"Im dealing with monsters that prey on innocent lives is what I'm doing." Brutus raised an eyebrow at the woman's outburst. "I've seen countless hunstman from Honeyhome injured, disfigured, crippled or worse at the hands of these creatures. Im defending lives that cannot defend themselves, forgive me if I might sound callous, but how else am I supposed to cope with the fact that every time one of these creatures draws a dagger on me it's either my throat getting slit or his bones getting smashed to powder by my canon?"

He could understand the theatrics for bandit slaying, sure, but Goblins? He'd seen the horrible aftermath of their work too much to harbor any sympathy in his heart for them. Still, she was moving in the direction of his planned path so he tailed along with her, keeping as quiet as a man his size could given the circumstances. As they stopped to observe the goblins working their snares, Brutus held his breath. Perhaps this could have a peaceful resolution.

Kaede could not fault Brutus' logic on goblins being less then refutable. But her comment was more don't be so careless and heartless to them unless you have proof they deserve such. Part of her thinking maybe she should use herself as a example and after some thought and allowing the goblin to leave her field of view she would speak in a hushed tone.

"What I was trying to say is not all goblins need to be killed on site. Think of it same way you consider a person like me. I have dark magic, but don't go around ruining lives without it weighing me down long after the fact. Some goblins are trying to live simple lives but if everyone keeps attacking them they will do the same. Make sense?"

Kaede slowly rose to resume tailing the goblin from a safe distance so the two could still talk in hushed voices if they needed to. So far she saw no reason for this goblin to be killed, it was checking traps and the few she saw it checking had been for small animals or at most a boar or something, nothing designed to take down a human or large creature. This was enough to tell her two possible things.

"So, it either lives in a small group, or they have a large net of small traps meaning we could be heading into a colony or a tribe... Judging by how it is also checking around itself and does not have a horn or sort of thing, the most likely is small tribe that lives not far away."

Moving back to hide behind some bushes as Kaede figured most of this likely was not up the interest route of the large brute male she was dealing with. To be honest she had no idea how to deal with 'jock' types as she so far classified him as. The most she dealt with was the avid gamer or otaku nerds back when she was alive and they are far different from jocks. Racking her brain as she tried to think of a better way to explain things to him in the future if this team-up was going to continue.

"The difference is that I've met people who mean me no harm, and I've met those that've meant me harm. I learned how to tell the difference through experience. I've yet to meet a friendly goblin yet, but if I ever get a chance to meet one who doesn't draw a dagger on me from the word go, I would gladly give it the benefit of the doubt."

They crept along from the distance, keeping their voices low as the creature checked various traps. "Too many traps for just a small group, most goblins only need a little under a rabbit to eat. Most of them don't have the brains to juggle that many traps at once. This is a larger settlement, fifteen at least. Maybe more."

The lack of a horn was the strange detail. He'd seen goblin camps function like this before, large raiding parties would cluster up, set a bunch of traps, make camp and then go on midnight raids on the people of Eastern Brishal. A horn was a way to alert a group to attackers, or to signal the start of a raid, it was like a goblins version of a smart phone almost. It's absence made no sense in this scenario.

"Something's weird...we should follow him and check out the nest."

Kaede could only manage a dull gaze at the man, she had said it could be one or the other and he seemed to only focus on the first detail. Sighing lightly as she decided to just nod and keep following, part of her glad Totetsu was not with her today because the moody dog was still mad she did not feed her raw meet yesterday when that was the normal thing, mostly because she failed to hunt down enough game to feed the growing lunatic pup. Holding a hand up to signal to slow down as she saw the first signs of more goblins.

Eyes darting between the few males but mostly raising an eyebrow at the amount of females She had been here almost eight years and most groups of goblins had more of a one to five in favor of males, but here was the other way around. Her mind racing at the risk this posed and what else it could actually mean. If another more hostile tribe of goblins came along and used them as nothing more then offspring producers this could flip the goblin count massively.

"Well this is the con of a game with a self growing code I guess... This many female goblins and so few males in a single tribe... If another tribe decides to abuse this it could ruin the balance of things... but at the same time as it is could change the view on goblins..."

Kaede's thumb would rise to her lips as she chewed her nail, she was not sure how to approach this, she could see equal risk and benefit, but she also knew to value the life of things that did not pose a threat and as far as she could see this group would do no such thing at current. God why could she have not just left well enough alone and picked a different spot in the woods to have her meltdown or done it a different day to avoid running into the brute and getting into this mess.

"If the wrong tribe gets their hands on the women here they could breed a small army within a year." Brutus' eyes widened as he came to the same assessment as she did. "But how and why are so many in the same..." a small goblin whelp swaddled in what looked like rabbit fur began to cry from its crib placed by the fire. A female goblin scrambled over to it and began coddling it with cooing sounds and bouncing it tenderly in her arms. Brutus' stomach twisted into a knot slightly.

Then he saw something he'd never expected.

A singular goblin strutted up to the mother and her babe with a level of swagger he'd rarely seen in men let alone goblins. Atop it's head was a pot that'd been polished to a shimmering sheen. It's hands were covered in oven mitts, his body protected by spoons, forks, and butter knives woven into the ratty green vest he wore. On his back was a small signboard with the word "West" on it, and at his hip was a shortsword that looked like it was actually used for fighting.

"That's a fucking goblin knight." Brutus found himself muttering dumbfounded. "Like some Don Quixote shit."

The goblin took the baby from momma goblin and gently bounced it up and down, making silly noises. Except it's silly noises were words in common.

"Eggplaaaant! Barbeque. Tree!"

Brutus' jaw dropped.

it was not Kaede's first time hearing a goblin speak, or seeing one with armor, though most opted to use the bones, skin, and fur of things they killed not what they had on them or in this case had found. She was however wanting to try and correct the man as the goblin likely had a different title and not just 'knight' but felt like it would be a wasted effort as she simply rose to her feet and walked right into the goblin camp without a fear in the world while blowing a whistle.

Not long after the very low frequency tone of the dog whistle did a very loud park respond and began charging towards Kaede's location. The bear sized lunatic hound leaping to her side and sitting down as Kaede watched the reactions of the goblins. The woman and kids ran into areas to take cover or hide, while the males mostly moved to protect and kept a circle around her while she chose not to give off much if any intent to kill.

"Hello, I know least one of you speaks the same language so shall we be civil and talk or will this escalate into bloodshed?~"

Just for the last word Kaede would allow her intent to kill show, a sadistic wave of dark twisted hatred before it was gone as quickly as it had shown up. Humming in the new tenser situation as she kept moving her focus around the goblins to see if any would buckle, attack, or retreat. Some gulping but holding ground, others trembling, and one had a new stain on their clothing. Moving her hand to tug on Totetsu's ear as the hound got up and rushed back to the woods where she had been prior.

"Civil it is, I come unarmed... though I use magic so no weapons is far more dangerous I suppose.~"

A small laugh as Kaede would moved her cloak off and fold it to reveal she was truly unarmed and for lack of a better word without any sort of armor. Brutus would likely be able to tell she was simply a wolf in sheep clothing, her magic just waiting for the reason to defend or attack as she finished her little twirl and looked to the assumed leader. How would it respond she wondered.

Brutus watched her stroll into the camp and play the power of wicked witch with practiced ease. The goblins all took practiced defensive positions around the women and children. The knot in his gut tightened. He'd raided nests before, usually holes in the ground filled with angry and vile creatures that fought mindlessly to the death. This was like raiding a human village almost.

The Goblin, however, simply handed the baby back to its mom and took a few steps forward, splaying its arms out wide.

"Ah! An Adventurer!"

Brutus didn't know if it meant her, or him as he towered behind her. He was having a hard time spotting his eyes under that shiny pot.

"I am ze humble leader of this band of outcasts."

Brutus raised an eyebrow, looking from Kaede to the globlin.

"You may call me Gon Gobote! Proud and humble knight of this forest, protector of ze meek and ze infirm. We mean you no harm, prey tell, what is ze meaning of your visit? We were not ekspekting vizitorz."

Brutus watched as several other goblins began to trickle forward. The cowardly had slunk away, but he was beginning to see signs of other...unique goblins. One had some sort of hat that used to be red on, another had a scarf and what appeared to be a crossbow, a third was as wide as three goblins and carried some sort of hammer. More seemed to be lurking in the shadows.

Kaede was trying her hardest not to laugh at the goblin's words, and it was taking just about everything she had as she coughed to regain some of her composure before looking at the group again after hearing the words of their leader. None seemed against the words so she would simply reach into her bag and pull out some clean bandages and very basic medical supplies before speaking. Her tone calmed down and relaxed as she held the items low enough, or high if needed to be seen by the leader clearly.

"I'm nothing more then a traveling medic, or healer I suppose would be better word. I tend to the injured as needed or when able and followed one of your hunters here thinking someone might be in need of tending since they had a lot of traps to check."

Kaede would, if needed hand the supplies over to be checked or if they did not trust her, for them to use. She had plenty more back at her clinic and not like they would be missed or really hard to use. Wrap over a wound, or use as padding, nothing to really go wrong with and could even reuse as blanket or pillow with some stitching. Regardless Kaede would then take a more focused look as she adjusted her posture.

"To be honest, I'm personally here to decide if you lot will be an issue for the people nearby and need to be dealt with now, or if there is a chance to find some sort of peaceful truce for those like you of your kind that are not hostile on first approach."

Slowly glancing around more to check once more for any hostile air in the group. Sure she was friendly to them but all it took was one bad apple for Kaede to decide the whole tree might need to be cut down. It was after all fairly close to her house, and she was in no mood to risk her friends on the hope the other goblins would not seek blood for just the bad apple being removed from the tree. Humming a rather grim tone as she started to walk around the camp with our without permission.

Gon Gobote would blink a few times, as if her words had just slapped him, before opening his mouth to retort. Brutus beat him to the punch.

"I don't think that any of these Goblins are anything to worry about. The fact that I haven't heard a single dagger drawn despite the obvious threat has proven that."

Gobote would zero in on the giant, taking a few steps closer to him before looking his up and down.

"Stranger words couldn't have been spoken by ze Red Giant. Our cousins of ze stabbin kind speak horror stories of a brute who fites wiff thunda. Taller than trees and meaner than a boar."

"Your stabbin kind deserve the thunder. I protect the meek and the innocent just like you Gobote, I've...never seen a camp quite like this before."

"I dont tink zere has been a camp like dis before."

"I would agree..."

He would watch Kaedae stalk around like a wolf, scaring the goblins half to death before approaching her. "You know, I just got a lecture about how life is sacred and now you're threatening to 'Deal' with a camp filled with women and children. You alright?"

The shift in tone had been rather abrupt, but then again she didn't seem like she was the most emotionally stable woman given everything she was going through.

While the two had been away from most the Goblins Kaede would look over to Brutus, her face showing both anger and agony as the voice in her head was not only screaming at her but starting to speak aloud to those nearby. As she was about to speak she decided to holdback for the moment and simply shake her head no in response if she was ok. her magic flickering at the edges of her fingers before she would take note of it and rush away from the area knowing what was about to follow.

She only managed to get about fifty feet away from the edge of the goblin camp before her magic broke out and started to decay everything around her like a virus. Black smoke billowing outward as Kaede fell to her knees trying to focus on pulling the magic back to no real progress other then slowing it down. Hands moving over her ears as if it would help the shouting in her head to go back there and take their lives was chanted by the voices.

"Shut up... shut up... leave me alone... I don't kill people for fun anymore... I don't want to be the monster anymore..."

Her words a slung mess of crying and sobbing as she kept trying to control her emotions, her magic, and her own mind all at once. She needed that time to defuse, not doing it only made her a timebomb and it was going off now and she could only ride the shockwaves. Trying to pull herself back to standing as she forced her body to move away from the camp further to avoid it getting to them if she had another surge so soon. She wanted to have the chance to get other magic, to go back in time and stop those deals she made to get this power.

"Dont... step in the smoke..."

A half spoken warning to anyone who might have followed her as she kept moving away, Totetsu whimpering at the edge of the smoke also knowing what happens if she tried to run and help having tried once before.

Brutus simply followed the woman, staying away from the strange smoke. This was getting a little out of hand, he'd decided, but he didn't quite know what to do about it. He turned to the hound, furrowed his brow, and then turned back to the woman having a melt down. If she went off, it would most likely spell bad news for the goblins, which isn't a thought he really imagined he'd ever had.

"You're not a killer." He echoed, lingering a safe distance away. "You were just telling me that everything in this world is alive. They have wants and desires, and right now those goblins back there want peace. They're monsters seemingly engineered to rape pillage and kill and right now there's one of them back there who wants to be a hero and a knight." He grit his teeth. He had to get to her somehow, and he had a feeling he knew the way.

"If a Goblin can be a Knight and protect the weak, then you can have the powers you do and do good with them. You don't have to be a slave to any dark urges or temptation. We are the decisions we decide to make, not the powers we wield. I know I've just met you, but I can yell you care about people. You gave me my warnings when you didn't need to, you shared your painful memories when you would have rather not. You're strong, and you can fight whatever this is!"

Kaede wanted to lash out and yell at Brutus, he was only saying the same thing she kept telling herself to keep things under control. Grumbling as she staggered a few more steps before falling back to her knees as the voices got loud again and she looked over to Totetsu who refused to step into or away from the cloud still whimpering. She could tell another surge was fighting to go wild but she did not want to hurt her only real friend the last four years, and the only one that even with her flaws or thing that happen still stuck around her.

Biting her lower lip to draw some blood before reaching into her bag for a dagger and proceeding to stab herself to try and calm the voices with a lesser version of 'blood price' they wanted. each wound drawing out a blood dagger of it's own to keep causing self harm until she was barely able to keep focus and the voices once more faded to background sound and the black smoke rolled backwards to her. She bought herself more time, but eventually she would need to fully vent and give the real price she had ended up building.

For now though she had to weakly try and stay upright as Totetsu rushed over and tried to lick the wounds she caused herself, unable to really speak she was fine to the puppy or that it was not as helpful as just letting her chronomancy the wounds away in a second once she was able to move a bit more. Muffled words as she pushed against the puppy and reluctantly Totetsu would just circle around Kaede while laying down to guard her from all sides.

"You... should go talk with those goblins some more... give me a minute or two... And I'll come back after cleaning up my mess here..."

Kaede spoke as loud as she could and at the current time was simply that of a normal or slightly quieted tone as she looked to Brutus. her expression was simply asking to give her a moment to deal with everything and she was fighting to not have another emotional breakdown while someone was nearby. She fought her demons alone, and that was just how she was. Maybe one day she would seek people to help her, but first she needed to get them less hostile to those around her.

Brutus watched the gruesome display of self brutalization with a sense of dread and disgust as he forced herself under control. He was unsure what had set her off, or what would keep her under control. He would hesitantly watch as she calmed down, her dog rushing to her side like the good girl/boy they were. Bomb temporarily diffused, he would simply nod his head at her statement and take a few steps back.

"Take care of yourself, I'll see you back at the camp."

He wasn't sure how safe an idea it was to bring her back to the only camp of friendly goblins he'd ever met, but he wasn't quite sure he could just leave her to her fate like that. Something inside him desperately wanted to help her, but another part of him wanted to wash his hands of the whole affair. She was dangerous, to herself and to others.

Walking back into the camp, he found Gon Gobote sitting by a fire roasting a rabbit and humming to himself. The "knight" looked up from his task and frowned a bit.

"The witch gone?"

"She's uh...taking a moment to process it all."

"I see." The goblin looked back to the rabbit and bit his lip. "And you? I have heard rumors of your brutality."

"Only to those who deserve it."
Brutus grimaced. "As far as I can tell nobody here deserves a cracked skull."

"Strangely I find zose words not very comfortable."

"Neither to I."

Once she was sure Brutus had walked away Kaede would ball up and stop placing a strong and 'i'm ok' face on and allow herself to start crying again. She wanted her normal life back, she wanted to be rid of this dark magic, and she wanted to be able to go more then a day or two without yelling in her head about causing harm or the sort of thing. She just kept getting dealt the screwed up hands from fate and she was really getting broken down from it.

"Is that to much to ask fates... Just a normal life for once... Every bend and turn you have made me suffer or take away the little happy moments you give me... First with being an unwanted child, taking me away from my adopted father and trapping me here... Then this dark magic, taking away someone that made me feel it was not all a curse... and now stuck fighting it every waking moment for control..."

Kaede dug her face into her knees as she spoke, life was only a basket of rotting lemons to her and she really was stuck considering just ending herself if it was not for Totetsu being left with nobody to care for her. Part of her had already made up her mind if the Hound ever ran away she would find her spot and end things there, and hope she did not get dealt another bad hand in the next life if there was like her fathers believed. Either way as she unbaled herself and wiped away her tears as she rose back to her feet she had to keep fighting for now.

Adjusting her cloths before she would reach both hands out to start forming the magic circle to restore the area she had destroyed. One day she hoped all this bad luck would change, but she was not holding her breath, or expecting that miracle. Each step slow and calm, trying to regain some more of her composure before dealing with not only people but what this world viewed as monsters with semblance if civilness even most people did not seem to have.

There was a long, and awkward silence between the giant and the knight. There could only really be an awkward and uncomfortable silence between the two. For the longest time the only good goblin to Brutus was a dead goblin. To the knight, it was like standing next to goblin Hitler. Several other strange goblins lingered nearby, on the off chance any hostility broke out. Both sides were practically oozing distrust.

"So..." Brutus drawled, looking around. "I see you have plenty of women and children." The Knight squinted and looked up to the giant.

"And?" The two locked eyes for a moment, the tension between them tight enough to cut with a knife.

"And I didn't notice a single fortification. No wall, not permanent buildings. How are you supposed to defend this place from raiders?"

The Knight furrowed his brow and rubbed his chin. "I mean...you are not wrong, but buildings would make us too noticeable to raiders in zis part of ze woods."

"Have you thought about moving?"
Brutus offered.

"Zo vere?"

"East? Closer to Honeyhome."

"Closer zo humans?"

"If you're friendly it shouldn't be a problem."

Kaede was taking her time, but eventually she would arrive at the very tense situation and simply sigh when she arrived. These two got along like oil and water and it was honestly not worth thinking the two would ever relax around the other as things stood. Sighing as she simply moved into the camp with her hands behind her back and Totetsu playfully hopping behind her and laying in front of some kids to try and play with them only to scare them away.

"Yall got more tension then my mattress on date night. Either make out, or bro-bound."

Kaede said as she tossed a small set of yarn balls out for the kids to play with or use to tease Totetsu since the puppy loved them but the size made it hard to play very well. Humming as she displayed the fact the puppy tried to swat them around but always over swiped or under swiped until it shrunk down to the size of a normal puppy and chased the yarn around. Looking back to the two tense people as she yawned a little and spoke again.

"So, I do slightly agree with the brute here that not having defense is bad, even if it draws focus it helps if you don't have the numbers to defend a camp. same with traps."

Kaede spoke as she held her bag and kept digging around for things to ease the vibe of the area before pulling some tea bags and going over to a campfire to make them tea and it was just to calm the nerves of the two as she handed a cup to each of them and waked back to go keep an eye on Totetsu while the two tried to come to terms or agreement.

The Giant took a sip of his tea, while the goblin eyed the strange leaf juice as he took a sip. The two both exchanged glances as the woman approached. The mention of her mattress sent a few choice images across his mind. He would watch as she presented toys for the kids to play with her pup and then raise an eyebrow. She was rather...bipolar, perhaps a bit crazy, and he wasn't quite sure he wanted to know anything else about her bed during date night.

Then again, she was pretty.

Rolling his eyes, he would turn to Gon Gobote and continue his proposal. "We could move you further east into a quieter part of the forest, further away from the goblin raiders and gnolls. If you and your people promise to behave, I can extend you the same protection I've been offering Honeyhome, you can put down actual roots, build actual homes, and make steps to building a goblin society."

"You, the Red Giant, would do zhat?"

"If you seek peace, I have no quarrel. If you want to live peacefully, I will enable it."

"And if you need medical supplies or someone in your group to learn basic medical knowledge I can also help so you guys don't have as many injured or sick..."

Kaede would toss in her two cents on the matter before getting out a few medical supplies and working on some things as she watched the kids and the hound playing like a grandmother or mother might. Every so often her hand would move from her work to cast a small magic circle around a kid who tripped to catch them and move them back to solid footing or to stop Totetsu from trying to tackle someone. The hound was smaller yes, but it still had the full weight of the large form and Kaede found that out the hard way the first time.

"If I'm honest though, if only one of you can speak common... 'human' language people won't be as inclined to trust you. Not to mention there will always be people who don't approve of Goblins having the same rights to life as they do."

Kaede would keep the two from getting ahead of themselves with being the voice of downsides. Staying here without defenses was bad, moving closer to people was also bad. They would need to put more thought into the matter and while she had a few ideas what they could do it was a matter of sharing it with the class. Humming as she placed the powder herb she had finished into a jar and proceeded to work on the next batch needed to fill it. Hand moving to catch another kid to stop them from falling over before she would resume her work.

She did take note to some of the women taking interest in what she was doing, one even trying to copy with the wrong type of herb causing a small chuckle from Kaede. She was a terrible teacher, but maybe starting with Goblins or working with them would be easier then trying to teach young adults how to fight or use magic responsibly. Either way she would work at a slower pace to let the goblin woman keep up.

"Humans will attack us if not careful." Gon would interject in response to to Kaede. "Zough I am working on others speaking human. I am most...good at it." He would nod proudly.

"I have a decent amount of clout back in Honeyhome, I could probably convince the people to leave the goblins alone if they don't start anything."

"Why would clouds make zem not attack?"
Gon would ask.

"Clout. It means uh...I have a good reputation with them. They know me as a problem solver."

"And zere problems are mostly goblins, no?"
Gon raised an eyebrow.

"And? If their chief goblin killer says he's found a bunch of friendly goblins that would lend more credence to my statement. If I do nothing but kill them en masse, making friends with them would mean that I actually trust you."

The knight rubbed his chin, hemming and hawing while the other goblins began to chitter amongst themselves in goblin. The large, rotund goblin would jabber something to the one in the red cloak, and he would scamper over and whisper into Gon's ear. The goblin would think for a moment, and then turn to Brutus.

"Boomer says zhat zhere is an old gnoll camp to the south east of here. Zhey abandon it because of new travelers, but humies no trust they no come back. Perhaps we take zhat place for us?"

Kaede's focus would stay on her work as she listened to the back and forth between Gon and Brutus, the beastman really liked to toot his own horn and so did Gon it seemed. Sighing how most all men seemed like that as she moved the second batch into the bottle and mixed it with some water to turn the green powder into a sky blue. Checking it in the sunlight before she would set it down and work on the next part of the fever medicine.

"You would then run the risk of people thinking Gnoll and goblin working together. Or you dealt with the Gnolls and pose more threat then a common goblin."

Once more placing the two cents of the Pessimist into the mix as she tried to roughly measure out the next ingredient. The few flower petals she had took forever to grow even with her magic and just slightly to much or to little always made the patch go sideways. Adding the three Petals she had into the bottle and beginning to shake it while using Chronomancy to accelerate the time of the content allowing it to age as it needed with less time.

She wondered how many lives she could have saved had she finished her medical degree before getting trapped here, Hell or just been able to keep up with her studies while playing to find ways to teach people of this world things she could have learned. The other thought was how far medical development could go in the real world had they use of the same magic she did. The con was that would also likely add the dark magic and that would only keep the world at a standstill like this one. Either way as she stopped the magic and shaking of the bottle the once sky blue was now a crimson red with purple lights flickering within.

"Damn it... one of the petals was to strong... God alchemy would make this so much easier rather then pinballing off book knowledge..."

She mumbled to herself as she stowed the bottle away for now and would need to get home to fix it.
