Chako had no idea what this whole Terra Paddles thing was, but since Luthien invited her to, she figured, "Hey, why not!?"

So they went to something that looked like a ping pong table with some weird numbers all around, and Luthien did her first serving... Only, the judge announced Luth lost 1 point?

Chako started giggling, "You lost points from your first serving!? Just how bad can you be at this, Luthien!?" Chako could hardly keep herself on her own feet.

Well, it was her turn to serve now, so... "Here goes!" She had never played ping pong before, but surely it wasn't very hard.

She hit the ball with her racket and... "I lost a point!? How does that even work!?" Chako was seriously bummed out and started grumbling about how the game was cheating her.

"Well... Your move now, I guess."

She still had no idea who’d come up with this, or how the tables had even arrived at the League one day, but the younger whistles had instantly been drawn to them… and there had been a manual lying around too. "Mmm, guess about as bad as you Chako?" The elf couldn’t help herself from quipping up after the young felis lost a point of her own, a light chuckle escaping her as she got ready for the next serve.

Kinda like battleships… but in reverse? So far it was the best comparison she could think of to make sense of it, crimson eyes glancing down at her card once more to confirm the placement of her numbers, before her paddle lightly struck the small ball into the middle edge section in Chako’s court—right where a 1 was mirrored in her own card.

"That’s a minus two for me…" She was quick to update her stats along with the increase required on her scribbled numbers. "Alright, ready when you are."

"Now that's unfair!" Chako hissed at Luthien's reply... Until Luthien also lost another point from her attack, "Wait, do we always lose points or something!? Why do I lose points from my attacks!? That's mean! It's like the game is bullying me!"

Chako groaned... Not like she could do much about it now that she was playing... "Alright, here goes, then! Special spinning strike!" She smacked the ball with her paddle.

"... Huh!? I lost 2 points now!? How did I lose even more!? The game is cheating! Worse, it is double cheating! It's making me lose more and more!"

"Such a kind game, teaching us valuable life lessons." No matter what they did they’d get fucked over, the only true question was how much or how little that’d be. Fuck okay… might be time to approach those tile points differently.

The smile in her face however showed that Lúthien was having fun, even if ehr brows were furrowed constantly as the elf tried to figure out what could be a winning strategy as the game progressed. "Nice spin~" Chako was showing some good skills with the paddle, even if her shot cost her double the points compared to before.

For now Lúth decided to keep her own strikes straightforward and simple, the next ball landing in the middle row of Chako’s last column. "That’s two less for me and… alright, that should be good enough. Your turn, Chako~"

"What valuable life lesson is there? Everything you do just makes you lose faster? That's just a speed trip to depression land, it's no life lesson!" Chako exclaimed.

And as she did, she accidentally hit the ball with her paddle, "W-wait, nya!" And it... Made Chako lose 2 more points. "Uuuuuh... I didn't mean to throw there..." It was actually the best spot Chako could get the ball to land on, but she didn't know that... She didn't know any of the rules, actually.

"Well yeah, that’s a one way trip to depresso land if you look at it like that." A common pitfall trap for the younger kiddos to fall into as well, just like the ones in this paddle game. "Just gotta learn to think outside of the box… when life gives you lemons just shove them down the throat of your enemies, or something like that."

Whether accidental or not, Chako had managed to land her ball in the most favorable position given her current card. "Hey, you’re doing great so far." She did her best to aim given the limited "safe" options.

"I thought the idea was to make lemonade with it?" Chako tilted her head, "Like, I dunno... Wouldn't it be mean to shove lemons down someone's throat? What if they choked!? And wouldn't it leave burns too!?

"And it's not like I want to make enemies in the first place..." Chako came to Arcia to have fun, after all. To enjoy a life where she had legs and could have some independence... Hurting others really wasn't on her plans at all.

"You think so?" Chako really had no idea what she was doing, but... "Alright, then! Then I'll continue destroying you!" Chako exclaimed with a playful smile as she smacked the ball again.

"... As soon as I learn how to stop losing points on each of my turns that is!" There had to be a way, right...?

"That’s the thing, you make lemonade for your friends," she said, giving the young felis a small wink before continuing. "If your enemy chokes on the lemon that’s on them, not you."

There was a small pause as the referee realized they’d been counting a few things wrong and, after the points were straightened out, Lúthien readied herself for the next shot. Given the mix up she now found herself at a bigger disadvantage than she would’ve liked, and she would’ve loved to take back some point distributions she’d done before, but it wasn’t enough to bother the ranger.

After all, this was just a game for fun. "Yeah, I don’t think it’s possible to avoid losing points no matter what we do." The best they could do was lessen the impact.

Chako wasn't sure she followed the logic, "Wait, but how is it on them if I was the one who shoved the lemon down their throats?" She tilted her head. Things wouldn't simply stop being her fault just because she disliked someone, right?

Though with Luthien's wink, Chako felt that maybe she was overthinking it, which sent a shiver down her spine, "I-I guess I'm just gonna be glad I'm not your enemy..." Being Luthien's enemy is probably a very very scary experience...

And then... A sudden wild judge interferes! And... "Wait, so... I'm winning now? That's... That's like the game is cheating in my favor! That's so weird!" Chako really didn't know how to feel about it, like... Come on! How did Luthien lose all those points!?

Chako pouted a bit at Luthien's comment though, "I don't like losing points for playing... Well? I think I'm playing well? Probably?" Not like Chako understood the rules even now though... Well, no use worrying about. Better just keep on going ahead with the ping pong.

It got progressively harder to find “safe” spots as the game carried on, and her earlier blunder of the rules was certainly costing Lúthien now. "That’s the thing with Lady Luck, sometimes she gives and sometimes she takes away." Right now luck was definitely on Chako’s side, though some still seemed to remain for the blonde as her ball bounced off the very corner of a “safe” grid.

Chako smiled at Luthien's comment, "Well, she better just keep on giving to me, and take it away from other people, then!" Chako was unlucky enough to be born paraplegic, after all, so she surely deserved plenty of good luck for the rest of her life!

"Careful, Lady Luck's known for being quite fickle." Fair advice to give the younger felis, moreso since Lúthien knew she was from the most recent batch of newbies that had arrived into the game not long ago. "She likes to far beginners for a bit... before letting them find out without warning."

However it seemed that, at least for now, luck was still on Chako's side. Despite her best attempt to spin her ball into one of the few "safe" tiles on the court Lúthien struck out and, given the amount of HP left in her own card, the elf knew she'd lost this round.

Chako gave out a wry laugh, "Ah, you don't have to worry too much about that... I have been on Lady Luck's bad side since I was born anyways." She glanced at her own legs for a second, before shrugging. No need to talk about that in the middle of a game, after all.

Only... "Wait, I won? Just like that?" Chako blinked a few times, trying to understand what just happened, "Uhn... Wanna go eat something then, I guess? You pay though. I'm broke." Chako suggested.

... She figured she should try reading the instructions before her next match though.

"Yup, just like that." Overall it was a fairly simple game, though one she was certain the newer recruits in the League would probably enjoy, especially the younger ones like Chako and Lil’ Doggo. For some reason they kept attracting considerably young players, something that worried the ranger… but knowing she couldn’t just stop them from playing, Lúthien had decided to help train them the best she could.

Hopefully times will be peaceful for a while… Alfather knows they all need some R&R around here.

"Sure, I haven’t done today’s run to Dough Re Mi yet anyways." There was nothing like a sweet treat as a reward for working hard, a tactic that had worked well whenever the elf implemented it during Whistle training. "You can pick out your favorite along with a drink, but you’re helping carry everything else back to the League afterwards~"
