Kat lay on her bed staring at the ceiling. She would sneak the occasional glance at the headset that lay on her nightstand. The same headset that had lay there for over a year now. The game that had remained in her thoughts for just as long. The game that caused Ryou to leave her. The game she couldn't let go of, despite not even having played it. The addiction that held onto her long after she had actually touched the drug. It was the memories, the fun of the events that led to her being banned from the game by Ryou. The joy her character felt, was so real that she felt it too.

And yet a part of her was still scared to jump back in. What if Ryou was right? The game was in the news. It was regarded as dangerous, even banned in some regards. Perhaps she shouldn't have fought with Ryou over it after all. It was either pick up the headset and play, or pick up the phone and apologize. She needed to make that choice, here and now.

With a heavy sigh, she rolled over onto her side and her hand hovered near the phone and the headset, shaking, before she finally picked it up. Placing the headset on her head, she re-entered the world of TerraSphere for the first time in over a year.

---

Once everything started, she was still amazed at how real everything felt. She looked down at the kimono she had chosen to wear for her adventures in this world, and smiled. Just as she had left it. However, the bed she lay in was much harder than she remembered it being. She shifted on the hard slat covered by a thin feather mattress, and suddenly realized that this wasn't the room she had logged out in. Not that she had vivid memories of the guest room that she had in the Adventurer's Guild or anything, it had just been a basic low rank room after all. No, this was nothing but bricks and barely any amenities. The "bed" was a slat hung from the wall, and there was a toilet in the corner. The window had bars over it, and the door was... jail bars.

Her room in the Adventurer's Guild had been converted into a jail cell. Well, she thought her room, but she really couldn't be upset if they made changes with as long as she was gone. She slid off of the slat "bed" and made her way through the open jail cell doors. At least she hadn't woken up in one with a prisoner already inside, that would have been awkward. She just needed to find the administrator of this Adventurer's Guild station and discuss what happened. If it was a player, she was sure they would understand.

She turned the corner out of the cell, and nearly ran into the belly of a rotund man about twice Kat's height. She fumbled with her sleeve, realizing that she did in fact still have her hidden daggers, just in case things went pear shaped, and then looked up at the man, idly fumbling with her words, "Oh, sorry! I didn't know anyone was in here. I'm looking for the administrator of this building. I'm with the Adventurer's Guild."

"Oy, 'ow did you get in 'ere little one?"
the man asked in a thick accent, "Ain't been no Adventurer's Guild in this place for months now. This is a Magia prison." He looked Kat once over again, before seeming to sense something about her. Kat's blood ran cold. Did he just say Magia prison? Kat is a-

"You a Magia, girl?" The man asked, roughly grabbing Kat's arm. She squeaked and winced at how rough his grip was, and he had grabbed the arm that had the hidden dagger on it. If the sleeve slipped too far from his grip, he'd see that she is armed, and that wouldn't help matters at all. "You is, ain't you? I can smell it. The Magia blood that runs inside you, ain't like human blood." He took a big whiff of her, but it wasn't all malice. His mouth almost seemed to be watering as he looked at her.

"Uh oh." Kat murmured, unsure of what she was going to do next as the man let out a low chuckle.

MAGIA CONTAINMENT PRISON
Time: Late Afternoon
Weather: Cold

A ferocious smirk grew on the man, and only for a moment, his voice sounded slightly melodic, which created an uncanny tone when combined with his hoarse voice.

"Dun be 'fraid, little one..."

He chuckled lowly, and his lips clicked as he suddenly pulled Kat closer, enjoying the horrified expression of the girl.

"Yer magia friends are gon' by now... All the way to the gallows."

The man traced his thumb of his free hand on his neck, for emphasis, and his grip on @Kat Otsu's arms tightened, to the point it even stung, especially considering the weapons under her sleeves, that were now being framed against her skin.

"But don'tcha worry... I am a nice guy. Killin' magia? No... Let's have sum fun instead... If I like ye, I may even wan' to keep ye all to merself-"

He laughed viciously, trying to force Kat's arm behind her back and reaching for the rope roll on his belt, trying to push her toward one of the jail rooms while attempting to trusse her up... It wasn't hard to guess what was his intentions.

Meanwhile...

"Shit." Hanno hissed, pressing his back against a wall, and pulling the hood of his cloak to try and hide his features further. On his back, a gigantic shield rested, with a thin central eye opening on it and looking around. "Feeling anything, Ghast, buddy?" He peeked to his shield, and she rumbled quietly on his back twice, a sign that his dissonant shield was unaware of the presence of any enemy.

Hanno tilted his body on the edge of the corridor, pressing his lips together and nodding. 'Gotta risk it'.

Hurrying, the faerin knight had even forgo his heavy armor for the sake of being a bit more silent. He was already plenty bad on sneaking, but he couldn't help but think about how hard it would be to sneak into this messed up prison with it.

If the information he had acquired from those "knights" he had beaten up was right, he had to pray that he wasn't too late to find the Magias that were all captured. 'Please... Be safe.' He clenched his fist as he ran. At any moment they could have been brought to the execution, but if something, anything had delayed the process, maybe he would've been able to find them.

'Creak-!'

His eyes widened, and a door suddenly opened on the corridor he was on. He quickly tried to get a cover behind a decorative armor, which was thankfully enough... For now...

With a sigh, he frowned, and pressed forward. He needed to find the jail, quickly!

Mechanics - Cycle 0

@Hanno Futaba is looking for his path to the prison, while trying to be as silent as possible about it.
  • He must make a DC 80 Awareness Check to get to the place in time. If he fails, he will get to A1 or A3 Zone, and he won't be able to use Bonus Actions or Free Actions in Cycle 1. If he succeeds, he starts on A2 Zone, with all his actions.
  • He must also make a DC 100 Knack Check to avoid catching the attention of enemies in his way. If he fails, in Cycle 2 more enemies will appear, complicating the combat.
  • Hanno may use any Action, aside of the checks, to assist or prepare himself. Making such actions, however, may have some unforeseen consequences or effects.
@Kat Otsu is in a dire spot. She must try to escape from the guard's tight grasp.
  • She is Restrained, and she must make a DC 80 Fortitude Save to attempt to escape it before her situation get worse. If she succeeds, in Cycle 1 she starts her turn on E2 Zone as normal and may act freely. If she fails, in Cycle 1 she will be Fully Restrained, and will be forcibly moved to F3 Zone, where she will be locked in a jail that has 150 HP. While Fully Restrained, she must use a Main Action to try a DC 100 Fitness or Knack Check to try to escape either by brute force, or swiftly. To move out of F3 Zone, the jail must be attacked and broken. Someone else may use an Action to free her from the binds.
  • During Cycle 0, she may also use other actions, such as attacks or support actions to either assist herself or hurt the man. However, depending on what are her actions, the man may retaliate.

n4qvUO4.jpg

Cycle 1 is where the combat truly starts, and the stats of the enemies will be shown, along with any damage they may have taken during Cycle 0.

The turn order is officially: Cycle 0 starts > @Kat Otsu > @Hanno Futaba > Enemies > Cycle 0 ends / Cycle 1 starts > @Kat Otsu > @Hanno Futaba > Enemies > Cycle 1 ends / Cycle 2 starts... etc etc.

Pull & Push
Base, Bonus

You may pull or push a target within your reach, forcing them 1 zone away or 1 zone closer to your current zone. When using on an enemy, you may pass their Condition DC with a Mastery Check to be successful. Some creatures, especially bosses, can be immune from being forcibly moved.

If the target is in a condition where they are stuck, be it by restraints or obstacles, you may also make a Mastery Check against the DC of whatever has them stuck, to successfully be able to move them.

A target can only be affected by a push or a pull once per Cycle.

Bonus. You push or pull 1 target.

Main. You push or pull 2 targets.

Carry

You may carry a target that is in the same zone as you. Carrying a target costs the double of your movement and your carried target is not affected by the zone hazards (unless specified otherwise).

Full Cover. You take all the damage your ally would receive on their place.

Use Racial Trait
Free Action

You activate or use one of your Racial Traits, triggering its effect in flavor, and giving you a mild advantage on a relevant check. Depending on the Trait's effect, or on the Circumstances, the Trait may trigger an unexpected event, or may turn a failure into a partial success.

The Default is to receive an 1d20 bonus on a roll related to the Racial Trait. Kat gritted her teeth as the man gripped her tightly. She made every attempt to wrench away from him, especially as she could basically see the perverted thoughts playing through his mind like his eyes were a movie player. Panic began to set in, and she just couldn't even get an inch from the man as he drew closer to her.

Something, she had to do something, and quick. Her UI dinged, and she remembered that she had the Auto Assist on from the last time she had played. With nothing more than a thought, she was able to activate it, and suddenly her arm became caked in shadow. Like smoke, her arm vaporized in the man's hand, and the confused look on his face was almost savory as it reformed by her side as if it had always been whole.

Kat could feel the joy bubbling inside of her as she giggled, before flashing her dagger in the dim light of the prison, a wicked smile on her face. "My turn, you creep," she murmured through her smile and slashed the man viciously across the chest. He gasped and staggered backward, blood staining the dirty white shirt that adorned his round chest. But much to Kat's surprise, the cut was not as deep as she had expected it to be. The man appeared to have a leather armor chest piece beneath the shirt, which Kat had only barely managed to cut through.

Cursing herself, and quickly backpedaling from the bravado that she had only moments before, the man advanced on her once again. "The 'ell you got there you little WITCH!" the man shouted, grabbing her wrist, and viciously ripping the dagger from her arm, throwing it against the nearby wall. With the dagger disposed of, the giant of a man wrapped a ham-sized fist around Kat's neck, choking her and lifting her up bodily.

Kat was powerless and gagged at the palm wrapped around her throat, as she was dragged into the nearby jail cell she had only just left. "'Ere I was, thinkin' we was about to have a good time, den you go an' cut me wit' some 'idden device. Don' worry girlie, I'll find any other weapons you 'ave on you when we has fun later. Don' you worry."

He grunted as he grabbed a nearby rope with his free hand, and threw the girl into the chair in the middle of the cell. She gasped for air as she hit the chair, coughing uncontrollably before being pushed back against the chair and tightly tied to it. Instinctively Kat made an attempt to bite the man as he was close enough to her for her to do so, and he just let out a very low, almost growling chuckle, "Careful girlie, we ain't started 'avin' fun yet. I like a good bite." Suddenly that made Kat just want to cry. Turns out Ryou had been right. This was too dangerous. Not even two minutes in and she was already about to be raped and killed in this dangerous game.

Hanno tried to hurry through the corridors, one after another. That prison almost looked like a maze, with sharp corners and endless rooms that seemed to get to nowhere... But at some point, he finally found himself meeting a staircase going down. It was just common sense that the dungeons were underground, so he soon found himself rushing through it, giving less and less care about the sneak attempt.

'Ghast, can you feel anything?'

He questioned his shield in his mind, and the shield rumbled, with her eye darting around before widening, which was when a tentacle merged out from the side of the shield, and she tugged Hanno's arm and gestured to another corridor.

'Good job, buddy-'

A hint of hope, finally a direction. Determined, Hanno darted off immediately... Not even noticing one of the doors were half open, giving room for a half-asleep guard to perk up, noticing the strange blur...

While Hanno was trying to find his way to the jails, @Kat Otsu's panic and attempt to retaliation even when she was tied to a chair amused her kidnapper, that in a mix of ill desires and anger, satisfied himself with the predicament of the poor magia, while he considered how he would make her pay for her 'insolence'.

"Not lookin' all that brave anymor', eh?"

The man mocked about the girl's backpedaling, reaching for her face and forcing his hand on her chin in a rough and tight grip, disdaining her well being while he leaned in and shook her face as he forcibly pulled her closer, staying eye-to-eye with her.

"Ye coul' had just 'ave sum fun with me. I was even goin' to keep ye to merself... But ye 're too stubborn. I should just give ye to the gallows!"

His chuckle came out differently, wrathful and not as playful as before. It was clear now that he wasn't just going to relief his wicked desires. He was going to really make her suffer.

"But first... Ye are too cute to not do anythin' with..."

He rose her chin, taking a good look at her... But his words echoed in the corridor of the jail, being picked up by the faerin that had just turned to the right corner, in time to catch the situation, despite still being a bit far. That large man towering a restrained girl just like that, and with that disgusting implication, Hanno would never allow it.

"What did you say?!" Hanno hissed, pressing his back against a wall, and pulling the hood of his cloak to try and hide his features further. On his back, a gigantic shield rested, with a thin central eye opening on it and looking around. "Get the hell away from her! Let her go right now!" He roared and pointed fiercely at the culprit, wrath lingering in his tone as he clenched his fist tightly around the grip of his shield. He knew some Falderen guards weren't worth of trust, but that was beyond disgusting.

The yells had caught the man off guard at first, and for a moment he even flinched, raising his posture like one would do to one official- But as soon as his eyes met the faerin's, his gaze narrowed, and an angry tongue click echoed... Yet... His gaze had a hint of satisfaction seeing the faerin too.

"Ye are in the wron' alley, boy... 'eems our fun 'll have to wait 'gain, girlie."

His lips twisted in a devilish smirk, casting one last gaze on Kat before huffing and roughly getting his hands off her- But it wasn't out of surrendering... No. He simply moved away from the jail, locking the door and tossing the key away out of the upper opening of the dungeon.

"But at least ye 'ill have a company... I didn' expect to have two toys to 'ave fun in a single dam' day, 'ell gotta be my lucky day."

Those words only made Hanno's teeth grit even tighter.

"You fucking pig."

What if he was too late? What if he already laid a finger on the Magias and that was just the last one..? His wrath rose not only in a sense of protection, but also in a sense of revenge... But the rotund man? He only seemed to enjoy himself further.

"Come 't me!"

He opened his arms, provoking the faerin knight.

@Hanno Futaba has all his actions, however he made too much noise.
@Kat Otsu is Fully Restrained. The only Action she can do is attempting a DC 100 Fitness or Knack Check to get rid of her binds. Someone else may also use an Action (except Free Actions) to untie her, as long as they are in the same zone as her.

More enemies are incoming next Cycle.

Kat fought back the tears, still trying her best to put on a strong front despite the man pushing himself on her. She struggled against the ropes in vain, grimacing every time he uttered his disgusting ideas. It reminded her of the sleaze bags at the bar. And that was when Kat started to get angry. This was no different from her work. She knew how to deal with men like this.

But before she could do anything else, the man was distracted by a voice. Before she knew it, he had left her in the cell to take care of the intruder. “Someone is here to save me!” she murmured to herself. But then her face twisted in confusion. “Someone is here to save me? Nobody knew I was logging in today.”

But, locked in this cell, she had to figure something out. She looked around, trying to see if there was anything nearby, but it was all out of reach. She tried to activate her Auto Assist, but it required a UI prompt, and she couldn’t reach it. She even tried to do the smoky arm trick again, but couldn’t figure it out without the Auto Assist.

Frustrated, she kicked her feet angrily, and ended up tipping the chair, as it crashed backwards onto the ground. Much to her dismay, the chair was sturdy enough to not break, though she swore she felt the ropes loosen slightly. But, she was still stuck. And now stuck and prone.

“Dammit…” she muttered angrily.

Hanno frowned at the provocation, and he darted off, charging immediately at the giant man that nearly blocked the corridors of the cell with his large and round frame, fairly confident that he could deal with a puny faerin that Hanno looked to be.

'Ghast, now!'

But Hanno wasn't punny, and even less a dumb person. He braced himself, with a firm grip on his shield and swirling before tossing it over the head of the Jailer, that ducked slightly to avoid it, and laughed whe he thought he had dodged the attack... Until the shield allowed tentacles to sprout out of its sides, reaching for the rotund man and wrapping around his limbs, pulling them back and opening his defenses.

"Heh?! The 'ell is that, aargh!"

The man struggled, trying to free himself from the tentacles that entangled all over him, swarming his body with its viscuous and outworldly touch while Hanno finally enclosed the distance, narrowing his gaze to focus on the wide wound he had on his chest.

"You will pay for this-" He hissed, throwing a focused punch on the wound, allowing his blow to pierce through the worn out armor, and quivering the big man's body inside out with the impact, nearly making it lose the balance as he stumbled backwards, feeling a sudden lack of oxygen, especially considering @Kat Otsu's severe attack on him a dozen minutes ago.

Momentarily out of breath, the man pulled strength out of pure adrenaline, forcibly holding on the tentacles and ripping them off his body, thundering a scream out of pure anger before throwing aside the shield that had glued on him.

Hanno prepared himself for another attack, but as soon as his arm was thrusted in for another strike, the large man took a nearly bone crushing grip on Hanno's arm, making him wince before the man grappled the faerin's neck and slammed him against the bars of the opposite jail.

"Ye feckn brat!"

His hands tightened their grip around Hanno's neck, making the faerin quickly lose all his breath, on top of having to bear with the crushing feeling in his throat.

"Nevermin' the gallows, I am gun kill ye n' yer friend!"

The man roared enraged, and Hanno could only grasp his hand, trying to move it away while attempting to slip his grapple while he was squeezed against the bars of the other cell. His vision blurred for a moment, but when it focused back to the tied girl, he knew he couldn't fail. He couldn't fail this fight, he couldn't fail her- What if she was UI Locked? She wouldn't have another chance!

With a tight grip on the man's hands, Hanno struggled no matter how dire the situation was... Especially when he could hear the sounds of hurried footsteps echoing in the corridors.

@Kat Otsu is Fully Restrained. The only Action she can do is attempting a DC 100 Fitness or Knack Check to get rid of her binds. Someone else may also use an Action (except Free Actions) to untie her, as long as they are in the same zone as her.
Zone F3 is locked, no one can enter or leave it, unless it is destroyed (it has 150 HP), or if someone succeeds in a DC 80 Knack Check to pick lock it.

Kat could hear the two men fighting outside of her cell. All she could see was the ceiling of the cell, but they were making quite the ruckus out there. It sounded like her savior might have been winning, but with all the grunting and shouting and trash-talking, she couldn't be sure.

She struggled against the ropes some more, wiggling herself from side to side to try to get the chair to shift in such a way that she could at the very least see the action happening outside. She managed to wiggle herself onto her side, so that she was laying facing the wall, her feet able to be used as basic rudders to turn herself towards the bars.

This, of course, did absolutely nothing to help her escape. But that was okay, she didn't know how she was going to do that anyway. She at least wanted to know what to expect when the victor came to claim their "prize". She hoped it was the savior fighting the guard, and she hoped that he did have good intentions. But for all she knew, this guy had broken into the prison to have his own fun with Magia, if he knew that Magia were held here. Kat dared not think further on such thoughts. She was already in enough hot water.

She managed to shift herself to be able to see the bars, just in time to watch her savior, a knight by all appearances, get shoved against the bars of a nearby cell. Kat winced in response to it, knowing that the mountain of a jailer was not going to have been soft about that.

But, Kat would at least try to encourage the man fighting the jailer, "Hey! Uh, knight guy!" she started. Frustrated at how poorly she was doing already. "I have faith in you!" she continued. Doing a little better. "Not, uh... not that I have much choice. But I do have faith in you!" She almost had it. But she was so very bad at pep talks.

Hanno couldn't even swallow while the Jailer continued to nearly crush his throat... His body, weakening at every second spent not only without air, but on the deadly grip.

He held on the Jailer's wrists, trying to use it to support himself and pull him up, pressing his feet against the bars to try to get some support so he would ease the damage gravity was doing to him by letting him hanging on that position... And he casted a glance into the cell, hoping that the girl would somehow free herself- He knew she was struggling and squirming to leave a moment ago, and as he saw her somewhat moving, he thought that perhaps there was a chance--

However, she hadn't moved with the main intention of trying to free herself this time, instead, she had moved to see what was happening, and to spend her efforts to encourage him.

As her words reached his ears, no matter if they weren't a big speech or anything of the sorts. All he knew was that she was counting on her, and that if he failed there, he wasn't just dooming himself, but dooming her.

Gritting his teeth, he tried to force the grip of the man to open, slightly opening his airways again, with a weak gasp escaping his lips as he locked a glare on the man. "This... Is your last... Chance." He scowled.

"Ye ar'n goin anywhe- aaarh?!"

The tentacles once again wrapped on his eyes, with the shape of the giant shield covering the Jailer's back while its tentacles crawled through his body, helping Hanno to find the opening necessary for him to slip from the grasp, stomping the ground as he reached terra firma again, and watching the man as he struggled to keep his balance.

Hanno's hand briefly reached his aching neck, while his other hand clenched as he pulled forward and shoved a punch on the man's belly, making him flinch and glare down at the faerin while he struggled with the dissonant shield behind him.

"YE LITTLE-!"

He roared, trying to shove his feet foward for a stomp, but missing the faerin that swiftly deflected the attack and side stepped to throw a kick on the only leg he had on the ground, supporting his weight. Hanno's lips pursed, and he leaped, fluttering his wings to keep his height for a moment as he clenched his fist, swinging it for an uppercut that connected on the man's chin and cracked his teeth together.

"Aarhgh- Rrhh..."

The rotund man stumbled, feeling his stance faltering and his sight blur along with a metallic and warm liquid running in his mouth before the dissonant shield left his back, pulling him to let him crash head first on the bars of @Kat Otsu's cell, forcing it wide open as the locker broke, and the man fell limp with white eyes.

Hanno breathed heavily for a moment, letting out a cough, and taking only a second to recover his energy before a glimpse of the girl made him rush, pulling his shield closer again before kneeling next to the Magia.

"Damn it, are you alright? Did he hurt you?" He asked, worriedly as he started working on undoing the ropes that were tightly binding her. Hanno frowned as he noticed how merciless that man had been, but her shook those thoughts away and focused on being efficient- And as soon as he was done releasing her, he slipped a sigh, standing and offering help for her to get back on her feet. "Can you stand?" Another question came, but the sounds of footsteps caught his attention.

"For Tyldr! What happened?!"

A guard asked, surprised at fallen man by the end of the corridor.

"... It is probably the intruder... HEY! Show yourself and surrender immediately! You are surrounded!"

Hanno looked behind his back, swallowing and looking up at where the man had tossed his keys. It was a bit high, but maybe...

"Look. I will get rid of them. This may buy time for you." He took off his cloak, offering it to her. They had a similar size, so it would fit her. "Use it to hide your face, and escape from that... Window? That opening over there." He gestured, picking up his shield again and preparing to fight by himself if necessary.

Kat watched everything play out before her. It was a pretty tense back and forth before the knight managed to completely cold-cock the jailer with a savage uppercut. She wanted to cheer but was doing so internally so as not to break the man's concentration on, well, actual survival. As an added bonus, the man managed to break open the prison that she was stuck in with his corpse. At least, Kat hoped he was dead. He deserved it.

Not much longer after that the knight had hurried in and untied her. Kat slowly managed to stand up, rubbing her arms to get the blood flowing again after the rope had been tied so tightly around her body. Then the knight started spouting something about escape, looking at a nearby window. Kat looked at the man and raised an eyebrow. "Escape? We can do that after these jerks pay for what they did to me. You already took care of the big guy, but I can hear his friends just outside."

No, Kat was resolved to pay an eye for an eye after this. She remembered how to play slowly, but the Auto Assist was kicked on just to give her that helpful edge, as she looked at the cloak that the knight was giving her. It gave her an idea. A wicked grin drew across her face, as she grabbed it from the man, and then like a bolt of lightning was gone, her Dynamism having activated as well.

The plan was simple in theory, but harder in concept without the Auto Assist to help her pull it off. She sprinted past where her second dagger was lying and clipped it back onto her wrist. Thankfully the brute hadn't managed to destroy it. Now it was time to hit her target.

Four men in front of her, and Kat knew she could get at least one of them. Before any of them could register the blur in front of them as a target, Kat threw the cloak at the nearest one, and it hung in the air for a moment, before shadows burst from inside of it. The shadowy tendrils of the cloak wrapped themself around the man, and the cloak itself seemed to latch onto him as he began screaming from the sudden assault. The screams would not last long however, as the man would fall dead on the ground, cloak fluttering silently onto his corpse, covering up the thousands of cuts that had been driven deep into his skin on all areas of his body.

The one responsible? The little girl in front of them, who was out for blood. She wiped a bit of blood from her own mouth, having exerted herself pretty badly, and probably doing that very sloppily compared to an expert. She was sure that she had cut herself by accident a couple of times in the maneuver. But it didn't matter. One down, three more to go.

"Come catch me if you can, you scumbags," she muttered, panting.

"Wait, buddy-!" He called, worried for the girl's well being, and trying to hurry from behind- But truth was that she was overwhelmingly quick, to the point it would be nearly impossible for Hanno to completely track her movements if it wasn't for his enhanced guardian abilities-

The sight he had, however, was a very surprising one. Despite the predicament the girl was just a few seconds ago, she was already fighting back with the ferocity and fighting spirit of a true warrior. Hanno would be lying if he said that didn't make his heart race in a similar determination the girl had, with a grin crossing his lips as he rushed.

"Wh-What the hell! A magia!"

Upon the realization, one of the guards hissed an insult under his breath, while another seemed to hesitate, but for long until one of them roared-

"Don't falter, men, kill her!"

The man charged in, raising his blade to go in for a thrust-

Taunting (546)

"Only over my dead body!"

Hanno, in a sprint as he finally caught up, hurried and shoved himself in front of the panting magia girl, bashing the guard with his shield, that slipped an outworldly cackle

"Ku ku ku..."

The guard staggered and stumbled backward and struck another guard that nearly fell, feeling dizzy as the vibration of the armor upon the impact threw them off, along with the sight of the dissonant beast that echoed in the faerin's shield.

"Another monster?!"

Despite the impact and the strong enemies, the resolve of the guards remained, with one attempting to charge in for a thrust, aiming for Hanno and his shield.

The faerin tried to avoid the hit, but the sword connected into the gaps of his armor, making the faerin wince before throwing a kick on the side of the man's leg, nearly twisting his joint and pushing him away, but not quickly enough to defend himself from another thrust.

Ghast, the shield, tried to slap away the blade, which was enough to avoid a fatal strike, but it still struck Hanno's leg, followed by a gritting teeth and a suppression of a yelp. His gaze grew more focused as the danger seemed to increase, and soon he noticed the next guard, this one going for a bolder move, trying a wide attack to strike both him and the magia.

"Get off-" He roared, forcing his body to the side, again in front of the magia, slamming the shield against the blade to deflect the attack going for her, while the blade ran against his arm, forcing another gasp out of Hanno's lips as he stomped the feet on the ground to firm his protective stance.

"I already said- Only over my dead body." Hanno huffed, soon showing a determined grin.

The guards, annoyed by the determined grin, momentarily forgot the true danger of that room: The deadly magia that was behind the faerin and the frame of his shield.

Kat hadn't expected for her new knight friend to be able to keep up, much less get in front of her and defend her. The girl had fully expected to just try to outrun these guys. But the knight stood between her and the guards and was absolutely hammered by them. Kat couldn't help but wince and feel bad for the actual pummeling that took place in front of her.

And yet, despite it all, the knight still seemed determined and overall just fine. Kat couldn't help but be impressed. But, he had done his job. Now it was Kat's turn. Much of the rust she had developed over being gone for so long had fallen off, but she still activated the Auto Assist just to be safe, before tuning herself into overdrive.

Every shadow she could call in the small hallway, she called to herself. She pulled from the candles, dim light of the sun outside, even the glint of the armor of the guards in front of her. She called the shadows, and then used them to snuff out the lights all around them. No candles, no sun, no glint. Just darkness enveloping all of them.

Everything was still, and quiet for what felt like an eternity. You could hear the heartbeat of every occupant in the room, even if you couldn't see them. Until one by one, those heartbeats stopped. All but the last of the four, who Kat held onto and whispered in his ear, "I'm not trapped in here with you. You're trapped in here with me."

The man screamed and managed to shake the Magia from his back, though took a very nasty cut in the shoulder as he did so. A cut that was absolutely intended for his neck, as the other two guards had had done to them, their lifeforce draining all over the prison floor. The remaining guard stumbled backwards into the Knight, who Kat allowed to see once more, letting some light back into the room.

"He's all yours, big guy." Kat said to the knight with a wink.

The darkness that had engulfed them kept Hanno in the dark for a moment, even if his shield rumbled, letting out a low chuckle as she knew exactly what was happening.

The Faerin's ear twitched at the sound of the blades sinking deep into the guard's skins, and as he braced himself, the sudden return of light was met with a man stumbling toward him, and a wink that said everything he needed to know.

When the guard stumbled on Hanno, they drew their sword, still attemping to charge after the girl.

"Y-You little-!"

The guard gritted their teeth with a shaky voice, raising their blade to try and slice the magia, but Hanno fluttered his wings to get some height as he wrapped his arm around their neck pulling them down, forcing them to arch down and even strangling them momentarily and ignoring the pain of the blade cutting his arm as a consequence of his abrupt pull.

"Not so fast!"

The guard could barely hiss an insult, and Hanno soon rotated his waist, clenching his stance firmly and transferring the weight of the guard over his back, lifting them off the ground and rotating again to fiercely slam the guard against the hard floor in a finishing koshi gumura throw.

An echoing sound of the metal armor clashing against the stone floor and the rolling helmet called the end of the combat.

Breathless, Hanno finally felt the pain of the battle get to him, taking a couple steps back and resting his back against one of the cells, trying to recover his breath. "They... They were sure tough as hell, damn it... I thought I had managed to sneak in without them seeing me..."

His shield narrowed her large central eye, staring at him with what almost seemed like a 'frown'. The disbelief in her eye was clear.

"What..? I tried to be as quiet as possible." Hanno sighed, resting the back of his head against the surface, and slowly looking toward the magia. "... That was a close one, huh..? You are very strong... Are you alright?"

Kat winced as she watched the guard get thrown to the ground. She was pretty sure that the knight had broken the man's neck. Not that it was necessary, the man was already nearly dead. But it did the job.

As he leaned up against the wall, Kat looked him over. He was playing it cool and collected, but he was slashed all over his body, and even without an HP bar Kat could tell he was not doing great. Unfortunately for him, Kat had nothing in the way of healing.

But what Kat found most interesting was the shield. She had never seen anything like it in the game thus far, it seemed to act and have a will of its own. She found herself not yet answering the man's question, and instead admiring the floating object as it interacted with the man. It had an eye and everything. She wondered if it was also a player and if players could be turned into objects, or even choose to become them in this game.

But, she couldn't ignore the man's question forever. She looked at her own body and the various cuts and scratches on her. They were present, but not very deep, the black blood seeping into the pink kimono in spots, staining it. She had almost forgotten her Magia blood was black, and that had startled her for a moment. She wondered what else she had forgotten about the race she picked. More than that, she wondered why the race she chose was so important to these men.

She locked eyes with the knight, still ignoring his question, "Why were those men trying to kill me? I get that the one was a pervert, but when we killed him, shouldn't the rest of the guards have stopped? But they were determined to kill us too..."

Kat folded her arms over her chest, looking around the jail. Once an Adventurer's Guild waystation, it was now a jail... seemingly specifically for Magia. "Where did the Adventurer's Guild go? Do they hate Magia too?" she asked, remembering all the good (and scary) times she had during the Red Fever event. She was pretty sure the knight didn't also hate Magia, which was at least one point in her favor. But she clearly had to be careful for the moment until she figured all this out.

Finally, she answered the man's question, "I'm fine. Though you look like you need a doctor. Unfortunately, I don't do any healing. Will you be okay?"

@Kat Otsu's silence only wasn't concering thanks to the fact her eyes lingered in Hanno's shield, something he knew that would catch anyone's attention. But eventually, she began talking, and even if she didn't respond Hanno right away, he didn't mind it, recovering his breath enough to communicate properly. "Long story short, a lot of things happened. And the Landers now hate magia with more passion than they hate faerins." He rested a hand on his chest for emphasis. "This place isn't an Adventure Guild anymore... And your words only confirm to me that it used to be one. I guess the info I got was right, after all." Hanno sighed.

"I will... Thankfully I didn't get fatally wounded, otherwise my... Uh... Faerin ability would've triggered." Hanno smiled awkwardly, not wanting to show the verocity a faerin could have when their sin activated. But this was thankfully a non-issue for now. "I have some divine magic to recover. I may take a bit..." He eventually gave in, allowing himself to slide his back against the cell and sit down with bending legs, fluttering his wings and releasing a soft teal dust, that soon made a faint cloud on his surroundings.

The cloud touched his wounds, soothing and closing them, slowly. His eyes then returned to the girl's.

"I guess you don't intend to run away. So feel free to come and recover a bit too." He invited her to approach the divine, cloud of fae dust that surrounded him. "Name is Hanno, by the way. Hanno Futaba." Hanno rested a hand on his shield. "And her name is-"

"... Ghast..."

The shield completed, in a gutural and female voice, and Hanno smile faintly. "If you want to know more about the long story, I can tell ya."

Kat stood and watched the man as he slumped over, clearly in pain after the ordeal. She couldn't just watch him struggle down to the floor, so she ran over to offer what little help she could as he got himself into a sitting position. As she did so, she was engulfed by the dust that the knight expunged from his wings. Once she was sure he was in a comfortable position, she moved to sit in a seiza position in front of him, watching him explain his name and the shield.

Her eyes lit up a bit in wonder when the shield said her name, and she was certainly interested in it but wasn't sure this was the best time for such a story... even if the healing would take a bit. She looked down at herself as she watched the various cuts and scratches start to mend, though the unfortunate black stains and tears remained on her kimono. A consistent reminder that she really needed to remember to bring a change of clothes for future adventures.

Letting go of that thought for the moment though, she smiled at the knight, hoping that his strange dust was helping him, and smiled at the shield, before introducing herself as, "Kat Otsu. I... was a member of the Adventurer's Guild, back when this was still one of their waystations. I suppose I still might be, provided they haven't removed my name from the books or anything."

She fidgeted with her sleeves as she talked, not exactly sure what else was really necessary information right this second. The man had referred to the NPCs as Landers, which meant that he was another player, so she figured she was safe to talk to him about the game as an MMO. "I just logged back into the game today for the first time after a year. Last time I played was shortly after the Red Fever expedition," she explained, not entirely sure how much that would actually mean to the man, especially if he wasn't playing the game around that time, but she at least had to try to make things a bit more clear.

"All of this is by accident for me, but you seem to be here with purpose... so, I don't know how much time we can really spend just... chatting. I also don't want to risk more guards showing up," Kat explained, looking over her shoulder back to the stairway where the guards had come from.

"Kat. It is nice to meet'cha. I only wished it was in a better situation than... Well.. That." Hanno huffed, throwing a glare at the fallen rotund man and the other guards. It was a terrible situation overall, ant the worst part was that it wasn't even completely done yet.

"I'm not sure how the Adventurers Guild handle inactive members, but... One year? Since Red Fever? No wonder you are out of the loop, buddy." Hanno crossed his arms, watching the girl's mannerisms, and wondering just how someone that had just managed to swiftly kill a bunch of guards was looking so fidgety right now upon relying some information to him.

Was that what people called 'gap moe'?

As she reminded they didn't have much time, however, he nodded, but spoke as he waited at least for his wounds to close and for him to recover a bit. "Yeah, we don't have much time. The Landers, especially the ones from Falderen, are 'witch hunting' magias because of a problem we had in Astorea... A powerful magia, Szofrit, went rogue and destroyed Finnweald and killed a lot of people... And turned many others into magia or magia cores... That are essentially the hearts magias have." He tapped his chest for emphasis, finally gathering strength to stand, stretching a bit to check his conditions before looking at @Kat Otsu and offering a hand for her to stand if she needed, then taking his shield with his other hand.

"And I've heard some magias were here, being locked down to be... 'Done' some confidential activities with them. I just... Hope it wasn't what nearly happened to you." His lips pursed. "Regardless... Unless I'm too late, there are other magias to save. We may be low on time, if you want to be out of this, the escape route is there." Hanno pointed at the 'window'. "I've set a camp to the north, near the base of a mountain. You can hide there if you need a escort to the nearest safe town later... Otherwise... You are free to come with me. But be careful."

Kat wasn't sure how much she liked the fact that this knight called her "buddy." She knew she had designed her character to be cute and childlike, but she was still a grown adult and a girl to boot. Usually "buddy" was something for boys. However, she let it slide for now, as there were more pressing matters than whatever this knight wanted to refer to her as.

Kat was shocked to hear that the Magias had been a part of such a brutal massacre, and it made her stomach turn to know that she could have been a part of it too if she hadn't been gone. She wondered what would have happened to her in that kind of chaos. The Red Fever was chaos, but it was isolated in the jungle. This was chaos on a terrorist scale, where lives were lost. Kat shuddered slightly after listening to the explanation, before looking at the hand being offered to her.

She hadn't even seen @Hanno Futaba stand up, let alone come to help her, spaced out as she was. Regardless, she took the hand that was offered and popped back up to her feet, listening as Hanno explained his mission here. Once again, she was offered a way out. She didn't give him an immediate answer. She pulled her sleeves down, looking at the mechanisms on her wrist, flexing her hand and the pull mechanism to test the blades on each hand, and patting down her kimono of all the dust, even if she couldn't do anything about the stains.

Finally, she looked back to the knight, her mind having been made up long before she even knew what was going on. "Why would I leave? Nobody deserved what almost happened to me. I'll help you." She smiled at Hanno, an innocent smile this time, full of joy and life and willingness to do the right thing. "Lead the way. I'll be with you, even if you don't know I'm there..." she said with a giggle, not elaborating any further for the knight.

His eyes lingered on the girl's injuries and the cloth damage, frowning his lips as one more time his mind thought of what could have happened, and what did happen to the magia that were hostage of that situation. They needed to be quick to help them, and upon Kat's decision to go with him, Hanno couldn't help but feel both conflicted, worried, but also very happy and grateful.

"Thanks! I will compensate your help, hopefully helping you to get a new kimono... And well, a bit more information than the one our narrow time is allowing me to give to you." Hanno's tone was a bit apologetic. He felt like he was tugging the girl into a fight she wasn't completely aware of, but he wouldn't disrespect the trust she was giving to him. Even if he had saved her, she truly seemed inclined to help, rather than just doing it because she 'owed him one' or any weird talk Hanno wasn't fond of.

Raising his posture, Hanno's wings fluttered once again, making the curative dust retreat to his wings, and an encouraging aura to grow around him as his determined spirit rose beamed once again.

"In that case, let's go. I will be with you too, so go wild." He winked with a grin, pushing his shield forward and taking the vanguard, rushing ahead and already trying to figure out the path they would need to take to find the magia that needed them so much.

In this Homebrew, Pull, Push and Carry are Base Bonus Actions (Everyone has access to them, by default).

Pull & Push

Carry
Base, Bonus

You may carry a target that is in the same zone as you. Carrying a target costs the double of your movement and your carried target is not affected by the zone hazards (unless specified otherwise).

A target can only be affected by a carry once per Cycle.

Bonus. You carry 1 target.

Main. You carry 2 targets.

Cover
Base, Bonus

You cover your an ally in the same zone as you from an incoming damage. When covering an ally, you take part or all of the damage the targeted ally would take as flat damage. You may choose two options when using this bonus action:

Partial Cover. You split the damage in half between the you and your covered ally. (They receive normal damage, and you receive flat damage).

Like a 1d20 to a Presence Check by using Primal Aura, or a 1d20 to an Awareness Check using a relevant Enhanced Sense, or an 1d20 to a Knowledge Check related to your Homebound skill. More abstract effects can be achieved such as managing to endure not drowning using Amphibious, or attracting a metal object or unit with Magnestism, or the Keyless that may summon a portal that can trigger multiple different events.

Kat didn't want to sit around and mince words, so when @Hanno Futaba made his way, Kat was right behind him. He was the vanguard, keeping a lookout, but Kat was focused on the path and making sure that nothing snuck up on them. As they left the jail and ran their way to follow the very obvious path left by the jailers to the execution site, Kat kept looking for any traps they may have left behind on said obvious path.

Either these jailers were completely inept, or they completely expected someone to follow them, and while Kat may not be the smartest all the time, she was smart enough to know that it was probably the latter. The sunlight was dim in the farmland, with heavy cloud cover around them, and so Kat made it a point to augment their path with shadows, making anyone watching for them see an almost mirage-like shadow moving in the dim light, barely there. It wasn't as easy as Kat would have liked considering how flashy Hanno's armor was, with the sunlight glinting off the metal in even the most dim of light.

She kicked the Auto Assist into overdrive, making sure that Hanno was the one who got the brunt of the shadow cover as they ran, muffling his steps and obscuring him more completely than herself, but not so much that he was not able to see and keep their heading.

"Do you see them yet?" she whispered to the man, trailing him as best as she could while also trying to focus on what she was doing to hide them.

TORTURE AND EXECUTION CHAMBER
Time: Early Evening
Weather: Cold

Their path toward the room they needed to find was smooth, and when @Kat Otsu questioned Hanno if he had heard anything, his lips pursed. "Not yet... But..." His ears then perked up, at sounds that echoed from a particular corridor, followed by a scream that only urged him to hurry.

"Here, quick-!" He hissed, rushing along with the girl that was probably much quicker than him.

As they went through the corridor, the half-open door allowed the voices of those who were inside of the room to escape fully.

"When... When I put my hands on you!"

He struggled against the binds that locked him on the table, with the 'surgery' apparatuses resting next to him, just waiting for it to be used, just like it happened on his friend, that struggled to stay on his feet as he was pulled by a Jailer.

"Pl-Please, no... That hurts..."

The magia had his body severely wounded, with wounds that weren't mere signs of fight, but rather of pure cruelty... But also, it was too cold, so perhaps it was with a more objective intention, even if lacked any regards for his well being or safety.

"Keep going. Or hurt will even more-"

The voice of the Jailer was gruff, but also nasal, with broken words.

It didn't take long for a magia, that was tied to a chair, struggle and yell in fear for her friend's safety.

"Let him go already! Let us go, what's wrong with you- Mmph?!"

The magia's mouth was silenced by the Executioner with a cloth, soon wrapped around her mouth. The same occurred the other magia that was on a 'table', after the mage signed for them to do it.

"You, or his freedom aren't up for negotiation... He may be a bad sample we can't use, but we can't let your kind to wander freely. My apologies... But he, and you eventually, must die."

With a nod, the Mage silently and non-chalantly released the order to cease the life of the magia.

"..."

The magia struggled on the Jailer's grip, but he only received retaliation upon it, with a knee slammed on his side, he lost all his breath, and his neck was shoved against the bucket, exposed for the Executioner, that without mustering a single word, rose their axe with the intention to swing it down to finish that dirty job they had.

Hopeless, the magia clenched his eyes shut, while his friends struggled and had their yells muffled.

And by then, the duo had got in front of the door just in time, as long as they didn't waste any second-

Passives:
  1. Mage deal take 10% of their current SP in damage as retal whenever she is attacked.
  2. Mana Shield. The Mage mitigates HP damage by a value equal to her current SP, whenever the dice roll of the attack is an odd value.

You may remake your Build Sheet.

You may do all your actions. Because you are catching them by surprise, any RETALIATION passive won't take effect this Cycle.

To free any Magia, you must spend an Action (except Free Actions), inside the Zone they are to do so. Saving the Magias will grant you certain bonuses, and some may act as a distraction for you.

Build Sheet

In this Homebrew, Pull, Push and Carry are Base Bonus Actions (Everyone has access to them, by default).

Pull & Push

Carry
Base, Bonus

You may carry a target that is in the same zone as you. Carrying a target costs the double of your movement and your carried target is not affected by the zone hazards (unless specified otherwise).
