"A pleasure to meet you, Yugam." he would give him a firm handshake, potentially crushing the mans hand depending on his sensibilities, before turning back to Askera. "I can sort of of get what you're going for. It looks like magitek, if you want I can put you in touch with my partner Corsair." He shook his head. "She could probably help you out. That all being said." He would furrow his brow, watching the man working. "Should you be working right now? You just ruptured all of your arteries. You should be relaxing and recovering, not potentially putting yourself on the way to another hospital visit."

He squinted at the block of metal and then the scholar. "Perhaps you should wait till you're back in the lab and have all of your tools, otherwise it looks like you're at a stalemate with the block of metal." He would reach up and grab it, tossing it from one hand to another idly.

"What are you even planning on using this for?"

Askera squints as his gaze turns out towards the large... Adventure-oriented, as he will call the man, individual who was holding a part of his project. He would defer to his better judgement for now and assume that Brutus was not, in fact, asking him for the third time in this room what he was attempting to build-rather that he had been asking about the component in question.

"Twist the side with markings on it clockwise," He instructed. To Brutus' surprise, despite there being no nuts, bolts or any other indicator that this was a complex object, the metal block twisted open to reveal an inner working beneath the now apparent cap. It was hard to tell in the lighting, but there appeared to be some sort of speckled glass running through metal. The imagery reminded the memory of a less streamlined circuit board.

"It's the router to carry and direct signals. I... am not exactly sure if radio waves exist in Terrasphere, so I've resorted for the time being to use the realspace-breach curse to create a connected point of space between several points.

It's what people wish wireless connections would be, if you will. I can only hope that someone won't get the idea to use a dispel magic skill on them... I have yet to think of a creative safety gate for the event that the portals close."

Ominous. Was Brutus holding a bomb?

Toko raised a questioning eyebrow towards the Felis as he seemed to chastise the researcher for working on a small project as he laid in his bed, the rabbit unable to believe Brutus was actually saying that considering he'd been fine with letting the recovering scientist smoke inside a hospital room no less. She chose to not make a comment regarding it however, mostly because she couldn't settle on what exactly to say in the first place, before the mention of Corsair had Toko nodding in agreement.

"Yeah Researcher-san, I think you'd both would get along very well—and her magitech constructs are simply marvelous."

Quietly the Lepus would listen as Askera delved more into the little apparatus he was forming, watching as Brutus followed the man's directions of turning and twisting to reveal the intricate insides of the cube he held... before a particular mention of the scientist had Toko blinking in surprise, carefully turning her gaze back to Askera as she realized the implications behind his words.

"N-Nani...?"

Was it even safe to have that here in the hospital?!

While the others chatted about this 'Corsair' person, Yu leaned closer to Brutus to get a better look at the machine that Askera was working on. The vague form of a circuit board, admittedly a little roughly put together, but the imagery was there at least. Yu wondered how in the hell Askera had managed to make any of this while in his hospital bed, without any real tools or materials...but, then again, magic was a thing here.

"I can only hope that someone won't get the idea to use a dispel magic skill on them..."

"Uh, what would happen if someone did try to dispel it?" Yu asked, his voice lacking any hint of nervousness, or indication that he knew whether or not they were in danger. "And, uh, what's a realspace-breach? Like a wormhole?"

"So instead of a system like wifi or radio towers you're basically just uh..." he paused. "Poking very small holes in space and time to bridge the gap in communication?" The giant, noticing that Yugam wanted to take a better look would offer him the device.

"I get what you were saying earlier, I'm asking what specific sort of project you're planning on making with it. You said an RC car, but I somehow doubt that you actually plan something so basic or mundane like that. You clearly have a larger goal in mind, no? Something like communications networks of some sort? Maybe a Terrasphere internet?"

He would raise an eyebrow back at the Lepus as she seemed to give him some form of Stink Eye from her seated position from across the bed. He'd gotten used to reading the bun's face from their time together, and she was giving him a look.

What?

The primal aura radiated across the bed to her.

"Also, if you're bending space with this, is it really safe to be working on in your condition?"

"Of course. The device isn't powered, nor does it have any dark power in it. It's just the physical framework. I'm using a crafting menu to make it." This was technically true. He did have a menu to create, though it was more complex than simply picking an option and using it. There was an entire registry system for creating parts and...

And two of the folk appeared to be giving each-other the stink eye. If there was one thing that Askera never enjoyed, it was silent politics between people at a workplace-and this second home that was the MIT also happened to feel like his workplace.

Thus, it was time for a test that he had been thinking of for quite a while.

Did you know that, depending on your selected race, you may have otherwise subdued instincts enhanced? It was a fact that he had long since come across, one that he believed was related to the portion of the brain that one needed to touch upon to simulate enhanced senses in terrasphere.

For beastfolk, certain aspects of 'flinching' were enhanced in relation to stimuli.

A device was in the professor's hand, one pulled out of his inventory. What did it do?

Spray water into the air very sharply.

"Please focus on the topic at hand, my kouhai. We have an important lesson to be shown here. Look at the way this box is set up." Once more, his remote control router was shown around to the students as he continued, "None of it is active. The power of curses is not here, and no energy can be created in the closed circuit.

And yet, I think it to be finished. I haven't even tested it yet, but I have faith in the parts. Why? Terrasphere's crafting is a system that uses modular parts. I have used these glass wires before in conjuction with the static curse to create power, and I have weakened the barrier of reality to create portals in order to power a separate device in the past.

Can you tell me what it is-the device in both cases?"
Askera asked of the people in the room. He allowed a moment's time to pass before displaying the answer.

It was the spray nozzle machine that had been designed to spray healing potions.

"I used the same portals already... not to transfer energy, but to simulate pressure. The method of powering the curse was the same, too. I'm just recycling parts that have already worked-and that is why I can tell you with confidence, my kouhai, that this remote router device is safe as it is. I have yet to even power it."

He set his shaky hands down, dismissing the lesson. He only hoped that it had been distraction enough to cool the nerves of his visitors.

She felt the familiar aura slowly spread towards her conscience, the Felis clearly inquisitive about her look though unable to connect the dots. Eventually her own aura casted outwards, finding purchase in Brutus conscience for a moment to deliver a reply.

... nandemonai—
SPRIIIIIITZZZ!
"N-Nanda...?!"

Her ears flickered first, catching the sound of the water as it was released into the air, before the mist softly sprinkled onto her face and shoulders. A surprised and puzzled look crossed the Lepus' face as she looked back to the researcher holding the spray water bottle, her mouth opening and closing a few times as Toko tried to find the right words to say.

"Douh yatte...? Naze...? Doko karah...?!"

Before things could continue though Askera was already gathering the attention of all three kouhai present, curious eyes peering into the box as the man pointed out the lack of an energy source. Still his explanation was reassuring, the knowledge that whatever the man was currently working on wasn't truly dangerous for the time being causing Toko to let out a sigh of relief.

At least they wouldn't have to worry about Askera getting further injured when he was meant to be recovering.

Apparently, Askera was seeing something that Yugam was not. A growing tension between the two beastfolk as some unseen argument? Debate? Some unseen something ultimately culminated with Askera pulling out some kind of spray bottle from the ether and spritzing the two with what was presumably water. Yu just looked at the the three of them, blinking slowly. "Uh...?"

"Please focus on the topic at hand, my kouhai."

Was Yu supposed to respond? Hai, senpai? Was that even directed at him? Unsure of what to do, Yu sat there and listened to Askera's explanation with interest. Although, Yu would've been lying if he understood even a little bit of what the man had just said. You'd think those two years of studying mechanical engineering in school would've helped him make sense of literally anything Askera had just said, but Yu was drawing a huge blank.

"Okay, so I get how you're creating electricity via static and wires, although how glass is conducting it is beyond me, but how do you power things via portals?"

"The glass is an insulant. You might be able to see the specks inside, but there are conductors that allow the energy to travel inside." Two unsteady fingers tap the glass tubes in question. "The realspace breach isn't there to create power-it's what I'm powering. In the case of the spray machine, it opens to create a difference in pressure that sends the liquid out. And in the case of this project..."

A single, pointing finger trails through the air between the metal box and the contraption that remained in Brutus' hand.

"It's there to carry the energy from one point to another, no wires involved. It's a router without radio waves, which I'm unsure exist inside of this world. I improvise because of little things like that-I'm no scientist, and when I find a solution that works I latch onto it like a scavenger at a scrap heap."

It could at least be imagined, the thought of a signal teleporting from a remote control to a television. It seemed plausible, even.

The apple between Askera's teeth snapped in half. His things were dropped onto the bedside.

"Ugh..." A wave of dizziness had struck him at the time. Wasn't he supposed to be recovering..? And yet he felt as if he were going to pass out at any moment. Askera felt desperate in the sudden situation, and his lax fingers twitched as if trying to reach out to anyone else in the room.

Brutus would have jumped a bit as the man sprayed the mist into the air. His Feline nature kicked in, and he almost swatted at the scholar, almost. He would listen as he explained his project, losing the sauce so to speak. He was smart, sure, but not uh, smart enough for this. When the scholar started to have an episode, he would reach out to him and grab his hand supportively. "Eh, Askera?" His eyes widened as he bolted to his feet and grabbed the man. "Shit, nurse!" he would roar out before whipping to look to Toko. "Fucking...Toko hit em with some or your healing." He would turn to Yugam. "Yu, go grab a nurse, he might be having aftershocks from his injury or something. Complications, I don't fuckin know."

He would turn back to the scholar and give him a light shake. "Yo, Doc, stay with us bud. You doing okay? Walk me through it. Stay with me bud."

Suddenly everything made sense, now that Askera explained it. Upon closer inspection, there were indeed small metallic flecks through the glass tubes, possibly copper. Crude, but effective conductors. And as Askera explained the portals' actual functions, it all clicked. "Oh, damn, that's pretty clever, actually," Yu commented, his attention solely on the device right up until the point that Askera became to feel ill.

On command, Yu burst from the hospital room, the door slamming against the wall, announcing almost as loudly as Yu's voice that assistance was acquired. "Nurse! We need a nurse in here!"

For a split second the Lepus couldn't help but blink in confusion, absolutely certain that the researcher suddenly looked extremely pale compared to just a moment ago... were his eyes beginning to go a purplish blue shade? Brutus was the first one to react as he extended a hand out to stop Askera from possibly toppling over his bed, the Felis calling out to the rabbit for magical healing as Toko fumbled to get closer.

Yugam was already heading for the door, calling out loudly for assistance, while the rabbit looked around in a panic. "Button... a button...! Brutus, there should be a button around to call the nurses and doctors, find it!!!" Her hands reached over to clasp around one of the scientist, and for a moment Nao felt she was back home instead of in the game... and someone else was lying on that bed.

"Okite iru, Askera-san!!!"

The Lepus closed her eyes, her senses quickly searching their surroundings for anything natural... instantly homing on the various flowers Brutus and Yugam had brought as part of their gifts for Askera. The amethyst earring on the Lepus right ear glowed brightly as she focused on the scent of the plants. Hataraite kudasai...!!! Her thoughts focused on the natural aspects of nature that promoted growth and regeneration, the magic leaking in droves from the rabbit who was quite inexperience when it came to these sort of applications... a crack suddenly echoing from the windowsill as the ceramic vases cracked throughout, the one small flower cuttings within them having exploded into large bushels of verdant green leaves and blossoms.

Did they really need to panic in such a serious manner? The buzzer had already been sounded. It was only natural that they just had to wait...

Was it just him, or was everything getting dark?

When he next awoke, it was a time much later. It appeared that he had fallen into relapse just before his recovery, but there were thankfully no problems that had arisen. He had recovered just about at this time, and was free to walk around.

He glanced at the other three left in the room. They'd fallen asleep waiting... or maybe they'd been anesthetized while he had been out. Either option seemed like it had been plausible knowing these folk.

"Hm. Well, then... I'll be seeing you all at the next experiment."

A hand tussled through Yugam's hair and gave a pat on the back to Brutus. Toko was given a blanket he had on hand in his inventory-she could give it back to him later.
He left alone, but not with an empty heart. His was full of blood and a comfortable feeling of companionship.
