A cool but not freezing winter day in the Astorean capital of Finweald. Snow was all along the roads and upon the rooftops, but today it would be a fine day to venture forth to stock up on supplies. Whether it is food items or other ingredients for the many projects at MIT. So Nin could be found outside for once and actively touching grass.

Nin weaved past other people all dressed in festive attire. Her face in a pout. She never found the mathematic logic behind such a thing as Wintersday. It just got in the way of research when she had to deal with others taking days off and shops closing that had something she needed immediately.

Time was money and math. Money also was math!

She dragged a cart by one hand. Within the cart were the supplies she bought for the week or so. She would then lurk in her lab until otherwise called for. Or it would have been that simple...

A goose was held under her other arm. Nin adored geese and this one had come directly to her. It had brought her a picture of some blue haired woman. It said something like Secret Santa. Secret what now?

"Hmph, why would I want to waste my time with something like this? You are overworked aren't you little bird? If all of your activities are not calculated in adequate fractions you will find yourself underperforming in all equations. I will make sure you are fed upon return to the lab. Only 765.23 steps remain.

Of course she would free the bird after feeding it, but it needed to be taken care of first!

As for this blunette...
What would be best to add to that digit was an unknown factor.

To say that Alice was frantic would have been an overstatement. The magia did not get frantic, she did not have the capacity for it. Despite this, she was about as close as an emotionless android could be. When she had first signed up for this 'Mystery Santa' event, the girl had thought it would be a good exercise in expressing gratitude and thought of someone. It wouldn't matter whether or not Alice knew her recipient or not, that only added further challenge, and would allow her to practice generalized gift selection, finding something that could be suited to almost anyone.

The one thing she had uncharacteristically overlooked was the fact that she had no idea what most people considered 'a good present'. For her, her mother had always gotten her some piece of jewelry, which Alice did not place any value beyond its monetary. Her mother would use them to help choose Alice's outfits for important events, since the girl was hopeless at that. Her father, on the other hand, had always given her some new product from the company, varying from a new audio device, or a tablet, or a keyboard. Again, these held no value for Alice. Alice, for her part, never knew what to get either of her parents, and allowed Ms. Nishinoya to guide her decisions, following her suggestion.

And so that became Alice's plan of action. Heed Ms. Nishinoya's many pieces of advice over the years. It had taken until now to learn about her recipient, and then find something that was suitable. The girl walked back towards the MIT headquarters, covered in dirt, grime, and what looked to be oil and grease. Not to mention the spattering of blood that stained her clothes, sourced from a variety of flesh wounds. Alice earned herself some strange stares as she walked towards the building, but the girl paid them no mind. "This must be sufficient," the girl said to herself for the one thousand three hundred and forty sixth time as she stared at the white cloth wrapped disc in her hand, a red bow wrapped across it's diameter. She still had not convinced herself. But she had no other recourse. "This must be sufficient."

Arriving back at the Magical Institute, Nin pet her new precious goose on the head as a Fixer took the purchased goods and brought them into the building. It had been enough that she went to get them surely she didn't have to haul all of these things into the lab as well!

"This must be sufficient."

"I certainly hope so! ...hmmm?"

Nin noticed that the voice was not from who she had expected but rather... blue hair? A Magia as well from the look of it and covered in all sorts of unwanted add-ons! Of all the probable calculations...

"You there. Don't dirty up the place! (*Honk* said the goose) Yes, I'm aware she matches the image by 67.9%. Be quiet now. *Ahem*...excuse me are you this person?"

Pulling out a wrinkled note and shaking it loose while holding her honking goose. Nin shoved the poorly drawn portrait of Alice into the dirty Magia's face.

If Terrasphere was one of those games where a little exclamation point appeared over someone's head whenever they were startled, one would have appeared above Alice's, who stopped dead in her tracks when her target suddenly replied to the magia's muttering. "This must be sufficient."
"I certainly hope so!"
"It is sufficient!"
Alice squeaked reflexively, though she was still uncertain if her gift was indeed sufficient.
"...hmmm?" the woman hummed, inspecting Alice.

'Conclusion: She was not speaking to me,' Alice thought to herself.

After a short conversation with a goose (Ah, how impressive! She must have learned to translate the goose's dialect, whilst also having trained the goose to comprehend the common tongue!) the woman shoved a very rough sketch in Alice's face. "Yes, I believe this is meant to be a depiction of myself, though it's accuracy is rather poor. That must mean you are Ms. Nin," Alice replied. "I have a gift for you, per the rules of 'Secret Santa'. If you are prepared to receive the package now, I will leave it in your possession. Elsewise, we may schedule a meeting for this seasonal exchanging of gifts at a later time of your choosing."

"..."

Nin stared at Alice for a moment. It wasn't that she had never seen or worked with a Magia before... more like she was still fascinated by them. Artificial life was something anyone who studied alchemy would find as a great achievement.

Although, could you even consider a Starcalled-hosted Magia as artificial anymore?

"...I see. Alright then... here let me... yes right here..."

Nin grabbed a random item that was being transported out of her cart.

[Magitrust Brand Steel Cleaner and Polish]

She thrust the bottle at the Magia and had a Fixer take the gift from her greasy hand.

"Here, go remove all of those remainders of filth from your sum. I will take your addition to my lab for later analysis. ...excelsior."

Turning away, Nin hurried on her way holding both the gift and Goose in hand. At last, she could return to her research undisturbed for the rest of the year.

Nin fished something out of the cart before tossing it towards Alice. The magia caught it with both hands, fumbling with it for a moment, her grease covered fingers failing to find any good purchase on the item before she was finally able to securely grasp it and look at the label.

[Magitrust Brand Steel Cleaner and Polish]

"Thank you, it is a kind gift,"
the woman said, her voice flat as ever. Perhaps this would assist her in cleaning her rotors.

"Here, go remove all of those remainders of filth from your sum. I will take your addition to my lab for later analysis. ...excelsior."

"Ah, wait!"
Alice called after the woman as she turned to start walking away. "You must open my gift, and tell me if it is sufficient. It is required." Were you not supposed to examine gifts, and thank the gifter? Alice had been taught that this was proper, and a formality that must be observed.

You must open my gift, and tell me if it is sufficient. It is required."

Nin stopped as the Royal Goose finally decided it had enough and jumped out of her grasp. Honking as it dashed through the MIT building.

"Required? I would not be the one to ask. I'm not all that familiar with Starcalled customs. ..At least not something like Wintersday or Christmas as I've once heard it called. Rubbish but very well, if you insist."

*Crashing sounds and shouts*

Unwrapping the greasy package she looked at a lump of something. Perhaps from Vintergard? It looked... like trash but to a scientist and especially a mathematician perhaps there was something usable here. Although the glum judgemental look on the green-haired beastfolk's face was plain as day.

"...Hmmm well, it is a thing isn't it? Without further analysis, I won't be able to tell how it adds to my sum of problems. Thank you, now (*Crash Bang Boom*).... if you'll excuse me..."

And with that, she hurried on.
