Darko then continued to trudge the path that was illuminated by the terminal from that clearing, and he managed to see better thanks to that very small addition to the lighting and his own abilities. But from the time he had entered this dungeon up to this stage, he had not still managed to encounter any monster in this area. Maybe this is what they meant by "beginner dungeon": a once in a lifetime spelunking experience without any monster bothering them. Or maybe a few monsters, as he then espied a goblin running towards him with a wooden club.

Darko knew that he had to act quickly before the club reaches him, and so he quickly cast the spell that he had always remembered since he had gotten his three masteries, the spell born from combining these three: a localized black hole the size of a pinhole, in order to rip this arsehole in front of him to shreds. It materialized behind the charging goblin, which then screamed in pain as its back was being torn apart by the black hole. But before it succumbed to its eventual fate of being reduced into nothing, the goblin threw its club towards Darko, who had not the time nor the constitution to dodge. It landed squarely on his stomach as he then retched and coughed in pain as he lurched and tried to keep himself standing. The black hole had disappeared, but not before taking a substantial chunk of the goblin's body, which then fell down limp to the ground. As he then glanced at the gruesome remains of the goblin, Darko thought that he was not really meant for a pitched battle, as he then moved forward, still lurching in pain.

"Sigh...." He wasn't sure how he ended up here considering what had happened already but he supposed there was no use in complaining now. He haven't had the opportunity to employ his new abilities so now was a good a time as any. With that said, as he stood there at the entrance of "Traveler's Gate" with his arms folded, examining the situation with a curious eye, It quickly became apparent he have to be careful as he advanced, not from the dangers of the dungeon of course, but rather the new players that ran past him, running amok as they went. He began wondering if all new players acted like that, but than he quickly remembered why he was here. With a small pout, he sighed again. Being a babysitter wasn't exactly what he had in mind today when he woke up but it seems Terrasphere was giving him little choice in the matter. He made up his mind. As he began his descent into the dungeon, he would help where he could, not wanting to see anyone die in such a place but hopefully, he wouldn't have to.

That soon changed as he began hearing the echoing voices of those in the distance. Following them to their source after traversing a few identical hallways, It didn't long for him to stumble across a few lost souls whom were attempting to dig themselves further in, not knowing that without any sort of equipment, they may not make it. This only caused him to stay by their side despite his lack of success in persuading them to leave. This was all due to an assortment of notes one of them had apparently found. Supposedly, It gave a greater amount of details to the reader about the dungeon but how considering they wouldn't share the notes with him, he very well doubted their claims, causing him to become skeptical over the matter. Not wanting to get into a debate, he simply let the subject go and allowed the energic one to take point. For several more minutes, he followed them patiently from the rear, watching closely for any dangers as they made their way deeper into the dungeon. Everything was going smoothly until they reached a corridor where it's aged, cracked floor was hidden from the naked eye, having been swallowed by large puddles of water.

After they heard a monstrous echo in the distance, one of them, the energic one with the scribbled notes got ahead of himself and made a hasty dash for the other end of the corridor, and as a consequence, as he reached the halfway point, he ended up tripping on a hidden, loose stone hidden by the water, sending him face first into the ground, along with the notes. While the others panicked and raced for their fallen companion, he tilted his head over his right shoulder and looked towards the wall in dismay. He couldn't say he was surprised all things considered but maybe this was a sign to push on by himself? He didn't want to leave but it was probably for the best. After he gave them the advice to return to the surface, he pushed on, walking past them. Once they were out of his sight, he prepared for the worst as he attempted to locate the source of that echo he had just heard a few minutes prior.

"Beginner dungeon, huh...?"

Tristaria had followed the clues, though given how many people were already halfway down the mossy hallway before her, she'd been one of the slower ones. That was fine. She didn't give a crap about Terrasphere anyway. Stupid death game. Any one of these people could vanish at any moment. Gone like the wind. Did they know that?

"Okay. Let's get this tutorial over this."

@Caligo

Not long after she'd entered the stone halls, Tris came across a silver-haired beastkin. He looked a bit exasperated, for lack of a better word. Or maybe the word was scared? A long howling noise echoed through the halls in front of him shortly before the source came rushing in. Watching him release a frantic outburst of fearful emotions was, she thought, ironic, given how closely he resembled a wolf himself.

Even so, Tristaria stared in wonder as a beautiful and dazzling swarm of butterflies surrounded the wolf until it dropped lifeless to the ground. Granted, her "wonder-filled eyes" looked more bored than anything, but it was the thought that counted. Gosh, Terrasphere was kind of...

...

...awful. It was awful. Definitely.

Another howl arose from whence the first had come, and soon after, its buddy rounded the corner to join. It glanced at its dead companion, snarled its angriest snarl, and rushed forward. Where the beastkin had shown great depths of emotion, the magia simply stepped forward and stared down the wolf like it was a kid acting up the wrong way.

It snapped its jaw on her arm, only to reflexively recoil as her body delivered a powerful shock right to its face. "There's another one," she stated the obvious. Stepping forward, Tristaria placed a hand on its head. In a flash, it lit up with so much electricity, the entire wolf's body glowed blue for a brief moment. It collapsed beside the other one, smoking like an overcooked steak.

Tris smiled just the faintest hint of a smile. There was something about the powerful feeling of commanding such realistic feeling masteries... it made her feel like a superhero. Maybe...

...

Her smile vanished again. Terrasphere was still the worst.

Darko continued on with his trek, his abdomen still hurting from the former run-in against the goblin. Maybe he should consider investing more money into his clothes to make them tougher and more rigid against attacks, as well as investing more time in evasive maneuvers so that he would not be a pushover in the upcoming battles. This is just a "Beginner Dungeon", the upcoming content should be far more dangerous than this.

He had walked quite far into this straight pathway when he arrived at another clearing that was eerily glowing. Thinking that he was moving in circles again, he then looked into the room to be sure. As he saw another floating terminal within that area, he then thought that maybe he was moving in circles again. But this time there were two other paths instead of one, and so maybe there were still more places to explore. He then moved to the terminal and looked at what tips it would offer him, as the last one was quite useless for him. This time however, it was for noticing patterns in common mob monsters and a tutorial for using the dodge mechanic. It would still be useless for major battles however, but this is a good start. Darko watched the whole tutorial for some minutes before continuing on his trek as he then chose the path on the left side.

Wearing the shiny thing the bird lady gave to him, Hanno continued marching on, pushing further into the dungeon where he eventually found a small vial scattered around. He blinked surprised, leaning down and taking the vial before looking around and seeing many of the other players wandering deeper. "Hey, did anyone-" He paused, squinting at himself while glancing down at the vial and then back up at everyone else. No, he wouldn't fall for that again.

The last time he asked around who lost something of value, a bunch of 'owners' appeared and he found himself in a very awkward situation. He wasn't going to fall for this social trap any longer.

He was going to keep that potion!

Opening the lid, Hanno poured the liquid on the wounds that the wolf struck on him. But on top of the wounds closing, the shiny object the Bluebird gave to him brimmed, making the magic liquid become even more potent. "Wow, that's neat, not gonna lie." He whistled impressed, waving at the bird. "Thanks again, buddy!"

There's robots in this game. Of course there's robots in this game, why is that surprising. This is probably a completely normal thing, magic robot coming out of nowhere to save you from wolves. Even if it was really freaking cool. Stop staring she's gonna think you're weird.

Caligo attempts to shake the awed expression off his face and greet his rescuer properly. @Tristaria

"...wolves..."

No, be cool! Caligo lightly smacks his face with both hands a few times, as if to refresh himself after the intense experience. "Hi, thank you so much for the rescue! I'm Caligo, I'm, uh, a little new here but I'm starting to figure things out. Do you wanna work together in here? I promise I'll be really helpful. Oh, and what's your name?"

As he waits for an answer, Caligo sets his face in a determined expression. He may be new, but he won't be a burden. This person clearly knows what she's doing, but he can summon butterflies from his soul, he can absolutely contribute. He goes to take a step further into the dungeon. Or, wait, is that back towards the entrance? Which direction did those wolves come from? He tries to listen, but shivers as the ears atop his head pick up nothing but distant howls and shouts from all directions.

"Also... do you know where we are?"

That…yes, that was a familiar voice.

One boisterous and one high-pitched, hitting the sort of grating notes that most definitely wormed their way into his wrinkly little meat-computer four years ago. Now though? Only vague recollections of that little witch remained. Her association with Vermillion, her brand of harmless evil, and above all, her pretensions towards great power and evil, one that did not match the breadth of her vocabulary. It appeared that @Blank hadn’t had the chance to read many books since they’ve last met, hm? Though she certainly seemed improved since last time, mentally, if nothing else.

Had four years caused the rose inside her to wither too? He would have to ask. There may have been hope for Eldhi still. But for now?

“Ah yes, the Nameless Witch of Permafrost,” Cain grinned, snapping his fingers in her direction. “It has been many seasons since our last rendezvous beneath the Twilight of the Dark God’s Descent, and my heart warms as quickly as your ice freezes, seeing that you have found, once more, new ways to leverage your mastery of Hydromancy! It would be glorious if we were to form an alliance, and sunder the entirety of this plane’s monsters with a symphonic display of boreal deluge.”

In the distance, the stars played their music. In the distance, the darkness coalesced. Fate wove celestial strings, and the sounds of discord caused them to ring.

The Flagbearer tilted his head towards the Witch once more. “Unfortunately, duty calls, and I must leave to answer it. It’s been a pleasure, Megan~ Oh, and @Mighty Rumblehide ?” Cain slapped Blank’s back. “This one here’s definitely a tough mage, so if you stick with her, you can’t go wrong, even without a map!”

And then, hand on his hat, he was off, following a path made of constellations that only he was privy to seeing.

Through ambient light and moss-grown stone, the Flagbearer accelerated further and further, portents of doom echoing with greater and greater volume until…

Shadow bloomed and shadow seeped, virtual veins blackening with powers foul and taboo. He saw the woman, brandishing ethereal weapons. He saw the monster, form indistinct and crackling with malevolence. And he reached out, not with his flag, but with his hand. Open. Then close.

The Shadow Cloud disappeared, as if swallowed by an invisible being, and Cain skid to a stop as well, the protruded veins on his arm receding. He rolled his wrist a few more times, checked to make sure his hat was still on his head, and then winked at the young lass and her arsenal of magical weaponry. That was popular now, wasn’t it? The floating weapons thing.

“Are you quite alright?” he asked, taking the moment to catch his own breath. “Apologies for claiming the monster’s life before you could test your mettle against it; it’s simply a personal principle of mine to step in if there’s a risk of real danger, you see. And such things…”

Cain opened that hand of his again, revealing a black marble. A gas compressed into a solid. A cloud bound to forever sink into the gravity of a collapsed star.

“...aren’t really native to this area anyhow.”

She was ready to move on when a voice reverberates through the dungeon. It seems that someone named Cain tried to contact the people who had already gone inside through Harmonics magic. Pretty cool, let's see what he has to say.

Oh yeah, I don't understand any of those big words.

The 'Call my name, and I shall appear' part is the only thing that is stuck somewhere in her brain. "Ah, so if I get into trouble, I should call him and he'll come to my aid, is that it? Such a generous guy." Moonsong continued to walk while looking at the sphere she collected. "But I shouldn't need the help. After all, I have this ball—"

Click.

She froze. The girl stepped on something and it doesn't sound really good. The sphere's screen showed a hint "Beware of switch traps. Always look down." Wow, the hint couldn't come soon enough, huh? Then, some kind of gassy smoke seeped through the cracks on the wall, forming a dark cloud. The sphere beeped.

Warning.

Shadow Cloud Imminent.

RUN.

Moonsong fell on her butt witnessing the sinister cloud forming before her. What the actual hell. She would call the earlier @Cain Darlite, but her mouth won't open. She instinctively summoned her weapons and stood up, trying to hold her ground against the suffocating cloud. It's not good, not good at all. This is far stronger than anything I ever faced. With her mind scattered and unfocused, she tried to send her barely materializing starcalled weapons to the enemy.

But then there was no cloud, not even any traces of it. She opened her eyes and the Cain person was already there, likely rushing here after sensing the danger. The powerful foe was no more, reduced into a single marble by such immense power. Moonsong tried to express her thanks, only to stutter through it. "I-I-I.." She calmed herself before bowing in her usual cultural fashion. "Thank you very much."

Well, that's a lesson on awareness.

So, the problem with staring all slack-jawed at a stranger in fancy duds spending about six hundred words too many to say "Hey there pal, been a while! You're lookin' stronger than last time!" before slapping you on the back and passing babysitting duties off to the ice with before galivanting away to try and impress some other random adventurer is that it provides the perfect cover for a gigantic flying rant to size up your neck, get through the twelve paragraph story at the beginning of the blog post on how to prepare the best elf flesh sandwich, pop off to the market for some fresh lettuce and tomatoes, dab a little mustard on it, and take a big ol' fucking bite.

The edges of Rumble's vision pulsed red--either a warning of her rapidly-dwindling HP, or of actual splashes of blood once the bat's fangs tore free from her. With a deadly scream, she reached for her mace and swung around, an arc of steel flashing through the air. The bat swooped out of the way, and instead her weapon crashed into the wall.

As the bat flew down a hall and around a corner, she swore that it was snickering at her.

Holstering her mace, she pressed a hand against her wound. Blood slowly seeped between her fingers while the warning chime rang in her ears. Rumble turned towards the witch and asked, "You wouldn't happen to have a heal or potion handy for a newbie, would you?"

As the group proceeded in further, Ru bore witness to numerous antics and shenanigans by his fellow dungeon delvers that had joined after. Despite the chaotic jumbled mess they had formed, the group seemed strangely productive in carving a path through the dungeon. Sticking relatively close to the lady he had initially found ( @Bluebird ), Ru continued to press forth to survey for others.

During his excursion, he'd come across a rather strange looking device that simply hovered there. Unsure as to its nature, Ru grabbed a nearby stone, chucking it first to gauge for a reaction. Cautiously he'd stray up to the device before letting out a sigh of relief. "Teamwork is everything… you won't get very far alone… and even if you did, that'd be no fun?" A lone eye brow rose while questioning the nature of the advice. It seemed rather… plain and intuitive for such a gaudy looking device. He had been hoping for something a bit more concrete, like a map.

Upon returning to the group, he'd beckon towards two others (@Bluebird @Moonsong ) , indicating the way forth was secure. "You two seem to have fallen upon some bad luck. I'd advise taking this corridor… the next segment's already been thoroughly checked for traps." A hand would wave at the two as he offered his assistance.

As you explore you encounter a room with one of the Hint Devices hovering in the center. The floor around it has a strange black substance that smells like... cat vomit? The door on the other side has a barely visible field of energy preventing you from going further. Something tells you it's not safe to just walk over the goop and it's not like you couldn't just walk around to the door in the back... but the barrier. There does seem to be some debris laying around. Even if you reach the device, will it give you a way to remove the barrier?

Roll an Expertise Check (excluding Presence) against the Puzzle DC of 50.
Once five characters solve the puzzle this event ends. Add x/5 to show the number of clears by your post. This event replaces one of your posting turns if you challenge it and you do not have to roll an event roll.

  • If you fail take 20 HP damage. You may try again until you succeed if you reach 0 HP you will be ejected but not killed.
  • Abstain and you must go another way. Nothing happens.
  • If you succeed you may proceed and add 40 to DP.

[Do you see the danger here? Thankfully, due to your DYNAMISM Mastery, you will be able to navigate this puzzle without need of Expertise!]

"Seriously, what is Dynamism supposed to be..?" THE GUY wondered to himself. Ever since he'd walked past that supposedly endless hallway, the game seemed sure of the fact that he had this Dynamism thing. Perhaps the came already thought he was cool. He sure thought the game was cool, so it was only fair he received the same in turn. He still had no idea what it was talking about, but thankfully for the time being it hadn't given him an impossible challenge related to a skill he had yet to obtain.

He could take this room as an example. Sure, the pit seemed quite dangerous, but the jumps themselves didn't actually seem out of his reach. He could make it-and he did. Looking back at where he leapt from, he only now noticed the Hint bubble across the gap.

"Oh. Ah, well. THE GUY has got this covered!"

What proceeded was a terrible misuse of puzzles. THE GUY just... forced himself to walk through the barrier. It took him a good minute of struggle as he shoved himself through, but managed to make it through all the same.

There were notary tales of caution deserving of newbies zerg rushing their way into a dungeon. Even moreso for his dumb ass that was still getting used to the controls in this body.

But if the entire point of a game was, well, to meet people the least he could do is try to get a head start on that.

Cue making his way to...eugh. What was this strange, familiar smell? No. No, don't think on it. Don't break the stoic facade just yet, he told himself. Yet, even so he couldn't help but wince, nose wrinkling as he rose one gauntleted hand up to cover it.

The other lowered down to the pool ahead. "Going to see if I can freeze a path across for us," the elf offered grimly, "Just...be careful."

The famous last words of a man who just narrowly avoids manging to slip himself, his first foray into this world almost the most unsightly one possible.

Dungeon Roll: Vanguard

Though a little late to the party, Mio thought she'd give things a chance. It seemed like a risk at first but having high hopes of a nice pay out at the end of the dungeon she endeavored to try anyway. However unfortunate, the poor girl's encounter right away wasn't a pleasant one.

A Shadow Cloud, a dangerous foe, she could tell immediately watching it waft towards her. "Hap!" Trying her best to at least fend it off. Trading blows was an unfortunate consequence to her escape though, hands drenched in ink, tail's tip dotted and spun like a calligraphy brush. She swiped and swung tail and limbs at the bizarre creature to maintain distance but contact with it seemed to only burn and harm her as she continued.

After a long time of running, acrobatics and fighting back she'd managed to lose it. Breathing heavily, roughly, leaning on a wall peering around corners to make sure there was no sign of the creature still. "Haa... Haa... Crazy... Monster..." She huffed and puffed, but still managed a bright smile. She wasn't new to taking a loss at least, how many times had she endured these feelings in reality after all? In a game this set back was rough but nothing!

Pushing herself back up to her feet, her tail began marking walls as she went, warning of the Shadow Cloud that was likely still looking for her. Every few halls she would use her tail to paint another symbol or marking in hopes that she might warn or help some poor soul as she pushed ahead.

Blank frowns at Rumblehide's wounds, "What? Heal you? I can't freeze your wounds shut! That's not going to help." With an exasperated sigh, she wove her staff and sent Rumblehide tumbling backward through time to the point she had encountered the bat. Instead of the bat being there, though, it remained dead, leaving Rumblehide unscathed from the wounds she had received from it (and perhaps slightly bruised from being jarred back in time like that). "I really hate using that magic, so consider that your freebie!"

Turning back to the source of her frustration Blank's eyes drilled holes into the back of Cain as he sauntered on ahead. She wasn't exactly sure what all he had said, but he did so in suck a cocky attitude it left Megan in a foul mood. Which made the upcoming puzzle a perfect outlet for her frustrations. Without bothering to find a reasonable solution to the device, she merely removed her eyepatch. She used her demon eye to follow its magical mechanisms to their weak point, which she then blasted with a hefty spear of ice. It wasn't enough to fully overload the device but clearly weakened the field blocking the way significantly.

@Caligo

Tris turned to notice the dazzling beastkin staring down at her. She glanced back up. No expression. There was never any expression.

"Wolves," she echoed in affirmation. Kind of obvious, but if helped to say it out loud, who was she to argue. She was about to move on when he slapped himself around a few times, presumably smacking some sense into himself. It worked! He made sense now.

"Tristaria," she answered shortly. For a moment, it looked as if she was going to leave it at that, ignoring everything else Caligo had said, but after the long pause, she spoke again. "Okay. And I wouldn't call it a rescue," Tris added, glancing to the side at the wolf dotted with butterfly-shaped burn marks.

"I do know where we are, yes," Tris answered as she started down the hall. "Traveller's Gate." Proud to be a helpful fount of information, she led on.

The next room was an immediate overload of stimuli. The smell was first: a horrific stench of rot that she was thankful to say she'd never smelled before. Beyond just that, the pit of goop, and the many who were crossing it in various ways, also served as points of interest.

@Halueth Ruina

While there were certainly other ways of crossing that one could conceive of, Tristaria took notice of a convenient ice bridge created by a tall and long-haired elf. Helpful!

Without waiting, she stepped up and followed closely behind, forgetting one crucial detail about ice: it was slippery! Tris felt her leg slip, foot plunging deep into the dubious black tar-stuff on the floor. Immediately, she felt a sharp stinging sensation and dragged her foot out, only to slip back the other way and suffer the same fate for her left arm.

"Oww," she spoke calmly: a tone that felt more like a casual statement than a cry of pain. Slowly standing on the ice once again, she began to traverse a second time: much more slowly, inching her way across in a graceless shimmying that brought her to the center island.

"Ice? Really?" Tris questioned, staring up at the elf who'd made the bridge as she aggressively scraped the lingering tar off her boots.

Bluebird is enjoying herself, despite the getting lost and the rather chaotic number of people the group seems to have become. She's meeting people, she's helping them out, and they're all working towards the same goal. No one sees her as anything other than just another member of this party.

It's nice. It's not the same as truly belonging, but for now she feels like she can relax a little.

Nodding in response to @Ru Ning's suggestion, Bluebird skips along, humming along with her step. It isn't long before she comes across the room, with all its smells and strange ways around the slime. She tilts her head, then nods with a quiet pump of her fists. "Ah, that orb must be what we want! I can retrieve it!"

She takes a deep breath and whistles, quick and birdlike, and a gust of wind pulls her into the air along with her tittering song. She lights briefly near the terminal, and after a moment's thought attempts to activate it... or, barring that, or simply pick it up and carry it towards the barrier.

Ilya grinned, "I just really enjoy feeling strong and helping out my friends." her reason for fighting as hard as she did, her friends. Ilya just had to make them proud, and she wanted to go on adventures and have more memories with every single one of them. Ilya trotted after Bluebird, following her and listening to what she had to say. "I have a love, hate relationship with music to be honest. Though that's only because it kind of takes over my life in the real world..." Ilya offered a small grimace, "Though you remind me of a songbird. It's beautiful." Seeing the glittering jewel that Bluebird was holding caused Ilya's grimace to be replaced by delight. "It's beautiful, I love the stone that's embedded. It matches your eyes!" She held out her hand, if Bluebird were to hand the necklace over, Ilya would gesture for Bluebird to turn around. Her fingers would then drape the necklace around Bluebird's neck and clasp it behind her before having her turn back around. "See? It suits you so well and it makes your eyes pop!"

Brutus found himself lingering at the entrance to the dungeon for a moment. His partner, Corsair was on his heels. Taking a deep breath, he took his first steps into the dungeon. A lot of firsts today, he mused to himself. He'd just started the game, and here he was already diving into the deep end. He could feel a knot forming in his stomach, the woman behind him was putting a rather...large amount of faith in him and his abilities. Sure, he'd performed...alright earlier during their task in the forest, but he'd let a goblin slip by and that made him nervous. One slip up could lead to more, more could lead to death. If getting sliced on the calf by a goblin hurt that much...how much could dying hurt? He certainly didn't want to count his first death today, nor his partners.

He'd been so rapt in thought that he'd barely noticed the danger looming until it was too late. A bit of dust was his only warning sign, followed by a loud crack. "SHIT." His eyes widened, and without even thinking his arm shot out and grabbed the robotic woman behind him. Sweeping her of her feet, he bolted forward as fast as he could as rocks began to rain from the ceiling. He hunched forward, providing her with some cover as several stones pelted painfully into his back. He grit his teeth as the pain coursed through him, but didn't stop until both were clear of the danger.

"You ok?" He would simply mutter, setting Corsair down and dusting her shoulders off slightly. His breathing was slightly heavy as he struggled to regain his composure.
