers that quickly expanded to cover her entire form even as her arms spread out into large wings. From one moment to the next the caenis had transformed into a bird, beating her wings to push herself high into the air before folding them again to dive back towards the one who'd tried to dispose of her like they'd disposed of his minions, the large troglodyte who was trying to escape his inevitable demise.

With power flowing into her from Corvella's Avatar form Mizuki changed shape yet again, feathers returning to fur and wings returning to paws. Covering the last couple of meters on all fours she kept the momentum of her flight to strike at Bobzzon Bawskrusher before he had time to react. Diving practically underneath his large tail she lashed out with her clawed front paws, tearing open his scaled hide to rend the muscles in his legs to immobilise and severely wound him.

At the same time, she broadcasted her killing intent with her Primal Aura, alerting her allies that they should abandon all caution for the moment and focus on taking down the boss before it was too late to escape the collapsing battlefield afterwards.

Finish him!

"Tch!" Her tongue clicked in frustration as the pillar remained in place, though its defiance would swiftly come to an end once it’d gathered the attention of the caenis. The second pillar never stood a chance against Imoogi’s explosives, both columns now subjected to the laws of gravity as they crumbled atop the massive troglodyte and its minions.

Only one of the lizards had been spared, lucky enough to be just out of the path of destruction. It seemed smarter than the rest, or at least the creature had enough intellect to be aware of how shitty its current situation was, but before it could flee an arm shot out of the rubble. It grasped the scout’s tail tightly and, despite any protest the smaller lizard might’ve had, it soon found itself airborne and flying in Lúthien’s direction.

"Shit—!" She barely had time to brace herself before the scout hit her like a truck, the pair rolling on the ground in a confusing mess of tangled limbs before finally separating. Her world was still spinning as the elf struggled to catch her bearings, before the shriek of the scout and the familiar glint of metal quickly sobered up her senses as the creature leapt towards her.

Her hand instinctively grasped for one of her throwing daggers, small sparks erupting as their blades clashed, as she parried the swing away from her throat—though its blade still found its mark as it pierced through her leather vest and into her shoulder. "F-Fuck off…!!!" Adrenaline and pain were two powerful motivators under the right circumstances, and the blonde finally managed to flip the tables on her attacker as she shoved the troglodyte away from her.

"Imoogi!!!" She’d scrambled to get control of the situation, calling out towards the snake girl as her knee pressed tightly against the spine of the troglodyte to momentarily pin it against the ground, before a blinding pillar of light caught her attention. The armor was one the elf was personally familiar with eliciting a faint smirk from the blonde despite the ragged state she was currently in. "Let us finish it."

Mizuki was the first that responded to the heroine’s call for action as the caenis transformed into a flurry of feathers, avoiding the same fate that had met the troglodytes before her as she sped towards the alpha. She bought enough time for Imoogi and Lúthien to handle the remaining scout, the blonde pulling away from the troglodyte at the last second as she dove in the direction of her bow.

A pair of arrows were quickly pressed against its string, the painful throbbing in her shoulder momentarily forgotten as Lúthien pulled them back and took aim. Bobzzon stumbled as Mizuki’s claws rendered through scales and flesh, hindering the massive troglodyte’s movement and forcing him to take a knee—forcing his attention to momentarily focus on the caenis that had wounded him and creating an opening Lúthien was quick to exploit.

Her arrows quickly whizzed through the air as they closed the distance between them, undoubtedly surprising Bobzzon when they pierced through the monster’s right eye. The ranger didn’t wait to confirm her hit before drawing a second pair of arrows from her quiver, already nocked back and ready to go when the troglodyte turned to bellow in her direction.

Their steel heads easily embedded against the exposed flesh on the roof of his mouth, finding little resistance as they pierced through and into whatever grey matter encased within his skull.

Unfolding the Unknown
Cycle 6
Location: Labyrinth's Simulacrum - Higher Levels
Time & Weather: ???

The Alpha fell upon the combined efforts of the heroes, that didn't falter despite the wrathful strikes of the giant Troglodyte.

When the Alpha collapsed on the ground, the shaking in the cave only got worse... As if the lack of pillars weren't enough, the sheer weight of the impact was enough to sever the structure's integrity even more, and they really had to rush their way out of there.

Even the small trogloyte that had been throw struggled to get out of there, no longer caring for its previous target. Its boss was dead, and everything in that place would be dead really soon. It only thought of running away!

Chunks of the Cave's ceiling started falling in a rubble shower, and the group had to hurry away.

Thankfully, they had time enough to do it without further complications, but they would sure need to rest after this combat.
