"It's not, The only people who talk passionately about Justice are the ones with an agenda."

Sarina struggled to stand and found herself forced to lean upon this jerk. In truth, her job in real life already showed her that. It didn't mean that the word Justice was something to just throw away though. This entire event made her sick outside of the physical damage she had taken.

"...not all agendas are bad..."

She muttered before using all of her strength to pull away. How this guy had gotten up before her after the state she saw him in was jarring but it just went to show, she was far from finished growing stronger.

Then she remembered... the Criminal Witch!

"Okay team, shape up and take a breather, last time we screwed up because we all tried to do everything all at once."

Well, she was energetic. It made the Lion feel her own adrenaline return... even if painful.

"...A robot that claims she isn't a magia but knows the word gamer and uses it naturally, a not-player but uses player words. A disembodied voice calling for a mass uprising. Technoterrorists with different accents that seem more like an allied faction than members of the same force. Those are our clues. That and their apparent need for attention, but need to hide the bombs. This isn't only terorism, it's a false-flag conspiracy. Thats how I'd work the pieces anyway. Have I missed anything? Hmmm~"

"Wild night.... heh...."

The voice of one of the mysterious girls rang out. The hooded one was now holding a piece of one of those frog 'things' over her head.

"I don't know you. And you don't know me. But I stood up in the face of danger to help. Now, weakness would be you choosing not to do the same. You can condemn me as a Magia, you can arrest me, you can hate me. I don't care! I still helped! I still tried, when others might not have. And now you can do the same."

"Wait, you don't know the... "

Face palming, she ran off and made her exit into the night.

As the speech went on. A company of Falderen soldiers finally stepped up from wherever and went to work bringing order to the crowds that watched the fires, heard the words spread across their city, and saw a literal Magia holding a frog's head over them all...

Needless to say, emotions were mixed here.

"I'll give myself up if I have to, to keep this civil. I'm not the culprit, whether you believe me or not. I don't know what is happening or why, but I can't just let these evil people destroy this town and try to call it justice.

If the mob turns against me, you have to make a choice. I'll give myself up to them, but there are probably people dying in that windmill that need help. Other Starcalled, if them being called interlopers is to be believed. But if the mob does the right thing, me and you need to go catch that maniac. It's up to them now..."

The crowd split as the soldiers took formation for a dainty woman adorned in blue roses.

"Make way for the attendant of Lord Vio! Lady Antinora"

"Lord Vio? Isn't he the ..."

"The Viper."

Someone uttered and quickly backed away.

"Terrorists in the Holy Kingdom of our most beloved of Queens? Yet here I see a demon of steel in the form of an innocent girl holding a burnt toad. Such disrespect of reptiles. The toad's vistage is too great for your faux little hands. Metal Monstrosity."

"Lady Antinora, we have found the ones at the windmill. They are alive. Should we detain them?"

A circle of soldiers with the banner of a snake upon their armor had formed around Sarina, Jin, and Glamora. They didn't look terribly compassionate about the wounds they sustained. One look at them and the woman pouted her lips a little and shook her head.

"Astoreans aren't you?"

She raised her hand to silence any responses. She continues to speak gently. Even smiles and looks as if she might offer the trio cookies as her words continue to mean much less generous meanings.

"Astorea has had its sights on making our great kingdom its vassal ever since the death of our King. Aligning with magia and using magitech weaponry against us now? Forgive me... continuing to use them against us? We do not forget. ...and while some of us forgive. The Viper does not."

She tilts her head and lowers her eyelids slightly. One may see the snake tattoo barely peaking out of her frilled collar. The townsfolk mutter amongst each other and the group gets stares and someone tries to throw a stone up at Kat (it doesn't make it).

"Calm yourselves. Yes, your night was disturbed, once again, by westerners. This is the cost we pay for living in an era where we share land with strange, self-resurrecting shapeshifters and a land that simply poofs into existence at what should be our borders. Our kind Queen is lucky to have a sharp bureaucracy."

She makes a simple delicate gesture with a limp wrist and a lifted finger towards the southern exit at the base of Bridia.

"Take your leave. Remember the generosity of Lord Vio. Tonight you do not taste the fangs of the viper. If leaving is difficult for you, (nods her head in understanding), I can arrange for you to be escorted with care befitting your treatment of our lands over the years."

Awaits with a soft smile and a squadron of armored soldiers in waiting...

...not all agendas are bad...

"Of course. My mistake," he relinquished his hand as she peeled herself away from him. With a sigh, Jin gave his most hapless shrug and made no effort to argue with the girl. She was doubtless already weary from the conflict. He knew that he was.

This isn't only terorism, it's a false-flag conspiracy. Thats how I'd work the pieces anyway. Have I missed anything? Hmmm~

Jin's gaze shifted quickly to the diminutive Witch, calculating the probability of her words. The distrust of Falderen toward Astoreans, the abject fear and loathing of Magitech... oh yes. They had chanced upon a hornets nest.

But... was it intentional? That remained to be seen. As they were corralled from the windmill ruins and led toward a more open, more populated area, a woman came into view and she addressed them.

Astoreans aren't you?

Jin watched her quietly, eyes narrow. Oh yes... that outcome would work out perfectly for the bureaucrats, wouldn't it?

Astorea has had its sights on making our great kingdom its vassal ever since the death of our King. Aligning with magia and using magitech weaponry against us now? Forgive me... continuing to use them against us? We do not forget. ...and while some of us forgive. The Viper does not.

To the victor go the spoils, and so it followed that did the defeated found themselves on the wrong side of history. With nothing to show but their presence at the wrong place at the wrong time, this influential party could fabricate whatever truth suited her fancy, and the people would eat it from the palm of her hand.

No, Jin determined, there was no wordplay her that would see them out of this situation favorably.

Calm yourselves. Yes, your night was disturbed, once again, by westerners. This is the cost we pay for living in an era where we share land with strange, self-resurrecting shapeshifters and a land that simply poofs into existence at what should be our borders. Our kind Queen is lucky to have a sharp bureaucracy.

"Indeed, fortuitous that she finds herself surrounded with such magnanimous and adept council," Jin smiled wryly as he regarded the woman out of the corner of his eye.

They were anything but, but to say so was to invite more problems. Simply allowing the woman to feel his fangs was the only small, hollow victory Jin could manage.

Take your leave. Remember the generosity of Lord Vio. Tonight you do not taste the fangs of the viper. If leaving is difficult for you, I can arrange for you to be escorted with care befitting your treatment of our lands over the years.

Lord Vio was not one of the pawns he had dealt with, but certainly, someone who was connected with those parties in one way or another. Discounting this opportunity to simply leave without turning their eyes on him would have been foolish. There was no reason for him to deny Astorean ties, especially when it was to his benefit.

After all, a free pass out of Falderen was exactly what he had been hoping for.

"That won't be necessary my dear," he told her with a smile as he began to make his leave, fingers traipsing through the cool night air as he gave a whimsical wave farewell. "I will gladly see myself out. Gods know, I'd hate for you to accidentally raze Falderen any more than its own custodians already have on my account."

He offered the Viper a wink as he shrugged his way through the booing and jeering crowd, shrugging off rocks and spit as he went.

Bright Kat

With a heavy, shaky sigh, Kat watched as the soldiers stepped forth and brought order to the chaos. Further jeers, insults, and a rock that didn't reach Kat made their way to her, and she was "spared" at the behest of some righteous woman.

Kat put a hand to her chest, and steadied her heartbeat. This woman wasn't worth the time to berate. These people had been through enough tonight. Besides that, Kat was exhausted. She tried to do what was right, but in the end, the wounds were either too fresh, or too deep, to matter. Kat didn't know which. She hadn't even been there for the inciting incident that had caused the wounds in the first place. Yet here she was trying to play civil peacekeeper all the same.

Kat glanced around, her pink haired "friend" having left her. Kat wondered if that was because of her race, or because of the crowd. It didn't matter. What did matter, was that the people who were caught in the blast of the destroyed windmill were brought to bear as the Viper threw her weight around. Honestly, that was the most important thing to Kat. Everyone had survived, as far as she knew.

Walking to the lever, Kat pulled it, and the elevator she stood on made its way down to the crowd and the Viper and her soldiers. As the elevator slowly sank to the lower level, Kat opened her UI and unequipped her hidden daggers. She had said she would keep this civil, and she meant it, even if it meant putting herself at risk. Nobody knew she had the daggers, and nobody needed to know that she had ever been armed. Nobody had seen her cast magic. Nobody knew her capability. As far as anyone knew, she was unarmed, outside of the pink haired woman.

The elevator reached its destination, and Kat walked to the Viper and her soldiers. Kat held out her arms in front of her, fists closed as if she were to be clapped in irons.

”I will take you up on your offer of escort. If you think me such a demon, perhaps you would rather escort me in chains? Show your people how you treat a Metal Monstrosity that has submitted to you and done you no harm. Show them the might of Falderen against one. I'll have you know that I don't expect to make it to my destination, but whose fault will that be?”

Regardless of what would happen between here and Astorea, Kat knew she could outwit, and escape some soldiers, even in chains. She could run faster than they could think with Dynamism. She wouldn't be put in a position where she wouldn't make it. But she wanted to see how they handled her first hand. She wanted to see the depths of their racism when they had already promised a safe escort.

She narrowed her eyes at the Viper and continued to hold out her arms until led away, prepared for the worst trip to Astorea in her life.

I give my humble thanks to Lord Vio's generosity then.

And I better leave it at that before I accidentally say anything that would piss someone off.

It had been a wild night indeed, from telling questionable fortunes to getting roped into an international conspiracy. she'd even gotten blown up and mercifully survived.

Well, time to hit the dusty trail.

And so the witch exited on cue.

Glammy hadn't really decided to what to do next, but she hadn't been kicked out of the Hylands yet and the open air seemed promising.

Maybe she visit there next.
