The sudden scream that ruptured the air around them had caused the elf to step back even further than she’d initially intended, a startled loon on those crimson eyes when she’d noticed the massive steel protrusion now on Lune’s hand instead of her chest. "What the fuck...?" To her surprise the metal chunk soon transformed into a greatsword, before the wielder took a stance that was all too familiar for the ranger.

Lune had managed to parry the first few arrows shot in her direction, their metal tips sparking as they came into contact with the dark metall of her weapon, before the woman had eventually opted for a gravitational force field instead. From her spot the blonde couldn’t help the smirk that had pulled at her lips, the older woman no doubt confidently thinking the ranger’s arrows would be of little use for the dreamwalker, before the delayed chain lightning finally kicked into effect all around the steel reaver.

"Rrrrrr..."

"Awww, was that too electrifying for ya?" She hadn't meant to antagonize the other player further, but the words purred out of her tongue before Lúthien had a chance to stop them. "Tough luck ‘cause ain’t dialing it down for you, Lune.”

Her opponent turned towards the blonde knightess then, an exchange happening between the two that Lúthien couldn’t quite hear from where she stood, before the sudden massive bolt of lightning that struck the woman down earned a surprised yelp from the ranger. "H-Hey, no outside interference…!" Her hand lowered from her eyes just as the last flashes of the lightning disappeared, noticing the white armor with golden lining that Lune was sporting… and, while Lúthien had never seen it in the flesh so to speak, it wasn’t hard for the girl to remember where she’d seen such a design before.

"The Immortal Heroine…" For a moment the dreamwalker forgot all about the battle at hand, a dumbfounded expression on her face as she turned her attention towards Freya. "W-Wait, is that you?!"

Lúthien would soon learn that taking her eyes off the opponent was never a good idea, the sudden gravitational wave sent in her direction caught too late for the elf to do much about it except try and brace herself… and even that proved quite futile as the ranger was sent tumbling back forcefully against the hardened and rough surface of Dayeon’s dreamspace. "F-Fuck...!" Had she been on better terms with Lune perhaps the blonde would’ve joked about her attacks hitting like a Truck-kun pulled right out of an isekai manga, but as it stood the elf reserved any comments to herself as she got back to her feet.

Short breaths tried to regain all the oxygen that Lúthien felt was punched right out of her lungs, brows furrowing even as the blonde wiped the blood at the edge of her lips with the back of her palm. Another hit like that would no doubt end her, so perhaps now was the best time to test that out? A gradual shift was felt in the air around them, the currents swaying and changing direction as they seemed to be drawn towards the elf. A light green glow soon formed around the ranger’s lithe frame, her eyes glowing with energy as Lúthien’s senses were sharpened and her movements hastened.

"Alright playtime’s over," Two new arrows were nocked onto her bow as she spoke, the electricity now visible as it crackled down her elven arm before being absorbed into her Fallen Usurpers through their spiraled metal tips. "Better keep your word when I win!"

"The Immortal Heroine…"

"Look at your opponent while you're fighting."
The thirty-foot-tall gigantic suit of armor released a graviton punch that sent Luthien flying. Quickly, it started to dash to close the distance between them while Luthien was still down. The elf quickly got back up, already readied a different pair of arrows, the storm of electricity around her arm gradually concentrated on the tips.

"Better keep your word when I win!"

The armor kept its unstoppable onslaught as two arrows embed themselves in the middle of its chest, seemingly doing nothing except almost. But Lune already knew from the last attack that there was another lightning blast coming, but as long as she could close the gap...

Suddenly, a bolt of pure electricity pierced the gigantic armor's chest, causing it to halt its running rampage. Another soon followed, forcing the armor to kneel, and a third, finishing boom soon followed as the two arrows managed to clash their currents, causing the gigantic presence to outright explode from the force it caused.

But it was not over. From the thick smoke and ember leaped a fiery silhouette, burning with high intense heat still trying to land her overhead greatsword swing; her dark hair, black-clad suit of armor, pale skin, and demonic features made it clear who it was.

Alright so maaaybe it wasn’t a bright idea to take her eyes off Lune… but the unexpected revelation of Freya’s actual identity had certainly been a surprising shock for the girl—and certainly explained why the blonde knightess had so aggressively asked Lúthien if she recognized her when they met for the first time. Despite getting swept up and ragdolled by the gravitational punch of the immense suit the ranger wasn’t down and out of the count yet, and she’d been quick to recover as the first of many arrows were let loose.

The first two had managed to embed themselves right into the chest piece, to the surprise of the dreamwalker, before the girl summoned a wall of ice to try and mitigate an incoming punch. It wrecked right through her defense, sharp icicle shards cutting at her exposed skin, though in the end she’d been pleased to find her little trick had absorbed most of the spatial force that the attack had carried.

"Just so we’re clear," she called out, another pair of arrows nocked and charged before they found their marks in one of the knees of the gigantic armor. "You’re totally cheating by asking Freya for that thing!"

Her onslaught continued as the elf released arrow after arrow, aiming for the joints of the armor, and when the last one found its mark it sparked outwards—causing a chain reaction as the lightning traveled from bolt to bolt and throughout the whole armor. For a split moment Lúthien had thought it wouldn’t be enough, aware that she lacked the physical prowess to stop the rampaging giant, when a loud craaack! echoed through the dreamspace.

From the first fissure more followed soon after, electricity coursing through the newly formed channels and penetrating further into the armor that Lune had been provided, before it finally succumbed to her lightning as it shattered into massive pieces around them. "Haaah! Suck it, Lune—?!" A cheerful cry had escaped her lips upon seeing it crumble, though her gloating soon came to an abrupt stop as an unexpected brunette leapt out of the smoke and embers.

"Dee?!" She barely managed to sidestep the incoming greatsword, the metal tip of an arrow sparking against the blade as Lúthien parried it away. "H-Hold up—h-hey, I said wait—STOP!"

SMACK! A hand reached out as Moonsong refused to halt her attacks, the open palm slapping Dayeon right on her left cheek as Lúthien shouted out a single command.

"You’re totally cheating by asking Freya for that thing!"

"Using my own power is cheating, now?" The voice that came out from her mouth still echoed deeply, indicating that it was still Lune, not Dayeon. As Luthien dodged the heavy attack, the other woman got herself slapping her left cheek, causing her to stumble and fall due to her own forward momentum, rolling a few times on the invisible floor before stopping with her back against the ground.

She turned to the elf, brows furrowed like she was sulking "... What kind of person asks their enemy to hold up in the middle of the fight?" Sighing, her brunette hair slowly turned back to blue, as the borrowed form expired. The knight, who was watching on the sideline, made her way toward the two while having a big, smug smile on her face.

"Judging by that knockoff, second-rate pale imitation of my coffin, it seems like this immortal blondie was actually stronger, Lune."

"Give me a break, grandma. It's my dream, I'm allowed to use whatever I want."
Even with her face half-burnt, she just chuckled, taking the blonde's hand to get up. It's... a weird view? One of the women was trying to kick the elf a moment ago and now they're just joking with each other. The two strangely well-acquainted mysterious women then turned toward the dream invader.

"Alright, two questions. I'm a woman of my word and I was being generous." Lune spoke, still trying to peel the skin off her burnt cheek. She put up two fingers on her hand, "Only two."

"Using my own power is cheating, now?"
"Uuh, yeah?! That’s Freya’s, not yours!"

It was unsettling to hear Lune’s voice even when the very image of Dayeon marched straight for Lúthien, and perhaps because of that the ranger hadn’t restrained herself as she’d struck the woman on the left cheek. "Middle of a… woman, have you seen yourself?" Honestly a part of her was surprised that Dayeon/Lune could still swing that greatsword around, a relieved sigh quietly escaping Lúthien’s lips as she watched those brunette locks revert back to their blue shades.

She was unnaturally silent even as Freya joined them, the large and smug smile on the knightess face noted but not commented on as her elven mind raced with various new thoughts. "Alright, two questions.” Lune’s voice snapped the blonde out of her own thoughts, her brows still furrowed as Lúthien tried to think of her first question.

There was so much she wished to ask, and while her mind had slowly begun to connect some of the dots around there were still large lagoons that Lúthien had no answers for. "Alright, first question then… why are you doing all of this?"

A hand waved around the dreamspace and the once non-existence house, as if to emphasize the ruptures in space that had given Lúthien a glimpse into Dayeon’s memories. "Dodging Fiora and me, even going far enough to delete us from your contact list, not to mention… well, you." Finally the elf pointed towards the steel reaver, and while the girl still had no concrete explanation as to how this had happened one thing had been made clear through their fighting and the memories that Lúthien had witnessed.

This Lune character was actually Dayeon, or at least the current version of her.

"Uuh, yeah?! That’s Freya’s, not yours!"

"What is hers is also mine. Vice versa." She replied.

"Alright, first question then… why are you doing all of this?"

"Who, me? Her? Dayeon?"

She turned to the blonde, and then to the house, where Dayeon was apparently sleeping. The blonde knight however, pointed at her while making the 'of course it's you, dumbass' face.

"Dodging Fiora and me, even going far enough to delete us from your contact list, not to mention… well, you."

"Alright, keep this off the record then, Freya. Dayeon shouldn't know."

"I'll block this whole dream sequence, don't worry."

The steel reaver sighed, unsure where to begin. But Luthien only asked about the 'why', so she's just gonna answer exactly with that. "... Dayeon needs help, but when someone's going to the deep end, they don't bring their friends with them. If you truly understand her, you'll know that." The woman pointed towards the elf.

"A lot of shitfests could have been avoided if she worked alone, I'm just gonna say. For example, the disaster that was the Lubeck incident..." The blue-haired woman stopped, turning to the knight beside her "... Shit, I also gotta clean that up, didn't I?" She frowned, remembering that even Freya got her ass kicked helping Dayeon fight that one entity.

"Anyway, friends don't bring friends into danger, as simple as that. Would just rather push them away for safety reasons, and do it all herself. Don't give me the 'we do things together', 'no one left behind', or 'one for all, all for one' crap. It has never worked, at all."

Only one finger then remained up.

"Next question."

She wasn’t sure if Lune was just trying to be funny, or if the blue-haired woman really hadn’t understood her question, but at least it seemed like Freya was on the same wavelength as the elf as she gave the woman a pointed look. One eyebrow raised carefully at the choice of words from the women while they spoke, slowly but surely beginning to get a better understanding of what exactly was going on within Dayeon’s dreamspace… kinda.

"Yeah, I think we all know how the stories go when the emm-see tries to do stuff solo…" Arms had crossed over her chest as the ranger spoke, a seriousness to her expression as she conversed with the other two. "They get wrecked."

It’s not like Lúthien couldn’t understand the sentiment, after all hyper-independence had been her own bread and butter growing up—and while meeting, and eventually moving in with, her grandparents in her late teenage years had helped Valeria curb this coping mechanism slightly their death had made it easy for the girl to revert back to old habits… though she was trying to work on that once more.

A classic case of the kettle calling the pot black really, but perhaps that’s why the elf was so adamant when it came to busting through Dayeon’s defenses—whether her unnie wanted her to or not.

"Now hold on, Lübeck is hardly a fair example." Not only had they lacked proper information concerning the everwhite but other factors had also been at play then. It had thrown a massive wrench into their synergy before the fight even began, and had caused them to go in without a plan or even the faintest idea of a strategy to handle it all. "If anything, something like the Eternal Gazer would be a better example."

While there had been a few close calls within that mission in the end they had managed to complete all of the main objectives successfully, and the teamwork of the group had been quite decent considering four of the members were complete unknowns for the ranger, and two others were acquaintances at best.

"Anyway, friends don't bring friends into danger, as simple as that… It has never worked, at all."

She’d held her tongue, barely, as Lune had gone on her little monologue regarding the safety of friends and how working together never paid off—though the frown on her face probably spoke volumes of the opinion Lúthien had on the matter.

"That’s bullshit and you know it. A heavy sigh left her lips even as a hand rose to her face, fingers pinching the bridge of her nose as the blonde tried to keep herself calm and leveled. It wouldn’t do to get in another fight here and now. "Had it not been for teamwork the whole of Camp Hope would’ve gotten fucked back in September."

Sure, things could’ve gone better... but they could’ve also gone a lot worse too, and while Lúthien still had some regrets in the grand scheme of things she couldn’t say their combined actions hadn’t amounted to anything—plenty of players and NPCs had definitely been spared thanks to the actions of those present.

"Besides I’m no fucking everwhite, but I definitely just kicked your ass… and that’s after you took Freya’s armor for a spin, too." Despite her best attempts she couldn’t help the faint smirk that pulled at a corner of her lips, hands now resting on her hips before Lune reminded the blonde that she had one question remaining.

"Yeah yeah, I know, gimme a second to think." Eyebrows furrowed in thought as the elf considered her next words carefully, and while there were plenty of questions remaining none seemed to jump into the forefront of her mind as the one Lúthien finally settled on… except the girl wasn’t sure if it was one she actually wished to know the answer of. "Dayeon… does she really think that little of me?"

Not only had the woman gone through great lengths apparently to avoid involving Lúthien in whatever plan the idol and her… mind friends had seemingly concocted—though she’d seemed perfectly fine with involving Yugam—in an alleged attempt to keep her safe, but even in the real world Dayeon hadn’t seemed to trust her enough to even talk about the problems that plagued her. Hell, she’d only found out when the label had finally decided to make everything public.

"She calls me her yeodongsaeng... but she certainly doesn’t treat me like one."

"They get wrecked."

"I think we read different books. Seen Solo Leveling?"

"That's bullshit and you know it. Had it not been for teamwork the whole of Camp Hope would’ve gotten fucked back in September."

"What teamwork?!" She suddenly exploded at the mention of Camp Hope, that moment being an important pillar in her creation. "You dare to speak about Camp Hope while running around doing scooby-doo things yourself. Do you know how many died during that battle?!" Lune growled, causing Freya to react a bit to the outcry.

"Kyra, that time guy Erick, Kenji, Dayeon—" Okay, maybe Luthien wasn't supposed to know about that. But it's too late for now. "—Friends? Where?! Everyone's busy fighting by themselves. Not a single person was beside her as she pleaded for her lover to stop. Should've let that camp burn to the ground." After the whole outburst, Lune had to calm herself down by inhaling a lot of imaginary oxygen, before continuing.

"It's making me sick, you guys treating this like playing house, holding hands together while bringing your friends as a sacrifice. It's a fucking disease, and you're still able to spout this bullshit because you never felt what she felt."

"Besides I’m no fucking everwhite, but I definitely just kicked your ass… and that’s after you took Freya’s armor for a spin, too."

"Mortal Heroine." The knight added an insult to the injury, albeit jokingly.

"Dayeon… does she really think that little of me?"

Lune's face changed again, her eyes opened really wide as if she was going to explode again. But instead, the eyes turned sad as she muttered softly, "... I thought you would understand her, understand me..." Her voice was full of disappointment "... You, Val, of all people."

The blue-haired woman turned back, "Freya, you go talk with her. I'm... just going to sleep." The blonde knightess nodded, "Sorry, Lune." Letting her go walking away to the house before turning to Luthien to answer unanswered questions. "Valeria..." She exhaled, just hearing the whole exchange also made her want to sleep. "Dayeon, she's just a fragile glass. If you confront her with force, she just shatters..." She touched the middle of her chest, while calmly speaking to the elf. "... And then you get me, Lune, who knows how many more."

"I don't know how you grow up, but you can't assume everyone works the same way." The motherly, calm tone was clearly a contrast to Lune's brash one.

"Please, I could very well counter Solo Leveling with Rising of the Shield Hero, That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime or even Log Horizon." There was a frown on her face as Lune brought up that particular web novel, a hand in the air as the girl raised one finger for each mentioned series she spoke of. "Solo Leveling's fantasy only works because he managed to cheat the system in the first place. If such a thing was possible in this game I bet it wouldn’t last long, not to mention it’d probably collect a hefty payment sooner or later."

Any chance for a continued conversation was lost however the moment Camp Hope IV was mentioned and the steel reaver exploded in response. The ferocity of the woman had caught her off-guard at first as Lúthien took a step back, before the accusation flung in her direction caused the elf to grit her teeth.

"Excuse you?!" Crimson eyes narrowed in Lune’s direction, a sharpened glare upon them as the woman had struck a touchy nerve on the dreamwalker. "I was certainly not Scooby Dooing anything!"

But the woman wasn’t done, quickly shifting to list a series of names, names that the blonde recognized, as she claimed that Dayeon had been left on her lonesome. "I didn’t even know she was in the camp, she never told any of us! Not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’m definitely no fucking mind reader and—while I'd love to—I still can't predict the fucking future either!" Hands balled into tight fists at her side, the nails quietly digging into the softer flesh of her palms as the blonde attempted—poorly—to keep her own emotions from overflowing.

In any other moment she would have chuckled at Freya’s attempt of a joke, but as things stood the knightess delivery fell flat on the floor as it was ignored—red eyes glistening with a myriad of unvoiced emotions and thoughts staring right into Lune’s as she asked her final question.

I thought you would understand her, understand me... You, Val, of all people."
"I can’t understand anything if she won’t talk to me, Lune… though she doesn’t seem to have an issue when it’s Yu."

Her face had turned away as she finished speaking, eyes concentrating on a random spot in the ground as she fought to ignore the prockling sensation around the corners of her eyes or the way her vision blurred. She heard the exchange between both women, was aware of the steps as the steel reaver walked towards the house before the front door finally shut behind the woman as she entered the space.

”Valeria…” The knightess words were calm, a sharp contrast to the heated exchange between the blonde and the blue-haired players. A gloved hand rose to her face, the back of it wiping at her eyes, before a cracked voice finally responded back to Freya. "... w-what?"

She hadn’t meant to fly off the handle and push Lune’s buttons, and a small part of her hoped that had been the same for the steel reaver, but unfortunately things never seemed to go right whenever the elf came into this particular dreamspace. Freya’s words, kind and patient, reminded Val of her nonna for the briefest of moments—giving the knightess a small nod to show she was listening as they spoke.

"I know…" A deflated sigh escaped her lips as Lúthien finally looked up to the Immortal Heroine, a reddish hue coloring the sclera of her eyes as they glistened once more. " But what else can I do when all she does is push me away, Freya?"

"But what else can I do when all she does is push me away, Freya?"

"Sit down."

There was already a bench behind them, on which Freya already sat, tapping to the left side for the elf to sit. "Remember the last time we met, Valeria? When I asked you to try and understand her?" Trying to calm Luthien down, she ruffled through the archer's hair slowly while giving context on Dayeon, Lune, and her own actions. "Dayeon—We realize that no one would ever understand us."

"We always have kept people at arms' length, and it looks like nothing will change that."
The woman shook her head.

"The one time she let someone too close, she made a mistake. It was fine, really, everyone makes mistakes." She referenced the events on Vikform, Lubeck, and even that call in the real world. "But even when all was forgiven and everything was nice again, it didn't change the fact that she hurt someone badly." Touching the elf's hand, the blonde patiently explained.

Only pain will come to those who stay close to them.
KYwTvZx.png

"Couldn't live with that, this place was a nightmare for a period of time." The knight sighed, motioning through the space, implying the dreamspace was in a worse condition before Lune came. "Maybe we don't need help," Her left hand moved to Luthien's face, slowly touching her right cheek before pinching it softly, her face sporting a sad smile that was identical to Dayeon's as the red stars' lights fell on her.

"Maybe weDayeon Song doesn't deserve to be helped."

"Sit down."

Where once she would’ve gasped in surprise now the elf wasn’t taken aback upon seeing the bench that had already materialized behind them, the knightess sitting down before Freya patted the empty space beside her for the ranger to come and join her. Such things were common in dreamspaces, expanse worlds capable of unimaginable things with the right creativity and will power. She was quiet as her steps took her closer, her gaze casted downwards as she listened to the older woman’s words.

Fingers softly ruffled through the golden strands of hair upon her head, the strands having been freed of their prison once the ponytail had become a mess during her fight with Lune. It reminded Lúthien of the times Moonsong would do the same, the brunette often playing with those sunkissed strands whenever she was pensive.

Hands balled into small fists atop her lap as Freya referenced recent events, while she had certainly meant every word spoken to Dayeon the blonde couldn’t deny a part of her still hurt whenever she remembered their time in Lübeck. Terrible place really, and most of the people within the city hadn't really earned the favor of the ranger—if the town was ever in real danger Lúthien was sure she’d simply watch it burn into the ground.

"Couldn't live with that, this place was a nightmare for a period of time." Crimson eyes finally turned to gaze about the dreamspace and, while it certainly didn’t resemble the one she’d first stumbled upon so many months ago, at least the rain had finally let up within the space and new stars had slowly been reforming in its sky. "Maybe we—Dayeon Song doesn't deserve to be helped."

"No," There wasn’t an ounce of hesitation as the blonde finally found her words once more, her gaze turning back to Freya just as the knightess reached to pinch her cheek softly. "That’s a lie."

Sure the woman had made a mistake, perhaps more than Valeria even knew, but in the end she was merely human—and the blonde knew well that she wasn’t free of mistakes to judge those of her friend. She stared right into the woman’s cerulean gaze—had Freya’s eyes always been so blue?—as she spoke, before a heavy sigh escaped the girl’s lips.

"Sure, there’s people that don’t deserve to be helped or saved even—" She wasn’t a naive child that still believed in fairy tales after all, that sweet innocence shattered so long ago that the blonde couldn’t even remember how it’d felt to believe in them in the first place. A hard learned lesson that was delivered at a very young age, only made worse given that her teacher was the one person in the world that should’ve done everything in their power to protect instead of break her. "—but that’s not Dayeon."

"Sure, there’s people that don’t deserve to be helped or saved even, but that’s not Dayeon."

The blonde just sighed at Luthien's insistence. She untied her high ponytail and started to play with the elf's hair, trying to tie them up the way it was before.

"Then prove that I'm wrong. That people could be changed,"
She calmly challenged her. By her tone, one could tell that she really wanted to believe it. It was her experience that said otherwise. "Show Lune. Hold her hands. Tell Dayeon you'll go through hell with her." The knight then finished tying up the dream invader's ponytail, flicking the bundle of hair a few times.

"But so just you know, I'm on their side. I will not let you walk this broken path."

She stood up and stretched before turning to the elf while reminding her, smiling lightly as two familiar voices gradually replaced each other.

"After all, what kind of an older sister am I if I do, Val?"

Her eyes closed as Freya continued to untangle and brush the sunkissed strands of hair, enjoying the calming effect the motions had as the older woman carefully remade the ranger’s high ponytail. "Then prove that I'm wrong… Show Lune... Tell Dayeon you'll go through hell with her." She was silent, her focus on the words spoken by the knightess and the clear meaning behind them—the challenge not missed as a faint smile pulled one side of her lips into a faint smirk.

"I won't just hold her hand as we go through hell Freya," She felt the blonde giving her ponytail the final touches, her head angling just enough so that crimson gaze could stare back at the woman as she spoke. "I’d made sure Hades themselves trembled with fear if they dared to harm her."

"... I'm on their side, I will not let you walk this broken path." Her gaze followed the knightess as she stood, watching her intently as the elf seemed to study every small detail of her face as she committed them to memory. "After all, what kind of an older sister am I if I do, Val?"

"Yeah… I won’t be able to change your mind on that," She had learned more than she could've expected or hoped by simply being here tonight, and it was clear by now this was a point that neither would budge their stance on. Lúthien understood from where Dayeon’s concern rose out of, but that didn’t meant she had to agree or accept it. "But that choice is only mine to make, and no one can take that right away from me…"

The sentence lingered for a few moments, elven eyes still focused on the familiar face as Lúthien stood up as well. A hand quietly reached for the other’s, clasping it gently as she gave the woman an earnest smile. "Not even you, unnie."
