"Wendel, you ready?"

"I'm always ready to help suffering people persons. Um, I just don't know what this is about? Wintersday sounds like a sham to me. People being greedy...and faking kindness just to suffer more right after."

Magi Heart was on a mission.

While in truth she always was, whether it was to figure out more about what she was going through, find a way to see her family and friends again or help the people of Arcia. Magi no matter who was in control continued in a near i̸̪̹̓n̵͔̂̆ḣ̴̹͛um̵͈͌́a̷̟̽n̵̦̙̉ way to pursue her goals day in and day out.

If Wendy wasn't finding places to stay and keeping the magical girl dream alive, Wendel was reaping the sick and sneaking in the occasional excuse to do so through dissonance so they would have more clients. It worked out strangely well.

This season was different though. Wendel was extremely irritable daily as grief was becoming harder to find with so many people either suppressing it or giving temporary solutions to it. Wendy on the other hand was having a ball. This was her first time in years not only in control of her body but also being able to do good deeds without having Wendel take over and commit g̵̨̦̾̇ó̷̹͒o̵̫̪͗d̶̯̓͝ deeds.

"...You really don't remember what holiday time is like? New Years? Hehe! It's a time to be with family and loved ones... sigh. The least we can do is give something nice to people here."

"Ehhh, I remember it...I just think the best present would be something better than some toy or other dumb thing. *Giggle* something a little more permanent."

The Dissonant Magical Girl was now going on a personal hope-spreading and grief-ending campaign with a festive twist! Heading to all the small towns and villages that might be passed up by the others. It was good job to ensure they too would have a hopeful Wintersday season. Thankfully Wendel would find just enough bad seeds to murder save to keep her from ruining things. So the duo followed fate thread after fate thread to find the neediest areas and bring them gifts or handle their problems with some good ole Mahou Shoujo v̶͓̙͊́i̵̡̔ò̴̤͉ḷ̴̍̚ė̸̪̀n̸̡̕c̶͈̑ė̵̥̻!

Along the way, they picked up a traveling companion they had met before @Kyanna Wynne. This made the trip further out to the Tertoria less lonely Every time Magi stepped into this place, it made Wendel stir. Wendy only had a vague recollection of this place but it looked like Wendel had it rough for a while here. Still, Magi Heart was a hero and this was a hero's job. Wendel couldn't argue against that since she really had no way to accomplish her end goals right now anyway.

Now they approached the hamlet of Merryhope. It was the first time she had visited this place even though she had passed it once before. It was strange how this place never snowed or even became all that cold (unless you were in your underwear like a certain raven-haired youth ).

"Gee whiz, Kyanna chan. This place would be so easy to... uh... help out."

Wendy shook her head and took out her Santa hat.
Not today Grinch Wendel!

"Holiday Magi is here! *Giggle* Let's go make everyone's holiday super cool beans!"

Magi transformed in mid-run towards the village while holding the hat on her head and the other had a magical bag filled with random gifts she had put together using astral divination to find people to give them to. She did not know that others would show up here as well...

An Elf named @Kamala Graham.
A very normal Faerin named @Ludmilla Orphys
An encounter with some very unpleasant Scrooges.

Perhaps Wendel will get to feel better about this after the day is over after all...

It was a very pleasing surprise to find, and be found, by @Magi Heart. The strange red thread had guided her toward the Magic Girl, but it almost felt like the other was doing the same- What a curious thing!

The girl was still in her mission of finding her lost mother, but the wonderful idea of making other people's Wintersday good was one that Kyanna couldn't ignore. Besides, it was hard to ignore a companion's desires. "What an adorable Hamlet!" Kyanna beamed joyfully, casting a glance at Magi, who soon had a Santa hat on her.

"Santa Heart! Or would it be Magi Claus?" Kyanna giggled along, "I should get something ready as well." She nodded, clearing her throat and tugging out her staff-that-totally-wasn't-a-flying-broom-aswell. "Presto!" She chanted, and a crown of mistletoes swirled around her witchy hat, spreading to the edges while the cone of her hat turned into something akin to a mini pine tree.

Ready for the work, Kyanna turned to look at Magi, nodding eagerly. "Sure! Let's go!" She cheered on, darting off along with the other girl, to soon meet @Kamala Graham and @Ludmilla Orphys.

With her Illusion Magic, Kamala had turned herself into a much taller woman, though most of her features remained the same. Her friends had argued it was unnecessary, especially since she wasn't changing much of herself, only her height, but Kamala wasn't comfortable sharing her true self with most people, especially those she was only meeting for the first time. Or that was what she liked to tell others. In truth, Kamala had messed her up choosing her height, and now she was paying the price. But it wasn't that big of a deal. She had magic, as per usual, to make her life in this game much easier than it was in the other world.

Calmly, almost gracefully, she made her way to meet the others. Kamala would not miss the opportunity to try and embody this season of giving. It was, as the kids liked to say back in her world, her jam. Was there a better gift to give than someone's time and charity? Kamala would argue for that, believing the true holiday spirit was found in the time and effort one made for others, especially the less fortunate. She tried to embody that not just during this season but every single day of the year. It's never easy to walk down that path, but she tries her best, and that's all that really matters, isn't it?

"Greetings, friends! I am Kamala Graham of Viridian Fields. It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance. "

She did a quaint little bow as she made her introductions, one befitting her current appearance and of course the general perception of what an elf should be in this genre. She's seen that video about fantasy elves and holiday elves one too many times, and always chuckled at it at least. It wasn't going to be forgotten any time soon.

For a while now, leading up to the holiday season, Ludmilla had been studying the wildlife and monstrosities that the outlying areas of the Calamity Deep had to offer, as well as providing healing services to locals who hunted them and didn't always come out on top. Acting as a transient paramedic in the outland hamlets supported her well enough in these parts, where Landers did not often meet with such exceptional individuals; despite her nature as a Faerin, her services were too valuable to spurn. She had been careful, however, to keep her status as Starcalled ambiguous.

The trips between here and there had been made far more bearable by her newly acquired steed, which she had been able to tame in the borderland woods of Astorea prior to what would have been an tortuous trek to the Tertus Valley. Now, when she rode through the town of Merryhope atop her shaggy reindeer, laurels of holly upon her head and bells at her collar, people recognised Ludmilla well enough to greet her by name. There were some lives among the populace that would have been lost, had it not been for Ludmilla's work.

Recently, however, whisperings in the town suggested some sort of tax collection squad was inbound, one that would ruin the livelihoods and likely push some struggling villagefolk into starvation. Sensing opportunity, Ludmilla had promised the concerned leadership of Merryhope that she would do something about it when the day came.

Come the day did, and Ludmilla was now quite surprised to find several new faces meandering towards - no, more directed than that - making for the hamlet. The distinctive Starcalled fashion that the pink-haired one (@Magi Heart) sported as well as the unusual appearance of an Elf in these parts signalled that this was likely a Starcalled party, out for adventure.

Riding out to intercept them, a practiced smile and limberness would greet the three with a fourth, the (admittedly on the tall side) festively draped Faerin perched atop a hulking reindeer making for quite a sight to see.

Hi-hi! Welcome to Merryhope, Travelers! What are we all out here for?

Magi slowed down and waved hello to the elven woman who appeared. There was something about her... had Magi met her before? Wendy was unsure but Wendel mentally muttered.

A lot less dirty of an illusion this time. Why doesn't she ever show her real face?
We do similar though, in a way. Don't judge her.

Wendel let it go. It didn't really matter to her regardless, that play was something she'd rather not recall anyway. Although Wendy was impressed with how well she could rhyme.. it wasn't a talent she realized she had in all honesty.

"I'm Magi Heart! Or you can call me Santa Heart! *Giggle*! We came to offer some gifts to these people, did you Miss Kamala?"

Wendel hadn't cared for this at all until...
Something was coming... several things in fact and the first one was.

"Hi-hi! Welcome to Merryhope, Travelers! What are we all out here for?"

She arrived on a large... Reindeer? Aw, now Wendy wishes she had thought of that! Where had she gotten him from?! He was so cute!

*Giggle* probably going to eat him later.
W-What? Urgh... yeah something about her is wrong... is she...
Probably. Don't you remember her from before? Or were you just stuck on that doggo boy the whole time?

"I didn't expect to see you here. Nothing all that fun for you to twirl about... yet *giggle*."

Besides that small reference and a dark glare as Magi's red eye dug into @Ludmilla Orphys, Magi would return to happy Wintersday mode!

"AHHHHHH! They're here! The Queen's Knights... the COLLECTORS!!!"

Magi Heart as a whole felt danger approaching. Wait... was that what the thread brought her here for? Not giving presents? Aw no way, that's not very Wintersday like! Wendy missed real holidays...

Turning in her half magical girl half Santa Claus form. Magi found the source of the villager's despair. Wowzers... that wasn't what she expected to see at all...

"It's time. Prove your worth."

A fully armored golden knight around 7 feet tall over the citizens of the hamlet. Even his cape was gold. Behind him were two more similarly dressed soldiers. They each stayed on steeds of again... pure gold color. One had what looked like a golden rifle of some type strapped to his back and the other was in a hooded robe and held no obvious weaponry. The large one that spoke had a sword of gold pointed at a young man's throat who was on the ground. Obviously trembling in terror.

Wendy was disappointed and quite upset this was happening but ready to do something about it.
Wendel was stoked! The grief just flowed in and she would be sure to collect her own tax today!

"Hey stop that! In the name of Wintersday cheer! You put that sword down! Who takes stuff from others on WINTERSDAY? It's the time of giving and sharing not taking!"

The Wendy of the past might have been foolish here but even with the gaps in memory, Wendy wasn't THAT gullible anymore, these guys were bad news.

"Don't, they will collect you! They wi- akkkkkk!!"

"Silence. You are worth... this much."

The now golden head of the young man rolled across the field. The rest of his body was being picked up by the mage of the enemy group as he was lifted and his body slowly crushed into a condensed gold nugget.

The hat came off...

"Gee whiz that's new! I knew you guys were weirdo's when I was here before... now I know you are. C̶̭̈́o̵̳̽o̸̧̚l̶̻͘ ̴͔̃b̴̢̏e̸̥͝a̶̫͠n̴̪̄s̸̗͐, I have to do something about you, don't I?♥"

Wendel looked at the others with her, especially Ludmilla who she knew held power under that exterior.

"They did not pay tribute. He was worthless. He was their replacement. We have taken it. We require more before we can return. Leave... this is not your jurisdiction child. Or shall you pay pure gold, in their stead? The Queen cares not the source of tribute. Simply, that it is exact."

Magi took a step forward as the villagers all ran into their homes and what looked like the young man's sister cried nearby over his head. She looked at the group of girls with pleading eyes.

"I won't stand for this! You just killed in cold blood... I will punish you! C'mon everyone!"

Magi's left eye turned golden. A gold that shined in contrast to the gleam of ill omen these soldiers produced. These sorts of atrocities will not stand! Especially not this season!

"Ah! It is a pleasure to meet you too, Kamala, I am Kyanna Wynne!" The witch girl smiled, offering @Kamala Graham a hand, similarly to @Ludmilla Orphys, that also approached.

"Spread the Wintersday love and all. That's a lovely reindeer you have here, it will sure help us to deliver everything!" Kyanna beamed, clasping her hands joyfully, until the scream sent the witch to alert mode.

Following next to @Magi Heart, Kyanna summoned her staff-that-totally-wasn't-a-flying-broom as she watched the situation unfold.

Occasionally she peeked at the magic girl, with her eyes sparkling at how assertive she was at the bad guys. She was a hero, after all, and the witch girl couldn't stop admiring her at any-

Swooosh

"E-Eh?" Kyanna froze onto place.

That was a severed head? Thankfully it wasn't the first time she had witnessed such a thing in this game, except it wasn't a hostile goblin or some other monster, but rather an innocent person by the hands of a tyrant.

The other girl managed to remain unflinching, and Kyanna tightened the grip on her staff.

No, that wasn't going to go well. She needed to do something too.

Kyanna shoved her staff deep into the ground. "Abracadabra!" She called, and the staff shimmered, before vines erupted from the ground, crawling through underground and raising to try and restrain the big bad, trying to give an opening for the others to attack him.

The cost for it, was Kyanna's hands slowly brimming in a golden reflection, stiffening her muscles slightly.

PROTECTED Kyanna Wynne

"Oh, yes, of course! I brought some gifts with me, too."

Kamala snapped her fingers and turned the nothingness behind her into a wheelbarrow filled with wrapped gifts, though a dire chick wearing a holiday hat no less was sitting on top of everything. It chirped at everyone once, as if it knew it was revealed from the elf's illusory veil. Before she could do or say anything else, conflict arose, sending her into a panicked state. Breaking into a sweat, her skin crawled at the sight of their hulking antagonists. Kamala had to take a step back when she witnessed someone's life ending right before her very eyes.

No... What is happening... I can't... She felt her heart begin to race as she started to feel the heat of a thousand vibrating wings inside of her. And yet, she felt something else when she noticed the others spring into action. I can't be a burden here... Not this time!

Mustering all the courage left in her body, Kamala managed to steel herself. She put up both hands in front of her and manifested an illusory mushroom near the Gilded Sorcerer that throbbed at the same pace as her own heartbeat, drawing their attention before exploding right in their face. What remained of the illusory explosion turned into green light that flew around @Kyanna Wynne for her protection.

I didn't expect to see you here. Nothing all that fun for you to twirl about... yet *giggle*.

Ah, so that's why this overly cheery magical girl (@Magi Heart) seemed so familiar. They had met before, but under rather chaotic circumstances. Now that Ludmilla was close enough for a good look with her Corrupted Investigation Mode, something about the girl seemed...splintered? It was as though Ludmilla was seeing double.

Staring into her [red red so red] eyes made the Faerin feel uneasy and nauseous, even a little afraid. When the crimson glare moved away, Ludmilla noted that she had begun sweating profusely all over despite the cold.

That thing could...no, it would surely kill me if I were to fight it. I would stand no chance.
But what is this feeling...why do I want to ■■■ it so much!?

Tearing her eyes from the unsettling pinkette, Ludmilla forced herself to keep her act together as @Kyanna Wynne grasped her hand. Immediately, the hunger inside her would react subtly at the witch's touch, almost like a tuning frequency of chaos that both would briefly feel. This one also bore the mark. But a different kind...thankfully for Kyanna, useless to the Faerin.

I'd be happy to help deliver- uwahhh! Presents! So many! All the village children will love these!

Clapping her hands at the pleasant surprise that @Kamala Graham revealed, Ludmilla rocked back and forth joyously on her reindeer's back. However, the approach of the gold-clad troop quickly put a stop to Ludmilla's rocking as her mount shuffled and snorted uneasily.

Then, blood in the snow. Frankly, she could have yawned at such an attempt at intimidation, but no matter. She had already foreseen this outcome. While her companions were content to cast spells at a distance to try and hinder the attackers, Ludmilla preferred a more direct approach.

Spurring her reindeer into a sudden gallop, she charges straight for the nearest enemy, the gun-toting soldier. It's not quite as decisively debilitating of an opener as Ludmilla would have liked, but the beast's antlers very nearly knock the knight off balance.

Wheeling about to face the enemy, one may note that although Ludmilla rode like a seasoned cavalier, her hands were free and not steering with any form of reins nor saddle and bit. Raising her arms as if inviting an attack, her open stance is a clear provocation.

Hi-hi! Welcome to Merryhope!

Then, more quietly, so that only her victim could hear her over the din of combat;

Do you know of the Not Deer? It's a Starcalled myth...

The great glassy eyes of the reindeer gleamed with a milky listlessness. Something twitched under its thick fur coat. Wait, its eyes...

Oh god, its eyes.
They were moving. Moving in its skull. Bones softened and sockets rolled, shifted like butter.

Its eyes were facing forwards.

"You did not pay tribute. You are worthless. Now you will be given worth."

The Gilded Captain shifted his entire focus to the party while the Sorcerer still on horseback held the nugget that was once a man's body in his hand. The gold mage looked at it for a time silently.

Magi's Wintersday friends went to work. Seeing a decapitation may have paralyzed players in the past but the Starcalled knew what sort of game this was now and even Wendy had left the shock of body horror or gore in the past. Or at least she tried too. Wendel was always there to take over with or without Wendy's consent as well.

Her golden astral eye caught a vision of the girl crying over the head of her fallen sibling... but no.
That girl wasn't crying anymore once no one was looking. She was.. muttering and looked focused.
...
...
...

The head... the golden head was...

"This is a... teddy bear. The value is minuscule".

"Aggghhhhhh!"

A young man, or more like the same young man that had supposedly been beheaded and turned to gold, now came rushing from nearby bushes with an axe in hand. He slid across the ground and brought the axe through the Gilded Sorcerers' horse. Its gilded legs splattered like hot gold butter. The glimmering steed buckled and the Sorceror fell to the ground dropping the collected nugget.

The young girl holding the head smiled as the illusion shattered. The golden head was still cursed but now it was that of a bear. The small girl's brows formed and she kicked it hard like a soccer ball into The Captain's helmet. A small set of blades emerged and spun cutting rapidly into his golden plate...

With this sudden revelation, it also became apparent that the townsfolks held crossbows aimed out of their windows. they didn't look terribly skilled with them, unfortunately.

The Gilded Captain swatted the bear's head away and the dent in his element remained, but he seemed barely scathed. Against a normal man perhaps this would have caused great harm or even killed but these were built differently.. they were GOLDEN!

Magi unleashed an attack on the Gilded Sorcerer while he was down but he didn't die in one shot. The strangely sturdy mage shot out a hand as he held his masked face and @Kyanna Wynne glowed in a golden hue.

Meanwhile the Gilded Gunner had pulled his long-barreled rifle and also focused on @Kyanna Wynne. It looked like these guys were determined to remove the source of support first.

"Kyanna watch out! Eyaahhh!"

The golden blade was brought down into Magi's side. The Dissonant Savior bled a dark substance onto her dress but was not slowed down by this.

Soldiers of Gold.
Young villagers with a degree of fighting power.
Magical Girls bleeding black on Wintersday.
A fine springlike Wintersday with Eldritch abominations, illusory Elves, and Witches.
Was this normal for Tertoria or just normal for the Starcalled in general?
Who could say?

Kyanna blinked in surprise at the sudden turn of events. Turned out the young man wasn't dead! A trick? An ambush? Truly, the uno reverse card was drawn from the deck, and suddenly the group was in a certain advantage.

Even if it wasn't effective at first, it would show the taxmen that they wouldn't be able to keep up their tyranny without consequences!

However, it didn't mean that the golden enemies would flee right away, with one of them sinking their blade on @Magi Heart, prompting a worried call from the witch- "Magi-?!" She tried to prepare a spell, but the shimmering of the golden gun caught her attention, albeit too late.

Before she could react, the spell from the sorcerer caught Kyanna, and she groaned feeling the golden layer spreading further across her body and equipment. Her teeth gritted, and she turned to look at the soldier, bracing herself for a shot before @Kamala Graham's mushroom blew up on his face, making the shot barely miss her, albeit snatching a small wound on Kyanna's arm, but avoiding any fatal damage thanks to her companion.

Holding her wounds, Kyanna breathed heavily, casting a glance at the elf and smiling faintly. "Th-Thank you Kamala! But please, help my friend, she is..." She said, turning her attention to the Captain that was attacking Magi, and gritting her teeth.

"Don't hurt her!" She said, sinking the staff into the ground once again, but this time a carpet of corrupting fungi crawled through the grass until it engulfed the captain's legs, crawling up him while trying to restrain him onto the ground, leaving him vulnerable for attacks while tainting his golden armor.

The retaliation was immediate, with the golden aura making the curse take over Kyanna, stiffening her onto place and nearly freezing her entirely. But she had to continue fighting, no matter what!

If Kamala wasn't panicking then, she was more than panicking now. Two of their party looked like they were about to get beaten to a pulp. Were they all dying here? Her eyes wandered over to the villagers, the sight of them making her steel herself. No, we can't just die here!

"What about you?!"

She turned to @Kyanna Wynne with a scowl. Oblivious to the true nature of the Golden Curse, Kamala decided on a course of action that she felt at that moment was the only course of action she could take. She wasn't primarily a fighter, after all. Others have mostly done the fighting for her. She was more of a supporter, someone who was always at the backline, trying to keep others alive. But things have to change if she wanted no one to die on her watch. Not unless they intended to themselves.

"I think I might have something that can help!"

While Petunia the Dire Chick flew over Kamala's head and rested on there, the elf once again manifested a throbbing mushroom illusion, though this time it was a bit larger and definitely much darker than before. Although she intended for the Captain to be drawn to it, it was actually the Soldier who rushed toward it, with the Sorcerer, who most likely learned his lesson, keeping a safe distance away from it. Can't be helped. The Captain, after all, was more focused on the other girl that was fighting it.

But, again, the illusory mushroom exploded in someone's face, bombarding the hapless soldier. One less antagonist to worry about would have been ideal, but they'll get there. Meanwhile, the remnants of the illusory explosion swirled into green light and floated toward Magi and Kyanna, protecting the two most pained girls at the moment.

Attacking 14K GILDED SOLDIER (GUN) for 145 [DEFEATED]

HUNGER | MUST BE SATED

As the dead villager turned out to be a substitute body, many things had happened, chief among them being the revealing that the village had mustered up a rudimentary resistance in case the impromptu magical girl squad weren't enough to save them. Well, thought Ludmilla, perhaps a little arrogantly; if these vermin are too much for the Starcalled, these Landers are naïve to think they have a chance with such primitive defenses.

Across the field, @Magi Heart was viciously slashed, spilling a liquid that to Ludmilla's nose emanated wonderfully pungent and savoury fumes. It seemed like the Midas touch was not affecting her yet; how amusing. Ludmilla wondered if the human body would continue functioning after being hit with a curse like that enough times. The answer was probably no, but who could say for certain if it hadn't yet been observed?

The counterattack from the gilded brigade impacted her companions severely, but Ludmilla only cared for the prey that had slipped from her grasp in the chaos. Calmly reassessing the situation atop her mount, she oversaw the witch, @Kyanna Wynne, strike out against the captain of the brigade. The retaliatory enchantment sapped the witch's strength, turning her into solid gold.

@Kamala Graham scrambled and put herself in a terribly vulnerable position as she rushed to aid her two companions. Foolish girl, she was a sitting chick with no cover and no backup plan like that. Evidently, she hadn't yet been blooded in close combat. No matter, Ludmilla was more than happy to show her how it was done.

Patting her steed and leaning close to its ear, Ludmilla grasped the reindeer's antlers and steered its head towards the soldier she had attempted to down earlier, issuing a quiet command. Its newly formed predatory features twitched occasionally, as though its face was having a hard time keeping this shape.

Run it down.

With a rearing start, the reindeer immediately jerked forwards and bounded with haggard leaps towards the foe, groaning as though each movement greatly laboured it. With the terrain to its advantage, the beast easily closed several feet of distance before its victim could react. Still holding onto its antlers, Ludmilla's mouth opened to chant an incantation, but the words that spilled forth could not be named any coherent language.

Following the jumble of rasping clicks, disjointed syllables and black spittle, the reindeer's head jerked back at an impossible angle, though apparently this new skyward angle that would have surely torn tendons and ruptured veins didn't impact its pursuit whatsoever. For the observant, the next handful of seconds shed just a little light on Ludmilla's true nature.

Through a slit in its neck, as though it had always been this way, a long and sinuous tongue-like appendage lashed forth from the reindeer and curled around the gunman's torso, pulling them towards Ludmilla with surprising strength. Footing destabilised, the gilded soldier had barely a moment's notice before the beast lowered its head to a more normal angle and screeches towards the fatal impact.

In the moment that its antlers connect, the reindeer shudders, Ludmilla jerking its whole head and neck back upwards with a burst of strength that seems to literally ripple through her body. Flung upwards, the soldier's last moments are spent in confused agony, the Faerin's wide staring eyes boring into them intently.

Sharp spurs of erratically sprouting antlers pierce through their torso in several places, puncturing armour like tin foil, bursting through the other side like bloodied fingers reaching for the sky, ripping through flesh and bone with exits just as violent as their entries. The weight too much to prop up for more than a few seconds, the newly grown antlers snap off and leave the dying soldier bleeding on the ground, internal organs turned to mush.

Spattered by the arterial spray from beneath her prey, Ludmilla and her steed, whose antlers are slowly morphing back to their original configuration, cut a far more threatening figure than Kamala. Plainly, she raises her fists like a boastful boxer, warm steam emanating from her newly bloodied attire.

With the united efforts of @Kamala Graham @Kyanna Wynne and @Ludmilla Orphys the Golden Knights had gone from a strange gold wall before Wintersay cheer.. to just strange gold villains about to be put in their place!

Magi's final wave of shots were channeled with astral power, each blasted right through the captain. From each blast, she could see that his blood was mixed with liquid gold. What sort of people even were they? What was even causing the gold transformation of Kyanna? More importantly, would it go away if she defeated these knights?

Normally Wendy would not want to kill, just teach or lesson and maybe hand them over to authorities...(although, in a way, they were the authorities). The reaction to her and the other's attacks made that reality nigh impossible. The battle would finish up quickly from here and the soldiers said nothing... because they had melted. Yes including the horses they rode in on.

The green grassy field of Merryhope where the battle took place now had several puddles of liquid gold seeping into the grass and dirt. Something was stirring Wendel and it wasn't excitement, Wendy felt it too. Something was odd here. You didn't even need Magi's senses to tell that much.

BUT

The doors of the hamlet would be thrown open as several villagers emerged with cheers! The young man that had been swinging an axe now put it over his shoulder and grabbed his little sister in his other arm. Wendy's thoughts went to her own big brother at the sight of it. A larger man with a thick bristly beard came up to the group. He wore overalls and a rifle on his back. A rack in his right hand, and a big-toothed smile on his face.

"Thank you! We didn't know how long we could keep up the ruse of giving them false tributes and we sure as hell weren't going to give em the little gold we have left."

"GOLD!"

Several villages went right for the puddles thinking to try and collect the wealth of gore...

Magi looked back to see Kyanna still half gold but alive.
Thank goodness.

"Wait! Don't touch it, that stuff might be cursed or something weird... I can feel it. That's not normal gold... and um... it's sorta bloody too..."

Wowzers... I haven't had a hunger pang like this in a while.
Huh?
Huh is right... look.

Magi's eyes watched as the gold slowly turned entirely back to just melted flesh and then that began to degenerate. Maybe Because of the magic used to kill the goldies? The townsfolk looked disappointed.

The teen with the axe came forward.

"Hi, that's my uncle. Are you all from D.E.S. Star Chosen? I don't see a Fate Guard with you so you must be really strong?"

"Um n-no. We are here from Astorea with presents. Then we saw you all we had to help out! I'm Magi Heart!"

No, you dummy! Don't you know what we went through here!
It's okay, we've been gone awhile and these people seem nice.
*Giggle* until they learn what you are...
...

The large man spoke up and waved to the girls.

"We can clean up here. You all are celebrating that Wintersday thing? Hahahahah! Sounds good to me, come in for some food and drink. We don't have much but we can offer you something for your help! It's been a long time since someone set our fate back on track with how crazy the world's gotten lately!"

Magi put her Santa hat back on and smiled. She was also relieved to see Kyanna slowly returning to normal. Maybe it would be a happy Wintersday after all.

"Gee whiz... what do you guys think? Should we stay awhile? We do have some gifts I brought for them. Just toys and some tools though..."

<That ends the Wintersday Quest part of the thread but we can continue if you'd like. I won't semi-dm much from here on out. You can just RP whatever! ...maybe a chance to get drunk?>

@Kamala Graham's insistent concern was warming, and Kyanna couldn't help but offer a small smile to her face, and perhaps that was exactly what saved her from having to deal with a fatal strike, with the illusory explosions sending some of the golden tyrants away, along with the works of the Dire Petunia, and then @Ludmilla Orphys with her reindeer bowling another soldier down in a powerful strike, finished with one last arrow from @Magi Heart that pierced through the Captain, putting one end to his evil deeds for once and for all.

Of course, the outcome of deaths wasn't ideal for Kyanna, who shared the same sentiment as the magical girl. There was no need to have deaths, right? But this case was a close call, and only death would truly stop these men... It was lives of innocent or lives of the evil.

That would be a burden for Kyanna to deal with later, however, with her current concern being the golden layer that coated most of her body, stiffening her muscles and making moving a pain-- Quite literally even.

The cheers and speeches from her friend calmed her down, despite everything. With the good news of the curse seemingly slowly fading away, with the layer of gold disappearing from her body.

With a sigh, she shook her head. "Yeah, we can't just leave these folks without gifts. Especially after such a conquest. We must celebrate!" She clasped her hands in agreement with Magi, before turning to face Kamala and Ludmilla.

"Thank you for keeping me safe, Kamala. And you were really tough, Ludmilla..." She giggled. "You guys have any plans? Do you want to come with us?" She asked, leaning closer to Magi for emphasis.

Kamala couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief when the battle was finally over. It just wasn't her cup of tea, all the fighting and the violence, especially on such a season like this. If she could just snap her fingers and remove all feelings of hostility and anger, all negative feelings to be fair, she would. Alas, her Illusion Magic could only go so far, and she would rather not trespass on someone's else emotions. Unless it was for the common good, I suppose.

Watching the villagers cheer for their victory warmed her heart, and Kamala giggled and chuckled at the gratitude and warmth everyone else was so eager to share and partake in. Now, this is what Wintersday is truly about! She nodded at the villagers, especially the children and the large man who made the offer, smiling at all of them the warmest she could. She turned to the other girls and giggled again, excited at the thought of sharing food and drinks with newly made friends. Wouldn't it be rude to decline such a merry offer?

"Oh, of course, I'd love to stay! How can I say no to such nice folks?"

Petunia the Dire Chick chirped atop her head, poking her and immediately gesturing for the wheelbarrow that she had brought. Kamala almost forgot about it due to all the commotion.

"Speaking of these nice folks, I almost forgot something!"

Quickly, she rushed to get it and brought it with her toward the children.

"My friends and I from Viridian Fields prepared something for everyone! It's not much but it's from the heart, and sometimes, that's all that really matters."

Twas the season, though she always tried to embody the same throughout the entire year. One by one, she started to hand out the gifts until the wheelbarrow was finally empty. The important thing was her heart was full, and hopefully, the villagers could say the same. Onward to more celebration then! She patted heads and giggled with the children before finally joining the other girls.

MORE! YES!

Her steed spinning about to charge again with a braying screech, Ludmilla hangs on like a rodeo cowpoke as a maddening surge of power courses through her, the scent and sight of carnage stoking her hunger. @Magi Heart's arrows rip through the air, downing the menacing captain and leaving Ludmilla to send the already injured sorcerer flying with a head-on ram.

No struggle. No escape.

Turning on the final broken member of the collecting squad, it would seem that they had become the collected, so to speak. The towering silhouette of the not-reindeer blots out the weak Wintersday sun, and the last thing they would see is the same slit in its throat opening to reveal a salivating, twisting appendage. The wormlike thing coiled back, unrolling its tip to reveal a jagged needle-like proboscis, then launched forwards squarely into its victim's skull.

Perhaps it was better for the innocents of Merryhope that the feeding was relatively bloodless and over in but a minute. By the time Ludmilla was done, the madness had faded and all that was left of the agitators were a few puddles of strange flesh-gold goop.

Dismounting her reindeer (whose eyes had returned to 'normal') and allowing it to lick her clean, Ludmilla rejoins the rest of the group to bask in the joy of a victory for Merryhope, and for Wintersday itself. Patting the reindeer's side with a gloved palm, Ludmilla grins at @Kyanna Wynne's compliment. Oh, foolish, foolish girl. How little they knew.

Hehe, it's nothing, really. Only bad people get to see Ludmilla's tough side! Now, let's get to spreading some Wintersday cheer!

Agreeing to help out the rest of the Travelers, Ludmilla would begin by fitting her mount to @Kamala Graham's festive wheelbarrow, helping the Elf tow it around and ease the difficulty of distributing so many wonderful gifts to the townspeople.

After that, it was time for a classic Wintersday celebration to rest and recover from that scuffle. Grouping up once more with Magi, Kyanna and Kamala, Ludmilla would curiously inquire as to the jargon that had been brought up just them.

Hi, umm...Santa Heart! What's a D.E.S Star Chosen? What's a Fate Guard?

With everything dealt with... for now at least. Magi went about handing out gifts and being thanked by villagers. Some of the dark blood from the cut still seeped out onto her normal clothes but it had mostly dried. As had been the case, most displayed during Camp Hope. Magi's body would self-heal as Wendel worked to repair her "shell". Even with Wendy in a conscious state and trying her hardest to treat things as normal. Her situation was far from it.

Now she held a mug that was thrust into her hand of what smelled like alcohol. Wendy grimaced a little but Wendel immediately drank it with no hesitations.

"Hi, umm...Santa Heart! What's a D.E.S Star Chosen? What's a Fate Guard?"

"Ehhh, I'm not really sure of the details, Miss Ludmilla. Tertoria is a big place and I um, had to cross a lot of it to get back to Astorea. It's just that uh, I don't have the best memory. When I started playing this game, Hehe... feels funny even calling it that anymore. "

Her expression shifted as Wendel drank again and a shadow fell over her face. This would be the first calm chance to talk to this... person. Unfortunately, the other girls were still nearby. So for both of their sakes, it was better to not be blatant about what Wendel really wanted to discuss with Ludmilla. Perhaps another time then...

"Being a magical girl for me was something that wasn't possible in that world. The thing that kept me going after my first death and seeing how ungrateful, greedy, and drawn to suffering people persons are was the rumor that there was a hero unlike those in Astorea or Falderen. Back then I didn't realize the only hero I need is Rai-... Seigi Ling Ling... You're a player so you know who that is right?"

The red eye glanced separately from the pink one in an uncanny way to Kyanna and Kamala, if they were paying attention they would notice but only if looking at her eyes. She spoke loud enough for all of them to hear, it wasn't like this part of her life was a secret.

"A Star Maiden. That's someone in this world, that is everything I saw as a cartoon... a fantasy, anime... you know? The idea that someone like that existed meant maybe it wasn't impossible to do good things and set stuff right but it's pretty complicated *giggle*. Star Chosen are others like me...or better than me. They all want to be Star Maiden too I think. Um D.E.S. sounds like Des which is the name of the Star Maiden I think. I haven't ever met her but I have met Star Chosen before..."

"They exist to destroy Dissonance.. or purify it as they put it. There isn't anything like them in Astorea besides maybe me *giggle*. They aren't cool beans. I don't see them here right now helping these people. So...they allow suffering just like everyone else. If that's what real magical girls are I don't need them. I have Ra- Seigi. If you want something done right do it yourself, Magi Heart sez. People persons have mistaken me for one before...I'm okay with it. It helps me do my job.."

The grimace of distaste changed to one of thoughtfulness.

"...That's only partly true. If the Star Maiden could help me understand better. I'd give meeting her a shot. I... have a hard time going anywhere near there right now though. Um... the Fate Guard? I don't really know sorry. I think they are like the knights we fought but not... gold?"

She shrugged and looked like answering these questions was unpleasant. So she took some cookies that were being handed out and bit one with her brows furrowed.

The conversation between @Magi Heart and @Ludmilla Orphys caught her attention, with a considerable amount of lore dump occurring, making the girl keep her gaze focused at them, blatantly eavesdropping about the Star Maidens, about her first death and everything else. She may or may not have heard plenty of those things in her, still beginning, journey, but that didn't make the topic any less curious.

When the red eye uncanningly gazed toward the Kyanna, the witch blinked surprised at first, honestly slightly spooked, but... It was @Magi Heart, she was just funny like that sometimes.

She smiled warmly to the magical girl, waving a bit before returning her attention to @Kamala Graham.

"Viridian Fields? What and where is that?" Kyanna asked, curious about the place mentioned as she followed the elf and the rest of the group toward the townsfolk and kids that needed the receive their so well deserved gifts.

Kamala simply nodded as she absorbed as much of the information @Magi Heart willingly shared with them. Much of it, she didn't quite understand, but she tried her best to. Kamala wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but she always tried her best. She took note of the terms used and the explanations given, though a part of her knew all of those new things would just disappear from her brain as soon as they parted ways, only to return at the most inopportune moment. Kamala's brain has always been practical, only pushing to the forefront information she needed at the moment.

It also ignored whatever @Ludmilla Orphys did with their fallen enemies, with Kamala looking away as soon as she could. After all, the other girl did help her with her wheelbarrow and she didn't want to muddy the season and their moment with the villagers with her paranoia and personal opinion. Besides, it might be for the best. Once they leave, who would protect these people? Sometimes, for the good of all, heavy decisions must be made.

"Oh, well, Viridian Fields is a farming commune in Pormont. Basically, anyone can just come in and farm."

Kamala continued to speak about the farming commune with @Kyanna Wynne, offering her directions as well as a suggestion to take her there sometime in the future. She shared her own positive experiences with the farm, the other farmers, most of whom she has taken to as friends and family in Arcia. Soon, it would be time to leave, to part ways, but until then, she didn't mind sharing stuff. She could only hope the rest wouldn't be as bored or annoyed by all the farm talk. It's an acquired taste, for the most part.

Ra-Seigi Ling Ling? The name was vaguely familiar. Somehow, it felt as though Ludmilla had heard it somewhere before. Perhaps among the Starcalled? Either way, for someone to namedrop another in such a way...this Ra-Seigi must be quite an established one.

Hmm, I think I might have heard of her? She must be a great friend if you talk about her like that. I might meet her one day, someday, if she's this famous...ooh, I wonder if I could make friends with her too!

As Dissonance was brought up, a gleam of recognition flashed in Ludmilla's eyes, enough to catch and return the unnerving glare of Magi Heart's crimson eye. She had done a little digging into the esoterica surrounding Dissonance recently, especially in these parts; if what she found was true in the slightest, then the two of them had both a lot to discuss...and a lot in common.

Aware from the demeanour of the strange 'Star Chosen' @Magi Heart that there was something that they couldn't discuss with the other two less...'initiated' Travelers, Ludmilla figured it would be best to keep up appearances and converse on this topic for now.

Wow, they sound really strong! But I haven't seen anyone as strong as you yet, Miss Santa Heart! I'm sure you'll be able to meet Des one day, and give her a piece of your mind. Maybe I could help you out, you know, with those Fate Guard guys!

Her words insidious behind a sweet facade, Ludmilla knew what she was suggesting, and silently dared the pinkette to respond with some kind of verdict before splitting off to mingle among the others. To @Kamala Graham and @Kyanna Wynne did Ludmilla flock, partaking in the festivities.

Anybody? So, anybody at all? That sounds so cool! I wanna visit! Do they allow animals? I have some forest friends who might come along to help, actually...

Maybe one day, indeed. But probably not to experience an idyllic farming lifestyle, that was for sure.
