The dark-haired youth felt a loud thumping in his chest as he laid on his bed, which took up almost a fifth of his tiny apartment. Central Boston wasn't known for affordable and spacious apartments after all. Regardless, all of Kiriya's spatial limitation was about to be a nonissue as he was standing, well, lying at the precipice of the new world.

All he could see, however, were menus upon menus of different settings and options that were far more expansive than what a normal VR gear consumer would see. The adapter itself was a sleek white with a very modern design, given to him by Nexus' HR that morning. Though, he hasn't been able to open the package until he got home because of the startup regimen that all new hires have to go through. And the training videos, dear god, the lengthy and deathly boring videos, which took him around 4 hours to complete, while in the presence of an HR personnel. By the end of his 8-hours shift, he felt like he was ready to jump out of the window across from his training room, which was only 50-stories high. It would have been a swifter death than having to watch other hour of company philosophy and work-life mindset.

Kiriya tried his hardest to bury the catchy intro tune that played at the beginning of each training videos as he zipped through the UI, calibrating all of the settings to give himself the best experience in game. Once the VR adapter was ready, a grin came to the youth's face as he started the new world, letting his eyes shut as he dove.

Appearance: Default
Race: Human
Trait: Discovery-mode
Mastery Selection: SWORD

[ Start ]

The next time he opened his eyes, a horrified grin docked Kiriya's face as he descended the night sky at immense speed. He had never felt anything like it before, the ultra-realistic sensation of falling.

I-incredible, is this the Terrasphere people often talk about? Is this really a game? He thought to himself.

When he looked down, Kiriya saw miles of forests beneath his feet. Was that where he was going to fall to and begin his new life?

It couldn't have been that simple... For, the space around him ruptured as astral slits appeared where he was, suctioning him into the narrow opening where it felt as though the youth stretched endlessly until it ejected his body out of thin air.

He was in Tertus Valley.

"Argh!" Kiriya fought against the force that violently hurled his body down toward a mountain. Without footing, however, he was merely a physics ragdoll going through the motion as momentum dictated.

BOOM!

Kiriya crashed into the side of the mountain, kicking up a cloud of dust in the process. When the veil of dust cleared, the youth stood up, seemingly unscathed thanks to the brief few seconds of invulnerability he got the moment he entered the game. The status, however, was flashing rapidly, warning him of its expiration as terrible screeches pierced the clouds above. Ascent Reaper.

The swordless swordsman narrowed his eyes at the bunch of Reapers heading right for him.

"Hah... So that's how this shit game is going to play, huh?"

He was fucked.

She couldn't run any faster because her body didn't allow her to...

The knightess had a strange feeling warp around her, a chill ran down every inch of her body, yet her senses didn't scream danger for no more than an instant. There had been no threats nearby, and nothing struck her down so it had to be a false alarm, perhaps paranoia had begun to take over her mind finally.

But no, lo and behold among the skies is yet a new player, a new starcalled reaching into their world. It wouldn't be such a horrifying sight, were this person actually falling in the place they were meant to be. Checking around her, it all rang true that she is still in Tertus Valley, and a quick glance to her ui map only revealed the same piece of info. Yet acting came before questioning, and she chased after this newcomer once their trajectory inevitably lead towards the mountain.Someone forgot how to steer their meteor wheel evidently.

Sweat ran down her forehead as the loud clanking of plated armor followed her approach at top speed. Of course, these scavengers had found an easy prey in a newbie, an easy first death experience for them. Unarmed, unprotected, there was little hope of survival on their own.

"Catch!" Fiora shouted, pulling out her sword and it's black, worn outsheathe out from her waist, throwing it forth with as much strength as she could to let it soar through the air in direction to the newcomer himself. Ironic how Last Hope would be his first, if he could catch it in the first place.

A sword for a swordless swordsman.

The Reapers found their attention split at the ruckus, it gave enough time for the elven knight to lunge forth with one herculean jump and slam her shield's edge against one of the flying menaces, slamming it straight against the now cracked floor, matching with it's broken bones, pivoting to take a defensive stance with one empty hand and a shield alone.

"I really hope you picked Slash, buddy. Or this is gonna be real awkward." She glanced back at him, almost hopeful this were the case, because she ain't packing more weapons right now, left all on Gardibook right now.

Ascent Reapers.

Birds that had evolved in ways that other avians did not. Unnatural and exotic to behold as they silently hunt and bring about your demise before you can blink. Or that would be the case if they hadn't been so damn hungry to make a huge racket and give themselves away.

Plop plop plop... Their strange multi-winged bodies hit the earth, but not in attack, not in ravenous hunger.

They just dropped dead, each riddled with dimly glowing wounds.

"They were so hungry..."

Magi Heart stood next to the bird pile and lifted one's elongated neck in her hands. It started to decay rapidly she gave it a small pat on the beak before the beak too began to degenerate.

"There, no more hunger for you. Hmmm? I wonder if they had any eggs that will be lonely now... oh? Hello!"

Wendel looked to the two others as if just now realizing they were there. A good introduction mattered for her so she took to her Magi Heart stance, hand to hip, and two-fingered salute with a wide enthusiastic smile!

Or something like that. Wendel's smile and eyes never really accomplished the right look but she did this anyway. It was in her instinct to do what the girl she once was did. Just in her own way.

Noticing she had dropped the now half a bird. She thought to pick it back up and then move on to the rest. That was not the best idea now though. Coming off too natural (to her) around others in Tertoria always went poorly so she resisted the urge to finish up here.

"I, umm... just wanted to make sure they were dead *giggle*!

She spoke slower to try and avoid her vocal distortions that she never was aware of until recently. Once she knew about them she started to figure out why her hero day job wasn't convincing to everyone she met.

Heterochromatic eyes stared at @Fiora Di Angelo for a moment. Magi's face not showing just how much she was sizing up the woman. Then just nodded and went over to the injured-looking raven-haired person.

"...Hi there! I'm Magi heart your local Starcalled Savior. Or you can just call me Wendel. Any of those are cool beans!".

She looked at @Kirios as if trying to see if he was injured anywhere. Neither of them seemed to be Landers to her but if they were it would be dangerous to interact with them in this place. If not, she wondered why a Starcalled this pitiful looking was here of all places. Just crossing the High March would be enough to keep many fresh players away from here.

Kiriya felt as though his heart was going to beat out of his chest when he saw the trio of Jurassic birds heading directly for him and that his first foray into the death game would end in, well, death. However, right at that moment, a sword flew in the youth's direction and ended up stabbed into the ground in front of his feet. When he looked up, a hooded woman in heavy armor rushed ahead to intercept the diving birds with deadly fury outright demolishing one among the three.

Looking down at the expensive blade, Kiriya calmly walked over and attempted to pick it up. It was heavy enough that he could not fully unstick it from the ground. And, so Kiriya did the next best thing and put both of his hands on the pommel and directed his steely gaze at the opportunistic predator, his ragged tunic, barely covering the mid of his thighs fluttered heroically in the cold October winds.

"O pitiful creatures who are seeking food in the worst of places, beholden the bastion that stands before the shadow and suffer her wrath!" Kiriya, no, Kirius let his naked arm outstretched as he gestured a gripping motion at the reapers.

Seconds after he did so, the girl cosplaying a magical girl suddenly flew past him and dusted the remaining beasts. The sight made Kirius bring his previously outstretched arm back to his body as he crossed it with the other.

"And thus, the curtain closes on the fools who dare challenge the shadow that walks alongside darkness. Rest in peace, knowing that your soul will be welcomed into its fold."

When the breezes came back around and warned him of his under-dressed state, Kirius snapped out of his moment with the realization that he had completely screwed up. He can't just recite those kinds of lines looking as bare as he did. But, it was far too late to take everything back. He would need to devote every minute of his waking to training if he wanted to become the hero he had always aspired to be.

"Ah, uh, ladies. Thank you for the help, I thought I was a goner there for a second. Judging by your equipment, I'm guessing that at least one of you is a player and that I'm not at a place where newbies are supposed to be… am I?" the raven-haired youth asked.

"Where might I have been displaced if not the newbie area? Also… do either of you have an extra coat? It's freaking chilly here. Accchoo!" his line was cut short by a sneeze.

Fiora had to give him credit. This is a death game, they are surrounded, and while he can't even lift the blade out of the ground as if the sword in the stone rejected yet another aspirant to the throne, he kept his cool and flaunted about with heroism that should betray the logical and sane. Or perhaps he simply is the confident sort, bravery billowing alongside his starter Starcalled tunic.

Eitherway, it had her snort to herself, making it difficult to keep a serious face when the airborne threats prepare to come down upon them, yet all the more poised in her stance to face them. At least until they all simply collapsed, with the culprit showing up before the knightess could even question if the raven-haired boy was the culprit with no more than a glance over her shoulder.

A magical girl out of the oldest of mangas, posing just like one, but her first few reactions and excuses gave her the uncanny sensations all down her spine. Like these ancient creepypastas from twenty or so years ago.

"Riiight, planning to do reaper omelettes I bet." Fiora's eyes squinted for a moment, but it was easier to pass it by as general awkwardness from this pink haired menace, who stared her for far longer than she felt comfortable with, right until their savior introduced herself, and felt inclined to mimic the gesture. "Fiora. I suppose you don't know why he fell here at all? First time I've seen a newbie drop around Tertus." Opening her palm menu, she quickly fidgeted with her inventory before her shield simply puffed out of existence, pixel by pixel, sent straight into it's vacuum.

"Tertus Valley." Fiora turned around, the corner of her gray eyes still caught upon Magi, yet finally met Kirius's as the man sneezed. "Home to angry birds and monsters from the depths of hell itself, better known as dissonance." She continued, at the same pace she unclipped her ragged cloak & hood combo and wrapped it around his shoulders, making it easier to notice the flowing silver hairs that reached down to her calves.

"It's a freak show around here, and not one you should be around early in the game. So, mind explainin' how you managed to fuck up the auto-pilot?" With one click! The cloak was set in place and Fiora stepped to the side to get a better view of both, a hand hanging down lazily on her side while the other pressed rested at her waistline.

When the man in his whities sneezed, and mentioned it being cold, Wendel looked confused for a moment. Tertus Valley was a few things but the cold wasn't one of them. Then again, Wendel hadn't felt temperatures quite the same in years. Maybe it was cold and it was just her?

He's um... almost naked.

The small bit of her old self recalled that to be something to consider

The large and heavily armored woman gave her name and made a comment that made Wendel smirk. Oh if she only knew how freaky stuff can get. Fiora did look more experienced than a lot of people the Dark Heart encountered though.

As for the guy who recited all those cringy anti-hero lines. Wendel hypocritically hated that sort of thing. When she did it was an instinct but when others did this dumb crap? It just screamed "Wendy roleplaying" to her and it brought forth the urge to strangle them. He also happened to look close to her in age. Young men were not common encounters for Dissonant Magi so seeing a boy doing this sort of thing was even more strange.

"Eh? Gee whiz... *giggle* you mean he just got here?"

Magi kept her thoughts to herself. Not being interested in drawing a certain type of individual in these parts, Magi powered down. Fiddling with a hair ribbon Wendel would remember something.

"Hmmm, I ended up here too after some stuff happened. I guess this place is just like that."

Letting go of the ribbon she stiffened a little when she heard @Fiora Di Angelo mention dissonance. It was never her intention to just go around telling people what she was so when someone showed knowledge of it. She had to become more careful. At the same time, she also wanted to know more about it. Maybe this armored lady would be a source of information.

Doubtful.

"Dissonance? Uhhh it's usually really dangerous. But um... I think there's worse than that out there. Don't judge stuff you don't understand, Magi Heart says!"

Not spending another second on that Wendel focused back on @Kirius. She pointed towards the distant jagged hole that stretched into the horizon. Naryu Canyon would be quite a walk just to get to and then there's the bridge...

"You need a travel friend for the way back? I don't like this place so I'm going that way. Want to come? I'm a Magical Girl for hire and you have my promise that you'll never get better help *giggle*."

This guy would probably be so easy to get some grief out of. She couldn't wait to watch him trip over himself over and over. That was worth having him around on a boring trip over the Silvergate.

Kirius followed the conversation between the two women closely, committing all of the newly-acquired information as he compared it to what he had already known about the game from hundreds of hours of deep-net research.

"Hmm... I haven't read up on dissonance yet, but it definitely sounds like bad news if both of you vets are avoiding it," the raven-haired youth spoke while looking toward the direction Astorea, not fully realizing how far of a walk he was from the Starcalled's homeland.

When the elf beckoned him, he turned and answered, "I was in the middle of falling out of the sky when some kind of astral rupture opened up and sucked me in and dumped me here. I'm not sure what that was about, but from how you two sounded, it doesn't seem like the typical game event, does it."

While the two ladies were throwing one another weird glares, Kirius balled and released his fist to open his palm menu before he quickly blasted through the options turning off both his pain limiter and auto-combat before he checked out his initial stats, which was nothing more than E-ranked Slash.

He turned toward Magi.

Ah, hey, instead of heading back right away, can we power level here? It should be okay as long as we avoid Dissonance, right? Not many newbies are so lucky as to spawn in a high-level area, so it would be a shame not to take advantage of this opportunity. I still have 2 lives left before the UI lock anyway; a single death for a super headstart doesn't sound like a bad trade to me. I need to become as powerful as possible.

Was she just seeing things? No, it just couldn't be, but with what she has seen and experienced around these lands, it didn't seem so off. Riddled by uncertainty with Magi's answer, she didn't saw the raven boy fall from the skies like any other newcomer, and the vagueness in her answer made it sound like they were all going crazy.

The fact she brought down all the remaining reapers in a blink of an eye- Not even her sword could have cut them down that fast. It's clear whose rightfully called a veteran here, but what got her attention drop on her had to what 'Magi Heart says'.

"That's the problem. Nobody knows a thing about Dissonance, besides how it fucks up with the UI." Inquisitive, and yet her gut told her to keep quiet. It wasn't smart to accuse someone of something with no proof, let alone a complete stranger- This one in particular, as the cute ones tend to be the most dangerous. And she has no guarantees she can protect herself, let alone the new Starcalled.

'Don't judge stuff you don't understand, Magi Heart says... To think there's worse out there would imply you are a hypocrite, or that you do understand it.'

Her own thoughts got her blood cold, like anything related to Dissonance itself.

The conversation thankfully stirred back to Kirius as he gave up hints to have been informing himself. "So you did read up something about this game? Well, I'm impressed. Most people jump in blind not knowing a thing about it." At least smarter players remained amidst heroic fools.

"Astral rupture? Huh, well this area is pretty weird on it's own. Can't tell really. At least you are safe and didn't get your guts eaten out." She shrugged, giving him two firm pats on his right shoulder. Magi gave a tentative offer in the meantime, but this guy decided to push his luck even further.

To 'power-level', that alone just got a short-lived chuckle out of her mouth. Fiora finally sized this fresh adventurer for a moment and pulled her sword from the solid ground with one jank

"I'm in the same fence as Magi, I hate this place. But who am I to say no to a bit of fun? I'll be your tank if you would like. Eitherway, there's no better training than fighting to survive." She said, energetic voice fitting the smirk crossing her lips right now. "I don't mind if you take the lead, I'm sure Magi and I will nudge you away if you start to head straight to the crater."

When @Kirius rejected the option to just be escorted back to Astorea, Wendel looked disappointed. He was supposed to be her supply for a while...

Then he gave his preferred option.

The pinkette's mouth hung open for a second while @Fiora Di Angelo just offered a chuckle. "Power Level" like a video game? Magi Heart used to do that too. She was bad at knowing the best method since VRMMO was not her genre until Terrasphere. Even then, she was a terrible gamer and her friends didn't hold back on letting her know when they were around.

Huh, strange time for a refreshed memory...

Wendel then started to giggle then laugh quite a bit louder than her usual. Her hand went over her mouth to cover some of the dissonant sounds. Something about it was just funny, funny enough to bring mad tears down her face but she wiped them away and turned back to the fresh-faced dummy. It was true that he would encounter less danger if they just went straight towards the bridge but he wanted to suffer. Purposely torturing people that she couldn't permanently kill to relieve them afterward wasn't her thing. The Dark Heart wasn't cruel like that, so she had to think about it...

"Wowzers, you're weird. Hmmm..."

"I don't mind if you take the lead, I'm sure Magi and I will nudge you away if you start to head straight to the crater."

Nudge him into the crater alright...

The thought crossed Wendel's distorted mind but no she didn't have any idea what that would do and feeding Dissonance besides herself was not something she aimed for. Looking around the vast green flatlands of the valley, Magi tapped her chin and held her elbow with her other hand.

"If you want to fight something strong stay away from the big road that connects the merchant place to the bridge. There are statues of weird people that make me sick to my stomach. Uh, maybe you could climb these cliffs here and fight more birdies?"

Not really wanting to spend more time in one place than she needed for personal reasons, the teen offered other options.

"I saw elementals wandering around the valley sometimes when I was here before. They could help you get that death you want so bad *giggle*. Lots of wild animals that look super weird around too. Ostriches with lizard tails, big turtles that look like rocks, and other stuff like that."

The memory of her stay in a certain old couple's home and being fed Burcow stew came to her. Those were a lot farther from here though. Wendel, like Wendy before her, wasn't the best with words. Perhaps the others would understand her point of animals and monsters here having strange, sometimes chimera-like qualities when compared to the other human-dominated regions.

".Don't go to any place with too many people. Or I'll have to leave and we're friends now right...?"

She offered a nice smile and let her body rest while he decided. As long as she could get something out of his self-inflicted misery sure she'll stick around. As Astorea's Starcalled (fallen) Savior it was only right to help out the newbies!

"That sounds like you are going to end up with a dead newbie if you talk him around to hunt without the proper....range."

The voice seemed to come from a while away, carried down towards them on the wind, and that wind brought the scent of smoke and stale booze. The man that pulled himself into the clearing was one old and depressing person, his beard had been cut close to his face, and his hair was covering the rest; with how his coat had been latched up, he was more of a shape than an actual person.

"Something has been happening in this, and I took a job to see what it might be; however, I did not expect to run into new blood this far out, and one that is still alive is a bit more interesting."

He let his eyes rest on Magi for a second, those dark brown iris taking in the female, one of the few people he would never take a job on for reasons...that list small, but it was still there. He slowed down, coming to a stop as he looked at the group that was in front of him before he reached into his coat and pulled out a smoke, herbs wrapped up in a leaf made for ease of use when he didn't have a pipe anywhere—pointing to the downed birds.

"I was following that pack when I saw them turned and wondered what might have brought them down in this direction, and it seems they found some dinner but ran into a set of hunters babysitting. And the small piece of prey seemed to want to turn himself into a predator in a short period of time. I am not sure if you are confident or stupid, maybe a mixture of both, but you are in the company of dangerous people who can keep you alive."

Shaking his head as a thought ran through it before he pulled back his cloak and let the little bit of magic he used push its way into those rings, giving him back his left arm. A thing of the spirit that joined the man at the shoulder. Standing up straighter, he looked at the team in front of him and checked his arrows as he turned to look like someone that had accomplished a number of things in the younger parts of his life, the smoke from his roll filling his lungs before he blew out a cloud of it into the air watching it fade away in seconds, so he knew the direction of the wind no matter where he moved.

Kiriya was not aware of who the scraggly stranger was, but there was something dangerous about the man. Having participated in multiple kendo matches against opponents who completely outmatched him, Kiriya had similar feelings about Aalam. Rather than despair that he was in the presence of people who could easily snuff his light out, the youth saw it as an even bigger opportunity to get ahead with not just two seasoned players, but three!

With that in mind, he nodded to Magi and Fiora

Hmm, got it. I'm not in any hurry to die so let's definitely avoid Dissonance. From the way you guys talk about it, the risk doesn't really justify the rewards.

He then turned toward Aalam.

Since you're out bird-hunting, will you not join us? The more the merrier, right?

Afterward, Kirius pulled the cloak closer to his chest before he pointed toward the massive cliff face that was Star Heights in the distance.

If the giant birds live and hunt from there, that means that there will be a cavern system within that we can try to enter without being exposed to the Cliffside predators. Let's try to enter one of those caverns.

Anything we find on our run can just be divided evenly among you three, so 30/30/30. I'll skim the 10% just to have enough to buy a basic set of equipment. We will go as far as we could before hitting roughly 30% in health where we will turn back.

Is everyone good with that?

With a plan formulated and set in motion, Kirius bent down and grabbed the heaviest palm-sized rock he could find, moving it up and down with his scrawny arm. If he was going to survive the death game, he needed to be smart and use his time efficiently. For the time being, he needs to put on enough muscle to be able to lift a sword while deferring the adventuring to the actual adventurers.

When Wendel's astral sense tingled, she turned to see an old man, well for her anyway. There may have been a time she had seen this man before but she could not recall every face she saw or interaction she made especially if it was years ago while still under Verm's thumb.

It was clear enough though, that she was now in the company of people that would cause her trouble if she had too much fun with the newbie. They would never understand her to need to do it, so this became less worth her time now.

Kirius talked about going through a cavern or something at Star Heights. Magi had never explored those much. Back then, by the time she had reached the valley, there was little need but to go east.

Well, maybe she could salvage something here...

"Okies. Let's go see how far we can get. That'll be fun right newbie friend?"

And so they set off.

The Star Heights were not given their name for nothing. The tops towered over the valley and acted as a barricade of their own. Between them and the Naryu, truly the value of the Silvergate Bridge became apparent.

The E-ranked swordsman had expected a simple cavern and yes caverns existed as the group trudged along. However the complexity of these tunnels were not to be underestimated, forked paths of up to three or more were frequent and every time a path led back outside it was a gift of fresh air only to be replaced with the sound of the wings of the reapers.

As they ascended the Baboons would appear, angry and unpleasant, but never reckless! They threw stones and used their huge arms to attempt heavy attacks on the slow. Sometimes eerie voices came from the cliff walls or the rocks within the tunnels. The faces that shifted in the earth... what even were they? Yet they were dangerous and had to be destroyed. Magi in particular felt happy to end anything that sounds so sad and desperate.

Then came the flowers. Every now and then these Lilies attacked suddenly and were strewn throughout certain tunnels. Luckily they were fairly localized so if those tunnels were avoided, the flowers would not appear.

@Kirius @Fiora Di Angelo @Aalam Abungu

The Star Height's Kirius Grind Challenge!

Pick fights with any of the listed monsters.
For every 1 of them killed (LP=0) record the amount of stars it's worth (rarity/difficulty). Example: Killed 2 Mad Baboons= 4✦ | Whatever amount of Yellows were defeated (for the second requirement to reach higher elevations).
Switch to any monster you want every cycle! You only take damage from the monster you attack!
See how many kills can be accumulated before having to retreat or you get bored of grinding!
Depending on the total number of certain monsters killed, the destination at the end will be reflected.
  • Heights Base: Starting Point
  • Lower Heights: 10 ✦ worth of monsters.
  • Middle Heights: 20 ✦ worth of monsters including 5 Yellow Monsters
  • Upper Heights: 30 ✦ worth of monsters including 10 yellow Monsters

And maybe some secret places could be found but hey I'm not a DM or Narrator this time around so *shrug* If anyone wants to alter this or substitute a new thing feel free. It's just an idea I came up with.

Note: If any enemy SP drops to zero it stays that way for the rest of the run. So it's up to you if the removal of the enemy ability is worth not knocking off LP and taking retal for a turn or two.

Through these tunnels, the embers of her torch and whatever else the rest would use to carve the light into the depths of their path. It was the beginning, but certainly wouldn't be the end, because that would leave a real bad first impression, between Magi Heart, the strange yet powerful magic girl that could bring death as swiftly as she giggled between disturbing bits of dialogue. Herself. And the mysterious hunter that reeks of booze and smoke, possibly nicotine, who clearly shoulders experience and skill that can range from higher-end to absurdly above the rest... What did they have to fear?

And of course, one can't forget their leader wearing a plain dress and her cloak, Kirius, who would command their combined powers (And already did, given their location) to reach the summit and whatever awaits.

"Alright. First thing you gotta know: turn off the auto assist from your palm menu. It will only slow you down, so best you get used to it right away." Fiora gave a little glance at @Kirius when these words rolled out, before she pulled out her blade and rose her torch high up, where the moans of hundreds of faces and their echoes resonated to everyone's ears. The shifting on their mouths made them look organic despite their composition.

The fate of fallen adventurers such as themselves, clearly...

There were many targets, but Fiora didn't stall despite her own lack of magic, and while carrying a source of light she rushed forth to become the center of attention, or the human bait- Anything to keep the grotesque cavern-dwellers from focusing on both veterans aswell as to embolden their fresh newbie with some false heroics.

"And don't forget. Strike first, and strike hard!" Words punctuated by the plunge of her blade that went straight towards one of the wailing stone faces that shattered on impact. Yet where one voice died off, plenty more arise from around them, like a crescendo of pain, anguish and torment.

Fiora shook off her head, casting aside the miserable thoughts from their eternal cries for the time being, as she poured focus instead on the party instead.

He cracked his jaw as he looked at the collection of creatures that had come this way following the scent of the downed birds; there were a few that he was expecting and one that he was not. He had not expected to run into one of the lilies this far out. They were an annoying fight even then; you were ready, and this time he did not have fire to beat them back, but it seemed that he didn't need to do that much. Pulling the smoke into his lungs as he looked at the collection of creatures that were in front of him, it seemed that they were going to have a good deal of fun, and if nothing else, he would be able to skin a few things to sell them back in town. He let the smoke drift out of him as he moved, tracking the movement of the big in the air; the rest of them were on the ground, which meant the big one, and the newbie would be able to lay on the damage however those things in flight....well the birds were his, reaching into his quiver as his fingers moved over the fletching before he pulled out a broadside. An arrow was made to punch into a target and weigh them down, making every other.

The reaper might have been fast, but he was a good practice shot, so he let that arrow fly towards where the creature would be and not where it was.

"She is right, you know; while the assist helps you rely on it too much later, you tend to end up dead. That is an unpleasant experience. "

He could hear the thing scream as his arrow found its mark pushing into the flesh of the beast as blue blood covered the ground.

"Seems I missed."

Giving @Fiora Di Angelo a nod as he felt that protection comes over him; that was why it was good to fight with someone that was a tank they made sure to take the blows for you.

"Mind taking out the Reaper@Magi Heart, give the newbie only things on the ground to deal with."

Well, if all of my seniors said so, then I really don't have a choice, huh? Going hard right off the boat? I like your guy's style. Let's get some training done!

Kirius opened his palm menu and breezed through the options, where he danced his thumb over the [ OFF ] button before committing his choice to both settings.

Settings 🠆 Auto Assist: Off
Settings 🠆 Pain Receptor: Off

He could feel a difference immediately after he gained full control and autonomy of his body. There was a realistic perception of weight in his movement, and the sensation of the biting winds felt as sharp as knives being drawn over taut skin.

When his seniors headed off to battle, he trailed behind, keeping careful watch of his surroundings as they enter the first opening they found.

Syndra's beckoning bell rang to the tune of Kirius' death.

The grind was on.

After the elf beauty dropped the raven-haired youth a hot tip and pulled the attention of the more dangerous enemies away, the master hunter arrow took down one of the Reapers that had been stalking them. Kirius had no idea they were followed by said predator, but the tension cleared as soon as the arrow punched through the avian's eye and stuck out of the other side.

Fiora meanwhile sculped the rockface ahead, though, considering the fact that the swordsman was, in fact, without his sword, he tried to find his own prey.

Ook ook eek!

A red-faced baboon glowered at Kirius, arms twitching in delight as it imagined what it would be like to tear the youth's face off.

Focus. Kirius told himself. Breathe and watch carefully.

Even if he did not have the power to take the monkey down in a single shot like his veteran peers, he could dodge and whittle it down.

Kirius' grip on the rock he's been curling all this time got tighter.

The Baboon jumped.

Kirius was gone.

BONK!

The blunt sound filled the part of the cave where Kirius faced the Mad Baboon.

Kirius had appeared behind the primate, rock held in front of him, his face bleeding from a botched grab.

The primate was behind him, holding his head, which had been caved in by the rock. The bonking was so monumental that it had split the rock in half.

Kirius' heart was pounding so hard it felt as though it was going to jump out between his ribs.

Such realism. Such power. It was exhilarating...!

The cold, the scent, the feel, the illusion of victory, the sound of allies, the death glare from an enemy he couldn't kill despite putting his all into the single attack. It was just so fun!

In cave..
Out of cave...
In cave...
Out of cave...
This was going to be a bit.

Upon exiting one of the caverns a group of Ascent Reapers wasted no time striking at the party. @Aalam Abungu asked for Magi's help. Keeping her focus on the newbie all the while. Magi shot a few rounds of magic but ignored the falling avians and continued along.

The faces in the rocks @Fiora Di Angelo was dealing with were distracting to Wendel more than anything. She felt sadness in them but couldn't understand exactly what they were. Fiora went about attacking them mercilessly, but for Magi it was all the same.

"If they have to cry so much. Let's set them free. I'll help you with that!"

Once Kirius began dueling monkeys. Magi watched as he was suf... having fun?

Her mouth twisted into a slight frown. He was new, so of course, he had fun. Magi had fun too until she couldn't do anything right, but this guy was so carefree... It was another thing she hated about normies. People that just took pleasure in chaos.

How ironic that she had to feed off it this way when she hated it so.

Not lifting one finger to kill the injured Baboon, Magi poked her head out from behind the angry (but never reckless) primate and saw Kirius's bloody face.

"...It's fun isn't it?"

She didn't give much more of an expression. Instead, she just watched and tried to relearn and maybe understand what her people whom she barely related with anymore, the Starcalled, felt when they first arrived here.

Innocent days.

"I should go back there...it's almost my birthday."
Yours or mine...?

"If they have to cry so much. Let's set them free. I'll help you with that!" The Magi girl called out, splitting the knightess's attention for a moment. Enough to get her back from that battle-trance, and into the harrowing cries the rocks were uttering.

"Living up to your title, eh Savior?" Grateful rather than sarcastic, with a smile to match said sentiment.

Her gaze fell over @Aalam Abungu just as the man stated about missing his target, by now having cut the distance between them short as she worked out to intercept incoming blows.

"Even the best hunter can miss the hare, my dad used to say." She commented with encouragement surging through her voice. "I'll cover the newbie, stay sharp." The elf nodded, dropping her torch on the ground, dexterious use of the palm menu helped to bring forth her shield in a short span of time.

Hyper sense helped her track the raven-boy as he almost became a shadow himself with such sharp movements, delivering an echoing strike that could have been a death blow, if only his weapon of choice wasn't just a rock, but the damage it caused was no joke whatsoever.

It had her bobbing her head in approval as she closed up on the foolish monkey and an adrenaline-boosted Kirius. The bloodlust on that primate had her worried for a second, yet thankfully Magi is pretty nearby, and in fact, had a very similar train of thought as herself. Or so she assumed, given her lack of assistance to beat the monkey while it's back is turned.

"I got you covered. Finish it off. Rock, fists, kicks, whatever you got!" boisterous voice roared outwards, in hopes of hyping him up just enough for that last push against the enraged monkey, meeting wrath with might. If anything reckless were to happen, at least he could count with her shield to stop it, and Magi to disintegrate it to nothingness, if Aalam's arrows don't pierce it first.

All to give some fresh fun to a new starcalled.

Rolling forward and reaching into his quiver as he took the time to line up the shot, he could feel the weight that was on his body, and that was annoying maybe it was a result of the drink that allowed one of the plants to get a foothold into him. Either that or he had been out of practice...no; no, that couldn't be it he was in the best shape of his life if you left out the smoking and the drinking that he did in the game. Yea, that sounded about right it was just a lapse in concentration that he would bounce back from, running his fingers over his collection of arrows and pulling out something with a lot less weight, something that would have let drag as the thing that he was trying to hit was much smaller. Looking into the mouth of the lily before he released his arrow, watching it take off one of the petals

"Hmm, I will have to worry about more if I am that rusty"

@Fiora Di Angelo

Sliding back into cover as he felt that pain coming from a collection of status effects slamming into him, well, that was also going to be something that he was going to need to deal with over time. He would have to work on knocking down some of those that can deal the damage over time if they don't work on those well, he still remembers what happened to the south gate.

"I will work on those with a higher danger rating while you keep the newbie alive. "

Taking a long pull from his smoke as he looked at the collection of creatures that they were fighting this was going to be a good deal of fun no matter what. They might get close if they played their cards right.

"I leave the rest to you @Magi Heart."

Kirius looked at @Magi Heart who had somehow managed to read him like an open book, was he that obvious? Or perhaps she was into him? Haha, there's no way. He turned and met her gaze head-on.

Yeah, it really is fun. Unlike the injustice of real life, this world let you reach such unfathomable heights. Look at yourselves. You can't expect me to believe that everyone here isn't having fun wielding such unimaginable power. Finally, I can have a real shot at my dream. If fun is not what you're fighting for, for what or whom do you wield such strength?

Before there was any time to talk, however, Kirius jumped out of the way when @Aalam Abungu dashed past him to get to another enemy flanking their side, while @Fiora Di Angelo covered him briefly before she too headed off.

The raging baboon screeched when the raven found himself alone with nothing but two halves of a rock. He readied himself and hurled the shards at the primate.

Missed.

OOK OOK WEEEEEEK!!!

The angry baboon lunged toward Kirius with sharp claws and sharper teeth, intending on tearing meat off his bone. Had the youth not jumped out of the way in time and had had Fiora's pre-emptive protection, he would have taken more damage than a stray swipe of the claw.

Tcch. Missed.

The ground beneath them rumbled as if heralding an unexpected arrival.

It seemed they did have a time limit to their hunt, after all...

Unimaginable power.
Dreams.
Fun.

Then he proceeds to miss the baboon.

Magi's body shifted along with the primate. Appearing behind it again and forming an energy arrow in hand, she drove it through its back, piercing through to the other side. The mammal decayed at an accelerated rate as it crumpled to the ground.

Her right eye blackened as her clothes shimmered with a magenta aura. The back of her dress spread out seeping into the cavern floor.

"Power hurts."

Not elaborating on it, Wendel continued on, using her partially eldritch state to crush the other enemies encountered. While she still relied on her projectiles, she had a more versatile approach this way. Using the glimmering shadow of her dress to reach out and grasp enemies then devoured them whole under the shadow while her arms focused on her magic archery.

The earth rumbling was not unnoticed by the Dark Heart, but she said little more from here on. Until... they exited a cavern and she gazed out over the area. In the distance, one would see a sparkling city, and farther out the tip of an object that Magi knew about but these people likely wouldn't.

Her body was tired.

The Tertorian monsters were generally just upgraded versions of the ones found in Astorea and Falderen. enhanced by whatever magic filled the air here or disfigured and corrupted by years living with dissonance. It was not surprising that these strong Starcalled were having difficulty with so few on such a lengthy ascent. One or two more or perhaps not having a complete newbie would have made all the difference, alas.

Magi in her efforts to keep up once again, overused mana her body can't handle. So now she was...

"I'm hungr- *cough* tired. Um..."

Magi made a somewhat pleading look as her form returned to a more basic mahou shoujo look. She had to do this carefully or they would take what may have been just dark magic (bad in itself) and see it as something worse. So Wendel came up with an idea.

"Can I... um, uhh... can I have some friendship power? Bonds and connections? You just let me take your hand and uh think about all the stuff you don't like. I take it off you and it makes us better friends! I-I'm feeling drained and don't think I can keep going unless we do..."

Of course, perhaps it was time to leave with earthquakes and they had made progress now at a good elevation for normal travelers...

<Magi Heart requests to feed off you! Will you offer her your HP? The trade is 1-1>
