Open Eastern Brisshal Training is Everything

It was a quiet afternoon in Eastern Brisshal, the sun was shining and except for one person ruining the scene, everything was picturesque.

"LEFT, RIGHT, SWING, STEP, SLASH!"

Regan was practicing her attacks on an underserving tree. Even this woman, who was quickly becoming known for her brutality, understood that practice made perfect and if she was to become the world's strongest warrior and Vampire Queen of Terrasphere, she would need to become even stronger than she currently was, much stronger than she currently was.

"More. I need to hit harder, be faster, and cut deeper. This isn't even close to enough."

Readying herself once more, Regan once again went through the motions of slashing, stepping, hitting, and striking. Each time she went through the motions Regan tried to improve by making each attack deadlier, each movement faster. It wasn't easy, but neither was becoming the strongest in the world.

"COME ON YOU DUMB IDIOT, HIT IT HARDER!"

Regan's shouting could be heard from quite a distance away.

"*Giggle* Weak!"

The teasing shout of a teenager came from behind The Birdfolk as a slight chill passed through the air. If the woman turned around she would see the newcomer brushing her hair as she sat on top of a large gray stone in the forest. In front of her was a small light that without Spirit Magic may be nearly impossible to make out or hear. The spirit was Chibi Magi and she held a ring of magic light that was acting as a sort of mirror for Wendel. the Dark Magi.

"Hey don't stop on my account. You look like you're having a blast over there buuuut I think the tree's winning♥."

Several unidentifiable shadow creatures ran by the winged woman's feet. They scurried around the trees, only to vanish in areas where the sun broke through the tree's branches.

"Those little critters follow me everywhere... they're usually harmless *giggle*"

"Stop picking on the nice mature lady Wendy. She's kinda loud but I think she's focusing."

Pfft focuses on being a loser. Wendel tied one side of her hair into a ponytail as she moved to brush out the other side.

"Really though... need any help old lady?"

Kat walked through the forest disgruntled. She had a bread roll in her hand, and was munching on it with a really sour look on her face. The one thing she loved about playing these VR games was the amazing food, and here she was having picked the one race that couldn't taste anything. She just had to eat to get the stupid food meter up.

She grumbled, but louder than her own grumbling was the sound of someone shouting what sounded like a weird button combo. Despite this being a VR game. She poked her head around the nearby tree to see two individuals. One a more mature looking lady striking a tree with her weapon very aggressively, and the other a more petite girl taunting the mature lady.

Kat stuffed the bun in her mouth and grunted, watching as the food meter went to max, unsure if she should interact or bother these two. She wasn't sure their relationship, or why the larger lady was training so hard. She could have been a very violent and evil person.

So for now, she would just watch. She crouched down behind the tree and used the game's auto assist to cast a quick shadow incantation to make herself harder to see in the gloom of the forest.

Regan turned with a growl but then suddenly looked tired as she eyed the teenage-looking girl that was watching her.

As a teacher in the real world, dealing with girls like this one was just part of the job.

Sighing, Regan returned to her tree.

"I've known a lot of little girls like you and you're all the same. Spit vitriol, act superior, become the Queen Bee of your grade then go on to amount to nothing. There's no one here to impress by insulting me. Don't you have some homework to do, little girl? Go home, your taunts are pathetic."

Now where was I? Step, cut, slash. Hmm... this blade I got from Honeyhome really isn't cutting it anymore. Cutting it... HAH! That was a good one. I'm actually pretty funny when I try. Still, yeah, a new sword is going to be necessary.

Taking a few steps back, Regan used her saber to cut her hand. The gash started to bleed, as it did she put her saber in her scabbard forming a sword out of her blood.

Let's try this.

Using her blood sword, Regan once again went through her attack motions. This time, the sword cut deeper but still not strong enough to be to Regan's liking.

I need to get much stronger than this.

Wendel tied another ponytail and now looked with both her red and pink eye at the now bleeding lady. Chibi Magi would try to wave to the newcomer eating ta bun not too far away.

"You talk like a kind of people person I may have met before too old lady. What was then was then though. Now's what's important. And you're acting like that won't be as helpful as I could be♥.!"

She looked at the cut the woman made, she used blood magic... that brought back memories of vermy. This was hardly anything like a real blood weapon. It was so small. And again with the tree slashing. Poor tree getting tickled to death... heh.

"Mommy nature do something bad, or are just mad cause you're getting wrinkles? That tree isn't going to fight back. You can't get stronger that way.'.

A smile and look to the newcomer.

"See that girl over there? If you did the same thing to her, she'd be more likely to., you know, react *giggle*"

"WENDY! That's not going to do anything but cause trouble!"

"Gee whiz, this world IS trouble. Why not practice it the right way? Here. I'll show you how much blood you can really get out of that old veiny arm of yours.."

With a gesture of her pale hand, (a close look would show how some veins in her own hand were pretty dark looking like black drawings on her flesh. She tossed what may have once been a healing spell at the woman's arm, it easily crossed the distance between them like a dark streak and upon colliding with the wound, it tore it open to twice the size. A bunch more blood would sorely gush out now!

"Comeon old lady... or are you gonna drop dead instead♠"

A shot quick wink to the new girl with a gesture of someone drowning holding her nose and buckling her knee like she was letting her in on some joke before seeing what would happen. If nothing else at least the hostility was an energy charge. The bun made Wendel realize she hadn't had a good meal in a while since getting back to Astorea.

Kat silently cursed herself for having let herself be spotted. She should have known she had been too obvious when walking around as it was, the shadow magic basically having done nothing in the end. But she probably couldn't be too upset, she was a beginner to this game, and wasn't even that great of a gamer in other games she played anyway. She always just played most games for fashion and food, and to have an excuse to hang out more with her girlfriend anyway. Of course she had messed this up.

Slowly, she came out of the shadows of her spell, she supposed if nothing else she at least had that speed perk she had picked. Perhaps she could just outrun the danger, like the coward she didn't mind being. But for now, she'd at least give these two the proper time of day and see what happened next.

The answer to that, was blood magic, followed by hostility. Kat couldn't help but cover her mouth in disgust as the blood flowed from the woman's open wound. This game was much more real than what she was used to playing, that was for sure. She hadn't expected that to be the case.

"I... I'm not here to fight anyone! I was just passing by! I doubt I'd really put up any more of a fight than the tree!"

The other problem was, Kat had no real healing to speak of, or else she would have gladly helped seal up the wound that the smaller girl had caused. The more mature lady seemed to be bleeding a lot now. It honestly was making Kat feel a bit queasy, if she was being honest. The petite girl seemed to be making a big joke out of all of this, but Kat didn't find it all that funny. This woman could actually die! Game or no, that would suck, Kat was certain of it.

"Why did you do that to her?"

Kat asked as honestly as she could. She could have probably guessed. "For fun" would be the common answer. It was a game, people did whatever they pleased because the consequences weren't as serious as the real world. But Kat would play along, dragging a smile across her face to make the question seem as innocent as possible, and perhaps as defenseless as possible in case the large woman turned her attention to her. More useless than hitting a tree was definitely the goal in perception here.

Looking down at the now gaping wound in her arm, Regan didn't wince. Watching as her blood gurgled out, Regan did the only thing should could think of, she held to her mouth and drank.

Let's see if this works, I guess it's like recycling haha! Damn, I'm funny. Still, so this is the kind of monster I'll have to overcome in this world. People like this. Maybe she'll even kill me. Who knows?

"The bear I fought a while back drew much more blood. Either attempt to kill me or not, but not even I play with my food..."

Suddenly, Magi mentioned another.

Turning fiercely she saw a small-looking girl coming into vision as though before she had been cloaked in shadows.

No... not a little one. Not now...

Unfurling her wings quickly, Regan rushed in between Magi and the Kat.

"IF YOU WANT TO TOY WITH ME FINE, HAH, I'LL EVEN ADMIT THAT YOU'RE STRONGER... FOR NOW... BUT THE GIRL GOES FREE."

Blood running down her arm and face, Regan turned to Kat.

"Run, little one. I can't win, but I can slow her down."

"*Giggle* Gee whiz, really?!"

Wendel slid down the rock and made what may have been a puzzled look as her brows came closer together. Rather than use the wound and pain to her advantage, the old lady just went to protect the other girl. They were both so much weaker than her but...

"Sigh... I don't even know what to say. I know you won't listen."

"Pfft, chibi pest, I thought you'd notice. Isn't that the bestest thing? The old lady has protected her like a momma hen ̷̮͗ẖ̴̀e̸͙̅h̶̪͝ẻ̷̜h̷̤̾ë̵̖́h̷̟͊.̴̝̏'̶͇̈́.'.

The rising tension, that concern and anger, it was real wasn't it? A worthwhile repayment for the training she was offering. Otherwise, she'd have to hunt some rabbit or maybe...

"You see that? You're a hero huh? Let's see how long...*"

Raising her hand to her side, Gertrude appeared. She would grasp it as she continued, her teasing tone gone.

"If you're going to be a shield do better! Give up your life♥!"

It would be fast, a barrage of dark arrows aiming straight for the girl behind the winged one. It was meant to be a bit weaker than that but since when could the Dark Magi hold back all that well? Luckily it was just a single string of blasts with little Astral punch so it would be funny if they both died from just that!

"This is not giving the message you want! No one learns anything from random acts of hostility like that! Stop it!"

Maybe it was, or maybe it wasn't. It was fun though and if they were too weak to grow stronger then a swift death would be merciful for them. Wendel loved being so helpful.

Kat sighed, there was always these people at the bar too. The crazy weirdos that really wanted to strut around like peacocks and start a fight with everyone. She didn't really need the larger woman to protect her. This wasn't her first game, and she hoped that this game's auto assist would be enough to help her learn how to properly use her weapons. With a click a blade slid out from beneath her kimono sleeve. She activated her Dynamism and tried her best to track where the arrows were coming at her. The auto assist gave her a point to be able to parry them, but she would have to be incredibly fast to get all of them. And well, that was what the Dynamism was for.

It was a simple starter blade, but it held up decently underneath the pressure of the dark arrows clanging against it. It wasn't until the last couple that it snapped, and before Kat knew it she had two arrows stuck in her stomach. She looked down, black blood pooling and staining the kimono she wore, her health dropping quite a bit, but thankfully not into dangerous levels. She had blocked enough of the arrows, it seemed. She coughed up a little of the blood. It was weird how realistic this was. Almost too real.

Kat chuckled, and leaned on the woman who had come to protect her for support.

"Well, my weapon broke. But I'll try to still help if I can. Not sure what you did to piss off this little lady, but maybe you shouldn't have."

Kat tried her best to smile and joke despite the situation, she didn't really want to die so quickly in the game, but at least it was just a game. At least she'd still respawn. She had wanted to try things out without Ryou, see how things went, have some fun. Turns out she should have waited for her girlfriend after all. Oops.

She closed her eyes, feeling her breath run ragged from the wound. Too real. This was going to take a lot of getting used to.

Kaede was sure this time, she was in fact lost. A heavy sigh as she ducked under another tree and wondered why she decided to go out again so soon. It was not long until the annoying little voice in her head chimed about dark magic going off nearby as she could only sigh yet again. Twice in the past week she had to deal with other dark magic users and this time a stronger one as she picked up her pace from a lazy stroll to half running in the direction.

"Oh... This kid again..."

Kaede mumbled under her breath as she arrived and firstly noticed Magi before taking in the other two who seemed to be the targets of the dark magic. Why could this Kid not pick up something like sewing or learn to play well with others? Sure Kaede was not fully sure if the situation was provoked but even as dense as she was she could tell the two getting attacked did not stand much chance without some help as she tapped her staff to wake it up.

"Support duty, lets try to keep the newer players or weaker ones alive. I doubt even with their help we could stop the edgy loli but very least i can slow her down long enough if things get dicey."

More mumbled words to herself as Kaede watched her staff meld into black goo and drift into a small halo shape facing the two under attack. The faint outline of a clock spinning in reverse as Kaede turned the hands of time back on the wounds as she stepped closer to the outer middle region. It was so in the event things got worse she could get between them and bare her own fangs. Part of her wanted to just do it anyways, but she wanted to not go slipping into dark mode this week.

"Sorry to step in if this was a planned fight, but even i can tell they won't stand much chance against you edgy loli. Also Hi again, I'll just assist them, less you want a more fair fight I guess."

Kaede mused as she sat down on a rock looking at the three of them. She was taking notes in her head, what each could do from what she had seen. What she could advise if they wanted mentorship from the elf, or more so what Magi heart was doing to make sure if she noticed even slightly serious from the girl she could react with minimal injury to the others.

Regan took several of the dark arrows to various parts of her body. They suck in her making her look less like a human and more of a wounded beast.

Turning, she noticed that she wasn't the only one that had been injured. For Regan, it wasn't so much that she knew this newcomer or that she even really what their personality was like, all that mattered was that she was small and cute and for Regan, all things small and cute needed to be protected. It was her soft spot, her weakness, and now that Kat had been injured, her emotions shifted further towards rage.

Looking back to Magi, there was only one thing in Regan's eyes, the desire to not just kill, but maim, rip, and tear the girl apart.. slowly.

Suddenly a newcomer approached and with her arrival, Regan's wounds began to knit themselves into undoing. This was hardly of concern to Regan though. As the woman began to speak, Regan turned to her face filled with fury.

"Shut. Up."

Speaking through gritted teeth she then looked back to Magi.

"SO YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME! YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO! FINE! YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY I PRACTICE ON TREES! BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS FOREST DIES TOO FAST! AND YOU THINK I CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO ME? YOU THINK I CARE IF YOU TEAR ME APART! HAHAHA! I COULDN'T CARE LESS, BUT I'LL TELL YOU THIS LITTLE GIRL, IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO I'LL RIP THE EYES OUT OF YOUR HEAD SO YOU CAN FINALLY SEE WHAT A DISGUSTING LITTLE MAGGOT YOU REALLY ARE!"

The blood oozing from her closing wounds flowed out into another sword of hardened blood like the one she held in her left hand. Regan bit down on the blood blades hilt, eyes wild she dug her feet into the ground and unfurled her wings. She knew this wouldn't be enough. She doubted she could even scratch the girl but she had to try. She had to at least try and cut her. Leave some kind of mark on that sickening little face of hers.

Pooling all her might Regan charged forward, a blade and each hand and one in her mouth. It was all she could do. With all her remaining strength pushing her forward, Regan quickly entered striking distance.

As she tried to watch her magic arrows pelt the duo, a certain pest blocked much of her vision.

"Stop! I thought you promised to not hurt people for nothing anymore!?!"

This only made Wendel want to push them harder. To feel more grief and have some fun after all this time running away and lacking direction. What was left to do anyway?! Chibi Magi made a pained look as she continued to swing her tiny arms helplessly. Wendel swiped at her with her free hand in time to see another newcomer. One that gave off a lot of energy Wendel found comforting... still she wasn't like her. Nobody was except those vamp slaves, and... even they.

Edgy loli?"

It really had been a while since someone said something like that to her. It was then that an enraged flurry of blood blades and feathers took her attention back to her original sparring partners. The Dark Magi shot out her hand, it was now covered in a claw-like glove as a dark aura shielded her from the attack. She grimaced as the blades clashed against it threatening to tear her to bits. How badly she wanted to go all out now. The black veins throbbed and her red-eye twisted... but.

Wendel, not Magi, not Wendy, but Wendel had made a decision. Being free of Vermy allowed one thing, freedom. That freedom brought questions. With those questions came... the sad need for restraint. She laughed. It started with a distorted sound but changed as it went on. until it was somewhat resembling a happy sound. It was the best she could do to mimic what she heard others do.

"Yay! You're feeling it right? Protecting and saving friends... with your life? Nothing less.♥"

She pulled back and gave a very Magi Heart esc salute with her fingers. The clawed gauntlet still present. Chibi Magi was holding her stomach but finally seemed to feel better and sighed looking very tired.

"I'm Wendel by the way. You should heal up or else you might die for real though. *Giggle* I mean, unless you want to try that out?♥"

She desummoned Gertrude and acted like nothing even had happened. The presence of the dark mage nearby making her feel rather comfy as she stared at the wild-eyed bird woman. There was a very real desire to continue, but she accomplished her goal at the moment.

There was more than a little relief that spread across Kat's face as someone, anyone, came to help them. The stranger turned back time, Kat's wounds knit, and all that remained was the black stain on her pink kimono to remind her of the damage done. Kat's breathing returned to normal, and she wiped her chin of the blood that had lingered there, her black sleeves showing no real worse for wear afterwards.

When the dark mage stopped her onslaught and played it off like it was nothing more than a training exercise, Kat once again felt herself wanting nothing more than to roll her eyes out of her skull. Someone else showed up to help the newbies and that's all it was, of course. Kat knew she wasn't the brightest bulb, but she knew people, and honestly to her it was just annoying. But, pressing the issue would just end up with more heartache, or worse, death. Best to leave it be.

"That was one heck of a show, miss. Though I really could've done without the holes in my stomach for it. And now I have to buy another weapon."

Kat pulled back her sleeve and unclipped the hidden blade from the back of her wrist, useless as it was now. It joined the broken blade on the ground where it had fallen. Kat was so used to things despawning in games, but here the blade lingered. She tried not to linger on this, before turning her attention back to the crew around her. She bowed lightly to the others, a polite Japanese bow.

"Perhaps we should all start over again. To start I am Kat, and I would like to thank my healer and the bird lady for helping me. And I suppose the girl who shot me for deciding not to kill me."

Kat gave a light smile. Hopefully this wouldn't escalate again if they could all just be polite. Perhaps an ask given the insults and anger being thrown as it was, but Kat would try nonetheless.

"I might be able to help with the blade also... Just have to give me a second to see if I got some scrap metals on me...

Digging around in her pockets some as she got up and headed over to the blade starting up her chronomancy again and placed some arrow heads in the broken spot to infuse them while retracing the time of the weapon until it was back to normal and offering it back to the girl with a half smile. She was not happy that the other woman told her to shut up, or very much trusting the edgy loli to really stay calm or the older woman.

"Name is Kaede, Kaede hoshi, pleasure to meet you Kat. If I'm being honest I don't think this is going to defuse so easily... Do try not to outright kill them Wendel, hate it if someone else got the same death effect I got six years ago ha ha.~"

Kaede tried to lighten the mood with the joke, though from her it sounded more like she was daring the little girl to do it just to see the result of it. It was good she decided to prepare her chronomancy with a 'restore from time of death' level spell but she really did not fee like using it today. Humming though as she turned to the older woman and figured she would also try to defuse this.

"If you still wish to fight someone I'd advise calming down if you plan to trade blows with Wendel there. Last time we crossed paths she enjoyed hurting the people who did not have much fight left in them and I honestly don't see you making it past her defense. But hell if you want to go ham I'll try to assist ya if your ok with sparring with her some more Wendel?

Not exactly how one should defuse a situation, but Kaede in part wanted the blood mage to learn some people you don't let egg you on, much less the type that use dark magic. Shrugging though if the woman did attack Wendel, but if Wendel was not in the mood Kaede would move to take the attack in her stead to keep things from going south. But if they all calmed down Kaede might just offer to go find some tea leaves so they could have a girl's tea party or something corny to make everyone relax.

"I DIDN'T ASK FOR OR NEED YOUR HELP!"

Regan looked at Kaede with gritted teeth.

"IF I NEEDED IT, I WOULD HAVE ASKED!"

Regan looked around at the three women. From the looks of it, the smaller one had been healed as well which put Regan a bit more at ease. Still, fury raged within the woman. All she had wanted to do was come out and train to become stronger. She just wanted to practice using her blades when this... girl, came and bothered her. Then the little one came that apparently didn't need protecting, and now a bleeding heart who wanted to help...

Pathetic... this is all the strength I can muster? These are the types of people I'll be fighting in the future and this is the best I can do. I'M PATHETIC. I THOUGTH I WAS STRONG, BUT I'M NOTHING! NOT YET. I HAVE TO PUSH MYSELF MORE. HONE MY SKILLS EVEN MORE. BECOME EVEN MORE!"

Inside, Regan was screaming at herself, but at the same time she now knew what she needed to do.

Sheathing her swords, Regan looked at each of the three women with eyes like a lioness warning an intruder.

"I'm leaving."

Quickly turning to Magi, Regan roared.

"BUT YOU! THE NEXT TIME I SEE YOU, I'LL WIPE THAT GRIN OFF YOUR FACE, AND I'LL BE DOING IT WITH YOUR OWN HAND AFTER I SEVER IT FROM THAT DIGUSTING LITTLE BODY OF YOURS!"

Having said her piece, Regan unfurled her wings and flew off.

Old lady made her exit and vowed some silly revenge fantasy. Revenge for what... a helping hand? Wendel loved receiving the griefful edge of others. It felt GOOD but... she actually did grow tired of the lack of understanding.

"..."

"..Hmmm."

Chibi Magi's hand went to her chin as she looked at Wendel. Wendel's current emotionless face broke into a dismissive smirk as she waved to the other two remaining females present.

"Yeah, leaving isn't the worst idea. I offered what I needed to and I'm done here."

Why was she still interested in helping anyone when they didn't want it? Then did she exist at all? Without Vermy, and Seigi was she worth nothing? She refused to be just some imposter in another's life. Maybe that alone made having someone want her dead a good thing. Perhaps that was the best way to help...

Fill in the void of the baddie that doesn't exist, but is needed to give others purpose.

Maybe.

Kat suddenly felt very... ignored. The bird lady left, and never even introduced herself. Wendel left and barely acknowledged Kat or what she had said. Kat suddenly felt very small, figuratively, seeing as she was literally very small. She gave a light sigh, before turning back to Kaede, the one person who hadn't just left. Kat was not sure Kaede's intentions, what with her egging on the sparring match between the two, but all Kat knew was she was really not interested in that.

"I was literally just walking by."

Kat explained, after having accepted the fixed blade from Kaede. She clipped it back to her wrist and pressed the switch to slide it back into its sheathe. She was glad Kaede had saved her the trouble of having to track down another one. It was a basic blade, but the mechanism, while not incredibly complicated, was not exactly plentiful either. But that was the whole gimmick, and it had worked for the bird lady and Wendel, it seemed. Pretend to be defenseless, but still, have a weapon. Kat let the flowing sleeves of her kimono fall back over the blade and her hand as she smiled,

"Thank you. You really didn't have to do that, but I appreciate that you did, and the healing. Really. I'm actually completely brand new to this game."

Perhaps not something to admit to someone, but Kat was really none the wiser. Any help she could get in the end, if the woman wanted to kill her, why heal her in the first place, right? She shrugged, before finishing off with,

"Perhaps you'd be interested in helping me learn the ropes? If not, I understand. My girlfriend should be joining me in the game... eventually."

Kaede would frown some as people started to leave one after another, and not even giving proper goodbyes like the edgy children they seemed to be behind those avatars. Sighing before she gave her entire focus to the only one who remained giving a warm-ish smile as she could before listening to what was said. Giving a slight bow as a 'your welcome' gesture before she would look up and buff her cheeks hearing she was already taken only briefly before speaking to hide it.

"So long as you don't have the jealous type of girlfriend for getting help from another woman showing you the ropes.~"

Kaede playfully spoke while adjusting her clothing and posture to be less teasing as to avoid any misunderstand she might have caused with the way she worded things. Last thing she wanted is to be killed by some angry girlfriend again over a misunderstanding or trying to be helpful. Thinking back she had a lot of close calls with that sort of thing, maybe she needed to work on her preference in women as most she took liking to seemed to either be taken, not interested, or a mix of both. The the rare case of having a partner that is Yandere level of crazy. Laughing some to herself as she started to head deeper into the woods.

"What exactly would you like to learn about? Combat, the history of the world, where the best date spots are, this UI-locked in player has had a lot of time to figure these things out.~"

Kaede gave a tense laugh as she kept walking, if the girl decided not to follow that was perfectly fine, if fate decided they needed to cross paths again then they would. If that case was true here though she would very least wave as she left, but if followed she would listen to what the newbie had in mind and try to think of ways to help. passing the torch to the next generation was starting to be a normal thing for her it seemed, maybe one day she will hear tales of them and get to gloat like a grandma about how she trained them.
