Personality
"Don't trust others to do the job. Do it yourself, and you know it'll be done right."
When he was growing up, the Player's father was extremely hard on him. He instilled the values of hard work and ownership in his son, and those characteristics factored heavily into his gamer personality. Rather than forging ahead as a team player, he became an independent, carry type soloist who- while he contributes to a team- doesn't necessarily depend on the team.
Except for Tsukiji, it goes much further and deeper. A sincere, deep-seated distrust for others drives him to avoid most player interaction, favoring instead quests he can complete alone. Markedly, his character IS A MUTE, he has no voice by design so that he can avoid conversing with others.
His main allies are his weapons, an arsenal of magically aspected firearms each with their own utility.
Positive: Motivated, Ambitious, Methodical
Negative: Withdrawn, Arrogant, Lone Wolf
Background
The Major League Gaming circuit has been competitive since its inception. To stay relevant, players round out their skills playing many types of games. MOBAs, RTS, and FPS are some of the more prominent genres, and Jaek was phenomenal when it came to virtually all of them. But when he got sucked into MMO culture by a friend, he started to fall behind things like meta knowledge, and he skipped practices to pour hours into raiding and gearing his MMO character.
Time came for skirts and during the practice heats, Jaek failed to qualify. His spot on the team, normally guaranteed, was filled by a newcomer to the scene, and lost his motivation. Already complacent with his new MMO gaming lifestyle, Jaek put in long hours and neglected his health. When it came time for the big raid he'd been preparing for, he was too sick to participate in prog and the sub who had been studying with him ended up locking in his spot.
Completely deflated, Jaek took a sabbatical from gaming. He started to look for work, but the only jobs he was qualified for were entry level, and didn't come close to the salary that he was used to. He started to eat less, drinking and doing recreational drugs to numb the pain.
That was when an old friend slipped him a QR code, and suddenly, gaming had his attention all over again.
