Maybe I'm a Kitten

The sound of pumps hitting the pavement echoed as a young woman made her way towards the bus stop. On her shoulder was her purse and in her hands was a Surfway sub with all the fixings. Of course, it had the limited time Pepper X sauce ordered with stomach ending goodness!

"Mmmmm yeah that's it. Hot stuff coming my way."

Sarina Fair took another bite of lava. She was going to be late for the bus but she was too hungry and in spicy food ecstasy to focus.

It had been a long day. D.C. wasn't the safest place at night, she, as a dispatcher knew this. It was fine though! She finally reached the empty bus stop. A street light over her and the sounds of music from the nightclub nearby.

With one more bite she adjusted herself so she could reach for her phone to see if she missed the last run.

The blonde stopped as she saw some headlights coming. Was it?

No.

A black car, not the bus.

Sarina went back to her bag.

"So much for that. Alright let's see... I didn't lose my phone did I? *munch*"

The car slowed down.
The first darkened window passed.
A door opened.

Half a Surfway Sub with Pepper X sauce remained on the sidewalk...

The Viper's Den

"Yes and through those fangs. The Aristrocrata will beat Astorea to the west."

"Vio, don't overestimate yourself. You may have earned nobility because of Antinora's desperation, but you cross the wrong person. you will see your venom has little potency hahaha."

The sneering man left the office. A room of lavish tapestry. Pillars of stone with coiled porcelain snakes around each glaring down at the central point.

"Lord Viper."

A female voice came as Lady Antinora approached with a wine glass for the remaining bespectacled man.

"It's nothing special. No different here than there. Inept bureaucracy by those with no merit. I know back alley dealers more capable than these hacks. They create rules while those of merit must slither underfoot."

"The Viper's way."

The azure eyed young woman looked back at a box that shuffled as if something was trapped inside. It was quite small so perhaps a animal?

"The seeds seem more difficult to control than they had said. I don't trust it. I'd rather not have something like this in the manor but I trust you, my Lord."

She smiled at the man gently.

"Trust. In a viper? Daring noble daughter. Much like your father to defy the Starcalled for his King. Trust that my connections across Arcia are reliable. There are those even I follow the words of. Serve me to restore the honor lost upon your father's accused treason, and you will reap the spoils."

Antinora nodded as she sipped her glass before continuing. She had set herself on this path the day she gave her sister to them and her father died for his loyalties to an ignorant King in a changing world.

A short pause as if she had to process what she her words before saying them out loud.

"The effects have already begun in Ripplethorpe where the people had been detained and the entire location quarantined by D.E.S.. It is too late to contain it now. I have already noticed a lack of self control among my fellow dames. Meanwhile some are calling for revolution in Falderen after the act of terror. The threats are becoming less tangible to the commoners. Therein' lies opportunity my Lord?"

"Yes, You are a sharp one my Culober. A requirement in the world of alternative enterprise."

"...the festival the Viper will bite? Mayhap the ball?"

Two gloved fingers rose and pushed upon glasses.

"With the God Spore matter resolved for them, I can chase a more personal objective. My rise in this isekai play. Soon, I get to meet my Juliet that I've heard so much about. I must bring my best suit."

"O-Only the finest tailor for your needs..."

e9Bhcv4.png
Winter.

The fields were thick with snow as a slender girl wrapped in heavy garments made her way across the land. Each step leaving a footstep behind her, which no doubt would be covered with pure white in little time.

Pure white.

A color her mistress despised more than any other. Only permitting it in her presence so that it might be drenched in red.

A mistress chosen not by force, but by choice.

Annette adjusted her scarf to cover her mouth, regardless of the demon within, she was still fragile on her own. Fragility in all forms was what drew the Crimson Noble.

When there was no one... she was there. Regardless of others opinions, or the scourge that Vermillion would spread with he deep obsessions. Annette would stay loyal. Even if these days, it felt like she had a choice not to be...

What had changed?

It grew colder as the unseen sun began to set. She would need shelter soon. Trembling, now from both the cold and her own natural tendency.

A log cabin caught her eye. Perhaps she could...

She made her way to the cabin, trudging up a hill and using her keen eyesight and the smoke rising as a guide in the thickening blizzard. Upon arrival she would stop. A reluctance came over her. The usual crippling shyness that gripped her since she was a child.

Nervously she forced herself to knock.

Not loud enough?

Again...

Perhaps she should just break in. Her mistress would be quite upset that she was not willing to do so. It was never her though... never Annette that gave the Crimson Noble that sort of pleasure.

Finally the door opened!

A young man wearing clothing not familiar to Annette and boots that were well traveled stood looking at her in amazement.

"It's a blizzard going on right now! What the heck are you doing out there? Come in."

Annette nodded and was happy to not have to say anything.

Quickly the man wrapped his arm around her and brought her to a nearby chair.

"You're trembling like crazy. Let me get my coat, here."

"I...always shake it's not a-a-a problem really. I am c-c-c-old though."

She found a coat thrown over her, she already had a scarf and wasn't going to die from...

"Let me make you some cocoa. "

"T-T-Thank you."

Her eyes never left him as he went over to a makeshift stove and tossed a few logs underneath.

No magic? No sudden changes...

It had been awhile since Annette had seen how the world beyond the manor functioned. Never did Vermillion send her out. After all, out of all of her closest, the maid was... the least controllable on a bad day. Since she held no rose and was bound only by her servant's vow.

Vile to the world, yet a mistress that Annette felt safe to serve.

"D-Do you want my name?"

She asked the man as she began to warm up quickly even without the cocoa. She was not the simple traveler this man likely expected after all.

"...Oh.. right. Yeah sure."

That was strange way to put it? Well Annette didn't think much on it. Strange people were her normal.

"Annette."

"No last name? Oh it's fine. I just thought there'd be one. But you don't have to share. I don't use a last name either."

He brought her a mug, which she took with a shaking arm, and then just stood and stared out of the frosty window. It was still snowing hard.

"I haven't used a family n-n-name in a long time. I-I would rather not."

Annette took a sip and grew quiet. She thought of what brought her to do this. To leave the manor and travel alone when the punishment would be fierce. Perhaps it was the lack of said punishments likeliness that brought her to this to begin with.

"So, Annette. My name's Aiden by the way. It's a good thing you found this place. I built this as a rest stop when I'm in the area. I didn't expect a visitor this fast. Maybe I can make this an inn!"

Annette didn't laugh.

Aiden sat down and pulled out a map examining it as he rested a hand on a shovel leaning against the chair. One boot on the table in front. just letting such dirt to fall upon the eating area This person wasn't very tidy to the maid.

"..."

"Well it'll be a while before this storm blows over. I'm a traveling fella that lives alone, so I hope you're ok with that."

"I-I'm alright w-with that."

I worry more that you won't survive my stay.

"Don't worry about it."

Annette's eyes widened. No... must have been her imagination.

Grim Night

A pot bellied man heads towards his office. A drop of sweat upon his brow. The man was tense. He had no reason to be feeling this way tonight. It was actually a time to be happy., or at least satisfied. His daughter was coming to visit tomorrow.

He was a senator, but not quite the truly rich one in the family. his wife, whom he divorced only left her wealth to everyone but he. He was someone who put rules into law. She was one who could pay for it.

He entered his office. It was a home office that had a cozy atmosphere. He didn't see his dogs around. He had two dogs. Both were good guard dogs. Usually if not outside they were hanging around his office. Once one slept on his desk!

Walking through the room, he spoke to Nexia, the AI assistant.

'Open channel 4."

He sat and took out a box of donuts from under the desk. No matter how bad the habit, he had to have just one a night....

"Nexia I said open channel 4."

"It is open."

The voice was that of his wife. She would hate him for doing it but that's his preference.

"Damnit, where is that idiot? Where are my dogs?"

He took a bite and booted his pc.

Lightning..

Darkness.

With a huff, the man put down his sugary guilty pleasure and saw that everything was out. Luckily he had a b-

He heard a sound and got up. The strange tension from earlier returned. Pulling out his phone as a flashlight He headed for the door.

The phone wouldn't turn on.

"What?"

A soft laugh.

The man immediate y headed for his desk again, Looking around for what he swore he heard. Another lightning strike, the only illumination.

"Why so tense? Isn't this your home?"

Turning back he saw the door open and...

"How did you get in here? Who...wait...."

"Oh you recognize me?"

The young woman swayed into the room and seemed to shimmer in and out of view as the lightning lit her white garments.

"You know... it gets exhausting to travel around. Looking for you left overs. Especially the lucky ones like you in government. It makes me really want to make each encounter meaningful."

"I'm done with all that."

"Say whaaaat? Oh nooooo.... You're not the one with the chart. I know that. I got to spend time in a white bright room, ya know?. It was nice to think about what I wanted.... and the kind of friends I want to keep."

The man slowly sat in his chair and his hands disappeared beneath his desk.

"Oh dear, I hope you're not doing anything naughty over there!"

How can she see where my hands are to even make such a ridiculous assumption? The man thought. He could barely make her out at all.

Another lightning flash and she moved swiftly up to the desk but not too close. She kept some distance and started to rock in place.

"It's like red light, green light."

The man feigned nonchalance and settled into his chair more.. One hand under his desk as he took a bite of his donut.

"How did you get in here. Where are my dogs? My security? Tell me. Girl."

She froze and tapped her lip with a slender finger before shrugging.

"Why not have your wonderful Nexia tell you? Oh... you can't?"

She ran her hand up her head and towards the decoration of a knife literally rammed into her head. Above that were various more hair pins shaped like knives in her hair.

"Tech this tech that... blip beep boop. More important than your ability, hmmmm? You're pooches were nice. They liked what I fed them! You're guard... well... he was nice too kehe....."

The man's veil of bravery faded but he grew angry now.

"My fucking dogs?! I have a fucking backup generator and have you're face! I just-"

"Bluffffffing. I like it."

She pulled one of her hair pins out. the steel gleamed as more lightning flashed.

"You have nothing, nada, zero, capisce? You're just a fat oaf in his chair.. One that needs to do me a solid."

Somehow she was able to possibly kill his dogs and his security, shut off all power sources and the internet connection, even his phone?

So what he thought as a mere jest was true.

"You're a real special case Grim Alice."

"Aww you used my nickname I'm so honored! Things are a lot easier when you have the friends I've made kehe! Friends you could have made if you chose correctly!."

His hand moved. the grip on his gun strong as it was brought up and then....

Pain.

The gun fell from his hand as the long hair pin was now through his hand and the fine wood furniture beneath it. Blood gushed forth as he struggled to remove it.

Another in his shoulder, keeping him from moving his other arm. The pins held strong as she drew another and shook her head with a smile. The clicking of her tongue obnoxiously loud in the dark.

"Looky, guns! The great go too in times of need. Almost as sad as the techy shit!"

The smile turned to a smirk.

"I love me some guns. But this is more fun."

"Goddamnit bitch what do you want?!"

"Oh that."

Grim Alice threw another and pined the man's ear to the chair. He screamed as she leaned on the desk picked up his gun looking it over with a bored expression. The flesh of his ear had separated and only partly remained to his tilted head.

"You're an important guy. cheesy ears. You have a certain vote tomorrow. Right before you meet your kid right?."

"She... isn't a child... anymore... l-leave her alone! ...what about the vote?. I thought this was about me leaving the cult back then?"

"Oh that might matter too but this one is for work."

Someone hired this monster?

"Now.. You just need to not vote. Simple."

She made a pouty face and nodded in agreement with herself.

"I can't be bribed, Why does it even matter? This is just a simp-"

She sat on his desk one last hairpin at his throat.

"Nothing is ever simple in politics. That's what's dull about it. I like simple. So how about this? Ever been to wonderland♥?"

He wouldn't dare speak.

His eyes fell upon a photo of his daughter on the desk. That long blonde hair,, just like her mother. She was so beautiful... he wished her well.

The rest of the night was grim.
