Mizuki was quite happy to have come across another person who'd be willing to go adventuring with her from time to time. Of course, both of them also had their own lives, so it wasn't like they were constantly on the road together, but at least MAI was curious enough about the world of Terrasphere that the two of them could plan expeditions together when their schedules gave them the opportunity.
The decision to head for the Hylands was sensible to Mizuki: she'd already gone there before, but she would rarely turn down the opportunity to visit the homeland of the caenis race, especially since the journey itself was exhilarating. And after MAI had professed an interest in astronomy the luna wolf had suggested that from the Hylands you could get a clearer view of the heavens than any other place that she knew of. With the two of them both getting something out of the trip it didn't take long for them to set off.
Of course, one of the things that differentiated Terrasphere from most standard MMORPGs was that there was no such thing as fast travel. If you wanted to go somewhere you had to get there with whatever means of locomotion were available to you. And the Hylands were on the other side of Astorea, which meant that they had some ways to walk. By the time they reached the foot of the massive plateau that rose high above the clouds autumn had already made way for winter, with a thick layer of snow covering the land. The trees had lost what leafs had remained, many-fingered figures of various colours giving the environment an almost ominous look.
The Hylands, however, dwarfed all of that. The steep slopes stood out like a dark grey wall against the white land and the pale sky, with the snow only claiming limited footholds: near the base of the plateau, there was still plenty of snow, as roads and cliffs zigzagged their way up the mountainside. The higher the eye went, the fewer of these horizontal spots remained, until the horizon-defying wall disappeared into the clouds that were heavy-laden with snow that had yet to fall.
Mizuki looked up at the task that lay before them, her mismatched eyes searching for the usual paths that were taken by those brave enough to challenge the Ascent. Now more than ever such a challenge could have lethal consequences, as the slipperiness of the slow made the climb more treacherous than usual, while the chill of winter would eat away at the fortitude of anyone who ventured outside of the towns and the villages.

She looked over to MAI as she said this. Thanks to her nature as a caenis Mizuki had a distinct advantage when it came to surviving cold climates. After all, her kin couldn't have made their home on top of the Hylands if a single harsh winter was enough to wipe them out. Meanwhile, MAI... well, she wasn't made of flesh and blood, was she?

While MAI's race might not make her as sensitive to temperatures it wasn't like mechanical devices were completely immune. Many a machine had broken down thanks to father winter's cruel touch. Oil could freeze, metal could crack, and engines could fall silent. This journey might be a good opportunity for both of them to find out just how resilient magia truly were.
Mizuki, meanwhile, was dressed as always: her standard outfit was already suited for colder climates. However, her hair and tail would look thicker and fluffier than usual, and a layer of pale fur adorned her hands and feet, with her feet even having taken on a digitigrade form to minimise her contact with the cold ground.

It's a good thing neither of us is sensitive to the cold, or this would be a fool's errand.

I imagine you still need to keep your core warm or something?
