I am going to regret this.

The thought keeps going through Ash's mind as he checks his things. Sword, stamina, magic... there's been little to do on his "shifts" online, so the body's in decent shape, but the mind? Well, he's standing here waiting for a very loud woman to come fight him, in what is a very optional fight for the right to... make the loser take a bite of a weird mushroom.

Maybe it's the tedium getting to him. Maybe it's some way of paying homage to the character that was Ash, in a game long since lost to time. Something like this would have been normal for that character - hell, that "Ash" would have been one of the first on board for it. He could be getting a little too deep in the role...

...or maybe he's just hoping that the loud, bat-winged woman will be a little quieter after a good spar. Regan seems to have two volumes, and her favorite one is loud enough to reach even the back carriage of the caravan. He's spent a few shifts with a throbbing headache, and the noise has not helped. God damn these Caenis senses....

"Win or lose, lets make this a good one," he says to the woman with a quick bow. Then he draws his sword and focus, and his expression sharpens. The focus spins behind him, the runic eyes glowing red. "Let's begin!"

"HAHAHA! MY FIGHTS ARE ALWAYS GOOD! MAKE SURE NOT TO DIE ON ME!"

Reaching into her scabbard, Regan pulled her bone-handled katana, Usurper's Edge from her scabbard.

"CARMILLA!"

From within her chest, as if she were pulling out a blade impaled within her sternum. Now with a blade in each hand, Regan was ready for battle.

"GO!"

Charging forward savagely, Carmilla leapt from Regan's hand and shot forward and began spinning, its liquid blade revolving like a buzz saw.

"HAHAHA! I HOPE YOU CAN DODGE! NOT SURE HOW USEFUL YOU'RE GOING TO BE ON THE EXCURSION WITHOUT AN ARM! THOUGH I FIGURE ONE OF OUR HEALERS CAN ATTACH IT WITHOUT TOO MUCH TROUBLE!"

As Carmilla made its way towards Ash, Regan continued her charge with her Katana in hand ready to strike simulations. It was a pincer attack between Carmilla, Regan's magic blood-bladed sword, and Regan.

Hemomancy is new to Ash. He can't help but balk as Regan rips a blade of blood from her chest, and wrinkles his nose at the coppery smell that follows. Combined with Regan's volume he can't avoid being disoriented by the sensation. He barely tracks the blood blade's path behind him, but he knows its there, and he knows he can't fight on two fronts on his own.

It's fortunate that he's not exactly alone, then.

"Spirits, hear my call! Shield me from harm!"

He raises his blade in a guided motion, bringing his longsword up in time to clash with Usurper's Edge. It seems at first as if he's ignoring the bloody blade spinning towards him entirely - but then the runestone flares to life. Ghostly hands emerge from it and grasp at Carmilla, entangling the blade like a net before it can land true.

"Looks like we both have friends," Ash says, the quip coming out in spite of his dignity. There's no time to regret his words, however - he's already moving into the next motion, shifting his sword in the hopes that he can free it up for a return strike.

"HAH! NOT BAD!"

The return strike is about to make contact with her body when suddenly Regan reaches out and grabs the blade stopping it with her bare hand. Blood gushes from the deep wound though her hand stays intact.

"NOT BAD AT ALL! HAHA! YOU KNOW WHEN YOU CHALLENGED ME I THOUGHT YOU JUST WANTED TO DIE OR SOMETHING, BUT YOU DO HAVE SKILL DON'T YOU! HAHAHA! WELL ALRIGHT THEN!"

Attempting to keep hold of Ash's blade with one with one hand, Regan raises the other holding her katana.

"I'M ACTUALLY CURIOUS AS TO WHAT YOU'LL DO NOW! HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DODGE THIS ONE? I'LL TEACH YOU A QUICK LESSON ABOUT MY MAGIC WHILE WE'RE HERE. THE MORE I BLEED, THE STRONGER I GET, AND THE MORE YOU BLEED... HAHAHA, THE STRONGER I GET!"

Regan's swing continued on its path as the woman's eyes looked excitedly at the man.

"If there's one thing I'm not doing, it's dying."

Ash's eyes widen as Regan simply catches the blade, apparently heedless of pain or damage. He hopes that it means that she has pain reduction on. The idea that someone could be that... that hardcore is concerning. Sure, it's blood magic, but...

Terrasphere draws all sorts.

"Fucking hell," he hisses as the katana hits, cutting past cloth and digging into flesh. He winces as pins-and-needles spread from the point of contact, and he pulls backwards, trying to ignore the way both blades have to pull through flesh to do so.

"Cast from hitpoints, then? Right. I can work with this." He takes a breath, trying to refocus. "Spirits, hear my call!"

Energy wisps around his injury, and he shivers from the chill as the wound slowly closes and the numbness fades. He straightens up and flicks the blood off his sword. "If blood makes you stronger... I'll just make sure you can't get to it. Spirits!"

There's a rush of cold as a formless shape leaps from Ash's focus, one that aims for Regan's bleeding hand in an attempt to...

...heal it?

"So you're going to heal me to attack me? HAHAHA! WHAT THE HELL KIND OF STRATEGY IS THAT? HEAL ME TO DEATH! HAHAHAHA! IF YOU KEEP HEALING ME I'LL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT, YOU KNOW THAT RIGHT! IS YOUR BRAIN OKAY?! HAHAHAHA!"

Regan looked at her blood hand that was now beginning to sew itself shut.

"Even if you try and cut me off from my blood magic, THE GASH ISN'T HEALING FAST ENOUGH!"

Clenching her fist, allowing the blood to pool in her palm, Regan flung the blood at Ash. As the droplets hit the air, Regan smiled. Suddenly the droplets formed into long hardened spines that flew towards Ash. As the spines flew forward Regan once again began to charge at the man.

"YOU'RE MOVE! LET'S SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO! HAHAHA! BETTER THINK FAST, BECAUSE I'M COMING FOR YOU AND YOUR LITTLE SPIRITS TOO! HAHAHA!"

"Stem the bleeding and there's still damage underneath," Ash barks back, pulling his hand away from his injury. The numbness is manageable now, but it's -

Fwip!

He recoils as the spines sink in, sending a fresh wave of numbness through his body. It takes everything he can to fight against the pain reduction's control, and even more to not try and rip them out and cause even more bleeding to occur. He looks at Regan, mind catching up to his ears, and-

A wicked witch quote? Seriously? He resists the urge to slap his face mid-combat, and instead answers Regan's charge with his own... and a reference of his own, for good measure.

"Did you know clerics aren't supposed to shed blood?" He says, lifting his sword. He's no bludgeoning expert, but every part of a metal sword can be a weapon. "So instead of swords, they use clubs - you can do a lot to a person and never break skin!"

He brings the hilt downwards towards Regan, aiming to land an improvised blow.

The hilt of Ash's sword strikes true knocking Regan's arm out of socket before she could make an attack. Leaping backward, the woman smiled as grabbed her shoulder in her hand and forced the arm back into place.

"HAHAHA! NICE HIT, NOT ENOUGH TO TAKE ME DOWN BUT NOT SO BAD."

Regan mused for a moment as she massaged her shoulder.

"NEVER CARED MUCH FOR BLUDGEONING WEAPONS. NOT MY THING. I GET YOU CAN CRUSH SOMEONE AND ALL THAT BUT DOESN'T REALLY HELP MY BLOOD MAGIC MUCH. SLASHING WEAPONS ARE JUST SO MUCH BETTER FOR A REAL NICE GORE SPLATTER, KILL."

Laughing, Regan continued.

"BESIDES THE MORE GORE THE BETTER! HAHAHA, I LOVE IT WHEN THE ENEMY'S EYES GO WIDE LIKE THEY CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY'RE SEEING! HAHAHA, LIKE THEY JUST REALIZED THEY'RE GOING TO DIE GRUESOMELY!"

Crouching low, Regan charged forward. With a blade in each hand, Regan reached Ash and would begin to swing heavily downward with both of her swords.

"LET'S SEE HOW YOU HANDLE THIS!"

"Do you ever stop shouting?"

If he's getting any practice from this, it's practicing how to deal with his overly-sensitive hearing. He backs off a bit as Regan wrenches her shoulder back into the socket - he can't help but wince at the sound of it snapping into place. It's an opportunity he should have taken, but it's too late to regret that.

"You sound like a teenager that watched Chain Saw Massacre and made it their entire personality," he growls, bringing up his sword to clash with Regan's two blades. The sheer force is enough to push him back, but it isn't long before he has aid, a spirit breaking away from the runestone to tangle around Regan's legs.

Finding ways to attack without slicing may be a little tough, but there's ways. And if those ways include such underhanded things as using his stupidly tall height to swing a knee-strike to Regan's gut? Well, all's fair in war.

"I'll stop shouting WHEN YOU START FIGHTING! HAHA IS THIS ALL YOU'VE GOT?! HAHAHA IF I SOUND LIKE A MONSTER, YOU SOUND LIKE SOME PRINCE CHARMING KNOCK-OFF! WHERE'S YOUR CINDERELLA FAIR PRINCE? HAHAHA, LET ME ASK YOU THIS, WOULD YOU FIGHT HARDER IF THERE WERE A PRINCESS WATCHING YOU? PATHETIC!"

Regan pushed down on her blades with all her strength hoping to break through Ash's guard. Suddenly, the vampire bat woman felt something tickling her legs.

"HAHAHA, IS THIS YOUR BEST? GETTING YOUR PET SPIRIT TO TRY AND TRIP ME!"

It was then Regan noticed Ash's knee coming towards her gut. With no time to dodge, Regan simply flexed her abdomen and reinforced her stomach with blood magic. As the knee into contact with Regan, it would have felt like kneeing a wall.

"I'LL GIVE YOU A LITTLE TIP ABOUT BLOOD MAGIC, IT'S NOT SO ESOTERIC AS THE OTHER MAGICS. MORE THAN ANYTHING IT'S TIED TO THE BODY, IT'S PHYSICAL, WHICH MEANS WHEN UTILIZED TO STRENGTHEN THE BODY FOR DEFENSE, ABSORBING A BLOW LIKE THAT IS NOTHING! HAHAHAHA! WHY DON'T YOU TICKLE ME WHILE YOU'RE AT IT?!

Having absorbed the blow, Regan kicked at the spirit by her feet. As she did, Regan pulled back the blade in her left hand and attempted to slash horizontally hoping to score a deep cut across Ash's arm and chest.

Ash is caught off guard by Regan's defense. It leaves his knee stinging and his guard down, in time for Regan's sweeping attack. There's a loud screeching noise as it slices through his jacket and scrapes across the chain just underneath - a glancing blow more to his pride than his health.

The noise is enough to stun Ash, though, and he staggers backwards, hands instinctively going for the side of his head while his ears go flat. His sword clatters to the ground as he recovers, and with his ears still ringing he scowls up at the woman.

"Yes, thank you for the lesson, Miss Regan," he growls, and then, ignoring his sword entirely, he goes for probably the most basic attack in the book. Unguided by the auto-system, or really anything other than his own frustrations, Ash charges Regan and swings a fist for her face.

"Now we're talking..."

Regan grins as she watches Ash charge in for his attack.

"FINALLY SHOWING SOME GRIT DEAR PRINCE? HAHAHA!"

Instead of attempting to block, Regan uses the same technique as before strengthening her jaw to take the incoming blow.

"I'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER FREE ONE JUST LIKE BEFORE, HAHAHAHA! LET'S SEE IF YOU CAN DO BETTER THIS TIME!"

Holding out her chin Regan let Ash's fist plow into the side of her face. It was a good strong hit and even with her blood magic defending her, Regan cheek caught up against her tooth cutting the inside of her mouth. Spitting out the blood, Regan smiled.

"SHOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN SO CLOSE! DIDN'T YOU KNOW? VAMPIRES HAVE TEETH!"

Placing her arm inside of Ash's Regan would push the man's fist away from her face while lunging towards Ash's neck.

"LET'S SEE WHAT YOUR BLOOD TASTES LIKE!"

Opening her mouth, Regan moved to drive her two fangs into Ash's throat.

"Call me a fucking prince again, I dare you!"

Ash struggles to pulls back as numbness from his failed swing spreads up his arm. Without the guidance of the auto-combat system, his entire demeanor is different. He moves less like a seasoned fighter and more like a gangly teen who hasn't figured out all his limbs yet.

Which, in a way, isn't too far from the truth.

Ash doesn't have enough time to react as Regan digs her fangs into his neck, and he yelps despite the lack of true pain. Not even the pain limiter can drown out the sheer animal instinct when it comes to an attack on such a vital region. But if there's one thing that comes with having her straight up biting him, it means he doesn't have to worry about closing the gap.

"You are way too into this, you screeching harpy!" Ash reaches for Regan's neck with his free hand in a grappling motion, and simultaneously throws all his weight into an impromptu attempt at a chokeslam.

Why am I so angry? I'm never this angry.

The thought feels small and far away.

Regan grins as Ash grabs her throat.

"LET'S SEE WHAT YOU GOT!"

Instead of attempting to wrench free from Ash's attack, Regan goes with it allowing the man to slam her down hardening her back with her blood magic. As Ash follows through with his chock slam, Regan would attempt to bear hug the man and cling to him tightly so he would be forced to fall with her. If the maneuver works, Regan would bring herself as close as she could to Ash's ear while attempting to squeeze the life out of Ash.

"Harpy? Can't you tell the difference between a vampire and a harpy? Or are you so new to this world that knowing what you're actually fighting is beyond you? I pity you... DEAR PRINCE!"

The phrasing of Regan's words was taunting, malicious, like a snake antagonizing its prey.

"DON'T GET ME WRONG, TEARING THINGS APART WITH MY BARE HANDS IS A FAVORITE HOBBY OF MINE, BUT DON'T YOU THINK THIS HAS GONE ON FOR LONG ENOUGH?! HAHAHA, LET'S END THIS! CARMILLA!"

Regan's blood blade exploded into liquid escaping the grasp of Ash's spirits then quickly reformed in the air. Suddenly, the blade shot forward on a path to not only impale Ash from behind but Regan as well. If Regan's grapple worked, her plan was to skewer the both of them together.

"I will shove enough mushroom down your throat to choke a yak, you shit-eating gaki."

Lost in anger, Ash doesn't pay attention to his surroundings as he struggles against Regan's grip. His EN is depleted from what's already been a long few hours, and what he has left is being spent inefficiently in what's devolved into a muddy brawl. He doesn't notice Regan's second blade rising into position, ready to strike.

The spirits behind him do. The runestone spins, hands reaching out in an attempt to interrupt the blade on its downward path, but they tear apart like tissue paper. The most they can do is divert the path, ensure it doesn't pierce something vital-

Schlick.

He doesn't register what's happened, doesn't recognize the prickling numbness radiating from the point of impact, doesn't know why he's suddenly seized up to the point he can no longer move. For someone who's played Terrasphere long enough to die once, he's had very few severe injuries. He doesn't even have the ability to pull away with it skewering the both of them together.

"GAME, SET, AND MATCH! HAHAHA! YOU DID WELL, I'M IMPRESSED! MAYBE YOU'RE MORE OF A WARRIOR THAN A PRINCE AFTER ALL!"

Regan snapped and her blood sword, Carmilla dissipated into liquid blood.

"I didn't try and strike any vital points on you so that wound should heal up fine."

Regan chuckled, then began laughing.

"STILL, I DIDN'T EXPECT YOU TO COME AT ME WITH YOUR FISTS! HAHAHAHA! I REALLY PISSED YOU OFF DIDN'T I?! GOTTA BE CAREFUL ABOUT THAT. GETTING SO ANGRY THAT YOU LOSE YOURSELF IS A GOOD WAY TO DIE! YOU NEED TO HARNESS THAT ANGER! HONE IT LIKE A BLADE! USE IT BUT DON'T LET IT BLIND YOU! HAHAHA, AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I DO!"

Picking herself up, Regan dusted off her dress. MIT healers were coming to check on both herself and Ash to make sure there wouldn't be any lasting injuries. After all, the excursion was still in full swing and every one was needed in as best a shape as possible.

As the sword dissipates, spirit energy flows to fill the hole left behind and stem the bleeding. The feeling of flesh knitting to flesh was more uncomfortable than the numbness as he rolls onto his back, staring up at the sky. The anger bleeds out of his system with the adrenaline, and the first cold finger of sanity touches upon his thoughts.

"Ugh... you fight as loud as you yell."

He covers his face with one arm, groaning. Everything's numb, and what isn't pain enough to be numbed is sore, and he's still not entirely sure why he'd agreed to all of this in the first place, or what had come over him in the first place. He knew he'd regret agreeing to this whole 'fight club' business.

...but his heart's still racing with excitement, and something that feels vaguely like pride flutters in his chest. That he'd held out so long, even when the odds were against him...

A healer helps him to his feet and fusses angrily over the piercing wound. He mumbles apologies, then looks up at Regan. "...good fight," he says, with a weak smile. "Wouldn't want to be the one on the other end of you being serious."

He doesn't have the chance to say much else before the healers drag him off to the medical wagon.
