Kyra

She'd originally arrived at the camp with the intent of helping those around the area with rebuilding. Which is not to say that she hadn't managed to do some of that - but with the constant pull towards the fields beyond, the need to deal with numerous creatures and things outside of the camp itself, Kyra had found her actual help around the camp limited.

She put down the pieces that she'd been relocating - materials for a medical centre that she was hoping to get up and running, although few others seemed to care about it. She heard the clatter of glasses within the cases, wincing at the sound but certain that nothing had broken. She sighed softly as she settled down beside the cases, taking a moment to relax. She'd been working for several hours already, having started early in the morning. It hadn't seemed to matter what time she came online, there was always work being done in the camp - as if there was always a hive of activity.

Her eyes shifted over the camp, taking in the numerous different individuals moving around - some she'd started to get to know over the past few days, some she'd yet to meet - and a small few she knew from her different experiences in the game itself; not just at the camp. It still amazed her how many she'd come to know...and the connections she'd been making in the game itself.

Her eyes lit up as she saw someone she recognised, the red-haired individual ducking into a side-alley. Kyra hopped to her feet, grabbing the two dark grey cases by the handles and stumbling after the man she'd spotted. It didn't take her long to catch him, winding through a few back alleys that she'd come to know in her time here, calling out as she approached.

"Zel...Zelrius? That is you! How've you been? It's been a little while since the whole slimeodile incident, have you recovered? Do you need any extended care? How about your wounds, did they close over nicely? Here, let me look!"

Without waiting for any confirmation, she placed her cases down - the glasses inside tinkling slightly again in protest - before pulling at @Zelrius' clothing to get a better look at his skin.

Alice's arrival at the camp had not bode well for her expedition to Camp Nisus thus far. Having been met with two very upset, arguing players. Despite the best efforts of herself and two others to help the two players come to an understanding about their differences, Alice still couldn't be sure if they had successful primarily because that thread is still ongoing.

At least since then she'd had sometime to accurately assess the camp's condition, and the resources they had on hand. Analysis: the camp was in utter disrepair, and they did not have nearly enough manpower, nor supplies to bring it's operational status up to fully functional. Wandering about had only proven that the others within this camp were also ready to lash out at each other, particularly if they were from different factions, furthering reducing the chances of improving the camp's conditions. Tensions were high.

Evidently, this also included sexual tension, for as Alice continued to examine the camp, she camp upon a red-haired man, and a shorter beast-woman, who was attempting to undress him. "I would not advise copulating in a public space such as this," Alice interrupted the two. "It is my understanding that such a public display is highly frowned upon by most modern cultures." The girl spoke in an impassive tone, devoid of emotion as she looked at them blankly. Almost as if she were analyzing them as well. "Also it is highly unsanitary."

Just as Isulus was rife with humidity, Camp Nisus seemed to be rife with competent adventurers. So rife in fact that work was just as difficult to find as it wasn't.

Perhaps that bears some explanation.

Every time the upbeat, magician-clad woman offered her assistance in some corner of the camp, she was turned away for either her own safety or because somebody else was more preferable. Jester couldn't blame them, either. After all, she was a magicless E-Rank Starcalled with no UI. Even she wouldn't be too thrilled at the prospect of taking her along, and she was her! She fell into a frustrating loop of finding work to do, only to have the help fulfilled practically seconds later, though it didn't knock the smile off of her face. At the end of the day, she wasn't in any danger or breaking her back doing hard work, so why complain?

Hours passed, and Jester took a seat atop a rise which once held a tent above the range of risk during floods. She hummed quietly to herself.
"It feels like more work
trying to find work to do
than doing the work."
Satisfied with her simple and relatable haiku, she kicked one leg up and brought it down crossed over the other as she leaned back, propped up on her hands.

Irony seemed to have a leg up on Jester this evening. The more she sought work, the less she found, but now that she was resting she found something that prompted her to kip down off of her newly acquired perch and race forth. The stalwart and magicless magician was more than willing to admit aloud that the reason she had no masteries was because only certain ones captivated her interest in terms of what she was willing to put the time and effort into studying versus how capable and helpful she would be by the end of what most people would colloquially call 'her build'. She had even began to feel so desperate as to compromise on one of her options just to have something to throw at the baddies when people asked her to.

If she caught this man now, she could ask him to get her on the right track instead, so she sprinted forth with the drive and energy one would expect from such a peppy-looking elf. She neared a construction zone ahead, but that wouldn't slow her down. Instead she twisted ninety degrees as she planted her foot into the moist, mossy ground and drifted the way she had been running until she took off directly at her target. The man with such strikingly red hair, among the tallest frames in the camp, was unmistakable. As she closed in, there was just one problem: she didn't know his name.

It made things a bit more awkward and difficult, but not impossible. Before the man could take another step to commit to whatever business he actually had in camp, Jester came to a skidding stop across the ground as she slammed right into him with what speed she hadn't quite dismissed. Not enough to cause anyone but the elf herself pain--perhaps more the sort of annoyance reminiscent of someone not paying attention at the grocery store as they hit you with their cart and thankfully miss your ankles.

With little care to waste the awkward situation she had caused as she caught the man in what was effectively a hug for a few seconds to keep them from falling over, she looked up at him and took a half-step back, tilting her hat up quickly with her left hand as she grinned and looked him right in the eyes. "I'm sorry, Sir, to pester, but I saw your Dynamism! Would you please invest in Jester and her quest of altruism?" She rhymed quickly and expressively, if not in body language then with intonation.

As she put a more socially acceptable distance between herself and this total stranger, she continued to plead her case. "I know I have no masteries, and everything at E, but that's how it'll always stay if no one teaches me!" She clasped her hands together, showing her elective drama credit at work. "I won't expect protection. I'll stay out of harm's way, or stay and fight with you: however you want to play!" She blinked twice, then put her right hand on her hip while the other adjusted her hat to be in its less tilted position.

With little but her intricate magician-inspired outfit and a staff she could probably hit people with, the elf was indeed a worrisome pull for a group adventure. If nothing else though, she had a killer smile, and radiated an upbeat energy as permeating as the fungi in the forest of Isulus surrounding them.

-- -- --

After whatever spiel and practice the red-haired man gave Jester, she was more than willing to cooperate. The sad fact of the matter was that whatever venture involved leaving the camp also involved danger, so she had to go find a more practical weapon. Jumping in with no armor and an over-glorified stick was no way to take on the world, especially with the one life she had remaining. That was why she went to do a bit of foraging while the man gathered a more experienced party to round things out--you know, raise the average power level of the party a little bit.

This place was full of all sorts of plants, both vibrant and dull, harmless and predatory, edible and poisonous. Sterile and explosive. For all the time she spent getting turned down from work, she spent just as much time listening to people so she could actually halfway know what she was doing, much less getting herself into in general. No one had really briefed her directly, but she knew how to put two and two together, as any future teacher should.

Thus, Jester spent some tens of minutes gathering an "explosive" mushroom. While it wasn't actually combustible by any means, such a mushroom would cause it to violently explode into a small storm of spores, and that was at least twice as impeding as bopping something on the head with a stick really hard. She only needed a few, and thankfully too, since they were such a pain to come by without asking someone for an already collected one.

Makeshift weapons gathered, she began skipping gleefully back to her soon-to-be instructor, arriving only after the other two had. Whatever was going on was a bit too PG for her from the sounds of it, so she dared not to actually get involved, but stood in line of sight for the one person in the party who recognized her to see her. Easily at that, with how bright and vibrant she was against the dull backdrop of the half-decimated camp around her.

A gloved hand reached up to wipe the sweat onto the back of his hand. The tangleweaves were humid, and hot, and practicing all day hitting a testing dummy and sparring with Creature exacerbated the collecting heat on his skin. He stepped away from his friend to drink from some water, resting from the fight of fire and speed, trying to outmaneuver the man's massive shield and sword, and failing at it this time. He'd just need to keep getting better. Another day at Camp Nisus, Zelrius wondered what it was he was going to do as the morning waned, and the afternoon began to dawn on the encampment and fortification. There was always monsters encroaching and running around wildly that needed take care of. Or perhaps he could try and mediate, and bridge the gaps that were created by the Fever. It brought his mind away, thinking about Moonsong, and how moody she was the day before. Something had changed about the ashen skinned woman. She was different, more irritable, more down putting. That wasn't who he had met. The tying thought being that for a moment, the red-haired man had thought that perhaps it had been connected to Red Fever. A lingering scar to whatever damage it had done.

He dumped the water onto his head, soaking his hair and washing away any lingering sweat, whipping his gaze back and forth to shake it off and cool himself off. That was enough to be done here for now, it was time to get on with his day. A small wave to his sparring partner before the man turned and melted deeper into the camp, weaving by boxes and makeshift 'buildings' as well as those going about their days. The light footsteps running behind him were heard first, his ears immediately pulling back at the intention of the feet. Neck wheeled, the man pivoted on his ankle just in time to have his chest ran into with a small pat of force, her hitting him, though barely enough to do anymore than make the adventurer knee-jerk react with a single step back. Instinctively, his hands went up to meet her elbows and balance the two of them, stopping either from stumbling or moving around more.

He blinked, amazed by the way the impressively dressed stranger-elf had wasted no time in getting to the point, meeting him all with grin, pointed hat, and a rhyme to her sentence. It was, charming and the man couldn't help but return the friendly energy, already infected by her peppy, bubbly demeanor. His hands let go, letting her take a step of separation and go on, even though Zelrius was more than ready to agree as was, but she went on to explain. More rhymes followed, making every sentence a sort of fun riddle, though confirming that she wasn't just trying to get his attention with it - this is actually how the woman talked. "Protection...?" He wondered out loud with a lifted eyebrow, blue eyes staring at the girl. He wasn't going to teach her by just throwing her into the deep end, especially not as an all E Rank. A note that told him that she was a traveler, though that in itself was surprising, since the woman seemed very Landerish.

That thought was shaken away, Zelrius nodding in agreement and taking another step back so that there was room to show. "You want to learn about Dynamism, huh? I suppose you haven't used it at all?" A venture to guess, by the way she hadn't used it to catch up with him. Did this chick even have any masteries? "It's... kinda tough to explain. When I first started, I kind of just let the auto-assist take over when I wanted to activate it. But since then, I have learned a few neat tricks. He braced back, letting the ball of bone and muscle at the front of his feet do the heavy lifting, his left heel finding a box behind him to flatten itself on. "The main trick is to focus on the movement itself, but not to think about it too hard. You have to want the agility that comes with it. No different than if you were trying to win a race, or catch up to someone." Teasing about the way she had ran up to and crashed into him. The truth was, everyone did it differently, and Zelrius's own use of Dynamism came from a total unwillingness to hesitate. To let life and oppurtunity pass him by. Someone who was motionless mentally, and whose body wouldn't stand for it physically in this world.

The demonstration came in a moment after he was done speaking, pressing off from the box and using the momentum to leap up onto the side of one of the make shift buildings nearby, a column of fire lashing out from the point where his foot made contact and trying its best to keep up, propelling him forward with speed that would a flash of lightning to characters who went with other Alters. And then letting himself slide back down the structure to hit ground level. "Alters are enhancements, they're difficult to use on their own. You might be able to run fast, jump higher for a bit, but it is so much easier if you have something to give that extra kick to. For me, it's Pyromancy, but something else might match you differently." Trying to explain the difficulty of using an Alter Mastery by itself, with nothing to Alter but your own limitations. "Try it for yourself, if you're feeling good about that small lesson!"

She seemed to get it, the woman who he was now investing in called Jester. Rearing back and being able to dash forward the way that he had. And then another try, and she had done the same leap he had, jumping nearly four feet up, and back down. He couldn't help but clap with a loud "Yeah! Like that." Excited for her, happy that his teaching was awful, and she seemed to get the hang of the idea. Though, how that'd manifest down the line as her alter and personality would be interesting to see.

He turned away, gesturing her to come along, and making note to point over her shoulder to the stick in her possession. "You'll want something with a bit more force than that. I can lend you one of my swords, or maybe you could find a bo-staff like that with a metal core. So that it doesn't break on you on the first hit. I can take you out to fight some Myconids. Or maybe the Jade Jaguars." He thought for a moment, wondering which would be better. See Jester agree, they parted ways, Zelrius headed back to the mushroom through a string of alleys to grab another one of the papers. Zigzagging through before another distraction made itself known.

This one he knew the name of, and so far had been getting to know quite well. Ambushed by the way Kyra, the foxgirl that ripped apart her own soul to help and heal others. His heart sank seeing her in light of that, yet - she was nothing but sweet to him, and so it made it hard to fight back the twinge of fondness. "Hey Kyra!" He waved back, taking a step back as she got closer. "No, no extra care needed. That really isn't necessary!" His voice picked up the way she brazenly reached up to pull aside his dark coat and white undershirt, light and airy as it was. Easy to pull the sleeves up on, or see under the collar of with the one button undone. He could feel the heat in his face rising, hands snapping to her wrist to try and stop the insistent support in her endeavor. "Your healing was great, it's you who was banged up after the last adventure." The pyromancy protested, trying to fight the urge to just pick her up and move her away.

The situation was made worse, another distraction made itself from the wood work. a monotone woman, suggesting that they shouldn't copulate. She was right about one thing, this was neither the time nor the place, and - Wait! "That's not where we're doing. I promise she's just weird." He called out jokingly, still trying to separate from Kyra. "What is it that either of you want anyway? Why are you still here Kyra?" And the other one didn't seem to be much in combat ready, though maybe she was a mage type. Anything to distract from the situation at hand. His eyes looked past Alice (who he didn't know the name of) and found Jester, who seemed to find him back.

He reached a hand up to wave to her. "Hey! You ready for some Jaguars? I need to get the hell out of camp." Trying his best to not make either the foxgirl or the not-a-robot feel bad, but needing some fucking way out of this whole situation, and to stop being sidetracked.

She turned her head to glance at the voice as it made its suggestion, her mind still focused on checking Zelrius for any signs of major injuries, or improperly healed areas. Her answer came as if from a distance as first, as her mind was slow to catch up on the commentary.

"Yeah there's none of that...and its not that unsanitary...in face its more sanitary to do it outdoors, where any excess-"

Her face suddenly went bright red as her eyes went wide and her mouth slammed shut, sudden realisation at what the other had stated, as well as what she had just said aloud. For a moment she stood; mouth hanging open, hands still raised to pull at Zelrius, and a look of embarrassed fear upon her face as she registered everything.

"I...I mean...I...that's not...not...that's..."

Almost instantly she turned and stared at the nearest wall, hands still held before her as her voice turned autonomous in response. Behind her, her tail stood straight out, the fur splayed in every direction as her ears folded down against the top of her head.

"Jaguars...did someone say jaguars? That sounds fun. Let's go do the jag-let's go fight some jaguars."

Without waiting for any of the others, Kyra turned and began walking towards the edge of the camp, moving with a haste that hadn't been there before. She ducked her head as she went, trying to hide herself from the world as she continued to rush away in humiliation at what had just occurred.

While the red-haired man reacted with emphatic denial, the fox-girl appeared to begin to shut down, slowly beginning to wander off, while muttering something or other about jaguars. "It appears that the fox-lady has broken," Alice observed. "Does she require nutrients? Sleep?" Had Alice read the situation incorrectly? Or had she said something that was undue?

Though, when the man called out past Alice, to a girl standing some ways behind her, it all seemed to click for the girl. "I apologize if I have caused you any trouble," the blue-haired girl said to the man, bowing slightly before him. "I had only hoped to spare you any trouble with whatever authorities hold jurisdiction in this region." Though given the state of the camp currently, it was entirely possible that the powers at be would not be available to handle most crimes that would occur at present. "I did not intend to interrupt or unveil any adultery. Though I must advise against having affairs without your significant other's consent. Statistically, this almost always leads to failed relationships."

Both seeing and hearing the situation quite clearly, Jester returned Zelruis's request with empathetic finger guns as her right hand held a satchel clasped in three fingers.

"We can leave whenever you'd like! And I've brought along a new way to strike!" With an enthusiastic grin, she gestured to the satchel. "A stun cloud to throw for decisive blows! I'm not great, but we'll see how it goes!" And enthusiastic thumbs up to the man whose name she didn't really ever get, she watched each of the other two and decided to get a word in with each. After all, silence was a wall, and she was here to break those. ... Wait, actually she was in camp to help build walls, wasn't she? Maybe that wasn't the best metaphor.

Regardless, she turned to the nearer first as the other scurried off--her newfound mastery would let her get to her in a moment. "I see there's tight tensions in this forest so sulfurous, but you won't catch the great magician Jester being adulterous!" She gave a finger gun to the sky with her free hand and flashed Alice a grin, then a wink. "We're about to send those jaguars to the Explorer's League abattoirs! Some extra hands would likely be best, so would you like to join our quest?"

Regardless of Alice's answer, she was ready to follow Zelrius and exercise her newly acquired mastery. At least, she assumed it was acquired! She didn't used to be able to move like she had been before today!

Zelrius continued to fight the woman for the brief moment before Kyra locked up, and her hands separated. In slow motion, her hands pulled away, and the man's fingers uncurled to let her go. His demeanor softened, watching the purple haired foxgirl turn away and mumble about the jaguars, and head for the gates. Zelrius looked over with wide eyes to Alice and Jester, feeling a level of the energy that had mounted be sucked out of him. "There was no adultery." He said to Alice, dismissing her apology with a wave, though thankful for it. It seemed @Kyra Vashtana was the one more in need of it regarding this misunderstanding than him. "I have my own wife outside of this game, not a relationship with either of these two." He went onto explain, adjusting his clothing to be back squarely on his own shoulders and clearing his throat.

A few steps outside of the claustrophobic alleyway, taking a look at what Jester had mentioned as a new way to strike. Were those... Manashrooms? The same thing they had used against the Golem as the Adventurer's guild. How was it that this Mastery-less woman knew that they could be used as throwable grenades. Blue eyes looked up to examine the wannabe-mage for a moment. She was more intelligent than the chipper rhyming, and being completely unarmed and unarmored let on. Alice was a lot less deceptive with who she was. And the Dynamism-Only Jester had invited her along, a sentiment that Zelrius now echoed, even if it was making for a rather large party when he had intended only a pair to start. "Yea, if you're able and bored, we're heading out now. Unless you advise against having fun too?" He joked with the blue haired woman and turning to catch up with the purple haired foxgirl.

He was ready to insist that she not come along. Now that he knew how her magic worked - a bizarre decision for someone playing the game for enjoyment to manifest their abilities. "Kyra!" He called out, getting up to her and pulling on her arm. Now face to face with her, what was he going to say? 'You can't play the game with me because your magic is weird and makes me uncomfortable?' How was that fair? It was her decision right. For a moment, the man could see the echo and visage of another person, a tall Elf that would laugh at something like that and tell him to fuck off.

The man was too weak, his expression softened, grip letting go. "...You ready?" He finally let out, trying to dispel the drama and invite her along. Turning to the others to wave them along, and hold out the parchment. "Anyone got any ideas on how to handle these little feline bastards?" Turning the conversation away to the quest at hand, and ready to start moving when Kyra and Alice were.

She felt the world slowly passing by, then suddenly twisting - only to end with her facing the man she'd just been accused of being adulterous with. She felt the heat pouring off her face, the embarrassment overshadowing any other feelings.

But before she could even think of saying anything, to try and clear the air, to make things more understandable...he asked if she was ready. Ready? Ready for what...?

There was a brief moment when questionable ideas flowed through her head, before she suddenly remembered the original concept of what they had been planning to do - the jaguars. She felt her embarrassment only grow, a strand of cursing pouring through her mind as she swore at her own stupidity. She barely caught the question Zelrius offered to the group, struggling for a moment to connect the words with reality, and provide an answser.

"Err...well, if they're anything like real, live jaguars, they'll be excellent hunters. Capable of ambushing prey without the targets even noticing. Silent, deadly, able to blend in with their environment almost perfectly..."

She let the words drift off for a moment as her brow furrowed in thought, trying to figure out the best plan of action. It came to her suddenly, and she felt her eyes shift to the others, a sudden look of worry on her face. When she spoke, her words came out haltingly, as if apprehensive to even bring them to life.

"Well...I do have one idea...but it may not be the best idea. They're excellent ambushers...right? So, it'll be hard to sneak up on them...but...what if we ambush the ambushers? Like...we'd have to set up bait...and wait for them to take the bait...and it would need to be something that would...err....attract them...which means..."

Which means one of us would need to be the bait... She left those words unspoken, however. She waited to see how the group would take the idea, before deciding whether or not to share the rest of the concept - assuming that no one else was able to come to the same conclusion as she was, at least.

Ah, so she had misread the situation. Quite badly, it appeared. "My apologies," Alice said, bowing once again to all present. "I should not be so presumptuous." Should she have felt a pang of guilt? Ridicule for being so socially inept? Alice wasn't quite sure, if she was to be honest. She knew she'd done those present a disservice, despite having the best intentions. But, as in all things, intention was only half the job.

Both the blonde-girl, with her strange manner of speech, and the tall man extended an offer to Alice for her to join them on their 'quest', as the blonde had put it. "'Fun' has been proven to be a necessity for maintaining one's mental well-being. I recommend it moderation," Alice replied first to the the red-haired man. "I am not very good at 'having fun', though."

Turning to the blonde, Alice then said, "If you all still wish it, I will gladly accompany you."

As it appeared that no one was too concerned with Alice's inability to have fun, the party set out, with Kyra reciting what she knew of jaguars and what might be a good method for luring them out. Ambushing the ambushers via using one of them for bait. This seemed like a sound plan, despite the inherent risks. "I will be the bait," Alice asserted. "I have the mastery 'Dynamism', which should allow me to evade any jaguar's attacks."

Zelrius just lifted an eyebrow to Alice's statement of struggling to 'have fun'. Looking ahead and blinking to himself. Only able to think something to the effect of 'You're playing a Video game, so clearly you're having some fun.' Though, he'd have to admit it was easy to lose sight of the fact that Terra was just a virtual world designed for fun. Since it acted more like a second life simulator at times. Especially with all the damn walking around from place to place. Two week cart rides headed to bug-infested jungles, and the like really put a damper on some of the excitement a fantasy world had to offer. Maybe that's what the monotone woman was referring to? A question for later.

The experienced adventure had been able to finish Kyra's sentence in his own head. It was obvious she was recommending that live bait was better, and it wasn't like any of them had a pocket antelope or giraffe to entice such a creature. So, one of them would need to be it. There was a want to not risk any of the others, and his mouth opened to offer himself as the bait, before Alice had beaten him to it. Divulging that she also had Dynamism. Which made three out of the four of them in possession of the speedy-run mastery. A long look at Jester, the man gauged that it was probably better someone else took it this time. The rhyme-smith having only just gotten her own, and the situation being dangerous.

"I like that idea." He finally let out, a hand on Kyra's back to say physically what he just had verbally.

That was a lie. It was a fine idea in theory, but meant someone might get mauled by Jaguars if the rest were not fast enough. - Unless... His eyes immediately lit up, piecing together their party composition. "Actually. As long as you keep out of sight, and in the bushes, Kyra. Then, Alice can stand there and wait for the kitties, maybe take a swipe or two. You heal her, and then Jester is able to throw her shroom-nades at them to ward them off. Then I can go in with my fire and poof - fight won!" That was a really solid strategy in his book. And would make for another amazing story to tell her when he was done for the day. Even more so if everything went to plan.

Blue eyes scanned the other three to see if they had any questions or interjections of their own. The look of all three reminding him just how ragtag this team was. Did Alice even have the health for that? Jester the aim? What about Kyra's spirit magic? Maybe the plan was stupid afterall, and one of them could come up with something better.

Jester tilted her head to the side in consideration as Alice proposed that she be the bait in Kyra's plan. On reflex, it was a bit concerning, but after everybody else seemed to be fine with it, she considered finally that it would be a great chance to observe a more practiced Dynamism user in action. Zelrius took charge, gave a plan, and the elf gave an enthusiastic nod. "I'll do my best. Let's make this fun~!" She chuckled. "Though admittedly, I'm a much better shot with a gun..."

"We should keep our eyes peeled, and make sure our hearts are steeled. This is quite the endeavor, and won't get any better if we don't take advantage of the field." She started looking around for somewhere to hide and made to get a height advantage without giving herself too many dead angles. She figured as she hurried off that if her own team didn't know where she was, there was no way the jaguars would find her either.

They'd begun deciding that Alice would be the bait, which in a way made sense. The other three had Dynamism in their arsenal, meaning that they could - likely - quickly escape the Jaguar's should they need to. It was a solid plan, in a sense. Yet Kyra couldn't help but speak up in disagreement.

"Actually...I was thinking that I should be the bait. You three have Dynamism, right? And sure that means you might be able to escape if you see them coming...but that's a big if. And let's be honest, when it comes to the actual fighting we want all three of you up and capable in order to take down the Jaguars. Which means...logically, I'm the weakest link - and therefore the best for bait. Besides, I can keep myself alive if I do get pounced, so long as they don't down me in the first hit..."

She paused a brief second, eyeing up each of the others in the group before making her final point. She hoped it would be enough to convince them - although the look on Zelrius' face made her question her success here.

"...also, I'm a fox. Beastfolk. I have good hearing, and a great sense of smell. Which means I'll be more likely to notice them coming, whereas you all are...well, no offence, but your senses aren't anywhere near as good as mine. So if we're speaking about who would be the best bait...it's obviously going to be me. Oh, and also, I'm a Beastfolk so I may smell more like food to them. So yeah. It should be me, not any of you."

She waited, knowing there'd be argument over her sudden pushback. Knowing that they'd likely spend some time debating - and maybe even entirely ignore her. But she felt like it was the right thing to do. She was the weakest link when it came to the group's combative capabilities. Everything she had said was true, it was just a matter of whether they viewed it as the best possible course of action or not.

While Jester and Zelrius both seemed fine with the idea of Alice playing the part of bait, it appeared that Kyra did not, quickly making an argument for why she should instead be the bait. "It is precisely because of the fact that you are a capable healer that it is wisest not to use you as bait," Alice countered. "We cannot afford to lose such a valuable resource. Additionally, I am equipped with both magitech and harmonics, allowing me to-" Alice stopped mid sentence as a rustling in the bushes alerted her to some form of danger.

Pixels in the air just over her right shoulder lit up blue as a floating white mechanical cube manifested behind the girl, a vertical beam of light suddenly shooting out from the eye in it's center as it scanned the area.

"Alert level, green. No hostile signatures found," the cube reported.

"No, that must be incorrect..."

No sooner had Alice muttered the words did their quarry leap from the bushes lunging for her throat.

Alice flipped backwards, the golden teeth of the jaguar snapping a mere inch away from her vulnerable throat. "CUBE, instructions," she called to her strange automaton, who quickly began to scan the jaguar. Before the robot could provide any form of assistance however, the jaguar bounded away back into the brush, out of sight.

"Scan incomplete. Initial report indicates that it is most vulnerable in at the throat, underbelly, and beneath both forelegs."

She had just been about to open her mouth to argue the Magia's opinion, when the creature had leapt from the bushes, snapping at Alice's throat in an attempt to take down the girl. Somehow, she was moving without even thinking, the scythe blade running along her hand and creating the small slice that was required.

"May this sacrifice bring protection to those who suffer the harm of the undesirable..."

She muttered as she closed her eyes, casting forth the small flow of blood towards the creature and Alice, the thin line slicing across the creature's hide as it forced it back into the jungle, before swirling around Alice's frame, matching the Magia's movements almost naturally.

"I will not allow you to harm one of my kindred. Flee, before the fury that henceforth flows, or face the wrath that is born of blood-"

Her words were cut short as something slashed across her hip, the paw appearing and disappearing into the bushes beside Kyra before she could even properly turn to face it.

"Well, fuck you too...stupidprettykitty..."

The jaguars weren't the only ones on the prowl, as the elf had her own sneak attack at the ready. At least the enemy had shown itself. Now was her chance! She eagerly pulled one of the exploding spores out of her bag and- BOOF!

The spore exploded in Jester's hand and made her fall over dazed against the tree trunk as the predator got away. As the satchel full of compressed stun powder hung by the strap from her wrist, the spore-covered elf did her best to regain her senses. Fingers. She had those. Toes. Same deal. Ankles? Rotatable. Knees, she bent one carefully.

All the while her slowly recouping strength held up the bag at risk of falling at any moment. Then she heard it. A rustling in the foliage below. In her stunned state, was she really so silent that the ambush predator didn't even notice her? She wasn't going to be of much help for a minute, but she did have an idea. Something that could be of assistance to the others while she took a minute to snap out of her physical stupor.

She raised the bag just a bit, and then pulled her wrist out from the strap's clutch.

The satchel full of explosive shrooms fell, and there was a loud and colorful explosion beneath the tall tree Jester was in.

Do you take damage if the thing is fucking dead?

Zelrius was just as ready as Kyra to keep arguing. The look they had shared would probably have told the Foxgirl everything she needed to know about his opinion on that. The Pyromancer ready to object, and even hold Kyra back if need be. She didn't need to get hurt anymore, none of them did. It was too late. Alice seemed to be talking to her Cube, and then the Jaguar lunged out at the initial idea for bait. There was no time left for argument - The platinum ranked adventurer backed up immediately, disappearing into the bushes just like the enemy did. Now he waited for an opening, blue eyes peering from under furrowed brows, watching, waiting.

The Vixen jumped forward to defend the Robot woman. Nicking her hip with claws before disappearing just as quickly. Though, not without a nasty attack being returned by the girl. The Spirit caster had some kind of Blood Magic. Something Jin had shown the man once before, and he had thought it was creepy then. It was extra creepy now.

The train of thought was interrupted by the eruption of the Manashrooms used against the Golem. His neck turned, craning to find where the explosion had come from, before another set of them came out. Jester, inexperienced as she was had just dropped a veritable nuke on the creature, but left herself wide open to a counter attack. Zelrius could see it before his mind even had time to process it. Luckily, his feet were faster. Bursting forward from the bushes he was hiding in, a sudden eruption of flame to propel his body forward and intercept it before it could gouge the Rhyming girl.

He became a person-sized fireball in the motion, flame encircling his body and coming to an explosion on impact with the Jaguar. Unaware that it had already died from the Blood swipe, the shroom explosives, and the fact that it was just fire-body-slammed, Zelrius went to finish the job in his mind.

"BURN!" He commanded the Corpse, letting the heat rise in the air, and engulf them both in flames. A Trial that the Jaded enemy had long lost by now. Something the man wouldn't see until he let the fires simmer down, and burn out. Leaving him there heaving the smoked, dry air, his heartbeat trying to make up for the strength it had lost converting into cinder given form.

Scarlet red liquid flowed around Alice's form, creating a protective barrier between her and the Jaguar, it's sharp claws, intercepted by the blood of what Alice could only assume was Kyra, given her reciting. No more than a single long scratch down her upper arm had been inflicted on the Magia, black blood leaking from the wound.

There was no need to retaliate, however. The remainder of the party was quick to eliminate their foe, and not without a great showing. Subtlety, it seemed, was not their forte. A colorful several colorful explosions, pastel blues, pinks and yellow bloomed into the air as Jester dropped her veritable bomb on the their quarry, followed by the quick intervention of Zelrius finished what little remained.

When the smoke and dust cleared, all that was left of the jaguar was a smoldering, charred corpse, blackened by the heat of Zelrius' flames, and a paralytic-looking Jester. "Are you able to move?" Alice inquired, kneeling down before the mage as CUBE began to float around the girl, his scanner assessing her current condition.

Movement. A flare of light. And then silence, followed by a single sound - possibly a voice. Whatever it was, it didn't matter. Kyra strode towards the figure of the jaguar, scythe in hand as she pulled the flow of blood back around herself. Standing over the charred corpse, she looked down at it, a burning fury in her eyes as she remained silent, unmoving for a moment.

With no change in expression, she sent the circling flow of blood away from her body, and into the nasal cavity of the downed jaguar. For a moment, nothing seemed to happen, Kyra remaining silent as she stared down at the form, her expression blank. Then suddenly, she spoke.

"No one hurts my friends. You shall not hurt anyone. I am the bringing of death."

Kyra gave a quick flick of her wrist, and a sudden explosion as the blood of the charred corpse erupted from the body in an immediate flow, pouring out of every single orifice of the creature before pooling into the jungle floor around the body, stopping just before Kyra's feet.

She turned suddenly, looking at the other three, her expressionless face taking them in before suddenly erupting into a smile.

"You're okay...good! So, are we done here? Should we...should we head back?"

She gave a single, brief smile before turning and moving back down the pathway they had taken, heading towards the camp with a skip in her step.

Jester was certainly aware of what Kyra and Zelrius had been doing, but wasn't really able to show much for it after being dropped several stories onto the ground by the force of her own explosion rattling the tree she had been in. Who knew the greatest threat to Jester this day would have been Jester? She was technically the weakest entity in the whole encounter, so it was almost impressive what she ended up being capable of in that regard.

Thankfully, the jaguar was blown to smithereens at this point, if not thanks to her improvised explosives then thanks to Zelrius fumigating it from existence with searing flame (which felt kind of like a cozy fireplace for a few seconds), and yet again thanks to Kyra popping the Vlad R violently expunging the creature's blood from its body.

Eventually someone came to check on Jester, and wouldn't you know it, it was the woman she invited along. Guess that was a good move after all, huh? With half of a grin (as the other half of her face was still paralyzed) she giggled a bit as she focused her dazed eyes onto Alice. She raised her left arm up for a second before it flopped to the ground like a semi-stiff noodle. "Nhoooope~!"
