AN OPEN DOOR FOR ANY WHO WOULD ENTER...

The MIT has a suite of research divisions that are trusted and well-funded. There were also suites for newer divisions, those were were interested in the act of learning but had yet to build accreditation with the MIT. These were naturally less-maintained, but eyes still kept careful watch on it. The purpose of these rooms was to spark innovation in all who work within them.

A particular testing room was assigned to one single man by the name of Askera Question. He proved himself at least worthy to continue his research in the safe confines of a stone workshop. He had taken a long leave after experiencing a trauma most unpleasant. It seems that his doors were now open to enter once more, for he was once again offering job opportunities to anyone who would take interest.

You will be helping him. With pay, of course.

AT THE TOP OF THE TOWER, THERE IS TESTING TO DO.

TOWER OF TESTS

Welcome to the continuation of this open thread. This is an episodic adventure that anybody and everybody is welcome to partake in. You may post on every cycle of notes, and you may only post for one test and be done if that is all you wish to do. It is up to you to decide how much you want to participate in this thread, and I welcome you while you are here. Think of these logs as creative writing prompts for you to use for roleplay and development.

How this will work:
Askera will be writing a first-person experiment report. It will describe what the experiment was about, the result and some things that happened during the time of the experiment.

Your posts are in third person present time as normal. It happens during the experiment that was detailed during the log.
Think of it as a post that creates a flashback to a time during the experiment, with you as the assistant.

As Askera's assistant, your character will be helping him perform the experiment in any way you see fit. What Askera does to interact your character is vaguely up to you, so long as it remains within the boundaries of the experiment that happened. It is your job to ensure the experiment goes smoothly, and to conveniently leave out any questionable activity from your report to the MIT.

There will additionally be a roll with each cycle. This roll is here to introduce how much chaos was involved with the experiment. A 100 was a peaceful and productive time, if not an outstanding one, while a 1... had complications that Askera conveniently forgot to place in his after-action report.

With your help, we will create the in-game Wikipedia of our dreams. Nobody will be lost in Brishall after reading our works!

Entry 13: Foolish Endeavor

This report was written by freshman researcher Askera Question.

I have recently gone on an adventure out into the many fields of rural Falderen, and these adventures have brought surprising inspiration to me now that I have returned. By my request, several live samples of a particular kind of creature-as well as a reanimated sample of a creature I had slain with the assistance of a wonderful woman by the name of Aroda-I want to observe the behavioral patterns and adaptability of this very genus. As for what kind of creature it is?
The experiment involves the humble [Mimic] family.

The overview of this test involves the placement of various kinds of Mimics in an object-rich environment. It will be the goal of my assistants today to spot out the Mimic among the many normal objects. Thankfully these specimens are either too young to pose a threat to a lab assistant or are strictly obedient to me.

Result of 23. Notable odd events occurred that will be detailed under further pages of this dossier. For you, the assistant, this means that you can be quite very creative when writing the recount.

Results
These are the scenarios in which you, the assistant, have participated. You may react to any result of your choosing-no need to worry over which one or how many.

-Day 1-
Results 1 and 2: The first experiments saw the search for the common Box Mimic, a creature who grows within the cracks of walls or discarded containers within the room. The first test was done with a specimen that had long since adapted to its' shell (a wooden chest), and the second involved an un-shelled organism that was given twenty-four hours under observation to find a suitable hiding spot.

Subject 1 was found to be both obvious and, according to the searching party, 'cliche'. The second was notably more difficult to find, and took several times over the effort to locate by the same searching party. Details of how the un-shelled Box Mimic adapted to its' environment can be found in page 4 of this dossier.

-Day 2-
Result 3: Today's goal was to find two different species, the first of which was the Light Mimic, a similar species that displays bioluminescence. It uses this to adopt alternative disguises, such as chandeliers or glowing patches of algae and fungi. The party was capable of finding the Light Mimic despite how I had left out the details of what kind of mimic the creature was.

Result 4: In addition, the searching party also needed to seek out a Portal Mimic. This species mimics the sight and feelings of an open space, particularly favoring to imitate holes and windows in hopes that something would try to crawl through it. It took the searching party longer than they would like to admit that the room used for this specific experiment was underground, and due to such, the window within the room made no sense.

-Day 3-
Result 5: A reanimated Fool's Wheat-which I assumed to be a species within the family called The Bane of Fools-was the creature that had inspired me to begin these tests after my trip. It was instructed to hide within the room. This was expected to be difficult, as it should have been able to fit within the room given its' apparent mass. However, its' flattenable body led to a very impressive disguise. As a surprise to me, its' creature title changed after it had fully settled down. Perhaps the creature itself is named The Bane of Fools, and the title it has in the UI merely leads credence to how it currently hides.

The searching party did not figure out for a long time where such a large thing could have possibly gone. Details of how the party reacted to the slowly-discovered Fool's Room can be found in page 6 of this dossier, found in the section containing a transcription of the occurring events.

A picture is attached that details the appearance of Fool's Wheat, specimen found during XX/XX/XXXX in Pormont, Brisshal.

Special mention this cycle to @Aroda , who is related to this story.

"Are you serious." Brutus would blink a bit as he stood in the room. "You've got me sitting into a room playing where's waldo for mimics."

"Correct"
Askera's voice would crackle over the intercom. "We are studying how they adapt to new habitats, there are t-"

"Found it."
The giant squatted down and poked the mimic with a finger. The box would tremble a bit at the sheer size of the man and skittered away with a clunk clunk clunk as the box shuffled around.

"Really?"

"It was super obvious."

"On a scale of one to ten how obvious."

"Ten, the wood of the box didn't match the wood of the rest of the furniture in the room, plus observe."
He would chase the baby mimic and scoop it up by the chain. "The resting curvature of his tail mimicked the pattern of chains in Dark Souls." The creature would wriggle and writher, snapping its baby teeth at him before the giant put it down.

"And the other?"

Brutus would squint as he glanced around. Cracking his neck he would pace the room from one to the other two to three times before narrowing his gaze to one section of the room. Finally, after about five minutes he would scoop out the other mimic.

"Found em, he's a tricky lil rascal. I didn't see him by sight, I had to listen for his pulse with my hypersense."

"So there were no visual tells?"

"Close to none, the wood markings match, but the grain is slightly off and the chest it slightly bigger than other boxes of its size."

"I see. Very well then, thank you Brutus."

Aroda was here on a visit, by Askera's own suggestion, to check the place out. She arrived just as Askera was going to be starting these 'tests', and Aroda decided to stick around a while and watch...see what things were like around here. This guy's 'work' was certainly, interesting...? It was at least better than what she imagined originally.

As she goes on watching these tests, she does get...an idea. One fostered in something she'd tried before, concerning her experimentation with her abilities. After a time, she decides to ask Askera, if she'd be able to get access to any magitech parts while she's here. ...And if she can, whether she could give these tests a go, in just a little bit.

So it was that Aroda went off to hastily construct something she only had a bit of an idea of. Some thirty minutes later, she returned with an odd device and went to try some science in the mimic room...

Entry 13, Result 1

This report is written by curious visitor Aroda, who isn't sure what the correct format for these is, but will write one anyways, since it'd only be fair considering the results of that test. Sorry about the parts.

I had an idea for something I wanted to try, thinking it would totally be a great way to find anything hiding that was living. So I went and threw together - tried to throw together - a little device that would send out waves of electricity at different power levels. Sharks sense stuff with electricity and magnets, right? I saw that on a documentary once. Shark week is wild. So I can just try and sense electro...whatever reactions with the electric field I'm creating. Then, if that doesn't work, I can just up the power until it zaps whatever I'm looking for, and that would reveal it!
So that was the idea. It turned out, the shark theory in fact did not work. I can't exactly sense reactions like a shark can, so even if they happened, I couldn't tell, 'cause the intensity was super low. Fortunately, upping the power to make it strong enough to hurt did work! Unfortunately, I upped the power a little too much and the thing I made blew up. And the mimics weren't very happy about getting zapped. So they're not immune to electricity, we learned that much!
And that's all. Sorry about the parts again, but you know how it goes. Science, and such.

Greetings, Aroda-san. To you, who this regards: I happened to do a little bit of pushing in regards to the report you had written. I made sure it reached someone's eye at least, and now I wanted to let you know that it wouldn't be impossible to make a partnership out of it.
The MIT acknowledged that you have ingenuity to spare. At the very least, you might find a side-quest or two out of that.
-With Sincerity, Askera Question-

Entry 14: Bountiful Brewery

This report was written by freshman researcher Askera Question.

As I have enough free time to once more work on my own projects, today I will be experimenting on cataloging the many combinations and techniques that can be observed in Alchemy. As one would understand from how mad scientists of yore always beheld beakers within their chambers, this is naturally a volatile subject.
I will of course first be testing any combinations I make upon our facility's rats. After confirming that the mixture does not actually cause poisoning or death that the UI kept hidden from my eyes, I will then bring the potions onto a holding table for signed assistants to test.

75. A stable enough experiment. Askera can't help but feel as if he had forgotten to write something, though...

-Day 1-
Result 1: The potion was primarily formed from a base composed of Jade Jaguar's remains. I had also added other feline elements into the mixture... The resulting enhancement draught was titled '@Astor 's Tears' by the UI. At the time of writing this, I have yet to understand the significance of the name or connection to our ruler.

Results show that aspects of sensory input are enhanced. Subject can see well in the dark and, according to the UI, takes reduced falling damage. Tests to prove this are detailed on page 2 of this dossier.

Result 2: Potion was created from a base composed of Myconid cap and other portions of the creature's flesh, distilled as I would when creating a healing potion from Tangleweave grass. Resulting drug was titled 'The Eye'.

I came to understand where the UI's name came from when the inebriated subject began to lose composure, speaking of an eye in the room. For all intents, this seems to be a recreational drug.

Result 3: Potions were created from a base of Slimodile extract, which I mixed with various other slime extracts used to create common healing potions. As expected, I found that the resulting potions all had strange effects not in line with a standard Healing Potion's crafting process.

Test 3 involved mixing with slime that had been taken from a monster found in the Traveler's Gate. Resulting transmutive potion drank by the subject caused a result of anti-gravitic properties. Subject was required to swim through the air slowly for several minutes.

Result 4: Slimodile extract was next mixed with that of a crimson sludge found near the southern border of Falderen. Resulting healing potion proved effective only for the purpose of curing blood loss. Subjects whose blood was full began to bleed excess amounts from the nose.

Result 5: Mixture of Slimodile extract was mixed with that of an ambush slime found in the undergrounds of the Hylands. Resulting mixture was titled as a 'love potion' by the UI.

I was initially going to dispose of it, but my initial assistant for Result 6 went and drank it recklessly. Assistant left the premises, saying that there was somewhere they had to go with intense fervor.

I still don't know what they became enamored with. The thought that it could have been me, and that the subject left due to anxiety, is slim. The fervor in which was spoken that there was somewhere they needed to be is a giveaway to this. Thankfully, I know that this potion doesn't last longer than two hours at most.

Afternote: Subject confirmed to be in good health after the events if this experiment. They would not speak to me of the event, but do not seem to bear ill will towards the MIT from this experiment.

Result 6: I have done away with the process of attempting to use Slimodile extract in a process made to create a healing potion. A material such as this was clearly made to blast-fuse for enhancement potions, and this result only proves as much. Subject displays enhanced strength and biting force in exchange for increased appetite.

As my free time is over, this is the end of this section's experiments.

I am making a clarifying statement. In difference to my opinion during the first Towrr of Tests, I will no longer atop anyone from writing prompts related to Entries further back than the present. If any prompt inspires you, I am more than happy to see you write about it. Go ahead.
