Adjusted HP to include campfire bonuses and heals.

On paper the route had seemed simple enough—rather steep, though that was expected of most paths as they climbed their way up the Ascent, but it should’ve been more than doable for their little party. Reality however was something else entirely, especially when Mother Nature decided to throw a curveball towards them in the shape of a relentless downpour.

The rain brought with itself a series of unfortunate events that were unleashed one right after the other, too fast for the ranger to keep up with. Someone or something had bumped against her, causing her footing to slip against the now slippery stones as the blonde was granted front row seat of the worst slip-n-slide she’d ever been on. A squeal that was equal parts surprise and fear had escaped upon realizing her ride was gonna toss her over a ledge, before a strong and firm grip latched onto her wrist as the rest of the ground disappeared from underneath the elf.

"Fio?!" Delight and worry wrestled in her voice as she caught sight of the greenette that had kept Lúthien from plummeting down to who knew where, her own free hand and feet scrabbling to find purchase against the slick stones and mud that now coated the side of the ledge. It was then she caught sight of that singular golden eye as Fiora weighed her options, and before the ranger could even quip up a strong yank against her arm had the lighter of the elves soaring through the air before her rump landed back on the edge.

She ignored the discomfort that currently plagued her shoulder and the small nicks along her arms, hands reaching out instead to help the knightess climb back onto the ledge. Only when they were both safe and sound did the ranger allow herself a sigh of relief, crimson eyes staring back at Fiora before whispering softly. "T-Thanks…"

Perhaps it came as no surprise that the group decided to try their luck through the unexpected cavern system that Diego has managed to discover, seemingly having enough of the rain and the sharp stones that lined the rest of the ascent in their original path. The tunnels certainly provided cover from the rain and potential colds, though the air within was damp and humid while the darkness threatened to swallow them whole.

"Whoa… I wonder how deep into the mountain this system goes."

She couldn’t help feeling mesmerized as Lúthien was reminded why she not only chose to play this game, but also why she remained as a member of the League despite the dangers and poor track record their faction held. It wasn’t long before one of the hidden dangers within their underground path had been revealed, the acidic ooze that Diego had discovered serving as a reminder that this place was far more dangerous than Las Cuevas de Camuy she’d visited on the island during a middle school field trip back in their reality.

"Let’s stay close," Her eyes glimmered for a second as the elf turned to look at the others one by one, undeterred by the inky blackness that stretched past whatever light source the others decided to use as they ventured forth. { I’ll keep us connected. }

It would offer them a way to speak without having their voices echo throughout the cavern, while also giving the elf a general idea as to where each of them was… and hopefully enough warning should enemies come within the thirty feet range of her mental comms. That alone wouldn’t get them out of here though, and the ranger was left to ponder in silence for a moment as she thought of a way that might help turn their luck around.

"Keep your ears open for any faint whistling or whooshing noise," Though the advice was for everyone she focused her gaze on Fiora, the three caenis, and two wolves in the party the most. "With that storm raging outside all the exits of this place will probably be ‘singing’ thanks to the wind—"

The unexpected startled outcries as the knightess discovered the ooze on the walls and their new geologist on the field stumbled into a few small puddles of it startled Lúthien, a surprised cry escaping her as she stepped back and almost lost her footing when the thick heel of her boot landed right on top of a small pebble. Each and every sound sharply echoed deeper into the cave, and before long she could feel a mass of various erratic creatures as they entered the radius of her mental comms while heading straight for the group.

{ We have company! }

It was the only warning that Lúthien was able to broadcast towards the others before the swarm of bats emerged from deeper in the tunnels, the creatures screeching loudly as their wings propelled them forwards and they buffeted against anything or anyone in their path. She ducked down to miss the main ‘body’ of the group, before nimble steps took the ranger around another set of ooze puddles as she finally got out of the way.

Despite her misgivings Mizuki followed the others into the dark of the mountain's depths, her packmates sharing her hesitance but obeying her command to leave behind the open skies. The fresh scent of rain was replaced by the moldy dampness of a cave system which may be blessed with water but experienced little to no winds, making her nose curl before she took a deep breath and relaxed.

As she could see in the dark even without a torch she left it up to those who required the illumination to carry their tools. Instead, she took charge of a role she was ill-suited for but which nobody else appeared to be either interested or adept at: drawing a map of this cave system, to ensure that they remained aware of their position and didn't accidentally move away from their goal rather than towards it.

With the others leading the way the wildling would do her best to keep up with the rest of the group even as most of her attention was on the piece of parchment in one hand and the piece of charcoal she'd retrieved from the remnants of the campfire last night, which was now serving as her drawing instrument. She had little experience with making maps, and she wasn't exactly a skilled artist either: trying to simultaneously keep up with the group and have her work be useful was taking most of her concentration.

Thankfully her packmates helped her out. Using their sharp noises and ears they kept an eye on their surroundings, informing Mizuki about everything they noticed both to help her draw a concrete map and so she wouldn't be caught by surprise. Mizuki's own attempts at using her ears to help grasp the shape of the tunnels they were moving through were hindered by echoes and the chittering of bats.

You've never been in a cave before?

She asked this of Luna, surprised by the girl's words. Then again, she was still young, so maybe it wasn't that strange.

As Fiora commented that she was regretting their decision to enter the cave system the caenis nodded, although her eyes remained on the map.

When you're travelling through dangerous terrain patience and caution are more important than speed. If I were here alone with my pack I'd have waited for the rain to end.

@Luthien's words and thoughts were answered with a nod and a small flare from Mizuki's Primal Aura. She'd already been trying to keep her voice down, but having the archer serve as a telepathic network for the group would be useful in more ways than one.

Thanks to her lagging behind the group she ended up unaffected by the encounter with the acidic ooze the people at the front suffered, looking up from her map with a concerned and slightly frustrated frown.

More caution would be a good idea yes. Don't touch anything unless you're absolutely certain about what it is.

Her mismatched eyes moved from Diego to Fiora and Lune.

Fiora can't see to her left, so I'd suggest one of you walks next to her to watch her flank-

Luthien's stumble, and the consequential torrent of bats that suddenly reacted to the presence of these intruders, forced the wildling to put a pin on that topic. As the little, disease-ridden rodents swarmed them Mizuki ducked low to avoid their sharp claws and fangs, letting out a sharp growl while her wolves snapped at the bats. The torrent passed almost as quickly as it came, giving the pack leader the opportunity to take a deep breath and shake her head in a vain attempt to get rid of the ringing in her ears, courtesy of the flying vermin.

...Maybe we should take a short break and regain our bearings.

Yugam was not at all displeased with the decision to delve into the caverns that he'd conveniently already fallen into. It was out of the rain, and nature's unforgiving barrage. But deep and dark, and perilously cold, not at all alleviated by the weather. Normally, it would have been a nice reprieve, but with no fire to warm their bones, it was just trading ice for snow.

The groups quiet banter echoed down the length of the tunnels, as they began to explore. Tubby, sensing his native habitat (or at least something close to it) pocked his little head out from the pocket of Yugam's coat and crawled onto the man's shoulder, happy to enjoy the familiar humidity. At least until the swarm of bats flew right at them.

Like the protective wurm-dad he was, Yugam went, perhaps, a little overboard, and conjured an entire wall of his crystallized blood which forced the bats to swarm around him and his tasty bat-food/wurm-son.

Unfolding the Unknown
As @Fiora Di Angelo gave Diego a tip of the rocks, he beamed:

"Woah! For me? Thanks!"

Diego grinned, feeling like the luckiest explorer of the world when taking the rock, tucking it into one of his pockets, then looking at @Lune.

"They are just so cool. It is like the caves have fangs or something. Wouldn't it be cool if caves were like, fossils of gargantuan monsters we are venturing into?"

His eyes sparkled at the group, then peeking at Luna, in a 'right?!' expression. The Sun Claw could only slip a nervous giggle.

"A-As long as the cave don't wake up..."

Her eyes then turned to @Ueno Mizuki, shaking her head.

"Never... I always take the path straight to the mountains... If it is a rainy day, I just go back to the village."

Their path continued, with footsteps echoing, through the endless tunnels of the cave. The burns caused by the acid brought concern to the Sun Claw-

"A-Are you alright?"

But it didn't take long until @Luthien's warns caught the attention of the two kids, that quickly tried to cover themselves, with Luna being covered by Fiora rapidly enough to not be tackled by the ferocious bites of the bats.

"Thank you..."

She smiled, appreciating the help.

Yet, the cave did not budge any rest for the expeditioners, with a eerie mist soon covering them. The first ones to catch something wrong with it were Diego and @Yugam, and together, they warned the group, noticing their counsciousness faltering as soon as the mist entered their lungs.

"Hold your breath-! This is bad news!"

He said, feeling his legs lose strength, but he quickly held onto Lune, rather shaky, but managing to brute force his march through sheer willpower, showing a slightly determined grin to the redhaired.

"Their travel continued through the cave, with each eerie corner tingling fear and anticipation in their minds. The mist made seeing through the darkness an even more arduous task than one could expect... But they continued to march, step by step, trying to reach the surface once again." She hummed.

"And this all to not catch a rain. I thought adventurers knew the fun of taking a rain shower!"

"Isn't that how you caught a cold, last time?" She rose an eyebrow.

"Th-This is this, that is that!"

Storyteller huffed a chuckle. "Yes, right... Ahem. The efforts eventually bore fruits. The mist slowly faded away, and a hint of dim light shone by the end of the tunel. Could it be the exit? The sound of rain could be heard, muffled, but existent, enough to give them the certainty that they were almost out of that darkness..."

HYLANDS ASCENT
Mid Afternoon
Weather: Heavy Rain

At the cave's exit, the group could see a downpour bathing the lands and mountains, yet, Luna exclaimed, after tucking away Diego's bandana from her nostrils and mouth-

"Th-This path is surely quick, I can already see the Keeper's home!"

She gestured to a particular spot, where the mountains curled in an unique shape, one that looked like a third of a dome, with sharp, shimmering edges poking out of it as if they were large crystals.

"Are those moonstones?! They are too big!" Diego's eyes widened.

Luna nodded.

"Every night, they grow larger and larger, but it is mostly a protective layer... It is part of the Keeper's work, to protect the true moonstones. "

Diego whistled.

"So it is a counterfeit on top of the real deal? This Keeper is a sneaky guy. I already like him." Diego turned to the group. "Well! We got to our destiny much quicker than I thought! I expected like, four days of travel."

He puffed his chest out, confident and with his whistle almost seeming to brim along with his cheer.

"Let's get ready?"

Diego tugged his magitech umbrella out, making it open out of the blue, startling Luna for a moment before she peeked at it, curious once again.

"I'm not sure if this rain will stop any time soon, so let's go!"

"U-Uhm... I'm not sure if this is a good idea." Luna tugged the borrowed vest to cover her more. "It is a little cold too."

"Hmmm..."

Diego crossed his arms as his twin-tails swayed, looking rather conflicted if they should wait any longer.

Lune had a loss for words when Diego said that it would be fun if the cave was a fossil of a big monster or something. It wouldn't be fun if they have to assume such a massive creature walked on this land.

"I... guess?"

They continue to walk, only stopping as soon as Luthien warned them of an attack.

Hardening her skin and activating her precognition to see where the rodents were coming from, it proved to be in vain as there were too many of them, quickly surrounding the group. These are not ordinary bats, with how quickly they tore through Lune's hardened flesh. With one high-pitched magic-filled shriek that Lune released, the bats quickly dispersed and escaped, disoriented by the sharp noise.

"Alright, they are gone."

That was not the last of what the cave had to offer to them, however. Quickly morphing her physiology when she detected the weird mist, the woman noticed that Diego had inhaled some of it. Judging by his reaction, it was anesthetic. "Come on, I'm with you. Stay awake."

She quickly pulled him towards herself, supporting the kid's weight while helping him to walk while trying to escape from the mist. After one or two minutes of holding their breath in, the party discovered the exit that conveniently leads to the Keeper's place. Nice.

The moonstones grow? It looked like they have some magic properties, after all. And if it's only the counterfeit moonstone, imagine what the real deal could do.

Her brows furrowed upon Luna's mention of the temperature. Among the explorers, there's not a single one that could conjure a fire out of nothing. You know, the one thing crucial to survival? With every passing day, her doubt in the competency of the explorers increases. She would have given her her jacket if it wasn't destroyed by the acidic splash, but alas.

"We arrived pretty early, it wouldn't hurt to just wait an hour or two."

Lune suggested, leaning onto the cave's mouth, trying to regain the energy lost during the cave shenanigans.

With the rain and their destination in sight, Fiora laid the tension on her shoulders, sitting down at a fair distance from the cavern's exit with her torch put aside. The pain forced itself to be acknowledged once it stung across her body and the elf's momentum was brought to a halt. She clenched her fist, golden eye set upon the wounds across her arm, the most concerning given it's her dominant hand, and the blood still flows ever since before their trip through the cavern.

As she took her jacket off, Fiora fidgeted through her UI, shaky hand urged her to grab the healing spray usually installed on Ronja's Aid-lings, now made portable for her to use in emergencies. The green mist that followed lasted little as her body absorbed it, patching up each wound in a far less painful process in comparison to their healer-on-duty's methods.

One priority followed the other as the greenette picked up her jacket once again and stood up. It was a bit too large for Luna, and the caenis would notice that right away once she wrapped it over her shoulders, aswell as how unnaturally warm it is.

"Should keep you from catching a cold." She explained, her silent agreement to Lune was wordless but not without notice, as she placed her torch several meters back into the cavern. For as long as it shines, it should give them a heads-up should any beast try to catch up to them in the first place. Specially for those who can't see in the dark.

Magic begun to wrap around her form, invisible to the naked eye as it sparked up her aura like reinvigorated embers. Much in the same way she used it to protect herself and others from harm, this time it would be from the chilling breeze that came from the outside.

Wait Patiently

Despite the various obstacles the cave seemed to place in their path the party was able to find an exit, the chilling breeze and sound of rapidly falling rain meeting them as they neared the cave opening.

"Th-This path is surely quick, I can already see the Keeper's home!"
"Whoa... it’s beautiful."
"Are those moonstones?! They are too big!"

Her gaze shifted towards @Yugam, wondering if the man had seen anything similar when it was his turn to find the coveted stone required for his own violet whistle, before turning back to Luna as the caenis shared her knowledge with them. "So the Keeper generates those? Damn, that’s pretty impressive." It didn’t take long for Diego’s eagerness to surface with their goal within sight, the twin-tailed caenis seemingly ready to keep marching onwards without pause.

"We arrived pretty early, it wouldn't hurt to just wait an hour or two."

"Lune’s right, We got here a lot quicker than we thought anyways." She added her own support to @Lune ’s suggestion, having noticed the way Luna hugged her vest closer to her small frame. While the cave and its tunnels had offered shelter from the pouring rain the cool and humid environment within did little to help dry their clothes. She watched as @Fiora draped her large jacket over the young Sun Claw, and while most of the greenette’s wounds had been mended some were still left… and she wasn’t the only one.

Her gaze shifted towards @Luna, remembering the girl’s interest in music, just as the bow materialized from storage and into the ranger’s hands. "How about some singing lessons then?" Practiced movements shifted her weapon into its instrumental function, before a simple melody echoed throughout the cavern’s opening as the elf tested the violin.

A small breeze carefully weaved itself through the small party as the tune continued, before the soft whispers focused around the knightess, the hunter, and finally the wildling and her packmates. A comforting warmth soon spread through their bodies as the magic boosted their regenerative abilities, encouraging leftover wounds to finish closing and healing as the melody reverberated through their space.

There it was, the moonstones. The end was within reach now. Well, the end of the first half of their journey at least, they still needed to make it back, but the return trip always seemed shorter than when you left.

Yugam had been about to step foot into the rain to finish the group's objective when Lune spoke up, expressing her desire to stay dry for the time being. A little rain never hurt anyone, but it wasn't as if Yugam had anywhere else to be either. At the end of the day, it was really Diego and Luthien's choice though.

The man's eyes drifted over first to the younger, very excitable caenis, then to elf, who was looking at him with a question in her eyes. "No, I wasn't so lucky," the man chuckled, sensing the question, "I got stuck fighting off a golem who was pretty much made out of the stuff." Because why would things ever be easy for him?

Despite the misfortunes they had to endure on their way through the subterranean passage it seemed like their combined wits and talents allowed them to navigate their way safely, and before long Mizuki could see a faint light in the distance, indicating that either they'd come across some kind of luminescent object or daylight was trying to squeeze into the dark world inside of the mountain through an opening. Her ears twitched as she heard the sound of rain, confirming that it was indeed the latter.

Once they were close enough she inhaled deeply, relishing the scent of rain and sky. It might be chilly, but it was still a vast improvement over what they'd had to put up with after deciding that spelunking was preferable over scaling cliff and slope with clouds assaulting them from high above with aquatic bombardment.

Much better...

She mumbled this partially to herself, but she could tell from the wagging of their tails that her packmates agreed with her. The two wolves would probably have been the first to run out into the rain if the wildling hadn't told them to stick with the rest. Grateful as she was to see the sky once more Mizuki didn't step out from their hiding hole just yet, instead gazing out upon the strange, almost supernatural structure which acted as the resting place of the true moonstones, and the much-mentioned Keeper that guarded them.

Hrmmm... That's certainly different.

Her mismatched eyes displayed her curiosity, kneeling close to the exit of the dungeon as she kept her eye on the domelike formation of stone and crystal.

They can't grow very quickly, if they're still contained within that place.

After making her observation Mizuki listened as Diego suggested that they immediately head out to finish their journey. With a light frown she joined Luna's objection, one of her wolves moving closer to the young caenis to perhaps offer her some additional warmth by sharing his thick fur coat with her.

There's no need to hurry, so we might as well wait for the rain to stop.

It wasn't like they were part of a race or anything. The only faction out there which might wish them harm were the Moon Fangs, and those had little reason to know about their presence or their purpose. All in all, they might as well take it easy rather than wilfully increasing the chances of injury just to finish their expedition a couple of hours earlier.

@Yugam's mention of a golem made out of moonstone did catch her attention, the wildling raising an eyebrow as she turned her gaze towards him.

I don't think either Moon Fangs or Sun Claws would make a golem out of the stuff. Any idea why there was a moonstone golem wandering about?

Moonstone wasn't unique to the Hylands, but you didn't hear about people using it for such projects often either.

Unfolding the Unknown
The dilemma between going through the rain and staying a bit longer didn't last long, with the group soon deciding to this time be a bit more patient, instead of venturing through the dangers of a slippery and rainy path.

"Well! Big sis said, so it shouldn't hurt to wait then."

The boy shrugged with a grin at @Lune's choice, plopping down to sit on a rock, while peeking at @Fiora Di Angelo, that had approached Luna to offer her jacket. The small girl perked up, accepting it with a timid smile and nod.

"Y-You didn't need to, Fiora... But thank you..."

She said, wearing the jacket on top of her own clothes and Diego's vest, making the boy let out a brief laughter.

"Hey! That looks enormous on you, Luna!"

"Yeah. But it is really warm."

She giggled faintly, clutching on the jacket to cover her further, while peeking at @Luthien and giving it a thought.

"The Keeper is amazing. He has protected these Moonstones for so long, after all... And he is very kind too, even when protecting it."

Her smile grew a bit more, but then the offer for a singing perked her up once again.

"Ah! Singing, you will really teach it for me now? I would love it."

With brimming eyes, Luna's tail swayed through a slip under the jacket, showing her excitement while Diego seemed to focus on @Ueno Mizuki and @Yugam's conversation.

"A Moonstone Golem?! That sounds so cool! How did it look like? Was it tough? Strong?"

Diego beamed.

"I am not sure how it works, but some golems aren't man made, they are simply reactions of the nature, or some sort of materialization... Though it makes it more of an elemental than a golem per se."

He said, musing about it while distracting himself from the boredom of waiting the rain to pass...

HYLANDS ASCENT - MOON KEEPER'S LAIR
Twilight
Weather: Cloudy

As the rain began slowing down, the group started gathering their resources to keep their journey through the Ascent. The rain was already gone, but the dangers it had created lingered, which forced the group to maintain caution on their marching.

Through a slippery ground and another, there were faulty steps, but each one of the group had an eye on the other, allowing them to continue to go up through those mountains, that only grew more eerie and mystical as the gigantic Moonstones become more prominent on the landscape, as if they pierced through the rough surface of the mountains, making it as if the crystals had parted it in two, opening it widely into what was called the Moon Keeper's Lair.

"We are almost there!"

In the last stretch, the little Sun Claw's voice seemed to grow happy, but also with a hint of anticipation, knowing that soon she would once again meet the friend she admired, making her hold the basket of fruits she had with her even tighter.

"My... Our purple whistle. Luthien, we are almost there!"

Diego chirped, joyful at their approach to the Lair, that had its path nearing an end...

And soon, the first few Moonstones could be seen in just a few feet of distance, with a magical glow in them that lit up the lair, that was started to become dimlight with the sun going down. Diego, nearly jumping in excitement, approached the closest Moonstone.

"Dibs! This is mine!"

He declared while grabbing the Moonstone, trying to pull it using all his strength, but the stone didn't even budge, but was quickly interrupted by Luna.

"Y-You can't pick up a Moonstone just like that, we need to talk to the Keeper first!"

"Beh- At least cutscenes are cool, so I guess it won't be bad to wait for it."

He sighed, slightly disappointed, while his wording seemed to puzzle Luna.

"Where is he, anyway?"

"Usually he greets us when we approach, but maybe he is cautious because of the bad Moonfangs..."

"As long as he doesn't try to turn us into dinner like the harpies, if it means for him to be cautious."

No longer distracted by the minor Moonstones that had appeared in their path, the group continued deeper into the Lair, with the Moonstones growing more and more, now being as common as normal rocks in the area. Well trained eyes could notice that the Moonstones they were seeing so far were mere layers of fake Moonstones, that served to shield the true Moonstones that remained protected inside of the fake ones... And a small test of endurance would prove that the fake ones were extremely durable.

Finding the Keeper seemed to be the only true way to get their hands on the actual Moonstones they needed, however, without his sight no matter how deep the moved into the Lair, a suspicious feeling began to raise between the expeditioners, along with a creeping sense of being watched crawling behind their backs.

"... Keeper!"

Luna eventually chirped, with excitement building up in her voice as she took a couple steps closer, while a silhouette of the Moon Keeper seemed to appear up by a small elevation. The silhouette, however, never reacted, tingling an uncertainty in the back of the small explorer, that tried to reach for his friend.

"Luna, wait!"

Grabbing Luna's arm, Diego was soon surprised by a volley of arrows that soon flew toward them. The arrows were fierce and certain, only being barely deflected by @Fiora Di Angelo's efforts on keeping the children safe, along with @Lune's magical protection that shielded the small Sun Claw from other effects the arrows had with them, at the cost of receiving an arrow on herself.

Diego soon found himself slightly pale, with a weakness overtaking him.

"Ghh... Wh-Why is everything blurry?"

He winced.

"This smell, th-these arrows are poisoned, Diego!"

Luna exclaimed, both worried and startled, holding her friend to help him to stand still, until a voice interrupted them.

"Nice catch. I'm glad you could've noticed, I harvest those myself... Maybe you little Sunshines aren't that dumb."

A young Moonfang boy taunted, appearing from far behind with his longbow, between some of the slopes and not too far from the Moonkeeper figure, that now was clearer to see... The large Moonkeeper figure, one with open wings and ferocious gaze as if he was in a fight, was in a petrified state, unmoving and apparently unaware of everything on his surroundings.

The sight brought a pang of fear to the Sunclaw.

"Wh... What did you do to the Keeper..? Why is..."

"He is just taking a moment to cool his head."

Another Moonfang responded as she appeared near the petrified Keeper, this one older, a woman with a long clawed cestus, clenching her fists and taking a protective step near the archer.

"Yes, little one, I would be a bit more worried about you, your little... Friend..? And these weirdos with you..? Hmm? They don't really look like Sunclaws, do they?"

With fangs bared and claws shown, a smirking Moonfang appeared, looking down at the group from a high slope.

"It doesn't matter. But there seems to be an impostor over there. Another one, just like your brother."

A black-haired showed, pointing at @Ueno Mizuki with his chin, and casting a glance from afar to the archer Moonfang.

"My brother is not an impostor. He is just a misguided idiot."

He hissed, taking a firm grip of his bow, only to get further interrupted by a thundering voice.

"Impostor or not, if they dare to stand on our way, they will suffer the consequences."

A larger Moonfang, one that emanated with an aura of fear and an oppressive gaze, loomed over a small hill. There was a dangerous calm behind his eyes, one that was more akin to a cold expression rather than patience or collected feelings. His expression remained mostly unchanged as he studied the group, with his eyes narrowing when meeting the ones of the beastfolk's, especially the younger ones.

They reeked weakness.

Having to rely on those that weren't even primal-touched to protect them even, such a disgrace it was.

The Alpha rose his hands, with a rumbling coming from the grounds while dozens of eyes slowly opened, brimming through the darkness of the surrounding area, revealing an even larger pack of Moonfangs, that while not as imposing as the first five ones, they were just as filled with a desire for fight as the others.

"Kill them."

An order came, sending shivers to Luna and Diego's spines, just as several crystals and stones erupted from the ground before flying toward @Fiora Di Angelo, disrupting the elf's attention while attempting to leave the cover that were on the two kids open.

The opening left a gap for the rogue pack to charge in, with two of them going straight for the kids, albeit they were soon blocked by blurrs, that intercepted their approach.

"Oh? If it isn't the little traitor."

"Hmph..."

The silver haired Moonfang huffed, throwing aside a limp Moonfang and reaching for a protective stance in front of Luna.

"K-Kind Moonfang!"

A scowl crossed the archer Moonfang.

"Playing hero now, brother? Tch. I thought you would come back to fight with us, not against us."

Disappointment came with a hurtful tone in his voice.

"This is not playing hero. It is not playing idiot."

He retorted, frowning at the sibling.

"I would say coming to a fight outnumbered is quite of an idiot move."

"He isn't as outnumbered as you think."

A collected voice corrected, with a hoot that followed with a sharp strike against an incoming Moonfang, and a flock of other harpiers approaching, with one already chirping with an inspiring singing -

"Lalalaaa~ So we finally found you~" She chirped. "This time for real, though~"

"FOR REAL? HELL YEAH! I HOPE THIS ISN'T ANOTHER MISUNDERSTANDING, THAT WOULD MAKE IT A THIRD!"

"Way to go and admit that we caught the wrong pack again... Well, not that it matters."

The harpy shook her head, casting a brief glance at @Luthien, while a large, vicious looking harpy approached from @Yugam's back, whispering to him.

"That's not really how I wanted us to fight again, but that works." She flapped her wings.

"Now now, stop flirting with your little crush and get your claws ready." A sigh escaped her lips. "The dinner is finally on the table, after all~ It took a bit, but... Revenge is a dish better served cold anyway~"

"S-So now what?"

"Now we hurt them." She said. "This time without a drop of mercy."

"YES MA'AM!"

As the harpies charged in, Diego struggled to stand, keeping close to Luna as he pressed a few bombs open and threw them forward, exploding to create a distraction to the enemies, opening their defences for the expeditioners to charge in.

"L-Luna, c'mon, we can't just be targets like before..."

He huffed, determined to fight despite the weakness taking over him, while the small Sunclaw nodded.

"R-Right, hmm--"

Closing her eyes, Luna muttered in an unknown language, and the Moonstone in her necklace glowed, resonating with the surrounding Moonstones and engulfing some of her allies in a protective barrier.

An ambush, it's not like she couldn't see it coming. Prepared with a protection barrier, she managed to ward off the volleys of arrows but few made it through, grazing and landing hits on her, Diego, and Luna.

"Wow, attacking women and children. Going for the weak, that's a valid hunting tactic. However,"

Quickly removing the arrow stuck in her shoulder and throwing it away, the wound almost instantaneously closed, with no sign of poison affecting her whatsoever. Not because Lune was immune to it, but rather because her metabolism was sped up exponentially to process the substance quickly.

"Just because I don't look like a combatant, you'll be wrong to think that attacks like those would do anything to me."

She looked around to count the hostiles. One, two, three, four, five, and there's a lot more. Looks like they brought the whole pack. The redhead was planning for the worst before an unexpected reinforcement came from the skies. Probably a good thing she didn't rip apart the birds from yesterday.

"Not a help we needed, but one we appreciated anyway."
Lune nodded to Wise, before looking at their common enemy, the one that looked intimidating enough to be their leader. "Iron Moon?" No, every single of them has the name 'Moon', as her UI indicated, a fact that she found funny. "We're breaching into Marvel Comics territory now?."

She would like to comment further on how all of their names have the word 'Moon' on them, but as the woman who used to go by the name of 'Moonsong' Lune just decided to shut her mouth.

Wait a minute. Moons. Luna. Lune. What's with the lunar theme lately?

Alright, time to stop fooling around. Behind the smokescreen, the woman quickly turned around, confirming that Luna wasn't poisoned before going to Diego. His hands were already shaking a little bit, prompting the songstress to use her healing powers on him.

"This is just gonna sting a little."

Now that the poison problem's dealt with, the woman turned back toward the enemies, looking at them before her eyes locked on the leader. Her skin turning metallic and multiple fins growing on her arms and body, she jumped high into the air, before propelling herself with gravity towards Iron Moon, landing gracefully in front of him on the high ground.

"Now, shall we reenact how our kind destroyed the Lunatic Tribe overnight years ago?" She grinned, taunting the Moonfang.

The Moon Keeper's Lair was a sight to behold, and even as they entered the domelike area encircled by large crystals Mizuki cast her gaze around. The luna wolf and her packmates remained near the front of the group, even now still cautious as an eerie silence covered the cave, only interrupted by their footsteps and the enthusiastic voices of the two younger companions, immune to the wariness that made the huntress and her pack narrow their eyes and sniff the air.

I doubt he'll attack us, but...

Her warning went unfinished as she spotted a strange figure in the distance. Large and bewinged, but clearly no harpy or anything like it: Mizuki wasn't sure what this Moon Keeper exactly was. What she did know, however, was that such perfect motionless wasn't natural, and even as Luna moved to meet her friend and Diego called out to her Mizuki snarled, hearing the arrows flying through the air before they struck three of their members.

Fall back.

These words were direct at the two younglings, the luna wolf stepping forward together with her packmates, their stance low and their expressions guarded as they watched the first of the Moon Fangs make his appearance. The scent of blood, fresh and old, wafted from each of the primalists that revealed themselves one by one, prickling Mizuki's nose even as her ears perked up and the fur on her tail bristled.

Imposter...?

She muttered under her breath before turning her attention to the last and biggest of the pack, her mismatched eyes fixed on his with a steeled gaze, her own Primal Aura acting up in response to his cold and ruthless presence.

With there clearly being no chance for dialogue or diplomacy she dropped onto all fours, ready to react as the lesser members of the enemy pack approached. The arrival of Azure Moon together with the harpies surprised her almost as much as it surprised the Moon Fangs, Mizuki blinking several times before shaking her head and sending a thought of gratefulness towards the silver-maned caenis.

Hunt together again.

She might have been worried that the Moon Fang would have been hesitant to fight his own kin, but it looked like he was well aware of the situation and wasn't going to let his personal feelings get in the way of protecting them... or Luna, at least.

But the conflict couldn't be delayed forever. With every player present it was time to see which side would come out on top. As one of the hostile caenes tried to get around the frontline to swipe at Luna, seemingly the weakest of the expedition at a glance, one of Mizuki's packmates would quickly shoot forward and tackle the assailant to the ground. No time was wasted on growling or posturing: the wolf bared his fangs and tore into skin and flesh, powerful jaw muscles allowing him to bite deep and rip out bloody chunks.

With Luna protected Mizuki fixed her gaze on Meek. The shy harpy might have tried to steal Diego away before, but it was pretty clear she was more likely to listen than the others.

Protect male pup.

With both Diego and Luna covered Mizuki could focus on their enemies. As Azure once again turned into a blur the huntress dashed forward as well, straight towards several of the rogue Moon Fangs that were rapidly closing the distance towards the group.

As the one in the front prepared to intercept her Mizuki suddenly launched herself forward, shooting straight past him to smash her fist into the skull of one of his friends together with all the momentum of her dash. A loud crack resounded as the Moon Fang was lifted off the ground and thrown several meters backwards, landing in a crumbled heap. Landing on her hind paws Mizuki quickly spun around to meet the other two. As one of them slashed at her with a clawed cestus she raised her own arm in defence, gritting her fangs as the cold steel bit into her flesh but failed to penetrate any deeper. Bloodvines slithered out of the wounds and wrapped themselves around the metallic vines. When the other Moon Fang tried to assist Mizuki pulled the first one towards herself so the second one's claws dug into his own partner's back.

The bloodvines dispersed and Mizuki dropped onto all fours. Putting all her weight on her hands she lashed out with her legs, sweeping the feet out from underneath the unfortunate soul who had been struck from behind by her own ally. Once her head was close enough to the ground Mizuki grabbed it and slammed it against the stone surface with enough force to make another crack resound. Raising her free hand she caught the incoming fist of the last of her immediate opponents. She pulled him further forward and as the man lost his balance he'd have only a split second to see Mizuki's fangs before the wildling's natural weapons sunk into the soft skin of his throat, leaving behind a streak of red which quickly spread as the man collapsed.

Standing back up Mizuki's yellow eye flashed sanguine, and as her Primal Aura surged until it filled the lair it conveyed a sensation which the rogue Moon Fangs might already have been familiar with: a fierce bloodlust complemented by a primal wildness which could have belonged to a Moon Fang.

In truth, it had belonged to Snefrid, Lunatic Princess, whose blood continued to flow through Mizuki's veins long after she herself had passed on.

In a display of herculean strength Mizuki picked up the Moon Fang whose throat she'd bitten, grabbing his leg with one hand and throwing him like a ragdoll, his body flying through the air until it smacked into the side of the hill Iron Moon was standing on. Mizuki herself dropped back on all fours and ran after her airborne victim. When his body hit the rocky outcrop Mizuki jumped and landed with her hind paws on his back, his ribs crackling before Mizuki jumped again, this time using him as a stepping stone on her way to the top of the hill, where the alpha wildling landed next to @Lune even as she came face to face with the opposing alpha.

I'll show you imposter.

The time spent inside the damp cavern waiting for the rain to let up had been surprisingly peaceful, but even the enjoyable interactions between Diego and Luna weren’t enough to silence the uneasiness in her mind.

Things were going surprisingly well and, if this trend continued, soon Diego and herself would have the necessary moonstone for their violet whistles. Sure, there had been a few bumps on the road, but overall the ranger knew their little group had been doing exceptionally well—even Luna had proven to be quite the adventurer despite her demure disposition.

But things are never easy here… The game proved as much to them time after time, they would be fools to believe things would fold out as they expected them too. This felt similar to the times she’d witnessed the eye of a hurricane back in her little island, the false sense of peacefulness and security that would settle in before sharp winds picked up once again and left nothing but destruction in their wake.

Her lips pressed into thin lines at the thought, before the excited voice of Diego snapped the ranger out of her mind as he asked @Yugam more about the moonstone golem he’d fought a while back. Right… no use worrying about what hasn’t happened yet. Instead she focused her attention on her violin, adjusting the melody of the strings as the singing lessons unfolded within the cavern. She wasn’t sure how much time passed, but eventually the rain had finally let up, and the group had been able to march onwards to finally meet The Keeper…

"Tch, why are they here?!" She hated that her gut instinct had been right once again, crimson eyes glaring in every direction as they picked out each and every moonfang within her sight. Already the main four guiding the pack spelled trouble for them, before a dreadful feeling crept onto her shoulders as a fifth figure appeared just over a hill.

"Kill them."

The singular command sent a shiver down her spine, and the display of power shown by the roguish pack left one thing very clear for them all: this wouldn’t be an easy fight. Lúthien hastily nocked an arrow onto her bow as the pack began to rush at them, but before the elf had the chance to fire it multiple figures soon joined the frey from their side—familiar faces that she hadn’t expected to see again.

"Like they say, third time’s the charm right?" Relief colored her words as the blonde watched the harpies stand at their sides, even Knucklehead’s booming voice was welcomed despite the ringing that it left on Lúthien’s ear. She offered a light smile and a nod to Deadpan, before her attention turned towards the brawn for brains redhead harpy. "Hey Knuckles, think you can clear out more mutts than @Mizuki over here?"

Her playful jab towards the harpy seemed to get the job done, the creature fired up after seeing the caenis and her wolven companion take down four on their own—the mangled fifth quickly finished by Azure Moon as the male made his way through the enemies. A sixth was quickly silenced by Deadpan, and the four leftover members quickly became targets of the jacked up bird as she rushed forwards to pummel the ever loving daylights outta them.

An appreciative whistle escaped from Lúthien upon seeing Knucklehead fuck up three of them, with the last remaining pack member sufficiently battered and bruised to the point they probably wouldn’t be a hindrance to their group. It had given her ample time to charge up two of her arrows, her gaze quickly shifting to the brunette by the Keeper.

"Keep your filthy claws away from the kids," A whizzing sound filled the air as both arrows were released, the lightning crackling at their tips creating a high pitched chirping effect before they embedded themselves onto their target. "And the Keeper too."

Taunting (951)

Before the moonfang had the chance to respond a sudden burst of electricity sprang out of both arrows, the scent of singed fur soon permeating in the air as the delayed strike further debilitated Lúthien’s target. Every second the Keeper spent in their petrified state would continue to distract Luna, and that could easily lead the young sunclaw to a terrible injury… or worse.

A soft whisper at her side soon made Lúthien aware of Sadistic’s presence, the white haired harpy seemingly intrigued by the ranger’s actions, before a questioning glance was given by the harpy towards the alpha of the moonfangs as @Lune and @Mizuki rushed towards him. "Fine, I’ll show you a good shot." The mirth reflected back on Sadistic’s eyes didn’t unsettle Lúthien, to the girl’s surprise, as she nocked back a third arrow onto her bow. He was quite far away from her position and, to make matters worse, having two comrades rushing the caenis didn’t make things easy for Lúthien… but she’d be a fool to miss up the opportunity of tilting the scales further into Lune’s and Mizuki’s favor as the two women rushed the boss.

"Gwyndolainn, guide my arrow…" A whispered prayer left her lips as the blonde closed her eyes, focusing on the outcome she wished to forcefully will into existence… if she could incapacitate the power he’d shown the elf was sure the Steel Reaver and Pathfinder would find a way to end it all. A deep breath filled her lungs with air before her eyes fluttered open, the grip on her bow leveled and stable as Lúthien took proper aim. Her arrow was released along with a soft exhale, elven eyes never losing sight of it as it sped through the air before finding its true mark.

"Since you chose to fuck around," There’s no way he wouldn’t take notice of her now, the tip embedded into his flesh pulsating with an eerie energy before cosmic chains sprung forth and wrapped around him. "Guess it’s time you started finding out."

Taunting (1056)

Was she nervous? Abso-fucking-lutely, though Lúthien did her best to not let it show.

Unfolding the Unknown
"The roars of the Moon Fangs sparkled war between them and the group of heroes, and the unexpected harpy allies that had come to fend off their Common Enemy..." Her voice lingered for a moment, noticing the unresponsive niece.

"Are you listening?"

"Uhhn..? Yeah... And what happened next, Auntie?" The girl rested her head against the Storyteller's arm, yawning.

"Right-" A faint smile crossed her lips. "As the fight broke through... The night continued to raise..."

HYLANDS ASCENT - MOON KEEPER'S LAIR
Nightime
Weather: Partially Cloudy

"Hmph, it isn't a children's place to be in a hunting grounds, anyway..."

Shining smirked with a gritting teeth to @Lune, readily aiming at her along with the pack of rogue Moon Fangs charged in. But the advances of the horde were quickly halted by two harpies that quickly made their way to the front of the songstress, widening their wings open as they finished their flight.

"For every beautiful song, there is a beautiful dance too~!"

Cheerful chirped melodically, swaying her hips and flapping her wings as she whistled, giving room for another harpy to charge.

"Be gone."

Deadpan huffed, slashing the pack with a swirl, following the rhythm of the colorful harpy's whistles, making blood shower across the battlefield as they opened path for the other harpies to advance, and of course, the one Moon ally they had-

"Impostor... Fight..!"

A quick glance to @Ueno Mizuki made his intentions clear. They were going all in.

Sharp claws and fierce fangs clashed, and the silvery Moon Fang rushed through the battlefield, opening wounds and sending part of the pack down, before finally aiming for his main target, tackling his brother-

"Ack-?! HEY, LET ME G-!"

"Hmph!"

Unceremoniously, Azure gripped the wrists of the struggling Shining against the ground, throwing his forehead forward to headbutt his brother's face once, twice, thrice, until the struggles slowed down to squirms, and then weak groans.

Meanwhile, the small Sun Claw tried to find a way closer to the Moon Keeper, holding the moon stone on her chest tightly as she rushed in, with Diego following right from behind.

"Hey! Wait up! We can't just run ahead, we should try to find a way around-!"

For once, he was the one sounding cautious.

"No! W-We need to hur-"

However, before Luna could finish her words, a vengeful Moon Fang leaped toward her, while the wrathful to strike Diego from behind.

"This will end quickly, kid."

"Come, little Sunshine!"

As both bared their fangs, charging in for dangerous strikes toward the small Caenis, that were caught off guard- @Luthien's volley of crackling arrows swarmed Vengeful, forcing her to stagger and back off, while @Ueno Mizuki's wolf tackled Wrath away from Diego, followed by a gigantic harpy stomping with a dive, shoving the Moon Fang down against the ground.

"HEY HEY, I LOVE SOME WOLFIES FOR DINNER, YUMMY! NOW...... GET SCREWED!"

She roared, stomping Wrath a few more times.

The two small Caenis blinked surprised at the sudden help, albeit a relief washed their minds as they tried to recover from the scare, while three other harpies approached.

"I don't know what you two are up to, but Wise said that someone close to the Moon Keeper may be able to free him..."

Meek flapped her wings, remaining protective.

"So leave the fun of killing them to us, kiddos, hurry up and rescue that guy!"

"Or keep him, bound there, it is kind of a funny sight, anyway~"

"... Ignore her..."

As the harpies encouraged the two Caenis, that rushed toward the Moon Keeper, the Alpha Moon Fang gazed at the battlefield, with his eyes narrowing at @Lune and @Ueno Mizuki.

"Impostor? Says the one that pretends to have our blood."

He scoffed.

"Your 'kind' never destroyed anything. If anything, you only made us stronger-"

As he spoke, magical chains flew at his direction, engulfing and wrapping around his limbs, forcing him to struggle, yet, to no avail at first... Until he glared at the source of the problem: A punny elf, one that he would teach a lesson, along with all of the weak preys that dared to oppose them.

"- And I... Will show you."

Gritting his fangs, he tensed his muscles, forcing his strength against the chains and his power around the Moon Stones, the rocks, and earth that was beneath his feet, and that surrounded the air he commanded...

They rose, and as the cloud sky opened, the moonlight bathed the silhouettes of the flying rocks, that eclipsed the moon before falling from the skies-

The falling Moon Stones struck everything down in its path, like a catastrophical meteor shower, aimed mostly at @Luthien, and sending her away like a ragdoll, while the clashing stones exploded into several shards, that sharply flew through the battlefield.

"Cover yourselves!"

Wise hissed, swaying her wings to try and manipulate the air around her, hoping to protect her sisters from the incoming shards... However, two of the sisters were too far to be protected-

"AARH!"

"Chirpy?! GURH!"

The two harpies were shot down by the shards, with blood splashing against the ground while a rumbling sound followed, with the violet tempest swirling at the blade of the Thunder Moon.

"Finally, the boss decided to give you some lesson... Too bad you won't be able to use what you learned today, ever again."

He thrusted his hand forward, allowing the tempest to engulf the two harpies, while Deadpan covered Cheerful, hissing in pain as the electric crackles whipped against her feathers.

The two harpies, however, weren't the only ones to fall from the volley of shards, with the two small Caenis soon being targets of the chaotic fragments of the shattering Moon Stones- However-

"Watch out!"

Diego called, throwing himself at Luna, and making the two of them roll down and crash against a boulder. The Red Whistle coughed blood off as he lost the air from his lungs, but what his mouth slipped was nothing compared to the large shard of Moon Stone, impaled and soaking his clothes with his own blood.

"Grrh... Di... Diego?! You... You are-!"

As Luna recovered from the fall, her eyes grew wide noticing the dire wound on the fellow Caenis, carefully resting a trembling hand near it, in shock and despair, quickly darting her eyes around, only to spot a near lifeless Luthien on the ground, the two Harpies being devoured by a tempest, and both Lune and Mizuki struggling to force their way toward the Iron Moon.

Diego squirmed, trying to stand, only for his body to become limp, and his breath become erratic.

"A-AH! Diego... No... No! NO!"

Luna panicked, with anxiety crawling her chest as she held the Moon Stone on her chest once again, muttering spells under her breath, over and over, yet to no avail...

... But...

She never forgot the prayers of those that respected her land.

Unlike the Impostors, that disguised by ill intent, tried to disrupt the balance.

The heroes had one last miracle before them.

❰ Uene's Blessing is Activated ❱

The Final Blessings
All Damage that occurred or will occur will only unleash at the end of the following Damage Phase.

The same Moonlight that bathed their doom, was the same Moonlight that bathed their salvation.

The wrath of the goddess warmed @Ueno Mizuki's claws and fangs with a primal determination.

The beauty of the goddess brought glory to @Lune's call and voice, bringing inspiration to the battlefield.

The defiance of the goddess gave another chance to @Luthien, challenging death itself.

And for everyone else... One last war cry... One to fend off the one that tainted her land.

Luna's necklace glew, with the Moon Stone on her chest resonating with the Moon Keeper, and the binds that wrapped him immobile, paralyzed and helpless cracked. Her saddened gaze flickered, with her downed ears perking up in surprise, and a touch on her forearm snapped her attention again.

"We... Can't stop just... Yet..."

Diego spoke, with a weak voice, using the last inches of strength left in his body, granted by the miracle that was upon them. This wasn't just about the Moon Stones anymore, nor just about a Expedition.

"... Can... Do it..."

Luna swallowed a yelp and a cry, with her squeezing shut eyes soon opening widely, with a glance at the heroes that continued to fight, along with the cracking prison that kept the Moon Keeper locked away giving a hint of hope to her.

Casting one last glance at the fellow Caenis, she trusted that he would be fine, as long as all of them managed to go through it--

They rushed.

Their allies needed help.

The Iron Moon was close.

The Moon Keeper was close.

And the ever glowing Moon Stones called for faith, as the small Caenis rose her hands toward the Moon Keeper, with a plea, a prayer, and a cry-

"MOON KEEPER!"

Critical Success

"Tch!" Her tongue clicked the roof of her mouth upon seeing Vengeful Moon still standing after her barrage, a part of the elf having hoped the chained lightning from her arrows might’ve been enough to do away with one of the pack members in full. However they had succeeded in keeping them away from Diego and Luna, and the sight of the three of the harpies and Mizuki‘s own wolven companion joining up with them allowed Lúthien a sigh of relief.

She would trust the safety of the duo to the four accompanying them towards the petrified Keeper.

As the astral chains wrapped around the alpha, their grip tight and unwavering, the blonde couldn’t help the satisfied smirk that had crossed her lips. The tide had been turning in their favor when the harpies had come to their aid, their common enemy now outnumbered, now it was just a matter of time before they brought them down—!

She felt Tirsk tremble under her cloak, the basilisk’s grip tightened as a crooned hiss echoed from their throat. Before Lúthien had the chance to check on her little hatchling the ground underneath their feet began to tremble and quake, the glow from the moonstones around them intensifying before large boulders of rocks and gemstones lifted high into the air… "Fuck—!!!"

Wise’s warning came too late as the cluster of moon stones flew towards them at full force, and while the elf managed to manifest a last minute astral barrier to try and guard herself it had quickly crumbled against the unexpected force of the Iron Fang. "GYAAAH!" Her wails joined those of the two harpy sisters, the impact of the armageddon sending her body flying with immense ease before the limp body of the ranger finally rolled onto a stop.

Not… yet… The world began to disappear from her eyes as darkness encroached her vision, a high pitched ringing in her ears muffling the sounds of those around her as Lúthien struggled to remain awake. Her chest felt heavy and every inhale of air felt like breathing in needles into her lungs, but despite it the elf refused to cave into the blissful temptation that called out and promised to quickly put an end to all the pain she felt. Please… "... n-not yet!!!!"

Fingers stubbornly dug into the soil as the blonde tried to defy her very fate, before the moonlight washed over the battle as the goddess rewarded their tenacity and answered their prayers. While the pain was still there it felt as if a veil had been placed over to numb it, though with each passing second she could feel it slowly returning. A miracle had been granted to them, fleeting as it might be, and the girl refused to let this once in a lifetime opportunity slip past her grasp.

"Tirsk… go with p-papa." She'd been thankful to find the basilisk mostly without harm, having shifted her protection at the very last second to the small creature when Lúthien realized she couldn’t contest the strength of Iron Moon. They crooned quietly, the grip of their tiny claws tightening against the fabric of her shirt. "P-please… listen to momma this time, okay?"

Her hand rose to give them a loving scratch, before quietly moving to loosen the hold of the hatchling on her. They finally relented, allowing her to safely deposit them onto the ground before the ranger struggled back onto her feet. By the time Lúthien had raised her bow high once more Tirsk had already skittered through the battleground to find @Yugam, anxious clicks and chirps leaving the basilisk’s throat as their sharp claws dug into the fabric on his clothes and hoisted the hatchling up and towards a safe spot underneath the man’s cloak.

"Sisters… please heed my call."

The arrows inside her quiver shook and resonated with the energy that engulfed the battle field, and never had Lúthien found it so easy to imbue her magic into them as her fingers brushed each fletching that remained. Thank you, Uene… a gift for a gift. One by one the elf nocked seven arrows high into the sky, their shining tips forming a constellation in the sky. The Pleiades was one of the many Greek mythical tales that she remembered reading about when young, and perhaps it was unsurprising that the ranger unconsciously sought out their aid in a time of need given her own mastery of the bow.

"Keep those near and dear to me safe," The stars shone, before one after another the arrows fell back onto the soil. The first landed close to Luna and Deadpan, with a second striking the ground besides @Fiora Di Angelo and @Yugam, before a bright flare emerged from them as the magic within wrapped around each one—forming a protective shield that remained with them regardless of where they moved.

"Guide our aim so it may be true," A third stroke the ground besides @Lune and @Mizuki, before the magic within it wrapped around the caenis’ claws and the Steel Reaver’s hands. "And bring divine retribution to those who dare do us harm!"

With a blinding flash and a thunderous sound the last four arrows flew straight for Iron Fang, their metal tips easily piercing flesh and embedding themselves deep into the moonhound’s shoulders and knees. The remaining arrows inside her quiver shone as, one after the other, the elf unleashed a volley onto the leader of the pack

I’ll see you all back in the village… Her eyes carefully roved over each familiar face, knowing she wouldn’t be making the trip back with the others, but determined to drag Iron Moon down with her. They lingered for a moment longer on @Diego, before she gave her fellow red whistle a cheeky grin. "Bring back enough moonstones for both of us, alright~?"

With a snap of her fingers all the stored lightning in her arrows was unleashed in one final and mighty thunder…

The ruthless moonstone rain gave Lune no room to breathe. The continuous damage from direct impact or exploding shards wasn't the problem, but it made the songstress redirect all her attention to defending and regenerating, enabling the rogue moonfangs to jump her from behind, clawing and bashing through her metallic skin before dragging her off below.

All seemed lost, but it would be a bad day to die, especially when the moon was so beautiful tonight. They called, and the moon blessed.

A single hum suddenly echoed, then silence.

Seconds later, a considerably smaller, thinner Lune climbed back where she left off, in front of Iron Moon. The lack of the massive, protruding spike on her chest indicated that the only resource she had stored left was only the black luster metallic layer on her skin. "Those clothing were really expensive, you know." She complained.

"That attack almost took me down."
Her hands motioned, pulling together broken-off shards of metal with her gravity magic to block off oncoming moonstones, before connecting into her backside. "But evil schemers like you will never win," The metallic shards forming the wings on her back oscillated rapidly, emitting a pleasant-sounding, high-pitched melody that filled her allies with determination.

"As long as we, the starcalled, are here!"

With a smaller, more compact physique, Lune flew around faster and more agile, circling Iron Moon before deciding to gravity boost towards him from the back and delivering a well-placed kick onto his head to distract him. Her effort wasn't enough, because the shard rain wasn't stopping. In a split-second, she noticed both Luna and Diego, and quickly decided to rush toward them. Whatever they were planning, they won't survive under the barrage of moonstones.

Gritting her teeth, the songstress raised both of her hands and for a few seconds, nulled the gravity above them, stopping the hail and buying the girl some time. "Luna, now!" Her shardwings slowly began to fall apart with every second that passed. Her sight turned to Thunder Moon, who was concentrating on the Tempest Zone.

She decided to redirect all the suspended moonstones toward the moonfang, with the hope that Thunder Moon would lose all her grasp on the harpies for even a second.

Standing in front of Iron Moon, Mizuki snarled as even with her own Primal Aura answering his, as primal and fierce as his was cold and cruel, the large caenis still refused to acknowledge her. She knew that being acknowledged by natural Moon Fangs would be a challenge, but that didn't mean his dismissive attitude didn't piss her off.

With her wolves busy helping the other expedition members (and the harpies) it was only herself and @Lune against the boss of the Moon Fang pack. She saw Diego and Luna going for the Moon Keeper, which gave her an additional reason to make sure the large opponent before her was kept busy: if the two of them somehow managed to free the winged entity from its stony prison it might be able to help deal with these interlopers.

If you can't even recognise me there's no point in talking.

The information she'd managed to gather suggested that the Lunatic Tribe had been considered an oddity even amongst the Moon Fangs, but for this male to both ignore Snefrid's aura and dismiss Lune's reference to when the Lunatic Tribe got wiped out was strange. Strange enough that her confusion kept Mizuki from taking advantage of @Luthien's magic wrapping around Iron Moon, giving him the opportunity to break free and answer the elf's magic with his own. With rocks rising up all around them the wildling narrowed her eyes, dropping on all fours and tensing in preparation for what would come next.

With the majority of the barrage focused on the archer who'd decided to taunt the boss Mizuki was left only having to deal with the aftermath as a veritable rain of stone shards flew throughout the cavern, her ears picking up several cries from those who weren't in position to protect themselves from the onslaught. To avoid getting shredded Mizuki ducked low, blood hardening underneath her skin to prevent any of the shards from penetrating deeper.

Stay low!

The non-verbal command would hopefully remind some of her allies that when the air was filled with pain it might be better to hug the ground. For the harpies that might especially be a counter-intuitive approach.

However, even as the big bad wolf assailed them with his mastery of rock and stone the clouds parted and the moonlight shone down on them... and in part thanks to Luna's prayer the moonlight blessed them with more than just illumination.

The shrapnel that had managed to find Mizuki's body fell off, the wounds still there but no blood flowing from them. Her jaw was set and her fangs were bared, her claws hard enough to actually pierce the stone ground. Her fur bristled and her twin moon eyes glowed, focused solely on Iron Moon.

While there were allies in need of assistance she knew that her companions would do what they could... although she didn't think that even with Uene's blessing there was much any of them could do to save Luthien by this point.

But what Mizuki could and would do was make sure that Iron Moon went down.

With Luthien's arrows striking the Moon Fang's joints to halt his movement, and Lune's kick to the back of his head rattling his brain to delay his response, there was little the towering male could do as the primal wildling closed the distance, her Primal Aura moving even faster than her to wrap around Iron Moon and make sure he felt every last drop of her bloodthirst and killing intent.

When wolves hunted their prey they had two main strategies.

With vulnerable prey, you immediately went for the throat.

With stronger prey, you broke them down before going for the kill.

MOON FANG - LUNATIC DANCE

MOON FANG - LUNATIC DANCE

Mizuki turned into a feral storm, with Iron Moon caught in the midst of it. There was no elegance or finesse: only a Moon Fang would recognise the beauty of such savagery, the raw, naked reality of the natural world with all romanticizations stripped away. Claws tore muscles apart, fangs ripped open veins, and knuckles shattered bones. These blows weren't meant to kill, but each one would leave her prey weaker, more vulnerable, until finally the only future left was death.

Once her prey's resilience had been crushed she spun on one hind paw and smashed the other into the side of his head. At the same time, blood finally poured from her own wounds while she pulled back one arm, the sanguine liquid racing down her shoulder to give form to thorned bloodvines. Like living tendrils, they wrapped around her arm and shot forward towards her prey. Thorns dug into his flesh like fangs, anchoring themselves before pulling Iron Moon's body towards Mizuki... and her claw towards his chest.

The impact forced the wildling's hand past her prey's ribcage. Powerful fingers wrapped themselves around his beating heart. The hind paw which had first kicked Iron Moon's head now stomped on his throat. Using her leg as a brace Mizuki pulled her hand back. As she had done before in the past, and as had been done to her, she tore Iron Moon's heart from his chest, streams of blood connecting the beating organ to the cavity where it had resided for so long.

Weak.

And with that, the connection was cut. The blood fell to the ground, the heart stopped beating, and with a final push of her hind paw Mizuki toppled the caenis before her, leaving him to crash onto the rocks he'd wielded in life while she towered over him, heart firmly held in her clawed hand.

Unfolding the Unknown
"The battle escalated to its climax. With the Bless of Uene, the heroes had one more chance to finish it all, using everything they had." Her gaze narrowed at the skies. "Rescued, the harpies were now safe and ready to continue their fight, and with the empowerement, there was no way the enemy would be able to hold back any longer..."

"Even with the tides turned, however, it didn't mean the fight was anywhere close to be won. They went through, and with sacrifices needing to be made..." Her voice rumbled.

"Ack- L-LUTHIEN! NO! Please..."

The boy pleaded, just as his fellow Whistle erupted the battlefield with a thunderous power, that trembled earth and hearts alike, blasting her foes away and giving the openings necessary for her allies to charge for another flurry of attacks, and for the harpies to protect themselves.

Her body fell, however, lifeless and limp while the small Caenis boy yelled for her name, which were the last things she heard, along with the sight of the desperate basilisk before darkness wrapped her senses for good.

@Luthien, you are DEAD.

"A heroic soul had fallen, but the morale of her allies didn't allow her sacrifice to be in vain. The songstress, roaring for war, called the ancient glory the Starcalled always brought with them, becoming the harbinger of the Rogue Moon Fang's fall." Her fists clenched.

"A little... More..! KEEPER!"

The girl forced her faith and power further into the bindings of the Keeper, with bolstered magic coming from the protection and the inspiration of @Lune, that was the reliable ally she had on her side. The moon bathed and blessed their attempts to crack the shells of the Keeper's prison, and after another leap of faith, it all shattered.

The winged guardian roared, scorching all Moon Fangs with its wrath and grandeur, staggering them in awe and fear momentarily.

Moon Keeper has been FREED.

"Cornered like a prey, the tyrannical Iron Moon could feel his sins piling up, eventually growing into an ultimatum as his nemesis approached. A wave of ferocious bloodlust, one with the primal origins he no longer held in his instincts, nor in his spirit." Her eyes closed.

"Ah... Cough- Cough- Grrr... Aaah..."

His gaze locked on @Ueno Mizuki, and an erratic and faltering breath escaped his trembling lips, watching his bloodied heart beating, far away from his chest. That silhouette, filled with fury and glory of a true hunter.

Ah, that brought memories back... Since when he had averted from the true path of the Moon Fang? He was so pathetic. Yet, he was vaguely blessed to see the reminder, of what it was meant to be a true Moon Fang, moments before one last gasp, and a clenching lips that slowly turned into a regretful smile.

Iron Moon has been VANQUISHED.

"With the last breath of the Iron Moon escaping from his lungs, the Rogue Moon Fangs wore an expression of disbelief. Their leader had been defeated, by a group of supposed imposters. There was no other choice for them, but to respect the ones that had defeated them, though, as there was no more way for them to fight in their conditions... And it wasn't like they could fight back the caenis that had proved to be the true Alpha between them."

"After securing all of them to be surrendered and defeated, it didn't take long for the elf of the group, that had just sacrificed herself, to reappear and materialize in the Moon Keeper's Lair, that acted as a type of Temple, which Starcalled could be once again be brought to life, with their... Immortality. Diego was quick to go for her, throwing himself at her with a tight embrace, using the last few remains of strength he had in his body."

"And finally, Luna, at last meeting the Moon Keeper, could explain everything that had occurred, and the intention of her new found friends for their journey to the Lair. The Moon Keeper had acknowledged their worth, especially as it felt so connected to the songstress that had helped to bolster the spirits of the group, and was part of the responsible for linking the power necessary for him to be freed from his crystalized prison.

"The harpies, joyfully recovered their eggs, and with the vengeance concluded, they followed the group, that now travelled in the following morning to the Tranquil Falls Village... Where they had, for one last time, a celebration of victory, glory, and perhaps, a new era for the village, that now accepted the outsiders as heroes of the village.

...

The End.

The Listener was no longer there, and neither was the Storyteller, as she closed her story book, one last time.

VALLEY OF THE SUN - TRANQUIL FALLS VILLAGE
Morning
Weather: Sunny & Windy

As the group returned to the Village, the Moon Keeper, acknowledging the heroes' worth, offered the so desired blessed Moonstones. It brimmed with a holy energy, one that warmed the wielder's heart, and filled them with the inspiration to achieve more.

Nearing the Village, the group was initially received with suspicion, especially with the presence of the harpies and the captured Moon Fangs. But the Moon Keeper's presence, and the missing pup girl caught their attention, and they were quick to vaguely welcome them. The wary approach soon turned into a full celebration, considering their worries had been solved by the group of heroes that by chance decided to step into their territory.

Food and drinks were served, and though some couldn't fully enjoy it, being too busy locked down, most of them enjoyed their time, especially under such a nice sunny and windy weather.

"I still can't believe the Alpha is gone..." Her fists clenched behind her back.

"... Get used to it. Thanks to him, we are stuck in this shithole." He scoffed. "Alpha my arse. That guy talked big, and we fell for it."

"I'm more concerned about what will happen to us, than what already happened." She hissed.

"That... is a good question." Her lips pursed, with a flinch following as a couple of Sun Claws spat near her leg, being retorted with a low growl.

"We will be gone, that is what will happen. I bet they are just thinking on the best way to get rid of us-"

Before they could allow their imagination to go wild, a small Sun Claw approached, they had a wide smile on their lips, and a plate filled with juicy meat they had placed near the three of them. "Have a nice meal!" They said, with innocent joy. They had just helped someone!

"Oh... Uhm... Thanks?" She looked at the kid, walking away. "That was sweet of them..."

"Yes, but how we are supposed to eat it?" She squirmed her tied hands for emphasis.

"... Either this is some weird torture, or they want us to eat with our mouths only."

"... No... No. I think it was just a dumb kid. That's all." She said. "... A nice, dumb kid."

"... Here" Azure approached his brother, offering a plate of food, sitting with crossed legs next to him.

"... Hmph..." He looked away.

"No eat?" Azure tilted his head.

"Piss off. I am not hungry." He huffed, but his stomach growled almost immediately, showing his blatant lie.

A half smile crossed Azure's lips. "Meow from mouth, roar from stomach. Shiny has always been weird like that."

Red faced, he turned to look at his brother, gritting his teeth. "AAAAH! Shut up! That's so damn humiliating, fuck!" He lamented, for the entertainment of his brother.

He nodded. "I can shut up. Yes." He rested the plate between the two of them. "Can I stay?"

"... Why..?" He frowned.

"I missed you."

"...!!" He blinked, flushing before letting out a sigh. "Do as you wish." He mumbled, stubborning.

"THAT GUY THERE IS A 8/10, HE HAS A PRETTY FACE, BUT ISN'T JUICY ENOUGH, SO I DOUBT I CAN PECK HIM WITHOUT RIPPING HIS LEG OFF!"

"Hmm... Honestly? The idea of being able to peck his leg off makes me give him a 10/10."

"REALLY? WOW, YOUR TASTE SUCKS, SADDIE!"

"Hahaha~ It is just a personal taste... What do you think, Vic?"

"Hm? Huh? What?"

"YOU WEREN'T LISTENING? DAMN GIRL, STOP BEING SO LOVESTRUCK WITH THAT BLOOD BLOODY GUY, HE ALREADY HAVE SOMEONE."

"Maybe that's exactly what makes him so attractive to her~"

"?!" Her feathers perked up, and a gritting teeth covered her mouth as she tackled Sadistic. "Why you little?! Take this, fucking hag!"

"Ahahahaha~ Not there, not there! It tickles!"

"WOOO-! CHICKEN FIGHT, CHICKEN FIGHT~!" She cheered on.

"Hehe, look at them go. These three are always doing something funky~"

"... Yeah."

"Hmm~? What is wrong, Dead?"

"... Nothing."

"Nothing? That isn't what your face tells though!"

"Since when you can read my face, anyway? Nobody can."

"I can~ Reading the face of my hero is eaaasy~" She sing-sang.

"He... Hero..?"

"Yes, hero!" She flapped her wings. "You are always trying to take care of me, so you are my heeeero!"

"... Ok..."

"And know what else I know?" She asked, letting it linger before leaping on Deadpan, snuggling. "That you wanna a hug!"

"... O-Ok..." She fidgeted, but also, didn't really resist it.

Wise gently caressed the egg that had been rescued, while cuddling another, hiding on a quiet corner of the celebration.

"Oh. Wise." Meek was surprised, noticing the older harpy as she approached, holding three eggs on her wings. "Can I stay here? I don't know where to put these eggs."

Wise nodded, gesturing next to her. "It is the only quiet place I found. These Sun Claws are too rowdy."

"Yeah. I bet they will immediately crack the eggs to make omeletes if we leave these alone." Meek sighed.

Wise chuckled, tracing a feather on the egg. "I think it would be fine. We won something very precious today, aside from saving our eggs... Allies. And that is what will help us to keep protecting each other even more."

"You think this will last?" Meek wondered.

"Not only I think. I am sure."

"Hm... If you say so. You are the Wise, after all." Meek laid the eggs carefully on the ground, resting near them and embracing them in a warm hug.

"Not that wise. I did lead the ambush to the wrong folk three times in a row."

"Three times? Wasn't it just two times?" Meek asked, confused.

Whistle.

"... Wise?!" Meek's eyes widened.

"Long time no see, Keeper, sweetie!"

"I will never understand your insolence of calling me 'sweetie'."

"Aw, c'mon, you know we are like, besties by now."

"..?"

"... Wow, that's kinda cold, man." He chuckled. "But I guess lil Luna is catching all your attention, right? Hah, she reminds me when I was younger..."

"Forsoth. If you ignore her incredible potential and wonderful discipline."

"Oi, that hurts, man. I was very diligent, you know. I've never forgotten how to make those talismans!"

"You mean those counterfeits I taught you, for you to stop pestering me?"

"What?! I can't believe it, they aren't real?!"

"Of course not. But you sure make them in a way it looks fake."

"Now, that is just mean."

They stayed silent for a couple seconds, before both of them bursted into a laughter together, with Ataru giving the Moon Keeper a full strength push, for a joke, barely making the Moon Keeper budge before he tail slapped Ataru, sending him rolling on the ground.

Diego fidgeted on the Blessed Moonstone, letting it reflect on the sunlight, smiling proudly at it until a silhouette covered the sun.

"Hmm?"

"Hey!" She greeted, holding a plate of food.

"Heeey!" He chirped. "Perfect timing, Luna, both food wise, and to help me with something."

"Sure, what do you need?" She asked, sitting next to him, on the fallen log he was using as a seat.

Snatching a piece of meat with a free hand, he waved the Blessed Moonstone with the other hand. "So, you use this thing here as a necklace, right? How do you pierce that and put on a necklace without breaking it?" He tossed the meat into his mouth, eating it as he waited for a response.

"Huh? Uhm... Just like any other stone?" She rested a hand on the log. "I am not sure how to make these things out of the Blessed Moonstone though." She pointed at the whistle that rested on Diego's chest.

"Hm? Oh, the whistle? Nah... I won't use this for a whistle. Not anymore." He shrugged. "I just wanted the necklace."

"Really? Why? Didn't you just come here for it?" She asked, surprised.

"Well, yeah." He admitted. "But... Honestly? I can make a whistle with a normal Moonstone. If I make a whistle with a Blessed Moonstone, soon I will have to upgrade my whistle, and I won't have the Blessed Moonstone with me anymore, so... It is kinda of a waste, you know?"

"Oh..." She nodded, slowly.

"As a necklace though? It will be with me forever. So I can remember this adventure we had together forever, and that worth more than a thousand whistles, you can bet!" He huffed. "Whistles are just formalities, adventures, experiences and friends... They are very eternal. Heh!"

"You..." Luna blushed, and a small smile formed in her lips. "You are right. But... You can also remember more adventures... Coming here to adventure again. Right?" She fidgeted.

"Hell yeah, of course! And I plan to, this place is awesome after all... Besides, here, I have an exploration partner." He grinned, leaning closer to the fellow Caenis. "You will come with me, in more expeditions?"

"Me..? Exploration partner?" Luna blinked, surprised at the offer, but eager to respond: "S-Sure, let's do it!" She nodded, with a tail wagging rapidly in excitement.

"Amazing! We will be invincible, Luna! Just watch it! HAHA!" He perked up.

The rest of the day went on, with celebrations, happiness, and a lot of food to fill the hungry tummies, and rest their tired bodies, for them to soon chase a brand new adventure.

Mizuki was surprised at how quickly the rest of the Moon Fangs surrendered once their leader had been taken down. Compared to the Lunatics she was familiar with they were a lot more subdued.

She wasn't one to complain when life was easy, although on the way back she did keep an eye on them, her wolves also making sure that if the Moon Fang pack tried anything they'd be the first ones to notice. Thankfully such wariness ended up being unnecessary, but neither the wildling nor her packmates were inclined to leave that up to chance.

Given that the Sun Claw village had already been wary of her presence the first time around it came as no surprise that returning with man-eating harpies and the mortal enemies of the villagers would result in a rather cold reception. Thankfully both the Moon Keeper and Luna managed to clear things up, although Mizuki refrained from joining the celebrations, taking the opportunity to enjoy the nice weather instead as she remained at the edge of the village.

This did put her in a good position to listen in on the Moon Fangs as they talked to one another. The wildling stroked the mane of one of her wolves even as she raised her eyebrows, then shook her head and stood up as she heard one suggest that they were going to be eliminated. Given the enmity between the Moon Fang and the Sun Claw it wasn't an unreasonable concern, but Mizuki had other plans.

I wouldn't have expected you to place dignity above a good meal.

Approaching the Moon Fangs Mizuki placed a hand on her hip. Her two wolves lifted their heads to watch as their leader approached the captured caenes, but then returned to resting peacefully as the wind brushed their fur coats.

You'll have to put up with it for now. Getting you all back to Moonfall is going to take a while, and if I removed your bindings everyone would lose their minds.

After all, on top of the traditional hostility between the two tribes this particular pack had been causing a lot of trouble, to put it mildly. Mizuki was pretty sure that the rest of the expedition wouldn't be happy either.

Mizuki had managed to get rid of all the blood she'd been splattered with during that battle inside the moonstone cave. The taste of Iron Moon's heart was still on her tongue, although she was pretty sure it would fade fairly quickly. While the freshness had been a plus it still didn't compare to Snefrid's, and she was starting to suspect that it would take years before she'd come across something that could.
