Corsair pulled herself up straight. "Not a scratch on me," she said, accepting the dusting. His hands were like over mitts.

"Did you change your Pain Limiter on yet?" she asked, looking back down the tunnel. It looked like there'd been a landslide. The sheer amount of rubble was staggering, and her massive companion @Brutus Dahlgren had sheltered her from every single rock. "Realistic is far from optimal at this stage. We don't need to feel pain."

She continued down the tunnel, stepping over the tiny streams, and avoiding the patches of grass that grew between the stones. When she found glowing stones she stopped, pressing her hand against them as if trying to divine some ancient magitech secrets. When the path forked she always picked the left, and soon the pair happened upon a device.

It was a screen, bright with internal light and bearing a few words of simple text. 'Be sure to watch your meters! Refill your Hunger and Thirst whenever you have a chance.'

She tapped the screen, and it faded to black, only to be replaced by another few lines. 'Energy low? Don't forget to sleep.'

"They're tips," she said, "telling us how to play." She tapped the screen again. 'Having trouble hitting? Try enabling Auto Assist!'

Dungeon Roll: Vanguard

Mio kept going deeper, though still wounded by the cloud, she hoped some of her markings were able to help a few people. As much as she liked money and had a selfish streak she wasn't a monster. In situations where you needed to look out for your fellows, it was a given that you should at least put in a small amount of effort.

She continued around corners, down halls looking for anyone who might be able to lend a hand or help, doing things alone was a part of what made the mission so difficult she thought, but as she continued she would find more danger. A goblin, a more reasonable foe for Mio at her level at least. The ink on her hands formed claws once more as she began her approach, her tail raised high, her posture low, the reason largely so she could use her bizarre fighting style, claws and tail, while tail might be new to her, clawing off someone's face wasn't unfamiliar.

Unfortunately she was caught in the middle making her rear back away from a strike before trading blows. A slash of claws, brandishing and parrying what she could. She sweat and grunted when struck, but in the end, emerged victorious. Breathing heavily, she managed to finish off the battle by swinging her tail, using it like a scythe to paint the goblin's neck. Her hidden weapons instead clawing out the throat before the creature fell. The corpse was startling, but in the end she couldn't help give it a few taps with her foot only to finally turn her attention away when it was clear it wasn't a trick.

"Good... A nice X mark here, all clear. You can all thank Mio~" She spoke as the tail slashed twice painting a bright X with a circle around it before continuing on hoping to find something or someone else to help her along.

As Darko continued to move forward on the path he had taken, he wondered as to how many terminals were in this dungeon. He had seen two of them within the same day, and there should be some more of them, either that or he was just lucky that he had seen more terminals than monsters in this dungeon. Maybe this is one of the reasons why it was called Beginner Dungeon: in most open-world RPGs, the game will thrust the player into an unmarked location, but in there there were tips that were supplied by tutorial wizards as the player then battled monsters that were weaker than the ones currently in the field. Maybe this was the same case here, and if it really was, then Darko should really reconsider his training regimen.

The alleyway was terminated with a dead end, but Darko then saw yet another terminal at the end. When he tapped on the monitor, he then saw that it was a tutorial for the auto-attack mechanism for the game. But as Darko was a ranged attacker, it was useless for him. However, he finished the tutorial to the end, not because he had interest in melee combat, but instead he sougt to find ways to evade them as they would come. He then retraced his steps to the former room, and then headed for the right pathway.

After the last encounter, Moonsong decided to take the dungeon slowly. Few minutes in and she stumbled upon other travellers that are either resting or examining. Mingling in with the group for a while, it seems that @Ru Ning noticed her rather battered appearance and suggested the path that he has cleared before. "Oh, this way's safe? Thank you."

She spent a few minutes sharing pointers and maps. Feeling rested, the girl continued her way deeper into the dungeon while mapping everything inside her head. There are traces of disarmed and marked traps along the way, making the progression much safer and easier. A sudden howling sound could be heard faintly, but it turns out to be from the other corridor she didn't take. "Wow, we made quite of a progress already."

Caligo winces as he sees @Tristaria dip into the foul-smelling ooze. Though she seems surprisingly unfazed by the contact, his ears pick up a faint sizzling as the material burns the skin on contact. Supposedly I have healing spells... I really wish I knew how to use them, Cal thinks to himself.

He looks apprehensively at the muck ahead. He has no idea how he's going to cross it, but he can't leave behind his new companion this soon. As he braces himself for a running leap, he feels a gust of wind as a blue-haired (and feathered) beastkin @Bluebird soars over and snatches up the orb at the center of the room. He breaths a sigh of relief as the barrier dissolves, and begins to simply walk around to reunite with his traveling companion.

As he steps past the ooze, eyeing it suspiciously, he starts to see a slight movement inside. As he watches, it becomes more and more agitated, before suddenly a blob of the stuff leaps out towards him! With a startled shout, he summons the power he used before against the wolves, as a bolt of pure white energy bursts from his hand and pierces the slime.

As the creature bursts, some pieces of muck fly out. Caligo hisses as some of the stuff lands burning on his skin, but he shakes it off and continues on to join his robotic companion on the other side of the room.

As an aspiring explorer, Kamala didn't think she should've missed this so-called "Beginners Cave" in Eastern Brisshal. It was near where she first appeared in the game anyway. Or more appropriately, it was in the same region. What kind of explorer would she be if she didn't try looking into it? Besides, she was a beginner and it just felt like the kind of thing she needed to do. This is like one of those tutorials, right?

[Welcome to Travelers Gate]

"Oh, thanks!"
Kamala responded to the words within her UI as if it was an actual person that just greeted her. It took her some time, trying to figure out where the Blue Rapids was, and what the Power Stones were supposed to be, but she eventually found her way. Just like a true explorer! She congratulated herself by placing both hands on her hips and taking a long deep breath. The warm smile on her face as she surveyed the gray stone walls and decaying rock floors before her was proof that she was ready to go exploring! As ready as I'll ever be!

She tried her best to be ready, but after a few steps inside, after following a path that led to a dark corner, she was immediately attacked by some sort of bat! Kamala screamed in surprise and tried to run away, but the bat was relentless. Even with both hands on her head, the monster wouldn't just let her go, let her be. Finding herself face-to-face with another corner wall, a dead-end, Kamala gulped as she turned around to wince at the bat that would have been gloating if it were her. "H-hey there, friend! I didn't mean to disturb you. Peace?"

The Killer Bat just stared at her before attacking, chomping down on her exposed arm and sucking some blood! "Aaahhh! I don't consent! I don't consent!" Kamala screamed repeatedly as if those words meant anything to a monster. They did, however, mean something to the Sprouts, the sapling sprites that she had made a contract with at the start of her game. As she tried to get the bat off of her arm, a greenish glow appeared from out of nowhere, from which Greenleaf the Bold poofed into existence, made the same sound as a mini-puft, threw himself at the bat with his pointy leaf sword, and then poofed back into nature's magical energy as soon as he made contact. The bat let out a low-pitch scream before it met its demise.

Kamala could only heave a sigh of relief when all was said and done. "This isn't going to be as easy as I thought, is it? Oh, why did I even do this? I'm no good with fighting and stuff!"

Mighty Rumblehide

Role: Vanguard

Rumble blinked at the ice witch. "Actually? Freezing my wounds shut would be pretty cool--" And as punishment for her pun or not; the elf was hurtled back ten seconds in time and unceremoniously dumped on the floor. No bat in sight; no gushing holes in her neck.

The veteran had already taken off, caring not for the thanks of a simple newbie. But thankful she was; because as she turned around to check down another corridor, Mighty Rumblehide was met with the blorping and burbling of the babiest of baby dungeon monsters: The Green Slime.

It could've been a plushie. Shame that the game was outlawed; the adorable little thing would have made for a wonderful mascot for the gears of marketing to grind into the consciousness of the masses.

Knowing the score, Rumble knew that it wasn't going to simply just sit there, burp away in curious confusion, and let her by. And before she could take a step, it leaped at her.

What happened next... There might not be any good adjectives for! Destroyed? Demolished? Too gooey to begin with. Too weak of a fate. Banished ain't it. Discombobulated? Maybe.

Needless to say, what very little remained of it made up for the mishap with the giant bat.

THE GUY was in the throes of a dangerous battle! He was ready and engaged in mortal combat with the dangerous beast known as "green slime", a commonly dangerous enemy in tabletop games. Yes, THE GUY was sure that this was a doozie of a fight. All was going well, up until his foot stepped on a particular sinking stone and the foolowing words popped up on the screen:

[YOU HAVE ACTIVATED A SHORTCUT! A SHORTCUT IS-]

The rest of his notification was cut off by the direct impact of the shortcut-ees onto his person. A loud WHAM! sounded throughout the hallways as @Brutus Dahlgren and @Corsair slammed straight into his person, falling from an open wall-panel containing a slide that had all but abducted the other two players. They were thankfully fall-broken by the mass of the Green Slime, which exploded immediately on impact.

THE GUY was not so lucky. He was thrown straight onto the ground, and the "I-It's you?!" he cried out as he was shakily getting onto his feet had a drunken slur to it. THE GUY didn't appear to be in his right wits at the moment, and the display of [STUNNED] above his character only contributed to this fact.

At least the slime was defeated.

"Pain lets me know when I make mistakes." Brutus replied brushing some rubbed from his shoulders. "I use it to keep me alert, the threat of pain entices me to make less mistakes, and it is a harsh teacher." He would follow after her, reading over the various tooltips they'd found. The reminder to check his bars had him fumbling through his pockets for an apple and munched it down, swigging some water with it before offering the water skin to Corsair.

"Make sure you keep up with your own bars, just because you're a robot doesn't mean you're immune to getting thirsty." He paused, a rumble in a nearby wall caught his eye and once again his bodyguard instincts found him snatching her off her feet as the wall swung wide.

It was a TRAP

He braced for impact, heart racing, and then realized the wall had just opened. Setting Corsair down, he chuckled nervously a bit before poking his head through. Guy had made an appearance, he remembered this man from that one thing that had totally happened. "Yo, Guy!" He raised a hand to wave.

"HAIYA"

A small goblin leaped out from the shadows, only to be met with the back end of Brutus' canon, smashing it into the wall to a bloody pulp. He glared at it before going about wiping his canon down. "Now it's turning into a party"

Travelers Path

You have traveled farther than any of the travelers that had given those reports of tutorials and Goblin Weaklings. Seeing fewer and fewer signs of previous players has created a slightly more unsettling atmosphere but you continue onwards, the thrill of being the first may be your motivation or perhaps you're a power player and just can't get enough grinding. You see a large, thick double door with a metallic sheen unlike the rest of the dungeon up to this point, one torn off its hinges and laying in several long strips, curled and dented. The room had what remained of one last hint device with a shattered screen, laying in the corner on its side,

1qlYMY1.jpg

"Prrrr... Welcome ."

Before you smiling broadly was the mascot of Terrasphere, Trinity! Anyone who'd ever seen one of the ads for the game, or played its previous iteration would recognize her on the spot. No other NPC had the looks, personality, and living space, that made them stick out like this much of a sore thumb in this world.

She purred again and her ear twitched as she blinked a few times watching more Travelers approach. her head bent to the side at an awkward angle and she seemed to go limp for a moment before nodding profusely.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome! Thank you for coming and playing! It's fun! Want to quest? Enjoy!"

She then turned around slowly and seemed to shamble through the ripped open part of the door. A long thin tail swinging behind her.

[Dungeon Progress 3015 / 8000]
Area: Forbidden Labyrinth [3000-8000]
Scouting (DC 20)
Treasure (DC 40)

Forgotten Labyrinth

The unexplored reaches of the Travelers Gate. The walls are much tighter and the markings that line them pulsate with unknown magic. Here and there one may see objects such as steel or wooden wheels, pipelines running the walls bookshelves with tomes that have no words, among other pieced-together objects. As if it was an area meant to be but never quite fully completed. There is a constant feeling that you do not belong here.

Not one Hint Device exists here, although similar devices now exist to open or close various doors. Perhaps the tutorial has come to an end. Traveler... do you wish to proceed?

Dungeon Rules:
  • This dungeon has a 1 character per player limit. It is closed during World Boss and any Story Events that are sitewide.
  • Decrease your HP by 10 each post you make in the thread. You may only post 5 times per cycle. This can be divided in any way you wish (but still following the no double-posting rule. Doing so means that your character is rushing ahead and of course as consequence, it will be harder to react to situations involving other characters within the cycle.
  • It's good to keep your post brief. You may tag others in the dungeon for rp opportunity or to use a Role Ability on them.
  • Dungeon Progress (DP) starts at 0 and you add to the number by rolling the basic attack action, no special or bonus actions are allowed.
  • Every cycle update (arguably a week), this dungeon's DP will decrease by 1000. Work together to beat the decay.
  • If you are ejected for any reason (including voluntary exit), you cannot return for 1 month.

How To Play:
  • Choose which character and which Dungeon Role before you jump into this dungeon thread.
  • Order of Play: Roll 1d20 for Dungeon Event > Decide whether or not to use your Role Ability (if available) > Perform an Attack Roll for DP Contribution > RP Post
Dungeon Roles:
When you make your first post you must choose one of several roles. These roles cannot be changed unless you exit the dungeon and restart after 1 month.
  • Scout: Once per cycle you may make an extra Expertise Check (Awareness) against the scouting DC (under DP top of page). It costs 10 HP to prepare others for the path ahead. Success negates 1 negative event or battle roll for 2 tagged allies this cycle. Failure costs you an additional 10 HP.
  • Vanguard: Your DP contribution is +10 each time you post.
  • Supporter (Supportive Mastery Required): Once per cycle, you spend 30 HP to restore others' HP equal to your highest support mastery +5 per MR (D+5, C+10, B+15, A+20, S+25). This can be divided between 2 different tagged allies.
  • Treasure Hunter: Once per cycle you may make an extra Expertise Check (Knack) for 10 HP against the Treasure DC (under DP top of page) to search for loot. Success increases the effects of 2 tagged ally's positive event rolls this cycle (increase effects by 25. Failure costs you an additional 10 HP.
  • Protector (Defensive Mastery Required): Once per cycle for 30 HP, you may replace 1 tagged ally that triggered a battle event and fight for them by taunting their enemy.

Dungeon Events
These are events that take place in your rp post. Roll a 1d20 for the Area (changes based on DP thresholds) you are currently exploring. The rolled event immediately affects your post. Follow the specific instructions for each event.

So this is one ah them dungeon things eh? Well, I guess I bettah keep my head on a swivel so I don't fall intah any trahps ah nuthin'

Nyancy knocked on the walls and tapped the floor to test to footing and stability of the structure. After testing things, she turned back to @Laylabelle

Ey, ya hea that? Watch ya step. I'm fast but if we staht steppin' on all kindsah traps ah whateva weah gonna be in trouble. I'll go ahead and take the lead since I gotta bit moah muscle on me. Just make suah that nothin' comes up from behind us. I figyah we take turns fightin' to conserve ah strength unless of course somthin' big and means shows up. Then it's kill ah kill, and I ain't plannin on dying in hea. Otha than that, let's have some fun, am I right? It's ouah first big adventure!

With a smile and a thumbs up, Nyancy took the lead heading into the newly opened area.

Not gonna lie, don't feel right in hea. Feels like weah bein' watch ah something. Couse it wouldn't be much of a dungeon if it was sunshines and rainbows ah whateva.

Stepping carefully, Nyancy heard a snarl, then the glint of a blade dodging right quickly, the goblin barely missed Nyancy.

Careful Lay! We got ahselves a live one! Goin in!

Quickly getting into a four-point position, Nyancy went on the attack.

Try this on fah size ya twerp. No one tries cut up Nyancy and get's away with it! Now face the might of my martial aht! Beast ah Calamity Style!

Charging forward in a flash, the goblin had little time to react before Nyancy's fist connected with the Goblin's sternum and sent him flying with enough force to bury the unlucky creature in the wall.

Alright, tha Goblin's outta commission. Weak guy could only take ah single hit of Beast ah Calamity befah he was down an out.

Head on a swivel, Laylabelle let @Nyancy take the forward position as she watched their back. She wasn't sure that she could have done this alone, but with her capable partner she was feeling... not quite confident, per say, but that this was doable.

"All clear here. Let me know when you need to switch, I'll continue to watch our backs. I guess the good thing about being a two man column is our formation can change so easily. So if anything comes from my end let me handle it, kay~?"

Laylabelle shrugged as she kept her magic at a low but ready energy. Thanks to her training she'd learned to keep her spells prepped for instant combat. A neat trick she could manage on account of the support afforded by her Arcanamancy and Alchemy masteries.

"You're right about that feeling though~ I don't like it, I don't hate it but I don't like it either~ I mean, it was smooth walking up to this point, do you think other people are down here ahead of us?"

Laylabelle laughed a bit derisively.

"Let's be sure to double confirm our targets before letting loose, no sense in fighting comrades stranger or not. Well I hope they're comrades anyhow~ hoho~"

Role: Treasure Hunter

THE GUY was amazed at the sight before him. Who knew that there would be an entity inside of the dungeon that wasn't out to kill them? What's more, she seemed so familiar to him...

"Oh, Trinity? Are you Trinity? Hey! I'm THE GUY, it's great to meet you! I saw you in the trailer somewhen four years back. It's good to see you're still around!" He tries to make small talk with her, but it probably doesn't go out that well for him. She was an NPC, as he discovered, even if she was an animate one.

He decided it would be best to make way through the dungeon. Leading his compatriots @Brutus Dahlgren and @Corsair , THE GUY guided them as he saw fit, assuring them he knew exactly where he was going.

And boy did he end up leading them somewhere. The room they'd arrived in was gold! What a find! He exclaimed as much aloud as he ran recklessly further in, sure that he had found a great bounty of treasure!

Then he was struck dead-on by the pitfall trap. So much for his senses-prowess meant nothing when blinded by emotion.

It took a while to get him out of there.

Having arrived at a set of large, metal doors, there were clear signs of battle, evident by one of the double doors that had been torn off. Consequently, this only caused him to scan his immediate area further, leading to the quick discovery of a shattered screen....and Trinity....in the form of a cat girl. Bearing witness to her pleasant behavior, than her purring, only caused him to roll his eyes as he tore his attention elsewhere. Even after four years, that AI was still here, doing it's thing. He guessed some things never changed. "Lets get this over with." He muttered to himself.

Walking through the doorway that once held both of the metal doors in place, he found himself entering a new area, one that was clearly more dangerous than the last, though by much, he couldn't say for certain. As he continued, It didn't take long for him to notice the changes in the air. Yes, the corridors had gotten tighter, but was important was the magical residue he feel throughout the area. It was everywhere, in the air, on the ground, even on the few, broken items he had found. The longer he continued on, the clearer it became obvious this place, at some point, was a laboratory of sorts, and that something had clearly gone wrong. This place reminded him of her, and that made him on edge, triggering him to be on guard. Luckily for him, every he traversed a few more corridors, some laced with broken pipelines, others with broken furniture & equipment, he found himself facing a old, tattered door. Though he didn't know what would be behind the door, he mustered what strength he could and opened the door.

Once through, he found himself nearly baffled at what he had found. The room was...blue? And why did he find what little strength he had lost, return to him? Despite the annoyance to his eyes, he couldn't very well hide the soothing like feel it brought to his skin. It felt like he was being healed by a mage. Was this room designed specifically to heal people? Awestruck, he stood there, wanting to know more, his old self roaring at him to study what he could yet that wasn't what he wanted. Shaking his head, he quickly made his way to the other side of the room, opened it's door and pulled himself out. After closing said door and making a sigh, he continued on, leaving the room behind. Hopefully soon, he come across somebody that wasn't a complete noobie.

Corsair followed @The Guy and @Brutus Dahlgren into the room of gold. Her eyes went wide, but she stuck close. Anything this rich was clearly a trap, and she was no fool.

THE GUY on the other hand, immediately fell into a pitfall trap.

After Corsair and Brutus had hauled him free, they move on, not daring to steal from the gilded vault. There was much to explore, and most of it not as threatening as the obviously cursed gold.

"INTRUDER ALERT! COMMENCING HEALING!" Needles filled with glittering red liquid shattered on the wall behind Corsair, showering her in glass fragments.

"Fujitsu!" she shouted, tossing her spider at the rogue support bot. The spider struck, its metal fangs severing important cords in the attacker and sending it to the ground.

Corsair crept over to the ruined bot, rifling through its chassis for spare magitech and finding odd, ancient components. Whatever these were she would need more samples to figure out their usage. She cocked her head and slipped the parts into her bag. "Let's keep moving."

Brutus walked with @The Guy and @Corsair as they did their events. He applauded Corsair for her fight, patting her on the shoulder and comforted Guy for his...disastrous attempt at finding treasure. Things seemed like they were going well, until a chill ran down his spine and Brutus' bodyguard instinct kicked in. He quickly grabbed Guy and Corsair and dragged them out of the way of a ray of black energy, but not without some of it scorching his back.

Once his friends were out of danger, he turned to the cloud, canon raised and let of a couple shots. The creature was fast, but not too fast for his bullets. It ate a couple blasts before retreating, wounded but not defeated. He winced a bit and brushed his jacket off.

"That was too close."

He would then continue to walk forward with the group, taking a big breath. "Lets try to stay on our toes?"

As Darko ventured again into this dungeon, he made himself ready to tackle any challenge that this area would be thrown at him. There were no more tutorial to be gained from this area, this will be the start of the true adventure he was looking for.

As he started his adventure, he then noticed the trio of two men and a woman (@The Guy, @Corsair, and @Brutus Dahlgren) travelling together quite near. They may not see him, but with the help of his eyes that glowed in the dark with a violet hue, he could see them even in the dark dungeon. In fact, they almost could not see danger happening towards them as they fell on misfortune after misfortune, with the third one, a huge muscular oaf, had the greatest one as a sentient cloud of noxious gas exploded on his face, dealing heavy damage to his body.

As Darko then turned his head again to the front so that he could see a greater picture of what he was dealing with currently, some random beast then lunged at him, bashing him at his stomach. Visibly angered at this impudent act, Darko then released himself from the animal, drew his revolver, and then, imbuing it with dark magic, then started shooting. To the head. To the neck. To the chest. To each and every joint of its paws. He then fired and fired on its vital organs until all 16 of his chambers were emptied. While he then expelled the shells from his gun, he then moved forward to the three. While he reloaded his gun and then said, "Looks like you have got a lot of trouble there. Maybe I might just look ahead for you for a bit, I certainly do not want my conscience nagging me about this any more." He then walked briskly ahead of them without turning around.

Post 1 of Cycle 2

Role: Scout

Delving deeper into the dungeon, Ru stared with wonder at the lost architecture while fumbling his way through the halls. Though a bit unsettled by the appearance of the cat girl welcoming them in, he'd continue to plow on, eventually stumbling across a golden-hue chamber.
"Wait here for a second… let's check for traps."

The lepis proceeded forth with caution, his eyes alert while gingerly stepping across the room. A warm beam of light passed over him, radiating with a strange, tingly power, only to fade. Nothing seemed to have come from it though, whatever it was…

"Looks like the coast is clear."

He'd motion to his two companions ( @Bluebird @Moonsong ), signaling with a gesture to indicate things were okay.

Despite her less than stellar start, Kamala pressed further into the dungeon, not wanting to be deterred. She wanted to be an Explorer, dang it! And she wasn't going to just stop here. Not even if she was attacked by some crazed bat that wanted to suck her blood! Maybe this time, nothing will try to eat me.

She thought wrong. As the walls became much tighter, pulsating with some sort of magic she did not quite understand, Kamala found herself soon beset by some sort of beast, a Beta Beast. Oh, no... Slowly, she tried to show the creature that she was no threat, that she may even be a friend. The Beta Beast, however, wasn't interested in her friendship.

No, no, no! The creature charged at her like an animal that hasn't been fed for days, and she was the tasty, delicious meat that it needed, craved, to regain its senses. Fortunately for Kamala, she Sprouts on her side, specifically, Greenleaf the Bold, who poofed once more into existence, slammed straight into the beast that it did battle with, before poofing out of existence again. When all was said and done, Kamala was left alone, still reeling from the Beast's attack but overall fine. At least she didn't die.

"Oh, dear," she worried, half-relieved that she was still standing. "This dungeon is going to be the death of me."
