Explorers League Expedition

The blaring of a whistle catches your immediate attention. Around you, some grab at their weapons or brandish held spells, while others laugh at their allies' nerves. Above the gathered Explorers League rankers and those willing to join or interested in their push stands a young woman with her hands on her hips and not a single weapon in sight. She's lightly armored, atop the bridge-like root, but burns with confidence. It seems the shouty foxfolk from before has taken up the lead again. Her violet whistle, hanging from the striking red braid around her throat, claims enough experience for her fellow whistles to listen.

For those who aren't in the know, my name's Arlyn and I'll be heading this expedition. So let's get some things straight! Our creed is per aspera ad astra, a promise that we're gunna reach the stars despite any adversity. Because of 'em, in fact! A light in the darkness!

The Vulpis growls, tail lashing behind her even as it begins to ripple with blue and lavender flames. Petals shimmer into the dark, humid air of the dense greenery. When touched, they fade into eerily cold flickers of fire.

If you've got what it takes to forge a whistle and reforge yourself, to be the first on the path and the first on the front lines of danger? Well, it's time to prove it. Things aren't easy, so I won't make 'em easy. Your job, as a group, is to outrace the clock.

The burning tail bursts into three. Each one curls to point toward where the other three factions are readying themselves. The Lions gather their equipment and close ranks at the heart of the mission. The MIT shout orders, write furious notes, and call members to and fro. The Guild readies their weapons and receives their jobs, whatever they may be. MIT stooges.

They have a job to do and, unlike ours, it's on a nice, neat spreadsheet. Maybe even a timetable! We ain't got the luxury of that, doing what we do. So, we're going to get as much scouting as we can before all these busybodies wanna get a move on when they're good and ready.

Time to tear through every path in this here jungle. Mark down points of interest, but you better not stop covering ground. And remember, even a whistle alone is still part of the team - when one succeeds, we all do. When one falls, we all remember. But there better not be ANY of that today, you hear me? So, if at any point you get in trouble and you aren't able to handle it? Scream real good: Whistle.

She nods when some in the crowd nod, and then aggressively shakes her head.

Nah, nah, shout it. I wanna hear it. Whistle! (She takes a deep breath in when other voices shyly join her own.) Whistle!

Flames dance around her, and her voice takes on a bestial fury that cuts through the air. A figment of a great fox burns around her for just a second before it fades into loose coils of flaming tails. This time, more of the crowd joins in the deafening call.

WHISTLE!

A laugh rolls through the crowd at the red face left behind on her face as the beastfolk slumps with her hands on her knees, breathing heavily, but looking proud.

Better. Now you guys get the rules? (A cheer of answers and raised weapons.) Great, then it's a race! (She grins at you all, fangs dimpling her bottom lip. After a short pause, she suddenly scowls, stamping a foot hard enough to dent the root below her.) What are you waiting for? No one out in the wild is gunna say Ready, Set, GO!

Points of Interest

Pick one to boldly go where maybe no man has gone before.

Canopy Sprawl

Ascend from the dense flora and dangerous fauna below. Natural bridges of wood, vine, and bone connect the jungle trees together in a labyrinth of flowers, fruit, and long lethal falls. The call of the void and whisper of the wind entreat you to leap on leaves the width of villages. Surely the view is worth it?

Jungle Floor

Race across the forest floor, ferns of an ancient era brushing your shoulders and the eyes of predator and prey watching your back. Be the first to set foot on soil left abandoned for ages immemorial. Here, even simple glades are valleys and armies could march into the hollows of the great trees.

Lost City

The cover of the canopy breaks, blinding sunlight illuminating a city of geometric designs, its buildings piled atop one another with seemingly endless staircases to the heavens. The homes once meant for humanoids are now dozens of bestial dens - and windows into the lives of a long forgotten people.

River Route

Fish like colorful flowers almost glow beneath the water's surface, racing beside you over rounded rocks and wild bends. Sloped shores heavy with foliage and white water canyons of jagged stone rise and fall along its flanks. The bloom of color and light makes strange illusions dance around your reflection.

Root Cavern

The weaves curve above you and disappear below into the cool, dark loam. Slide down the titanic roots, lost to the shadows of caverns made of root and soil. Strange bugs feed off the vivid gold-green sap of the weaves in the presence of bones from rare beasts and the wreckage of fallen travelers.

Sunken Ruin

A grave in the belly of a forgotten ruin. Here, the fate of a people is clear in the humanoid skeletons, weapons made of bone and jade, and the empty chitin plates of dead insects. Far below, in the shadows, are the glittering promises of riches and wonders. Even more so, are those of traps and ancient trials.

"...I figure that's where all the kids with death wishes go." Those were the words of @Gideon before they broke into groups and the two of them joined with the Explorers. He found himself savoring the thought as it danced through his mind. The very chance that this adventure might spell death for him or any of those around him thrilled the swordsman.

"One can only hope," Jin whispered to himself as the chorus of WHISTLE resounded wildly and disjointed all around him. Theirs was a breed that thrived on new experiences, and while they were less self-interested than he was, Jin found himself with a certain admiration for others who would put their lives on the line. It was something few people could reconcile their fear and push themselves to do.

It was the sole thing that gave him meaning.

He felt the cold shiver of something settling into his bones, like he had been brushed by an unseen force. When he checked his Heads Up Display, he found that a second stack of the strange impediment had come upon him. Likely, that was true of the others as well. Unfortunately, he could not discern what- if any- change he had been afflicted with.

The Bloodsworn wasted no time. They had
collectively forged ahead of the group, delving deep into the Jungle to map out the unknown and perhaps find some clue as to what happened to the camp. What indeed? Jin mused as he ducked beneath a sizeable cluster of low hanging moss and wove between some of the massive roots. The forest itself formed a formidable labyrinth with not only its overgrowth, but the massive plant life and ancient, weathered stone. The dirt beneath his feet notably did not crunch, more akin to a lichen, almost boggy mass than softly shifted and returned to its unmolested shape with each step.

"I should mark the trail, in case I need to find my way back," he addressed his thoughts aloud, rubbing a thumb across the surface of one of the many massive rocks. He scraped the flesh until it bled, then used his magic to seep the fluid into the surface and leave a primitive marking. "There," he uttered, appraising his work.

His path wound for a time before he came to a large, albeit ruined series of structures and formed stone that appeared to almost mirror civilization. Or it had, in the distant past. "Now this looks promising..."

Red Fever (2) - Sadness

He whistled.

He whistled.

He whistled.

But he really couldn’t get it into himself to whistle at his full might. He wasn’t, after all, an Explorer. Couldn’t call himself an MIT either. Adventuring felt exhausting and tedious. And his pride was a burden, whilst his arms lacked the true physical might that lions held. So what was he, really?

Cain furrowed his brow. She could recognize the death spiral of emotion, had experienced it many times before the melancholia that was sparked by little to nothing. A senseless feeling. He was stronger than that. At least he could pretend he was. Two hands smacked against his cheeks, leaving red marks as he shocked himself out of languor with pain. The pain in his heart wasn’t so bad, and there ought to be no reason for it either, when a miracle had truly been delivered to him!

Seigi was alive, and right now, even if he felt as if his stomach was slowly be pushed into a paper shredder, he could also feel like talking to her again.

Hair like sunset, but it was @Gwyn ap Herne , and he managed an apologetic smile towards her for the trouble he had caused those days back. He tapped the side of his jaw where her fist had first met, then turned to search.

Spritely form, but it was @Laylabelle , that energetic explorer who already looked to be preparing for the scouting properly, with mapmaking tools at the ready and her goggles wiped clear of raindrops. He tipped his drenched hat in her direction, the pinned feather crackling with the vestiges of lightning, then turned to search.

Bows and fri- wait, Seigi never wore those! Cain widened his eyes at the sight of @Theria , that dimunitive Faerin that he encountered by the Guild. So she had made it this far as well, marred only by some mud and spores? Well, couldn't leave a fellow fashionista hanging, could he? "Good luck on your delving, little miss," Cain said, the smile a little more real. "And if you've no party, I'm certain there're plenty who'll oblige."

And, that familiar face. Her eyes disjointed, her mien a bit rougher, but still, Seigi. Raina.

He fought the urge to make a scene.

"The stars aligned, and we met once more, Seigi. Shall we challenge it together, the highest of highs? That Citadel that challenges the dominion of heaven?"

But tears fell nonetheless.

Melancholia.

When he logged back in from dealing with kids he must have gotten mixed into a different group then he first thought he was going towards, not like any of it really mattered while he yawned and listened to the speech only to gag in disgust over the 'moral boost' it seemed to have. So people did that everywhere even in games, annoying. Rolling his eyes each time they got told to shout before walking off to go as they had been told. His focus slightly catching sight of @Crimson Ruby who would only get a small head bow before Thousand bolted off on his own at top speed across the jungle floor.

Frame low to the ground as he kept both hands resting on his weapons and jumped around roots and slid under ones that grew to large to hop over even with his bonus to movement. This whole thing was just a giant heap of annoying and trouble he wanted to get over with. If that meant finding the best route or things of interest then that was where he wanted to be in the case of worst poison. That being said he still could not get over the annoying 'win together, lose together' bullshit.

"If you fuck up it on you, not everyone. Just like if you achieve something the credit should not be split... That is how the world works no matter real or fantasy and thinking otherwise is stupid."

Words spoken mostly to himself hopefully as he took a sudden turn into a off beaten path just to make sure he would least get to spend this time alone. His mind wondering off to what he might make for dinner later once this stupid event nonsense was over, or what he would do after that, because honestly anything was better then thinking more about helping people that he did not even know or give a damn about when he just wanted solitude and or the thrill of fighting something to the death.

This fox person kept screaming at her. This was not the right choice, was it? As Arlyn demanded shouts, Chelsea gave glares. Why not? She wasn't enthusiastic about this in the slightest. Not one bit. This data was for her work. The pale Nexon rubbed her hand across her forehead. The Jungle was hot...so unpleasant. This Red Fever condition was also something she could not just ignore. Surely she would not fall to whatever this was...

Then again there was that one time...the greenskin broken stupid thing!

As she went to work analyzing the area with her investigation more. She would begin to move slightly faster through the group. Chelsea became focused. This would be her first time actually doing something in this place, right? Always in the forefront!

Then she saw... her. @Seigi Ling Ling

"...You. Even after being buried, you're still here. *Chuckle*, I-I have a..."

The strongly reserved raven hair made a shocked look as she had a small smile on her face. Was she actually happy to see this copy? Shaking her head she moved on and headed for where there would be the best view and the most air space for her suit's movement (which she still hadn't activated)

There was no way she felt happy playing this death trap in the slightest.
NOT.

Explorer's League Member - Orange Whistle
Red Fever Stacks [ 2 ] Someone's feeling a little angry...

Sol stood among the other Explorer's as they all chanted for the whistle, her own hand raising up to her chest as she held her orange whistle close. Something about all of them chanting together... It was a feeling of comradery that Sol hadn't felt before. Letting out a soft breath as she reveled in the feeling, her purple eyes flicked to the side as they landed on a certain @Frey Elzeiros. Things had been... Weird with him, to say the least, from the drinking to the fight. However her stomach twisted oddly with guilt... She couldn't help but feel it wouldn't have been that way if she hadn't acted so distant in the first place.

"... Hey, Blue," She jogged over to him, pushing some strands of hair out of her face as she struggled to make eye contact with him, but was able to pull herself to look at him directly in the eyes, gaze unwavering as she looked maybe a little too serious, "Listen, I know things are weird right now, but... It might be better if we stick together." Straight to the point and a little awkward, Sol's gaze flickered away again but this time was caught by the other members beginning to head out in their separate directions. Her face lit up with yearning and purpose, as if this was what she was meant to be doing, turning and looking at him again.

A smirk pulled at her lips as she raised an eyebrow in challenge, flicking her head in a direction quickly as she began to move, "If you can keep up, that is." And with that, she was off, running to who knows where as fast as her legs could take her.

Soon enough she had arrived at a colourful, bright area, coming slowly to a stop by the shore of a river. It was honestly... Beautiful. Her breath caught in her throat as her reflection appeared on the water top, magnificent shapes, sights, and colours seemingly dancing around her as the area played fancy tricks on her mind, Ugh, I fucking love video games...

Pulling out her notebook from within her dress, she spotted another Explorer on the other end of the bend @Laylabelle. Giving her a head nod to acknowledge her presence and let her know she was there if needed, she turned back to the paper in her hand, sketching out flora and fauna as she proceeded to get lost in her own world.

The mention of this Red Fever stuff had Alkaid on edge. Conditions were nothing new, since back in the day there were things like freezing effects and that whole Dissonance stuff that she'd dispel stack by stack. This? This had nothing of the sort. And she couldn't help but worry, watching their companions split up one by one.

Strangers, mostly. But hadn't she always been a stranger? She always found a comfort in that, the independence of striking on her own giving her a chance to do things like make a new drinking buddy. Or to be there for others, like that time she found a dejected Emerath slumped against the wall simply because rotten luck made one of his drones go flying. A mistake anyone could've made, she reminded.

But now? Now, for some odd reason, part of her found that depressing. And in lieu of that feeling, what better way to forget about that crappy notion than to join some people on a big climb. Scout a new area. See the world from on up high.

It didn't take long for her to notice on particular companion might have an edge on the rest of em', though. "Hmm, so they let us make characters with wings now, eh? What do you say to joining us for a bit of a climb?" Alkaid asked, spotting @Bluebird amongst the crowd. A bit of rolling laughter left her lips as she made her best tempting offer, if not a touch of crassness as well, "You never know, we could find some amazing fruit up there, or something~ bring back a little treat for later to stave off the misery in that stuffy ass camp."

Regardless, the former fortune teller would make her way up as best she could, though thankfully, the aid of spirits sometimes helped warn of danger. Former explorers, perhaps?

She made a mental note that maybe doing a full on seance might be a good idea, given their whole empty camp scenario...

The call was rousing, but Gwyn spent most of pacing like a caged animal. It was why she was here - not the watching, but the reason they'd all gathered to this rally point. As soon as they were let loose, she was gone. Like a race horse out of a gate, the shout to begin stirred her into a blur of motion. She abandoned @Cain Darlite and @Seigi Ling Ling to their reunion. Blew past @Thousand Swords with a burning glare. The rest of them barely counted as living when the world alive was calling her name.

She didn't need Dynamism to move swift through the forest. Her body long knew how, in-game and out. A massive tree deeper in had the perfect slope with a burnt lightning crack through it that begged for her to use to until she stood in a canopy that stretched on for miles in all directions. Soot clung between her fingers from the ancient scar, but Gwyn couldn't feel it. She sought out the strange instinctual awareness that came from her Beast Arts. The creature inside of her reaching out to them.

They knew paths and dangers and secrets that outsiders like the gathered Landers and Travelers could never know. Gwyn found herself lost in a red-tinted haze and ran herself into dangerous leaps from branches and aggressive swings across even greater gaps. She leapt above some strange six-legged jaguar lounging in a nest of fallen debris in a spider web the size of the caravan's wagons put together. When she snarled down at its interested gaze, it cowed and hissed, lazed back down into the nest and let her pass.

Gwyn ran until the birds she startled into flight were no longer at her sides, but taking off into a cerulean sky. She stood above the world. In the distance, peeking through the trees and rises not quite mountain ranges were the tops of gold-tipped temples. Even further away, a statue of obsidian and jade in the likeness of a jaguar. And above, birds whose feathers turned to magic in the wind.

These. These were why she was here. No one was taking this from her. Not ever again.

It appeared as though his nap had done more than wonders, leaving the lepus in a grandly energetic mood and ready to take on the world. Revitalized from his magical slumber, Ru's every fiber tingled with excitement, his legs uncontrollably pacing with anticipation from Arlyn's speech. Though not one to join in on the mindless speeches, he found himself oddly… predisposed to such antics on this occasion.

Having divided up into smaller scouting parties, his gaunt figure turned towards two companions ( @The Guy @Bluebird ? ) before setting off with a bounce in his step towards their assigned location. Despite the Root Caverns being a less than desirable assignment due to the undergrowth and decay, the temperature was exquisite. The terrain itself was a source of excitement as well, the path descending into the caverns presenting itself as a large, steep slide network of roots with tumultuous twists and turns.

"Oooo… You two thinking what I'm thinking?"

Without waiting for much of an affirmation, the gaunt lepus sprinted towards the titanic root, breaking into a skid as he leaned back to enjoy the ride.

"SEE YOU TWO AT THE BOTTOM! LETS GOOOO! WOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

For the first time since she started Terrasphere, Bluebird begins to wonder if she's made a mistake. She's with friends, she whistles as loud as she can with the others, but she can't do anything about the doubt creeping in. She is no veteran, no fighter, and even her flight Can she really help here...?

She does her best to shake it off, though. @Alkaid Zexis's offer is tempting - not because of the fruit, but the sheer lure of the canopy, where she can flit above the dangers of the jungle. "Thank you for your offer! I planned to travel with my friends, but I think I may-"

"SEE YOU TWO AT THE BOTTOM! LETS GOOOO! WOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

She turns on a pivot, briefly catching the sight of @Ru Ning leaping off the edge. Her heart leaps at the sight and her feathers ruffle with anxiety. He'd been so cautious in Travelers Gate - how could he be doing something so dangerous here?!

"I- I'm sorry, I must go ensure my friend is okay!" She bows deeply to Alkaid, then takes a deep breath. Her whistle wavers with her anxiety as she moves with the wind. Looking over the edge makes her stomach drop, but she can see her friend in the tangle of roots below...

"Ru Ning! I am coming! Please be careful!" She slaps her face with both hands and balls them into determined fists, then leaps off the edge, wings spread wide as she skips from root to root into the darkness.

Red Fever (5) Fear!

I'm scared...

If Seigi wasn't a Lion, she was even less of a Whistle. Only reason for joining to prevent death but also have fun. So, when the adorable fox person wanted them to whistle it all up, Seigi only joined in thought and smile.

I'm scared, what if a coconut crushes our skull!?

It didn't help that something seemed weirdly wrong. Usually, her head was always bustling. Countless whispers, some more prominent than others, trying to make her fall into a pitch black pit of spiraling negativity. Telling her that every one was out to get her. Hated her, that she was worth nothing. And countless more. Yet, except for Nanami at times, Seigi had learned to mostly deal with it.

I'm scared, I don't want to die!

But now? Now the voices were silent. The things they made her feel, dulled. Except one: Fear.

It was very unexpected, and @Lady N suddenly speaking her up from the side did not help her case. Left in a slight state of shock, she didn't make too much sense out of what the Lady just said. Yet, the one word that stuck out to Seigi was 'buried'.

She could end up buried under the weight of some enemies
Buried under a stack of trees
Buried in a ditch and a pitfall
Buried, left for dead

"..." Seigi tried to muster strength to say anything. But it was simply too overbearing. The fear of death, combined with the whole situation, brought back memories. Bad memories that were about to spiral it out of control.

Ultimately, Lady N's words brought Seigi slightly to tears.

...

These crucial seconds of a self-amplifying breakdown lingered on for only so long, however, as Seigi suddenly heard someone behind her. (@Cain Darlite)

A deep, soothing voice that resulted in pure bliss
The one person she could once always count on
A Knight in Shining Armor
Her Flagbearer of Miracles

Words alone were too short to describe what she suddenly now felt. The voices, silenced. Her tears of sorrow, now a display of joy. Her senses, sharpened. Her heartbeat, strengthened. Her will, restored.

Happiness with a pinch of disbelief.

Just don't make it awkward. We can always talk later...

Seigi didn't need to be told twice, as she caught up to Cain Darlite, ready to explore the secrets of the jungle together. Answering him with a:

"YES!"

Her smile, now brighter than it had been the past years...

"WHISTLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Before she knew it, she was shouting at the top of her lungs in reply to Arlyn's cheerleading (@Vale). Slapping her cheeks, to dispel the last of her misgivings, Laylabelle approached Arlyn to help her up.

"Thank you, I was feeling a little uncertain and that really helped. Fixer Laylabelle reporting for duty and inter-faction training. Excelsior~! Oh, wait, what should I say instead? Do we doot? I don't have a dooter..."

Laylabelle didn't have a dooter. Laylabelle continued to speak with Arlyn and compared logistic notes.

***

Laylabelle had decided on the River Route on account of her real life Park Ranger experience. It was good to branch out, but with lives on the line, being where one could be most effective was also important.

Checking her maps she found the way out and on her walk ran into someone @Sol with some sciencey looking documents. She even seemed to understand them! Laylabelle didn't waste a second.

"Oh awesome~! You look like you know stuff~! Come with me there's something funny about this river I wanted to check out and you'd make it a whole lot quicker..."

Laylabelle noticed someone else @Frey Elzeiros and intuition just seemed to say, bring him along!

"A buddy system's great but three's a better number for this sort of operation, if one falls it'll take two to carry them, will you come along as well~?"

Everyone was assembled without really being asked.

"Hello, my name is Laylabelle, Fixer forward of MIT. Now I've heard a funny thing about this here river~ It DOES STUFF~"

Laylabelle paused as the Wolf-O-Wisps, now three of them ran about her new companions, they each had a bandana color on them, Red, Yellow, Blue.

"Boof Boof!"

"These are the Wolf-O-Wisps, they will be helping us scout today and keep us safe. Now as for the river, I've heard it may have some kind of illusionary effect. That is highly dangerous for a moving current, I was hoping if we could discover the source of the strange reflections. How's that sound, think we can keep each other from falling in?"

With that they were off with Laylabelle guiding them to the Point of Interest: River Route

Red Fever (2) Disgust

Shane has never been a stranger to illness, and the mention of the Red Fever itself wasn't anything new once communicated of it's existence. Did everyone instantly assumed her to be a part of their expedition of sorts? So many faces, that's probably why hers didn't make quite a difference back at the campment. But that's fine by her. Despite the many unsavory individuals, she could play the faceless ghost as usual.

However, the longer she traversed across the vast jungles ladden with vegetation and archaic structures alike, the more her stomach twisted and recoiled as if the very world turned against her senses. Her knife was of little use here, a machete could do wonders, her hands did all of the work to get rid of what branches she could break. Roots though? These were meant to dodge and duck under, at least until one misstep sunk her down, a false sense of safety as the leaves and twigs dropped her down across a tight tunnel formed purely of dirt and decomposing matter. It wasn't natural, and the longer she went, the more it begun to prove that theory once stone begun to replace the earth, cracked in many places, and lacerated with claw marks.

"Did no one told ya' not t'crawl into strange tunnels? What, ya' think there's gonn be me' magic goblin ready to blurt a treasure at you or something?" Her weapon called out, the bitter sarcasm of a man too smug for someone lacking a face, or a body at all.
"Remember our deal?"
"Yeah..."
"Then stop talking."

Finally there was some modicrum of light at the distance the moment she dropped from the tight tunnel with a loud thump, dusting off the tattered robes with which she appeared into this world. Her eye widdened at the many pillars and structures that serve as testament of life and civilization once having flourished beneath.

"Shay, company at eight."

Shane turned in response, no questions asked when she pulled her knife with her left and the flintlock from her right, ready to take aim until she paid closer attention at who exactly fell under the concept of 'company'.

"Ah, more people from this expedition I suppose." She called out, sight set upon @Jin, wary in her approach, a complication with how dormant her limbs felt at the moment. "I hope you brought a light source if you intend to dwelve deeper. I doubt these structures are stable, let alone visible from within."

Red Fever (2) Sadness

Discordant cheers and high-pitched whistles give him cause to feel ecstatic, even when he doesn't join the chorus. Arms folded over his chest, cane tucked under his arm, his eyes marvel at the sight of myriad faces filled not with certainty - for their tasks alone demanded that they alone be the ones to brave through lands undiscovered and untouched - but filled with a purpose found beyond the veil.

His characteristic smile falters in @Sol's presence, words he would've once woven to pull a reaction out of her now escaping him. Frey's laughter doesn't ring out, no discernable amusement to his words, he simply stares at the redhead whom he had followed because she knew where the rest of the Explorer's League would gather.

And he wonders why he hasn't fully forgiven her.

Not that any of it is important.

"Sure. Why not," is what he manages to say in response to her offer, the sound of his voice albeit too quiet that one might easily miss it if not paying attention.

Ahead she moves, and Frey keeps a loose eye on the blur of movement that she becomes with enough distance.

By virtue of his suspending the effects of gravity directly above the piece of parchment he'd use to make a map, he pens down the start of their trail and moves along, not getting too far before another calls out to him.

@Laylabelle's joyful demeanor returns his smile to him, the excitement in her voice an almost contagious occurrence. He nods at her first question, lips parted slightly but quickly shut once it's apparent she still has quite a few things to say, and he cannot help but chuckle the more she goes on.

"Pfft. A delegate of the MIT and one so cheerful, at that. Miss Laylabelle, the name is Frey, title still pending."

Name offered, his attention shifts to the bundle of white running around his feet, bending down to scratch behind the ear of the... Summon? Familiar? Adopted creature?

"What are your suspicions? Something in the water or external catalysts of some kind? How can we be sure they are actual illusions?" Frey looks like he is about to ask yet another question, but he catches himself and inhales deeply, bowing his head apologetically. "Guess we'll have to get there first!"

Red Fever (2) Sadness

Prior to separating from her friends, Kamala was very excited about what the future held, specifically the future of her involvement with the Explorers League. But after separating from her friends? She wasn't as excited as she had thought. She started missing her friends, and that feeling grew heavier than she expected. Pete had spoken as if that was their last time together, and with Ayna expressing the same thing, she was suddenly feeling a bit down with the prospect of losing old friends, so down that the thought of making new ones within the League had yet to dawn on her.

After the whistle broke through her depressing reverie, she listened intently to the Vulpis in charge of their expedition. Every now and then Kamala would steal glimpses of those with her, wondering if they were feeling the same thing as well. It was hard to tell at first glance, but a part of her was sure a few others were missing their friends and family, and all that just made her very sad again. She couldn't even join in the cheering and yelling. When everyone dispersed, Kamala was one of the last few folks to actually make a move.

Yet she managed to spot @Ru Ning and @Bluebird nearby after taking a path to the Root Cavern, following the weaves over and under the loam, cold as steel, dark as her future. With her nature magic, she was able to traverse the massive roots and the caverns of roots with relative ease. The bones made her feel uneasy, which in turn made her feel even sadder. What happens if her friends become bones? What if she ends up like these bones? Would that have been their last hurrah?

Red Fever (2) Anger

Ruby could say she was lucky that she had a lot of her friends on the same mission as her. Enough to make the mild annoyance coming from the fever be sent to the depths of her mind.

But disaster occurred when she saw @Sol going to a path while @Ru Ning and @Bluebird went for another. Her eyes shifted back and forth. To the fellow red-haired woman and the Lepus & Bird duo. Her lips pursed for a moment, unsure of what to do because she honestly wanted to go with all of them, but there was only one Ruby for two spots.

Then, @Thousand Swords passed next to her, giving only a brief not while she opened her mouth to say something before he simply darted off.

Suddenly, she noticed she was all by herself.

A pout poked from her lips, and she huffed annoyed while moving on to the ruins, with the anger from the fever mixing up and boiling up a genuine feeling of frustration.

In the ruins, she tried to ring her bells, focusing on the sounds and the echoes to find her way through them, until she spotted @Shane and @Jin, looking at both of them with a big, big scowl.

Red Fever (2) Anger

"One can only hope," Gideon echoed, casting @Jin a sideways glance. They really did share many of the same toxic traits, something she hadn't really encountered elsewhere in the game. Other Players seemed so upbeat, so excitable, and just happy to be in the virtual world. So many didn't fully recognize the thrill that the game allowed her. A thrill she would never be able to find in the real world.

When the dark-haired man peeled off, heading for his chosen point of interest, Gideon did not follow. Shared traits were all well and good, but she wasn't in the game to make friends. Besides, if they were as similar as Gid assumed, he wouldn't appreciate her tagging along like a lost puppy. So the woman turned on her heel and deliberately stalked the other direction.

The moment Gideon emerged from the dense jungle, and found herself surrounded by the lost city, she knew she had chosen well. Stone structures stacked like a child's building blocks spiraled skyward, and she had to crane her neck to see the tops. The earth that lay between the constructs was well-packed, signaling many feet had once passed through. Gideon lacked any real imagination, and even she could imagine the city in its hay-day. Now, all that remained was the bright sunlight, and the shadows that lurked inside each open doorway.

And something else.

Movement to her right sent a ripple of energy coursing through her body. A monster, maybe? In a place like this, so untouched by the outside world, she could probably grab some easy kills... and net some easy loot. I wonder if the people just ran off, leaving their personal items behind.

Keeping a wary eye on the spot where she'd seen something move, Gideon picked her way toward the nearest doorway. Sudden voices interrupted her planned B&E.

Turning, Gid spotted a pair of Players not far from where she stood. The man (@Cain Darlite), his purple hair shining beneath the bright sun, spoke to the shorter woman (@Seigi Ling Ling). Was he using some kind of Shakespearean voice mod or something? And was he crying?

Like a sudden summer breeze, hot anger flared inside of her. She had finally found a place of her own, to explore on her own, and these two could ruin everything.

The words exploded from her lips without her full cooperation. "If you two are done, I think there's something moving in that building over there."

1d6 (5) - Fear

The warm scent of earth and rot mingled in a way that he knew all too well. The scent redoubled with a verdant crunch as THE GUY landed at the first visible floorspace of the cavern, now side by side with @Ru Ning . The other two weren't far behind-he estimated about twenty seconds before they caught up. He had gone down the chasm without hesitation, foot for foot with the other beastfolk down the sliding rootway.

The man had been talkative up until they'd gotten to the place. Now the armored companion to the party was terribly silent for reasons he had yet to speak of at all. This place... it was just too similar to the warm jungle nights he was accustomed to delving and fighting inside of. As they fell further, he watched. As they reached stable ground, he watched-Straining his senses as far as he could. Still there was no relief. His gut churned as a warning to danger.

THE GUY's gut feeling had never been wrong, and he wasn't about to discount it now when it had saved his life so many a time before. Something was watching them-there had to be something. His gun was always in hand, for he was ready.

"Stay cold. Something's nearby."

Red Fever (2 - Emotion: Sadness)

Unaffiliated

Kicking shimmering wet gravel around instead of doing what he was told to, Schilva wandered on his lonesome along the riverside. The rushing current rings in his ears as he edges along a particularly violent rapid, cautious of the slippery rocks. Pacing, troubled, his brow wrinkles as he wipes cool prismatic river mist across his brow.

This strange, unexplained Red Fever Condition was bothering him, sure. However, something else yet plagues the swordsman.

Childress.

She didn't even look my way! How could that be? Is being forward not what the whole Explorers League is all about? Then why did she...no, could it have been that I'm not...?

Rounding the whitewater-lapped bend of the river, he bumps into a strange congregation; the Faerin first-timer who mistook him for an NPC the first time he logged in to Terrasphere (@Frey Elzeiros), the Beastfolk who'd happened upon his embarrassing run-in with a cave bear (@Sol) and one other upbeat Human leading a throng of wolf-shaped fluffball spirits.

"You! And you? And...you...?"
Raising an eyebrow as he points at each of the three in turn, Schilva seems momentarily snapped away from his contemplative melancholy.
