Upon hearing @Rael 's response, Harper couldn't help but look away for a moment, doubt creeping in. She had honestly hoped that the elf would have something more concrete than just a feeling. Especially when innocent blood was potentially on the line.

"Let's just hope that this isn't a case of life just not making any sense. God knows that can happen." The tigress shook her head, before turning towards @Zelrius with a somewhat uncertain gaze . "And that we can stop her before something like this happens again, if needed."

With that said, Harper looked at the battlefield in front of her, forces for and against the execution of her foe forming. Her gaze hardened.

A decision had to be made.

Ash approaches @Harper. Even he has to admit that Rael's answer lacks much in the way of clarity.

"...Szofrit's the one 'killing' people now, sure. But what really kills people here is Terrasphere. Szofrit's just the latest thing doing that.

If we can find out why this happened, if this entire scenario was on purpose or something else, then it might give us a knife to point at the people who are actually responsible."

Whoever developed this game was a monster, and he wanted to see them pay far more than the NPC saddled with the position of "villain".

Harper would turn to Ash, listening to his explanation about the nature of the situation they found themselves in. Yet instead of the usually confident beastkin, Ash would meet a troubled girl.

"Why the heck do I even care so much..." Harper would start stomping the ground in frustration repeatedly. "This is a game! Something I picked up on my free time to relax! And now look at me! Missing sleep and possibly classes while trapped in here, agonizing about the repercursions for the lives of DATA! Why. Do. I. CARE?! "

The beastkin would look at the ground after her outburst, falling silent. She was completely out of her element, and that made her frustrated, angry, but most of all confused.

Why was this so hard? Why couldn't she just decide already and move on?! Why couldn't she just follow her friends in their decision without thinking so much about this?!

This isn't what she started playing this game for, and now she couldn't even log off to avoid it! All she could was keeping cursing under her breath as she tried to come to a conclusion.

Ash's sudden huff of laughter isn't mean-spirited at all. It's just tired.

Ask myself the same questions every day I log in to this hellscape...

For a moment, he wonders if he should... pat her on the shoulder, or give her any sort of reassuring contact, but it seems like an overstep here. He's not really good at this.

You shouldn't be having to worry about these kinds of choices. No one should. We shouldn't have to worry about not being able to log out, or people actually dying.

You feeling like this isn't your fault.

Ash is rambling, he knows. None of this is going to help Harper make a decision. But it's not his decision to make.

...I wish I could give you an easy answer, @Harper. A nice little quest with a black and white objective. But if I did that, I'd be no better than she is.

You have to choose what you believe in, here.

As he was hearing all of the arguments to either spare or kill Szofrit, Darko just issued a laugh. There was an obvious solution, but some of those people could not still get it.

"Are you people still discussing anything but the obvious solution? For crying out loud, we are not dealing with a humanoid or even a beast here! We are dealing with a sentient piece of iron here! So what if we shut this one down? This had killed a lot of people more than you have ever imagined, and you idiots are here still discussing here like time is not of the essence? While that thing is still moving and wreaking havoc all around? And so what if we DID kill it? We do not even need it moving to know what is on its mind! What do you think of the MIT and those who dabbled with magitech all of their lives, living decorations? The choice should be clear to all of you, but you are still there arguing about the morality when it had breathed multiple genocides on all of us here?"

If Frey wasn't a little queasy from the time spell, then he sure was after having to hold Toko's hair up for the last while.

He didn't understand the current debate that had broken out amidst the playerbase, but there was something he did know: He really quite liked the idea of continuing to live.

And people who liked to live followed people who seemed strong, and capable, like the silver-haired lady next to him who had chosen to show a sliver of mercy to the enemy.)

Still, he said none of it and watched the debate, highly amused.

Ayo, hold up a second!

As the voice of another rose through the crowd, he raised his hand.

Not that what you are saying doesn't have a lot of passion, can really see where you are coming from. Really compelling, props to you! (He claps a little.) But, like, isn't Magitech new? 2-3 years old, even?

He then lowered the hand that he had first raised to put it to the top of his head, then gradually lowered it as he made out the size of your average 3-year-old child.

...So, uh, yeah. Excited to meet those baby magitechnicians who have been dabbling with it during their entire lives. (His attention turned to the two by him, @Toko and @Schilva Flasch , the sound of his chuckles low as he elbowed them as if to say "get a load of this guy".

Oh, and another thing. Like I said, maaaajor compelling argument you have there, so I wanna know. To help, yeah?

Run me through it. Paint me a picture.

We kill the bitch, get those magitechnicians... Then what? You are making a load of assumptions here.

First, how do we make sure her data can be comprehended by our own forces? Like I said, fairly new technology and all, it isn't exactly like anyone knows much of anything, or those "experts" would've been ready with countermeasures. You can't ensure we will be able to make heads or tails of it.

Second, none of those already trying to put her in the ground are tech experts. How are we sure they won't harm or delete all the data with everything they are doing?

And third, do you have any pics of baby magitechnicians? They sound cute. I wanna see 'em.

Atmospheric and air pressure crushed down on Szofrit as Aerial briefly called out to those with the same intent to kill,

"Try to save the memory bank. That's all we need from this tin can. The body doesn't matter - only the processing data. Kill the host. Top priority, though, is survival. It's not worth any further sacrifices."

Especially when the bitch should already be dead.

"If it doesn't survive then we have parts of her memories. I know I'm not the only one who experienced that."

The thing that looked like Attia Patal glanced to her right, holding her head high. @Hanno Futaba's gaze, which had been on her since she rose, finally averted and she took a few slow steps backward, merging a bit with the growing crowd of disoriented people who had initially been part of the little impromptu musical performance. She kept her eyes forward, taking meaningful steps and clenched her trembling hands. Ah... this body was such a good fit but there would have to be some alterations before she was comfortable.

For now, it was time to observe, and catalogue, the kind of people in this place. There were many people in the world but these people had stepped up when the time came. These people were above the ordinary, and therefore people to be aware of.

There was the one called @Jin, cold and rational, but there was something in his words that told her that he was egging them on. He was a bit honest, but that was fine. The thing liked him. She made a note of tracking him down after her escape.

@Ash Vargold was resolute, was that bloodlust or conviction?

The girl called @Luthien seemed so convinced that they could get anything out Szofrit. Like it went without saying that she would be a fountain of knowledge. It was possible, but it was equally possible that the poor darling was nothing more than a wretched useless shell at this point. Still... she made a good distraction.

The thing continued to retreat through the groups, keeping her profile low as the arguing continued. Her eyes flicking towards Lune and her dismissal of needless heroism. Throwing themselves at this enemy just to save it was truly wasteful, especially with the consequences. Though the thing supposed it had been beneficial to it in its own way.

@Ueno Mizuki thrashed back with the threat of violence to protect her interests. Jin retorted with cold rationality, pressing buttons and twisting hearts. Oh. She liked him. She liked him very much. The little robot girl tried to make the victim's appeal and the creature that looked like Attia's lip twitched in disdain.

Finally @Rael spoke up and one point was enough to drive home a stronger argument than the others combined. If Szofrit was able to tamper with the system, who's to say they couldn't take that to their advantage. She liked that train of thought, good, very good. Ruthless pragmatism despite the outpouring of disgust the common person would have at seeing the vilified being survive.

Each and every one of them had their reasons, their concerns, their rationality for why they wanted things to turn out the way they did. Some were more noble than others. Regardless, there were little signs she took in, little notes, little thoughts. A list. Who she would seek out when this was over and who she would need to carefully deal with or avoid. Attia had been a fool to look only at herself, barely acknowledging the others as she kept her gaze on the landers. What was the opinon of Farmers and Kings before Gods?

Her smile grew wider as she reached the edge of the zone she was in. The noisy arguing continued. Her hands twitched again. Damn. She was weak right now and she couldn't make a scene. The thing that looked like Attia had to keep up appearances until she could properly disappear. There were far too many people here with a mentality that she could only describe as threatening. Sweat dripped down her temple.

Then Ash said something she couldn't forgive. The one's actually responsible. Her smile dipped into a frown. He was playing this game to end it. That wouldn't do, not at all...

Time, and time again, Rael had asked for her comrades-in-arms' faith that there should be a golden path ahead, a brighter future.

And for what?

She hadn't stopped to think of the consequences, of the sheer pressure of it all. That, perhaps, not all of them were possessed of the ability to strip themselves of emotion and lock them away in a little box. Numb them down enough so they might be talked about later.

And she witnessed that faith break apart right in front of her very eyes.

"I thought to search for the answer to that very same question in other players, but... None have it. You must answer that for yourself, or seek to give meaning to your attachments to this game, none can deny once a threat is introduced, that there is a reason they themselves started to care for. A reason to make the risk justifiable."

Try as she might to declare herself the exception to this one rule, she wasn't.

Her hand squeezed Harper's shoulder from where Rael held onto her, a nod of appreciation thrown @Ash Vargold's way. More gratefulness for his presence, than anything else.

"Why I choose to spare her... All of this could've been avoided, but people chose to kill the person that knew all this would happen, rather than listen to them. The one person who could have prepared us, and warned us, killed.

And... Szofrit's memories showed her original purpose: she was sent here to help, to give us something, to prepare us for something else.

I am not about to make the same mistake twice and condemn us to lose more. And if you don't care for the "data" as you call it, then all I can do is ask you to take your friends into consideration. Your fellow players who could be saved by her information.

...The choice is yours, and all I can do is thank you for even listening to me when you had no reason to.

...And apologize that it hasn't been easy."

"You guys are kidding, right?"

Erick blinked, incredulous.

"Is now really the best time? I'll buy drinks for everyone afterward, and you can have plenty of time to draft lengthy treatises on morality after we finish. Sounds like almost everyone wants to spare her, so whether I like that or not, it seems like the most efficient thing to do for everyone to just put combine their efforts toward that."

...it didn't sit well with him, but neither did any of this arguing.
