To think she had been shown where to get these herbs, and memorized exactly where they were, all in relation to one another. To think she had counted her steps and by now trained her nose to pick up on that subtle scent of magic that came with the territory of mildly enchanted foliage. To think that she had harvested these same herbs at least four different times apiece and made it back to town in one piece.

Only to end up so lost for hours and hours to come.

It began with a light shower in the afternoon. A little rain wasn't going to stop Azykia from having a picnic, much less going out of town to find herbal remedies for the all too in-need people of Honeyhome. She simply made a large umbrella out of bright blue magic thanks to her Arcanamancy and held it overhead. It was only a bit later that the showers picked up, and the hard rain knocked loudly against her shield from the water. Then, thunder struck so suddenly and so loudly that she had fumbled the one herb she had picked up by then, as well as the umbrella (which began to dissipate as she left it to its fate). The girl scrambled to recover that which she had lost, but in doing so unwittingly turned herself a few too many degrees to the left.

From then on, everything was off. Her landmarks made no sense. Azzy knew soon enough that something had to be amiss. She backtracked, and somehow wound up even deeper in the forest. For hours and hours, she kept pushing onward. She even tried to use her hydromancy to paint the ley of the land around her so she could navigate her way back home, but there was simply too much rain for what she could manage. It was looking like a night out in the forest.

As the rain stifled the calls she had made for help hours ago, thunder continued to boom at what was total random to the girl who was blind to the lightning heralding it. Yet even in this storm, she wasn't the only one out and about tonight, in a number of ways. Most importantly to her at the moment though was the one that shot through her foot like a thorned spike, causing her to let out a sudden scream and bolt forward away from it.

She wasn't knowledgeable about blood blooms, and indeed had never heard of one before, so she couldn't have imagined that was what actually caused her such sudden pain. It wasn't that big of a problem, as even after tumbling forward due to the pain in her foot, she touched up the wound quickly with a bright light cast from her hands. She pushed herself up and continued right on her not-so-merry way away from whatever had just attacked her.

Azykia bashed face first into a tree and yelped, prompting her to reach up and cover her face. That was when she heard something trudging towards her across the soaked ground. She couldn't tell what it was yet, but it was only a matter of time before it neared her. She put up a wall of bright blue magic between herself and it, and as it leapt at the barrier, it flickered, showing off just how little energy she had left after wandering out lost all day.

The girl heard a yelp, like a dog's whine. She had heard that there were wolves around Eastern Brisshal, but this would have been her first time encountering one. She had no idea if she could even handle it, especially after... well, everything else.

As the wild howled and the rain drummed on the rooftops, the Black Wolf knew it was time. With night approaching, she could feel the powers deep within her core growing. Soon, there would be none in Honeyhome and its surroundings that could stand in her way. Yet, she had to make sure of this. A show of power that would let even the most primitive of minds know that there was a beast that was not to be crossed.

A wide smile stretched across her face as she felt the droplets beat against her skin, wetting the few rags that she wore as clothes. As much as they would cling to her skin, there wasn't enough to impede her movements. She already knew that much from experience and, in fact, loved the sensation. It was refreshing and, in some way, felt wild. Feral. Unbound. Perhaps because people would generally hide away from the rain, yet she embraced it and welcomed it like this.

Grinning, the dark-skinned woman would dash between the houses and quickly leave the town's boundary, kicking grass and mud behind her whenever her feet made contact with the ground. It took finesse and expertise not to slip, to dash around so freely. With the illumination from the moon, Lucille would know her path. So what was her goal tonight? To hunt! If she wanted to bend the will of the local wildlife, she would have to showcase her raw power!

Thus was the woman's hour of twilight. Stalking the woods to find packs of wolves and cut through their flesh, carve her dark powers into their bones! It wasn't her first time doing such a thing, so it was hardly difficult. Yet, there was a surprise on her menu tonight.

As she dashed through the forest, her ears twitched, droplets of water flying off, as she heard something. It was faint, but she clearly heard it. A human voice - a shriek! Consumed by curiosity, the girl's directly changed sharply, her body sliding across the mud as the momentum refused her change of plans for a few more seconds.

Eager to see what was going on and to retain an element of surprise, she even leaped on top of low-hanging branches to let her get higher and higher, eventually finding her way across the crowns of the many trees that surrounded her in every direction. From there, it didn't take long to find the source.

"Hum?" Her dual-colored eyes glowed in the dark, observing the girl sharply. It looked like she was working her magic against a wolf. A stray, perhaps? Clearly not part of a pack. Looked like an amusing situation regardless. Squatting down atop one of the higher branches, the lupine woman let out her boisterous voice, loud enough to be heard even through the thunderstorm.

"OHO? What is it here… another soul, steeped in the dark, out hunting for blood? I admire your courage, little human! My eyes are eager to witness it… your triumph over thy foe! SHOW ME YOUR GREAT POWER!" It was almost like a form of cheerleading. Of course, Lucille had not realized that maybe the other girl was not in a position where something like that would help her a whole lot.

As the stray wolf recuperated, and Azykia tried almost desperately to spray out a mist so she could tell where it was, she was introduced to two new sensations. First was the emotional complex of somebody else nearby. Given that feeling the emotions of others still wasn't something that she was fully aware she could do, all it managed to do was fill her with a sense of dread, as rather than feeling the usual joy or sadness or even anger that some of her friends had exhibited in her company, this individual felt unique in comparison.

This vitriol, this ecstatic almost tickling of pride put a pit in her chest as she was spoken down to from above, like some sort of gladiator forced to fight for their life against a lion. It may not have been a lion, this wolf, but also, most gladiators weren't known historically to be blind.

"Who are-!" She began to call out as she felt the wolf leap by her and get a good slash in. She yelped as it hit her, and she spun around to lash out at it in pain. As she faced the direction she thought it had been, she called out a few words of incantation.

In the next moment, a cluster of sharp and jagged spirals sprawled forth a few degrees off from the wolf, leaving a tangle of bright blue magic to pour forth and smash several whole trees to pieces. It was clear from her panicked attack for anyone to see that she easily had the power to clean out most of Eastern Brisshal with little worry. It was the starting zone, after all.

Yet with all that power, for some reason it seemed to do her little good as the wolf attacked her again before she could get another spell up to protect herself. Its teeth all but latched onto her hand, prompting yet another painful yelp from the girl. The worst part was, even if she dealt with this CR 1 wolf, she still probably had to deal with whoever was watching. Not knowing friend from foe, she didn't dare to call out for help. Instead, she continued fighting as best she could against the worst kind of foe for her to deal with: anything ordinary, but quieter than a bear.

Lucille certainly did not expect to witness such a spectacle in the middle of the night, in the middle of the forest. Yet here she was, observing the tiny human as they did their best to fight the wolf. And while that whole situation came across as a bit pathetic, there was that big attack that managed to considerably change the battlefield in one fell swoop. Shame it didn't even graze the wolf. A bit strange, honestly. Did the girl have power and trouble controlling it?

Leaping down from the tree, a wet splash sounded the girl's landing. Now the wolf was biting into her hand like it was some kind of chew toy, and all the human could manage was a cry of pain? Lucille sighed to herself. "Hey, hey, what is this… I saw someone facing a wolf and thought that I had found a fellow soul hunting down the beasts to gorge on their innards, feed their dark powers… so how come that you can't even fend off against a single one?" While talking, the woman walked over rather leisurely, her dual-colored eyes watching the pair from head to toe.

"Hmph—!" In a single motion, the beastfolk's hands would be between the wolf's jaw and Azykia's bloodied flesh and cloth. It didn't take much for her to simply force the creature's maw open, releasing the hand from its hold, then keeping the poor wolf in place as it struggled, unable to fight against the woman's raw physical strength fueled by dark magic. "There. You just need time to cast your dark arts, yes? Fufu, show me just how seeped in the dark your soul is, little human! I am eager to witness it!"

There was much excitement in Lucille's voice as her gaze rested on the girl. She simply did not entertain the thought that anyone without taboo masteries could be in this place at this hour, so she fully expected the young girl to whip out a whip of pure darkness, or start charging an orb of shadows that would then blast the wolf into smithereens. Her whole being was ready to dodge to the side as a giant attack of pitch-blackness would be unleashed to consume the beast whole! Yes! Surely there could not be disappointment ahead, in any form!

The moment her hand had been freed, she pulled herself back a few steps and wasted little time recuperating just enough to heal her hand. Not with dark arts, but the divine. As she stood as still as she could, stifling her panting for air through her slowly built-up exhaustion over the hours, she deemed that no one was moving. All she could hear was the rain coming down. This voice, this spectator longing for carnage. Whoever she was, she had clearly misunderstood the situation.

"I'm not trying to gorge on anyone's innards or power!" She wasn't quite shouting, but she had to make sure she could be heard over the heavy rain. "And I don't have any dark arts, either! I'm just-" She didn't want to admit to being lost. Not so blatantly as to wound her own pride. After all, she usually got frustrated with her friends when they doted on her far too much and did everything for her out of sympathy for her handicap. Why would she want this stranger to take pity on her?

Perhaps she shouldn't think of it that way. After all, she could use it to survive. Her pride was just that strong and stubborn sometimes, and with her current levels of frustration, now was certainly one of those times. It was clear on her face as she finally took a moment to brush her soaking wet hair off of her face, allowing a clear look at her glaring, pupil-less turquoise eyes. "You're not another Starcalled, are you?"

Lucille already had the girl in her sights, so when a divine light momentarily lifted the darkness of the night, the Dark Wolf was quite taken aback. Maybe she just saw wrong? Surely this girl did not possess the direct opposite of what Lucille had thought, right? But as things progressed, it only became more and more clear. Letting out a sigh, the dark-skinned girl would let go of the wolf's maw for a brief moment, only for one of her hands, coated in black magic and forming giant claws, to pierce the beast's side and deliver it to its maker.

"The hell is a Starcalled?" She simply asked as she let the digital corpse fall to the ground before dissipating the dark energy and walking over to the human girl. Much of her excitement quickly faded now that she knew she was standing in front of a sworn enemy of the Dark. But at least it made sense why she lost so badly - divine magic could never possibly produce any level of power!

Squatting down in front of Azykia, Lucille would gaze into those strange eyes, not making much of it yet. After all, her own eyes were pretty unusual. Shame the other girl could not tell. "So what are you doing here anyway, divine girl? You are in the domain of Darkness, begging for your life to be ended by the wild beasts." No sane person would be out in the middle of the night during a heavy thunderstorm, which was exactly why Lucille was out and about. But this girl? It was suspicious!

Azykia blinked a couple times as she had to quickly process both what this woman was saying and what her best course of action was. For starters, didn't every lander know what a Starcalled was?

"I'm a player--being Starcalled means you're a player." She clarified, speaking only a bit more softly if only due to how close the stalker of the night had gotten to her. It was only now that the girl realized she was huffing for air, trying to catch her breath after running around in the rain lost for the last... however long it had been. She had honestly lost track by now.

"I'll be honest, okay?" She took a step back. "I came out here looking for herbs to help the landers in Honeyhome, but I got... lost." She said that word with such defeat, such scorn towards herself, as her head tilted down just a bit.

"If you're going to kill me, go ahead, but I won't sit here and make it easy just because I'm blind." While most people would say something like that so fiercely, her tone was level and just short of matter-of-fact, like one noble talking to another at an upper-class gathering. Not quite a challenge, nor a stand of defiance. Just something she believed to be true, it seemed.

"OH. Ooooh!" Even the heavy rain could not drown out the sound of realization that Lucille had let out. Somehow she had completely missed the fact that players had a special name like that. Maybe it was because of her demeanor that people either assumed she was already plenty versed in the matters of this world, or just plain didn't want to interact with her. They were fools if they fell into the second category.

As for her company, the other girl was just plain weird. Who gets lost in a forest spanning the starting zone? Especially while gathering herbs, of all things. Though things made more sense as the small girl continued explaining. She was blind?? Lucille nearly spat out as she momentarily struggled with speaking. So instead of going into it, she just walked over to Azykia, stopping right in front of her. She might have acted mighty, but there was no way someone like her could actually fight, Lucille thought.

"Have no fear! You have imparted new knowledge onto this Wolf! For that, you shall be granted mercy! Fufu, be thankful~" Of course she never had any plans to hurt or outright kill the girl in the first place. But now that this was conveyed, she moved even closer and grabbed Azykia under her armpits and lifted her into the air like she was a toddler or something. "Well, it can't be helped. I shall lend my immeasurable power to thee to find the herbs you seek and return thee to the sacred home! Don't get why want herbs though, meat makes a much better meal."

As she was lifted into the air, she struggled a bit, only so far as to express that she was confused. Soon enough she eventually relaxed and stared slightly down at the general vicinity of Lucille's face. "... Eh? That's..." She was still huffing for air, something that was new to her in both worlds. "Very kind of... you..." She uttered between breaths.

Meat makes a much better meal. Yeah, this girl was a wolf alright. At the very least, Azykia drew the assumption that if she was a player, she was most likely some sort of beastfolk. Probably a wolf, considering everything said so far. "I..." She took one good, deep breath.

"The herbs are for medicinal purposes. There are people in Honeyhome who need them so they don't get sick." She explained as patiently as anyone could. This was her first video game, so she didn't expect anyone to be familiar with the concept of herb gathering quests. She hadn't been until recently, after all. "I wouldn't advise eating them. I'm not even sure if they have a taste."

"Regardless... I can't tell you how appreciative I am to have your assistance-... Ah, right. I'm... Azykia, by the way. Most of my friends call me some sort of nickname though. And, I'm blind, as I already said. Actually, I can see, smell, and taste magic instead of physical things. It's a privilege to meet you, Your Mercifulness." She couldn't help but to giggle just a bit all of a sudden. Ever since she came back from her hiatus, she had caught herself acting a bit differently here and there, but she couldn't really place the how or why. Just that it was happening like right now where she was making a joke at her would-be captor's expense. How childish of her.

... Oh. That might be it actually. "And, if I do anything that offends you, or can make you more comfortable, please don't hesitate to ask." Crisis averted, hopefully.

Out of breath even though she fought but a single wolf, and unsuccessfully. Yeah, this girl very much needed Lucille's help! At the very least, the blondie knew how to express her gratitude. As far as words went, at least. That aside, the lupine girl still couldn't believe how silly this whole thing sounded. "Medicine? Sheesh, just get someone with a healing mastery, wasting your time like this… whatever!"

If she were to showcase her endless power and mercifulness, then she would have to take the blind girl home, but only after they found the herbs as was promised. So what better way to do that but race across the entire forest? Without any warning, Lucille would reposition Azykia, instead carrying her under one arm like some kind of luggage, pressed up between her right hand and side.

"If you can see magic, then I must appear truly magnificent to you, I understand. But that also means that the herbs must be magical as well if you were picking them, right? Just let me know when you spot them!" Not letting the other girl get another word in before they'd begin, the wolf girl would leap forward at maximum speed, quickly gaining momentum and sprinting between the trees, against the heavy beating of the thunderstorm.

Hopefully, Azykia wasn't against feeling like a rag in the wind for a little while or that her voice did not fail her yet, as she would probably have to scream quite a bit for her voice to get all the way to Lucille's ears with all the wind rushing past them as they dashed around. Her wolf savior might have been eager, but also perhaps a bit too much so. She also much preferred doing things directly and by force rather than having to actually use her brain.

The way she had been shifted was disorienting, and really just made Azykia feel less like someone's younger sister and more like a stuffed animal Lucille had won from a crane game at the arcade. Free to be dragged around with little ability to react aside from holding onto the girl's arm for dear life as they were carried forth so quickly all of a sudden. Thankfully, getting knocked into the stratosphere almost a month ago had made this a lot more bearable.

"Wait, Miss Wolf!" She had to get this girl's name as soon as possible. No way she was calling someone 'Miss Wolf' all night. "The herbs aren't magical enough for me to see!" She tried her best to convey over the forest rushing past. "I just memorized where they usually grow!"

Once she figured out which way up was, she sprouted an umbrella from her hand made entirely out of a glowing bright blue light and did her best to hold it above the two. If she were familiar, it would be obvious to Lucille that she was using Arcanamancy, and it was sturdy enough to damage anything the umbrella came into contact with, rather than the umbrella itself caving to the pressure of the wind or flora.

Well, that plan of action fell through almost as quickly as it was put together. The moment Azykia shouted the warning that her ability to sense magic would be of little use, Lucille stopped sharply, feet digging into the muddy earth and sliding a few more meters due to the lack of friction until they stopped completely. As she did, she would once again manhandle the girl in her arm to now hold her with both of her hands in front of her, just like before. At least the poor lass couldn't see her wolf's frown.

"You can't sense them? You remember where they usually grow? What'cha waiting for then, spill out where they grow so we can head there!" The only issue was that the forest somewhat lacked in the department of discernable landmarks. Not that those would have helped someone like Azykia unless they were landmarks she could physically touch along the way. Who knew that finding a bunch of plants would be this difficult in a place that was full of vegetation.

The umbrella didn't help the predicament much. Both of the girls were already drenched from head to toe, their clothes heavy from all the absorbed water. Well, Lucille wasn't exactly wearing much, but still - they were prone to get cold after this. And while the lupine girl kinda liked the refreshing sensation of falling raindrops on her skin as she raced through the forest, she accepted the umbrella's help without a word, for now.

As the younger girl was whipped around by 'this wolf', she swore that if she had vision she would had suffered some severe motion sickness by now. As she was held out once again, Azzy couldn't help but to let out a heavy sigh.

"Uhm..." Azykia clicked her tongue a couple times, trying to think of any alternative solutions. After all, the last thing she wanted to admit to anyone was that she had gotten utterly lost, or was otherwise helpless in her endeavors. Even with all the people who were happy to help her, and never had a problem with it, it was still embarrassing to not be able to keep up with the struggles she had asked for.

Maybe she was the one she didn't want to admit it to.

"Well I have to count my steps and use landmarks, you see, so given I don't know where we are right now..." She reached up and put her hands carefully on Lucille's arms. "More importantly, what's your name? Surely you aren't trying to go by 'Miss Wolf' all night?" Even while being held out like the child she halfway was, she spoke with a structured and dignified air, like some sort of blind noble.

As she continued holding the girl in her arms, she would think real hard about everything that was said. It took a little while for it all to be properly sorted in her head, but before she made any conclusions, it seemed that this poor being also wanted to know her noble name. She snickered. "You may call this might wolf od darkness Lucille Fer! It is a name that carries true might with it, so be glad for the blessing of knowing it!" But as this playful bander that was very much the usual for the lupine girl, she would pause and stare blankly.

"So... return to the start and count steps again..?" She simply said. She had no idea how to find the herbs, and if Azykia could not efficiently lead her to them, then what exactly were they supposed to do anyway? It wasn't like Lucille herself knew how to count her steps to arrive exactly where they needed to be to find the plants! She still questioned why these were necessary at all when healing magic existed, but oh well. "Unless you can count steps from here."

"Lucille... Fer?" It took her a few seconds to think of something mildly amusing about that name, causing her to smile just a touch. "Indeed, I do believe that is a name worth fearing. Regardless, it's very nice to meet you, Lucille."

"Well, the more you say it... Uhm..." For once, she was a bit lost on what to do. "Well the only way I could possibly find my way to them now is if we returned to Honeyhome." She sniffled, suddenly feeling the full realization that she was lost in a terrible rain storm, and how exhausted these last few hours had made her. She slumped more and more in Lucille's grip as she tried to figure out if she was still crying from earlier, or if it was just the vengeful sky water. Even if it wasn't tears of panic and sadness, tears of fatigue were believable for her at this point.

"But I couldn't ask you to do that for me. Perhaps as much as returning me to town, sure, but I..." Her 'gaze' trailed down. Her will to keep that professional shell on her face fading with her energy as she even became a bit lazy about holding the umbrella overhead. "What were you doing before you found me? You already rescued me. I should be repaying you, I feel like."

The wolf woman listened as her gaze narrowed slightly. She had no idea why the youngster was so distressed, talking the way she did. But either way, once she mentioned 'Honeyhome', Lucille would stop listening, moving Azykia around in her hands before almost 'tossing' her onto her back. Hopefully the young girl had enough foresight to wrap her hands around Lucille's neck as the wolf did not wait long before she would start dashing at full speed again. Hm? Me? I was hunting the creatures of night. But I guess the storm scared them all off, the cowards! Couldn't find anything to hunt down to improve my skills.

Unless she wanted to hunt Azykia herself, of course. Not anymore, naturally. And the first time she saw her pitiful form, she figured it would be no challenge anyway. No matter the girl's protests, the wolf of eternal darkness would dash and weave between the trees. Her sense of orientation was surprisingly good, not to mention her speed. The town of beginner players would soon emerge in front of them, the night lights that did their best to illuminate outdoor roads even amidst the storm visible first. As soon as they arrived, Lucille would make another sharp stop. Alright, we're here. How many steps in which direction then? She didn't let Azykia go from her back.
