Well, would ya look at that! Nyancy's back in action four years haven't done me any worse for wear neithuh.

It was Nyancy. After four years the strange little cat girl with the Brooklyn accent had returned on her quest to become the world's number one character mascot! Though to be fair she hadn't really accomplished much accept fishing and sleeping before she was booted from the game. Still, maybe this time would be different? Maybe she'll even participate in some battles? Who knows, it's Nyancy's world and everyone else is just livin' in it.

Now then let's see what we got hea.

Throwing a few punches, Nyancy began to shadowbox across the forest floor. First a straight punch, then a jab, a little upper cut, followed by a few more jabs.

Oh, yea, still got it bebe! Now let's try a little of this action!

Nyancy slowly squatted down and did a little roll landing back on her feet.

That's it, that's it right there, good ol NYANCY ROLL! They'll nevah see it comin', hah! Well, tah be honest though, I nevah really did invent that mashal aht I was trying fa. Well, I've got time to do it now. Gotta throw some punches and kicks, maybe a chop, some kung-fu... ah whateva I got all the time in the woyld to figure it out. Just take it slow like I always do and have some fun while I'm at it, eh?

Nodding to herself in agreement, Nyancy began to look around.

Well then, now just gotta figure outs what to do. Guess I could do some fishin', maybe try and meet some of the locals ah somethin'. Dang look at me, little Ol' Nyancy just livin' her dreams ova hea. Sho is peaceful though. Ah well, let's just get some steps in an see what happens. Adventuah awaits and all dat jazz!

Thus, Nyancy ventured out into the forest ready for whatever or whoever lied in store.

The noises of the forest were interrupted by the splashing sounds of water. Enmity leaned over the pool, water beading on her face and dripping back down her pale into the pool. She had had some recent experiences in this game that really made her feel like she was progressing in her goals. For now though, the forest was peaceful and she had some time to herself. Screw her studies in the real world, this place was much more relaxing.

Her hand reached out, the water below it stirring in response, bubbling up and forming a little fountain in the air. She smiled, a genuine expression of calm happiness. Her other hand reached up to join it, the stream of water splitting and growing larger. Caught up in her own little magical performance she started to add in some lightning to spice it up a little. Unnoticed by her the breeze in the forest was picking up and before she had a chance to stop it the large witch hat on her head took flight being carried up into a nearby tree. "Damn it!" She called out to no one in particular.

Enmity stopped her magic abruptly, hands flying up to cover the little mechanical horns that the hat had been covering. She shook her head, dropping her arms. Not like anyone was around to see them anyway. The magia woman thought to herself, starting to get to her feet.

"Well ain't this a foyst. You got a witch hat and them little horns. Reminds me of a little demon ah sumthin' yous a good guy or a bad one? I'll warn yas, Nyancy has some moves when it comes to ah fight."

Sitting in a tree branch enjoying a fresh fish, was a small Felis girl swinging her feet without a care in the world. From her vantage point, Nyancy had seen the entirety of the hat debacle and had even heard the witch-hatted Magia shout out in frustration.

Being a talkative and rather friendly Felis, Nyancy continued.

If yas are a bad guy, I'd ask ya to let me finish my fish before we get down to it or whateva. If you're not a bad guy then I guess I should intradoose myself. The name's Nyancy, my hobbies ah fishin' and fightin' though it's mostly fishin' if I'm bein' real with yas. One of these days I'm gonna be this hea whole woyld's mascot. Like that mouse with the eahs but even bettah because I'll be real good at fightin' too!

Looking to her left, Nyancy noticed a hat that had blown into a branch she was sitting by. Quickly finishing her fish, the cute Felis grabbed the hat and jumped down out of the tree.

This is yours ain't it? Figure I should give it back. Ya don't strike me as a bad guy so I figyah ya probably fine. Most bad guys don't go around losin' they hats and such. Ah but don't worry, it'll be ah little secret all right. Anyways, you new around hea ah what?

What a weird little cat person. At least it didn't seem like this Nyancy person wanted to kidnap her and sell her for parts. It did seem like the beastfolk lady wanted to talk however. And talk she did, a lot. It almost didn't seem like she even wanted an answer. Being a very shy person in the real world Kaminari hadn't had much interaction with this kind of person. Maybe if she stood very still they would go away, like a T-Rex.

Nope, now they were approaching, and with her hat too. "Thaaanks..." She said nervously, reaching out a hand for her hat. Her blue hair fluttered in the wind as her eyes continued to look the other person up and down. "I don't think anyone is truly good or bad..." She paused thoughtfully, contemplating the philosophy that had led her to that conclusion before continuing. "Yeah, this is only my second time logging in, and I haven't done much past hanging out here. I don't really even know what else there is to do." Her tone got real quiet as she leaned in to whisper to Nyancy. "But while I was here I did hear a rumor about a fish the size of..." She paused seeming to appraise Nyancy's size. "...you in a large pond to the south." She finished, voice hushed and almost reverent as she spoke about the large fish.

Ahhh, I see. So ya also a woman ah culture. And a philosophical one at that, eh? No good ah bad. Trust me, in this woyld they's definitely bad. I remember back in the day foh yeahs ago when that big ol' monstah came and stahted corruptin' everythin'. Those were some rough times. I didn't participate in the fight ah nuthin' I was too busy fishin' but now that I thinks about it, gotta admit I regret it a little. Not that I was evah that strong back in those days. Probably wouldn't have been able tah help much, but it's the thought that counts ya know?

Nyancy scratched her little chin as she though.

"But I guess what ya was gettin' at was people, right? Ain't no truly good ah bad people. I undastand that. It's that thing whea we all got good and bad and it's a mattah of which we choose to act on right? I think ah wizahd said something like that once ah whateva. But all this philosophy is besides the point.

The small Felis and smiled while giving a thumbs up and a knowing pat on the... leg. She wasn't tall enough to treach the blue-haired Magia's back.

Anotha person that like tah fish, who would thunk it eh'? Most people round hea are just lookin' fah theyah next fight ah whateva. It's important to appreciate the little things ya know. There's always anotha fight, but a good fish? That's one in a million.

The little Felis did some stretches and some hops to prep herself. After a moment, she was ready to go.

Well, waddya say? Wanna go see if we can find this legendary fish? I'm up for an adventah anyway, already had my mornin' work out and now ahm rarin' tah go! Theyah's a whole woyld out there to explore, might as well get on it, eh? South, eh'? I'll Lead tha way!

That concerned her a little bit. A big monster corrupting everything? It depended on what exactly Nyancy meant by big. "When you say big monster, how big are we talking? Like minivan size?" She vocalized, a barely perceptible nervous tremor in her voice. It was a video game, and she supposed that the point of a video game was to experience things you couldn't normally. Luckily she hadn't run into any wolves or anything so far but that would be far preferred to some kind of evil corrupting abomination.

"I would expect most people would be out here looking for something more exciting that they cant find in their daily lives." She paused to center her hat on her head, smiling to Nyancy. "I guess we must be the exception, huh? I have no idea how to fish, but I'm not here looking for an adrenaline rush either. I just like this place. It feels safe, and I hope that doesn't change any time soon."

Kaminari found herself opening up a little to her new acquaintance, more than she had planned to. She wasn't used to talking to people, so maybe that was to be expected. "I'd like to learn to fish, and maybe with my beginners luck we can actually pull this off!" With a swish of her robe she moved to follow along behind Nyancy.

Walking ahead of Kaminari, Nyancy kept her eyes and ears peeled for anything that might look or sound like water trickling or gurgling.

How big was tha monstah? Ahh lemme think. Now remembah, I wasn't exactly theyah so I can't say fah certain but from what I heard it was like, the size of ah building, like maybe not a skyscraper ah nuthin' but ya know like a good ten stories is about accurate from what I hea.

Quickly, Nyancy realized that she might be scaring her new companion and turned to face her.

Ah, but don't go worryin' ya sweet little head about it. Everybody banded togetha and took it down so it's gone fah good. But it would be good to remembah that though this woyld is a nice place, it can get a bit hairy sometimes if ya catch my drift. But again nuthin to worry about right now. These woods ah pretty safe and wea just goin' to do a little fishin'

As they continued onward searching for the pond containing the legendary fish, Nyancy continued to do one of her favorite things... talk.

Well, I think people come hea fah lots of reasons. Some people want tah escape, have a chance at a bettah life. Some people don't even know what theyah gettin' into when they show up. From what I hea, you can die in this game though, and if ya do, ya die in the real world. Hence why it's outlawed.

A bug began buzzing around Nyancy's head and she batted at it as she continued.

Rumors I've heard say you got three lives hea then ya stuck and ya can't leave. That didn't happen to me mind ya, I never got intah much trouble, but apparently, it is a thing. I used tah think of this woyld as a game myself. But then there were times when ya hear things and it's too real. Now, I don't think it's a game so much as a woyld unto itself. Though that don't mean it's evil ah nothin', it's got good and bad just like tha otha woyld. I think what's different hea is ya got an opportunity to staht fresh and be whoever ya want. You can make friends hea, get mayrried, have a whole nutha life. But that's just it ain't it. It's a life, and life can be lost, ah wasted even.

This little speech was a bit deeper than Nyancy typically went when it came to conversations, but speaking to Kaminari elicited a sort of pensiveness from the small Felis.

Me personally, I just like it hea, ya know? I ain't tryin' to be no hero or whateva, but it's nice makin' friends and all that.

Stopping for a moment, Nyancy looked up at the sky as if trying to get her bearings straight and make sure they were headed in the right direction.

Well anyway, this is all neithah here nor there. All we's gotta do is figure out what we want tah do, and do it. Pretty easy, right? Like right now, I'm in tha mood fah some fishin' and you seem to be in the same padicament. Tha good news is, I'd be happy to teach ya tah fish. Always good tah have a fishin' buddy. Makes tha fishin' all the sweetah. Ah, but all this talk is gettin' my tummy rumblin' for some chow!

Suddenly, Nyancy's ears perked.

Lookah thea! You seein' what I'm seein! Looks like a pond and ah deep one at that! Ya think this is tha place?

TEN STORIES?

Kaminari hadn't been too fazed by the stories of wolves and bears in these woods because she was kind of awesome at magic. Or so she had felt. Granted her only comparison to other magic users came from real life where magic didn't exist. Or if it did she had never run into anyone that could use it. Creating a few lightning bolts and blobs of water didn't really make her feel as safe anymore as it had before.

Still, she much preferred this kind of legitimate fear to the totally irrational social anxiety fear she had to deal with in real life. She felt as though she could probably at least face down a giant ten story boss even knowing she would die. At least she could understand and see an end to that fight. Victory was possible. She supposed intangible things like social situations were harder to wrap her head around which was probably why it seemed like this insurmountable infinitely sized dragon just waiting to swallow her.

"I heard something similar. I don't plan on dying even once though." The magia woman rubbed the back of her neck. "I guess most probably don't. But I'm different..."

"Y'know, I bet most people say that too."

A wry smile formed on her face. It wasn't like anyone was waiting for her outside of the game anyway, if she got stuck here it couldn't be any worse than what she'd experienced in her real life. "Finding what you want to do can be a real pain. Maybe that's just caused by thinking too far ahead. If you live in the present maybe its easier."

Her eye flicked forward as Nyancy mentioned a deep pool. No way this wasn't it. It barely qualified as a pool, and it was very obviously extremely deep, the light blue of the shallows quickly transitioning to navy blue and then black as you approached the center. The body of water was surrounded by a semicircle of small rocks with the side closest to them sporting a convenient fallen tree near the edge. It would be the perfect place to sit and Kaminari was more than a little sure that this was intentionally designed this way. If it wasn't it was one massive coincidence. Or maybe someone had punched that tree down there on purpose.

A secret giant fish located in a pool deep in the woods? A convenient spot to sit at that very pool. Was this some sort of secret fisherman targeted mini quest?

Having finally reached the pool, Nyancy gave a big stretch.

Well that's good ta hea. You should never plan on dyin' especially in this world. Though yea, most people that end up dyin' don't really plan on it. A lot gettem selves killed due tah trayin' tah save someone ah somethin' which is noble I guess. Hard tah know what ta do in that situation though ya know? Anyways, this was ah nice little walk wasn't it?

Nyancy gave Kaminari a little thumbs up then started looking around.

Alright, this has ta be tha spot. Now, like I said, I'm gonna teach ya all ya need to know about fishin'. So tha first thing wea gonna need is some fishin' poles. Now, as ya can probably tell, I don't carry much on me at any given moment specially not any fishin' poles. That means wea gonna have ta make some. Luckily wea in a fahrest and theyahs plenty ah sticks which is all we really need.

Nyancy picked up a stick off the ground and began to give it bend tests and checking its length.

So when ya lookin' fah a stick. Ya want tah make sure it's the right size. Something comfortable tah hold but with enough leverage so yah can drag the fishy outta the watah. Ya don't want to the stick tah be too brittle neither, else it'll just break when ya tug on it. Look fah something that has a bit a give. I'll start lookin' this way and you start lookin that. Best to find ya own stick that way ya get used to it. Besides, huntin' stick is half tha fun!

Smiling, Nyancy went along the edge of the water looking for a stick. Suddenly she called back to Kaminari.

Oh, but don't worry about tha line and tha hook yet. I got some ah those. Always keep 'em with me just in case I feel like fishin' ah whateva ya know?

Kaminari glanced around the ground. She was somehow a little more than surprised that they had to find actual sticks to build rods with. Her mind spun, trying to come up with some 'better' idea. That seemed like a lot of work. There were plenty of sticks on the ground around them but none that seemed straight enough or the right thickness. Not that she would have known what kind of stick to look for in the first place.

Still, she didn't want to ruin the fun. That was, searching through the dirt on the ground for a perfect stick in order to fish for a fish that was probably made up. The absurdity of the situation dawned on her and she stifled a laugh. This was a video game after all. She was following an extremely short cat woman around looking for sticks to build a fishing rod in order to catch a legendary fish that honestly wasn't all that legendary at about the same size as Nyancy. All the while getting advice that she would expect from a wise old man sailor.

The woman raised a hand in the air, her arm crackling loudly and spitting sparks all over the place. "I mean, we could always just electrocute the pool and see if that works. Or I can try to pull the fish out using the water?" Those seemed like fabulous ideas to her, and she was certain she could summon enough voltage to fry anything in that water. Then again...

"Would that defeat the point of fishing in the first place?"

I mean, not gonna lie, electrifyin' the whole pond ain't very sportin'. Ya see, fishin's like life. You want tah leave some fah the next guy else theyah won't be none left, if ya catch my drift. Ya shouldn't take more than yah gonna use, I guess is what I'm trying tah say.

The little Felis scratched her chin.

That bein' said. If ya want to try and pull a fish outta tha watah using ya watah magic an what have ya, that's fayah and squayah. Just be shuah to pull 'em out one at ah time ah whateva. Think of it like excising control and prahcision instead ah pullin' all tha watah outta the pond, yah get me?

Continuing to look around and test sticks, Nyancy continued.

Now me personally, magic ain't my fortay. Not sayin' I got anythin' against it, in fact, I figuyah I might learn some down the line when it suits me, but right now I'm more of ah physical type, so even if I wanted tah, I ain't got no magic to use tah fish. Suits me fine though, I like it the ol' fashioned way. I guess seein' as how everythin' about that body ah yas is new-fashioned, weah opposites in that regard.

Nyancy chuckled at the last part as though it were a little joke. As she continued skirting along the pond, the small Felis finally came across a promising stick.

Well whadda we got hea?!

Testing the stick's plyability and length for a few moments, Nyancy looked as she was satisfied with her find.

Now we're talkin' this hea is a legend catchin' stick. Just enough bend to pull but this baby ain't breakin' neitha.

Reaching into her pocket, Nyancy produced some string and a little metal hook. Tying the string around the stick securely, she then tied the hook to the string making a little fishing pole. Having finished her work, Nyancy walked back toward Kaminari to show her, her work.

Now look at this beaut, all rarin' tah go. So what ya want tah do? Want to try with ah stick ah with ya watah bendin' magic ah whateva? Eitha way's fine with me. Just don't go shockin' tha pond into ahblivion. Ain't no honah in that type ah fishin'.

Kaminari wasn't trying to be rude, but she figured whatever fish she might happen to electrocute out of that water if she so chose would go to use. Especially seeing how Nyancy had finished off that fish from earlier. Still, her companion was right, there wasn't any honor in just zapping the entire pond. The water idea wasn't much better, she couldn't sense stuff in the water, at least not at that point, she could just manipulate it. And her idea for that had been to try to drain the entire pool which just ran into the same issue as the lightning except even worse because it would leave a giant mess.

"Alright, you've talked me into it." She said smiling and wandering off to continue searching for her own 'legend catchin' stick'. She went the opposite way as Nyancy, keeping an eye out for any kind of stick that might do the job. Either her luck wasn't so great or Nyancy was just way better at this because the only stick she could find that seemed usable in her eyes was about 4 inches in diameter. Still, it did definitely flex. Kind of.

She snapped off the extra branches and made her way back to Nyancy who had just about finished tying her line onto the stick she had found. It looked like a much more respectable piece of equipment than the branch that Kaminari had selected. "Here we go I guess. I'll follow your lead."

She looked out over the shimmering blue pool, taking note of the myriad of shadows flitting under the surface. Somewhere in there was a fish bigger than all the others, and she was certain they were going to catch it.

Now that's a stick! Yah evah heard about how how a wand chooses a wizahd? Well a fishin' stick chooses its fishaperson. This stick will treat ya well, that much I can promise yah.

Taking the stick from Kaminari, Nyancy fixed it up in the same way she did her own. First she took the line and tied it securely to the stick then attached a hook to the line. After she tested it to make sure it was secure, she handed it back to Kaminiari.

Thea we go, yah all set. Now then, bafore we bagin let's talk about tactics. Ya see, fishin' isn't just puttin a hook in watah and waiting. Think of it like trainin' right. Is it relaxin' sit out here, ah course it is, look at ah suroundin's wea basically in paradise, but that don't mean ya can just slack off.

The small Felis scratched her chin as she looked forward the words to explain fishing.

Fishin' is like meditatin' ya focus on the weight of the line, the movement of the waves, and wait fah the tug of the fish. It's about timin' and strikin' at juuuuust the right moment. Not to early, not to late. That's how ya catch tha big ones. It's just like in a battle. Yah gotta wait fah just the right moment to strike, lookin fah ya opening an take it.

Nodding, Nyancy continued.

Now that don't mean we can't have some fun neitha. I like to put my toesies in the watah while I do this. Not sure if yah should do the same on account of all tha electricity and what not, but I'll let ya be the judge of that. Anyhow, while wea fishin' maybe think a bit about the day and just relax, but while ya relaxin' yah also ready and waitin'. Of course we can also talk a bit if yah in the mood for conversation, just cant be too loud as it'll scare tha fish.

Nyancy chuckled a bit.

I'm probably makin' this sound a lot hadah than it is. But you'll know what I mean when we get stahted. Ya ready? Let's get to it!

Finding a nice comfortable rock, Nyancy sat down put her little toes in the water. She beckoned Kaminari to a spot near her.

On the practical side, what ya gonna want to do is get the hook in tah the watah. The middle of the pond looks tha deepest ova hea so wea gonna aim for that area.

Taking her pole, Nyancy side casted. Her line went out beautifully and landed just on the outskirts of the center of the pond.

Just like that, nuthin' to it. Now you give it a shot.

Kaminar wasn't entirely sure whether or not Nyancy was being facetious about her choice if stick, but either was she thought it was funny. The branch was definitely not what most would consider good for fishing, but it would have to do. Maybe looks weren't everything when it came to fishing rods.

"Think of it like training?" She had never done any kind of training outside of studying, so it seemed like this would be a first for her in more ways than one. Despite her bookish nature in the real world she wasn't particularly good at paying attention or staying at the ready. As she listened to Nyancy's instructions she wiggled her feet, shoes sliding off to plop onto the ground next to them.

"It'll be fine, Im not powered by electricity. This tech here is too ancient for that." She patted herself on the shoulder to make it clear she was speaking about herself. She dipped her toes into the cool blue waters of the shallows, sighing quietly at how good it felt.

It was her turn to cast, an action that would likely be made much more difficult due to the weight and strange shape of her chosen implement. The Magia would lift the branch up as best she could and prepare to cast. Her arms trembled a little as she let her arms go forward, the tip of the branch making a whooshing noise as it sliced through the air. The hook trailed along behind flying majestically as though it had been made for this purpose. With a beautiful plop it landed home, right in the shallow water in front of them.

Hmmm. "I think it might be broken."

Not powahd by electricity? Ya new types ah quite the mystery ain't ya? I don't remembah meetin' any of yah kind before everythin' happened. Kinda makes me wondah how you move and all that? Ah ya ah robot or ah person? Maybe a bit ah both I'm guessin', still whateva ya are, ya good people.

Nyancy smiled and gave a thumbs up, then waited for the Magia to cast her line. Unfortunately, as Kaminari cast, it didn't go as far as either of them would have hoped.

Broken, nah, just takes some practice. Did ya think ya was gonna get a purrrfect cast at the fahst go? Well, tah be honest that woulda been quite the site, but nah, ya good. Hea, watch me again.

Nyancy pulled her line back, then began to show Kaminari the proper technique.

Now ya see, it's all in tha wrist. Befoah you were using too much ahm. Try not to use ya strength to fahce it, but give it just enough powah to get it whea ya want. Let the wrist guide it. Hea watch.

Showing Kaminari, again, the small Felis casted her line with precision getting it to right out the outskirts of the middle of the pond.

Don't worry if it takes ya a few times. Like a lotta things in life, fishin' ain't somethin' ya born with, it's somethin ya learn along the way. Just keep at it an don't let it frustrate ya ah nuthin'.

"Magic and machine and I don't know where the soul came from but I can tell you for sure that it's here." Kaminari responded to Nyancy's musing about her race. "Other than that who knows. Maybe we'll find out as we spend more time in this world." There was a moments pause as she started to pull the line back in. It didn't take long as she hadn't managed to get barely any distance on her first cast.

It occurred to her as her fingers gripped onto the rough bark that she could just push the hook to where she wanted using the waters currents. Somehow that felt cheap though and she didn't bother to bring it up. She was going to do this the traditional way without using magic, that was the point of Nyancy teaching her. Maybe she could even use this in the real world to catch some fish, although she couldn't picture herself fishing with anyone else.

"Do you think you can cook a fish using lightning? Would it burn it to a crisp, or maybe not heat up anything except the outer layer?" She mused, wondering if Nyancy had any kind of experience with this particular school of thought. She swung her rod in the air, the whooshing noise making her hopeful, but once again her cast barely went anywhere. She had even tried to focus on flicking her wrists this time. "I'm used to messing stuff up. You know what they say, you have to fail before you can succeed."

She wiggled her toes gently in the water, tiny ripples spreading out in the water. The refraction of the light through the water made the movement seem strangely alien to her. She started to pull the line back in to try again, leaning back slightly to just breath in the smell of the forest.

Ya know, I've nevah tried to cook a fish with lightnin' maybe it would woahk?

Nyancy pondered Kaminaris question a bit.

Theoretically, it should, right? I think tha only thing that would make it hard would be be cookin' it evenly. Course, I'm not cook myself. I just knew the basics. I'm sure yah could use the lightning to maybe burn some wood and make a fiyah though? Either way, maybe it can be sumthin' ya test when ya catch ya fish.

After a few moments, the Magia would mention that she was used to messing stuff up, which made Nyancy frown though her follow-up statement put the small Felis at ease again.

Yep ya absolutely right. Messin' things up is great as long as ya learn from the mess up. Ya know what they say, failyah is the best teacha and it's true. Nothin' beats ovacomin' a shortcomin'. Just takes a bit ah elbow greese and some persahverence. Good on you for knowin that. Takes some people they whole lives tah learn that lesson, and it's an important one in this woyld.

Stretching her back a little and adjusting herself to get continue, Nyancy decided she would prod a bit into Kaminari's future plans.

So, what ah ya plans aftah our little fishin trip? Yah gonna head tah Honeyhome and try and become ah hero ah somthin? Any big playns?

"Huh..." For some reason the simple solution to cooking a fish, lighting an actual fire with sparks, hadn't occurred to her. She supposed that a lot of the time the answers in life were so ridiculously simple that people just glossed over them for more complicated solutions.

"I learned a lot of lessons very early in life the hard way." She responded, not elaborating further, instead choosing to gaze out at the water instead of looking over at Nyancy. "Sometimes I wonder who I would be without all that, but I can't bring myself to wish it never happened. Because I don't think I would be me without those experiences."

She stopped talking, seeming less lost in thought and more just serene, as though she had come to terms with that line of thinking a long time ago. She leaned back before licking her rod forward, only now understanding as she did it that it was much more about moving the tip of the rod than forcing the entire thing forward. It was a smooth sort of flicking motion, in the wrists, like Nyancy had described earlier. Her hook sank into the deeper part of the lake with a loud plop. She sort of understood now, but also doubted she could pull it off again without a few attempts. That one had been mostly luck.

"I'm not here for all that stuff. I think the 'big' stuff tends to matter much less than most people think. I feel this is a place..." She paused, trying to figure out how to phrase what she meant.

"I feel its a place where I can get over my plateau's and get even closer to the person I want to be."

Nyancy nodded in agreement to what the Magia woman was saying.

In that case wea similar. I agree that this is definitely ah place whea ya can become tha person ya want to be, an guess what?

Nyancy looked at Kaminari and smiled.

I don't think I've become tha person I wanna be neitha. Cute little Nyancy definitely has some wahk tah do. Foah yeahs ago I did nuthin' but fish and sleep. When somethin' bothasome came along I bolted, couldn't be bothad tah do nuthin' but what I wanted. I won't lie, it was nice but people were out thea puttin' theyah lives on tha line and theyah I was just soakin in the sun. Lookin' back on it now, doesn't seem right. So I think now that I'm back, I wanna be someone that othas can look up tah.

Nyancy laughed.

I don't mean no bleedin' hart hero ah nuthin'...

Stopping for a second, Nyancy scratched her head and then chuckled.

Ah, maybe I do kinda wanna be ah hero. I always wanted tah be the woyld's mascot but maybe by bein' it's hero, I can be both ya know. Well, it's somethin' tah think about anyhow.

Suddenly, Nyancy felt a tug on her string.

Uh oh, this it? This the legendary fish we been searchin' fah?

Waiting for the perfect moment, Nyancy pulled back on her fishing pole, hooking the fish.

Got it! Now just gotta bring 'er in!

Slowly but surely, Nyancy fought the fish and eventually got it to shore. Unfortunately, It wasn't a legendary fish the size of Nyancy, but still, it was a nice catch.

Well, that's a bummah, though we had hooked a legend. Still, not ah bad catch. Ya wanna try cookin it with ya magics?

Nyancy held the fish out towards Kaminari.

Kaminari was not sure how one became the mascot of a world... In a normal video game you would have to talk to the devs, do auditions, the players would have to like you a lot... But as far as she knew no one knew who the devs of this game were. To her it seemed like Nyancy's goal wasn't one that she was likely to succeed at. Of course, she wouldn't tell her that. Goals were important and who knew what would happen in the future. Plus, it wasn't like she knew what being the mascot of this world even entailed anyway.

"I don't feel constrained by everyone's expectations of me here. I can be who I want to be and hopefully that will bleed over into the me that exists in the real world." She finished her thought.

"I almost feel the same. I don't want to be a hero, but maybe it will happen naturally as I continue on here. It's not the end goal per se, but it could easily be one of the many branching paths in our journey to reach our goals."

Kaminari watched with baited breath as she saw Nyancy's fishing pole tense under the pressure. Certainly, with the effort she was putting into catching it, this was the legendary fish? But no, it turned out to just be a normal one. If it took that kind of effort to catch a small fish, if they ever did hook the big one she was absolutely going to be using her magic to help reel it in.

The Magia woman propped her rod against the ground, coaxing at the water from the shallows with her free hand. It slowly drew out towards her, wrapping around the bottom of her rod and up to about halfway. She breathed out, air condensing in front of her face in a mist as the water construct quickly froze solid, temporarily anchoring her rod in place.

"It's probably best if we do your starting a fire idea." She explained, starting to pick up small sticks nearby and clearing a small circular area on the ground.
