Beauty and Moon (Individual)

After the matter with Luna was settled Mizuki would return to her original plan. The delays had been worthwhile, improving the atmosphere within the village and providing useful information about a Moon Fang who was for some reason hanging around in the area, but she had come here to pray to Uene in the hope it would make their journey a bit easier... or at least prevent the fickle deity from bringing her wrath down upon them for their lack of reverence.

Fiora had made it clear she thought it better to avoid interacting with the divine if at all possible, but Mizuki saw them as environmental hazards that you had to put up with. That, and she wasn't certain it was possible to avoid Uene's attention entirely in the Hylands.

Walking up to the torii she studied the familiar yet foreign structure, the crescent moon at the top making it clear that this shrine was dedicated to one specific deity and no others. Her wolves looked up as well, less curious than their leader but following her gaze nonetheless.

I still don't know if the name is an omen or not.

If the people of this village had asked for her name they might have figured out she really wasn't a traditional Moon Fang... but they might have responded badly as well. Back when Mizuki gave herself the last name Ueno she had no idea that the patron goddess of the caenes would be called Uene. Different enough that it didn't have to mean anything, similar enough that she worried that the more devout might take offence.

Her packmates listened but didn't give any reply. To them, the names of humanoids held little meaning, if they comprehended them at all. Shaking her head Mizuki told them to follow her example using her Primal Aura before bowing towards the shrine beyond the torii, the two canines inclining their heads as well before the three of them stepped beyond the torii's boundaries.

The fountain was well-tended, as would be expected of a shrine close to a village. Mizuki didn't think that Uene really expected her packmates to follow the same customs as the humanoids, but they were intelligent enough that she might as well have them be part of the visit, no matter how silly others might find it. After going through the purification ritual herself she squatted down and washed the front paws of the two wolves and made them drink some of the water, glaring at one of them when he tried to drink directly from the fountain before she pinched his neck as a warning.

Getting them to give an offering... was a bit trickier. After a lot of work she managed to make them take hold of some coins with their maws before dropping them into the box, which she personally declared to be good enough, especially since they weren't wasting any effort in complaining.

However, when it came to the actual prayer she had to admit defeat. No amount of guidance would make a wolf capable of clapping. The best she could do was tell them to bark twice and hope that Uene understood that was as close as her two packmates could get to performing the prayer.

At least they remained silent outside of the two short barks, understanding that even if they were only following Mizuki's instructions their leader at the very least saw some significance in it.

For Mizuki herself the rituals were a lot simpler, and soon she was standing there in front of the shrine with her packmates by her side, clapping her hands twice and closing her eyes as she tried to direct her Primal Aura at the shrine, hoping it would help the process along.

Thankfully her prayer was short and simple, making it easy to convey silently: the pack she was currently running with was crossing Uene's domain to retrieve some moonstones as a way to prove their worth, and she hoped that showing the goddess respect at her shrine would move her to either help them avoid disaster or at the very least not decide to throw more trouble their way.

@Ueno Mizuki's Primal Aura felt like it reached somewhere. It didn't feel like it fell into deaf ears, and this was confirmed as she felt something akin to her own Aura returning.

Avoiding disaster would require wisdom and awareness.

Danger was certain to be in their path, but if they were worth, they would go through it.

She wouldn't meddle with the affairs of the mortals, however...

Have you been following the Serene Beauty's advice?

As long as you did, Uene's Blessing is activated.

Unfolding the Unknown
< Continuing from Comms >

@Fiora Di Angelo, in her scouting around the outskirts, didn't find anything particularly dangerous in the immediate surroundings, though she couldn't help but notice large winged creatures from afar, perhaps even on the path they were eventually going to take.

After a brief respite and interaction in the village, the group eventually reunited by the outskirts, without the horses that would no longer hinder their travel uphill and eventually up to the mountains...

However, at the meeting, the new face that was with @Luthien, @Yugam and @Ueno Mizuki, caught Diego's curiosity, that had just been approaching with @Lune.

"Oh, hey there!" He chirped, raising his hand to the native girl, only to realize that they were rather far from the village by now. "Uh... Are you lost? The village is over there!"

He pointed, looking at the trio that was with the kid, shaking his head disappointed, he knew they weren't being the best at pathfinding, but the village was just a couple minutes away from there!

"U-Uhm... Hi..." Luna backed off slightly, tilting her head. "I am not lost... I'm coming with them... To visit the Keeper..."

"Aaah! Alright- Erh-" His twin-tails swayed, and he glanced at the rest of the group with a puzzled and hesitant expression, ready to open his mouth to offer a mild protest, but then, his eyes met the moonstone on her necklace, making his eyes brim. "OH! A moonstone? How did you get this one?"

"Th-This?" Luna tugged her necklace. "The Keeper gave to me..."

"The Keeper, is this a friend of yours?" Diego inquired.

"A friend?!" Luna's ears perked up, and her cheeks turned rosy. "A-A friend may be a bit too much... He'd never called me that, but... I do like him..." She fidgeted.

Diego watched the girl's reaction for a moment, until his eyes opened widely, and it was almost visible that a light bulb had just sparkled on top of his head.

"I see, I see! Hah! Well, the more the merrier, is what I always say!" Diego beamed, approaching Luna and offering a handshake.

Luna looked at the hand, then back at Diego before hesitantly going for the shake, which was when he pressed it firmly.

"Welcome abroad, my name is Diego, and it is nice to meet you, new Explorer! It is a relief, even-!" Diego leaned in, whispering: "There are only old killjoys around, so I'm glad to have someone around that lacks a bit of responsibility like me-"

"Ah... My name is Luna... Uhmm... Re... Responsibili- Wah?!"

Luna squeaked as Diego nearly dragged her.

"TO THE MOUNTAINS, MY FRIENDS! & Luna"

He exclaimed, marching relentlessly, while Luna struggled to keep up as she was pulled by the hand.

"W-Wait!"

"Their travel then resumed, with a small new companion, they could once again venture through the colossal Hyland mountains, for them to seek the moonstone the explorers so much needed..." She told, gesturing with her hands, making illusory illustrations of the story.

The girl's eyes sparkled, and she perked up. "Is that now that the adventure starts, Auntie?!" The girl wondered, tugging on the Storyteller's sleeve excitedly.

A faint chuckle escaped the Storyteller's lips, and she looked at the Listener with a raising eyebrow. "You sure are eager some action, aren't you..?"

"Yes! I want to see the elf archer and the flame guy again- And these new heroes too!" The girl clasped her hands.

"Pff... Right..." The Storyteller shook her head, clearing her throat. "But the enemy of the heroes at the moment, wasn't made out of flesh or wielded weapons, but rather, it was the own harsh biome of the mountains... A steep path, a faulty step, the danger of falling and rolling all the way down... Yet, no matter how dangerous the situation was, they remained determined... However wary of their surroundings... Even if the sun was soon to fade..."

HYLANDS ASCENT - TRANQUIL FALLS PATH
Sunset
Weather: Calm and Clear

Each step was rougher than the other. If it wasn't for the supernatural constitution of their bodies, the travelers would be long gone by now, fallen flat or already camping to rest for the following day. But truth be told, it was a fact that they were taking far longer than they should've, and the orange-golden sky was proof of it, with the grand star ready to bid its farewell, only to raise once again in the next morning.

The group decided to use every inch of sunlight time they had, especially if some of them had to log out or fulfill particular necessities that their real bodies needed... However, they couldn't stop to rest just yet, not when they were around the same spot that the elven fighter had spotted the strange sight of large winged creatures.

Such concerns, however, didn't seem to cross at the explorer and the native, with the former sweating bullets despite energically keeping up with their hiking and climbing, while the girl remained firm, travelling through those obstacles as if it was her a free and smooth path.

"A little more... And we will need to pause and rest..." She said, slipping a brief sigh.

"Hmm... This place is too open though, we need to hurry to somewhere safer." Diego looked at Luna, soon inquiring: "Don't you know any good spot, Luna?"

"U-Uhm..." Her ears twitched, and she looked around, especially to the sun and trying to figure out their position. "We could find some empty, small caves around here..."

"Small caves..." Diego pondered, peeking at the group, then smiling. "Well, it should be good enough for us, aside from those two amazons, we aren't that spatious!"

He gestured at @Fiora Di Angelo and @Lune.

As the two spoke, however... Good ears and wary ones would be able to notice something strange in the area... The lack of animals, and the silence that at first felt deep aside from the voices of the two kids exchanging a conversation, but soon it would prove to have something hinting beneath it...

Voices, quiet ones, from above and from treelines...

(These dialogues can be heard by those with Enhanced Senses, or if those that have a particularly high Awareness value).

"Food, food~ Finally some food~" She licked her lips greedily.

"A-Are you really sure we need to do this..?" One asked.

"Ugh! Stop being a crybaby, we just need to kill them quick and it will be fine!" Another deflected the protest.

"Yeah, I'm tired of eating these stupid birdseed and fruits, they are yuck-!" She spat on the ground.

"Ah~ As much as I adore seeing you struggling, sweetheart, I have to agree... The lack of meat has been horrible for my feathers... Look at them, they look so weak right now-" A sigh escaped her lips.

"Hmph. Some of those travelers are the wolves though. It won't be easy." Another harpy pointed out.

"It is a risk we will need to take." A collected voice said. "Two of them are cubs, only one is a grown up, we may have a chance..."

"I am not sure about this-" Worriedly, she plucked a feather out.

"Shh... It will be okay... We must do it." She comforted. "They have grown greedy, we need to fight for our food too..." Her gaze then hardened, focused. "Alright, let's follow with the usual plan... It worked last time."

"Yes ma'am!"

The voices, or even sight of the creatures gave a small, yet very precious, time for the group to prepare, hurrying to position themselves, hopefully to be in the most protective and advantageous position possible.

However, it didn't take long for shadows to suddenly run through them, as their attackers appeared-

The first one to catch their attention was a catchy harpy, one of coloured feathers, effulgent in both looks, movements and voice, that echoed through the sunset bathed path and rose the spirits of her sisters.

This gave them room for the next harpy to approach, silent and sharp, it went straight to her target without thinking twice, trying to catch and bring them to the skies where they would be defenseless.

The timid one followed right ahead, rather hesitant and clumsy, but doing her best to snatch someone away, while trying to keep a careful flight and gain distance.

Pure brute force then showed its colors, with the bulkiest harpy the group had ever seen landing with all of her 10 feet of height, trampling and crushing everything in her path with her herculean power.

Followed by a harpy of elegant plumage, that was only elegant on looks, for its approach to be as subtle as a ferocious tigress that hungrily reaped everyone she could touch.

A last one approached, swaying and provoking, with eerie eyes and aura that both tempted to harm her, at the same time something in her made anyone that looked at her have their souls tremble.

From afar, observant and careful eyes scanned the battle, watchful and concerned, waiting for the right moment to step in.

  • Only up to 4 units can be in a single Zone. Whenever you are using Flight, put a +1, +2, +3 by the end of your Zone coordinate to indicate how many Zones you are above. (For example, Zone E3+2 is Zone E3, flying two zones above it)
  • At the spawn distribution, if there is an Harpy in the same Zone as you and that forces more than 4 spaces of the area to be filled, she goes to a random adjacent square (roll 1d8 to decide, clock-wise)
  • Spawn Zones: Zones that you can choose to spawn on.
  • Steep Grounds: Whenever entering this Zone, you must make a Fitness Check. If you fail with 50 or less, you hurt yourself by 10 flat damage and can't move out of the Zone you entered. If you fail with 100 or less, you can't move out of the Zone you entered, unless you spend a Bonus Action.
  • Death Fall: Whenever starting a Cycle or entering in this Zone for the first time without a Flight activated, you start falling. While falling, you can't do any action, and unless someone saves you before the Damage Phase, you receive 15d20 flat damage. If you survive, you may move to any Death Fall Zone as normal, but must use a Flight or a DC 150 Fitness to get to any other Zone type. Warning: NPCs die instantly in this fall.

As soon as @Luthien warned the party, Lune instinctively moves forward with a combat-ready stance, although weaponless.

"Diego, behind me." She instructed, but the harpy sisters already surrounded them. How many are they? Five? No, six.

Actually, seven. One more up there, probably the leader. She wouldn't worry about @Yugam, @Luthien, @Fiora Di Angelo, or @Ueno Mizuki, but a local girl was with them.

Suddenly one of the harpies swooped really close, trying to pull Diego away, to which the woman quickly called. "Watch out!" But her concentration was suddenly pulled towards a singing by one of the harpies. A seducer.

"Hehehe~ Come dance with me~ We are going to have so much fun, let's make all of my sisters envy us~<3"

"Sorry, I don't think you have the flexibility to keep up with me. I don't swing that way either."
She sighed, casually waving her hand like she was dismissing her away. "Also," Lune paused, her eyes sharp like a harsh critic, before pointing out that the charm doesn't work on her simply because the singing wasn't good enough for her. "Your voice lacks soul."

She spins slowly, as if putting on a performance. "Let me show you how it is to sing." The woman hums, and her high-pitched hymn soon echoed through the hills and valleys, rejuvenating and protecting those around her.

Mad.

A warning came her way, and yet the loud thud of an harpy that far surpassed her in height made her turn, only to be met with the equivalent of a bulldozer to ram straight against her, sending them both onto the ground, with the elf frantically covering her face from the incoming beating that got past her guard and punched a few new ideas into her brain, blood dripping from her now broken lip as she begun to pick up the pace of her new opponent, dodging one blow after another before wiggling backwards enough to push her boot against Knucklehead's face and shove the crazy muscle-bird away. When her wounds couldn't be at an all time worse, so came some form of soothing to the aching in her bruised, mauled flesh.

Lune's song, which far outclassed that of the Harpy at a distance, mended broken ribs and put back in place a dislocated shoulder like only a medicine practicioner could. Soon, quick fingers darted through her UI with the speed only a hacker on a keyboard would have, making her way towards the edge of the ascent in direction to the singer at a distance.

She tried her best to keep her composure as she took a leap from the cliff, pixels manifesting around her wrists and hands as the chained pickaxes she used to climb ame forth, slamming the hardened tip against the stone surface as rocks and dust begun to break down with her descent. The way was lit with protusions and dead ends, forcing her to steer away to the sides and jump off to the side, using her tools to cling onto the walls. One final push from her legs sent her propelled against one of the trees to break the last of her fall, with her aura expanding outwards. to shield her from the last of the fall, leaving a crater once she landed.

Fiora's golden eye flared in direction to the singing harpy, and the flame became noticeable over her pupil, and the one yellow dot over the empty socket where her missing eye should be. Line of sight alone allowed her to Share Emotion towards Cheerful, as an overwhelming hatred would swarm the seducer's senses the moment the elf begun rapidly approaching, stashing away the pickaxes and leaving only the chains wrapped tightly against her forearms.

It had been long since something hit her this hard this many times and pissed her off this much. Beacon activated itself and gave her complete awareness of where her target was, just like it did the same for the Harpy. It lured her, albeit not with pleasant promises of a dance.

One super jump to prople herself upwards, and Fiora cut the distance enough to send the chains after Cheerful's wings. Once gravity did it's job, both would begin to fall, with the greenette's roar mixing her voice with that of a howling beast, sparing not a second to throw herself over the Harpy, one hand squeezing down her throat to shut down that cursed song for good, while her right hook struck first against the beautiful bird's face. A dazing strike for starters.

Too familiar. This cold fury awakened by pain. these chains. The airborne target, and the duo she once considered friends... It made a vein pop out to think about it, but unlike that day, her target wasn't her lover. That removed any restraint left.

It made it easier to slam the bird's head against the floor with both hands, face first, before forcing her hands around the colorful feathers. Her attention returned back to the group for a second, Fiora wrapping an arm around Cheerful's neck for a chokehold while her right held down one of her arms, giving an ample opportunity for @Luthien to shoot at the greenette's meatshield.

Taunting (99)

Sing.

She whispered one cruel command that bounced itself with Mindsend on the harpy's head, drowning her thoughts and feelings with nothing but acrimony as her grasp tightened around her neck, awaiting for the ranger to do what she was tasked to.

I heard that.

Mizuki's sharp ears allowed her to catch Diego calling them all old killjoys, no matter whether the young explorer was trying to keep it hidden or not. Still, the fact that he accepted her presence meant that was one less person who had to be persuaded.

In contrast to some of the others, who were voicing their concerns. Well, it really was only @Lune who said so openly, but Fiora didn't look impressed either.

She understands the danger and knows the path better than any of us. We just have to keep her safe if we come across anything hostile.

Most likely Luna would very little trouble with the environment: the only thing that had kept her from going by herself were the dangerous creatures that were currently infesting the area.

The path onwards was familiar to Mizuki: she might not have travelled this exact road before, but it was similar to all the other pathways through the Ascent. Aside from the brief breaks they took so everyone could take care of their necessities she moved onwards without falter, her wolves showing similar fortitude.

It would've been better to stop earlier, but if there's caves nearby we might as well keep pushing until we reach them.

Unless you were in a hurry it was better to make camp too early than too late in the mountains. Night vision helped a lot, but when you were traversing narrow paths that overlooked steep cliffs a single misstep could be fatal. Both exhaustion and limited awareness could be the death of you.

Her attention was drawn away from the two children when she heard voices in the distance, the wildling frowning as she sharpened her ears.

...Harpies.

Walking in front of the group she quickly came to a halt, turning towards the skies where large winged figures were approaching them. Her eyes narrowed as she counted them internally. More than usual, and one of them was quite big as well. Not your standard hunting party.

As she prepared herself for the incoming assailants her body changed slightly, prioritising sturdiness and resilience over performance. However, physical resilience didn't prevent her from growling as one of the harpies decided to focus on her, a white-feathered specimen whose smirk made Mizuki want to knock her teeth out.

Shut up.

She would've gone on the attack, but something caught her attention and made her look away from the smug-looking harpy. Another harpy had managed to grab Diego and was already trying to carry him away, apparently eager to separate him from the rest of the party. As infuriating as the white harpy was, preventing the black one from taking Diego away was a higher priority.

One of her wolves had remained by her side, now standing between Mizuki and the sadistic harpy as the large canine bared his fangs at the feathered predator, warning her that if she got close or tried anything funny she'd get bitten for her troubles. Her unnerving aura kept the wolf from going on the attack, but his gaze remained fierce and his fangs were as sharp as ever.

With one of her packmates watching her back Mizuki didn't hesitate to slam her hand against the rocky surface of the cliff they'd been walking alongside of, feeling out the presence of sturdy flora that managed to survive in this harsh environment. No trees, unfortunately, but the grass that growed here had long roots to anchor itself.

Even as the meek harpy tried to take off the cliffside close to her would suddenly develop hairline cracks, which quickly widened until large roots burst out of the stone and spread out through the air, wooden tendrils interweaving as if searching for something. However, rather than finding their target they instead choked out the air above the path along the cliffside, too sturdy to easily break and too numerous to easily avoid. Anybody who tried to climb that cliffside or ascend into the sky would have to navigate their way through the impromptu outgrowth.

Mizuki growled to herself as she realised that her sheer disgust for the white harpy behind her had gotten in the way. She'd hoped to grapple the black harpy and prevent her from flying, but now the best she could say was that even as swift as she was the kidnapper would have to waste some time avoiding the wildling's roots. Her eyes glowed faintly as she focused her Primal Aura on the meek harpy, her hostile intent smashing into the birdbrain like a boulder.

Taunting (119)

Return him.

Mizuki's other packmate remained by Luna's side, having accepted the task of making sure the girl would be safe no matter what. That also meant that even as the other members of the party got attacked by harpy he guarded her while watching the fight, only intervening if any of the harpies decided to get too close to Luna.

As he stood guard he heard another voice in the distance, making him turn his head towards where the last harpy was still waiting for the right time to strike. He let out a brief bark to warn Luna that there was another harpy out there, his fur bristling as he waited to see which feathered foe would try to approach the girl first.

The harpies proved to be faster than her words, and even the ranger’s attempt to alert her party wasn’t enough to prevent the planned ambush of the creatures as they descended onto the party. Sharp claws were suddenly upon her, raking at any part of exposed flesh they could find while a voice whispered close to her—the same one that had expressed concern over their wolven companions.

"... I promise I will try to make this quick. Don't struggle..."
"Like hell I will!"

Electricity crackled around the ranger’s shoulders as the harpy tried to get a strong hold on her quarry, purple sparks arcing towards the creature’s feet and forcing her to let go before she could drag Lúthien high into the sky. "Luna, are you okay?" Her body moves to shield the smaller caenis, keeping the mountain to their back and their enemies towards her front, before a high-pitched hymn echoes in her ears—a healing song that mends the deeper gashes the harpy had managed to score on Lúthien’s forearms.

The flurry of wings and feathers make it hard for her to keep track of everything that’s happening, though the loud roars of @Fiora Di Angelo are impossible to miss—drawing her gaze over to the knightess just as she recklessly decides to rappel off the cliff without a second thought. "Fio wait—Diego!" Another harpy swoops towards @Lune and @Diego then, her claws managing to grasp onto the smaller twin-tailed caenis before she starts taking to the sky.

"Fuck…!"

She was torn between targets as the bow materialized into her hands, keen eyes able to see the harpy that Fiora had successfully restrained and submitted before the knightess held her up—she didn’t need words to know what the greenette asked of her as that singular golden eye stared right into the ranger. A glance is given towards @Yugam only to realize the hunter is quite busy with a harpy of his own, before her struggles come to a stop as one of Mizuki’s wolves moves closer towards the pair.

His tail bumps against the ranger and alerts Lúthien of his presence before the massive canine circles around Luna, guarding the youngest of their group just as the sound of branches and roots erupting from the soil reach her ears. { Don’t let her take him! } The mental connection is all she can afford as Lúthien entrusts Diego to the wildling, her hands reaching into the quiver to pull an arrow before nocking it into place.

The breeze softly picks up around them as Lúthien begins to draw energy, the moonstone on her choker glowing softly as the ranger focuses her gaze on the very tip of her arrow. It takes a moment before a crackling sound begins, tiny sparks of purple energy dancing around the head as they continue to multiply and grow in potency. She takes careful aim towards the colorful harpy before the arrow is finally released, the tip embedding itself onto the right shoulder of the creature before a jolt of electricity erupts outwards from the arrowhead.

It wasn't exactly a flurry of feathers to start, but the appearance of the harpies had Yugam reaching into his jacket for his revolver as he took a step closer to Luna. The figures gliding in the sky looked at the party like they were prey. Luna wasn't a part of the expedition. Or the trial to become a Violet Whistle. No innocent blood today. The man glanced down at the small caenis for a brief moment. "Stay close to-oof!"

Yugam felt the impact carry him backwards, his back scraping along against the dirt before sharp teeth bit into his shoulder and tore away a piece of his shoulder. A sharp cry of pain was followed by a wave of blood as the man felt his the warm fluid rush out of his body much faster than any normal wound would allow.

Hemomancy?

A hand reached up to the wound, as Yugam stood, before coming away, hand nearly black with blood. A low growl and snarl curled at Yugam's lips as his eyes darted up towards the scum who dared try to manipulate his life's essence.

"That's how you wanna play, huh?" the man sneered, drawing his sword from it's scabbard. "Alright then, let's play!"

His blood, carried high into the air by unseen forces suddenly froze in place before the sound of shattering glass announced the formation of hundreds of crimson darts, all pointed at the offender. They were no more than red glints of sunlight as they sped towards the harpy, peppering her with spines which brought her towards the ground, low enough that when Yugam rushed forward, he could strike her with ease with his blade. "That's my blood, little bird," he taunted as the back, blunt edge of his sword struck the harpy's sternum before sending her away like a bat striking a baseball.

Unfolding the Unknown
"Right behind you-" Diego replied to @Lune, quickly glancing at the fellow caenis. "Luna, take cover!"

He warned, just in time for the hulking harpy to suddenly appear, charging in at @Fiora Di Angelo.

"A-AH!"

Luna ducked, evading the harpy that sank her claws and muscles against the elf, before she managed to slip away with a big shove on the giant harpy's face, making her stumble backward, taking a moment to recover.

"HEY! DON'T RUN!" She cawed, clenching her claws and shaking them in frustration.

The voice echoed and mixed with the singing provided by the colorful harpy, that continued to brim in the battlefield-

"La la laaaaa~♪" The beautiful song escaped her lips, until @Lune abruptly interrupted her singing with criticism, making her scowl. "Hey~ You should sing with me then, if your voice is as pretty as you think~"

Before she could go for another sequence of singing, however, the elf suddenly tackled her down, sending her to the ground with a scream and trying to claw her way back before the grapple ceased any chance of her flying away.

"Big talk for a little man-" She provoked, fluttering her wings and smirking at @Yugam.

However, the smugness didn't last long, with blood and sword retaliating the attempt of reaping away the man's blood, making the harpy stagger and take a step back while hissing an insult.

"Tsk. So stubborn..."

The harpy shook her claw when getting zapped by @Luthien's protective electricity, forcing her to take a step back despite the good strike she had landed on the elf, flicking the razor sharp feathers she had on her while trying to find another opening.

"Make me shut up, darling~" The harpy licked her lips, locking her gaze on the primal look of @Ueno Mizuki's face, trying to urge her to attack.

However... It seemed like she had other plans...

"One after another, the Starcalled fought the harpies back, pushing them away and buying themselves the advantage they needed to perhaps win that battle-!"

Listener clung on her aunt, listening with wide open eyes. "And then they won? They managed to bring the big chickens down?!" The girl exclaimed.

Storyteller sighed, shaking her head. "Patience, my dear, a fight is never so easy... In fact..." She gave a dangerous thought to a certain wolf and her grave mistake, and a little girl that also seemed to falter.

"A-Auntie, no!" The girl squeezed her, with a pout.

"Hahaha... I'm just teasing you..." The Storyteller's gaze hardened. "... For now..."

"You always do this!" The girl huffed, crossing her arms and looking away.

"Oh? You will throw a tantrum..? I will stop telling the story then..."

"W-Wait, no no! I'm listening, please!" The Listener quickly stopped her pout.

HYLANDS ASCENT - TRANQUIL FALLS PATH
Sunset
Weather: Not so tranquil. Sun is slowly fading...

Coming with an air-piercing speed, the meek harpy had a tight grasp of Diego, trying to pull the struggling boy up to the air, while the boy tried to reach @Luthien's hand, but to no avail.

"Grrrr!"

"C-Catch, here!"

Luna made an attempt, jumping high to try to take the boy's hand, but Diego's hand slipped away, and soon he had no more footing, letting out a frustrated grunt.

"Come on, come on... Please... Why don't you listen to me?!" She tightened the grip.

"Please?! That's not how things work, get off me! I will keep my fingers and ears, thank you very much!" Diego growled, sneaking his hand into his pouch and pulling out a clicking device.

Meanwhile, @Ueno Mizuki's Primal Aura averted the harpy's attention, making her quiver for a moment.

"I... I... can't!" She swallowed, glancing at the other harpies.

Without wasting any more second, Diego glued the device on the harpy's feathers, heating it and making her squeak, shaking the device off in time to avoid the full hit of an explosion, but being enough to make her falter.

Vines soon grew out of the ground, trying to take a hold of the harpy, while Luna stepped in, worriedly looking at the caenis whistle being taken away, opening her hands and muttering in a language that escaped the travelers' knowledge.

"G-Give him back!" She howled.

The air around the harpy turned heavy, with a pressure and gravity seeming to squeeze her while Meek tried to slip past the vines while throwing a flurry of feathers at the Moon Wolf, sharply following her.

"Darling. Did you forget me?" The harpy suddenly stomped in front of @Ueno Mizuki, glaring her down. "I will make sure you won't forget this time."

Her wings spreaded widely, and an eerie power seemed to clench everyone's bodies and souls, filling their minds with dread and a skull-piercing pain that numbed their eardrums and made a fierce whistle echo in their minds.

The two youngsters screamed in pain, and while the aura distracted their allies, Meek managed to slip away, and the little Sun Claw...

"HI-HIYAAAAAH!" Her eyes widened, seeing the ground suddenly becoming so far, looking up to see a hooting figure.

"LUNA!"

"You two scream too much..." She said, leaning in, keeping a gentle hold on her. "I won't hurt you if you calm down."

"It isn't you that I want."

Her eyes narrowed, gazing at the ones that were actually worth it. However... A painful shriek caught Wise's attention... The sight of the Cheerful harpy being choked, struggling for her life while trying to desperately scratch @Fiora Di Angelo's arms, rocking violently to free herself.

"Let me go already! You crazy bitch!"

She cried angrily and fearful, sinking her claws even deeper into the elf's flesh, with her despair and anger growing even further when @Luthien's electrifying arrow pierced her, making her let out a deafening scream of pain, and shooting a glance of despair to the Deadpan harpy, sending a primal call of help, while her eyes turned teary.

Momentary confusion had occurred to Deadpan harpy, not only at the sudden act of the ranger elf of targetting someone else that wasn't her, but also the instinct that urger her to abruptly turn to face the Cheerful one.

Her emotionless face faltered for a moment, and a dire scowl crossed her eyes as she pushed @Luthien out of her way, flying straight at @Fiora Di Angelo, fiercely sinking her feathers into the elf in a reckless attack.

"Get off her."

She hissed, slashing the feathers on the elf's body and pushing the Cheerful harpy away from her grasp.

"Get out."

She growled at the Cheerful, with her feathers escaping her body to cover the wounded harpy.

"A-Ahh... Th-Thanks..."

She gave a breathless nod and a grateful glance at the other before flying as far as she could.

"It is you and me now." She huffed, making her sharp feathers grow and putting herself in a duelist stance.

Meanwhile...

"WANT HELP, CUPCAKE?" She roared, getting on four.

"Piss off." She frowned at the large harpy. "This guy is mine... He is... Interesting and spicy."

She licked her lips, looking at @Yugam, showing a devious grin before charging at him, swinging with her claws, tackling him down and scratching chest, face, and everything she could before trying to sink her claws deep into his body, cawing.

"Give me a bit of your cursed blood, sinner."

The harpy cackled, trying to yank him out of the ground.

Seeing it, the large harpy slipped a whistle, jolting to look at the one target she had available.

"Well well well..."

"COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO, MOTHERCLUCKER!"

She thundered, throwing herself against @Lune in a trampling rage, rolling down the ground with her and crashing her large claws and arms against her, taking a firm grasp of her head and slamming it against her knee before tossing her aside.

"You have some healing tricks... I THINK YOU WILL NEED TO SAVE THEM TO YOURSELF!"

The harpy roared, leaping to throw all of her body weight on the top of her opponent.

Pushing Knucklehead to E9

Even as the colorful bird sank claws and thrashed about, Fiora refused to give up her grasp, and only tightened further the chokehold. It would only be a matter of time until her struggle would crumble, and all the greenette had to do was bite through the pain like usual. At least her taunting worked perfectly, and the harpy couldn't get a single note out of her mouth anymore. Of course a bird brain would fall for such a trick.

What she didn't see coming was another one of them jumping to her aid, cutting through her grasp and forcing her to backpedal into a defensive stance once her wounds begun to catch up against her tolerance. The glare from her one eye dropped on Cheerful, locked on until that beast got far away from her to try and get a hold of her wings. Not like it mattered. Not when she got cornered by a far more aggressive one.

Her gaze went past the harpy as she spoke, reaching out to the Ranger, sharing with the troubled elf information on their target as it darted away.

With no time to waste, Fiora pushed her hand forth as her Aura wrapped around Deadpan, forcing her body to freeze for a few seconds, at best. Plenty of time to pull out her pickaxes and run past the Harpy, gaining an advantage on her race towards the Ascent. The moment that hold was lifted, power channeled itself on her legs, kneeling down a little before super jumping upwards, high enough to thrust the magical ice-axes through the rocks, pushing her feet against the edge before leaping once again to cover more vertical distance this way, propelling herself back up.

Panting, Fiora rolled over the ledge and landed at the top once again, sending the pickaxes back to her inventory before making her way over a pummeled Lune, who worked as the perfect distraction to catch the large harpy off-guard. With the chains still at hand, Fiora wrapped them on a tight lock over her wings, pinning them together before reacting to whatever offense the harpy would throw via a side-step, before sending one straight gut punch to push the air out of her lungs, with force to match her own and give Knucklehead a taste of her own medicine, left hand holding onto her shoulder to pull her in for a headbutt straight to the nose. Yet aside of giving her a concussion, she had to make sure the large woman wouldn't bother @Lune anymore...

Taunting (136)

Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker.

And no sooner than that, her boot met the harpy's chest once again, this time with more than enough strength to push giants and send this one in particular flying all the way down to end like a pretty stain on the ground.

Panting, Fiora turned to face the Geologist once again, offering her hand to help her stand back up.

That should keep her busy. Some help with these would be appreciated, though. These birds have a thing for elf meat apparently.

She begun to pull out Deadpan's feathers from her body, as blood kept leaking from these lacerations caused by her reckless assault. Instinctively, her eye flickered in direction to @Yugam, instinct spoke of the dangers the man ran by facing the one Harpy that didn't seem to shut up at all, before a hateful barrier begun to wrap around the hunter in hopes of slowing down Vicious enough to keep her from forcing open new injuries to which bleed himself out of.

Despite everything going on around him, Yugam's vision had narrowed delightfully to his fight with the annoying bird flitting above his head. He'd never fought another hemomancer before, but boy was it fun. The others would have to pardon him for a moment as he indulged himself for just a little longer.

A slight grin sat on the man's face as he eyed the harpy, just as it darted down to try and carry him away again. Fast, agile, she dove at him, her sharp claws dug into his arm and her teeth sank into his shoulder again. Her wings flapped harder, lifting dust from the ground as she began to lift the man into the air.

"Give me a bit of your cursed blood, sinner."

But Yugam didn't budge. His weight had shifted, sinking into the ground before he pulled back on his arm, hard. The harpy jolted backwards, before her entire body hit the ground like a rag doll before Yugam was on top of her, one arm pressed her throat, pinning her to the ground, the other lifting his sword high into the air, held in a reverse grip with the point aimed downward.

"Then drink up, bitch!"

With a near manic gleam in his eye, Yugam thrust the sword through his arm, and the harpy's shoulder. The torrent of blood that burst forth was like a geyser, before crashing to ground in a tidal wave of blood that swept over the battlefield.

"I won't hurt you if you calm down. ... It isn't you that I want."

She thumbed through the options inside her quiver before finally settling on two. Their fletching rested between her index, middle and ring fingers as the elf nocked them onto her bow, a deep breath slowly filling her lungs before she tried clearing her mind out through the exhale.

"Diego! Luna! We’ll come for you soon," Her gaze shifted towards the explorer and the young pup currently up in the air, focusing on the bright blues of her fellow whistle. "Until then keep each other safe!"

There was nothing else she or the others could do for the pair right now, not while four of the harpy sisters were still heavily focused on them. Each breath continued to strengthen the coppery taste that continued to build at the back of her throat, a sensation she’d become accustomed to from fighting at his side… though it did little to lessen her worries over him.

"Please... Don't make things harder than they are already!"

"... Shhh, don't be afraid..."

The vibrant feathers of Cheerful worked to her disadvantage, the harpy sticking out against the flora and her surroundings like a sore thumb. Crimson eyes followed her target as she attempted to place distance between herself and the knightess, holding the pair of arrows steady against her bowstring and her boots firm on the ground for balance. The wind around her shifted as it succumbed to her guidance, swirling around her feet as the sounds of crackling and popping began to magnify.

Two purple streaks flashed through the air before landing on her target, the charged up arrows embedding themselves onto Cheerful’s winged limbs before the stored electricity was discharged shortly after the impact. A third arrow had already found its way to her fingers, nocked and pulled back with the same calm precision as her first strike, and though her gaze never left the vibrant harpy the words Lúthien spoke were meant for the two sisters hovering in the air not too far from the ranger.

Taunting (116)

"Give them back and leave us," It wasn’t hard to guess which of the two harpies her words were directed to, she’d heard enough so far to pinpoint who was the leader of the clamor. A third purple streak flew through the air then, finding its mark on the colorful sister’s back, before a burst of lighting successfully downed the harpy into the nearby trees and foliage.

"Or my next shot won’t be as merciful."

As Lune was busy healing the party to sustain them through the relentless harpy attack, the annoying big one suddenly appeared again, delivering a surprise attack, grabbing the woman's head before sending a knee with a force of a thousand pounds. "COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO, MOTHERCLUCKER!"

Tumbling backward, the steel reaver tried to recover from the blow, clutching a cracked, metallic layer on her face. If she didn't harden her head fast enough, that knee attack could've instantly crushed her skull. Not giving Lune time to catch a breather, Knucklehead proceeded to rush her once more and trampled her a few times with her bodyweight, forcing Lune to rapidly regenerate to avoid getting smushed to bits.

Luckily, the big harpy was soon sent flying by a random spartan kick. When Fiora pulls Lune off the ground, she did it easily. Somehow, the red-haired woman also felt lighter than she seemed to weigh, too.

"That should keep her busy. Some help with these would be appreciated, though. These birds have a thing for elf meat apparently."

Sighing, Lune made random magical motions with her finger and hands, causing the wounds on Fiora's body to slowly close, using the elf's own skin to sew back the lacerations and cuts together. Yes, it's as painful as it sounds.

After administering simple, first aid to at least stop the major injury Fiora and the others sustained, Lune stretched.

"Alright, that should help, for now. I have to go after the two first."

On the sides of her arms, a metallic substance appeared and slowly formed aerodynamic-looking sharp surfaces, resembling the wings on a wingsuit, or rather, a plane, judging by its sheen finish. "I'll be back." She announced, before jumping with a sonic boom caused by the sudden reverse gravity boost, propelling her into the air and giving her the speed to close towards Meek and Wise.

"Give back the two, now." She threatened them.

Mizuki's response to Meek's refusal was a fierce glare. She had no reason to care for the harpy's issues with her sisters: if she didn't do as she was told the wildling was going to hunt her down and rip her apart at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately the other harpies didn't seem inclined to give them the opportunity. As the smug-looking hag moved in front of her Mizuki was about to snarl at her to get out of the way before a piercing pain made her head ring, the caenis taking a step backwards as she held her head with one hand.

Ironically it was Meek's interference that allowed Mizuki to snap out of it. The feathers that sliced her hide gave her something else to focus on, and with a quick shake of her head Mizuki shook off the unpleasant sensation emanating from Sadistic to instead look at how the rest of the fight was going.

@Fiora Di Angelo had returned to the cliffside and actually managed to throw the biggest harpy down into the forest below, which meant that only two harpies were currently close to them. This might've been a good time for Mizuki to try and get Diego and Luna back... but her ears twitched as she caught the owl-like harpy whispering that she wasn't actually after Luna.

She didn't like it, but for the moment she'd have to focus on the bigger threat and hope that the two younglings would be all right.

The wave of blood that erupted as Yugam let himself go helped Mizuki make up her mind on what she would do next. Sending a command to her packmates with her Primal Aura she reached out with both hands as the sanguine substance reached her, seizing control of it and gathering it around her arms. Liquid became solid as blood fed root, thorned crimson vines spiralling around the wildling's arms until she slammed her hands against the ground, sending her botanic weapons into the ground.

Small cracks appeared in the rocky surface of the cliffside before the same thorned bloodvines erupted from right below Vicious, piercing skin and digging into flesh, seeking out her veins to engorge themselves on her life essence. Feasting upon their prey the vines would keep growing until they'd formed a bramble batch around Yugam and Fiora, sturdy enough that even if that muscular harpy were to climb back up she'd first have to smash her way through the wooden barrier to reach the two Travelers.

Her wolves, familiar with Mizuki's magic, nimbly moved between the vines to assist in the assault upon Vicious, fangs digging into the harpy's wings even as they positioned themselves to intercept if anyone were to try and attack either Yugam or Fiora. Their fur had been drenched in Yugam's blood, and with some quick motions Mizuki hardened that blood until her packmates were effectively covered in armour, protecting them even as they protected the swordsman and the hunter.

Unfolding the Unknown

The Strong Makes the Rules
Interjection

Being kicked off the cliff, Knucklehead flapped her wings desperately, but the tight embrace of the chains didn't allow them to have such freedom-

"WAAAAAAAAAAAH-!"

She struggled, and Deadpan looked up, hissing an insult before taking flight to embrace her falling sister, with the impact throwing both of them crashing to the ground, though cushioning the fall.

"WOAH-! THANKS SHARPY, YOU ARE AWESOME!"

The giant harpy chirped to the smaller one, that pushed her face aside with her claw and struggled out from under the large frame of her sister.

"Yeah... Get off me now, you are damn heavy."

"RUDE!"

Before they could argue further, an earpiercing scream that followed a powerful, electrifying noise forced the harpies to jolt and look at the Cheerful harpy, that faltered on her flight.

"Chirpy... You..."

Her eyes grew, looking at the colorful bird falling and trailing her eyes to focus on the ranger. Her feathers perked up, and a collective anger could be felt by the elves, surrounding the harpies for a moment, until-

"Stop."

The Wise harpy's gaze locked on Deadpan's, that momentarily acted rebellious, only for Wise to narrow them and strike an even fiercer glare, not only to her, but also to the Sadistic and the Vicious, that seemed to be enjoying the fight a bit too much, especially noticing how bloodied the latter and @Yugam were.

Deadpan halted her movements, along with the other two begrudgingly following it, and Wise turned to face @Lune and @Luthien.

"I don't remember you giving them back when it was your turn. 'The strong makes the rules', right?"

Her hold remained on Luna, keeping her embraced against her plumage at a breathtaking height, enough to make the girl swallow and grasp on the harpy's legs.

"But I also don't remember any of you attacking without killing intent... So maybe you are more reasonable than your alpha."

"There is no alpha, you glorified owl!"

Diego hissed, and the harpy frowned, tightening on Luna for a moment, with a squeak escaping from the lips of the little girl, making the harpy stop, but also quietening the boy from speaking further.

"... I want to talk to him. You've never needed to meddle with our territory. If you don't stop eating our food and attacking, you will become our prey."

Her eyes lowered on @Ueno Mizuki.

"W-We don't- Mm-?!"

Luna was silenced with the plummage covering her mouth.

"Let the adults talk, child."

She warned.

"... I will land with the child..."

"Thank you," Lune exhaled while nodding, retracting the claws and the spikes as the metallic layer on her skin slowly creped back into the core of her chest.

Not wasting more of her energy, she slowly floated down and landed softly, still looking at Wise, Meek, Diego, and Luna, but more particularly at the Sun Claw Caenis that she really felt bad bringing with them.

The tension was still high, so the woman avoided doing drastic movements and instead just slowly, but surely made her way toward the kids, step by step while her hands extended in front of her body.

"Luna, are you hurt somewhere?" She asked, making sure before letting a deep melodic hum, numbing the pain of her comrades around her with the power of Harmonic Magic.

Motioning the others to de-escalate, as the harpies still have both Luna and Diego in their custody, she turned to Wise. "Do you know of this Keeper guy?" She inquired, letting the leader know of her apparent mistake of mixing a local girl with an invading hunter. "That girl, who lives just down there, brings fruit to him once in a while, walking this path each time."

If the information she collected inside her head was right, the Moon Fang pack that roamed around this place was surely connected to this thing.

Yugam was historically very, very bad with words. So he was quite content to allow the others to do the speaking and negotiating, instead of him potentially fucking everything up. So, while the other chattered about this and that, and about whoever 'he' was, Yugam slid his blade out from the pinned down harpy's shoulder, and his own arm, shifting to keep a hand on her throat, and in his control in case she decided to get feisty again while the other debated.

"... I will land with the child..."

And finally, a conclusion.

Since, apparently, they weren't all going to go back to trying to kill each other, Yugam released the harpy, from his grip. "Hold on, this might hurt a bit," the man said before standing, a violet aura wrapping around his hand, wisps of colored smoke trailing behind it as he waved his hand over the wound in the harpy's shoulder. Her flesh knit itself back together, leaving behind a slight scar as Yugam rose to his feet and offered a hand up to the harpy (not really thinking about the fact she has wings for arms and that this probably would not work the way he figured it would).

Too many people with different opinions. If it wasn't for the fact that they had to maintain the illusion of cohesiveness to ensure the harpies wouldn't start thinking of ways to exploit their disagreements Mizuki have have shown her frustrations externally. As it was she just kept her eyes on the owl harpy, blue and gold focused she waited for the leader of the avians to decide whether she was willing to surrender her hostages if it meant putting an end to the fighting.

@Luthien clearly wanted to resolve this encounter with zero casualties, even going so far as to offer to heal the colourful harpy if it would help convince the other harpies that they didn't need to fight any longer.

@Lune seemed to primarily be invested in the well-being of the two youngest members of this expedition, to the point that she was willing to resume the battle immediately if the harpies didn't give in.

@Fiora Di Angelo appeared to find killing all the harpies the only reasonable course of action, as the avians had been the aggressors and they had no reason to leave them alive.

@Yugam... well, he seemed to have little interest in either killing or negotiating with the harpies: he'd do whatever it took to keep everyone alive, and beyond that he'd let the rest decide how to proceed.

They all held valid positions, although in the end Mizuki could sympathise the most with her fellow hemomancer. She had hunted and eaten sophonts before, so she couldn't really get mad at the harpies for hunting them after their usual prey had been stolen from them by the Moon Fangs.

When Wise finally decided to lower Luna back to the ground the wildling sent out a simple message to all her allies using her Primal Aura: caution. If these harpies were intelligent enough to negotiate, that meant they were intelligent enough to lie and deceive.

She didn't think that the owl harpy was lying, but she'd rather not have her companions let their guard down only to be backstabbed by cunning birds.

Him as well.

Her finger pointed towards Diego, held aloft by Meek. Wise may be descending, but she wasn't going to ignore the fact that the submissive bird wasn't quite as quick to relieve herself of her burden.

We've got no reason to linger in your hunting grounds. That said...

As soon as Diego and Luna reached the ground each would be joined by one of Mizuki's packmates, the large wolves guarding the younglings even if they refrained from openly snarling at the harpies. Mizuki didn't look away from the harpies even as she extended her hand towards where her roots had formed a barrier in an attempt to prevent Meek from escaping with Diego in the first place. The attempt had been futile in the end, and the wildling gritted her fangs as she forced the roots to wither away until the path was clear once more.

As I said, the new pack is a problem for us as well. They're aggressive and more likely to attack us than to talk to us.

With the roots gone Mizuki shifted her gaze to every harpy, looking at each of them one by one as her Primal Aura emanated from her without any specific target, a wordless sensation. Sharp fangs and old blood, twin moons and dark nights.

After these two have collected their moonstones and this one has met up with the person she wanted to meet I'm driving this other pack out, by force if needed. I'm not asking for your help, but you should stay out of my way since you want them gone as well.

As interested as Mizuki was in the Moon Fangs it didn't take a genius to realise that a bunch of them leaving Moonfall to kick up a stir in other parts of the Hylands was something that had to be discouraged, at least for as long as the Moon Fangs refused to share. She doubted that the other members of this expedition would be very interested, and even if the harpies were willing to stop fighting for the moment there wasn't enough trust for them to actually work together.

@Lune‘s aggressive approach had been an immediate source of concern for the elf, before a held breath softly escaped her lips as the owl finally assented and began to descend with the Sun Clan pup. The tension on her shoulders relaxed slightly as the ranger lowered her bow to the side, though her grip remained on her weapon as the cautious aura from @Mizuki slipped into her mind. It was a curious feeling, familiar to her elven abilities but unique in its approach, and a side glance was given to the wildling before Lúthien nodded her head just slightly.

For now she’d choose to trust that things could be resolved in a civil manner, but the blonde was aware it could take just a second before things suddenly went to hell in a handbasket.

The redhead reached for Luna first, closely followed by Mizuki’s packmate, as the woman checked over the girl’s physical condition. Her own gaze shifted towards Diego and Meek, taking note of the small wounds on the explorer, before a humming melody began to fill the space. Her own voice began to harmonize with it, before the breeze around them shifted to carry their voices further out than normally possible.

Her gaze shifted then towards the fallen harpy, the strain on the elf evident as the moon gem on her choker began to glow. It helped stabilize the flow of her magic, though not enough to avoid her tune—and healing—suffering in return. Wounds on their bodies slowly began to mend and, before the wordless song was over, her attention turned towards a particular greenette and her injuries—mending what little she could before her voice drifted off into the wind.
