Pormont - Emerald Fields Farm

"I-I am tellin' ye, that ain't good news. N-No one believe in me, but there is a cryin' goin' in there, some weird noises... Even meh wee hens can't deal with it!" The man sighed, rubbing his temple and forehead. "Please, ye gotta help me out-!"

It almost seemed like destiny had heard their necessities.

Ruby was traveling along with Kyra, who had just taken her brand new scythe, and revealed her determination of becoming someone akin to the Grim Reaper. One that would guide the souls to their right path, one that would help others, not only those who were alive, but also those who had been long gone.

Honestly, that made the Crimson Cat admire her even more than she already did, on top of being something that Ruby herself had as objective.

Albeit she was leaning a bit more into the avenging side, which was still good, since they could complement each other.

With the words of that troubled farmer, Ruby and Kyra were making their way to the farm, now abandoned for a whole week since the strange noises pretty much expelled the man from his own lands.

"... Ready?" Ruby asked, casting a glance to Kyra, smiling at her warmly.

The farm. It looked so much like another she had visited once. Kyra could only hope that this one wouldn't be, well, the same. She nodded towards Ruby as the other questioned her, the new scythe in her hand swinging comfortably as she tested the piece out. She wasn't entirely sure if she was used to the new two-handed requirement quite yet, but it was certainly more...fitting, somehow.

Ready...yeah. I think so.

She shifted her weight again, the new armour still feeling unsettled somehow. Almost over the top, in a way. Not that she was against it - she loved the look, the presence it gave off, albeit slightly afar from her typical Reaper perception. Still, it protected her better than her previous sets, and gave off the afterlife vibe she was reaching for, if distantly.

The place looks...welcoming, at least. Hopefully they've got a pot of coffee, or tea, or something on. Maybe some hot chocci.

She shot a grin towards Ruby, before beginning the climb down towards the farm itself. If the rumours and stories they'd heard were true, the place should be empty - abandoned at the first sign of, well...sound. One can only hope...

Ruby looked at Kyra for a moment, having an 'are you serious?' expression on her face before giggling and nudging her gently. "Right, the only thing that will happen is whatever is in there trying to possess us." Ruby said, swaying her tails and approaching the area carefully, having her sword harmless laying in the sheath.

She really didn't want to startle whatever was in there, and she had Kyra with her, so she truly didn't need to worry about staying too much on fighting stance until the fight actually happened.

With the farm building drawing near, Ruby's ears twitched. "It is a recent haunting, going from what the man said, so we should have plenty of fresh hints." Ruby guessed, with her eyes flickering in a negative glow, scowling.

"Yeah, this place... The presence is strong here, but I am unsure of its intention, or if it is docile or hostile." Ruby crossed her arms, glancing to Kyra and wondering what she thought of it.

Kyra pretended to pout slightly in response to Ruby's reaction to her jest. Not that she was truly upset by any means, but she felt that the joke had been a good one.

I'd prefer hot chocci over possession...

She mumbled the response, turning her gaze back towards the farm itself as Ruby tried to draw her attention to it. The place looked peaceful, in a dark and foreboding way. Everything screamed wrong when Kyra looked at the place, the general atmosphere something that you'd expect of a horror film.

Recent...this place gives off major haunting vibes. Why don't we ever go someplace nice, like the beach?

A quick blink, and she'd managed to activate the soul lines that her spirit magic provided her with. There were signs of numerous lines, some more translucent than others, some stronger and wider. She could see Ruby and her own, connecting between them, but the others seemed to flow on the air, no destination in either direction of the line.

There's a lot here...at least three other possible...souls.

She'd almost said living things, before remembering that the soul didn't necessarily need to be alive. She shifted on her feet, giving her scythe a twirl behind her; her new nervous twitch. The weapon seemed to slice the air silently, barely making a whisper as it was handled.

All of the lines lead directly into the house...whatever it is, it's in there. Somewhere...

Her voice gave way to the obvious - she was worried. Not because of what was in there, but because of what they didn't know. Hauntings...something she'd never considered her line of work would pertain towards. Just...be careful. Possession could really be a thing - and problematic - here...

"Anyone would-" Ruby said, pausing for a moment and tilting her head, reminding herself the world had billions and billions of people, and that the Internet had proven nothing is impossible.

"... Most would." She corrected herself, with a small scowl.

"It truly does bring a haunted tone, but... Well, if you ever want to go to a beach, we sure can go for it." Ruby looked at Kyra with a small smile, nudging closely. "I wouldn't mind having an eye candy like that day..." Her tail swayed, brushing on Kyra's before she leaned away, marching toward the farm's house.

As the other girl well observed, the place didn't seem to be abandoned. It just looked empty, as if someone had escaped from it very recently, something that matched with the man's story regarding suddenly everything acting up weird on the farm.

"Three, huh... If there are this many, we need to be careful." Ruby said, muttering quietly as she moved closer to the farmhouse.

Whoever got there first, would soon listen to cursed and echoing noises, that almost sounded like groans and moanings, followed by a scared voice, that also echoed but at the very least sounded more human. And upon further investigation, one would quickly see the two red incorporeal figures, both surrounding one slightly translucid, and snow pale spirit, being corned in the bedroom, apparently being caught in a matter of a minute ago.

Blood Specter 2
❰ 400 / 400 ❱

Action: None.

Blood Specter does one of these four actions, all doing Hemomancy Damage:

1. Corruption - It phases through the target, sending them to a random adjacent square (roll 1d8 to decide) and dealing 30 damage. The target must make a DC 70 Fortitude Save to avoid receiving 1 Stack of Bloody Corruption, turning the damaged area into slime-ish blood surface. The Bloody Corruption is ceased after the Blood Scepters are gone. Each stack gives you a -10 penalty on action rolls, and 5 Stacks of Bloody Corruption turn you into a Blood Corrupter, a strange scarlet-colored slime that always follows the nearest enemy and deals 10 damage, applying 1 Stack of Bloody Corruption in a failed DC 50 Fortitude Save.

2. Scarlet Drain - It drains the blood and energy of the target, dealing 2d20 damage to one target, and healing by the same amount.

3. Great Sacrifice - It deals itself 35 damage, and in exchange, it deals 70 damage to a target. If the sacrifice sends it to 0 HP, it will explode instead, dealing 100 damage to all adjacent enemies, or half of it if successful in a DC 70 Reflex Save.

4. Bloodied Soul - It damages one's soul and vitality. The target must make a DC 70 Will Save to avoid losing 20% of Maximum HP, receiving damage of the same amount.

Bloody Scepters are immune to damage from Hemomancy and all non-magical Masteries.

Kyra had started to open her mouth to retaliate to the eye candy comment, when Ruby simply skipped away, leaving the purple haired woman behind to huff to herself. As she slowly caught up to the cat girl, her face covered in a fake scowl, she considered retorting belatedly, before her attention was drawn to the house.

Inside, the creatures were clearly visible. Kyra's gaze lingered on the scene for mere seconds, before she was moving into action. She called back over her shoulder as she rushed forward, bringing her hands together to hold her scythe outwards before her, the blade held towards the ground in preparation to swing it upwards and outwards.

May you return to whatever level of the nine hells you strode from...and find peace everlasting in your slumber.

A sudden crackling sound as Kyra snapped her tail, creating a burst of energy beside herself, before snapping her tail again. A single bolt of lightning slammed into the creature on her left, a smaller bolt jumping to the second as she growled in defiance.

Come...come and find peace everlasting.

As they neared in, the strikes of the purple-haired vixen struck the first Scepter, which groaned in an echoing rage, enough to chill anyone who was unprepared for it before leaping toward the reaper girl, vengeful and in hatred.

"Kyra!" Ruby called, gritting her teeth at the Scepter that was attacking her dear friend. Unfortunately, her only defensive abilities were blood magic, something that seemed clearly ineffective to creatures that materialized in form of such power.

"Let's end this quick-" She said, swiftly disappearing in an explosive speed, making a sharp Z movement across the building, trying to build as much momentum as she could before she threw herself forward toward the second Scepter, that still lingered at the end of the room, near the pale ghost that was surprised by the sudden appearance of the women.

❰ Rapid Blade - X Strike ❱

In a quick maneuver, Ruby threw a downward diagonal slash, already combining it with a second slash upward, that flickered the incorporeal shape of the creature with her speed magic.

The creature shrieked, trying to seek for Ruby's soul in a counterattack.

"A-Ah... Be careful!" The pale one tried to warn both of them.

Ruby, however, was fast to avoid the incoming attack, deflecting it with her blade brimming with spiritual power from many that she saw falling, that quickly went for her aid in a protective manner.

The sudden lightheaded feeling came over Kyra as she had turned to see Ruby coming up beside her. Her eyes seemed to waver for a brief second, before everything began to spin slightly. She spun, finding the creature she had just attacked linked to her, through a line of blood. Hemo...mancy...

She felt her skin crawl as her mind confirmed what was drawing her energy, the sudden realisation making her mind snap back to that camp in the woods, for a brief moment.

No...no no no...no I won't!

A quick snap of her tail, followed by three secondary snaps released a burst of energy that seemed to erupt and snap into the spectres, the bolts jumping from one to the next almost naturally. Kyra felt herself stumble backwards slightly, her tail still snapping, sending more and more bolts towards the things.

Panic driven, she found herself screaming in response to the realisation of what they were facing - what they were. It's coming back to haunt me...to remind me...I won't let it! I won't! I won't! I won't!

With Kyra's enraged attack, Ruby's ears twitched for a moment, widening her eyes when noticing the vixen going into a flurry of attacks, with bolts flying like a barrage against the evil spirits and sending one to the realm it belonged.

Ruby frowned, noticing the panic coming from the girl, which would probably only widen when the remaining Blood scepter went all out on her, with an undead rage that came from the depths of the abyss it came from.

Her fist clenched around her blade. "GET OFF HER!" Ruby roared, leaping backward and darting off in a circular movement, lifting her run to the walls and turning around the creature to distract it before kicking the wall and propelling herself toward the enemy, with her Jian brimming with the spirits it held in the stars framed into its night blade.

❰ Rapid Blade - Dance of Berserker ❱

A sequence of blurs rapidly slashed and diced the spirit, deforming it severely as it crumbled to the wounds caused by Kyra's bolts and Ruby's speed and spirit magic, finishing it off with a swirl that momentarily turned her into a deadly tornado.

Halted, and with the enemies gone, Ruby breathed once before rushing to Kyra, worriedly. "Kyra? Kyra, are you alright?" She asked, with her ears quickly perking up at the reminder something was still there.

Quickly, she turned around, placing her blade in a protective stance in front of the vixen.

The pale ghost, startled, shook its head and waved its hands. "W-Wait, I'm not here to hurt anyone... I swear-".

Kyra's breathing was coming in hard; harder than normal, even with the release of energy that it had taken to create the numerous bolts of lightning. She could hear the mantra repeating in her head, the almost crazed sensation that it was causing for her. Behind her shoulder, the Orb seemed to pulse with a soft purple glimmer.

Don't worry...it can't hurt you...neither of you...Reap from it what little remains...

Kyra shook herself, disturbed by the words of the Orb, but the meaning behind it sinking in to her mind. She had nothing to fear, not while Ruby was with her. Not while she could still fight.

I'm...I'm okay...I think...

She shook her head again, shaking away the feeling that had been left behind. She wanted to forget the camp, to move on from it. But it still seemed to haunt her, no matter what she did. Time will heal all wounds, so they say...

Why are you here...? Why haven't you moved onto the Path? And what were those...things?

She waved a hand towards where the blood spectres had been mere moments before, as if trying to point at their remains, even if there was nothing left. She still felt shaken, but attempted to put on a façade of returned mental awareness, hoping that she would simply fall into her normal self by pretending.

Lowering her stance slightly at the words of the Orb and the Ghost, shifting her attention to the vixen, albeit keeping the stranger within her side vision.

Kyra's words weren't really convincing, bringing another worried glint into her eyes, as she rested a hand on her shoulder, muttering a quiet and soothing song, that spread across her body, sewing wounds and numbing the pains she would have.

The Primal Aura tried to reach her.

You are stronger than it.

It said.

And then, her eyes returned to the startled Ghost, with the grip of her sword tightening. "And who do you are?" Ruby added, with a fierce and focused gaze on the ghost, staying close to Kyra.

The waving hands of the Ghost slowed, resting on its chest as it leaned slightly closer. "Those things? I don't know, I've been running away from them for days now, they wanted to devour me, I think... But both of you, you saved my life!" The Ghost said, relieved and grateful.

"... Path..?" It muttered, tilting its head at Kyra, and then looking at Ruby. "I am... I don't know. I just... I was running away, and..." It frowned.

"Wh-Who am I?" It panicked for a moment, seeming to not realize who it was after being busy by days of adrenaline and chase.

Kyra rested a hand against Ruby's side, taking comfort in the presence of the cat girl. She still felt unsettled by the spectres that had brought about the memories of the camp, and she knew - somehow - that Ruby was still worried about her.

Doesn't seem to know who they are...or why they're here...

Kyra whispered towards Ruby, using her own Aura to send back an emotion of comfort and happiness, with a twinge of something less appropriate attached. She glanced overly the ghostly figure, not surprised that they weren't familiar with her terminology, but certainly off-put by the fact that they seemed so...lost.

You said you think they were chasing you...why did you think that? Why do you think anything can chase you, at all?

She kept her words light, trying not to spook the ghostly figure. She wanted answers, not a ghost that was suddenly terrorised by the fact that they were lost, wandering the world...Does she know she's dead? The question popped into Kyra's mind suddenly, and she had to resist blurting it aloud, knowing that it wasn't the right time yet.

She glanced over at Ruby, tilting her head slightly at the ghost, and sending a questioning Aura. Behind her, her tail seemed to twitch ever so slightly, a sign of her discomfort with the situation.

Ruby's tails gently entangled on Kyra's upon the Aura response, giving another sign of reassurance, of being there. The use of the tail left her hands free to be used in case anything dangerous happened- There was still a hint of suspicion. The whole deal seemed strange and unusual, which rose even more red flags for the crimson cat, that lingered her sight on the Ghost.

"Those things did seem dangerous-" Ruby admitted this much, noticing the moment of existential crisis. A quick glance at Kyra made it clear that the intention of the girl was to not tell it yet, so Ruby respected it, even if she disagreed.

The questioning Aura tickled Ruby, trying to urge her for some action.

"It doesn't seem like you remember anything... You don't even remember where you came from? You didn't just sparkled a consciousness while being chased, did you?" Ruby asked.

The Ghost rubbed its neck, looking at Kyra with a slight frown. "D-Didn't you see those things? They were spirits, evil ones at it. They were clearly chasing me-" It held a hand on its chest.

"Maybe... It wanted my soul." It swallowed, lowering its gaze to Ruby.

"I... Don't remember anything... All I know is that I've been running from the South."

South. Well, that was something to start with, at least. Kyra glanced out towards the world beyond the window beside her, trying to determine exactly which way south was, before giving up. It wasn't that important, not yet at least. Better off to figure out why, before they worried about where.

South...so you were headed north? What were you going north for? Was there something you were hoping to find? Someone you were hoping to see, perhaps? Maybe a final message you wanted to pass on?

She inched closer to the ghostly figure as she spoke, confident now that it meant no harm. Her scythe still held at the ready behind her, but her right hand held out before her, palm upwards as if to offer a sign that she was no harm to the ghostly figure.

I know you don't remember much of anything...but can you give us some idea as to why you're in this place; aside from the others who were chasing you, that is. Perhaps you have a purpose...something holding you here, that we can help you with.

She tried not to push too hard, not wanting to upset the spectre. The last thing Kyra wanted to do was to have to chase it down. Or worse. Maybe we can help this one...to truly find peace at the end of all this. As a Reaper should.

It was a complicated matter. The situation was so tough, that the spirit not only had no memories, but it was also locked onto the mortal realm for some regret... That they didn't even remember.

Ruby crossed her arms, puzzled and listening to the barrage of questions Kyra sent to the Ghost, leaving nothing else for her to ask.

She hoped at least one of those questions would come with a solid answer, otherwise...

"Pass on... What are you..?" It muttered, slowing down its tone until it realized the implication, and everything connected.

It looked down its hands, shimmering with an eerie glow.

"I... I see..." It closed its fists, somehow being far more shocked at the lack of memories than the reveal of its death. "... As far as I know, I only know I was running from those things. My furthest memories are me running from the South."

Kyra resisted the urge to sigh aloud, instead turning to whisper in Ruby's ear. They didn't have a lot to go on, and the answers that she was getting were, limited. At her shoulder, she could feel the Orb humming - although if it was excitement, anticipation, or some other emotion, Kyra couldn't quite tell.

Not a lot to go on...South...any ideas?

From her shoulder, the Orb suddenly spoke up, its whispers as spine chilling as ever. Kyra listened to it with half an ear, careful not to take too much from what it said - it gave good advice, sometimes, but somehow she felt like it had ulterior motives. Or maybe you're imagining things...because of what Ash said.

Perhaps it comes...from a direction that we cannot see...in this world...it does not appear...to be from this existence, does it not?

Kyra's ears twitched in response to the Orb's voice, her expression thoughtful. The thing was certainly creepy in many ways, but Kyra found that it provided insight, even if she didn't fully trust that insight.

That's...not a bad point. Where is this south? Might be worth asking if there's some identifying details she can give us? Something more to go on? At least then we'll have a...place...to start, maybe?

"Really, nothing much..." Ruby crossed her arms and sighed, just as frustrated as Kyra. "South... South..." Ruby tapped her feet, looking up at the sky to see the brimming sun, eyes trailing at the horizon to try and understand where the Ghost could've come from.

She glanced at the Orb, frowning slightly at the words, and then looking at Kyra.

"Seems like your spherical friend has a few ideas." She pointed out. "But if that Ghost can give us some information..." Ruby turned to look at the Ghost- "Say, where did the place you first remember running from looked like?" Ruby asked.

The Ghost seemed to bend in, wishing to listen what the two were whispering to each other. But with Ruby's sudden attention, it became startled. "How it... Looked like?" It frowned, pausing and tilting its head as it tried to snatch information from its memories.

"... I don't... Remember how it looks. But I do remember the sound of water." It said, blinking and looking at both of them. "Water, like... Waves."

Water. Waves. Kyra glanced over at Ruby, trying to figure out what that could possibly lead them towards. She wasn't entirely familiar with the whole area, but she was aware that there were a number of lakes...somewhere. And this is why you're not a Whistle...yet.

Thoughts? Perhaps a nearby lake, or maybe ocean...? Doubt it's a river, if there's waves.

She glanced back at the ghostly figure, trying to size up their apparel. Nothing about their outfit gave Kyra any clues as to the where they might come from, the piece about as standard as one would expect from any of the Landers that lived in TerraSphere.

Water...hope this isn't a drowning victim...She shook away the thought, moving over to the window and looking towards the horizon. At least they had something to start with, even if it wasn't much.

Why don't we take our friend for a little walk...see if we can't find something that looks, or feels familiar to them? More useful than standing around here playing guessing games, at least.

She drifted towards the doorway, careful to keep her scythe behind her as she moved. She was still amazed at how quickly she'd become used to the overbearing weapon - something she'd worried about when she first chose it.

Coming? It sounds like a lovely, warm and welcoming beach awaits us. I hope.

"South... Waves..." Ruby paused to ponder about it, having a handful of ideas of what it could be until Kyra slipped some suggestions, making the crimson cat turn her attention to the vixen and nod. "Actually, I think we will go through some beach." She said, letting the information sink in before adding:

"South, waves... And using the reference of where we are. Our friend here is probably talking about Ilmea's Lament." She said, revealing her guess considering their geographical location, before turning to look at the Ghost and shaking her head. "Of course, you can't really remember it, but it is the best guess we can have." Ruby said, starting to walk near Kyra again, and gesturing the Ghost to follow.

"... This said though..." Ruby glanced at the Ghost. "We can't keep calling you 'ghost' or 'you', right? How about Xue?" Ruby suggested, smiling. "You are white like the snow, so I think it is fitting. What do you think?"

The Ghost was mostly puzzled, listening to the girls guesses of where it could've been running, and hurrying to not lose Kyra's pace when she asked if it was coming with them. "I-I will, please don't leave me alone." It said, worried about the ghastly creatures that were chasing it earlier.

"Uhm..? Xue?" It blinked, looking between Kyra and Ruby. "I... I don't know?"

Kyra couldn't help but smile at the idea - all things considered, the beach did sound nice. Although she'd never expected to head there with a ghost in tow. Or a purpose beyond simply relaxing and enjoying the water's edge. Tis the life...no relaxation for the Reaper. All work, no play.

Xue...I think you'll find it fits better than 'hey ghost', or 'hey you'. So, Xue, ready to get going? Let's go figure out whom you are, and why you're still hanging around here - and hopefully find you some resolution so you can truly rest.

She turned away from the window, glancing over at the ghostly figure - Xue - with a smile. She wasn't entirely sure what she had expected when they'd taken this job to begin with, but traipsing around a beach was not it.

Assuming there's no complaints from my fussy feline friend here...I know how much she loves the sand getting all up in her clothing.

She threw a wicked grin at Ruby as she jested the girl, unable to resist in the moment. She'd never heard Ruby complain about sand, but Kyra felt like she couldn't pass up the opportunity to poke at the catgirl just a little bit.
