Corsair woke to bird song. She felt calm. Immensely so. Her mind was like a still pool, sheened over with the light of rising sun.
There was a jacket over her. Over them. Brutus was sleeping beside her, a massive pillar of reliable, dependable friendship. She paid him little mind. There was something she needed to do. She searched for it amidst her still and stagnant thoughts.
Slowly, like algae growing along the side of a submerged root, she moved from under the jacket. The leather was heavy. Was this his heavy armor? As she slowly became aware of more of her surroundings, a voice inside her called out, drawing her back inside.
Corsair snapped to the front. She felt fantastic. Her hunger and thirst bars were barely nudging half, but there was plenty of time before a well deserved rest, and an absolute treasure trove of quests to hand in. She searched her pockets, and then the pockets of the coat. Nothing.
She nudged Brutus, gently at first and then more roughly. "Brutus. Where is my spider? I have to get this spirit out of me."
