Sleep had been the only appropriate response to having a tube shoved down your throat and the contents of your entire stomach being flushed. They hadn't even brought Ari his personal effects back by the time he was out cold in the hospital bed. Mercifully, he didn't dream then. Just a quiet darkness.

The voice of the one person who would actually continue to torment him while he was hospitalized broke through the fog of sleep, and Ari groaned in response. "Of course Hell would include you," the man said, half-joking, half-annoyed that his sleep was interrupted. Ari's voice was hoarse, and his throat hurt. It could have been expected.

Turning his head to look at Nico, the man was surprised to see another blonde-haired figure standing in the doorway alongside her. "Val?" the man said, sitting up in the bed slightly before remembering that hospital beds usually had a remote to adjust the reclining portions. Ari fumbled around himself for a moment until he found the remote. He squinted at the blurry symbols on the remote, recalling he didn't have his glasses or contacts. "What're you doing here?" he asked, looking over at her as he forced himself to sit up, giving up on the remote.

"Second floor." The familiar voice caused the blonde to look behind her, vibrant strands of pink hair being the first to catch her eyes before she finally gazed into the baby blues of her friend. "I wasn't going to see him without you."

A mumbled "Thanks." tumbled out of her lips, hands curled on the strap that crossed her chest as an awkward silence settled between them. She could see the man glancing at both girls from the periphery of her eye, undoubtedly curious given their close proximity to the front desk, before Nico broke the silence one more time.

"Let's take the stairs."
"Mmm."

Valeria was more than happy to agree with a small grunt and a nod of her head, falling a few steps behind the pinkette as Nico led them towards the stairway. In another time and under different circumstances perhaps she would’ve dared to speak up once the door had closed off behind them, but currently the only thing still keeping the blonde away was her growing concern for Ari’s wellbeing.

A sterile hallway greeted them when they stepped out of the stairs on the second floor, the blonde mindful enough to keep the way clear as she kept herself close to the wall on their way to his room. Two knocks were the only warning that Ari was afforded before Nico opened the door and stepped in, followed a moment later by Valeria who quietly closed it behind herself.

The light back and forth that easily flowed between the two housemates was reminiscent of the times they’d spend together. It caused a faint smile to tug at the edges of her lips, before the silent reminder of Nico’s behavior towards her as of late quickly wiped it away.

"Val?"
"H-Hey you…"

She was startled out of her thoughts by his voice, carefully lowering the duffel bag to the floor at the end of his bed as she walked closer. The way he fumbled with the remote caused a faint chuckle to escape her lips, a slender finger pointed at the button he’d probably been looking for before she’d perched herself at the edge of his bed.

"Nico told me you’d been poisoned." The single text she’d received had been concerning enough, and that had been multiplied exponentially as the live location remained in the hospital for hours and Val hadn’t been able to get a hold of Ari or Nico on the phone. "I c-could’nt reach you and got worried so I booked the next flight and came over…?"

Her voice softly trailed off into a murmur as she spoke, fingers unconsciously picking at the edge of her nails as each word carefully hammered into her skull her anxious-driven actions from last night until now. Had she overreacted to it all? He seemed to be in relatively good shape now, perhaps she should’ve just been patient and waited back home…

"Well yeah, the devil comes in pink." Her voice grew weary just by looking at Ari. It itches different to see someone capable be bed-ridden, stuck within a hospital, possibly eating jello and whatever oldman meals they had in the facility.

What little sympathy she had for his situation faded in exchange of the forlorn look she sported the whole day, merely spectating both lovers while leaning to the comforts of a pure white wall as they exchanged shock and woes (in Ari's case, a fucking bed remote).

Her hands left her pockets, thrusting herself off the wall with a little bump as Valeria's voice begun to fade and scatter in an introverted manner, wrapping her fingers around the front end rail of the bed. "Thought you could use some company." Her most indirect way of saying 'I'm not staying'. It made her sweat bullets as her own anxiety rebelled against the idea. Every second outside of Terrasphere, imagining the worst case scenarios turning true again...

"Turns out carbonara isn't my forté, so now you got someone who can do it for you."

"Mm. Thanks," Ari had tiredly muttered when Valeria's finger pointed at the button he was looking for. He felt the bed shift beneath him as the back rose, and Ari settled back down again, lying back. Her voice drew back into a quiet near whisper, explaining why she'd come. "Eh, just a bad case of food poisoning," the man said with a slight shrug, "I'll be fine. Not supposed to eat anything with too many spices for the next couple days ago." The prospect of eating nothing but bland food was far more daunting than anything else at this point.

"Thought you could use some company." Nico's voice sounded restless, eager to be somewhere else, despite her lingering for a moment to explain the carbonara failure. Ari's brows furrowed for a moment, looking over at her. There was some sort of concern there, though not about him. His brown eyes drifted to Valeria for a moment, wondering if there was something else wrong. From her expression though, her only concern was lying in the hospital bed. Ari looked back at Nico, "Did something happen while I was out?"

Yep, she definitely felt a bit foolish now that more context had been provided—like she had jumped the gun instead of properly assessing the situation—but considering she’d only received one(1) text from Nico and nothing else… well, perhaps she hadn’t acted so foolish after all?

"Well yeah, the devil comes in pink."
"Only if they’re wearing frills."

Her gaze turns to Nico was the pinkette joins them by Ari’s hospital bed and, had things currently been different between them, she would’ve loved nothing more than to suggest HIM as Nico’s Halloween costume for this year. It doesn’t take much to read between the lines as the pinkette spoke, though that doesn’t stop the confused look that Valeria gives her while holding back the question on the tip of her tongue.

It makes sense now why Nico left things so cryptic via message, she knew Valeria wouldn’t hesitate to find her way here if she did, but it makes the blonde wonder where will the pinkette go if she’s not planning to stay at the man’s apartment anymore. "Did something happen while I was out?" It seems she’s not the only one to notice, a faint shrug and a light shake of her head being Val’s own response as they both look towards their pink-haired friend.

As she glanced between both, it was evident they had more to say, and it wasn't long before Ari took the first step to ask about it before she had a chance to back off entirely from the room. It tingled her spine to see them both expecting an answer from her, earning themselves a sigh out of the pinkette. "Nothing, just letting you two have a moment. I'm not the one whose got their insides flushed, so..." Nico waved at both, yet even she could tell the gesture wasn't about to make things any better. "I'll be outside." She added, not waiting a second longer to push past the door and closing it behind her, heading for the waiting area on the second floor.

There was a comfortable little corner for her to sulk at all she wanted, and more importantly, to pull out her phone and scroll through her chats with no fear of getting it yoinked, reaching through for Ronja's and quickly typing away.

"Eh, this should do it..." She scratched at her cheek, after having written the message about three different times, both to fix typos, and for how clingy these texts looked at first, embarassment heating her face up.

"Nothing, just letting you two have a moment. I'm not the one whose got their insides flushed, so...I'll be outside." And with that, Nico slipped out into the hallway, leaving Ari and Val alone together. "Coulda fooled me..." the man muttered as the door swung shut behind the pink haired woman. She looked how than Ari felt, and looked even worse. For all the many things about Nico that annoyed him, her unwillingness to open up to him was high on that list. Even he wasn't as obstinate as she was.

Ari looked over at Val, hard eyes and with a half-tensed jaw. The question on his lips evident without him needing to vocalize it. He did anyways. "Think she's worried about Ronja? We were talking about Szofrit before-" Ari gestured vaguely around them, indicating the hospital visit. "Did she say anything to you?"

It didn’t take long for the pinkette to excuse herself out of Ari’s room once both pairs of eyes were on her, the closing of the door coinciding with a heavy sigh that escaped Valeria as she watched their friend step outside. Part of her felt this would be the last time they’d see her for a while, though the blonde deeply hoped her gut feeling was wrong this time around.

"Did she say anything to you?" She’d missed the look on his face as the man spoke, her own gaze still fixed on the sole door to the room before Val shook her head softly from side to side. "Not really… aside from the text that you’d been poisoned and the live location to this place this is the most she’s spoken around me since that day."

She wasn’t sure what felt worse; the absolute radio silence from Nico ever since the outcome of the battle with Szofrit had been discovered, or the fact this was the first time she’d heard the pinkette speak so much since… and that’s only because of a botched attempt at some carbonara.

"How are you feeling?" This was not the time or place to worry about her own troubles though, not when her boyfriend had just spent a night in the hospital. A hand quietly reached out for his before squeezing it softly, the familiar physical touch comforting after all the time she’d spent worrying. "Think they’ll discharge you today?"

Ronja carefully traced a line on the clay, tongue sticking out of her lips as she focused on the details... But before she could finish a line, her phone vibrated, and her gaze quickly shifted to it.

The name that showed up brightened her up, and she placed her tools away, snatching the phone.

The beating against her chest was hard enough, she could have thought this was some kind of sickness... A year or so ago- Now, this was a common occurance ever since this last month, the tension growing unfathomably on the last few seconds before an answer...

Hey 💕

Nope, I'm working a project right now.

I always forget you are a Picasso on the making, lol.

Sculpting is tricky tho, but if you got any cool previews of your work... 👀

Anyways, just wanted to confirm since I probs won't be on until like, 5 PM or so. Got some stuff to do.

But you can hmu when you aint busy. 💋

The only good news thus far today. Just a few words made her morning all the more easier to digest as the thumping on her chest could finally begin to slow down. It brought relief even when she knew it would be temporary. The wheel of fate rarely favours her, yet miss fortune had been all too cruel with her as of late. If she were to guess, it's to even out the good luck she's stuck by meeting Ronja.

"Fuck I'm so tired for that..." Nico muttered her complaints at herself for even suggesting to move, busy with pressing her back against the chair in one last attempt to gather strength. If this were pre-meditated, it would have been a masterful play, yet even she had to admit the carbonara accident was all but another case of missfortune, but one she could turn to her favour.

Neither Valeria nor Ari needed to deal with the sight of her sorry-self packing up and leaving, and this was the perfect moment for. Any explanations she could give would be mixed with disgust and personal necessity, and even then she didn't think to give that much information to people she can't trust. She came as a storm, but she won't leave like one, for everyone's benefit.
