Everyone loves tropes. Who doesn't like putting characters and stories into increasingly granular boxes that strip away complexity and inspire fears that everything you made has been done before-

What? No? Okay anyway

For those who don't know, TV Tropes is a pop-culture wiki with a focus on dissecting media into "tropes", which are reoccurring themes and concepts that can be identified in basically every damn story made.

Anyway, lets all make tropes about our characters and various scenarios/plots on the forum! Maybe if we get enough we can make our own real page on the wiki
  • Assign tropes in good faith, especially when other people's characters are involved. Some tropes are highly subjective or controversial.
  • The same goes for MSQ or Narrator events. This isn't meant to be the Secret Alternate Feedback Zone.
  • Don't assign tropes to real people, unless those real people are yourself or you have explicit permission.
Have fun. Trope responsibly.

I'll start with a few for my own character

@Lune
BFS: Her usual weapon of choice is a big cleaver/greatsword.
Body Armor as Hit Points: Despite being listed as a Heavy Armor user, Lune doesn't even wear any kind of armor outside of her normal adventuring garb. Her big HP caused by her tanky nature as a Metamorph user is essentially what counts as the armor.
Kaleidoscope Hair: She often changes her appearance to maintain discretion, and this resulted in her appearing with a different hair color every other month. OOC-wise @Warwolfer just wants to change her FC for some reason.
Super Mode: Her skin hardens and turns metallic, and she might or might not gain spikes and wings.
Weaksauce Weakness: Imagine being weak to steel, that's as lame as being weak to water. In all seriousness, being in the vicinity of steel caused many sorts of discomfort to her. If you're unlucky, however, it'll just make her angry.

General Terrasphere Tropes
  • 20 Minutes into the Future: Terrasphere takes in the 2030s, where full-immersion VR has become commonplace.
  • Assimilation Plot: Szofrit's plan to transform people into Magia is this.
  • Hive Queen: Szofrit was this to Magia in general, and the Dragonship Magia in particular. She was even able to assert control over player Magia.
  • Interface Screw:
    • A key trait of Dissonance - their mere presence causes a player's UI to glitch, and in severe instances it renders the UI completely unusable.
    • A group of players had their interface disabled by unknown magic, trapping them in the game for several days.
  • Magitek: Season 4 introduced Magitech to Terrasphere, with both the Magitech skill and the Magia race becoming available for players.
  • Schizo Tech: Invoked. Players have introduced modern technology and concepts to the otherwise medieval-fantasy Arcia.
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: After a player dies enough times in game, the psychological aspects of their Death Afflictions will begin to affect them real life.
  • The Most Dangerous Video Game: Terrasphere is a game where players experience real pain, can inflict lasting psychological effects, and at its most extreme will kill you in real life.
  • The Virus: Many of the hazards of Arcia are this.
    • Zalrisis turns living creatures into crystalline monsters.
    • Dissonance can corrupt others into more Dissonance.
  • Trapped in Another World: The fate of the UI-Locked.

oh boy oh boy i sure love informal character studies

@Ludmilla Orphys / Brie Somers-Yang
  • Big Eater/Extreme Omnivore: Among Ludmilla's defining qualities is her ravenous craving for all kinds of 'food', up to and including definitively inedible things like literal magical energy.
  • Biomanipulation: Ludmilla's primary skillset, the ability to twist and Corrupt the physiology of living beings.
  • Body Horror: This should not bear further explanation.
  • Bull Seeing Red: The effect of her Death Affliction. Causes her to become agitated when seeing either red or blue.
  • Cast From Hit Points: Ludmilla's skills are usually empowered by her sacrificing her biomass or twisting her body to create weaponry or minions, causing damage in the process.
  • Cute and Psycho: Ludmilla makes a conscious effort to appear adorable and endearing, masking her true nature, but she isn't shy about revealing it for her own benefit or even amusement.
  • Enfant Terrible: Anyone not aware of Ludmilla's status as a Faerin and assumes she's a child is in for the unpleasant surprise of their lives.
  • Eldritch Abomination: 'Ludmilla is a normal Traveler, just like you and me.'
  • Enemy Within: Brie's desire for narrative verisimilitude is admirable. The problem is, dying in Terrasphere has opened their mind via its Death Affliction spillover, and Ludmilla wants in.
  • Healing Factor: Ludmilla is a Heavy Armor user, but appears in combat with very minimal protective gear. Her extreme regenerative ability is, narratively speaking, what gives her that extreme durability.
  • Hive Queen: How Ludmilla's Corrupted Beast Arts works. All her 'summons' are extensions of her own body and mind, functioning like a superorganism.
  • Humans Are Insects: Ludmilla's default attitude. To her, all humans (and humanoids in general) weaker than her are ultimately her prey, while any stronger than her are treated as predators.
  • Fantastic Dietary Requirement: Due to her Original Sin trait, Ludmilla will literally die if she doesn't regularly consume magical flesh.
  • Flesh Golem: One of Ludmilla's trademark abilities. Don't inquire further.
  • Horror Hunger/Villainous Glutton: Ludmilla doesn't care where her sustenance comes from, and is more than implied to not be above murdering humanoid NPCs in order to satisfy her appetite.
  • Mad Artist: Brie is beginning to edge in on this territory as Ludmilla becomes more prominent in their psyche.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: While she does happen to be on the larger side for a Faerin, it's fairly obvious that Ludmilla is disproportionately strong for her size, even for her kind.
  • Sanity Slippage: Clearly, the more time they spend as Ludmilla, the worse Brie's mental state becomes.
  • Star Power: Of the Lovecraftian variant, including lethal manipulation of gravity.
  • Turns Red: When her vital functions are severely damaged, Ludmilla's very physiology alters itself in order to survive, buying time for her to regenerate to a stable state.
