Travelers Gate
A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step

RV8M8ia.jpg

[Dungeon Progress 0 / 8000]
Area: Travelers Path [0-????]
Scouting (DC 20)
Treasure (DC 40)

Eastern Brisshal.

After logging in for the first time. Travelers awaken here, With the comfy village of Honeyhome, random hungry wolves to welcome them, and the promise of incredible experiences right around the corner.

There was also one more famous landmark that some may remember. A certain "Beginners Cave" that housed strange properties making it the perfect tutorial dungeon of sorts for the freshly created adventurer. Sometimes even the mascot that spread the commercials whenever the clock on a device hit 3:33 would personally guide them through the cavern. Teaching about needs meters, pain limiters, attacking and defending, and more.

With the return of Terrasphere, the mascot has not yet appeared. One after another travelers are once again falling like a meteor shower across the land. The cave that once was is gone.

And yet...

Rumors tell that if you follow the Blue Rapids, find the Power Stones and search around just right, you will find a new dungeon. Entering would show the words [Welcome to Travelers Gate] in a distinctly blue hue within a Travelers UI. Encountering several Green Slimes, Goblin Weaklings, and easily dispatching them has led several Travelers to consider this the new Beginners Cave.

Welcome to a new world would be Starcalled...

BBKLXkQ.jpg

The area recent Travelers have entered and reported findings from. It's a wide halled, array of passages. Walls of light gray stone and many parts decayed away with rock walls poking through as if to naturally replace them. Every path has about 2-3 areas of the stone wall that emit a gentle glow of light. The phenomenon removes the need for an artificial light source. Water passes underfoot in some paths, small patches of grass and moss give a bit of green to the halls, and monsters as reported are unnaturally weak.

There is no indication of what civilization may have built this underground complex. Yet exploring comes naturally to you... right?

Dungeon Rules:
  • This dungeon has a 1 character per player limit. It is closed during World Boss and any Story Events that are sitewide.
  • Decrease your HP by 10 each post you make in the thread. You may only post 5 times per cycle. This can be divided in any way you wish (but still following the no double-posting rule. Doing so means that your character is rushing ahead and of course as consequence, it will be harder to react to situations involving other characters within the cycle.
  • It's good to keep your post brief. You may tag others in the dungeon for rp opportunity or to use a Role Ability on them.
  • Dungeon Progress (DP) starts at 0 and you add to the number by rolling the basic attack action, no special or bonus actions are allowed.
  • Every cycle update (arguably a week), this dungeon's DP will decrease by 1000. Work together to beat the decay.
  • If you are ejected for any reason (including voluntary exit), you cannot return for 1 month.

How To Play:
  • Choose which character and which Dungeon Role before you jump into this dungeon thread.
  • Order of Play: Roll 1d20 for Dungeon Event > Decide whether or not to use your Role Ability (if available) > Perform an Attack Roll for DP Contribution > RP Post
Dungeon Roles:
When you make your first post you must choose one of several roles. These roles cannot be changed unless you exit the dungeon and restart after 1 month.
  • Scout: Once per cycle you may make an extra Expertise Check (Awareness) against the scouting DC (under DP top of page). It costs 10 HP to prepare others for the path ahead. Success negates 1 negative event or battle roll for 2 tagged allies this cycle. Failure costs you an additional 10 HP.
  • Vanguard: Your DP contribution is +10 each time you post.
  • Supporter (Supportive Mastery Required): Once per cycle, you spend 30 HP to restore others' HP equal to your highest support mastery +5 per MR (D+5, C+10, B+15, A+20, S+25). This can be divided between 2 different tagged allies.
  • Treasure Hunter: Once per cycle you may make an extra Expertise Check (Knack) for 10 HP against the Treasure DC (under DP top of page) to search for loot. Success increases the effects of 2 tagged ally's positive event rolls this cycle (increase effects by 25. Failure costs you an additional 10 HP.
  • Protector (Defensive Mastery Required): Once per cycle for 30 HP, you may replace 1 tagged ally that triggered a battle event and fight for them by taunting their enemy.

Dungeon Events:
These are events that take place in your rp post. Roll a 1d20 for the Area (changes based on DP thresholds) you are currently exploring. The rolled event immediately affects your post. Follow the specific instructions for each event.

[Travelers Path]
  1. (Dangerous Enemy) A Shadow Cloud appears! Battle using discord before you post.
  2. Green Slime appears! Battle using discord before you post.
  3. Some noob dropped a stash of healing potions. Why not use some? Restore 20 HP when you post.
  4. The halls all look the same... subtract 50 from DP.
  5. It's quiet... nothing happens.
  6. Green Slime appears! Battle using discord before you post.
  7. Found a strange device with a screen hovering in the path. Touching the device offers you hints on how to play Terrasphere. Add 50 to DP.

  9. A Wolf appears! Battle using discord before you post.
  10. A sudden cracking... rocks fall from above! Lose 20 HP.

Blank had begun to hear the stories. The nightly star falls were players returning to the game. It had never occurred to her that the players could, or even would, come back, but after running into a few new fresh faces, it was a fact that couldn't be avoided. They didn't know the dangers of this world, not truly, or so she assumed. So when she had heard of a new dungeon being considered a 'beginners' dungeon she sought it out. Without fear, she delved in head first, determined to find the actual dangers that lurked here. Unfortunately, as strong as she was, she wasn't very smart and immediately became lost in the strange cave-like area, and began to wander around in circles near the entrance yelling, "HELLO! IS THERE ANYONE THERE?" At least she was able to cool the cave off with her ice magic, at least no one would die of heatstroke.

Having heard rumors of a beginner's cave while wandering about town, Ru thought it prudent to visit at least once to hone his skills. Upon arriving at the cave, the lepis idled around on a rock outside while waiting for others to gather. After all, it didn't seem very safe to delve inside alone. His ears twitched slightly though upon hearing a voice call out from inside. Apparently another had begun without him?

"I'M COMING!" Running in towards the sound of her voice, he joined up with a youthful looking mage in an uneventful fashion then continued to uncover the path forward. "Haha! And here I was waiting outside thinking nobody had gone in yet."

"If I am to become stronger, at the very least I must be able to overcome this kind of dungeon." Moonsong walked straight into the entrance as the words [Welcome to Travelers Gate] appeared on her UI. There are several paths ahead, and while she was pondering where to go next, Moonsong sensed something in the pile of rubble near the walls. Inspecting it revealed a strange sphere with a screen hovering, and as soon as she touched it, it shows several tip messages akin to the ones on videogames' loading screen, and on top of it also provides useful hints for navigating the dungeon.

"Hmph, this is a good start."

"Hmm hmm hmm~"

Bluebird is lost, but she doesn't mind. She hums a formless tune as she navigates the twisting halls, more focused on simply enjoying the environment. It feels more peaceful than dangerous, with the trickling sound of water across stones and the gentle glow of the walls.

Somewhere in the distance she hears an echoing voice. She stops humming, wings fluttering before she changes her direction, talons clicking on the cobbles as she navigates towards them. It isn't long before she turns an ice-slick corner and sees the others. She smiles and skips over, taking a moment to marvel at the height of the rabbit-person before greeting them both with a quick bow.

"Hello!" she calls, voice echoing with traces of Harmonic Magic conveying friendliness and good intentions. "Are you exploring the dungeon too?" She puts her hands behind her back. "I am Bluebird. Shall we travel together?"

Sol searched out Traveler's Gate with the intention to see what secrets were inside. A lot of new players also seemed to have the same idea as here, because when she arrived she could very clearly hear speaking from the inside. Not that she was much of a people person, but in situations like these it wouldn't hurt to team up with others. Stepping into the dungeon, she followed the sounds of their voices.

She continued to follow for while, turning left and right to track the sound, until she came across a very obvious dead end. Puzzled, she paused for a moment as if confused, the sounds of the other players voices still echoing around her, before she turned and headed back the way she came from to start anew.

[Welcome to Travelers Gate]

The little blip appeared on Mighty Rumblehide's UI, exactly where the rumors said it would be. The promise of a scraping of experience and a pittance of gold was enough to get her to hustle her ass out that way; but if she could make some connections as well? All for the better.

She wasn't that stupid that she thought she could solo this game.

As the elf strolled through the stonework halls, she did her best to follow the echoing voices of fellow adventurers. "Hello," she called out after them. "Can you hear me? Wait up!"

Rumble, for the lack of a better term, rumbled through Travelers Gate in a sprint in an effort to catch up with these strangers.

The music of the stars sounded brightly within his mind, the Flagbearer of Miracle stepping into the depths of the cave. The Beginner’s Cave in which he once sharpened his knowledge of the world was gone, and Trinity had yet to descend upon the populace with her candy-coated wisdom. This Traveller’s Gate then, benign as it appeared, was just a dungeon, crawling with monstrosities that could slay even the strongest players with a combination of misfortune and numbers. And, beyond even that, he could feel it.

Slinking through shadowed corridors, waiting at dead ends. The stars shone bright, but the darkness between them would swallow up souls without remorse. Existences foul and malignant, mismatched for its nature environment, stalked such caves. And with such knowledge at his disposal, it would be wholly irresponsible for him to simply let the kiddos act as they pleased.

“Ah, grown to be quite the boring little killjoy, haven’t you?”

Four years past, he’d be at the vanguard, cheering people on as they recklessly sprinted into the unknown, spitting in the face of the denizens of the deep. And now?

Cain allowed his magic to reverbrate, Harmonics synchronizing with the very stone of the dungeon until it could be heard to all within the lair of the death clouds.

“Allow me to introduce myself, fellow adventurers! I am Cain Darlite, Flagbearer of Miracles, Seer of the Darkness Beyond the Stars. Paltry monsters lurk this dungeon, but amongst them lies a foe of unbecoming power, preying upon those immortals amongst us who have yet to carve their own legends upon this world. And so, as one somewhat further along than you, let this humble bard be your safeguard against such opportunistic predators.”

He smiled, fate weaving paths for him, silver lights amongst flame-touched walls.

“Call my name, and I shall appear, to banish that ill-placed aberrant from this world."

Turning back to @Ru Ning , Blank tried her hardest to smile despite being quite flustered at being lost, "Ah lost were you! No need to worry! I know the way.... Perfectly!" If the blatant lie bugged her, Blank didn't let it show as she turned inward and acted as if nothing had happened. However, as she heard the voices up ahead she strode forward pushing through the small group that had gathered.

@Cain Darlite was probably someone she had seen before, she knew that in the back of her head, but if she had it had been enough years that she had forgotten mostly about him, Vermillion's rose had left her memory full of holes after all. Maybe she had just heard stories, either way, he was vaguely familiar in the most annoying way. But she wasn't about to be outdone by some good-looking, smooth-talking wanna-be. She was the real deal. Unlike him.

With a dramatic flourish of her black robes she loudly boomed, "AND I AM SHE WITHOUT A NAME, AND YET YOU KNOW ME AS THE GREATEST ICE MAGICIAN TO EVER LIVE! DAUGHTER OF THE DARK STAR! GODDESS OF THE MOUNTAIN! SEALER OF GODS! AND THE GRACE BY WHICH YOU MAY LIVE. SO WORRY NOT LITTLE CHILDREN! FOR I AM HERE TO COVER YOUR WOUNDS IN ICE! And... uh... YOUR ENEMIES! THEY'LL GET FROZEN TOO! ONWARD!"

By the end of her screech it was clear she had wished to continue but her voice had become too hoarse from the screaming to say any more. Instead, she waved her staff around and blessed a few nearby with a protective ice barrier that hover a foot or two before them, before turning to Cain with smug satisfaction.

THE GUY had much to do, and so little time to do it. In just the mere span of an hour's time, he'd logged back into that so-very strange place he'd logged out of just four years ago, all before his life had changed so drastically... Only to find that this place had changed, as well. THE GUY had quite the memory-and this didn't look like the place he had been before.

Where was this?

[Welcome to Travelers Gate]

"Well, thank you, Travelers Gate! THE GUY is sure to accept this hospitality! Witness me!" With no further hesitation, THE GUY decided to head where he assumed was immediately further into the dungeon-only to run into an obstacle at first step.

E-gads, it was a Killer Bat! Now this was more like it! As if abandoning his own safety, THE GUY leapt into the fray of mortal combat. This was it--this waas what he had been missing for all of these years! He was fighting a real monster right out of the gate!

THE GUY came out of it panting, blood missing and absolutely enamored with the thrill that had overtaken him. He was back. This really was Terrasphere.

Is she lost?

She is lost.

Which makes perfect sense, when you are named Mighty Rumblehide; not Navigator Seek'n'find.

Two people were shouting deeper in Travelers Gate. To the elf, that was good enough. Follow the voices; keep an eye out for monsters (a couple corpses were strewn about), and shield up! in case more bits and pieces of the ceiling decided to try and meet the floor.

Down the winding stone hallways she went, until she came upon a chamber with a few of the others. Others who also seemed to be lost; and were currently engaged in a duel of heroic theatrics.

Rumble would have joined in, but... Well.. Have you seen her stats?!

With an exasperated look, the elf managed to catch her breath after a moment. "Any of you happen to have a map or something?"

Darko had arrived in this area after some people started speaking about a mysterious gate happening to rise out of nowhere, and so he decided to investigate and see for himself what was going on. Right off the bat however, some form of theatrics ensued between what seemed to be a young witch and what seemed to be an army flagbearer. Darko paid them no heed: this seemed to happen quite frequently whenever there is a call-to-arms or a major event happening, but he actually hated those sort of things. He then took off the eyepatch on his right eye to give himself a better acuity on what was within this gate. He then activated Investigation Mode through his own mastery as the magical circles on his right eye glowed brilliantly as he trudged through the dungeon behind the gate.

However, when he was about to go to one direction, he heard a shout coming from the player in that area, seemingly to be asking for a map. Knowing that that area might have been a no-go, Darko then pursued the opposite direction. But as he was progressing through the hallways in there, he noticed something was odd. It was as if the path he took would just lead him to where he once started. And... his intuition was right, he just went into a semicircular path to some meters away from his starting point. At least there was this straight path that was left to tackle, but he should have searched for hidden passages on that side.

Ilya had entered the dungeon, giving her a pang of nostalgia. Recalling her adventure thus far in this world and the many amounts of dungeons she had encountered. However here, it felt... easy, almost too easy. I mean it is a dungeon set out for beginners.. The trials in here would be easy for a lion of her caliber.

Ilya was shaken out of her thoughts as she heard voices, magic tainting the air as a a rather strange beastfolk entered her peripherals. She then had introduced herself as @Bluebird. "Ahh, I'm known as Ilya here. I wouldn't mind a companion to travel with. Though I suppose before we actually work together we ought to know a bit about each other's fighting styles so we can cover each other's backs." A voice interrupted Ilya's greeting, Cain... He was once again flaunting himself. Though he was offering his services as a safeguard, Ilya couldn't let him outdo her. As Ilya was about to speak back, another voiced boomed through the dungeon. Idiots... Ilya decided it was best not to draw the attention of monsters towards her.

Instead she turned towards Bluebird, "Shall we move onwards as we explain what we can do?" As they trekked, a wolf appeared out of the cavern walls, almost materializing with magic. Though Ilya knew better, it had been hiding in the shadows waiting for an unfortunate player to pass by. She had just gotten through explaining her skills when she kicked into action. She drew her fist back and shot it forwards, pummeling the poor wolf and killing it instantly, "As I was saying, I use my fists and fight head on." She grinned back at Bluebird, waiting for her to speak and explain her own set of skills.

Since Pete was a beginner, he could not ignore the pull of this certain "Beginners Cave," like a tiny nail being drawn to an unknown magnet with boundless potential. Of course, Pete was not just a mere beginner. Oh, no. Pete was the worst beginner of all: He was super slow to understanding new things, and he seemed allergic to just taking his time with it for his mediocre mind to be able to catch up with whatever was going on around him.

Thus, the Blue Rapids, the Power Stones, and all the many terms and jargons were thrown haphazardly into the mushy melting pot of his brain. Pete tried to remember them all but could not, instead falling prey to just pretty much following the rest of the newbies with him. Even the whole welcoming message within the UI was quickly forgotten. How could he try to remember? When a rock almost tries to put him out of his misery right on the get-go.

"Bruv, what the bloody hell?" Pete moaned and groaned as he tried his best to recover from the falling rocks from out of nowhere. In the dungeon's defense, he was an outsider, a virus, and it was probably just trying to defend itself. That and Pete was too stupid to keep to the safer parts of the place, to avoid the clues of crumbling crevices, to roll out of the way like in the many safety seminars that he had slept through in the real world. The dungeon was made of stone and rocks. Anyone with half a brain would keep their eyes on them. Pete only had a quarter of a brain.

"Oh there's a tutorial... thank the gods there's a tutorial" Caligo pants, as he approaches the entrance to the dungeon on shaky legs. "Why did I fall out of the sky in a forest full of wolves. Who drops someone in a forest full of wolves. That's just cruel."

As the welcome message fades away, he steps into the stone corridor and shivers at the chill. As he travels deeper into the dungeon, he starts to ponder out loud: "There must be weapons in here, right? They wouldn't just drop us in here without weapons, right? ...well either way, anything is better than the wolves outside."

Snarls echo from the hallway ahead.

"NO! COME ON! HERE TOO? GET AWAY FROM ME!"

With this outburst of emotion, a silver light shoots out from Caligo's chest. Almost before he realizes what's happening, a swarm of pure white butterflies rush over and through the stunned wolf. As they soar around and back into Cal, the wolf drops limp on to the ground.

"...how do I do that again?"

The adventures of THE GUY continued onward. The largest portion of this adventure consisted of a marathon-like jog throughout an endless tunnel, as if one tunnel were simply repeating endlessly in an attempt to throw THE GUY off of his track. Unfortunately, his stamina limitless, THE GUY just ran past the stupidly long corridor in a way that probably hadn't been intended by the designers of this spiteful dungeon.

Not intended for normal people, that is... But Terrasphere had clearly come prepared for him. There was a small little room, a rectangular room with a sign that said (Tutorial). On a table there was a potion of vigor, as well as a little note.

[Take a drink, friend! You earned it. As you can see, the Dynamism skill tree allows one to move faster than other people in the game. You can use this to find secrets, among many other things! Speed is important on the battlefield.]

THE GUY had one thing to wonder as he chugged the HP potion down.

"What is Dynamism supposed to be?"

"Where have you brought me now, Thread of Fate?"

Pollux stood now in front of a large arched entrance, with stairs leading into the depths. Soon after appearing in this world, a small thread had appeared before her. Following its path led Pollux along a river and then past some important looking stones, until she ended up... here, where the yarn leading her along suddenly disappeared.

[Welcome to Travelers Gate]

Maybe it's some sort of tutorial dungeon, a good opportunity to try out some of these skills.

As Pollux descended into the Travelers Gates, she ended up walking for quite a while with nothing of particular interest to happen. She was able to call upon some premonitions at intersections to guide her way, although they were not exactly the clearest. Which hallway would you rather pick? The sound of flowing water? The sound of dripping water?

There was a nice stone bridge over the little stream.

As Darko continued to trudge through the straight path, as he as Miroslav always did in the past before he entered the world of stock trading, when he stumbled into a room with something glowing inside. He then peered inside to see what it was and deciding on himself first if it was a trap or not. After all, such a magitech terminal in that area meant that he was facing either a player-made contraption or something from the civilization that destroyed Vintergard. But he then focused his right eye on the terminal, and the screen read, "WELCOME TO TERRASPHERE! Tap here for more tips on how to play."

So, it was a system-made terminal, much more a tutorial guide that seemed to stray from its world. Naturally, Darko was anxious to tap it, but maybe it should be something that he should know. Eventually, the desire to know eventually surpassed the desire to be cautious, and so he tapped the terminal.

The guide was about combining two or more masteries in a single spell, and while it should be useful for beginners, it was useless for veterans like him. Sighing at the lost time he spent on perusing the terminal, he then continued on the other path from where the terminal floated.

"It is good to meet you, Ilya!" Bluebird smiles, then flits her wings as Cain's voice echoes through the cave. She's not used to this... 'magic', but such a thing seemed like it must be some kind of magic. Nonetheless, it sounds like this 'Cain' is offering to help them, and so she remembers the name. Hopefully he'll hear her call-

She squeaks as the wolf appears, instinctively calling swing to carry her away from the wolf's snapping jaws. Moments later Ilya strikes, and she looks down at the unmoving corpse with a frown. "That was... quite surprising! You seem quite experienced." She seems... oddly unbothered by it? But this is a game, so maybe it's not so odd.

She passes the wolf and trots ahead with a hum that leaves the taste of magic in the air. "I'm new to this world, but... my understanding is that I can weave magic by way of song." She's looking for something, heedless of the fact that her path is leading them further into the halls. "Songs that call the heart, the wind, or the power of the stars themselves." It's as if something is singing back to her, and if she can just find it...

...and there it is! Glinting amidst a patch of moss is a necklace set with a glittering stone. She bends down to pick it up, then holds it out for Ilya to see. "Ah, look! I've found something. Isn't it pretty?"

"Traveler's Gate, huh-" Hanno frowned, crossing his arms while looking at the entrance, knocking it slightly before taking a glance around. There were plenty of other players around there, especially new ones, so it may be a good idea to keep an eye out for them.

Adjusting his colossal shield on his back, Hanno marched deeper into the dungeon that honestly, looked much more simple than he expected. Perhaps that was actually a beginner's dungeon. Maybe he was worried for no reason, maybe he was-

"FFFFUCK!" He yelled, rolling on the floor and wrestling with a wolf, "God. Damn. It." Hanno gritted his teeth feeling the fangs of the beast sinking on his arm, for Rhiannon's sake how that was even possible? He was wearing a plate armor, that shouldn't even be possible!

After finally squeezing the wolf's throat enough to make it faint, Hanno breathed heavily and looked down at it, gasping for air and sighing. "That... Wow... Okay, four years of break sure made me rusty." He cracked his shoulder, letting out a sigh until suddenly a kind girl gave him something shiny. "Oh! Thank you, m'lady!" He grinned, cheerful at the kindness of the stranger. What was that shiny thing? He didn't know, but it was cute and he was going to keep it.
