Operation: Siren Silence
Cycle 0

Arcia had spun five times since the proclamations of King Astor and the explanations of Accelerator. Five times the Sun and the Moon had swapped positions, stars spinning over a sky that at times revealed them and at times drowned them, while the Starcalled relaxed where they could, trained where they could, and prepared where they could. Much had been done to refortify Camp Hope after the destruction of the DEAD.naught, but those defenses still paled in comparison to those great walls from before. It made sense, however. Whereas the Camp had once been a site where a siege would soon be endured, now, it was a camp in the truest sense, a short stop before carriages laden with supplies made their push into Vintergard properly, to set up a new forward camp.

Already, other squads under the orders of Accelerator had peeled off into that Magia-infected city, leaving but one last squad awaiting instructions in the camp: the members of Operation Siren Silence, composed of only the deadliest Immortals under the banner of Astorea.

@Schilva Flasch, the fastest man alive, sought to break into yet another dimension in speed today.

Cepheid, the Photoprophet (@Jester), stood bundled up from head to toe once more, to witness the encroaching of an epoch.

@Nyancy, that lion-faced valiant, remained fearless, perhaps even excited, at the face of taming these riotous steeds of steel.

@Madison Freebird, Sheriff of the Pride, was as cool as ever, her iron on her hip and her gaze trained towards the tribulations of the near-future.

@Jin, the Sovereign of Demon-Blood, observed and calculated, forever drawn to the allure of terrible risk and glorious reward.

@Plutopia persisted as well, an unidenfitiable blob of gray that must have been someone and yet remained no one.

@Valmont and @Aerial too, individuals of such professional confidentiality that only the reverberations of their great deeds could be felt by the common layman, stood, facing down yet another challenge to place upon their list of accomplishments.

And, facing such an illustrious crew, was a herd of Magi-steeds, their sinuous chasses glimmering in the light of morning as the chromatic brilliance of their magicore engines pulsated within their exposed chests. An explosive heat, so contrary to the cold autumn air, exuded from each of these ironclad beasts, and they snorted at the sight of their masters, crystalline eyes locking upon each and every one of them. Purpose-made as they were for transportation, a certain pride persisted yet in each Magi-steed's gaze. After all, they were made for this, for exceeding the rules of nature, but what of these flesh-bound simians, possessing organs of fats and muscle, rather than processes of silicon and carbon-fiber? One of the larger Magi-steeds neighed derisively at the dimunitive creature, but before its pseudo-personality could run too hot, a woman stepped beside it, placing a hand upon its flank.

If the light of morning made the Magi-steeds valiant, the light of morning made this young lady gorgeous. Golden eyes, framed by long lashes, caught each of their gazes in turn, as if evaluating the worth of their souls, while a smile that could only be considered a rarity in the world crested her features. Against the drab surroundings of a war camp, the finery of her mahogany-and-gold dress appeared an excessive luxury, and yet anything less eloquent than this simply could not fit her graceful figure. Yes, indeed, only gold could pair with her, the woman who stood amongst beasts of steel and pride.

Greetings, Starcalled. My name is Lady Wisteria Einhraiz Aurelion, an aide of Accelerator's. Before we begin, may I have the pleasure of knowing your names?

She waited as they introduced themselves one at a time. She would not forget their names, nor whatever titles they placed upon themselves.

As you are undoubtedly aware, these Magi-steeds are still prototypes, so I ask that you remain open-minded of their individual quirks. The pseudo-personalities implanted into them allows for independent action, allowing you to fight while they run, but unfortunately, they are as moody as you would expect beasts to be.

Wisteria's hands continued to stroke the flank of the largest of them. In her presence, at least, the Magi-steeds remained calm.

For authorization to be made, I must request that you spare a drop of your blood upon their hearts. They will metamorph afterwards, in response to whichever capability of yours that is most deeply entwined with your essence, and from that point on, you will be able to communicate with them mentally. Whether or not you'll be able to come to a satisfactory agreement is, of course, up to the social talents of the individual, but I'm certain that you all will perform admirably as riders.

Up above, a swallow swooped downwards, craft of steel but with a golden accent. It landed heavily upon the woman's shoulder, eyes blinking a steady green.

Once you are ready, please ride to the bottom of the Dragontail Trench. The operation will been shortly after. Ah, and if you'd like any assistance, or have questions regarding the nature of these Magi-steeds, or even any feedback with regards to their design, please, don't be afraid to share your thoughts with me.

Her smile surfaced once more.

As their sponsor, I would love to see them persist beyond the boundaries of war, after all.

Day was spilling out from the folds of the night. For all the ruination of Vintergard, the storm and lightning, the terror and the rage, the sky remained unaffected, a brilliant blue that was oh-so rare for this season.

It would be a good day to ride. It would be a better day to hunt.

Magi-Steed Details

These Magi-steeds were based off of the personalities of six legendary horses, enabling them to act upon their rider's instructions with little need for monitoring. However, these same personalities cause particular habits to form when moving, which may either positively or negatively affect the rider and the steed.

When selecting a Magi-steed, choose one of the below Personalities to apply to them and note it down in your Magi-steed Sheet. Note that you may name your Magi-steed whatever you wish.

  • Twin Turbo:Reckless and possessing tremendous energy, Twin Turbo releases everything immediately, and will always seek to reach the front of the pack, regardless of consequences.
    • All Out, Always: When making a Speed Check, gain a +5 bonus, which is reduced by 1 for every Cycle that passes. A bonus action can be used to cancel the reduction.
  • King Halo: Granted a soul that would not be overcome regardless of loss, King Halo runs with their head held proudly, resilient in the face of tribulation.
    • Noblesse Oblige: Speed Checks are unaffected by melee attacks received from the prior cycle. When Magi-steed HP is reduced to 0, does not damage the rider upon explosion.
  • Shinko Windy:A steed with a teasing sense of humor and an explosive fighting spirit, Shinko Windy bares their teeth with the ferocity of a lion, always happy to charge into the fray.
    • Habitual Biter: Rider's melee damage increases by +20, as the Magi-steed supports them. If not in melee range, will drop Speed in order to enter the next non-empty Zone.
  • Seeking the Pearl: Star-studded and glamorous, Seeking the Pearl is most at home in the unknown, leaping into dangers without fear and possessing an unmatched self-confidence.
    • Quixotic Wanderings: Magi-steed receives half-damage from environmental effects, and if their natural save modifier is lower than 25, roll saves with advantage instead.
  • Rice Shower: An assassin, a pursuer, Rice Shower possesses the dogged determination to follow behind her target, no matter where they may go, whether it be front, back, or center.
    • Heel or Hero?: At the Start of Combat, choose a target, whether enemy or ally. When making Speed Checks, roll three times. The one closest to the Target is selected. A bonus action must be used to set a new Target for the next cycle.
  • Mayano Top Gun:The miraculous all-rounder genius of running, Mayano Top Gun has all the faults and merits of a prodigy, capable of absolute domination...but only when they feel like it.
    • Kaleidoscopic Prodigy: Rather than making a Speed Check, roll a 1d3 instead. On a 1, their Speed is 1 above the highest Speed Check. On a 2, their Speed is 2 below the highest Speed Check. On a 3, their Speed is 3.

These Magi-steeds must intake the biometrics of their rider before they accept them upon their back. With a drop of blood (or whatever Magia bleed out), the forms of the Magi-steeds are contorted further, activating various attributes and abilities, as well as gaining a 'form that best matches the aesthetics of their rider.'

When inputting your biometrics into your chosen Magi-steed, select one Mastery to be input. In return, the Magi-steed gains...

  • HP: Matches the HP of the rider, excluding passives that give HP bonuses.
  • As One: Passive. Rider and steed are treated as one when making saves or when taking damage.
  • Guardianship: Passive. While the steed's HP is above zero, the rider is Protected.
  • Self Destruct: Passive. When the steed's HP reaches zero, the steed explodes, dealing 75 flat damage to the rider and 150 flat damage to every enemy target in the zone after a Speed Check is made.
  • Steering: Free Action. The rider can adjust the steed's Speed Check by a value of Base Movement/2, rounding up. This value takes to account passives, but not buffs or bonus actions.
  • Drafting: Bonus Action. All allies behind the steed move one Zone further.
  • ???: To be determined after a Mastery is input.

In this Challenge, mounted movement is the only way one can hope to catch up with Emergency Response. The temperamental nature of the Magi-steeds, as well as the Starcalleds' own limited experience with mounted combat, means that it's not possible to move with the same accuracy that one would with their own two feet.

As such, a Speed Check is made at the start of every cycle to determine which Zone your Magi-steed brings you to, before you are able to modulate that positioning with your bonus action. After positioning is settled, one may use remaining actions as they please to target enemies or allies within their range.

  • The dice to roll for a Speed Check is a 1d10.
  • Each melee attack you receive will reduce your next Speed Check by 1.
  • If your Magi-steed makes the highest Speed Check after applying all Magi-steed abilities, you gain infinite range for your actions on the next cycle. For the purposes of Hyper Awareness's damage buff, this means you gain a +60 damage buff. Alternatively, you can have infinite range attacks count as melee.
  • For the purposes of Momentum damage, treat your Speed Check before applying Magi-steed abilities as your Movement.
  • If your Magi-steed is destroyed, you must make a DC 80 Reflex Save to jump onto the back of someone else's Magi-steed. That individual must be within two Zones of youon the cycle before your Magi-steed was destroyed. You will no longer be Protected.
    • Failing that, someone else on the next Cycle, if they arrive within two Zones of you, can use their Action to pick you up.
    • Failing that, one of two things can happen. If you have the Speed passive, roll a 1d4 for your Speed Check and continue your turn as normal. If you do not have the Speed passive, or your Speed Check has been reduced to negatives due to melee attacks received, you are considered to be out of this challenge, but not dead.

The decadent lady asked for the "pleasure" to know their names. What a farce - what aristocrat cared about the names of silly commoners? Then again, she was pretty special; being both a star-called and flat-out awesome. That didn't stop her from wishing the pleasantries could be circumvented. She played along to speed up the process... and so "her special day" wouldn't be cut short.

"Aerial."

Indeed, today was a special day: a huge day that had been twenty-four years in the making. Palms sweaty, knees weak, arms heavy. The woman morphed into an excited, bright-eyed girl. Happy feet, balancing perfectly only tippy-toes, danced around the makeshift war camp. She looked ready to pop like an overly-inflated balloon at any given notice. Impatiently, her leg bounced while the fancy woman with the fancy-schmancy title introduced herself and briefed the group about their mission. Most of the words went in one ear and out the other, only certain keywords managing to embed themselves into her currently spastic brain.

Should she be absorbing the information more thoroughly? Yes. Should she be focused on her first serious mission within the world of Terrasphere? Absolutely. This was the game that gobbled up her teammates - her friends - yet it granted her access to a childhood daydream. She, Yeji Bae, would finally be the owner of a pony! Ponies and horses were practically the same things, right? Plus, to make it even more exciting, they were decked out like well-polished chrome racing cars.

Abundant energy manifested physically as bouncing electricity. Finally, the reins (haha) on the group were released and they were free to pick out their very own magical robo-horse. Hyped to the max, Aerial skipped forward. She wanted first dibs on her dream pony. In her hurry, she brushed up against a particular horse. Before she could react let alone apologize, the horse's metallic teeth sunk into her hand as she was physically dragged backward.

What the fuc-

"Did you seriously just bite me?"

Neither human nor horse backed down. Pfft. Aerial turned away, adamant that this particular horse wouldn't ruin her day when a hoof purposefully tripped her. Trying to stabilize herself, her injured hand accidentally touched the magi-steed's heart. Both Aerial and horse stared in horror as a droplet of blood disappeared into the previously mentioned "organ". The entire scene felt like it went in slow motion until the magi-steed erupted with the same electricity she previously exuded.

Drawing from her aeromancy mastery, the horse began to metamorph. Electricity illuminated the nervous system (or, rather, what would resemble a nervous system on a real horse) from within its metal casing. The electrical current cycled through three colors: blue, white, and light purple. Silver steel faded into a dark, purple-tinted iron. Meanwhile, air caused its mane and tail to become translucent and perpetually in a state of movement. The last feature jutted from the creature's head- a twisted and sharp dagger of a unicorn horn.

Was this the curse of her racial trait returning in full force? Dammit. She really should have read the fine print before choosing to put her fate in a single die. Neither mount nor rider made a sound, both glued to the ground, for a while. Instead, they simply stared at each other. Eventually, Aerial broke the silence with a groan,

"I hope you're happy with yourself."

Because now they were stuck together. The transformed horse let out a puff of hot air before snorting. All Aerial could do was sigh and chuckle. Well, so much for the fated day she'd waited two decades for.

A group of miscreants, to say the least.

Schilva was the most notable of them at a glance, followed by the outspoken personality of Madison Freebird, and the self-titled "Photoprophet," Cepheid who's true identity was a mystery only to those who had never met her prior to whatever rendered her mechanical. Beyond that, he showed only passing interest. The newcomer who introduced herself as Lady Wisteria Einhraiz Aurelion (a name that he would shorten heretofore to "Wisteria") began to brief them on the main tool with which they would undertake their next mission.

"Magisteeds."

He stopped for a moment to consider the implications. The Kingdom of Astorea was aware to some degree of the assimilation of organics by the Magia. Now, the MIT were playing with fire and creating mounts with that same type of morally grey technology? With a faint smirk, he had to hand it to them. If an enemy turns a weapon on you, the reasonable equal and opposite measure is to respond in kind. But didn't this tilt their hand if they were trying to be discreet?

"Jin." He gave his name with all the brevity that the request required. Fancy titles and such drew unwanted attention and ire from those around him. Not that his appearance failed to do so- most people considered the dark cloak and pale features to be "emo" or "edgy," and they made their first impressions solely based on that presentation. He couldn't be dogged into caring.

It was when the concept of metamorphosis came that Jin became most interested in the process. So, the newfound magitech steeds were capable of assimilation, as well? And they just wanted the Starfallen to trust that their intentions were less than dubious, given recent events?

His smirk grew into a wicked grin. This was exactly the type of wild gambit that slaked his thirst for adventure. A controlled experiment involving the very phenomenon he had witnessed only days before, except on a much smaller scale and with considerably less personal risk?

Perfect.

He chose the steed from the grouping that had the most malleable temperament. One that spurned conflict and confrontation and kept its attention squarely ahead, on the task at hand. The undaunted "King Halo," which when offered a single drop of his corrupted blood, began to writhe and wither from its beautiful and elegant form into something grotesque. Black, devoid of good health and noticeably pocked with pestilence, anyone but Jin would shy away from the abomination. It turned its dejected head to look at him, the wretched master who it had been slaved to, and gave a baleful shake of its head.

Jin reached up a hand and placed it gently to the beast's elongated face, where the synthetic flesh was sloughing away but seemed to cling to exposed metal with desperation.
"There, there, my equine friend," he crooned in a low, uncharacteristically velveteen voice to the creature in its ear. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Doin' Dandy

"Hey theyah Lady and all of yas that I don't know yet, I'm Nyancy Blade ah Hope, Beastlord Champion, and all around hero-type. Nice to meet yas."

As always, Nyancy was Nyancy and the cat had no reason not to be friendly with everyone that had decided to take up this charge. Among the crowd, Nyancy saw some familar faces. @Schilva Flasch who she remembered being some of a pain in the butt, but always a good enough guy was there. So was @Aerial whom Nyancy had recently met at her hero-training camp.

"Looks like weah all be workin' tahgetha on this mission, eh? Looks like a solid crew ah whateva. Lookin' fowahd to workin' with yas!"

Having introduced herself and greeted everyone, Nyancy listened intently to the woman talk about the magi-steeds they would be riding into battle. Honestly, this was pretty exciting to Nyancy. In the real world, she loved roller coasters and the thrill of taking a magical horse into combat as if it were an F-16 would be a hard to beat thrill.

When released from the conversation to pick their steed, Nyancy would take her time. This wasn't just some machine they would be riding into combat, the magisteed chosen would be a partner, something you had to put your trust in. Walking forward, Nyancy eyed each one individually.

"All of yas got different strengths, huh? Hmmm..."

Suddenly, Nyancy stopped. Looking at the horse in the eye, Nyancy scratched her chin.

"Youah dangerous. But ya also got a lotta potential don't yas? Still, ya also look like ya only work hard when ya feel like it."

Nyancy grinned.

"Remind me of me back in tha old days. Ya know, back then I didn't do much cept what I felt like. Now I still do what I feel like, but I just figuyad I felt like bein' a hero, so that's what I'm doin' now. Maybe it's tha same fah you? Ya gotta find yaself ah dream or ah goal and run fah it. Maybe we can even figyah out what ya want tah be tahgetha?"

Nyancy patted the magisteed.

"Yah, I'll put my trust in ya. Just meet me half way and do tha same fah me ah whateva."

Nyancy turned to the group.

"I'll be takin' this one. Mayano Top Gun was it?"

Nyancy whispered to the horse as she bit her thumb deep enough to draw blood.

"Let's show 'em what we can do, Mayano."

Feeding a drop of her blood the horse, the magisteed began to change. The silver sheen dissolved into a matte white as though the whole creature were made of pristine angelic marble save for small trims of orange, the same color as Nyancy's Beastlord Champion aura.

"Now wea talkin'!"

As the metamorphosis ended, Nyancy looked up at her new steed, shining in the sunlight. Nyancy smiled. It was a steed worthy of a hero.

Eight yees out of haw

Try as she might, Madison couldn't see herself as a horse girl.

Not, like, a horse girl in a fashion that she supposed most of the players who populated this world would define such a thing: Normal, sane people called those centaurs. Some who snacked on tasty delicious paint chips on the regular might try and mumble out "minotaurs"; but those are bull-themed, not horse-themed.

No--Madison couldn't see herself as a horse girl in the fashion that... Horses were their whole fuckin' identity. Favorite movies: Black Beauty and Spirit. More posters of ponies on their childhood walls than actual visible wallpaper or paint. Galloped in gym class instead of ran. Always went to riding camp during the summer months. Had an unnatural dislike of violin bows, glue, and Jell-O.

Yet here she was. Two pieces short of being a proper Old West Cowboy(tm). The first was a badge, which would come in due time as she kept doing her job for the Lions. The second? Was staring right back at her, with eyes as cold and dead as her own.

Maybe giving it a drop of her own blood wasn't the best idea.

"Sheriff Freebird," she said to Lady Aurelion, doing her best to tear her gaze from the abyss long enough for it to be considered polite. "Sheriff Madison Freebird, of the Lions." It was going to take her a moment to remember what the hell they changed their name to.

The gunslinger tried not to think about the irony of the situation, what with all the robot horses of questionable origins that were being given a test drive. Madison had only just returned to the game after trying to sort out all of the insurance paperwork after her bookstore burned down; this was not the time for silly things like ethics! They had a job to do, a patrol squad to turn into scrap. And goddammit, Madison loved nothing more than to be told where to aim the barrels of her six-shooters, and with how much hate to pull the triggers. Leave the thinking to those who have to live with the ramifications once she logs back out.

It wasn't long before she saw a familiar face among the assembled squad. She led her horse by the bridle, the black chrome of the beast glistening in the sun with each step it took. "Well hell," she said to @Jin with her finest exaggerated drawl, "if it ain't my favorite Final Fantasy big bad."

Cynna

Guest
The grey amorphous blob, full of potential and mystery gradually coalesced into a hooded figure wearing a splitter-camo poncho for urban combat. She hadn't given off much of an impression because deep down, Cynna, wanted more than anything to be a cool woman of mystery. The jury was out to lunch on coolness, but she was maybe a little mysterious, because probably nobody except one person knew who she was.

***

"Oh baby <3! Finally! We're goin' to war!"

Cynna couldn't help but contain her giddy excitement when the briefing was over. Cynna was many things, Terrasphere tourist, self-proclaimed self-stylized legendary mercenary, and most of all, kind of a dumbass. More than any of that though, Cynna was Rock n' Roll.

Cynna was wearing a blazer, shirt, and tie, and with a skirt which was either fashionable or "fashionable" depending on one's tastes. She also had a hooded poncho which she'd lowered to reveal two great rabbit ears. In one hand, was an arcanamancy briefcase, which was her summon. Her eyes were stars, she was practically drooling. This was what Terrasphere was all about!

"So, I don't hear Mariah Carrey, but I can tell it's already Christmas because hot damn I finally got that pony. Like I can't stop winning~ Heh heh heh. And now you're telling me I get my pick of the litter? Ace custom prototypes too?! Is it gonna turn red?! Hahaha! Tell me it goes three times faster, it's been a long week, I need this."

Rubbing her hands together and talking to everyone or maybe no one, Cynna's eyes scanned her options until they fell upon one that seemed permanently affixed to the corner of her vision.

"Rice Shower? That totally sounds like a mission op. Is she the awesome stealth horse? As a cool spy slash mercenary hero myself, It's gotta be her. She's already got the metal gears in my heart churning; this here's my baby. There~ There~ Rice Shower, don't be shy, deep down we're both a couple'a shadows chasing something further than the horizon. Mama's gonna get you there."

Cynna smiled gently stroking her claimed Rice Shower model with a nearby polishing rag. Then, she offered Rice Shower, the Silent Assassin, her blood. Presumably accepted and climbing on, Cynna turned to the rest of the gang.

"Sorry, I was having a bit of an episode there! Real talk though blood brothers and sisters, I never expected to kick the whole bucket list in one go. This here, is destiny. Nice to meet everyone, I'm Cynna, my accuracy is shit, but I just don't quit. Yeah... I'm still working on that line, but erm... I've got the suppressive fire covered so just tell me where to shoot."

Cynna gave a very enthusiastic salute.

As she did so Rice Shower turned a bluish grey dappled with white and black. It was the color band of the horizon, that only bloomed in the odd hours between day and night.

PUMPED UP | LET'S GO, TWIN TURBO KAI NI!

Shrouded in shadows at the very back of the ragtag squad of riders-to-be is a figure already more than familiar to a few members present, though not to Lady Aurelion or those who had the fortune of not being aware of their existence until now.

After each member of the congregation before him made their brief and utilitarian introductions, Schilva swaggers up from his repose to flagrantly demonstrate his complete ignorance of etiquette and tact in dealing with proper nobility.

HEAR YE, ALL! BEFORE YOU NOW IS SCHILVA FLASCH, EVIL-RENDING BLADE!

Swatting a palm to his own chest without a care in the world as he loudly proclaims his name and title for all to hear, Schilva only pauses long enough for Lady Aurelion to explain the bare minimum of what the beasts before them were and how to handle them before yammering on.

Such fortune it is to have someone so well versed as I to guide our vanquishing of our foes, is it not?! But of course, it is natural to seek aid from the pioneer of the Godspeed Slash, Divine Kengo, so on so forth, SCHILVA FLASCH!

Repeating himself once over, Schilva struts his way to the magitech steeds and makes a beeline for steed that held the most intimidating stature.
While he could not care less about what technical workings and magical mumbo-jumbo went into the development of these unprecedentedly advanced creations, Schilva took to heart the advice of choosing his companion carefully; his time spent in silence had been for this purpose.
Still and rhythmically huffing heavily through its chrome-plated nostrils, the beast radiated a calm superiority that Schilva felt an instant kinship with. It was obvious why nobody else had chosen this particular steed!

You, Twin Turbo. I've had my eye on you for a while now, you who the others fear to even look over! Serve me, worthy steed, and we shall ride to victory together! What say you? Take of my blood, my greatness, my glory!

Nicking his thumb just a little with the edge of his blade and smearing a surprisingly legible signature onto the steed's thudding heart, Schilva steps back and watches with satisfaction as his steed begins to stir and absorb the essence of his unmatched speed.

-

...wuh-huh-what?

Aha! That must be the mental link kicking in. Greetings, my tr-

WHAT'S HAPPENING WHAT'S GOING ON HUHHHHH I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS

-

Rearing up and whinnying, it was at this point that it would become clear that the steed Schilva had chosen, whose hide now sparkled with a garish chrome coat, whose mane lengthened and flowed with the same annoyingly dazzling finish, whose hooves were now elevated with a popup internal movement supplementation wheel each...

...had been enjoying a nice upright nap all along.

"Cepheid the Photoprophet, but just Cepheid is fine." Jester wasn't necessarily upset about having to put on what was essentially a personality costume against her will, but not being able to tell anyone about it was pretty awful. That sort of squirming itch in the chest you get when you're excited about something and you want to tell someone, anyone, all about it. She couldn't actually feel it, but the phantom sensation of it drawn from her still jumbled array of memories was vivid enough to recall it for some length of time.

Not that she gave it too much of her attention. She was never truly the dramatic sort. Flair was certainly in her corner, though. Once everyone was free to take the reigns of their magi-steed, she paused and waited patiently with her staff planted in the ground in front of her. Once fate had picked her partner for her, hardly even a moment passed before she went from standing in wait to offering the steed her hand within. The tip of her finger even dripped a blue, viscous fluid one might think of as ectoplasm right into its core.

"I'd love to be your partner, if you would humor being mine." Jester took the time to pet the mechanical horse down the straight of its skull, feeling perhaps more of a kinship than each of the other eager and telepathically linked riders. She could feel that its spirit was much like her own, and that its core was just as alive as her own. Together, they would deny defeat and death both. The horse for the first time, and herself for the third now.

Horsing Around

Another day, another suicide mission brought forth. He briefly wondered why he was even here, among people of such prestigious bearing. Then he remembered the last big fight, and the body of a little girl, and his resolve steeled. He was here to make sure things like that stopped happening. Quietly he listened to the explanation, eyeing the horses with the curious eye of an enthusiast. When the time came to introduce himself, he spoke up. ”Hello, I am Valmont, I’ll be your support today. It will be a pleasure to work with you all.” When they were released to select, he held back, wondering who would go where. Until, at the end, it was only himself and Cepheid (@Jester) remaining.

Seeing that the other would wait, he went to one of the last two horses. Running his hand along the side of the mechanical beast, making his way to the front. There he felt its designation, “Rice Shower.” A unique name he wished he knew the significance of. Moving around to the front he met its eye, and could feel it watching him. A noble bearing, steadfast and reliable. Perfect for someone like him. Producing a translucent blue needle he pricked his finger, letting the black substance that passed for blood well up into a bead. Reaching into its core he pressed his thumb against its heart, leaving a black negative of his thumbprint. Quickly he withdrew his hand as the change began to take hold.

Plating shifted and twisted, becoming more sleek curves and compound angles. Silvery metal took on the golden hue of bronze edges, sheets taking on the faux polished wood-grain finish shared by his octahedron. Through the gaps in the plating it was clear the internal workings had taken on a translucent blue material, faceted plates joined together in complex mechanisms, glowing faintly with an internal light. He wondered how it knew to do that. He wondered if all of the extra material would tax his Arcanamancy, or if it was really his. He wondered if they would let him keep it. Answers he would probably never get.

Seeming pleased with the result Valmont patted it on the withers. ”Well, well. What a splendid beast you are, eh? Just don’t go throwing me, and we’ll get along fine now.” With a small hop, followed by a leap, he managed to make his way into the saddle. Once situated, he gave it a pat once more over the new name plate. Aes

Operation: Siren Silence
Cycle 1 - Dragontail Trench

Distress signal received.
Calculating route.
Route confirmed.
Sisters, advance.

It was named the Dragontail Trench, but in truth, it was a trench formed by the entirety of the Dragonship's body as it ground against the earth, its haphazard descent carving a canyon into the landscape. Only its tail had draw a 'straight' line; the oversized Magia's wings and jaw had torn and displaced the earth unevenly enough that both sides of the trench were nearly impossible to traverse swiftly. Once one entered one end of the trench, they could only exit expediently through two locations: back the way they came or onwards to the other end.

So it was, and so it had to be.

Old Fashion took point, battle-scarred chassis looming past the scorched and blasted earth that the DEAD.naught once advanced through. Azure light spilled out from her anachronistic visor as the Magia Knight marched onwards without pause, her Plasma Burst Funnels warmed up for the constant possibility of hostiles.

Hard Plume followed close behind, her crimson glare catching what Old Fashion's rudimentary sensors could not. Of a more angular design than her older sister, the horned Regulator's wheels churned deeply into the cracked earth as she kept her Displacer Cannon leveled towards all possible targets, viewing the world in shades of mana and life.

Further behind rumbled Baby Magnum, the bulbous Magia supported by six legs and armed with two main cannons and countless anti-infantry ones. Though the youngest of the three, that simply meant she was the most up-to-date model present, shedding anthromorphic versatility for sheer mobility and firepower. The age of firearms ended the age of knights, and the age of artillery ended the age of infantry lines. Warfare progressed without pause, and the Saviours simply could not understand that, no matter how many lives they lose, how many heads they've offered.

The soul can only exist once, but the brain?

Three times, at least. More, once Handler-1 has decoded the secret of Revive.

Overseer spotted.
Black box. Tampered with.
Anomaly, 300 meters above.
Likelihood of ambush, 95%.
Retreat?
No.
Let. Them. Come.

...

They had waited, waited, waited. Brewed in their uncertainty, bathed in their anxiety. Sharpened their blades and counted their bullets, all while their unfamiliar Magisteeds pawed at the ground, waiting for the meaning of their creation to be realized. A race. A chase. A hunt. The MIT had provided the bait, carving open that one Overseer that had emerged in the fight against the DEAD.naught, the only Overseer that had not exploded upon defeat. Dug into its circuitry, scrambled its credentials, and, once the key players of Operation Siren Silence were in position, activated its distress signal.

There was no certainty, in truth, that their quarry would emerge, but such calculations of probability were perhaps the forte of Accelerator. With Camp Hope IV and its surroundings now squarely in the hands of the adventurers, only a mobile unit of elites could advance far enough into the Dragontail Trench to confirm the validity of the signal. And only Emergency Response was equipped for a retreat fast enough to thwart even the swiftest Dynamicists.

The dice had been rolled. The dice would continue to be rolled.

And right as focus waned, as desires to relax and scroll through comms messages came to mind, Lady Wisteria's voice sounded through their minds, broadcasted by the Steelwinged Swallow that danced in the skies above them.

Emergency Response spotted! Godspeed, Starcalled!

The first out of the gate was the newly christened, newly evolved Twin Turbo Kai Ni, all the gentle curves shaved away from its form as the entirety of the Magisteed's form was sliced away to become a blade that slashed through space itself! Even its mane became nearly two-dimensional in nature, and it was only for the benefit of @Schilva Flasch's nether regions that there was still enough space for him to sit afterwards as wheeled hooves rip-roared through the scorched earthed.

Following quickly from behind was the miraculously beautiful Mayano Top Gun, its alabaster form giving off a near-prismatic sheen as the light struck it. With a playful buckling, it danced amongst the mounds, granting @Nyancy the roller-coaster experience she so enjoyed, before shooting off as well, pursued soon after by Shinko Windy. The bloodthirsty steed had gotten its first taste of blood, for better or worse, and now, as its core sucked in more and more air in front of it to feed the electric passions of its heart, the steelcraft beast pounded after the others with the roar of death machine, lightning crackling in its steps. As for the non-existent suspension in its frame? Well, that was @Aerial's problem to cope with.

While Shinko Windy possessed the sound of a death machine, however, Famine possessed the looks of one, despite how deathly quiet it was as it began its stately procession towards its foes. All of @Jin's genteel susurrations meant nothing to the proud beast that he had stained, for even those dying could hold onto pride and dignity still, and a true ruler was majestic even when reduced to a sloughing skeleton. For one who sought to chain the sovereign, however, one must be prepared to be chained in kind, as thorns of sanguine wrapped around the forearms of the darkly-attired swordsman, fusing with his veins. If their minds were entwined, then so too may their fates.

Rulers of different natures persisted, of course, as in the wake of that stately skeleton lurked the black chrome of King Halo, azure flames streaking off its mane and tail. Others may sally forth, but it kept itself free from the inbound melee, unaffected by the explosive temperaments of all those around it. @Madison Freebird would need such stability anyhow, to ready her shots and corral her prey. Whether in race or in chase, the coolest heads prevailed.

Or perhaps simply the most obsessive? Rice Shower and Aes galloped in sync with each other, one form of the sheen of twilight, the other possessing a steampunk exterior that masked the translucent clockwork beneath. Their respective masters, @Valmont and @Cynna both had a moment to nod, perhaps even exchange greetings, before flickers of ghostfire ignited in the eyes of their steed and they split off, pursuing the target of their fixations.

And only when all others had departed did Event Horizon follow after, possessed by a form near-incomprehensible. It had become the stuff of stars and space, a corporeal nebula rotating around the black hole of its Magitech core as it flew, ghost-like, over the ruptured terrain. With the linking of thoughts, with the joining of minds, it became perhaps the only individual to understand in full what @Jester had experienced, and, with the bombast of one who inherited the will of that globetrotting racehorse who first conquered foreign turf, it charged headlong regardless, the light bending to its will as it zoned in on its foes.

Foes that were prepared, no doubt. Foes long experienced with the art of skirmish and retreat, possessing weapons of paygrades far beyond ordinary Magia.

Foes though, that have yet to experience the sheer power of the Magisteeds.

Objectives and Mechanics
  • At the end of every cycle, the three enemies will perform their attacks.
  • Enemies share an HP bar, but possess individual SP bars.
  • From Cycle 3 onwards, enemies who do not have emptied SP bars will perform Empowered Attacks.
  • If an enemy has not received a melee attack during the Cycle, they may move one Zone to be at a more advantageous position for their attacks.
  • With Critical learned, enemies roll a 1d8 before dealing damage. On an 8, damage is doubled, and no subsequent enemies can Crit for the remainder of the cycle.
  • The Players objective is to survive and destroy the Emergency Response trio before the end of Cycle 5.

Map
  • The Map can be found here. Click and drag your character's icon to the Zone their Speed Check lands them in, and adjust from there.
  • Speed Checks can be made before your post is ready, and do not have to abide to the 'one hour' rule that applies for Action rolls.
  • If you don't have access to Google Slides, let me knowwwww.

@Aerial - Shinko Windy – Aeromancy
FALLSTREAK HOLE – Action. Perform Steering, but apply to all individuals within the Zone, moving them a number of Zones equal to Base Movement/2, including passives but excluding bonus actions and buffs. Shinko Windy can choose which ones are moved forwards and which are moved backwards.

@Jin – Famine – Hemomancy
BLOOD IS FUEL – Famine does not Protect Jin, but their HP bars are fused together. Every time 25% of Max HP is lost, can choose to deal 100 flat damage to all enemies within the current zone as a Bonus Action. If done so, reduce Max HP by 25%. When HP hits zero, Jin is ejected at 1 HP and spared the subsequent Self-Destruction.

@Nyancy – Mayano Top Gun – Weapon Arts
PERFECT CONDITION – Once Per Challenge. Mayano Top Gun gets serious. Instead of rolling a Speed Check, choose which Zone to be in. If this is Zone 10, your Speed for determining the fastest horse is considered to be Infinite. Double your MR and WR and gain an Overshield of 30 for this cycle and the next.

@Madison Freebird – King Halo – Shadow Arts
MIDNIGHT WATCH – Bonus action. King Halo summons shadowy sceptres behind it, granting boons to allies or rider. The number of sceptres equals the Speed Check made at the start of the cycle, and each sceptre can grant either a stackable +5 damage modifier, a stackable +5 Overshield, or a stackable +1 range to any ally behind King Halo.

@Cynna – Rice Shower – Shadow Arts
LET'S ELOPE – Once Per Challenge, at any time, Rice Shower can choose any of her unselected Speed Checks and transport her target and herself to the Zone in question. If the target is an enemy, increase all damage dealt to them on this turn by 20. If the target is an ally, reduce all damage dealt to them in the following damage cycle by 20.

@Schilva Flasch – Twin Turbo Kai Ni – Dynamism
SCHILVA, GO! – Once per Challenge. Must be declared before any rolls. Twin Turbo is set to Zone 1, and Schilva is flung off the Magisteed, shooting through Zone 1 to Zone 1d10. Damage dealt by Schilva this cycle is dealt to all valid targets within the range of his flight. At the end of his turn, Schilva takes Zones Traveled x 10 HP damage and is considered unmounted.

@Jester – Event Horizon – Astramancy
FUTURE BRIDGE – Action. Event Horizon folds space around it, creating a two-way warp hole between the Zone in front of it and the Zone behind it. When allies and enemies enter one of the warped Zones, they may choose to be immediately transported into the other warped Zone. When certain enemy attacks enter one of the warped Zones, there is a 40% chance that they will be sucked up and transported into the other warped Zone, thus avoiding the Zone in between.

@Valmont - Aes - Arcanamancy
STAINLESS HEART - Action. Aes, composed of Arcanamantic clockwork, swaps out its internal workings with another Magisteed within range, subsequently swapping Magisteed HP values. When this is done, recover 1d20 of Aes's HP afterwards, up to its Max HP. If the HP swapped is greater than Aes's MAX HP, gain the excess HP as Overshield.

Then maybe you can explain what's about to happen, okay everyone! Get ready for the alley oop of a lifetime! RED LEADER GOIN' IN! CALLING THE SHOT!"

Bundled with nervous excitement, Rice Shower snorted as she accelerated. Cynna patted her.

"You're a stayer, efficient, beautiful, and you have the respect to not toy with your prey... just. like. me. Let's settle this in one move!"

I knew it, Cynna grinned, as Rice Shower began to glow. Twilight was breaking into day, but it was going to be sundown for the other guy, Cynna was sure of it.

"TRANS AM!"

Rice Shower turned red, blurring into after images as it shot forward like a red comet. And thus, so did Cynna, as she clung on for dear life. They were bounding from the side of the rock face to the other like an insane bouncy ball, and then, just when they seemed to stop, they were off into hyper space.

"Hey baby~ looking for a ride? Okay~ Rice Shower~ LET'S ELOPE!"

Shoom, right next to Hard Plume now, there was a great sonic boom, as Cynna, Rice Shower, and Hard Plume were suddenly crashed right into the middle of Zone 3.

"GIVE EM HELLLLLLLLLLL!"

Cynna shouted as she revealed a heavy machine gun from her briefcase and unloaded to support her allies' attacks.

Oh, shit! Nyancy-sensei was here. She opened her mouth but was interrupted by telepathic call to arms, "Emergency Response spotted! Godspeed, Starcalled!" Aw yeah! Aaaand... action!

Thunderstruck didn't need prompting to burst forward with an ear-shattering, earth-rumbling boom of thunder. Aerial struggled to hold onto the wild ride.

"Holy shit- This is a helluva bumpy ride."

Wide eyes stared at the gigantic mechs on the horizon. Cynna hadn't been over-exaggerating about this robot apocalypse. Okay, that's not exactly what her teammate said but that was how she decided to interpret it. She saluted @Cynna,

"Orders received, Red Leader! White Strider ready to wombo with your combo!"

Thunderstruck reared up, surprised by Hard Plume's sudden proximity. He quickly regained his composure, barely missing a beat. Rider and steed's facial expressions synched up as they both smiled with adrenaline-filled glee.

"Truce until we beat their asses up?"

Aerial nearly lost her grip when Thunderstruck nodded. At last, they were on the same page. Whether it would last or not remained to be seen.

Stripping the enemy of its special coating was the first order of business. It was a hard lesson she'd learned when fighting a big bad wolf with Valkryja. Which, honestly, compared to these Gundam Giants suddenly seemed like a pocket-sized enemy. So, with this knowledge in tow, she would control the battlefield.

From the magi-steeds core, Aerial controlled the electricity that Thunderstruck generated. With herself as a conduit to direct the amplified energy, she pointed at Hard Plume. Lightning struck the machine, attempting to short-circuit any systems it may be using.

Wielding her newly-acquired lance (good thing she went shopping before this event), the duo charged at Hard Plume. She always wanted to try jousting. Except it felt as if she was wielding a lightsaber during this one-sided joust considering the sheer amount of electrical energy that coated her otherwise flimsy weapon.

Jin and Famine share an HP total.
Zone: 3
Vulnerable

The creature did not submit to him, but he would have rejected a partner who had anyway. Tendrils of crimson snaked around his arms and pierced flesh, probing into his veins and locking him into place astride the wicked steed. His vestments draped over the Regent of Pestilence made him look almost like a reaper himself, as his face became distorted by waves of dark energy radiating off of the mount.

Though it had been awakened through his Hemomantic magic, it was one with him. It took on the wild qualities of his dark magic, evoking the imagery of a Black Rider almost right out of Tolkien. Only his crimson gaze remained, skewering through the veil to settle on the other riders as they hurtled into the fray.

Let them run.

He could hear the voice of his mount now, faintly creeping in his mind. With his blood, its personality took on a more sinister, albeit hideous persona. It became quieter, but that did not make it any less regal.

Flee though they may, they will not escape. I will not be stopped.

He had chosen well. The creature's pride was a perfect match for Jin, who made no effort to disagree with the sentiment. They were of one mind.

Are these rabble meant to be our subordinates?

"Fodder," Jin corrected, "but lest we forget, even fodder has a purpose."

Famine gave an amused, mechanical bristle as it processed the words Jin offered. As if on cue, magic surged through the bonded pair, suffusing them with enhanced power for the impending stroke. The enemy, suddenly, was upon them; but that was by design. The selfsame caster (@Cynna ) who had drawn the machine in had made an offering.

While the others moved to surround the enemy, Jin steered Famine into position to block it from rushing out ahead once more. He sent more of his viscera pulsing into the mechanical body of Famine, which shuddered as profane power was forced onto it by its brutal rider.

In turn, Jin shared in its agony. Only, between them, only one found the sensation appealing. "And now, Famine," Jin spoke in an icy voice, casting his spell.

Under normal circumstances, Jin lacked the wherewithal to translate his blood curse into a form that would be truly effective against Magia. Utilizing Famine, however, he unlocked fascinating potential.

A Contagion Engine.

A blackened haze emanated from Famine's chasis, unfurling like a massive cloud and washing backward over the enemy behind them. Seeking metal, sinew, bone- any combination, organic or inorganic- the pestilence sought to tear down the bonds between molecules and weaken the structural integrity of the Magia, leaving it without the strength to flee, and ideally, to fight back.

"We will cull the herd."

Let the others wax poetic about their shiny new steeds; Madison understood her relationship with the black chrome beast underneath her as nothing more than business. The MIT needed someone to test their capabilities out; the gunslinger needed something that could keep her steady while circling around all of Vintergard as she pumped round after round from her repeater rifle into the trio of robots that dogged her little posse.

Perhaps if they both survived, then snacks and names could be given out afterwards.

King Halo proved to be one of the quickest as it surged forward, greeting one of the Response trio head on. Would she have preferred to fall back and get some range? Certainly! If she just swung her rifle like a sword, then she'd be out of a weapon and a fat pile of reward money for repairs. And the magia would only be minorly inconvenienced. Not the best of trades.

Instead, as they barreled towards Old Fashion, Madison set her sights on the horizon and the fat ball of cannons that screamed across it.

"Perfect," Madison thought to herself as she raised her rifle, blinked on Deadeye, and took a deep breath. Time slowed down for a blink that stretched into minutes as she sized up the various joints in the mobile fortress for any weak points.

Thunder crashed across the battlefield as she fired off the first of many rounds.

"Alright then, sounds like we got woyk tah do! Let's go Mayano!"

As the magisteeds took off, Nyancy held on for dear life. Though she quickly found her footing atop the steed and grinned.

Well, ya said ya like rollahcoastahs and this hea is definitely a ride for tha books!

As the group rocketed through the sky, Nyancy waved at @Cynna .

"Ah hero's always wheyah they need tah be, when theyah needed, and from the looks ah it, heroes are definitely needed on this one."

Mere instants later, Cynna had pulled a daredevil move and had brought one of the mechanical monstrosities to the group.

"Guess this will make things easyah than havin' tah chase 'em all down. Not that you couldn't if ya wanted to, right Mayano?"

The magisteed simply neighed.

"Well, then I guess it's time tah get tah woyk! Nice job, Cynna! The soonah we bury these things tha bettah!"

Hopping up onto Mayano's saddle, Nyancy kept her balance as she lowered her center of gravity taking an attacking stance.

"Hero's paw..."

Nyancy's lightning blade began to form in her hand.

"Neko mo shakushi mo!"

Calling out her attack, Nyancy saught to pierce through the side of the enemy causing critical damage. Unfortunately, Hard Plume's armor wasn't so easily pierced. Still, the electrical shock that would move through Hard Plume's systems wouldn't be so easily ignored.

"Gah, not enough. This one's a toughie. Still, that don't mean it's time tah give up! We just gotta keep pushin', Mayano!"

Nyancy readied herself for another attack.

WHY WAS I GIVEN SENTIENCE
ONLY TO BECOME A SACRFICE OF WAR
I DO NOT UNDERSTAND

...eh?

APRIL IS THE CRUELEST MONTH

-

As Schilva looks upon his steed whinnying and running circles in what appears to be a mix of existential distress and post-nap confusion, the order comes; the enemy had fallen for the baited trap.
Without time to explain what the problem with his steed was nor why these horses had apparently been reading T.S. Eliot, Schilva moved to follow his allies according to pure muscle memory and leaps astride TWIN TURBO KAI NI, taking care to avoid sitting on the pointy bits.

The moment his bottom came into contact with TWIN TURBO KAI NI's chassis and his hands with its reins, something clicked in its whirring processors. The mental babbling quieted in an instant as it read Schilva's thoughts, cutting through the clutter of 'why did i have to pick the weird one' and 'how do i steer this thing' to reach one thought - 'we have to go fast'.

Nobody even saw its hooves leave the ground.

Whoa, whoa whoa whoaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA

A single-minded bolt loosed like @Madison Freebird's thunderous bullet, TWIN TURBO KAI NI's complaints and ramblings gave way to an almost eerie silence, its almost instantaneous approach towards the enemy punctuated only by the whizzing of air past Schilva's ringing ears and watering eyes. Even his scream of surprise as he was almost inflicted a horrific case of whiplash seemed to be left behind, steed and rider both streaking across the terrain at breakneck speed that defied observation.

Nearing Madison's King Halo, who had shot off earlier than most, Schilva barely heard someone scream 'GIVE EM HELLLLLLLLLLL!' before his steed came to a sudden stop, balking backwards as it almost ran itself into a towering Gundam Magia that resembled a set of stylised armour. Old Fashion was right for this thing; it looked almost antiquated next to its two pragmatically designed companions. The mission, however, remained the same.

Eliminate the enemy.

-
NONONONO I DON'T WANT TO DIE HERE

Get yourself together! Are you a man or a...uh, hmm.
Forward! Mighty steed, forward!

MAMA OUOUOUOUUUUUU
-

Reversing gears, TWIN TURBO KAI NI's wheeled hooves began to turn backwards, retreating the steed away from the preoccupied lone sheriff who didn't seem like they'd be able to hold their own if Old Fashion decided to throw itself at her. Gripping the beast's reins, Schilva grits his teeth and forces its head to twist around.

TWIN TURBO KAI NI was not in a good state. If magisteeds could froth at the mouth, it would be doing so right now, utterly disregarding his commands as it stubbornly refused to cooperate. Seeing this, Schilva lets go of the reins with a frustrated grunt and points towards the suddenly transported foe that was being wailed on by the rest of the party, Hard Plume.

A moment or two of deliberation was all that was needed for the steed to recognise the greater threat and veer back around reluctantly, heeding Schilva's triumphant command to;

Alright, here we go! CHAAAAARGE!

Rider and steed screaming as one, the two rushed forth with another screeching burst of speed, sparks flying as Schilva's mere unsheathing of his blade rips into the Magia knight's plating...and he continues riding right through it.

Can't you keep up? Too fast for ya? Bad luck that you're fighting the greatest swordsman to ever grace your eyes, Schilva Fl...wait, do they even have eyes...?

Everyone else leapt into action as soon as the enemies showed themselves, and Valmont was no different. Although, perhaps his strategy was. He let his faster allies get ahead of him, adjusting his strategy accordingly as the more experienced fighters went to town on their enemies. When the time came, he leapt into action.

Standing in the stirrups he leaned low over the Aes’ neck, willing the internal mechanisms to spin faster in much the same way that he maneuvered his octahedron. Still unsure of the source of the power, but having used it enough that he was willing to base its use entirely on faith. He zeroed in on a key member in the pack, Aerial, a controlling force among the companions. Aes put metal hoofs to dirt and accelerated to join the others.

Pulling up alongside his companions he watched how they fought, how they gave it their all. They left themselves open, leaving it up to their mounts to take up the slack. ”You work on them, and I’ll cover you!” He called to nobody in general. With a flicker of thought he magnetized his legs to the sides of his mount, securing his position on the jostling steed.

With a wave of his arms he produced a trio of octahedron from his sleeves, two taking up a position just over each shoulder, the last positioned in front of his chest. With a gesture he indicated the blossoming surfaces to target the horses of two companions. Blue light shone forth from the nodes, constructing a hexagonal aura around the hoses in the guise of a shield.

Finally, with an extra thought, he had the trio combine their lights into a thick beam. He sent it arcing out over the heads of his allies to slam into the torso of the one called Hard Plume.

A synthetic laugh escaped the arguably still a woman beneath the robes and tatters as the scenario came together as it did. Jester used to love westerns, and she used to love sci-fi. This was a pretty radical combination of the two. As the other operators laid out their assault, she waited in the back and watched everything unfold in slow motion before her until the time was right. Event Horizon was in the perfect position, and so was enemy one of three.

She began to spin her staff in her right hand as the end became alight with the pinkish-red glow of a star's light. Then she stood, but held on while staying low to the horse. "Accelerate!" Both she and the cosmic steed seemed to jump forward in space quite a far distance ahead of the current mass that had previously been just in front of her.

"ANIHILATE!" It would have seemed as though Cepheid and Event Horizon teleported if not for the line of light that trailed the path of her lightspeed swing as she darted forward and took to Hard Plume like a teenager in the 50's with a baseball bat to a mailbox. There was even the same satifying ding of metal that rang out from the blunt impact with the added bonus of the searing starlit tip, which you couldn't hear but it just felt so good.

Cepheid couldn't quite get back down against the horse and as such was still standing on its back. Not the position she wanted to be in, but it did set her up for something interesting to come. Hopefully that wouldn't include getting shot or knocked off her horse.
